This may be controversial, but I do technically kin for fun, specifically fiction kin, but it is very integral to my identity despite that.

I'm a polyfragmented system with like a bagillion introject fragments.

So what that means, is that I am a system (of unintegrated parts) with a low splitting tolerance (i get new dissociated parts in my brain very easily), and every time I interact with a new medium and I feel deeply connected to the characters, I might develop an introject. But those introjects are not fully formed alters, and therefore don't front besides interacting with their purpose or specific medium.

So it's like,, it's really just a game of "is this a kin or is this an introject", I can sometimes tell, but kins are usually like "I have a reason for connecting to this" and introjects are a deeply like "I don't have a super specific reason other than feeling connected to this".

So it's like..... all of us alters decided, y'know what, I don't want an existential crisis every time I try to figure out what's a kin or not, and we decided to all kin for fun, like we were doing before we discovered our system.

So besides otherkin, fiction-kin is its own beast. Where I'm like, "I might as well" when it comes to it. Maybe if I was a singlet I'd take kinning more seriously, but it's impossible to figure out what's a kin and what's not. So most of my introjects are just what we deeply, deeply kinned so much so they became their own part of me. It's russian roulette in my brain.

Definition ::

Multiself is an umbrella term for any singlet/singlet adjacent being that experiences multiple identities/selves. The term also applies to individual sysmates that share the experience, provided the sysmate/s in question identify as multiself independently from the rest of the collective.

Mulitself beings may or may not "switch" between selves, though multiself is explicitly separate from the plurality spectrum and does not describe multiple consciousnesses/distinct people. However it's important to note that SOME parasian/plurallet experiences may fall under the multiself umbrella

• You can identify as both transplural/transmedian and multiself at the same time, in the same way that you can identify as a both a boy and a girl at the same time. Trans identity is very complex, and often paradoxical in nature

• Generally switches are amnesia free and voluntary, but this is definitely more of a guideline than a hard and fast rule. (I myself have light amnesia, and experience "switches" more as kinshifts rather than a conscious choice.)

• Multiself is inherently tied to transid, in the sense that selves have their own distinct sets of transids. Though notably, the amount in which the selves differentiate depends on the individual. On one end of the spectrum, one's selves may be extremely different in name, appearance, age, race, gender etc. On the other end of the spectrum, one's selves may be entirely identical except for each selves trans/trispersonality ids

Language ::

(Note: this is general language for the umbrella term, and may not be applicable to more specific labels that fall underneath it)

Shift (verb): The experience of changing selves

"I'm shifting into Mallory"

Form (verb): The experience of forming new selves

"I formed Riley yesterday"

Mindset (noun): The term used to describe which self you currently identify as

"I'm in Monty and Jamie's mindset right now"

Primary self (noun): The self you most commonly identify as

"I'm in Darce's mindset most often, they're my primary self"

Selves are not separate consciousnesses, though we/us language is also acceptable if you feel more comfortable using it. If you wish to refer to all your selves at once, but want to avoid being mistaken for a system, you could simply say "my selves", or "my cluster"

Flag colours ::

Those that choose to have multiselves: dark pink

Those that do not choose to have multiselves: light pink

Those that experience their selves as being "alter egos" for the main self: grey

Those that are at their core consciousness, experiencing selves that are all equally them: white

Those that have fluid selves, in any sense: lilac

Those that have static selves: light blue

Distinction from plurality: dark blue

Why was this coined?

This label was a reaction to segreID. At first glance the two terms seem very similar, but there are some key differences such as my far laxer approach to including those that identify with some form of plurality. This label is not meant to act as a recoin, nor is it meant to "out-inclusive" the segreID coiner, vampi-rq.

I wanted to create a less specific term that would include me, and anyone else that shared the majority of my experiences

While there is conflict between me and vampi-rq, I still have a lot of appreciation and respect their term and how it was intended to be used. The multiself label is personal to me, and it was born out of respect for the segreID definition rather than in spite of it. SegreID exists to describe a much more specific experience, and it's one that simply doesn't apply to me, which I'm fine with

All thumbs are fingers, but not all fingers are thumbs

While by definition segreID does happen to fall under the multiself umbrella, that does not mean that 100% of the things described here apply to it. Vampi-rq has been explicit about what is and is not segreID. I encourage you to do your research and pick the appropriate label for what you're experiencing. The multiself label is intentionally very vague and nonspecific

As a fictive in a system that has both fictive and fictionkin members, I think I can give some tips on this. It might run a little long but bear with me.

In general? The main determining factor is individuality.

Fictives are wholly separate people from our hosts. We have our own individual perceptions, emotions, beliefs, and a distinct sense of identity. We experience the world differently than our host does, and it's very common for us to have differing identities (genders, sexualities, etc.) and opinions than our host as well.

On the other hand, for someone who's fictionkin, their kintypes are synonymous with who they are in some way. There can be some degree of separation, and some degree of difference in behaviour while shifted. But a kintype is an aspect of your own identity, personality, experience, and sense of self. Kintypes do not display a sense of self or agency separate from your own.

