-☠️ And one faithful evening he comes to kill you off for good but it goes sideways and now you both are making out.

Since my friends know around October I become the "feral for the fair" guy and I adore writing fair dates, one of my friends sent me a fair date moodboard. It has made me feral over the fair again so fair date headcanons of Jackson and Roach dragging the 141 to the fair in the US with them

141 at the fair:

Roach sounds more Southern than the 141 has ever heard him before they even get there. Like he's shifted into full sweet Southern boy mode just out of excitement.

Jackson is similarly excited to a point that his accent starts coming out. The moment Jackson calls Gaz "Darlin'," Gaz knows that he's going to have a long day ahead of him. (He's only ever heard Jackson call him that with that voice in one context and he's been Pavloved into reacting to it, much to his embarrassment.) (Jackson does not notice that he's driving his boyfriend crazy)

Jackson and Roach have a list of foods that they plan on making the 141 try, just to see if it will kill them

"I say we make them try a turkey leg first"

"Turkey leg? Thats weak Sanderson, we are getting these men a deep fried macaroni donut burger first"

"So you're just trying to take them out on the first go? Dude we need a middle ground"

Gaz takes a singular bite of a deep fried macaroni donut burger and immediately spits it out. Same thing with the rest of the 141 who then watch in horror as Jackson and Roach (southern boys raised on grease) split the rest of it between them

Soap absolutely wants to play all the games. Roach tries to warn him that most of them are rigged but Soap still insists

He loses like forty dollars before finally winning a tiny stuffed animal at one of the booths

Roach sees how upset he is and and is like "do you want me to win you something?" And Soap is all "no, don't waste your money too"

Roach then walks directly over to one of the games and does it perfectly, winning a giant dog plush for Soap.

Soap asks him how the fuck he did it (with a big grin on his bright red face as he hugs the dog) and Roach just kinda shrugs and is like "I used to work the county fair back home, I know the ins and outs"

Its mostly the truth, but he isn't going to tell Soap that even if he hadn't won the game the Carnie would have pretended he had thanks to the thirty dollars he'd slipped him

Ghost is like "oh let me try one too" and does one of the ball throwing ones and, despite Roach knowing the stuff is literally fixed with a spring so it won't move, he hits it so hard that it knocks it back

He gets Roach a stuffed bear and when he goes to do the thing again to get Soap something the carnie literally turns him away ajsjjdjd

Jackson tries to drag the 141 on rides with them and at first they're all game but as they get closer Gaz and Soap are like "uhhh, is that duck tape on that?"

"Oh yeah, ducktape probably holds that bad boy together"

They immediately nope out and Gaz is anxious the entire time that he watches Jackson and Ghost is on the ride.

Ghost is only on the ride because Jackson dropped a "do it, no balls" to him and he is nothing if not willing to do a challenge.

Roach has a picture of him and Jackson on this crazy ride with Jackson screaming and Ghost looking unbelievably unbothered

Price dissappears on the group like ten minutes after the burger incident and they later find him sitting watching the animal shows

He leaves with them only temporarily to go through the petting zoo where he buys like six cups of food and feeds every single one of the animals as they go through

He then ditches the team to go back to watching the animal shows

They go through the hall of industries and Roach buys up like so much candy from one of the local confectioners. He drops like 300 dollars sjsbdhhdjd

Because they're in either Jackson or Roach's home state the hall of industries has a lot of republican/right wing merch as they're going through

Ghost, Soap, and Gaz are horrified but Jackson and Roach are wheezing as they look through the shirts

*Jackson holds up a shirt that says "I love trucks, beer, tits, and the USA" on it with an American flag overlayed*

Roach: well thats a must buy

They spend like 30 minutes looking at the game and fish commissions little display (just a giant fish tank)

Roach made them go later in the day so by the time they get done there the sun has set and all the fair lights are on

Though Soap and Gaz are still terrified of the rides, Jackson and Roach make the men go on the ferris wheel with them because "its literally the most romantic thing in the universe guys"

In Ghost, Soap, and Roach's little car things are very cute. Roach takes pictures at the top of the view and them even though Soap is literally so stressed that he's going to drop his phone

He also makes a point to kiss both of them at the top cause he's always wanted that Romantic movie moment

In Gaz and Jackson's car, Gaz is freaked the fuck out still. He saw the ducktape and he is clinging to the side. When they stop at the top he's literally terrified.

Jackson briefly considers rocking the cart but instead makes the smart choice to be a good boyfriend

He sweet talks Gaz with his accent, wrapping his arms around him to comfort and assure him. He gets him to focus on the view with him and Gaz slowly relaxes. Jackson steals a kiss as they start going back down.

They leave after that, though not without Roach complaining a bunch because "the energy of the fair at night is just so much better!"

They meet up with Price in the parking lot where he is eating funnel cake (much to Roach and Jackson's amusement)

Soaps giant dog and Roach's giant teddy bear goes in their shared room with Ghost

Jackson wears his "trucks, beer, tits, and the USA" shirt all the time while lounging around at home and every time Gaz see's it he rolls his eyes

Deltarune Chapter 2: Live Thoughts

So, since the new chapter of Deltarune came out, I've played it all the way through, so, here are my thoughts as I had them. Basically a live-blog, but, not live anymore, I wrote these in my notes app before.

NOTE: Obviously there are going to be ALL THE SPOILERS for Deltarune Chapter 2 in this, as well as Chapter 1. Reader discretion is advised.

So, yeah, that's Deltarune Chapter 2. In conclusion: this explains nothing, raises 120% more questions, and overall is still an incredible, wonderful game. I also like how each Chapter so far has been almost as long as a full play through of Undertale, and yet we're still somehow only 2 sevenths of the way through. Oh yeah, did I not mention? After completing it, it brought me to a chapter select with SEVEN DIFFERENT CHAPTERS, only two of which were available. So, you know. THAT'S FUN!

