Kotlc match list headcannons

-Sophie(if she could be registered) has Fitz at the top of her list with Tam second

-Keefe giving Tam the side-eye because he ranked above him by one spot on Sophie's list

-Keefe deciding that he doesn't need a match list because his Foster wouldn't be on it(but Sophie would def be first on his list)

-Biana having Tam and Dex as the top two positions, Maruca in third(no complaints)

-Linh and Marella being at the top of each others' lists and just going with it

-Dex didn't have anyone he knew on his list the first time(except for Stina, but he would never)

-Dex's next list had Tam, Fitz, and Biana- in that order. He's still panicking and hiding his list.

-Sophie found Dex's list and said she'd support his choice and she especially ships him and Biana.

-Fitz found out during a telepathy lesson and started blushing

-Fitz had Linh as number four on his list and no one else he knew(except Stina- but like Dex, ew)

-Fitz decided he may be better off as a Councillor

-Stina had Maruca in the 10th spot and started blushing furiously

-Maruca had Stina in her 7th and rumors say they went on a date(rumors also say it went very well)

-Nobody knows whats on Jensi's list, but they speculate Fitz may have been on it

-Tam got a list, but he has yet to show anyone. Though Fitz was rumored to be in the mix.

I know people talk a lot about the absence of LGBTQ representation in KOTLC, but like, that’s just a product of the matchmaking system right? The system is like 100% based around a) keeping relatives from getting married and b) optimizing genetic compatibility to reproduce the best offspring. Since the whole thing is sorta based around reproduction it makes sense that they only match people who reproduce

Oh absolutely! The question is less whether they exist, because I highly doubt we've somehow exhausted and encountered them all, but whether we'll get to know anything about the others

We're late enough in the series that even though we could...should we? There's so much going on, introducing more to solve whatever problem we encounter just gives us more to keep track of; especially since it would likely accompany the introduction of a new person, too, and the cast is huge as it is (granted it's not required, but generally Shannon's introduced them via someone with the ability)

But yes, I'm certain there are more abilities :)

Glossary

Assignment: The person you are assigned to make a gift for. You will receive a list of their requests and pick one to make.

Canon Tag: A tag that has been used enough that AO3's volunteers have organized into the tag list. These are the ones that appear on the dropdown menu when you're entering tags.

DNW: "Do Not Want," a list of things you do not want included in a gift for you. Everyone is encouraged to have one of these, and it must be followed by your gifter. DNWs must be reasonable, clear, and polite, but they can be petty ("none of this popular ship").

Exchange: A "gift exchange," where everyone receives a gift of a fan creation, and everyone makes a gift of a fan creation.

Match: When you offer something someone else requests, or you request something someone else offers, you "match" with them! You will need to at least have one offer that matches someone else's request in order to participate.

Offer: When you sign up, you will make a list of things you "offer" to create.

Pinch hitter: Someone who makes an emergency gift for someone whose gifter dropped out. You are welcome to participate only as a pinch hitter.

Request: When you sign up, you will make a list of things you "request" other people create.

Tag nominations: A period of time where people can nominate the relationships and AUs they want involved in the exchange. These will be the ONLY relationships and AUs permitted, so you want to nominate tags!

Treat: An extra gift you make with no expectation of a gift in return! You can make them for anyone in the exchange, whether or not you're assigned to them. It's just a fun and nice thing to do!

Gift Minimums:

Fic: 1000 words, with an ending

Art: A drawing completed to a level you would normally post as "finished"

FAQ

What counts as a fairy tale?

I am using a broad definition! Any story that contains fairy tale elements: enchantments, curses, witches, wizards, warlocks, magic, talking animals, fairies, fae, trickery, etc... is allowed in the exchange! This could include a classic fairy tale, like Hansel and Gretel; an adaptation like Tangled, Ella Enchanted, or Land of Stories; or even an original fairy tale!

During tag nominations, people will "nominate" the specific AUs (fairy tales) they want included. These will be the only ones eligible for the exchange, so get an AO3 account and participate in tag nominations if you want to make sure something is included!

What if I don't match with anyone?

