God has her favorites and with "god" i mean "Leigh"and with favorites i mean "Wylan" because
-Mal almost had debris crushing him and freaking died
-Kaz bought a ship and found her parents
-Matthias betrayed his mentor and the army that raised him
-David made that speech
-Nikolai handed her the throne
But what did Wylan had to do to get Jesper? Nothing, he just existed and the man´s mind was already all over him,no effort, bet not even he know how he did it.
"lied to his dad" oh please, thats just Wylan being himself

“I dunno what pronouns to use for hanne” they cried after they got a masc haircut, dressed as a boy multiple times, murdered a prince and became the prince, and then he literally started picking out boy names at the end of the book. so definitely not she

Hey does anyone else ever think about the fact that Nina probably lost a lot of weight after taking Jurda Parem because it made her lose her appetite and so she was probably thinner than she'd been in a while, if ever, except it's then implied that she gets back to a healthy weight and her usual self but then when Matthias does the person that she requests to be tailored into is someone who looks pretty much the complete opposite of what she looked like before and both of these are drastic changes that Nina would have rather didn't happen but circumstances forced her into.
Something something the drastic appearance Nina goes through so soon after coming back to herself is one of the first indicators that she is a completely changed person and no matter how hard she tries she can't got back to how she was before Chapter 40.

Lol, Zoya telling Alina she needs to find new allies when they part at the end of s1. Little does she know she really means Alina needs to go find Zoyas future husband 😅

Reading King of Scars…
I’m only two chapters in, and guys, I don’t know if I’ll make it. The Zoyalai trope (pretend relationship to save the kings’ reputation) plus their banter is an immediate hit directed at my feelings. I knew they would be my favorite ship. They already were my favorite people by themselves.
Plus! Bone bridge you say? Chapter 3 and Nina is here b*tches. I just finished crooked kingdom, I… let me survive, please?

unfortunately one of my main storytelling tenets is that i hate it when people come back from the dead. it has to be done really well to work for me, and make sense in the narrative, and across the grisha books it just…isn’t.
nina is having this whole incredible grieving arc but the unfairness of death is made much, much more unfair when other characters are suddenly revived sometimes. also, a villain coming back can so easily have “somehow palpatine returned” energy unless the groundwork for that return is well-laid, and it definitely was not in this case.

Maybe I will post about this in more depth later but, I truly hate what happened to Nina as a character. Character butchering is kind of an issue in general throughout the Nikolai duology, but as a particular Nina/Helnik enjoyer, I just really hate what happened to her.

“How could you be sure I spoke Suli?” she called after him.
“That was a spin of Makker’s Wheel. Lucky for me, my number came up.”
“One day your luck will run out, Mister Brekker.”
“Then I’ll just have to make some more.” He paused and turned to look back over his shoulder at her. “The Suli never forget their own, General Nazyalensky. Just like crows.”
the proximity of kaz talking about how its his luck that's the reason for how everything works out in the end for him and then proceeding to talk about how crows don't forget their own. like maybe its his luck he's gone this far or maybe its also his crows and how they look after and watch out for each other. how they've found the family that they've lost through each other and how he wouldn't be there without them

I really hope that in the rest of the series, the directors will not suggest that the little palace was a Darkling prison for the Grisha... Because yes, that's what King of Scars is insinuating according to my memories, with the Darkling removing grisha from their families, when it's not true. As we know, the little palace is a refuge for the grisha. Not a jail. Grisha are not taken away from their families. They are always entitled to a contract with them and they even receive money for that. Leigh Bardugo's coaster in King of Scars is pathetic. I hope we don't have that in the rest of the series.
I hope so too, I hate the idea of them taking the grisha's only safe haven and twisting it into something sinister or trying to paint it as some wrongdoing on Aleks part. One thing that does give me a bit of hope that they won't is that in season 2 baghra says this about the LP when talking about the grisha being persecuted again: 'driven out of the very palace that you built to keep them safe.' So in the show they do acknowledge that Aleks built it to keep grisha safe and not to imprison them, or steal them from their families. If they did go that route then it would be a contradiction to this moment, that doesn't mean they won't do it but I do think the show has been pretty good at taking out the parts and contradictions that fans didn't like and called out. So fingers crossed.