Yugioh Ep 35 S4: Raphael Joins the Pile of Dead Bodies

Ah 2020, thankfully we have one trashfire somewhat behind us, but I’m still avoiding social media for so many obvious reasons because of all the other trashfires that just never seem to stop burning, so lets talk about Yugioh with all of this newfound time.

Ah, card games. Card games that go on for 6-7 episodes. Lets see how they pad it out:

In a lot of ways, Roland really is just padding for the show, and that’s OK. He’s doing his best, by doing literally nothing but stand outside and check the time.

Inside the dusty soul chamber, Tristan has decided to do us the favor of recapping what happened last episode, which included the return of our four dead friends, so that they could die...again.

Seto’s reaction to seeing these dead people suddenly alive again was very “guys...I went nuts like years ago, I’m just going with it at this point.” and he’s still 100% positive that this is all a hologram and that no one will ever die.

Whatever it takes for Seto to get out of bed in the morning, I guess.

One of the big mechanics the game is that you need to stay level headed, or the Orichalcos just kind of slurps you up. This explains a little why Dartz is so freakin chill basically all of the time, just the Bob Ross of evil over there. It also is sort of funny because Pharaoh and Seto are the least chill people to have ever lived so he’s just kind of waiting it out to see whom between Seto and Kaiba gets the most angry first and completely botches it.

Yugi has to do literally nothing and for the first time in his life this is the right choice.

I’m so glad he gets to use his big brain move of “If I don’t play, no one dies!” from S1. Glad it came back to serve him for once instead of just make everyone else really annoyed.

Yugi just...not moving means it’s now Seto’s turn to put down some cards, and he kinda looks over at Pegasus and goes...well you know what’s gonna happen next.

I have no idea why he didn’t attack Pegasus. Like this episode is kind of weird because we got these flashbacks of Pegasus being like “you’re my only hope, Yugi!” and it’s like wtf, Pegasus trapped you on a murder island and tried to kill you multiple times. He abducted Mokuba and turned both the Kaiba brothers into cards.

yo did Seto and Pegasus get back together in between seasons or something? Was there a whole character development where these two have fun brunches in San Fransisco now? Because I would watch that anime. I would watch the anime where Seto and Pegasus are co-hosting Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, and just destroying every unsuspecting local restaurant they brunch in.

But are we just assuming that the eyeball did all that evil stuff from S1 and that otherwise Pegasus is a good person? Because like...he was a mess before he got possessed. He’s kind of a Yugi, he’s kind of a Bakura, he’s kind of a Marik...in that there’s a mess in that bean, and getting possesed just only amplified what was already there.

So, with his smug as hell grin, Seto surprises Dartz by only barely getting affected by this inescapable moral dilemma and Seto just very quickly deciding to do a murder. And then we get a little blimp throwback to S2 (S3? I don’t even remember at this point, since we’ve been stuck in S4 for an entire year. Thanks 2020.)

If blocking the shot when Marik did it in S3 or S2 or whenever that was, didn’t get Mai to like Joey, then it shouldn’t work if you do it a second time.

But hey, I guess it’s better than letting her perma-die. Although this show desperately needs to figure out how to use Mai if they’re gonna keep her around, youknow?

Like all ships are fine and valid here, ship whatever you want to your hearts content: I don’t ship at all, as you know, but I hope one day they give Mai a personality that is consistently likeable. I do want to like her because she’s like...good at what she does when she plays cards and can be that can be a fun “hey I’m a girl but I’m not a freakin ‘gamer girl’ you male chauvinist assholes” type of character. But, the show just...the show doesn’t know what they want outside of a little romantic tension that they legally can’t follow through because of a 5-6 year age gap with a teenager.

This show actively tries to destroy this ship, and then turns around and is like “oh shoot this ship is all we have.” This show tries to lift up Mai as a feminist icon one season, and then tears her down for being “too” feminist the next season when she decides to--youknow--kill Joey Wheeler because he made her feel weak or something when he saved her life. 

Like the show does a lot to explore weakness and strength, and how what we see as weakness is actually strength, and how what we tend to attribute as strengths is actually weakness, and how our modern career/school/success expectations set us up for failure, but I think they explored that way better with Seto than they ever did with Mai.

Could’ve been cool Mai, you could’ve been cool.

Anyhoo, that was my spicy commentary on a 10+ year old anime, good to get it off my chest.

Seto and Yami have the typical problem they have whenever they play cards together, where one goes completely rogue. Except this time, the one going rogue isn’t Seto, it’s Yami. He’s just like...I’ll make life for Seto very difficult and I will lose this game and I don’t even mind because I’m already dead, deal with it.

So honestly this is an episode where it’s just Seto demanding we kill a bastard, and Yami being like “but not THAT bastard” and Seto just shrugging and saying “I have to kill A bastard, Yugi! Just CHOOSE one!”

That actual line in the show (I forget what it was exactly) does infer that Seto thinks Joey holds him back, and that implication speaks miles about Seto’s insecurities.

HOW THOUGH..........what are you jealous of, Seto?

You’re better at cards than he is, he’s never beat you at anything. It’s not about who’s best friends with Yugi because...Yugi’s possessed so Yami is always going to take first place...

......so what could it possibly BE?

Seto doesn’t attend school anymore, is it about that? Is it because Joey is likeable? Is it because Joey pretends he has a much older girlfriend? I mean hypothetically, Blue Eyes White Dragon is WAY older than Mai so...that can’t be it.

.....what IS it???

Does the “friendship” he have with Joey make Seto too soft? Is that what’s holding him back? Because Seto doesn’t actually think he’s friends with these people and says that Yugi and co are “Mokuba’s friends” so like....

