STAR WARS INTO DARKNESS

A (Salt) Review of Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker.

Warning 1: All opinions are mine and no one (sadly) paid me for them.

Warning 2: I’m going to strive to be charitable as possible. Keyword, STRIVE.

It finally came. The conclusion to the Skywalker Saga, a nine film series starting with Shmi Skywalker and her lineage.

When we left the The Last Jedi; Finn was tenderly checking up on Rose who endangered her life to save him. Steadily finding his place in the Resistance and deciding that it was a cause worth fighting for. Ben Solo, also known to the galaxy as Kylo Ren, has just killed his life long abuser but failed to relinquish himself from the ties of the past. Rey was dealing with detaching herself from the idea that she needed to Be Someone in Order to Do Something only to realise that she, a nobody, was good enough. As Leia Organa said, we have all we need.

Cool right?

Yeah, just forget that movie. Actually, just forget like any development that occurred over the last two movies. Furthermore, turn your brain off. No, really please remove any kind of higher cognitive function and any knowledge of Star Wars beyond “pew, pew, pew” and “wOOO”. That’s literally the only way to truly enjoy this film.

This movie is a quest. A long big-budget multi-step fetch quest. Fetch quests are a common part of RPGs and can be enjoyable! Add to the narrative! Interactive. A movie that is nothing but fetch quest after fetch quest to the point that honestly, the first two thirds of the movie could have been dropped because it was so distressingly nonsensical.

Loose summary;

Ben Solo is on a planet. Being very very lorge and murking people left and right. Why? Because reasons. That this planet happens to be Mustafar and that he’s killing Vader Cultists evidently is not considered relevant. Even though Ben Solo introduction in TFA, which JJ wrote (with the assistance of Kasdan and Arndt), is basically as Vader’s #1 fanboy. But who cares about narrative information when you have sweet sweet red lighting and like a flight scene.

Anyway, Ben heads to Exegol because evidently that’s where the fancy schmancy totally Not A Holocron is directing him towards. In which he approaches some goth-esque temple with vats of Snokes. Yes, You Heard Correctly, Vats of Snokes. And Palpatine. Who’s just hanging on a crane. Just chillin’ and gleefully tells Ben Solo that he’s been every voice in his head since birth. So learning your abuser is still alive is totally dope. But hey, PALPATINE IS BACK! REMEMBER PALPATINE? ISN’T THAT COOL, yells JJ Terrio desperately trying to like Hype You Up And Remind You Of The Star Wars of Their Childhood.

Finn and Poe “I Have Literally No Purpose To Any of This Narrative and JJ Terrio is About to Fuck Over My Backstory” Dameron are getting data from a contact. For some reason a glorified dick-shaped Alien is there. Consequently, this is the same alien that replaced Rose Tico on merchandise. A reasonable person with minimal brain function would assume it’s because he plays a critical role in the plot. Remember what I said about thinking? Stop it. Klaud is there primarily for you to admire that JJ’s tentacle kink is Alive and Well and Thus Everything Is True (tm) Star Wars Again.

Rey is floating surrounded by rocks because That’s What Cool Jedi Do. Then she does a training course because after two films we have absolutely no proof that she has any fight training, according to Reddit and like JJ Terrio is trying to get Reddit to go to the Star Wars Prom with them. So, we need a training montage and Rey going to robo-Leia and saying that she will “earn [Leia’s] brother’s saber”. Why would she want to earn a grumpy curmudgeon who fucked over his only nephew and hid from his twin sister for years? Well, JJ Terrio dreamed of earning Luke’s saber and like what is the purpose of writing other than Wish Fulfillment.

Palpatine is back! Why? We don’t know and we don’t even know what he said because evidently it was decided that it belonged in Fortnite...instead of the film. Why? Here’s a lollipop and a pew pew to stop thinking sweetie. Either way he’s on Exegol and Rey saw notes scribbled in the margins that you need a Sith Holocro-- I mean ~Sith Wayfinder~ --because JJ has never seen Star Wars since he saw it in the theaters in 1983-- to get there. Which is on Pasaana.

WHICH IS HAVING SPACE BURNING MAN RIGHT NOW! (which happens every forty two years. Which is how long ago Star Wars Episode 4 Premiered. Remember fans! Isn’t that a Cool Thing To Drop? says JJ Terrio deftly skimming Reddit in order to gain fanbros love and affection and nostalgia boners.) LOOK AT ALL THE ALIENS DOING THE SPACE MACARENA! Because WOO DON’T YOU LOVE PARTY SCENES?

The force bond shows up and you can some how transfer stuff between the bond? Which like in the hands of another writer would be fascinating and engaging. Sadly, this is a JJ Terrio production and nuanced storytelling and dialogue is Fake and Not Star Wars.

Either way, Ben knows that they’re there and they are running from stormtroopers RIGHT INTO LANDO CALRISSIAN,-- remember him? goes JJ Terrio. You remember Lando right?. I do, I go. I’ve seen the movies and you’ve given no reason why Finn and Rey would know who the fuck he is seeing how he’s evidently been living as a hermit In The Same Outfit for over a decade. (BUT REMEMBER HIM, whines J.J. Terrio. Yes, I do. I SAW THE FUCKING OT JJ).

Anyway, more exposition occurs because JJ Terrio has no understanding how visual language works and it detracts from Real Star Wars Things Like - Space Chases - Pew Pew - Witty quips! because Witty quips! Are Important for A Star Wars, says JJ Terrio.

Nevermind that stormtroopers could fly since the Clone Wars and there’s literally no reason as to why Finn would not know this but like that would require you to give him

- a character arc - character growth - dialogue beyond “WOOOOO” and “REYYYYYY” (also side notes; it was depressing as fuck seeing Finn’s growth in TLJ to going beyond being Rey-centric to only spend the entire movie yelling a White Lady’s Name. I GO TO THE THEATRE TO NOT SEE REALITY, JJ.)

JJ Terrio: BUT HE’S FORCE SENSITIVE?? me, who’s been on the Finn is Force Sensitive Train since TFA: AND YOU DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WITH IT AND IMPLIED THAT IT WAS ONLY REASON HE WAS ABLE TO FIGHT THE STORMTROOPER PROGRAMMING??? (i.e. this is really fucking gross eugenics shit pls stop JJ Terrio and like just stop)

*deep breath*

ANYWAY, where was I? Oh yeah, Star Wars Into Darkness.

Either way, they find the Subtle Knife a Sith dagger? Along with force healing foreshadowing. But they have a dagger! Which They Can’t Read! But Threepio can! But He Can’t Say It Out Loud Because His Programming Forbids It.

And then the KoR, the galatic boy band, and Ben show up because of course. And they capture Chewie and put him on a transport.

Rey, of course, reaches out to Stop The Transport.

Ben, tries to stop her.

They to a back and forth that is similar to TLJ without any of the emotional build up of TLJ but that’s because JJ Terrio believes Emotions Are Not Star Wars.

And she lets loose LIGHTNING and makes the transport blow up and she believes Chewie is dead. Problem: Chewie isn’t dead. Which means she would be able to sense him in the Force. “But Mneme”, you say, “the Force isn’t like a GPS where you just Sense People.” That’s fair! Except....then...she does...when she’s on the Snow Planet. So like???

Either way, we have a Dagger that We Need to Read That Threepio Can’t Say Out Loud.

A Solution That Uses Braincells: well we know that the Millenium Falcon has three droid brains! So like we could just hook up Threepio to like the Falcon and transmit the codes and get some really great Easter eggs re: the Falcon and like the setup of the ship!

anyway, he needs a memory wipe in order for it. Which is a really touching scene....or would have been if it wasn’t immediately retconned because like R2 has backups. So like whoo.

So that’s like *two* instances of fakeout death because like Nothing Is Of Consequence Because Star Wars.

Except Leia dying because fuck moms, say JJ Terrio. Moms are Not Star Wars. The Reddit bros have now started to return their text messages.

More busy stuff happens. Hux dies. I wasn’t able to thoroughly enjoy it because by this point I had A Headache from all the Pew Pew and Wooooo~~.

Ben tells Rey that like ~her power is Palpatines power because like How Else Can Rey Be Powerful.” Does this make any sense? Not at all but like Don’t Think Too Hard.

He also finally takes off his stupid helmet that was glued together by ~Sith Alchemy~ that they bought from Space!Michaels.

Rey is vaguely disraught but like She Finally Has A Purpose and the Reddit Bros are Appeased.

More shit happens. Does it matter? Not really.

They meet Jannah! She’s cool and has the exact same backstory as Finn. Because in Star Wars There Are Only (2) Backstories for black characters. They line up the dagger that is old as fuck with the death star wreckage. Which lines up exactly. Evidently erosion is Not A Thing.

Finn and Jannah and basically go, Wow Isn’t It Rad That Because We Have The Force We [Finn, Jannah and her crew] Were Able To Reject Brainwashing and Bounce Because We Have The Force.

