Summer has arrived, and with it, the single greatest proliferation of life in Central Appalachia. This is the time of great, ostentatious wildflowers, one more showy and resplendent than the next, each competing with the other for the swarms of pollinators that have emerged to drink from the earth's sweet nectar pots, find their mates, and plant their eggs in the all-too-brief span before their whirring energies have faded into oblivion. At no time do I feel more connected to life's urgent, relentless pulse than in the electric heat of summer; the rich meadows, bogs, streambanks, and hedgerows are my temples and the tiny creatures that come to them to feed and renew their kind are the only intermediaries I need to realize true spiritual peace and joy.

Does the king actually love Lain? Or does he just say that as manipulation. I see it as both, he loves him but cares for his own goals more.

The King does love Lain, yeah, and he is also manipulating him, but I don't entirely see it as him "caring for his own goals more". I don't think he would've put this much effort into Lain if he did actually care about his goals more. He let Lain gain a very high rank at a very young age for no other reason than he wants Lain close. Doesn't sound like the action of someone who's more focused on the war front.

Lain makes him feel wanted and loved in a way the rest of the army doesn't due to their personal connection. Other people admire him, but Lain loves him. Which is why he switched from "Tough Top Dog Military Man" routine to "weird parental grey area" talk with Lain once they were alone. It's to make that personal connection clear, and to keep Lain close to him.

oooooh you have no idea how much I love this scene hahahaha ehehehehhe hehehehehehenehehe rubs my hands together os so so so deviously

as the self proclaimed #1 king fan ever say it lives rent free in my brain just. constantly. it's SUCH A GOOD SCENE. the way it's written, how you can choose whether or not to say it and it has the same result but still feels differently, the way you're so caught up in the island and it's name and siffrin and the king that you don't realize COLOR just showed up in the MONOCHROME GAME until it's over......

ngl I think say it might be the most important or at least one of the most important scenes in isat. it doesn't just serve as a dramatic moment or character stuff or a pivotal point in the plot, it also ties the crumbs of the Island and the crumbs about the king that we've found throughout the House and kingquest and the game thus far all together. and it sets up that siffrin cares about the country too. if you say it, it's because he wants to remember as badly as the King does. and if you don't say it, they repeat that "it's gone, it's gone, it's gone!" and are agonized over it.

and in that moment, siffrin and the king aren't enemies. they're people from the same place, who lost their country, who miss their country, who have both ended up in vaugarde by chance, wanting and trying and dare I say wishing to remember what they had before.

Part 2: Early Summer Wildflower Palooza, Cranberry Glades. During the first week of July, as the orchids are peaking in the bogs and seeps, the first wave of summer wildflowers, including the milkweeds and beebalms, arrives in earnest, bringing a blaze of color to open meadows and bog and forest margins. In the old growth woods of the adjacent Cranberry Wilderness, an array of strange and beautiful fungi sprout from moss-covered logs and the forest floor.

From top: tall meadow rue (Thalictrum pubescens), also known as king of the meadow, a wetlands-loving perennial whose distinctive, cream-colored flowers are composed of thread-like stamens only; meadow phlox (Phlox maculata), also known as wild sweet William and spotted phlox, easily distinguished from other phlox species by its red-spotted stems; mountain wood sorrel (Oxalis montana); a ramp (Allium tricoccum) flower, which emerges in early summer on a leafless stalk, after the foliage has died back; a shiny hemlock varnish shelf (Ganoderma tsugae) assailed by pleasing fungus beetles (Megalodacne), rarely seen because they hide under leaf litter during the day and feed on Ganoderma fungi at night; a lovely colony of crown-tipped corals (Artomyces pyxidatus); the beguiling fringed loosestrife (Lysimachia ciliata), an aggressively-colonizing perennial that makes for a shady ground cover in native wildflower gardens; and that blazingly-beautiful mint, scarlet beebalm (Monarda didyma), whose storied history as a medicinal herb stems from its antiseptic and stimulant properties.

here’s another idea:

how about an alice in wonderland au? Pandora as Alice, and Lily as the Queen of Hearts. It would sort of be an enemies to lovers. And Lily has to say ‘Off with your head!’ right?

what if she hesitates? what if instead, she calls for Pandora to be locked up instead of beheaded?

and so at nights, Lily goes to meet Pandora. And they get to know each other. Lily inevitably has to get Pandora out without ruining her own reputation.

and we have Barty as the Mad Hatter, Dorcas as the Cheshire Cat, Regulus as the White Rabbit and Evan as her brother (sister in the originals but yeah) or the March Hare
