you know, you have to respect Vampire Survivors, because no one is committing to the bit like that game is. it's been a long running joke that you do not, at any point, actually fight a vampire in Vampire Survivors, but then along comes the Castlevania DLC and you're like. "well the bit was fun while it lasted, but like. this is Castlevania. they're inevitably going to break the bit here. it'll be understandable because it's fucking Castlevania, if a bit of a shame, but there is NO WAY anyone would pass up the chance to fight Dracula"

then when you actually play the DLC, when you look through the unlocks section, there's a little thing about how you'll get something for "surviving the showdown in the throne room as Richter Belmont." hmmmm. wonder what that could be? so you play through the DLC, unlock the characters, and when you go to the throne room on the new Castlevania map as Richter Belmont...sure enough, there's the fucker himself. Dracula. and for a brief, fleeting moment, you think that you are actually going to fight a vampire in Vampire Survivors.

and then Dracula goes "you know what. fuck this actually. fuck you, Richter Belmont; I'm joining your party, you stupid cunt. deal with it" and then does just that without you having to do anything. and you can't even be mad that you just got blatantly bait-and-switched because A.) funny as fuck, honestly, B.) you just unlocked the ability to play as Dracula holy fuck, and C.) the actual boss fight that ensues shortly after Dracula fucks off more than makes up for the lack of fighting Dracula himself. beautiful. absolute perfection

Some Vampire Survivors' characters!

Vampire Survivors is such an odd fucking anomaly when you really stop and think about it. It suddenly appeared as this rip-off Castlevania reverse bullet hell that was made by a people who design gambling machines. It exploded and not only spawned an entire new genre that has since continued to grow, but it gained some absolutely baffling pull.

Instead of more Castlevania they just started adding in cameos for the DLC and chose goddamned Among Us, stapling it to a game about fighting vampires with no explanation for how anything connected. Then they made a deal with Konami and threw in Contra, which also had no really to be there aside from giving you the ability to kill monsters will heat seeking missiles and machine guns.

Recently, in a twist that would make David Lynch blush with how well it forces a series to come to terms with a twisted mockery, they added actual Castlevania, completing a post-ironic metaphorical circuit.

There's supposedly a netflix show being made which I cannot even begin to imagine what it might be like. There's a motherfucking cart racing mode. You never actually ever fight a real vampire at any point in game.