Rey runs off and Finn yells “REY!!” at some point but at least he knows his best angles while he does it.

Rey meets Dark!Rey who’s a vision....for five seconds. Because Remember if Girls Go Dark They Have Sinned In The Eyes of The Force. Ben shows up and crushes the Holocron because I refuse to call it that stupid-ass name-- dear fucking lord his hand is big--and WELP I GUESS I HAVE THE ONLY ONE.

They fight because We Need A Light Saber Fight Except This One is So Lackluster.

Then Leia reaches out to do something that will use up all her strength says Maz. How does Maz know this? Idk but she’s played by Lupita N’yongo so at least it sounds Deep And Wise because That’s Why You Cast Black People...to sound deep and wise. =_= **deeper breathe**

Anyway, she reaches out to her son! Her son hears her? I think? Either way it distracts him which lets Rey impale him. Except then she heals him?? And is like, I wanted to take your hand, Ben’s hand. which like I’d be fine with if like the movie had like worked for it. But like That Would Involve Actual Conversations Between Characters and We Are Going At 34243242432 pps (parsecs per second) and thus DO NOT HAVE TIme For That.

Ben then has a rehash of the scene from TFA because JJ Terrio is a fucking hack and is unable to create original material and this would have been meaningful if like Any of the Emotions Had Been Earn in The Fucking Film. But hey, I felt .75 of an emotion when Han Solo cradled his cheek so I will accept this. Then he yeets his saber into the ocean. Because. Yeet. Sadly, this movie is Not Over and My Suffering Will Not End

Poe and Finn head back to base with Jannah because I guess that’s what we’re doing? They find out that Leia is dead etc etc etc. The Resistance has a Circle Planning Session for the Final Battle that JJ Terrio lifted straight from ROTJ and the Reddit Bros brought them a corsage for Fanbro Prom. I am reminded that ROTJ was better than this garbage that I Paid Actual Money To Watch. Rey heads to Fish Nun island and decides to pull a Luke Skywalker move even we learned from the Last Movie (TLJ) why that was a Bad Idea but you know WE GET TO SEE LUKE AGAIN IS A GARBAGE WIG BECAUSE REDDIT BROS AMIRITE? We get the most hamfisted performance out of Mark Hamill and I’m just like damn The Last Jedi as a fucking gift and a _Jedi’s weapon is important_ platitude like his dad wasn’t yeeting his saber left and right. But Who Cares About Canon When We Have Pew Pew Pew Pew.

Luke tells her that Yes He And Leia Always Knew She Was A Palpatine which like means - Leia literally did not learn from the Last Time She Obscured Someone’s Parentage and the Fall Out - Actively lied to Rey - Luke actively lied to Rey - jfc this poor girl has been aggressively lied by most of the authority adults in her life??? - HER PARENTS SOLD HER TO PROTECT HER which is such a fucking damning think along with the fact that her parents are idiots and like didn’t think to take her to the new republic and like THERE ARE 23432432 things wrong with this set up but that is a Whole ‘Nother Rant

Also evidently? Leia ended her Jedi Journey (which abbreviated as JJ, coincidence? I THINK NOT.) because she saw her sons demised but evidently....couldn’t sense her son being groomed by Snoke, creation of Palpatine and like this entire movie makes Leia look like an ineffectual idiot?? Like I was really hoping that Leia was going to be able to escape the “Fuck Mom’s” curse of Star Wars BUT I GUESS THAT BECAUSE THAT’S NOT ~true star wars~

Anyway, evidently Leia gave him her saber which I guess she made but no one decided to show that but instead some freakish CGI (that they swore they wouldn’t do) fight scene because like Leia Obviously Isn’t A Real Force User Unless You Use A Lightsaber. The Reddit Bros Nod Sagely. So Rey decides to go to Exegol.....using the Luke’s X-Wing. The Reddit Bros are weeping tears of joy at this point. The Resistance starts their FINAL ASSAULT! THEY HAVE SPACE HORSES RIDING ON A SHIP BECAUSE DOESN’T THAT LOOK COOL! FINN KIND OF USES THE FORCE. THEY DECIDE TO BLOW UP THE STAR DESTROYERS BECAUSE FUCK CHILD SOLDIERS AMIRITE (rip Finn’s Stormtrooper backstory that JJ constructed that He Couldn’t Even Be Arse To Complete or like Think Of Because Like That Would Be Nuanced Shit but like He Gets to - Jump Over Things! - Run! - Know His Angles - Yell desperately After A White Lady because ahahahahha fuck WOC when there’s white p*ssy on the line AMIRITE?)

Either way they’re in trouble and Poe is dismayed and is like yo i’m sorry we’re doomed. Because...that’s.....what generals do. Give The Fuck Up. BUT DON’T WORRY LANDO IS HERE TO SAVE THE DAY BECAUSE EVIDENTLY WHILE THE GALAXY IGNORED LEIA ORGANA’S PLEAS, THEY LISTENED TO LANDO

(Crack theory: He hit up all his exes.)

Rey flies to Exegol to confront Grandpalps. Who never wanted her dead but to become Empress after spending 2.5 movies wanting her dead via puppet!Snoke. Also kudos to JJ Terrio to making a Sith Temple be so fucking boring and lackluster. That Took Skill.\

ANYWAY SHE SEES HER FRIENDS IN TROUBLE MUCH LIKE IN TLJ and in ROTJ but JJ Terrio really really loves his nostalgia and ROTJ was very very very formative evidently. She’s about to Strike Him Down In Anger And Absorb Grandpapa’s essence in order to save her friends but WAIT WHO IS THIS IDIOT RUNNING IN WITH NO FUCKING PLAN Yes, it is Ben Solo channeling his father. As carrying the blaster that Lando gifted to him in Aftermath but like we can only suppose that because who Needs Convos When You Have Pew Pew Pew~ His former Knights show up (who have also never spoken because hahahahah dialogue? Sounds fake. Also moment of Silence of Rian who kept them alive and used Praetorian guards in TLJ instead because he assumed that JJ made them for a meaningful reason because he was Unaware That JJ Was A Fucking Hack)

Anyway, Rey senses him! They do a super cool force bond moment that actually Pays Off and Rey hands off her saber to Ben. Through the force. It’s dope.

#BenSoloChallenge happens.

[In spite of like No Speaking At All, Adam Driver successfully channels the aura of Han Solo in spite of JJ Terrio desperately Insisting That Poe Dameron is Obviously Han Look He Even Ran Spice!!! Look!!]

Eventually they both stand before Palpatine Ready To Throw Down except in stand Palps leeches the lifeforce from them and then yeets Ben into a pit and Rey collapses.

THEN ALL THE JEDI FROM THE MOVIES AND CLONE WARS INCLUDE AHSOKA WHICH MAKES NO SENSE GIVEN CLONE WARS BUT WHAT EVER DON’T YOU FEEL VALIDATED!!! FANS!!! SCREAMS JJ TERRIO

me: no.

Rey pulls a Wonder Woman move because all you need to do to redirect Force Lightning is cross your light sabers. Anyway, that effort kills her (or like maybe not? Says Terrio in multiple interviews because men from Harvard Literally Never Shut Up.)

Ben somehow?? Climbs?? Out of the pit?? Under his own power because The Jedi Still Haven’t Forgiven the Skywalker Line for Anakin. Even though Anakin also reached out to Rey? I’m just assuming the soul of St. Maul of the Pit was yelling angry motivational speeches to get him out of the pit while St. Ventress adding sarcasm commentary comparing Ben and his namesake.

EITHER WAY HE’S OUT OF THE PIT! And is like in agony because Rey is uh in limp ragdoll mode so probably dead? We’re gonna go with dead.

He limps over to her because uh evidently getting yeeted into a pit is Not Good For Ones Health or Limbs.

Ben cradles her in his arms and at that moment I had to Apologize For Everyone I Dragged for Size Kink because Adam Driver is Fucking Large and His Hand is Fucking Huge and I, Mneme, Was Wrong You Are Valid.

*cough* where was I? Ah yes, he’s cradling her in his arms realizing she’s dead and I guess? Channeling the force to heal her. Which it does.

He’s happy! She’s happy!

She says “Ben” breathlessly.

AND THEN SHE SNOGS HIM LIKE THE AWKWARD VIRGINS THAT THEY ARE.

The Force realizes that a Male Skywalker is Getting A Boner and Goes Nope. And he just collapses and fades away at the same time that Leia fades away because ~symmetry~. Was a war going on? Uh maybe but like LETS NOT WORRY ABOUT LOGISTICS BUT INSTEAD CUT TO EWOKS!! WE ALL LOVE EWOKS RIGHT!! Rey flies back to Ajan Kloss. Poe, Finn, and Rey hug because this movie is almost over and they can stop trying to sell a non-existent trio created because JJ didn’t have the balls to let Poe stay dead in TFA.