Anyone can be fictionkin, whether you're a system member or a singlet. But singlets cannot be fictives, since a fictive is by definition a system member.

Before a fictive knows they're a fictive, amnesia and dissociation can potentially make them assume they are the host for awhile. When that happens it can sometimes be difficult to differentiate their presence from a kintype.

In my opinion, the easiest way to get around that is to discern whether your supposed kinshifts are in fact switches or not. Some questions I'd ask someone who's just starting to explore that would include:

– Do your kinshifts involve you experiencing a drastic change in personality, sense of self, and values that revert when the shift is over?

– Do your kinshifts involve a dramatic change in behaviour that you are confused by or can't relate to when the shift is over?

– Do your kinshifts involve consistent memory issues around what you did or why you did it that aren't present when the shift is over?

– Do your kinshifts involve a sense of detachment from your body or the world around you that ends when the shift is over?

– Do your kinshifts involve a feeling of being on 'autopilot' or lacking complete control over your actions in a way that you don't experience outside of that shift?

– Do your kinshifts involve you forgetting about your other established kintypes, or other aspects of your identity that you don't usually forget outside of that shift?

– Do your kinshifts involve a sudden change in your gender, sexuality, preferences, or opinions that you do not experience outside of that shift?

– Do your kinshifts involve you liking certain things (foods, music, activities, etc.) that you typically do not enjoy outside of that shift?

– Do your kintypes feel like 'parts of you' that you can't always tap into? Do they sometimes seem to disappear from your identity entirely, only to reappear later with the same strength they originally had?

– Do your kintypes seem to have separate thoughts from you, or do their thoughts seem to interrupt your own? Do those interruptions ever involve them speaking to you directly or replying to your other thoughts?

None of these things are exclusively system experiences. But if you said 'yes' to a lot of them– especially the last one– then you might want to look into systems or plurality.

Best of luck figuring it out from there, and try not to stress too much about whatever conclusions you come to. And remember to take this and all other anecdotal advice you receive with a grain of salt, since no two systems experience things exactly the same way.

ok let me try and explain this shit clearer:

I'm three people. Jinx from Arcane, V from Cyberpunk and Billie from Resident Evil.

I physically (or not ig, but like in headspace and shit) switch between V and Jinx on the regular, usually depending on my mood (host describes me as 'Janusian' which means I'm both Persecutor and Protector apparently, and I tend to 'Jinx out' more on the persecutor side ig) but kinshifts do it too.

When I'm like, completely triggered and vulnerable I ageslide to kid-brain, but I physically also become Powder. And sometimes I slide to teen (we haven't figured out when but kinshifts also do it to me), and when I do that I'm physically Billie.

In all of these cases my like... attitude and personality, voice, etc. changes to match too, but I'm still me. Just a different version of me.

This normal? Or even heard of? Is this maybe what bein a subsystem is like? I have no fuckin clue.

Okay so what's your/ yall's OSDD discovery/ experience been like? Just curious. If you want you can answer privately or not answer at all.

Hmm, so actually we’re still questioning a system; but our main discovery was a particularly interesting event that started us on our questioning journey.

So uh, be us, be in school and not really having the best time, but we start dissociating. Like, pretty severely. So we then we feel a surge of anxiousness, and we feel for some reason EXACTLY like the character Tweek Tweak. The only downside to this is that we really didn’t know if it was some sort of Kinshift or just us being very anxious and connecting it to a character, but we soon had more experiences of feeling JUST like a fictional character, to the point where we actually were like, “okay.. this feels a little more than Fictionkinity.”

Sorry for that uh. Absolutely NOT indented correctly paragraph, but there’s more, so yeah. We often feel like when someone is fronting, we get headaches between switches, and tend to dissociate.

Also VERY wishy-washy opinions. If you’ve known me for more than 2 days you know my url changes a LOT and that’s because some head mates are currently having a tussle about what the usernames gonna be.

Hey, everyone! I just wanted to share my own experience about potential plurality. It's gonna be a loooong post, sorry!!

I'm not gonna talk about my childhood, firstly because I don't remember it, and secondly because it's not that important (I just know it caused C-PTSD). But, it's important to say that I was very lonely in middle school, and so the presence of my imaginary friend started being stronger. Let me explain who this imaginary friend is:

His name is Rex, and he is a black wolf. I was obsessed with wolves for years since I was a little child, and his presence soothed me.

So, when I was 11 years old, I felt him with me. He talked to me, reassured me, and even gave me advice! Since I knew he was in my head, I imagined him beside me to make me feel less lonely. Sometimes, I felt more wolfish during the moments Rex felt I was in danger. So, my mood and behaviors changed a lot since Rex took control of my body sometimes. From a cute, shy little girl (I'm a trans guy, but I didn't know back then), I became a cold and mature person, even more so around guys.

For other children, I was a freak, and even more so since it happened that I talked out loud with him. Even when I had a friend, he was still here, and Rex didn't like this friend. He was right. Years later, I understood she used me for her own needs, and so I stopped talking to her suddenly, and she just didn't care. Rex told me not to answer her anymore, and I listened. I started having new friends in high school, and so I talked with Rex, and I asked him to leave me now because I needed to be normal, and a normal person doesn't have an imaginary friend, right? After that, I stopped hearing from him.

