while scisaac is not normally my go-to ship (its actually stackson) @theslowestpoke 's 'Kinstugi' work actually makes me go feral with their characterisation of isaac and stiles.

i also adore the title of kinstugi especially in regards to the character isaac because hes one of the only characters that i think may see the bite as a gift truly, giving him a sense of power and control when he was previously powerless in an abusive household. and because hes a beta werewolf that manifests in his golden eyes. gold is literally a sign to isaac that he has independence .

Ive been reading my favorite Phantom of the Opera fanfics, and KINTSUGI by Soignante is definitely one of them. Its also very hard to read it cause of all of the trauma, abuse and horrible human beings in general (and its not Erik). But its also so amazingly written...Soignante is really a master in her craft. I miss her work.

I didn't know Katara also had silver marks on the Kintsugi AU. How did you come up with that idea? Is it an in-universe cultural thing? If it is, is it exactly the same as Zuko's or does the Water Tribe have their own beliefs around it?

Hello, and thanks for asking!

Initially, Kintsugi was a strictly Fire Nation tradition. Something to hold over the rest of the nations, and deepen their own belief of cultural superiority. Zuko hiding his scars played into that idea, since having gold inlaid in your body is a clear sign of Fire Nation blood—furthermore, High Fire Nation blood.

That being said, one lovely anon gave the suggestion that perhaps the other nations also have their own kinds of Kintsugi, and I fell in love with the idea. @ican-fixitbooks went even deeper into the particular philosophies of each nation regarding Kintsugi. I'll be using some quotes from them—watch for the italics.

It was during said brainstorming session that I thought of Katara having a silver Kintsugi scar, and how could it be used to enhance the themes of ATLA, Katara's arc, and this AU as a whole.

But a little background is necessary, I believe.

Kintsugi is a tradition practiced worldwide, with minor differences in philosophy/technique according to each nation.

The Earth Kingdom seal their scars with a substance that resembles bronze, as the mentality of breaking yourself down to build yourself back up better than you were is very central to their culture. It is used as a way to celebrate one's victories, made all the better if damage was taken to achieve it.

The elite have rather different views on this practice. They believe themselves to be above such things. That which is broken must be hidden away, which has interesting connotations when thinking about a certain blind earthbender.

The Air Nomad philosophy leans towards a naturalist approach. Anything natural doesn't need to be "improved" in their eyes. If a scar is there, it is there. Let it be there as a part of you, no different than any other, no need to be "made better", but in fact better to just "be".

Kintsugi is a cultural practice meant to celebrate making something beautiful out of something broken, arguably even making it better than it was. During Sozin's reign and forward, Kintsugi became a way to show the Fire Nation's superiority. Especially as that is essentially their philosophy for war: "Breaking the rest of the world so it can be reforged in fire, made a better, more perfect place."

As for the Water Tribes, there's the healing factor to take into account. The Northern Water Tribe isolated itself from the rest of the world once the war began, so they hold tight to their traditions and beliefs. If something is not broken, then why attempt to fix it? Kintsugi is scoffed at in the North—it is a foreign practice, one that is not necessary when all your wounds can be healed with bending.

However, the Southern Water Tribe has been exposed to the world. They have seen war. They have lived through it. They have suffered, but they are also free because of it, if only in spirit. The South is strong and proud and bold, so it comes as no surprise that silver Kintsugi becomes the mark of their warriors, their hunters, their people.

Katara was wounded during the last Southern Raid. After losing Kya in such a terrible way, Hakoda made sure to seal Katara's wound with the silver of their warriors, so that she would always remember that despite having been broken, she is still strong, beautiful, and proud.

The scar itself is long and thin, going from her right shoulder up to her jaw. It loosely resembles lightning.

And despite how she got it, despite all the things she lost on that day, despite it being a constant reminder of her mother's death—Katara loves her scar.

It grounds her. It pushes her forward. You are a warrior, it tells her. You are a survivor.

When Katara arrives at the North, her scar becomes yet another thing the Northerners hold against her. They use it to demean her, just as they do her gender and out-spoken personality.

The North believes a lot of things that Katara always considered natural to be a problem. What does it matter that she is a woman? What is wrong about being passionate? Why should having a scar mean she's broken?

This scar is something they cannot touch. The Northerners try to use it to demean her. To make her small. Self-conscious. Worthless.

They're scoffing at her mother's death.

Her strength.

Her beauty.

Her pride.

Her story.

And she will not allow it.

Ok, so the idea basically is; Tim has been neglecting himself and his health and does not seek help when he is injured, however every time he is injured and unconscious he is healed by a mysterious benefactor, who not only gives first-class care to his injuries, but also who gives him gifts of gold.