Commander D’Arcy kisses her wife in the background but no one really notices and it was cut in Singapore but like JJ Terrio are Woke AF Y’ALL but not too woke because else they’ll get dumped by Reddit Bros.

No, we are Sadly Not Done.

LETS GO TO A SAND PLANET. No, it’s not Jakku it’s Tatooine~ DON’T YOU GUYS REMEMBER TATOOINE!! go JJ Terrio.

You mean the planet where Anakin Skywalker was a slave, Luke Skywalker desperately wanted to leave, and Leia Organa was put into that humiliated outfit? Yes. I remember.

REY’S HERE TO BURY LUKE AND LEIA’S SABERS HERE!! At the Lars homestead that is somehow intact....in spite of Jawas.

What wha-- why??, you may ask.

Well Luke never got to show Leia his home planet, goes JJ Terrio. Literally anyone who saw ROTJ.....they were on it in then?? JJ Terrio: i can’t see mariah carey dot gif

Rey also shows off her new lightsaber that was evidently crafted from her staff but we were not shown that on screen because like It Was Considered To Emotional for this Film.

Then finally some old woman passes by and is like Who are you? Rey: Rey Old Nosy Lady: Rey who? *Rey stares at the Force Ghosts of Luke and Leia looking like her parents* Rey: Rey Skywalker JJ TERRIO: SEEEEE WE DID REY SKYWALKER!!! AREN’T WE COOL me: she took the name of a grumpy old man who rejected her and whom she bounced off with his shit because he was being a dick....OKAY JAN

(ffs they could have let her take the name Organa but like Fuck Women amirite? *DRINKS*)

and yeah that’s it. Kid that was brainwashed as a child was reduced to going WHOOOOO every 5 seconds with no thought regarding his fellow stormtroopers who are still brainwashed.

Kid that was abandoned under the guise of ~love~ and sold to an abusive guardian and struggled and starved for years returns to a planet of sand and yes I know that she is probably going else where but that was a choice they made to have the last shot of her Alone with a Droid staring at the twin suns because JJ Terrio have been doing nothing but spraying nostalgia in my face for just under 2 and a half hours.

Kid who was actively groomed since childhood and only just now released from said clutches but lol can’t atone because he dead now.

Kid who lost her sister to the machine of war is pushed aside because she dared to exist.

and Poe.

The End of the Skywalker Saga y’all.

Bonus: “Uh, Mneme what about Rose?” She got exactly a 76 seconds that she acted her heart out in but evidently seeing a non-submissive Asian woman in Star Wars was too much for people last film so that uh Essentially Cut Her Out. Don’t worry they made sure to give her a quarter of a page in the visual dictionary and the Merry the Hobbit two page spread. So like Don’t Worry The Asian Girl Will Not Hurt You. “Mneme, what as the point of Poe?” Fuck, if I fucking know.

My final musings/speculation on all the TROS TV spots

I’m so sad that this is my final write up for TROS speculation. You can find my previous “End” TV spot breakdown here, “Fate” one here, and my other TROS trailer breakdown here.

Timeline stuff

Costumes are the biggest indicator of the timeline in the TROS footage we’ve seen so far. Poe starts by wearing his scarf and gloves, then he gets an arm injury and wraps the wound with said scarf. Later back at the Resistance base, he gets it properly bandaged and takes off his gloves. And I suspect that, for the final fight, he changes into his pilot get up and helmet (see the images below for his outfit timeline). Similarly Rey has her staff and bag or does not in various trailer footage.

JJ told us that Pasaana takes place towards the start of the film. I reaaally want to know why Rey, Finn, and Poe all have bags. They must serve a function in the story. I feel like the Resistance gang is on a mission to collect something, hence the bags. And I think that one of the things that’ll eventually be carried in Rey’s bag is the mysterious dagger she’s seen with.

Here’s Rey on Pasaana at the Aki-Aki’s festival, with a beaded neck with bits of material or paper that are pastel pink, green, and yellow. They remind me of “omikuji” which are Japanese fortune-telling paper strips that can be found in shrines and temples (see below). As Pasaana is at the start of the film, this seems very fitting for Rey, “what will her fortune be?”. Rey still has her saddle bag on.

We can see that the FO crash the festival and are in pursuit of the Resistance members, we know from the comics that Kylo has placed a bounty on them all.

On the left of screen you can see some Aki-Aki angrily chasing after the resistance and the two speeders. So I think the resistance definitely borrowed (*stole*) them from the locals to get away from the FO.

I like how the shape of the two speeders are very different. TROS has some great design all round from what we’ve seen so far.

Here’s Rey looking v angry, and she still has her bag on but no longer wears the necklace.

We know that Kylo and the Knights of Ren are also on Pasaana, so it’ll be interesting to see how/when the KoR interact with the Resistance. I have a feeling that the two speeders will be spilt up, and Rey will end up coming face-to-face with Kylo.

And then there’s this scene of the Resistance inside a cave on Pasaana, all with their bags on, and they don’t look happy to see something/someone one. I think this may be once they all meet up again after the chase?

Now for the Rey flips over Kylo’s TIE Silencer scene. It’s odd because for this scene Rey doesn’t have her staff or her bag with her. Just her ignited saber. But this is still clearly Pasaana. So maybe this is after the speeder chase, or on a whole other day? The sun is setting after-all, (which will make for ~very~ romantic lighting hehe).

And I really don’t know if Rey destroys his Whisper, with her saber or with the force, but his ship is definitely toast.

Rey looks at her hand, either because she used the force to destroy his ship OR he force grabbed the legacy lightsaber out of her hands because he is now worthyyyyy. Either way, she looks shook.

Also on Pasaana, we have footage of Rey standing in pretty much the same spot (the landscape background matches up), and she shouts “CHEWIE” and is looking up and distressed. I really don’t know what is happening to Chewie, but the trailer footage does seem to be point towards him being captured by the FO and then Finn/Rey/Poe/C-P30/BB-8/D-O go to Kylo’s FO ship to rescue him. To be honest, I don’t really understand why they’d kidnap Chewie but if it does go down like that then I would love to see the Kylo/Chewie interaction, it’ll be amazing.

And there’s also this footage of Poe on Pasaana, next to a different ship yelling “REY”. Perhaps he’s watching the Reylo stuff go down:

This is The Knights of Ren walking through the same FO ship the Resistance runs through (the corridor is the same shame/blue LEDs). The squad all leave behind muddy footprints. Now in all the images we have of the KoR, they’re outfits are muddy at the bottom, but I wouldn’t have thought they’d get muddy from Pasaana, dirty yes? but not muddy.

(See in this Vanity Fair image, all their boots/pants/coats are covered in dried brown mud).

I wonder if the KoR were with Kylo on this other planet, with the ashy/sandy ground (pictured below). This extended shot also shows that Kylo does slice through that guy he body slams.

Kylo is muddy himself during this fighting scene. I’m also really curious as to why he doesn’t have his helmet on for this forest fight. I feel like this killing/forest mission Kylo is on is more-so a personal one, hence why he’s not wearing the helmet and that’s why he’s alone in his TIE afterwards, still all muddy.

After Pasaana, I think the Resistance gang goes to Kijimi, where they meet Zorri Bliss, find D-O, and Babu Frik does something with C-3PO’s memories. I personally hope they learn more about Anakin/Padme. Finn, Poe, and Finn all have nice warm puffy jackets on. Poe still has his scarf so he hasn’t been injured yet, and as far as we know the crew didn’t have D-O on Pasaana, so this seems to be the correct timeline regarding planetary visits. Chewie is not present.

This is an intersting shot of Rey and Zorri talking outside. I wonder if Zorri will have any juicy information for Rey.

The FO must be notified by someone that the Resistance is there, because the Stormtroopers and Supreme Leader Kylo Ren arrive:

I find it funny how Rey’s warm jacket is gone for her saber confrontation with Kylo:

I also think this scene of the TIE’s chasing the Falcon could be Kijimi as well, because its very cold/icy/snowy.

Then after Kijimi, the Resistance gang *sneaks* into Kylo’s FO ship, to free Chewie, and interestingly they’re not flying the Falcon but another ship (see below), which is weird because in later footage we see the Falcon waiting for Rey to leap to “get away”. This different ship looks a lot like the same one Poe is next to on Pasaana when he shouts “REY!”, as the ramps hinge details look the same.

We see Rey, Finn, and Poe, D-O and BB-8 leaving the ship and killing all the Storm Troopers in the hanger. We can also hear C-3PO, so I think he’s with them too. Rey still has her staff and bag, and so do Finn and Poe.

We see the “trio” (HA) run into some Storm Troopers in a hallway, but Rey uses the Force on them. Then my guess is they decide to spilt up to find Chewie, or whatever else they’re after/doing there.

Rey takes the stairs and HAPPENS TO STUMBLE INTO THIS WHITE ROOM:

This room may be just a shrine to Vader or a gallery style room of Kylo’s Jedi/Sith artefacts. But regardless I think Rey actually has a few minutes to herself in here, because she puts her bag and her staff down. She leans her staff against a big column with mechanical parts (AND RED WIRING *red string of fate*), and you can see that Chewie’s bowcaster is also there.