.....what are you talking about, Seto???

Is it because you’re addicted to cards again? Because that’s...sort of Joey’s fault because he was the one who told you he needed a ride to Jacksonville, and then let slip that the “King of Games” title was up for grabs, is that it?

Are you just tired of Joey asking you for a ride?

Not like it matters, because Joey survives, and Seto gets to feel like a complete asshole about it.

As Raphael (who is this purple blur here) motorcycles into the dome of souls, Rolands last words were

“You can’t go in there!”

which was the weirdest thing to say to a guy you just saw fall down a 50 story building a few hours ago. Raphael not being dead should be the thing Roland fixates on, but instead he’s seen so many people die and come back to life, that he’s only concerned that Raphael will get in trouble for trespassing.

Again, Roland is the only Kaiba that hasn’t died yet, and it’s because he’s the only Kaiba that hasn’t broken the law.

Dude. What if the reason Roland is standing outside is because he’s been politely looking for the doorbell to be let in?

...the players asking for death...like clockwork...and me asking for the end of this freakin game...we played...1 turn this episode...

And you may ask...well what else could possibly happen to stretch this out and well...

Raphael dives in on a motorcycle to save the day. Which is an aesthetic, by the way, this huge man covered in like a dozen belts, doing a wheelie jump into a chasm of 1 million souls. that’s an aesthetic.

So he shows up, gets off his bike and I was like “Oh good, someone to maybe save Yugi saving Joey saving Mai?” And instead, I was...not given that.

Mostly Raphael is here because he ALSO wants to kill Dartz, and is like “can I join? I know you’ve only played like 1 round, just deal me a new hand, it’ll be fine.” and it’s like...we already played the Orichalcos Raphael, this is not a game of Uno, you cannot just jump in.

Dartz is sort of obsessed with how everyone around him has potential for evil except for him, the chillest human to ever be born, and I gotta say...when he’s in this room...Dartz has a point.

+++++++++++++RANT ABOUT BEING PERFECT FEEL FREE TO SKIP++++++++++++++

It is sort of nice to have the concept of an older generation (in this case 10,000 years older) fighting with a younger generation. To have the older, more typically wiser generation say “Listen, I kinda screwed the planet and the war economy and the prison system...and I’m gonna keep doing that...and you can’t stop me because you’re a bunch of hypocritical dumbasses.” and then the younger generation say. “We don’t care if we’re a mess, dude. We aren’t the problem here.”

I may be putting some recent topical STUFF into this mold here, but it is a nice little analogy that they made even someone who is such a human disaster as Yami and Seto “morally good” enough to fight Dartz. You don’t have to be a perfect Harvard Grad to fight the system, you don’t have to be an entirely problematic-free savior, you can be even as problematic as Seto Kaiba--just get rid of the dumb assholes trying to destroy the world. That’s all.

Like this concept is strangely prescient because in 2020 we’re in a weird time period where if you aren’t perfect, you’re not allowed to have opinions. You’re not allowed to make content. You’re not allowed to make change. This is mostly an online problem in places like twitter, but it’s a real problem--because in the end what you’re left with is no one that wants to step up to the plate because they know that they, too, are flawed.

And like not even just as a political thing, even as a creator, as an artist, I see this problem more and more with kids. Kids who are like “I am afraid to draw because what if I do it wrong and I get dragged on twitter years later?” or “I want to make a story, but I’m afraid to get cancelled because my fantasy story has problematic stuff in it? Am a bad person for wanting to write it?” And it’s like...what are we doing to young creators right now? Did we all fail humanities? How have we failed art and literature SO badly that we’ve come to this point that people are too afraid to even learn how to do it right?

Anyway that was a tangent, but like...you see the similarities, right? That if you really were as perfect as Dartz either politically or creatively, you’d be a freakin monster and would probably just tear down everyone else around you on twitter rather than lift other people up. It’s a stretch but eh, it’s been a while since I went on a good Yugioh tangent and like

So it’s at this point that Dartz turns to Raphael is like “I mean...we weren’t really doing anything else, and Yugi and Yami are playing so slowly...I guess I have time to bust your nuts” and decides to bust his nuts.

Oh hey, I was right.

And yeah, that’s still effed up. Dartz killed his Raphael’s family, left him on an island, and then adopted him later after forcing him to dig up their graves. Like...Raphael, that’s effed up.

He also did the same thing to everyone else (and for Valon he just kinda glazed over that really fast because we had to edit his backstory out of the English version)

PS at this part Mokuba started sweating bullets and Tea leaned over and was like “Is this true, Mokuba?”

And Mokuba was like “...yes.”

Because, I don’t think Mokuba can keep any secret from Tea. Like for reals, Tea may be the most dangerous thing to all of KaibaCorp if she wasn’t so distracted by Yami’s endless string of problems. Mokuba is constantly telling them all of Seto’s deepest darkest secrets and there is like nothing Seto can do about it.

The animation of Gozaburo turning into a beautiful Dartz was just a simple fade to white, but man--imagine if they had dome some crazy effed up animation where Gozaburo just whips back his head and he has ass length blue hair and long, luscious lashes?

Imagine.

Anyway, this was enough for Raphael, who was already our most gullible and unstable person on this show, to just flip that switch and go lime green like all those other minibosses before him.

Really glad we built up Raphael for him to just die at the door hahaha.

That was so freakin random.

OK then. Thanks for nothing, Raphael.