If no one wants to receive what you offer to make: We will give you an opportunity to offer more things. If you do not want to, unfortunately, you will not be able to participate in the exchange.

If no one offers to make what you want to receive: You can still participate. We will put you up as a pinch hit, meaning people can offer to make a gift for you without being assigned to.

What if I don't get a gift?

We will not reveal the works until everyone has a gift. If no one picks up a pinch hit, the exchange will remain closed until someone does. Everyone who participates will receive a gift.

What isn't allowed in the exchange?

For the comfort of the most number of participants: noncon, incest, bestiality, romantic relationships between characters who are canonically adults (over 18) and characters who are canonically minors (under 18), and NSFW are not permitted.

Considering the series, graphic violence and major character death are allowed, but only if the recipient says they're okay with receiving them.

My recipient requested ten things! How many do I have to make?

Only one! You can choose any of your recipient's requests to make, even ones you didn't originally offer.

Can I make more than one gift?

If you have more than one AO3 account, you may sign up multiple times. But please only do this if you're sure you can finish both gifts in time!

You can also be a pinch hitter, filling in for people who drop out, or make "treats"--extra gifts just for fun. But you won't receive extra gifts for either of these things.

In the kotlc fandom and within the books there's a lot of joking about how oblivious Sophie is. Which is true, obviously in the books she's constantly missing signs that Keefe and Fitz like her.

Nobody seems to acknowledge that a lot of the reasons Sophie is so oblivious are because she doesn't believe she's worth having a crush on. Within the first few pages of the first book, when Fitz goes to talk to her, she immediately questions why such a cute boy would ever want to talk to her. The only thing she's confident in is her intelligence- and that's ripped away from her when she learns she's an elf and realizes she doesn't know how the world works at all. She only wears grey and tries to not stand out, and she overall doesn't think of herself very highly.

I haven't reread the series in a while, so I don't really have anything to say about the rest of book 1 through Nightfall. I can't remember anything specific to help my point, but I'll probably make another post about this when I've reread the series.

That brings me to Flashback. In the scene where Sophie and Fitz are in the reception hall at Everglen, they're discussing match lists, and Sophie thinks about the odds of her ending up on Fitz's lists. And even after all this time in the elven world, she still thinks of herself as "the weird girl with the freaky brown eyes who grew up with humans and will never fully fit into her world." By this point, she has five abilities, a lot of friends, and she knows how important she is to the world. But she still has low self-esteem. She almost starts crying in this scene because she feels so ridiculous for ever thinking Fitz could like her.

Sophie had no friends before moving to the lost cities. she grew up constantly hearing everyone's negative thoughts about her, including her teachers, classmates, and family. That'd fuck anyone up.

There's also a lot to say about how she's still an anomaly in the lost cities. But I haven't read the series in a really long time.

To sum it all up I really think Sophie's lack of confidence isn't talked about a lot, when it probably should be? It's an interesting aspect to her and I just had to say something about it.

I feel like I'm the only one that thinks the Lost Cities wouldn't be homophobic

Like I absolutely understand that the matchmaking system is built upon genetics and having children and so it seems logical that elves would only like hetero couples

but 1. As humans we have technically already figured out a way for two women to reproduce with each other so there's a very good chance elves have too

2. Shannon emphasizes constantly that the Lost Cities have different prejudices from the Forbidden Cities and the reason they think of themselves as so much better than humans is because they don't have all the issues that humans do so to add homophobia would take away from that entire message

3. Because of immortality many elves never get married or even apply to the match the only thing in the Lost Cities that is seen as scandalous is marrying and having children with someone who's not on your match list

4. the fact that many elves don't have children or get married (and as far as I'm aware aren't judged for it) I don't think the having children aspect is actually as important as some people think it is

5. all these same things apply to trans people I think there's a very good chance that when an elf is trans they just tell their parents and transition literally right after they come out (which could be right after their out of the womb considering they can talk immediately) because gender has no standing on what ability an elf will manifest

Bonus, I also think the elves being pro-life because of inception dates (I've only seen this a couple times but still) is also not something that would actually happen I think the elves almost definitely have 100% affective contraceptive so they literally don't have children until they want to and they most likely count by inception date 1. because they can easily tell what day it is because of the weird belly button thing and 2. because elvin biology and/or development is clearly different from humans considering they talk from birth and so it's more accurate to count from the inception date