Sidenote: this kind of doesn’t make sense because in a different shot Rey’s staff is leaning against a white ‘cabinet’ along with Chewie’s ammo belt and bow which is directly opposite the Vader statue. See below, you can glimpse their stuff beneath the falling Vader helmet. And that mechanical column is to the right of screen.

But I digress. At some put Kylo shows up: Enter Kylo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s so Pride and Prejudice, where Mr Darcy finds Elizabeth in his house. And from somewhere Rey produces a dagger. It was either in her bag, or its one of Kylo’s artefacts that she’s grabbed.

This set is SO COOL. It’s very symmetrical and geometric, and it reminds me sooo much of Vader’s ESB mediation chambers shapes plus its white interior! (see below).

They fight, and either purposefully or haphazardly destroy the Vader stand.

And I wonder what happens post-fight, because later in the bunker THIS HAPPENS AND IT LOOKS SO LONGING AND ROMANTIC. His helmet is off, Rey no longer has her staff or bag. Where is her stuff? He is gonna give it back to her?? Regardless, Ben stands there looking forlorn watching her leave.

While Reylo was happening, Finn and Poe must find Chewie and have to make it back to the ship.

I suspect that right here is where Poe gets his arm injury as Finn yells “POE!”. The background is very FO.

We have this footage of a Rey and Chewie hug in the Falcon which could be a reunion post-rescue, who knowsss.

After the Resistance gang is all back together maybe they go back to the Resistance HQ, or they head straight to the planet with the Death Star ruins (it may be Kef Bir, because they seem to meet Jannah there).

Here’s the DAGGER again! But this time Rey appears to be using it as a wayfinding tool, guiding her to the ruins. What ever are they searching for in the Death Star II ruins???

The quillon of the dagger also look longer than in the fight scene with Kylo. It looks like carved Ivory and the tip looks red like its blood stained. Very sinister.

We see then have seen footage of Rey taking the water-boat thing by herself, presuming leaving the others behind? Then she’s climbing the Death Star ruins solo.

Somehow she finds herself in the ol’ Throne Room and KYLO IS THERE. She no longer has her bag, and he doesn’t have his saber lit but she does.

Then for the zillionth time Rey attacks Kylo. I wonder how this fight must come to an end but then also continue outside??

It seems that Kylo follows Rey outside to the debris, his saber lit this time. These two shots look super romantic, and paint the picture of an inventible watery angsty fight kiss. Ben looks so determined to sort this shit OUT.

But then here Rey appears to Force Freeze Kylo, which is karma for when he did it to her in TFA. This demonstrates how better attuned Rey has become with her abilities. Maybe this happens mid-fight? Anyways, this is the third Reylo fight and everything comes in threes, so I think this will be the final fight they have. One that will end with a resolution that changes everything for the rest of the film. By this point Reylo has an audience, Finn and Jannah are there on the ruins also.

The Resistance foresty HQ stuff

This is the shot where Rey says “Its too dangerous” and want to go alone, but everyone wants to go with her etc. Poe doesn’t have his scarf on and his “injured” arm is hidden, but he has no gloves on. And him and Finn do still have have their bags. So this seems to be both after both Pasaana and the Death Star ruins?

This is early on in the film, (see Poe’s outfit), and it may very well be inside the new ship the Resistance crew uses going into the FO hanger.

This is the same ship you can tell by the dusty window shutters.

Also I think Rey’s training in the forest with Leia will be early on in the film.

On to PALPATINEEEE

This is that awesome sequence of Kylo arriving at ~planet/Sith Temple~ to show down with Palpatine. And its hard to tell, but I don’t think that it’s his Tie Whisper, looks just like a regular Tie Interceptor.

In this shot, we can see the trademark blue Palpatine force lighting, and also water below the floating cube/triangular structure. I think this is the same frozen water, where see the Imperial Star Destroyer’s emerging from:

I’m lovvvvinggg, the sheer scale of these statues compared to tiny Kylo/Ben, its giving me such prequel vibes.

And here he is quietly sneaky around, saber ignited. His demeanour and facial expressions in this sequence are calm/sad/determined. On the right there’s this machine thing that looks like a tooth, and it reminds me of an incubator. I wonder if Palpatine is in there or uses it as a healing pod etc. I wonder why Kylo seems to be seeking the Emperor out? And at what point of the film could this be occurring in? I cannot fathom Kylo seeking Palp’s out because he’s after more power, that doesn’t fit his character.

I’d say this place is definitely all the same location where Palp’s throne is and where Rey finds herself face-to-face with him.

Then there’s this footage of Kylo from a different trailer. Originally I was getting a “I’m in cave of a wise mystic by a fire” vibe (like Yoda in ESB). And I thought this may take place on the ashy/forest planet. But perhaps, this is Kylo coming across Palps because the flashing cyan lighting is correct for that.

Anyways, I've always has this head cannon that Kylo would find out first that Palpatine had “returned” and he’d immediately go to Rey and warn her (The TIE Pasaana scene). OR either Rey or Kylo would accidentally “awaken” something that caused Palpatine to stir. And I would love them to already be a Reylo team and actively go and try to take Palpatine down, but I also think they could follow that trope of one person going solo to defeat the villain (to keep the other person safe), but then they fail and are held captive as “bait”, and then later the second person shows up and frees them and together they take down the villain.

And speaking of Reylo, cannot wait for more Force Bond scenes. I think they’re 100% happening because why else would Daisy have her hair done but be in warmer clothes doing the clapperboard for a FO ship scene??? Force Bond offscreen reading with Adam.

(This is just a little humble brag, that I was CORRECT. Those pods being deployed from the Imperial fleet do hold Sith Troopers whom are ready to fight the Resistance on the orbaks. he he)

Now for some footage that I cannot put into context:

I reaally want to know when the reforging of Kylo’s mask happens with KoR, because it seems funny that he’s been Supreme Leader for a year without needed a mask but now for some reason he now needs it again. Very interesting.

Rey is rocking her Jedi hood and she looks heavenly. I cannot wait to see Kylo/Ben also rocking his hood as well, no helmet. (After all he has one for a reason, EEEP). Rey looks very mature and drained in this shot, and the background is green and rocky and could very well be Ahch-to but its hard to know. I definitely do not think that this shot is from the burning TIE moment because the lighting on her face would be much stronger from the huge flames that she’s standing like 5cm away from.

This is such a dramatic and beautiful shot. Who’s TIE Interceptor is this? Did Rey destroy it and why?? Does she just go around continually destroying ships in TROS haha? Also it really looks like Rey dos not have her arm wrappings in this fiery shot.

I have no idea when this green alien chase sequence happens. But Rey does not seem to be there, she’s probably busying with Ben and Palps. The Resistance is being pursued by the FO, and Klaud is somehow aboard!

Also here’s the Falcon is being chased by more First Order TIE’s, and there’s a possible sun in the background, and lots of red sharp rocky shards. Where is thiss???

Also here’s the Resistance allies flying, but I have no idea why the light is red. It looks hellish.

There’s still sooo much we don’t know about the film. We’ve only been shown a few minutes of footage in total, and there’s probably so many locations/sequences they’ve shown us nothing from. (Fingers crossed for “The World Between Worlds” Force stuff). Also we really don’t have any context for the epic stuff we’ve seen so far, there’s still a lot of mystery and questions! I am soo excited to watch this film in a few days!

Trinity In The Force or my 5th TROS rewrite

Because I am still pissed about Luke’s green lightsaber never being seen again and Rey, Finn and Ben not being a trio. It should have been given to Finn and we should have gotten to see our heroes togethher against Palpatine.

Rey, Finn and Ben should have been the trinity in the force. Rey is the light, Ben is the dark and Finn is the balance. Rey wields Leia’s lightsaber, Finn wields Luke’s lightsaber and Ben wields Anakin’s lightsaber.

During the time skip, Rey finds out Finn is force sensitive, so Leia and the force ghosts of Luke, Obi-Wan, and Yoda train Rey and Finn. WIth their training complete, they are knighted as Jedi Knights. Rey repairs Anakin’s lightsaber and Finn is given Luke’s Lightsaber. They are ready to face Kylo Ren and the KOR.

Instead of the majority of stupidity that was the Wayfinder search on Kajimi. Instead we see Finn leading a Stormtrooper Rebellion. Think of it as Luke freeing his friends from Jabba, but it’s Finn freeing his brothers and sisters. Rose with her engineering skills helps Finn send out a message to The Stormtroopers and after said speech, nearly every single First Order Trooper throws down their helmet and joins The Resistance. The first two Stormtroopers who do so are Finn’s last living squad member, Zeroes and Jannah. With Rose and Poe by his side, Finn ignites his Lightsaber and leads the revolution. The First Order is burned from the inside out. After the successful rebellion, Rose tells Finn “It was worth it, though. To tear them up, make ‘em hurt.” Finn would embrace Rose in a kiss and say “Now it’s worth it.”