But, I could still feel his presence. He was here. Sometimes, I acted more coldly like him, yet I tried to hide it. But, it happened that some words left my lips, and they weren't my thoughts. Anyway, I forced myself not to see that, and I forgot about him.

Huge time skip! I am now 22 years old. I discovered I was fictionkin and therian months ago, and I have a kintype that is different from others. He transformed me each time I "kinshift," making my behavior and mind change completely. From being introverted, I became extroverted. From being interested, I became annoyed. I like philosophy and cleaning, I become bored with them and even hate them. Besides this strange kintype, I also act more childish sometimes. (These childish behaviors were always here, yet I had to grow up as they became less present outside) I don't talk, I am shy and scared easily, and I hug my plushies while watching children's movies. I can't control anything, and if I try to stop those shifts from happening, I end up having a huge headache.

And one day, I thought maybe I was plural. It's important to know that I discovered DID and OSDD when I was 19 years old and that I discovered plurality a few months ago. All the things I explained happened before I knew these terms. When I thought that maybe this kin was, in reality, a headmate, I suddenly remembered Rex. His name, his appearance, and his voice. And, I used my tarot to maybe communicate with him, and the cards I pulled were so representative, telling me that I should listen to my inner voices. And then I said his name out loud, and a huge feeling of relief and sadness invaded my heart. I wanted to cry, but it wasn't my emotions. It was Rex's. At least, this is how I understood it. 

I often "dissociated", even in high school (my mood switched so much I thought I had BPD!), and it still happens. I don't hear voices, but I do feel they want to say something. But sometimes, I'm surprised by my thoughts. Like, in a philosophy class I was enjoying, I heard, "Oh, it's so boring..." and then someone replied, "No, it's interesting." When I "dissociate", I remember everything or, if it was because of a negative trigger, my memories are blurry. When I "dissociate", it's like my vision becomes blurry and narrowed, I can't focus on anything, and after a few minutes of zoning out, I often feel different. Like I'm someone else.

This is how I feel, and this is why I think I might be plural. I'm not self-diagnosing myself. (I will wait for my appointment with the psychiatrist in February to get one.) But, for now, I can't deny that it's a huge possibility. Even if I'm not diagnosed with anything, in the end, my feelings are still valid. And as much as I am scared that I might fake it, I remember that I don't fake because faking means you know you are faking, and so I would actually be mistaken. But, with all that, can I have mistaken anything?

What makes people sure they are plural? Do they overthink as much as I do? Do I need to wait a bit more to see if I have more "strange experiences" to say I am plural? I don't think I am creating those symptoms since they have been here for years now.

Anyone else sometimes age regress while kinshifting or directly related to a kintype sometimes? Like maybe it's sometimes pet regression too but sometimes it's also like "my kintype is specifically wolf puppy right now" or "ope I was xyz whatever but now I am baby but specifically baby bat".

Could also sometimes be us misidentifying a switch to a headmate with a different type as a kinshift, particularly littles/middles/syskids/ageesliders lol but not always

Some further clarification on my (suspected) plurality

I just wanted to add onto my recent post about my suspicions about being a part of a median system, both to clarify some things and add on new thoughts I have had.

Alright, we're gonna make this a list because... Why not, I do what I want.

I am not claiming that I am 100% a part of a system. I am simple sharing my experiences and trying to understand them in the process. I am fully aware that it could be something else, and I am willing, in the future, to accept whatever else it may be, if it is in fact the case. (This is the main thing I wanted to say, so it's at the top of the list)

I do not know much about the facets in the system, I am mostly just aware of their (probable) existence. I am endeavouring to learn about them, as I think that it's important to acknowledge their existences, cause, you know, they're people too? (That is, if they're actually there)

I have realised I actually use plural first person pronouns for myself, like, a lot. I even did it in the beginning of this very post and only noticed after writing it. So that's cool, I guess. I think I do it more than I realise.

And, finally. In my original post, I said this: "My 'facets' don't think to me in my head, we don't talk to each other to communicate." But here's the thing... I have an incredibly hard time communicating with them. To the point that, maybe monoconcious is the wrong label? Idk, I think I can still get basic things across to and from them, but it's not any real communication. So yeah, that was maybe a bit of misdirect on my part, apologies.

Back on the topic of facets, I think my Orym fictotype might actually be a fabeling? He just feels... Different? Than, say, my other kintypes. For example, my Doctor fictotype is "literally me"™, I always feel like him on a certain level, even more so when in a shift. But when I have a "shift" of Orym, it feels like almost an additive? But not in the same way as my kintype shifts do. It's really hard to explain, but an Orym "kinshift" feels distinctly different to any other kinshift.

In the original post I said "I haven't switched before" which I don't actually think is true? I think it's happened a few times but I also think I'm probably front stuck (yippee) I'm in no way trying to stay in front, I'm totally open to others switching in and I have tried to switch out but it's just not working 🥲