On that point I want to once again emphasize that elves don't have the same norms and culture that humans do they have entirely different ways of living and don't have the same discrimination or prejudices that humans do and it defeats the point to say they do

Honestly I think the main reason there aren't any queer people in kotlc is because Shannon just like hasn't thought to add them

I also got off-track quite a few times

grady and kesler were best friends all throughout their time at foxfire (their friendship was even stronger after kesler got booted out before elite levels)

kesler dated juline for a bit, then introduced grady to her sister (edaline)

grady was heads over heels for her but edaline was an oblivious sweetheart

cassius and edaline previously dated

they were cute together

they broke up bc of reasons (which may or may not include a mystery sencen sister~)

grady and cassius were also really close friends for years. and years. cassius became a lot more hostile after oralie got elected as a councillor (which is part of a theory of mine that i might talk about in another post) and the two of them drifted apart

and cassius kind of insulted edaline in front of grady, which resulted in him getting mesmerized to slap himself :D

grady and edaline moved in together on the day of their 10 year anniversary of being together

he surprised her with a new addition to the animal reserve (edaline was over at havenfield 90% of her time)

VERDI!! grady knew edaline loved t-rexes, and she instantly fell in love with verdi

a-hem. elwin's parents fought a lot and didn't pay much attention to him :(

he had a cousin named amarelle sencen

she was a couple years older than him and they were so close :D

elwin spent most of his time at amarelle's house

when he was 15 and amarelle was 18, amarelle's parents had another child

elwin was happy, he had another cousin :D

the child was named cassius (>:D)

amarelle moved out after she completed elite levels (she was an empath~)

elwin's parents literally forgot he existed most of the time so he moved in with amarelle

cassius was 2 at this point and ANOTHER child was born (elwin had another cousin!)

the name..? ahah no.

elwin saw his aunt and uncle a lot, and cassius looked up to him.

elwin babysitted cassius and the mystery child a heap, until he went to elite levels

it was around then he began to take an interest in physician and doctory stuff (look at me using scientific words /jj)

amarelle supported him every step of the way

she gave him a stegosaurus stuffed animal

he named it stinky >:D

elwin was so grateful for that he began to grow a stuffed animal collection

but stinky was always his most favourite

elwin went and got qualifications after elite levels and stuff

but he still lived with amarelle

she owned a place called splendour plains

amarelle was working as a jeweller, she often made jewellry for elwin to wear

(also when keefe was temporarily living in splendour plains, amarelle still owned it but elwin knew that the two of them had never met so he claimed it was his own house. amarelle was on a trip with a close friend while keefe was there.)

amarelle didn't have the best relationship with cassius

but she showed up to the opening ceremonies thing for Foxfire when he became a Level one :D

elwin came as well

he cheered cassius on the whole time

elwin gave cassius a special stuffed animal after that (it may or may not still be in cassius possession~)

elwin began to get really busy and he didn't have much time to hang out with cassius and the mystery child

fintan puts on mini fire shows for her

consider for a moment, if you will. Soulmates being an actual thing in KOTLC, but only the elves. And then consider, most of them never actually get with their soulmate. They just follow the match system

imagine if someone had a soulmate but the two would be considered a 'bad match' because one of them is talentless or a twin or has a 'dangerous' ability????

and like- some people very much Do end up with their soulmate, but only if the other person is on their list or the two are willing to be a 'bad match'

more below the cut since i kind of just go on a rant about this

this very much was started because i had an idea bout soulmate Fitz/Sophie and how that would add another layer of complexity to their relationship, and also thinking about them maybe not realizing that they are soulmates??? Sophie not knowing soulmates are actually a thing because to everyone else that's normal knowledge but not to her... thinking about Fitz hoping that Sophie is his soulmate but not even knowing if it'd be possible because of her being an experiment... and even though I'm not a fan of Sokeefe imagine Keefe desperately hoping that Sophie is his soulmate because she's this light and how could she not be?