In the end he realizes that this person is treating him like a piece of Kintsugi art, trying to repair the broken soul of him with gold.

Buuut, the idea is that the one who has been doing this behind the scenes is Coo! Bernard, so in general, the fic I'm writing is a slow seduction fic to the dark side for Tim, from a creepy, lovesick Bernard hehehe

All the Small Things Macaque POV. Takes place during S5 E1 if the episode had lasted longer, mostly fluff and island monkeys.

Kintsugi Wukong POV. Bittersweet Shadowpeach with a hopeful ending, written post S4 but emotionally works post S5 too. There was little use asking what specific memory was bothering Macaque. One, it was obvious, and two, it didn’t matter. Every thread that tied them together always looped back to encompass it all.

Break the Cycle Wukong POV. Post S4, Wukong and Macaque have a romantically charged fight while Wukong stays at Macaque's place. Rated T.

(NEW!) Intimidation Check: Natural 1 Wukong POV. Macaque gets the idea to try roleplaying in bed, but his theatrics combined with Wukong's personality means they don't get anywhere. Comedy fic.

(NEW!) Sun Poisoning Macaque POV. Technically a SixNine (Macaque/Xiangliu) fic with Shadowpeach angst too.

Freenoodles:

Infinite Noodle Glitch Tang POV. Just as it sounds, Tang hatches a plan to get as many noodles as possible. Established relationship.

Complimentary Colors Red Son POV. Apollo dealt me a glancing hit with the dodgeball: Red Son calls Mei over after a mysterious fireproof dog breaks into his house to help handle it. Featuring dog sitting shenanigans and first kisses, this fic was the first LMK fic I ever wrote and has art by @imminent-danger-came

Down Bad Red Son POV. MK runs into Red Son at the mall and catches him buying a green dragon plushie- for himself? Red Son gets the courage up to confess his feelings to Mei- but there's a twist.

just a quick text post explaining the purpose of my blog here going forward.

i dont have any plans to contribute to the bnha/mha fandom anymore. it came about in a time of my life where i latched on to some characters/themes in it for the purposes of escapism from a very bad situation. now I have associated these characters with a time of my life that was extremely painful, and also, over. trying to create content for bnha just isn't the same anymore and doesn't do great things for my headspace. this is partially why i ghosted my blog because i felt kinda bad of becoming known for a specific fandom and then not doing it anymore.

but people are still welcome to commission me for it as the feeling is different when i know i am doing it for money or to make someone happy :>

i have commitments to my patrons to finish some of my fics (specifically Kintsugi, and maybe Ashes.) I know a lot of my followers probably still like bnha or would like to see me finish these stories. it is my goal to do so, but after that I probably won't have much else to show you guys BNHA wise.

i'm going to try to pivot to my primary interests: my personal project Animus, DND illustrations, and my One True Love, TES Morrowind.

The 50th wedding anniversary is obviously a huge milestone, usually called “golden anniversary”, and GOLD is the main theme of this celebration! 

Gold is malleable and flexible, like the compromises made between a long-term married pair in order to make it to this milestone year.

Then, it is resilient, impervious to heat and acid, and acts as a reflection of the eternal endurance of a long-term union.

Last but not least, its rarity and luxurious nature is an ideal reflection of the precious nature of a long-term marriage.

Gold is not just a symbol of money or luxury, but represents a strong and deep relationship, showing how much the two value each other beyond just material things. Keeping this in mind, this might help you as an underlying prompt or starting point for the theme of your creation for this event! 

Some of the daily prompts are based on Gold: memories, special objects, themes, songs, plus a classic romantic fic trope each day. As always, you don't have to follow the prompts, feel free to let your imagination fly!

Just wanted to hop in and say I devoured your Kintsugi fic this afternoon and it's SOOOO GOOOOOD just UGH the slowly unfolding story behind Caleb's last months, the slow regaining of memories and the unfolding of who they/he are, the way you describe a person as a vessel; first as a cup then a bowl then a bucket and an ocean just UGH IT'S SO GOOD! I love the gradual reuniting and then FRUMPKIN and gosh Fjord made me so sad and Jester's reaction to when Caleb asked if she thought Artagan meant that Fjord was coming home. It's so good, it's so so good. I can't wait to see what happens next <3

I was absolutely inspired by this beautiful Silco fanart by @spoczkot. Kintsugi—repairing broken pottery with gold—is such an incredible concept that I couldn't help but think of when I saw the shiny gold ink used for this art. Naturally, it made me think of Silco and his scars. That spiraled into this one-shot.