Because of this, The First Order is on it's last legs. So that's where Palpatine comes in. The SIth Eternal promises to grant them super weapons from the depths of the unknown regions. Not the DS Star Destroyers cause that was stupid. Something like a mix of Star Forge and Sun Crusher from Legends. Enough to repopulate The Final Order.

Kylo goes to face The Emperor on Moraband(yeah fuck Exegol) basically same as before, but it’s implied Palpatine sent him to many dark side worlds to train. He went to Moraband, Dathomir, and finally Mustafar. After his training is complete, Palpatine gifts him Darth Vader’s Lightsaber.

Same force bond scenes between Rey and Ben, but...there are force bond scenes between Finn and Ben. Finn asking why Ben did not him in to Phasma and why he took his defection so personally. Ben would reveal that he knew he was force sensitive since Jakku and he had plans to turn Finn into a Knight Of Ren. He’s made it clear he wants both Rey and Finn to join him, but neither will give in.

Instead of the stupid Death Star Ruins, Kylo Ren and the Knights Of Ren face Rey and Finn at Vader’s castle on Mustafar(Rogue One literally gave you the perfect set up for a Lightsaber battle and you squandered it?????) and it’s actually a GOOD fight scene. It ends when Leia dies. Finn pauses because he feels it, Ben does too. and Rey stabs him per normal. Rey heals him and gives the speech that she wanted to take Ben’s hand. Rey drops her lightsaber and leaves.

And at this moment, the force ghosts of Luke and Anakin reach him. First. Luke. Luke tells him that he kept his promise, that he’d always be there for him. Luke makes amends to his nephew. Luke finally realizes the truth, he didn't kill his fellow students and shows Ben the truth through the force. The truth that he hesitated and regretted his moment of instinct and they forgive each other. And Anakin finally appears before his grandson. Ben is in disbelief and says “....Grandfather????” Anakin finally speaks to his grandson “I never wanted you to repeat my mistakes. That pull to the light you were feeling was always me. I wanted you to be better than I was, who I could have been” and showing Ben his memories and what he had to go through. His life as a slave, meeting Padme, meeting Obi-Wan, becoming a Jedi, losing his mother, Order 66, losing Padme and being saved by Luke and finally destroying Palpatine(lol but not really). And telling Ben “Let the light in. You still have a chance, no one is ever really gone“ And as a parting gift, Anakin and Luke use the force to will Han’s spirit, and finally father and son can speak for real and properly forgive each other. Their talk remains the same, especially the “Kylo Ren is dead, my son is still alive.” line and Han could speak for Leia. "Your mother and I loved you so much. We were so caught up in our work that we couldn't be there as much as we wanted to. Sending you away was our biggest mistake as parents. We are so sorry." A single tear leaving his face, Ben would attempt to say he's sorry and that he loves his parents, but Han's parting words would be "I know" with a smile before fading away. with the Skywalkers and Han talking through with him, Ben decides to renounce the dark side and Palpatine. Ben would toss Vader’s lightsaber in the lava and then pick up Anakin’s Lightsaber, finally Ben is worthy.

We would then see Ben leave Mustafar. Ben senses Rey is walking right into Palpatine hands, so he asks for help. He contacts Finn via the force. Finn has reservations, but has a feeling he needs to help him. They talk put their differences aside and both FInn and Ben fly the Falcon to Morband

Same Rey scene on Ach-To, Rey gets Leia’s lightsaber and leaves for Ach-To

Poe leads The Resistance, Hux leads the Final Order(seriously, Hux would’ve been the perfect person to be Palpatine’s military leader, you didn’t need to replace him with Pryde) Lando and Chewie bring the cavalry and Poe destroys the Sun Crusher with Hux inside.

Rey, Ben and FInn confront Palpatine together. Palpatine drains all 3 of them to revitalizes himself. The force ghosts of Qui-Gon, Yoda, Obi-Wan, Anakin, Luke and Leia are able to empower our heroes. However it would not end the with Rey, Finn and Ben just deflecting lightning, Palpatine would draw two red lightsabers and faces Ben and Rey in a epic lightsaber duel. It is easily the best lightsaber duel in the sequel trilogy with Williams brand new edition of Duel Of Fates playing in the background. It ends with Palpatine unleashing a storm of force lightning upon the trinity. All 3 in unison deflect it and send it right back at him. thus ending Palpatine for good.

Palpatine is destroyed once and for all. Since no bullshit happens, Rey, Finn and Ben are fine, they all make it out alive. Rey and Ben kiss and Finn hugs them both. Celebration on Naboo. Rey, Ben and Finn place the Skywalker lightsabers within Padme’s mausoleum and thus reuniting them all with Padme. We see all 3 of them with their new lightsabers. Rey’s Yellow Saberstaff, Ben’s White Crossguard and Finn’s Green Blastersaber. They would then join their friends in their celebration. Finn and Poe hug. Ben and Poe shake hands. Rey and Poe hug. Rose hugs Rey and Ben. Chewie and Lando hug Ben. Rey and Ben/Finn and Rey all kiss. Rey, Finn, Poe, Rose and Ben all gather for a group hug and smile together. And Anakin, Luke and Leia look in peace as they see the future is in safe hands.

A happy ending. This is what we needed. Not misery and nostalgia porn. And not a dyad, but a Trinity. The Skywalker family surviving. The Skywalker lightsaber being put to rest in the proper place and once and for all ending the Sith and bringing balance to the force.

Reaction to D23 trailer

It’s finally here, and it didn’t disappoint. Worth the hype. This won’t be articulate or in-depth...

I love how it starts with the binary sunsets. Because it has to.

Basically this will remain a story of two.Two sides, twins, a love story, master and apprentice, two. It is also interesting that they chose to show us nostalgic clips not in chronological diegetic order (that is to say in the order of the story as it is supposed to be told, so PT, then OT, then ST), but in the chronological order we have received the story as an audience. I found it kind of weird they did...But anyhow.

The clips highlight the bonds and connections between individuals: brother/sister, lovers, master/apprentice, father/son, husband/wife, mother/son, friends, to emphasize the fact that this is, above all, a saga in the truest sense of the word: the story of a family throughout generations (with the voice over doubling on that idea). The one that got straight to my heart is the one that goes right after “this is your fight”. What is the fight about? Love and family. Right. With, not respecting chronology again, that one first.

Followed by a series of hand touch: Rey/Maz, Han/Kylo, Rey/Finn. Holding out hands to a stranger or to a loved one.

The combination of “this is your fight” and the smut hut hand scene was just delightful...

Moments:

1)Pasaana

That’s what we have got the more so far in terms of scenery. This was heavily featured in the teaser from April with the Tie scene, the skiff chase, and the VF photoshoot, and the prince in the desert leaks... The whole gang seems to be here (minus Rose, where are you my love?). This looks somewhat liek a festive place (think summer festival) rather than a dreary Tusken village or whatever. More festive than Tatooine or Jakku. Pasaana system it is, with locals named Aki Aki, that wear colorful clothes and jewelry. Wonder if we could get some music there... and even some dance, rituals? something that got cut out from TLJ. Wonder if this will happen fairly early in the movie, since rumor has it that is where they could meet Jannah... One thing we could expect: a fight between the gang and the KOR, since they were featured in the same location on the VF photoshoot. And these wonderful shots from Rey and Kylo...

2)Jungle queens

Leia in the jungle, whom we have already scene hugging a crying Rey. Why is this a favorite? Because of the Endor vibe, guys!

Leia was rocking a braid around her head that is a bit like the one we got from TLJ and which is supposed to be a mourning style from her home planet of Alderaan. Mourning for Han in a landscape that is very much like the one from Endor adds on the symbolism. Especially when the planet is also infamously home to baby Ben making... Now, is this Endor or a likewise planet? We have Rey training in a similar landcsape in the trailer, and there were leaked photos of the MF on a lush planet... Oh and by the way what is this red thing on her wrist when she catches the saber boomerang style? Interesting choice of color? Is it foreshadowing? What purpose does it serve?

Forests are the real deal when it comes to secret trysts and taboo love (Guinevere/Lancelot; Tristan/Isolde). Hope we get some of that.

3)Massive battle... This is taking the epic scale to an epic level... WOW

4)Nosferatu C3PO

Raising from his grave (sort of) with evil red eyes... What is going on? Is there such a thing as droid pink eye? Should we be concerned? Is it contagious? Is he controlled by the Sith, possessed as we got from the novel Last Shot from last year, is he rebooting his data and finally accessing previous memories, is everyone just effed up? Creepy-O in teh house... Just at the moment when they tell us the story is “coming to an end”... What we know so far is that he has been featured with Chewbacca’s bowcaster... What’s going on with C3P0? Seriously?

5)Weapon of Mass Destruction... Oh boy here we go again...