But she isn't and the angst potential that could bring??? or what if Sophie just doesn't have a soulmate? what if that's another thing that makes her different from the others, because all the elves have soulmates and she doesn't. it makes her different, it makes her an outsider again. but she doesn't get this because she doesn't know that soulmates exist, and if soulmates did exist for elves it could explain why we as humans have all these ideas of soulmates from when we interacted with the elves???

Like, all the kinds of soulmates are possible for elves and that's why we have so many different types when we write?? Soulmates who have marks on their bodies, we get that from elves. soulmates who have writing, or can hear their soulmates voice or anything we get from elves which would be such an interesting way to explore another dynamic that once existed between the two species. one species ((humans)) who view this as so romantic and wonderful because it means that there is someone out there for you and the other species ((elves)) who view it as annoying because they are matched to who would be the best for them, and so many don't end up with their soulmate because they'd be 'bad' together????

That is to say, KOTLC Soulmate Canon-Compliant AU (oooh, wait i could incorporate this into my kotlc rewrite... waiiiiit.....)

KOTLC Miraculous AU (pt. 2)

Did not expect the people saying they would actually read it;

So fun fact, it's been a hot minute since I last reread KOTLC (well aware the graphic novel doesn't Really Really count). So now I'm making a list of Fitz character flaws that I want to use my narrative to punish him for, so that he can grow, in my AU.

Because Fitz isn't just the angry golden boy. He's someone who doesn't realize all this privilege is a privilege. The Vackers may fight for 'good' but they still largely benefited from the KOTLC system. Playing back into why Plagg is a good match for him-in canon, both Adrien and Keefe don't care about the status that being Mari/Sophie's boyfriend comes with. But Fitz does.

So Detruire is flirty towards Ladybug. Because who better to impress and benefit his status than the superheroine of Paris?

Then the attraction stops being superfluous. He gets a vibe check-from LB or Plagg, maybe both. Plagg has had too many holders to count, and too many who were angry but angry because of their low status in life because of where they were born/born into poverty. Fitz is angry because of his pressure and lack of freedom (in this AU)-which while is equally valid, means that Plagg will be able to vibe check Fitz's privilege. Will be able to question him, call him out, get him to realize the superfluous reasons why he chases Ladybug.

So that he falls in love with Sophie. The clumsy, funny, slightly awkward classmate who smiles just a little crooked and tugs on her eyelashes and isn't all-powerful, isn't all-seeing. Just Sophie.

(Not the perfect Ladybug. Not the perfect Moonlark.)

She screams in Detruire's face that Ladybug isn't perfect, she's not perfect, it's not possible for anyone to be perfect and chasing such an ideal is stupid. See her realize her own hypocrisy. Let Ladybug watch as Detruire changes, stops flirting and gets more genuinely joking instead. Treating her as a real person and not something to attain. LB watches Detruire change, and she starts to fall for someone who has proven they can. Because Detruire listened, and Detruire is trying, and fuck SHE JUST GOT HIM TO QUIT FLIRTING WITH HER-

Biana as Kagami; BEFORE I GET SHOT. Remember that canonly badass Della will have to be Emilie Agreste. So while Fitz is homeschooled (and I already have a plot reason worked out why Della agrees) Biana Vacker is sent to multiple boarding schools from a young age. When she returns, she doesn't like Sophie trying to make moves ON !HER BROTHER!! So for a while, Sophie sees her as an enemy. (also that means no Kagami/Adrien will exist in this AT ALL JUST TO CLARIFY UTTERLY)

Biana eventually befriending Sophie despite disliking her at first. Biana seeing her brother's indecision and making HER MOVE. Short Sophie/Biana while Soph tries to get over her current thing for Detruire. Biana TELLING HER OWN BROTHER NOT TO HESITATE IM TAKING LUKANETTE AND MAKING IT KAGAMINETTE I DO WHAT I WANT

Btw yk how in canon Mari and Adrien don't question their powers? Sophie and Fitz are too nosy not to HAHA AND THEY START HUNTING DOWN THIS AU'S MASTER FU ALONG WITH HAWKY