I guess we go to the next episode to see if we finally play another turn? We can hope for good things. But if we don’t play a full turn I will NOT be surprised.

they were invisible, out here. in manhattan, ellie was probably always at least a little invisible, but there was a certain freedom in knowing that absolutely no one was looking twice at him or them -- that they had a whole uninterrupted weekend to explore stretched out ahead of them. 

back home, he was starting to reach a level of notoriety that brought few places he could go without attracting stares with it. the new crew was coming together faster than he thought it would, and colt was admittedly pretty pleased with his progress, so far. when ellie came back home for the summer, there might actually be something to show her. something that might even have a shot at impressing her. 

her anonymity would evaporate as soon as he got the chance to show her off, back in l.a. -- so he figured they might as well take full advantage of this weekend, making the most of their time as nobodies while they still could. 

ellie lifted the hand that wasn’t twined through his and pointed up at a nondescript building on the corner, just a block from her apartment. “this is one of the buildings i have classes in,” she explained, “my biochem lab and my stats class are both in here.”

“you know, if you’d been at my college, maybe i wouldda considered hanging around.” there were few things he cared about less than the ins and outs of her coursework, but the thought of ellie in some lecture hall, with her nose buried in a book was something that never failed to endear him to her. she was almost unfairly cute.

“what, there weren’t any girls you liked in boston?” she asked playfully, shooting him a look as they waited at the corner for the light to turn. 

“there were plenty of girls,” he smirked, “but i wouldn’t say i liked them.” what he means goes unsaid, but he knows ellie is smart enough to read between the lines: she’s the only person to ever do this to him, the only girl he’s actually made room in his life for. 

she’d wormed her way in so effectively he’d hardly even noticed it. try as he might to push her away, she was always there -- challenging him when he did his best to shove her to the side with calculated barbs, comforting him when he didn’t think it was what he wanted at all, caring for him when he hardly felt like deserved it. 

before her, he hadn’t been interested in anything like this. people were always a disappointment -- without fail, anyone who could get close would find a way to take advantage. feeling the way he did about her was messy and painful and not something he was keen on exploring, at first. he knew it’d be a disaster from the moment he met her, but ellie didn’t let herself be deterred by a few casual insults. she dug her fucking heels in and blended into his life seamlessly, until he found himself in a suit dancing with her at her high school prom like an unrecognizable idiot. 

only a moron with no sense of self-preservation would’ve told her they loved her, so of course he had. for the longest time, it felt like he was waiting for the other shoe to drop -- for her to change her mind, for her to do what he’d long since expected and make him regret ever forcing himself to take that step out of his self-imposed isolation and into the sun. 

but ellie was nothing if not a master at proving him wrong -- at making him eat his words. at defying the expectations of everyone around her, including him, sometimes, when he was dumb enough to underestimate her.

the way she was tugging on their clasped hands recaptured his attention, shaking him out of his reverie. “this place has the best dollar pizza. there’s, like, forty pizzerias within a ten-minute walk but this one is the best and cheapest. during midterms i ate here twice a day for two weeks straight.”

“sounds like you’re getting spoiled,” he remarked, dropping her hand to wrap his arm around her shoulders, instead, pulling her in close on the sidewalk. “what’re you gonna do when it’s back to l.a. burgers and tacos all the time?”

“i do kinda miss the street food,” she mused, leaning against his side. he’d been all over her last night, when he first arrived, relearning the curve of her body with his hands and his mouth over and over again, hardly able to get enough of her after so long without the real thing. pictures and videos and late-night facetimes were all well and good, but nothing could make his heart leap like pulling her into his arms in person. finally.

he still hadn’t had his fill, but she was adamant about showing him around the city, so -- they got out of bed. and even if they stayed inside all weekend, colt was certain they still wouldn’t be able to get through even half of everything he wanted to do to her.

“oh!” she exclaimed suddenly, guiding him to the right with the arm she had around his waist. he dipped his head on a smile he just couldn’t hold back when she slipped her hand into the back pocket of his jeans. “this was what i wanted to show you, come on.”

they ducked into an alcove between what looked like two office buildings. there was a small fountain and a few abandoned tables -- for a moment, they were completely alone, under an arch of spring flowers that provided a brief respite from the bustle of midtown, waiting for them just beyond the sidewalk. 

“i always come here to study. i feel like it’s so peaceful.” ellie was smiling up at the flowers, hardly paying him any attention -- so colt took a moment to let himself look, studying the sweet expression on her face with a smile. it’d been so long that he’d almost forgotten how beautiful she was, if that was even possible. but seeing her here, now, was like a kick to the stomach; she knocked the wind out of him just by doing nothing, just by being herself -- every goddamn time.

“it’s pretty cool,” he agreed, forcefully tearing his eyes from her to look around, too. “i mean -- we’re alone, so.”

ellie laughed, turning under his arm to face him. “is that all it takes for you?”

colt shrugged the shoulder she wasn’t tucked under, shooting her a wide grin. “what can i say? i’m a simple guy.”

“well -- we knew that.” she squirmed away giggling as he pushed her playfully in retaliation, rushing over to the far side of the fountain. colt followed, stepping up behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist from behind, burying his face in the side of her neck.

he exhaled. there weren’t words for how relaxing it was to know he didn’t need to look over his shoulder, here, with her. for once, there was almost nothing on his mind -- just the blissful peace of a weekend spent with his favorite person. some of the leaden weight that seemed to be perpetually pushing on his shoulders was slowly starting to ease as he stood there with her, under the curtain of the peonies above them.

colt fished in his pocket for a quarter, offering it to her. “wanna make a wish?” 

ellie took it from his hand immediately. “you’re getting soft on me,” she murmured, huffing out a small sound of amusement when he nipped at the side of her neck in return. colt hooked his chin over her shoulder, watching as she flipped the coin into the fountain. 

“what’d you wish for?” he asked, just so he could see her do what she did, which was spin around indignantly in his hold, scoffing.

“i can’t tell you! then it won’t come true.”

he rolled his eyes at her. “that rule isn’t real.”