6)Forget it THIS IS the Weapon of Mass destruction ...

Step on a crack break your mother’s back... Here comes my Supreme Leader

Note that from there they segue straight into the duel with Rey, which is odd given that this is not the same environment at all. He is not necessarily stomping his way into fighting her, then. Except if this is the rumored psychedelic duel that goes through time and space... The Tie seems in rough shape. Could be the other rumored crashed Tie scene, with Kylo emerging alive from a smoky and trashed Tie fighter...

7)No, no, kiss and make up, kiss and make up!!!!

It looks awesome.

8)The one that has everyone going apeshit...

She looks weird... not even like herself.... Heavily made up, borderline CGI. What I love is that she has the same crackled light as Kylo’s. I would personally go with vision on that one, dreamlike sequence or something... It is quite something to behold though, and I am psyched they went there...

SPOILERS AHEAD - TROS Review

Narrative shortcuts and plot holes.

JJ explains NOTHING. It seems like he had 5 great moments in mind but when he had to work on the in-betweens, he too the lazy road and said fuck it. Either he Deus Ex Machina-ed the shit out of the intrigues, either he explains it by adding useless characters or unexplained things into the story either he simply doesn’t bother explaining it. This goes for the lost dagger find in 1 minute after they randomly fall into quicksand and wonder in the gallerytm another minute and step upon it after it has been lost at least 10 years ago. This goes for Rey’s healing powers that are just here, it’s never explained how she got them? She didn’t finish her Jedi training with Luke, barely trained with Leia. The power’s introduction is so random as she heals a creature she doesn’t even know; she didn’t even hurt it. Palpatine resurrection is never explained, he just did it. Same for why he created Snoke in the first place. A lot of the short cuts that bugged me might be just me nitpicking, but to me, that is what differentiates a good movie from a bad movie, the attention to details and logic.

Bad characterization and useless characters.

The characters are jokes. Rey IS a Mary Sue because she can do anything without proper training even when the strongest Jedi couldn’t do shit apparently (Yoda, Mace...). Leia is pretty absent and the only moment I was looking forward to (Ben and Leia’s talk) is reduced to her simply saying his name. Jannah and Zorii are pretty cool but we barely see them, and I felt like their main purpose was to confirm that Stormpilot wasn’t a thing, especially that Poe is not gay. These two could have easily been replaced by Rose in many ways, Rose who is just an extra who clicks on things and worry about her friends for 2 hours. Poe and Finn aren’t really interesting, just side characters running around, even when JJ introduces a possible story arc he doesn’t get on with it. (Poe’s backstory or Finn’s force sensitivity). Hux doesn’t make sense, the guy was raised in a military home, he is a war genius, strategic and manipulating, but he betrays all of his believes just because he wants to see Kylo lose (????). The new characters just as the KoR and Gnrl Pryde are more than useless, just here to be cool looking and could have been easily replaced by advanced stormtroopers and Hux. UGH

Queerbaiting.

JJ said we will have an “openly gay character”, and we all thought it would be Jannah, Zorii or even Lando. Nope, it’s the two random-ass resistance girls who kiss for a split second when they win the war. This is beyond disrespectful. If you cannot ou don’t want to represent LGBTQ+ character properly then don’t. If for you this is gay representation, then fuck off. I don’t care if there is a gay character but apparently, JJ wanted to check the “Gay representation” off of his Diversity list.

Contradictory plot.

Nothing makes sense. The Skywalker “cursed” is not resolved because Ben does not kill or help kill Palpatine. The force bond that supposed to be one of the strongest ever seen only serves JJ’s shortcuts. What’s the point of the Skywalkers if they are not the ones resolving their shitty fate? Palpatine killing all the Skywalker and preventing Rey from having a family means he won? Rey taking the Skywalker name is illogical and rude. The Force is not balanced.

Missed opportunities.

Finn’s backstory and force sensitivity. Ben and Leia’s discussion and apologies. Ben facing Chewbacca over Han’s death. Rey struggling with the force and tricked by Ben to train such as he did with the lightning powers. Rey being a Solo and not a Skywalker. The force saving both of them BECAUSE THEY ARE SOULMATES. Double blade lightsaber for Rey. More drama between Poe, Rey and Finn resulting in Rey turning once again to Ben to talk about her struggles. Ben trying his best to save the Force Order from doing the worst things. Hux working against him to take Ben’s place. Palpatine’s explanation for coming back and creating Snoke. Finn and Rose or Stormpilot shit. Anakin and the other Jedis helping Ben to overcome darkness. Rey being a nobody. A harry potter like ending when Rey and Ben cross their lightsabers against Palpatine’s lightning bolts and we see the legacy characters helping them overcome the big bad...

There’s so much more but I’m done. Again, the fandom will save this half-assed and poorly written movie thanks to their metas, fanarts and fanfics. As usual, we have been tricked and now we have to save it. Thank you everyone, it’s been a pleasure to wait two years for this bullshit. Now I’m waiting forward to read the shit out of you fics cause it’s the only thing giving me hope.

Fuck KK, Fuck JJ, Fuck the cast who lied to us, Fuck Disney.

TRoS Fix-it, an angry rant

Okay, you know what, here: The movie begins with Leia’s funeral and everyone’s devastated. Because of that, the Resistance gets more support to honor the princess. They are on the run/hiding/gathering more allies.

Also because of that, Ben’s already fragile armour finally crumbles because of his grief. He’s a lousy Supreme Leader. Hux is dissatisfied. Ben senses betrayal and summons the force-sensitive KoR for support.

Meanwhile, Rey is training herself, in search for the fucking balance in the Force. She rebuilds the lightsaber on screen. Plenty of time for them to interact.

Hux manipulates the KoR to betray Ben. He’s the new Supreme Leader now. It’s six against one, so Ben barely escapes. He crashes and is in mortal danger. Uncle Luke saves his life by calling for Rey to help Ben. Rey brings Ben to the Resistance.

Everyone hates him but Rose (and Rey, obv). Ensues hilarious banter and heartbreaking moments with Chewie. Ben needs Rey to defeat the KoR and get his revenge (but secretly he wants redemption, I promise) so they make an alliance.

A) Poe and Finn are married with kids or B) Poe is the bestest best friend in the world and Finn and Rose are in love, humping like rabbits or C) Love triangle Poe/Finn/Rose, but do something with it! Fucking anything!

Finn, with the help of Poe and Rose, begins his stormtrooper revolution. Super badass! Can even include Jannah, no problem.

Ben and Rey train together and Ben helps the Resistance. They mourn Leia together. They find out that he is darkness and she is light, duh. Rey decides the Force shouldn’t be divided anymore. The goddamn Balance in the Force.

Pew pew pew, lots of it. Cool stand-offs/close calls with the KoR. Exciting chase scenes. Ambushes by the FO by Hux, whatever you want. More pew pew pew, by all means. Poe flies his X-Wing. All great, neatly rendered battles.

The Resistance is gaining support because of Leia and Luke, put Lando in it, fine. Include maybe Ben and Ghost Luke forgiving each other now that they’re even (?). BTW, Uncle Luke, Ben didn’t kill your students, asshole.

A) Insert the kinkiest, horniest, most angsty Reylo sex for the R-Rated version or B) Don’t include romantic Reylo at all or C) Have them kiss and be idiots about it, but show them evolving their relationship by trusting each other with their lives.

Same for the others, they become friends (ish). Poe v Ben Solo’s sass, can you imagine?

Rey Nobody is the most badass, coolest Jedi ever and she offers a place for the KoR at her New Order if they surrender because she doesn’t want to kill them, she wants balance and peace (TLJ, remember?) and belonging (TFA, remember?). So does Ben, but he’ll never admit it.

A)They don’t accept, cool lightsaber battle until some of them turn and others don’t or B)Some of them do and that creates a division among them. C)Ben and Rey have to defend themselves and are devastated that they have to kill them or

D) Rey faces them alone and turns them while Ben is doing something else to help or E)They do it together and they turn, whatever.

Finn’s stormtroopers take the FO down, and Hux, in a desperate, final attempt to win, tries to kill/mass destroy with a dreadnought/star destroyer the stormtroopers/the newly turned KoR/the Resistance, and Ben tries to stop him with his power that freezes the shot (TFA, remember?).

A selfless act towards strangers, worthy of redemption. But it’s too much and Rey steps in, they do it together. Ben almost dies from exertion, but Rey and Leia all the other fucking force-ghosts Jedi show up to not let him die.

A)Reylo kiss and I love yous and Ben smiles or B)Looking into each other’s eyes longingly and Ben smiles or C)Hugs and tears of joy and Ben smiles.

They all celebrate, insert weird Ewok music here if you want. They all hug each other, but not Ben. Chewie hugs Ben and pets his hair like he did with Han (ROTJ, remember?) haha and sweet.