Also side note that's kinda irrelevant; When Tam and Linh eventually come in when I finally figure out how to include them, assume they are either already adopted by Tiergan (this will be indicated by their last names being Alenefar and them being proudly introduced as such) or have yet to be adopted by Tiergan and thus the plotline will come later (not introducing themselves with last names)

(@tiana4evahh okay fine I won't scrap this, but I will likely make changes if I ever write in full ao3 fanfic form and not just bullet-pointed)

And finally! While I am taking suggestions for this AU, I'm not going to do stuff because one character in KOTLC matches one in MLB perfectly. That'd be boring. I put characters in slightly unexpected roles because I think the angle would be fun to explore and wouldn't be the same role, same character, same lines. This is adapting MLB's story and adapting KOTLC's characters. I'm not looking to make perfect comparisons and copies (hence my reasoning why Keefe is not the Chat Noir/love interest in pt 1) I'm trying to make a new story where everything is not a repeat of just one of the stories it's adapted from. Not just a copy of MLB but with different names. So please do not expect as such.

Go ahead and rag on me for repeating this too much, but I've always preferred story value and not surface comparisons, which is why I am trying to make this completely clear. I'm not going to make one KOTLC character be the exact same role they had in KOTLC. This is why I am exploring the temporary Sophie/Biana. If you tell me the roles don't perfectly match, then okay! Go create your own AU! (this is not sarcastic) I just don't want getting comments on the whole [but it's not the same thing] because it's not MEANT to be an exact match, and again, sorry for being repetitive. I may include this on all posts of this AU until I finally start writing and fire spoilers.

Short desc: Ariadne is a former/partially retired Council informant who grew up as part of the nobility. After going to exillium on an assignment as a coach she fell for an actual coach. Ensue a messy breakup as her intentions are revealed which she’s still not over

Backstory: Ariadne Varil was born into a lower noble family, as the middle of her siblings, never quite old enough to run with her older sister’s friends, most of whom were in the elite levels by the time she started tutoring, and too reserved to ever really fall in with her brother’s friends, all of whom were menaces in their own right, despite being only a year younger than her. She manifested quite young as a flasher, though never had much talent in her ability and excelled more in her other classes and areas of study. Her father was a low ranking regent, but his meager connections were enough to get her an internship type job going into the elite levels, working under the then Emissary Clarette.

As her education became more focused, she took more classes focused on politics and history, and had quite an affinity for seeing through the glitz and glamor in the upper echelons of the elven world and being able to analyze what it was and understand people’s positions. When she graduated she officially became an assistant to an older Emissary, one who’d long since established himself at the crux of Elven politics, though continued discrete communication and under the table work for Clarrette. She was never especially close with her family, and moved to an apartment in Atlantis nearly immediately after graduating. Her matching was handled as a quiet affair, she simply got her list, sat down for dinner with the eligible suitors, and talked it through with them. She never saw it as anything other than a necessary part of maintaining her status among the nobility and blending into the masses, and made that fact quite clear to her potential spouses. She eventually married her husband, though they continued living separately, leading their own lives and really only presenting as a couple when strictly necessary, especially for the first hundred years or so of their marriage. They each had their own aspirations and affiliations, and that was quite enough for them.