“well, i don’t want to risk it.” 

colt lifted both hands to her face, cupping her cheeks and drawing her in for a slow kiss. ellie melted against him prettily, as responsive as ever -- how sensitive she was never failed to light a fire somewhere within him that he had trouble ignoring. the little sigh that slipped from her mouth into his felt like water after walking through a desert, and he swallowed it greedily, tilting her face up with fingers at her jaw for an angle that would allow him to deepen their kiss insistently. 

ellie entertained him until she had to break away to breathe. he backed off at the first push of her hands, the expression on his face splitting into an obnoxious grin as soon as he noticed the light flush spreading out across her nose, creeping onto her cheeks. the way her nose turned red every time they made out, without fail, would probably never stop being absurdly appealing to him.

that was another annoying thing she’d done to him. colt constantly found his brain getting stuck on the most absurd shit, where she was concerned. things he’d never even thought about before, like an errant lock of hair, curling into her eyes, or the flash of a bare shoulder when her oversized sweater slipped down suddenly seemed more erotic than porn, just because it was her. 

“you’re gorgeous,” he mumbled, pressing his thumbs into her flushed cheeks. “i can’t stand it.”

ellie was still working to catch her breath, instilling him with a sense of pride he didn’t bother trying to push away. “sorry. i can try to work on that.”

“you’d better.” his eyes dropped to where her hands were fisted in the front of his sweatshirt, clinging tightly to him like she was afraid he’d slip away at any moment. colt could feel the expression on his face soften the longer he watched her, the pounding of his heart ratcheting up dangerously when she licked her lips and glanced up at him seriously.

“i’m really glad you’re here,” she said finally, shattering the sudden stillness that seemed to have surrounded them -- in the middle of manhattan, of all places. “you have no idea how badly i missed you.”

colt’s thumb stroked her cheek. he was pretty sure he had some idea. “you’re sure i can’t convince you to transfer, right? ‘cause... ucla is, like, a twenty minute drive on my bike --”

ellie laughed. the sweet trill of sound did little to temper his racing pulse. “shut up, come on. there’s so much more i want to show you.”

he let her spend the rest of the day playing tour guide, pulling him around the city, until they’d eventually wandered into some unfamiliar neighborhood downtown, far enough away from the main avenues that the foot traffic on the sidewalk was considerably less. finally, they could take their time, instead of ducking out of the way to avoid the rushing speed of people in a hurry, ignoring glares from busy new yorkers disgusted by the way they kept stopping to kiss in the middle of the crosswalk. 

colt bought her an ice cream cone because her excitement was too cute to ignore, grinning to himself as he snuck glances over at her, enjoying it. it was going to be pretty much impossible to tear himself away from her on sunday night, but he was trying not to think about that.

“anything special you want to do tonight?” she asked between licks, drawing his eyes to the way her wrist flicked to keep the swirl of vanilla soft serve even all the way around. 

“i have a few ideas.” she caught sight of the smirk on his face and rolled her eyes. “i’m open to suggestions, though.”

“well -- i did have a place in mind for dinner,” she said, though he hardly heard her over the way she licked a trail of melting ice cream from her wrist, “and then i thought we could walk around some more... and turn in early.”

“you know, that’s exactly what i was thinking,” he answered with an agreeable grin, already fantasizing about just how late she’d allow him to keep her up and all the things he could do to her with several uninterrupted hours holed away in her single. a part of him he did his best to ignore most of the time was also already dreaming about the inevitable lazy sunday morning that would follow, when he could wake up with her for the second time in too fucking long and put all his energy into keeping her in bed until the last possible minute.

colt grinned unabashedly at her, watching her finish off her ice cream cone with a few bites. fuck it. they were invisible here, so why not let himself indulge that other guy? once he was back in l.a., all of this was done for -- he’d be back to his rough edges like they never softened in the first place.

“nah,” he promised, reaching out for her again and pulling her in close, dropping a kiss onto her temple. “we’ll carb you up at dinner. you’ll make it through.”

the source material: princes of the apocalypse & blatant disregard for PotA’s actual intended plot

we begin our scene in red larch, a small town several days journey from waterdeep, in a bar. tove, shel, and screech—being, as they are, late-teen queer and trans kids—have been here for many, many hours, they’ve been loud, and they’ve been really fucking cheap. so they’re quietly asked to leave.

they get a room at the local motel, sleep off their hangovers, and wake up to a Fantasy Continental Breakfast with some alarming components. tove just starts eating eggs whole. just swallows them. she just vores the goddamn eggs. why not?

the proprietor of the inn, a widowed middle aged woman who’s a bit… well. she senses auras, and she thinks there’s something shady going on. a few of her chickens have gone missing, and she’s pretty sure there’s a nefarious plot at hand. she heard the tarnlar kids were talking about a plague, too, and not to be Fantasy Racist but she’s pretty sure there’s some kinda warlock or wizard to blame.

the trio heads out to the tarnlar house and meet mrs tarnlar, rynessa, who’s a little transphobic but it’s….whatever. her kids have, in fact, been talking about a plague out by lance rock, but they heard it from somebody who heard it from somebody who heard it from somebody, and you know you can’t really trust anything that innkeeper says. she’s not right in the head, you know. in any case, the trio asks to talk to her kids, and they’re waved over to anna, age 7. anna has a very high dex and dreams of becoming a thief one day. she pickpockets one of tove’s daggers.

now, a quick bit of scene setting: tove is a 6 foot tall half-orc with a horrifying str of 22. shel is 8’5” and has the highest wis of anyone in the party but also has 4 int and 1 cha, so that’s where she’s at. she’s really just a farm girl who wants a girlfriend. screech, the kenku, has 2 str. They literally can’t hold themself up on their own legs. they ride on the Tall Girls’ shoulders in turns.