They look to the horizon and see CGI Leia and Luke. Ben kneels in front of his CGI mother, she forgives him. Luke is proud of Rey, Rey kinda likes him now. The Force is balanced. The end.

No McGuffin, No Palpatine, No Rey Palpatine, No weird Leia, Balance, Forgiveness, Redemption, Character Arcs, Pay-off from other movies and fucking HOPE.

This is the WORST script ever and I’m the WORST writer in the world. And this is better than the shit we got.

How would you have written this trilogy differently? Because I know yours would be better than how it ended up.

Honestly, TROS would’ve been fine with a little more breathing room instead of jumping from scene to scene at a breakneck pace and the removal of pointless twists that don’t add anything like Hux being a spy or Rey Palpatine, or Finn having something to say to Rey that never gets said, or Poe having a shady past that doesn’t affect anything in the present. It was badly cobbled together, but the basic outline of the quest that drives most of the story is fine. Well, except for the fact that Kylo already knows the way to Palpatine and Rey knows he knows and wants her there but still goes out of her way to get the MacGuffin to lead her there without his help. Like, what difference does it make if she goes with him or not? Even if they have different plans for what happens there, why do they need to travel separately? That wasn’t a problem for Luke when Vader brought him to the Emperor to be turned or when Kylo brought Rey to Snoke to usurp him. She could just be like, “Thanks for the ride bae, but I’m still not ruling the galaxy with you”.

So I guess what I’d do instead of revealing Palpatine in the opening text crawl is I’d have Rey and Kylo racing against each other to get the MacGuffins that will lead them to Palpatine for the majority of the film.

I’d start with Kylo and the FO on some random planet fighting what are revealed to be Sith cultists, whom Kylo wants the galaxy rid of as much as the Jedi. Kylo learns from them that Palps may still be alive, but can only find a cryptic hint that will lead him to him.

The information leaks to the Resistance and begins Rey’s quest to try and beat Kylo to the MacGuffin dagger. Lando and Jannah appear at the same time in the desert and Jannah introduces herself to Finn as a fellow ex-stormtrooper turned Resistance fighter. Midway through the movie they get to talking and realize they were taken from the same planet, the same town, and the same parents. They’re siblings. Twins even.

There is no snake healing scene because the point of that was to show that Rey had that ability before she used it on Ben to foreshadow his use of it on her. In my script, it ends with Rey healing Kylo after witnessing him do it, in keeping with the tradition of her leaning new abilities from him.

Instead of the pointless fake-out Chewie death in the desert Kylo just reveals that he’s the one who leaked the intel about Palp’s return and tries to convince Rey to team up with him to track him down. Rey says “no”, so Kylo takes the dagger for himself. Rey doesn’t want Kylo to have the dagger so he can track Palpatine down, so she goes alone to retrieve it while the others wipe 3P0′s memory so he can transcribe it when Rey brings it back.

Instead of revealing that Palps is her grandfather, Kylo reveals that Rey accidentally killed her parents by pulling their ship out of the sky when they tried to leave.

Kylo has already transcribed the dagger, so he knows the next MacGuffin is on the Death Star and the Falcon’s speed only gives her a little headstart. Hence Rey’s urgency to get in and get the MacGuffin before he does.

Rey sees a vision of her Dark self, Kylo takes the MacGuffin for himself without destroying it, but still insisting that they go together. They fight, Rey falls and gets injured and Kylo heals her. Leia doesn’t interfere. They talk for a bit and Kylo tries to convince Rey that regardless of whether she wants to rule the galaxy together or not they both want Palpatine dead because he’s a bad dude and a danger to everyone so they really should be working together.

Not wanting to have to kill Kylo should he become Palpatine’s puppet or the new Emperor, and afraid she’ll turn to the Dark Side if she tries to confront Palpatine herself without Ben, Rey decides to run away to Ahch-To and exile herself, leaving the MacGuffin with Ben to do whatever he wants with it.

But Kylo ends up not leaving with his MacGuffin until after Luke convinces Rey to take off in his X-Wing with the other MacGuffin because he’s busy having an existential crisis with his dad.

Once that’s over, he calls an Uber to pick him up and orders the FO to go ahead of him to battle Palps alongside the Resistance. But Hux has other plans. While Kylo sees Palpatine and his forces as too dangerous and evil to exist, Hux sees an opportunity to increase the FO’s military might and meets with Palps to form an alliance. Hux’s mutiny divides the FO and those loyal to Kylo are betrayed and killed by their own fellow soldiers and officers who proceed to trade in their old arsenal for Palpatine’s, while a handful of survivors join the Resistance as ordered by Kylo. Both sides are distrustful of one another, but Finn and Jannah convince the Resistance and the Kylo-loyal stormtroopers and officers to unite against a common enemy.

Rey arrives thinking Ben is in need of rescue, but Palps is actually using visions of Ben in mortal or spiritual peril to lure Rey into a trap.

Instead of trying to convince Rey to kill him so he can posses her, Palps just drains her. He doesn’t need Kylo to be present for that. Instead of Kylo’s arrival being the thing that allows Palps to rejuvenate himself, it multiplies Rey’s strength, allowing her to break free of Palps’s soul-sucking.

Rey and Kylo duke it out with him and the KoR.

Kylo puts himself between Palps and Rey to save her, then deals the final blow by stabbing Palps through the back, impaling himself in the process. Rey uses the force to heal Kylo. Palpatine’s forces along with Hux and his allegiant FO traitors go down. Everyone cheers. Rey and Kylo stumble out of the cave together and everyone quiets down to hear what their orders are now that Palpatine is out of the way. Kylo says it’s time to talk peace.

Cut to a ceremony celebrating the signing of a peace treaty. Leia is alive and well, smiling from the crowd like she was at the end of TFA. The treaty will see the FO reorganized into a democracy with Kylo set to step down from his role as Supreme Leader upon the election of a new Galactic President. In the mean time, there are reparations to be made to make up for all the damage done by Snoke and Palpatine. Rey and Kylo volunteer for a mission together to deliver supplies to Jakku to make it less of a shithole. They fly away in the Falcon into a binary sunrise and kiss. Roll credits.

i decided to take notes while i watched so here ya go

*spoilers ahead*

opening sequence is great, it really sets up the film, we don't know what's in store but they give us some ideas. not sure i loved seeing palpatine or even palps being alive, would have been cooler if he was some kind of poltergeist-y sith demon, also, kylo was on mustafar? we ain't gonna talk about that? ok

skipping to rey and leia, first, i hate the leia scenes, they seem creepy and overdone and not genuine, anyway, why didn't rose go with the trio to pasana? why don't we see more of rose? why am i screaming? aaaaand more creepy leia speaking vaguely to rey

now KOR and kylo fixing his helmet *eyeroll* and now the first order finding out about a SPY!!!!! how utterly stupid and it's literally a plot line from a fANFIC!!!! WHY

the trio on pasana, rey looking at the children longingly always kills me, bc she ends up alone without ben, when the only thing she wanted was a family, this is BAD LUV!!!! "i don't have one yet (a family), i'm just rey," that's what she should have said

K so I said I might write a post about what I wanted from ep 9 and then I ended up doing it. So this is essentially a summary of the movie I would’ve made if someone gave me that ability. It’s not fully fleshed out, but I literally could not stop myself from typing it out once I starting piecing it together lmao

Even though this is my own creation, I still consider this a spoilery post SO WARNING FOR RISE OF SKYWALKER SPOILERS RIGHT HERE

I still think the best thing to do with ep 9 would be to centre it on the FO falling apart instead of ‘oh no daddy palps is back :o’. Truth be told, I’d rewrite TLJ too if I could, but I’m going to try to work within its constraints on this as well as keep some tros stuff intact for the sake of trying to work with it. So here’s the basic plot of what I would’ve liked to see:

Kylo undermining and removing authority from Hux while he focuses on Force stuff. He’s still looking for secrets and holocrons, but there’s no palpatine

Meanwhile the Resistance is working on building up their forces and helping the little people, plus trying to get info to take down the FO

The focus of the Resistance side is them trying to get the strength to face the FO and working together and all that good stuff. Focus more on the small acts of goodness in the galaxy that bring people together and end up with those they help joining the Resistance. That’s where they get their strength

Rey’s story would also be mostly about mastering the Force (and Leia still helps to train her) and the love and family she’s found among the Resistance. She’s still stupidly powerful though. I’d love to make her a Skywalker, but hell, it’d even work if she remained a nobody. TLJ was her crucible; she knows who she is now. She doesn’t need anyone else to tell or write her story for her

Also I really want her to go grey jedi. So maybe she realizes what Luke really meant: it was time for the jedi not truly to end, but to change. To embrace emotion without losing themselves to it. To realize that the only true way to achieve balance is not by staying light in order to defeat the dark, but instead learning to master both and keeping the balance within herself. That way, when the darkness is defeated, it won’t need to rise again: true balance. This would be her growth in the story, to learn how to embrace true balance in the Force