She was just over 200 years old when Clarette became a councillor, and she had been serving as a regent for some time. Her role got elevated to that of an Emissary and she was trusted with her first more important project than simply passing along the little whispers she could scrounge up. Without any official ways to keep track of elves that had either left or been banished from larger society, she went simply to gather information in one of the larger communities, posing as someone who had become disillusioned with the Lost Cities and couldn’t “stay in their crystal palaces” anymore. The plan had been to stay for a century, long enough to engrain herself and pass along valuable information, but it got cut short when her cover was blown less than halfway through her assignment. She managed to get out and return home, but not before picking up some rather obvious scarring. Ariadne moved in with her husband for the first extended period of time, and took quite a bit of time to herself, recuperating on her new estate that she’d been absent from up until that point. She was a bit conflicted, after all despite her unfortunate parting spending time away from the Lost Cities had been eye opening to her and it was odd being back without anyone to really talk about what she’d seen. It’s why when she was presented with the opportunity to work on another longer term mission, this time based in Exilium, she agreed, becoming one of the coaches of the program. There she met fellow Coach Nikola, and took an immediate liking to her for how genuine she seemed. It was refreshing after her time spent back in elven upper society, and rarely did Niko ever mince her words or hide what she was feeling. Ariadne’s job at Exillium was simple, be eyes to report back anything that might be happening among the students and fit in as a coach, but growing closer to Niko she saw just how much the other coach cared about the kids, even if the culture of the program dissuaded her from showing it. Seeing someone with such passion for carving their own path against the grain, trying against all odds to do good, when Ari had simply been skating along and following orders her whole life, dealing with information she was rather detached from, it was a change, and a bit of a wake up call. She wasn’t really all that surprised as she developed feelings, she’d had feelings for colleagues and acquaintances before, but her marriage for the match and duty to her job had always prevented her from doing much more than acknowledging them. Here, under a name that wasn’t quite hers, with someone quite interested in holding her accountable, she had no such obligations, and fell into a relationship of sorts, even partially moving into Niko’s apartment after some time had passed.

Of course all things come to an end, and some of the students at Exilium had been not so discreetly planning some illegal activities as a way to get back to the council. It’d come to the coaches attention, and consensus lead by Niko was to let it diffuse naturally. Of course the kids were bound to be angry, but they were all talk and needed a place to vent their righteous frustration. Privately, Ariadne disagreed and after a bit of internal debate reported it up through her pipeline. It was dealt with by the proper authorities, resulting in punishments being meted out and the kids written off from most chances to rejoin the lost cities, but in the process Ariadne’s role in it was revealed and Nikola realized she had just been there as an informant and thus felt rightfully betrayed and angry. They had a singular blow up fight before Nikola resolved to icing Ariadne out, something that worked as Ariadne was back in the lost cities within the year. She now has whatever the elven spy equivalent of a desk job is, attending functions and keeping an ear to the ground, but otherwise has very little to do. Despite time having passed since, she’s quite conflicted about the whole thing, feeling just bad enough to have the seeds of discontent slowly sowed. Angsts about her estate, is rather dramatic with the whole situation and feels isolated at this point. She’s currently working as simply someone with her ear to the ground at galas and whatnot, the elven spy equivalent of a desk job, but is a bit resentful of the whole thing not quite sure how she feels about it all.

Stella’s current goal, as she is only 13 years old, is to beat her father’s detention record. Keefe Sencen, who has the longest record in foxfire history, seems to be encouraging this behavior instead of discouraging it.

POTENTIAL

Ever since Stella was a young elf, she’d been hearing stories about the adventures her parents have had to face. And as Stella grew, she realized just how famous and important her parents were. This caused Stella to be determined to do something just as important. And sometimes she feels that she is not living up to her potential.

A RARE ABILITY

Jax is an inflictor, which isn’t the most common ability to have. When Jax was young, he didn’t know how to control his abilities and accidentally inflicted on his family and friends. Thankfully, when he started at Foxfire, Sophie Foster volunteered to mentor him. The council still keeps a very close eye on him.

A STRONG OPINION

The ongoing debate for the Matchmaking ban has influenced many including Jax, who’s the son of a bad match, to stand up for what’s right. He is against matchmaking and hopes the ban gets passed for a better future.

NO BODY, NO CRIME

Jax believes that the murderer of his twelve year old sister, Maselle, was his own older brother, Ethane. Jaxon has yet to prove this claim, but he strongly holds onto it.

Aaron tends to be quite shy, and it takes a lot for him to build up trust with others. He currently  has one friend, Ashlyn Ella Terrin and they are inseparable. Ashlyn is a phaser, so many tease them about being a yin and yang. Despite the rumors, there is no romantic relationship between the two.

Given their homeschooling, Aaron’s family is extremely close. Aaron wants to grow up to be a powerful shade like his father, and works extremely hard. His mother is a planner, and loves to host parties. No matter how busy they are, they always make time for him.

Aaron’s abilities are by far the best of his generation. His level in schooling underestimates the raw talent he has. His father knows that some day, Aaron will be the best shade there ever was.