tove tries to grapple the child. fails. screech casts mage hand, gets a nat 20 on a sleight of hand roll, and deftly plucks the dagger out of anna’s hands and lets it hover in the air out of her reach. she jumps for it a bit, unsuccessfully.

tove goes to retrieve it. screech lets it hover a bit higher. tove jumps for it, unsuccessfully.

anyway, anna is enamored by the fact that they’re adventurers and also by the fact that tove and shel are very, very tall. she tries to trade information for the dagger, but is ultimately way too excited and explains that she and her brother kai heard from the milliner that there’s a curse and/or plague out at the cliffs by lance rock. the crew takes some “you’re not chicken, are you?”ing from the seven year old before they eventually decide to bite the bullet and head out to lance rock.

there are a lot of warning signs at lance rock. unfortunately, the only person in the party who can read common is the kenku, who can’t talk, so they continue onwards more or less unknowingly. at this point, your humble DM makes the horrible, horrible mistake of introducing a swarm of spiders as a low level, easy battle to introduce these new d&d players to the mechanics of attack rolls.

tove had to make a death saving throw. shel at one point barrel-rolled and somehow not one single spider got caught under her 8’5”, 450lb frame. screech somehow makes it through this unscathed.

the zombies in lance rock are pretty boring. the crew makes it through well, killing two zombies and very pointedly avoiding waking up any of the rest of them. tove shows off how strong she is by picking up an entire sacrifical altar for literally no reason. they find the signet ring of a noble household from waterdeep on a severed arm and pocket it for a sidequest somewhere further down the line. they sneak past some zombie furries cosplayers. tove tries to convince shel they should put screech in an iron trunk and leave them.

then they get to the endgame of this tiny tiny little encounter casually borrowed with a few changes from princes of the apocalypse and are sneaking up on the mad wizard oreioth in his workshop. how they managed to sneak up on him in the first place? we just don’t fucking know. in any case, screech decides to start this encounter off by using mage hand to knock over a jar on a shelf on the opposite side of the cavern.

your humble DM makes their second mistake: letting dean describe the jar’s contents. it apparently contains a faintly glowing purple liquid, very thick and viscous. 

i shrug. it falls on the floor, the jar shatters, and where the contents fall, a portal to the outer planes opens up. think the spell black tentacles. blackness seeps into the room. everything goes cold. a zombie gets grabbed by a few of the undulating, many-eyed tendrils, and pulled in, disappearing fucking instantly. the wizard oreioth screams, very loudly, and takes a couple uncertain, worried steps forward.

roll initiative! or, wait, don’t, i guess, because halfway through shel’s preparation to throw her javelin, tove gets the grand idea to talk to the guy. “hail and well met!” she doesn’t actually say in her vaguely-british accent, but absolutely does in my head since she’s soren @transgirlthor’s baby and is pretty much what it says on the tin. “i’m a warlock too and that totally wasn’t my fault, and um, anyway, we’re kind of? lost?”

tove is nobility. oreioth is also nobility. they’re also both trans, which you had to see coming from a name like oreioth, let’s get fucking real. they knew each other in high school! oreioth is super offended that tove would suggest he was a warlock, like he was anything like her family… doesn’t she remember him?

tove rolls for it. apparently she does.

(screech and shel, who know absolutely nothing about tove’s background, look on in confusion)

the conversation goes downhill! turns out summoning an eldritch abomination and then trying to play innocent doesn’t really tend to... work out. shocker. also, three zombies are shambling their way down the corridor some 60 feet away, and there’s a goddamn eldritch abomination. the DM, very aware at this point that they almost died fighting fucking spiders, is more than a little worried. but hey! maybe it’ll work out!

remember when they rolled initiative, like, ages ago? yeah, so shel rolled 17, the eldritch abomination rolled 16, and tove rolled 14. none of the other numbers matter.

shel throws her javelin. hits oreioth for an amount of damage i no longer remember. as a reaction, oreioth shouts a command word and awakens four more zombies! DM casually begins preparing to five-second foreshadow a deus ex machina while desperately trying to find a spell an eldritch abomination would cast that wouldn’t be a completely inescapable TPK.

dean raises their hand.

dean: talking is a free action, right? avia: yeah dean: cool! i say hello avia: um dean, whose kenku has the haunted one background and some experience with great old one cults: in primordial

so after a mostly-telepathic round of bargaining with a great old one that deals psychic damage to everyone in the room save screech themself (they have a haunted ring of mind shielding, which will absolutely not come up later, definitely not), a deal is struck: the GOO kills everything here, except for the party. in return, screech’s soul? ha. hahahaha. when they die, that’s getting fucking eaten, no take-backsies and no getting brought back.

they are still, at this point, level one. two hours ago they couldn’t even kill spiders.

the eldritch abomination casts, like, a modified version of incendiary cloud. every undead drops, instantly. oreioth is on fire and will be dead by the next round because he has like four HP left. tove’s next in the order, and casts eldritch blast.

the eldritch abomination pulls their dimensional portal shut with some truly alarming physics that sounded pretty damn cool when i described it three hours ago and don’t really know how to repeat. the crew are left alone to explore the workshop and study. they loot everything, obviously. tove even takes the curtains.

but we’re not quite finished yet. there’s a bloody shrine in the study, see, with a sigil tove recognizes but can’t quite place carved into it. also some severed limbs, which are carefully removed and any jewelry looted, including a beaded friendship bracelet. it’s got two heart-shaped beads and between those, letter beads spelling out the name jemma. screech puts it on their ankle immediately and then splashes some holy water on the shrine. then all three of them touch the fucking thing, in unison, and like—?

listen. i know i’m the one who put it there in the first place, specifically for this to happen. but i didn’t think they’d actually, like, do it.

anyway, screech hasn’t taken any damage this whole time. tove and shel very much have. their wounds, now, reopen. their blood, seemingly of its own accord, finds its way into the engraved sigil. and when the bloody sigil is complete, they drop to the floor. dead? unconscious? simply unoccupied? who knows. 

at least they’re level 2 now. and screech is—probably—fine.

a raven crows behind them. shel and tove, in their astral forms, turn around. they roll insight. shel, not particularly quick on the uptake, recognizes something is very, very wrong about the prepubescent half-elf with the raven perched on her shoulder, not there only seconds before. tove recognizes her baby sister.