Also Finn’s story is still going to focus on the Stormtroopers (and Jannah can 100% still be there). So he finds Jannah and her team in Act 1, and then in Act 2 they unearth some secrets as to how Stormtroopers are brainwashed. Conditioning can’t be broken out of by will alone; Finn was Force sensitive. But something else happened with Jannah and her company. An idea is born: could they recreate that on a large scale and free them all? That’d be a huge blow to the FO and it would save all those troopers who never had a choice in what to be

Poe’s focus would still be on becoming the leader they need him to be, with lots of fun trio moments. So his wouldn’t actually change that much, but nothing about him being a drug dealer. I’m sure Zori could still be worked in but tbh I didn’t feel she added much to the plot

Rose is there a lot more too and comes along on all their adventures, happy to liberate anyone they can. She’s always been in it for the little people and that’s where she shines

Also Kylo is even more erratic, even more lost. He feels torn apart all over again. He’s not doing well as SL; he thought it would make things clearer, but it didn’t. He’s unstable and feral, focusing on all the wrong things and making bad choices because of it

Near the end of Act 1 of the movie, Hux betrays Kylo in a near deadly fashion, but Kylo manages to escape by the skin of his teeth

The Resistance gets word of a civil war within the FO. It;s Hux’s fleet (the red troopers + newer FO officers) vs Kylo’s fleet (mostly the older imperials who remember Vader + the KOR – you can keep Pryde here too if you want). This is their chance. They can take advantage of the chaos

While Kylo recovers from Hux’s attack, he starts having doubts again. Nothing has felt right since he became SL but what other choice does he have? He can’t go back, can he? He’s not supposed to want to. And even if he did, he’s too far gone to ever be welcomed, even by his own mother. So he continues fighting against Hux, more harried and haunted than ever

This situation degrades quickly. Both sides are getting hits in, but Hux is winning. Worse yet: it’s spilling over and doing collateral damage. Places controlled by the FO are being exploited, even worse atrocities being committed against them in this rapid arms race to superiority

Hell, maybe Hux’s fleet still has those planet-destroying canons like Palps’ fleet cause why not, everyone seems to think SW needs a superweapon in it. Anyway

There’d be more development on the heroes’ side as I detailed above here. Rey helping people and learning to be grey. Finn discovering the secrets of the Stormtrooper program. Poe becoming a leader. Rose comes with them on their journeys. Leia is heard rather than seen for the most part; she’s surviving this time around, but her presence is felt through her messages and dialogue snippets rather than physically being in the scenes. Some of the footage could be used, especially her hug with Rey, but I’d use much less of it

The Resistance knows they have to hurry. Do they have enough people? They have no idea, but they’re gonna try anyway. They have to. And you can still have Lando do basically the same thing; show up, be cool, then go get some more people

I’d like to do more with the KOR too, but tbh I’m not sure how other than just some scenes of them and Kylo doing Ren Stuff (whatever that may be). But there’d definitely be something

Near the end of Act 2, there’s a particularly brutal fight. I’d want Kylo and the KOR on the ground here, doing their shit. It feels kinda cheap to have him almost die again but tros also had 2 death fake outs for Kylo before the actual death so fuck it lmao. He thinks he’s going to win (maybe Hux is even there? Or maybe Phasma is revived? Or even just some fancy trooper akin to FN-2199 or something. Maybe it’s even Force-nullifying tech), but then the last minute he gets his shit wrecked

He’s dying. He reaches out with the Force, violently, affecting everyone. Rey hears it through the shattered bond. Finn even hears it, though faintly. It hits Leia hardest of all

Meanwhile, Kylo sees the ghost of Anakin instead of a vision of Han. Anakin, who knows better than anyone what it is to turn to the dark, but also what it is to turn away from it. The scene would still play out similarly, but not mirror the past scene with Han so much

(Look, I know a lot of people don’t like bendemption, but I think that redemption is always possible as long as it’s written well. And that applies to pretty much any character. TROS just needed more time to develop it, which I am attempting to do here by showing Kylo’s instability at the beginning)

Anakin manages to heal Kylo enough to bring him back from the brink of death, but not fully. I don’t think I want Kylo to toss away his lightsaber, but he still could. Regardless, there’s some sort of symbolic gesture to prove he’s changed his mind

A ship arrives: it’s the Resistance. Finn and Poe are cautious, but Rey doesn’t fear him. She confronts him about this sudden change of heart, but she can feel his sincerity. So she reassures Finn and Poe and they bring him along, though no one is really happy about it. They fix him up

With Kylo’s fleet all but destroyed, Hux is ready to take out the Resistance and everyone who sympathizes. Now perhaps we have a planet the trio had previously visited get destroyed. There’s still an ultimatum from the FO to obey or die. It’s a crackdown. A final act to ensure domination of the galaxy. Hell, you can even still call it the Final Order if you want to

The Resistance now strikes. Lando’s getting more back up, if he can, but they take who they’ve got. Kylo is there and there’s a lot of mistrust (could be played for humour too) but not enough time to get into it. They need to do this or too many will die. If he tries anything, Rey will strike him down and she tells him so. She’s done listening to his attempts to get under her skin

This Kylo is also definitely more Ben (I’m mixed on whether he should just go back to his old name or not so I’m keeping him Kylo for the sake of this summary). There’s guilt, though. A lot of it. You can see it on his face and in what he says. But helping to fix this will be a start. His crimes aren’t forgotten; he wants to make up for them however he can

Also Finnrey happens. They kiss before the fight this time and it’s very cute and romantic

So basically the end fight is Resistance fleet vs FO fleet. Poe is leading the charge. Meanwhile, Finn, Jannah, Rose and company sneak on to try to end FO conditioning. Rey and Kylo also sneak on; they’re going for Hux and the elite troops he uses as guards

Hux is going to have to have Force-nullifying tech of some sort (which I think is extremely underused in the SW universe as a whole btw). But he underestimates what Rey (powerful as fuck) and Kylo (Skywalker) are capable of

I’m not 100% sure how this fight plays out but I think I want Rey and Kylo to take out Hux’s elite troops without being able to use the Force. It’d be a fun struggle to watch and also make the fight much more visceral and difficult for them. But they both know how to fight, so they win

On the other side, Finn, Jannah, and Rose manage to do whatever to free the Stormtroopers from mind control (I’m not sure exactly how this would happen, but it’s star wars, it doesn’t need to make much sense). We get the first stage of a full trooper rebellion. They go after the officers immediately

Outside, Poe is struggling, just like in tros. They might lose this. Even if the landing party wins, there’s just too many of them. Cue Lando bringing a big fleet to help and giving us an epic space battle

Back inside: something exciting happens and it turns into a struggle between Hux’s tech and their combined Force powers. This is how I think it should go:

Kylo gives Rey his Force powers, which knocks him unconscious. Rey now has the power to break through on her own. It shouldn’t be possible. She sends out a concussive blast that knocks Hux back. The ideal here would be Hux being captured and taken in alive to be tried for war crimes, but I know that’s asking too much lmao so

If I can’t have definitively alive Hux: Rey approaches him but the ship makes a buckling noise; her Force powers compromised the structural integrity. Debris falls, obscuring Hux (and probably implying it killed him), and she knows it’s time to run. Kylo also comes to around this moment and follows

(And for real, I’m also okay with Hux dying for sure here, because at least he got to have his day first, but this is fantasy land lmao so I’m just not gonna have it happen as far as that goes)

Finn, Jannah, and Rose lead the stormtroopers onto transports as the ship starts falling apart. Rey and Kylo (and Hux, if I got my way) show up and make it in too. They take off and make it out just as the Finalizer crumples. Everyone lives! (Plus Hux is plausibly still alive even if I can’t have him definitely alive sdkfsdkl)

They call for the fleet to stop; the Stormtroopers on every destroyer are rising up, freed from their shackles. Shot of FO officers tied up and captured as the Stormtroopers, without their helmets, celebrate

A sidenote: I can’t decide whether I want Kylo to have lost his Force powers permanently by giving them to Rey or for him to get them back. I think losing them would be a good act of sacrificial penance, but at the same time, I’m not sure if that’s a thing so lmao. I’m open to possibilities here

End bit would still be a celebration. Rey and Finn and Poe still hug. The Stormtroopers are happy. We can still have that moment with Lando and Jannah; the implication of trying to find where every one of the troopers came from. The FO officers have been imprisoned. Everything is right in the galaxy again

Now there’s one more scene with Kylo: he stands in front of a door, looking pensive, squeezing and unsqueezing his hands into fists. The shot moves to his back and the door opens. You can’t see what’s inside but you hear: “Ben?” followed by a pause, and then a small, broken “Mom.”. He steps inside and starts to fall to his knees. End scene

Now, as a last scene, we could still do Rey having a funeral for Luke on Tatooine and keep the ending shot basically the same except Leia and her saber aren’t there because Leia is alive. Rey could still decide to be a Skywalker if she’s a nobody. The shot of two suns. The End.
