Kitsune Tails has a release date! August 1st.

(If you've not seen the table before, the short description I've seen is "sapphic Super Mario 3". It looks great and I can't wait to play it!

What are your Thoughts about Tails potentially being a kitsune and living for hundreds or even thousands of years longer than most of his friends?

I have a lot of thoughts about this actually

As an au? I adore it! Tbf I adore any kind of aus but I think the idea of tails living for hundreds of years and all that kinda stuff is so sick, I also love the idea of people hunting him down for magic and stuff and I just think the whole au is so fun man.

Though I gotta say I do like the idea of tails loosing his immortality after a while and just living a normal life with his friends. I also really like to make people protective of him in kitsune aus, like immortal being who’s just a little kid that’s been hunted all his life it makes me soft to make people want to protect and care for him

So yeah as an au I think it’s sick I love it and there’s so much angst and fluff potential’s

However I have seen some people put it forward as an actual theory and I’ll be honest I kinda hate it as a theory for canon.

Tails whole thing is about how he was isolated and bullied and harassed because he was born a little differently with something that without the people he was around being shitty people it wouldn’t have mattered in the slightest

Tails is left with insecurity after insecurity that he has to come over is apart of his character and slowly tails is learning that he’s worth more. But I also think a big part of his character is growing over the thought that his entire being is tied to his tails, sure he uses them but they don’t define his being. He has things other than his tails.

And honestly I think the idea that tails is a kitsune kinda wreaks all that

Because if he’s a kitsune it just kinda turns it to ‘oh I was actually super special all along!’ And that just feels icky to me. I think the theory that he’s a kitsune takes away a lot of what makes him him Because instead of being someone that hated a part of himself despite what he thought were really something special and it didn’t matter what other people thought because the people who mattered didn’t care. instead It just turns him into ‘I’m actually super special and my whole life now revolves around the fact I’m immortal and you can see it though my tails and stuff’ ya know?

I don’t know if I explained that right

Anyway tldr; as an au it’s good and as a theory I really don’t like it

Alright, while watching the latest trailer of Sonic Prime I noticed something.

First, the tails of that alternate cyberpunk verse Tails. We thought he only had one but,

Now for the second thing, remember that concept art of Tails having nine tails in the alternative verse? Like a kitsune?

Well,

If you count his natural ones plus those spider claws, it makes nine! He technically still got nine tails!

(Not to mention that he looks absolutely feral and unhinged and not one to mess with.)

I thought about how in Sonic Generations Modern Tails is [Slightly?] taller than Classic Sonic, then saw a post by @/dunkinbublin and felt like making a piece on Tails being taller when older. I also made Tails a kitsune, since I saw that apparently baby kitsune only have 2 tails, who you know who else has 2 tails? Tails, thus They have 9 tails and finally, I felt like trying out digital water painting, inspired by @/studioboner s actually water paintings, which are like, just *chefs kiss*

A little bit of news to share as well: these past few months I've been pushing really hard to get everything we needed ready for Kitsune Tails, one of my other projects. We have a release date in mind, but for now we've made a playable demo available for Steam's Next Fest. just found out if a kitsune reaches 1000 years old its fur will turn golden and is called a Tenko or Sky/Celestial fox, which is the most powerful a kitsune can get i think.

I wonder if anyone in the sonic universe (who knows about kitsunes) just ever looks at tails and just thinks tails is like ungodly powerful because "oh his fur is gold/yellow and he only has 2 tails? im out"

Steam Next Fest has properly started, so you got this week and the weekend after to try the Kitsune Tails demo! I did a lot of work on this game, a lot of people have tried it so far and said they liked it. If you haven't had a moment to try it yet, now's your chance, after this week you'll have to wait til August for the full release!

I've been thinking about the kitsune Tails theory/headcanon and it's actually devastating, my goodness.

He's going to out-live all his friends. He's thing to out-live Sonic. All he'll have for company in the future is Shadow. And when they eventually find Silver, Tails will have to cope with the fact he's going to watch his entire life play out.

But then there's the topic of him being a kitsune at all! When does he find out and how? Is the extra tail just an early indicator of what he is or has he already lived a hundred years and doesn't remember? Or do kitsune gain an extra tail every time they die, meaning Tails had already died once and it must've been when he was super young?

So many possibilities. This theory is really cool and I love it.