“mother’s going to kill me,” says lothar.

The hug and the headcanons were much appreciated.  :D  (You say it started getting long like that’s a bad thing.  But then I am apparently the embodiment of that comment like you’re the drunk girl in the bathroom at the club post, so perhaps I am not the best judge.)  And I don’t know if you were trying to kill me with that new preview, or make me want to kill Chris, but either way, mission accomplished.  I swear, that boy.  He’s gonna give me gray hairs before this is over.  XD  *basks in the warm, fluffy goodness anyway*

Omg, Craft Dad Peter may be one of the best things I’ve ever heard of.  Chris and Noah never have to buy another scarf or pair of gloves, Peter makes them for them (and often for the rest of the pack, too, but his mates get the best) as a way of subtly staking claim.  Bonus points if he finds a way to spin his fur into the yarn (or finds someone to do it for him.)  And it’s all kinds of crafts, too, from a huge painting he does with Allison of the view of the Preserve from Makeout Lookout Point that goes above the mantle at the new house, to macaroni art and finger painting with his youngest kids.  

Also, I feel like one year, maybe after most have gone off to college and sneaking is a bit easier, Malia badgers her siblings and other dads into finding whatever old baby/toddler clothes they might still have and helping her make them into a patchwork quilt for Peter since he had to miss so much (if not all) of that time with them.  Chris and Noah also throw in a couple of their shirts from high school; faded flannel and ratty band gear intermixing with brightly colored superhero logos an well worn sports jerseys, corduroy, and denim and a little bit of lace, in all colors of the rainbow from jewel tones to pastels.  She even leaves some room to add stuff from the later kids, because she knows they’re going to want more.  

Needless to say, there are a lot of tears (like, a LOT), and it instantly becomes his favorite for curling up in front of the TV, or out on the porch to watch the sunset, or just wherever, in whatever form.  It goes over so well they end up making another one with stuff donated from everyone in the pack so that it ends up huge and always comes out for movie nights and puppy piles.  (Wow, that idea kinda got away from me, but I ain’t even mad.)

Loving the descent into nsfw and related ideas.  Always here for those three teasing the ever-loving shit out of each other, because that’s just the way they are.  I feel like Chris and Noah are much more successful at pulling stunts in public, because they’re much better at faking innocence and making it seem accidental.  Lbr, Peter is terrible at looking innocent, even when he is.  

They both get so low-key annoyed that Peter’s werewolf healing means they can’t really leave much in the way of lasting marks, whereas Chris ends up with bruises and stubble burn in the most inconvenient and awkward places, and Noah seems forever doomed to look like he got attacked by an extremely aggressive push broom from the neck down.  

Oh god, Peter and Chris would totally rig anything that needed repair around the house so that it would only finally break when Noah was off so they could see him up a ladder changing light bulbs in a snug, worn t-shirt, or reaching underneath a sink or cabinet.  They just lean back and enjoy the show with a nice chilled drink.  He gets them back by conveniently being on shift whenever one of the kids moves back for a while and needs furniture moved.  

All the Omegas in the pack get extensive training in proper self defense, which leads to Peter getting banned from the premises because his expressions and scent while watching Noah and Chris spar to demonstrate creeps everyone else right tf out.  

I feel like Chris probably does a lot of the cooking, between having lived on his own the most and debatably being home the most.  So sometimes when they have the house to themselves Peter and Noah try to get Chris to cook wearing only an apron (frilly or not is up to you).  (Actually, depending on what share of the chores he takes on my brain just screamed out of nowhere FRENCH MAID’S OUTFIT and now I can’t stop laughing, oh god, I just keep picturing these terrible porny roleplays where the police officer is just checking in because there have been reports of break-ins and he “just wants to make sure all entrances and exits are properly secured” and of course the maid just wants to be helpful and fetches the master of the house[is he wearing a smoking jacket and silk pajamas? 

 I think the answer is obviously yes] to assist their “routine search"  [oh god, please help, I’m wheezing.])  I’m pretty sure somebody gets fucked on the washing machine (and by somebody I obviously mean both of them.  They go through a LOT of cleaner in that house, lbh.)  

And poor Stiles just will NOT let the Incident, as he calls it, go.  Whenever he’s irritated with one of them he’ll send them some variation of the "right in front of my salad” meme to be an asshole.  

They very definitely make sure that all the bedrooms have nicely soundproofed walls, because there are things none of the kids want to hear (except maybe Erica or Lydia).  Totally here for pet names/sweet nothings/dirty talk/whatev in a variety of languages, especially French and Polish, obvs.  (cue Gomez mode - “Why Chris, that’s French…”)  

And I do love that drag queen headcanon so much, especially for this ‘verse.  The Stiles and Jax better be careful or their dads might just be forced to prove how much they can still rock that look if they want to (I may or may not have had a running list/idea in my head of which outfit from a Lady Gaga video each parent would wear if they were all dressing to theme for some reason [I don’t really remember why.  You might have noticed my mind goes off on weird, unexplained tangents when left unattended.])

Love all the family bonding stuff.  I feel like Peter would totally organize back-to-school shopping trips for all the pack kids so that they can all head back with all their necessary supplies and rockin’ new wardrobes.  Chris teaches them camping and outdoor survival.  Noah somehow ends up organizing sing-a-longs when they have bonfires while Chris is in charge of s'mores ingredients (neither tries to make Peter or Derek join in if they aren’t feeling it, and take turns to go and check in with cuddles and support throughout the evening.)  

I always liked to headcanon that Noah was a drummer, mainly I think because Dylan is, so people usually made Stiles one, so I figured he might have learned from his dad.  This was also because I loved the idea of Stiles having everybody over for a Rock Band party and having his dad sub in for him on the drums so he could grab some food, and everyone being utterly astounded at how well he could play (since the drums seem the closest controller to the actual instrument.)  

But the idea of him and Malia playing duets together is super adorable, particularly the idea of them playing Polish lullabies for the twins (or Ben, or other Argent-Hale child), or Chris singing French ones for the little ones (or the dads could team up Three Men and a Baby style, I’m here for all of it, really.) 

 And all the wolfy goodness!  Wolf Peter just straight up flopping across one or both of his mates while they try to read or watch TV because he needs attention right now and wants to cuddle.  Chris scratching all the right places.  Noah using a variant of the healing magic to loosen all of Peter’s tensed muscles as he pets along his back and sides.  Good stuff.  (Occasionally Ben or one of the younger wolves, if there are any, will shift and climb up next to them to nuzzle at his face or gnaw on his tail.  Usually by then he’s so relaxed he doesn’t even mind.)  Using him as a bonus cushion when curling up together.  World’s Biggest Teddy Bear.  

And Jackson would totally take advantage of his cuteness.  He got Peter’s ruthlessness and Chris’s puppy-eyes skills.  The younger kids keep finding ways to work him into their Halloween costumes because he can somehow convince people to give them more candy even though “dogs can’t have chocolate…"  He doesn’t mind helping his baby siblings, and enjoys the chance to prove just how good he is.  

Malia is totally the one who’d just nope out of the conversation, but I think she’d also be the one to (most) help Ben develop his shifted skills and really feel comfortable in both forms.  

Poor Derek, he’s just like "I am not a goddamn herding dog, corral your kids!”, but he’s not fooling anybody and loves the way the twins just stare at him mesmerized and gently petting at his soft fluffy fur.  He absolutely lets them climb on him and ride around until they get too big to do it (then they just hang off his arms or piggy back whenever he visits.)

And that last flash-forward headcanon is so cute.  I feel like the spot should be on a porch swing, but given how much time I spent on my grandparents’, I’m probably a bit biased .  There’s a wind chime made of broken guitar strings and spare car parts (with a base carved by Stiles) that hangs nearby, ringing gently in the breeze as they sway.  They curl up under one of Peter and Malia’s quilts, legs tangled together, backs pressed up against pillows set up against the arms for support.  Peter sits on the steps, leaning on the banister, or maybe gently sprawled in a nearby matching chair, enjoying the view of his family and the quiet peacefulness of the moment. *insert reaction shot of Ghost Rider going “yessss- YESSSSS-” here*

Anyway, I’m glad your day was stupidity free, and I hope your cat is feeling calmer and well comforted.  And hopefully the weather cleared up there like it did here, though also hopefully without leaving as much humidity behind as we got.  Ah well, pretty much standard for summer around here, so.

Oh man I definitely got carried away a bit and no, there’s nothing wrong with that but I also idk, I’m not used to talking about something I love I guess. Especially not so freely with someone who’s really genuinely interested in hearing it.

Also idk what it is, probably fatigue and dyslexia in my add brain, but I have enormous trouble concentrating right now. So, I decided I would answer this submission before bed instead of writing. Well technically I’m writing now too, there’s that. Anyway...

Where was I? I feel like I just had an entire conversation in my brain and it’s already gone.

Okay, okay, Imma try to do this.

Chris is just, he’s a very scarred boy who’s very insecure. Noah will help him though and I hope it feels in character but fluff is coming.

And I really don’t have the focus to answer all of these headcanons but I love them, they made smile and giggle and they got me through hell today and I just. I really wish I had the brain capacity today to answer all of them.. Because yes to everything!

Do you know how hard it is to ask someone about their wifi connections when you’re reading about French Maid outfits and bad cop outfits and body cavity searches??? Do YOU??? 

It’s very hard and I had to try so hard not to laugh while guiding one lady through her ‘my remote is not working’ emergency.

And the quilt thing killed me, YEEEESSS. Omg I love your headcanons so much.

I also can’t stop picturing Peter as Gomez and Chris & Noah as Morticia. Also, Jackson is Wednesday and Stiles is Pugsley. I don’t make the rules.

Ughhh omg Idea for a pack run where they all go camping in the woods and Peter initiates a pack run, the first for Ben and Jackson. And they’re all wolfing out and Peter, with his red eyes, just howls up and everyone just howls with him. But Ben can’t keep up and just start hiccuping (This is what I  imagine Ben would look like anyway and it’s the cutest thing) and cuddles up to Chris because it’s all a bit much. 

So Peter comes over and gently nuzzles the cub until Ben’s wagging his tail again and being all playful. And that initiates a pack play session where Ben ‘takes down’ Peter and the other wolves just nip and bark around them playfully while Chris, Noah, Allison, and Stiles watch them with their cameras out and smiles on their faces.

The pack then takes off for a run and return ten minutes later all tuckered out, Ben’s held up by the scruff of his neck by Peter. Jackson is practically asleep on his paws and Malia is yawning by the time they get back. So they curl up with their respective twins and mates. Malia is curled around Stiles and Allison protectively curls around Jackson’s huge wolf form. Ben’s curled up in Chris’s lap, Chris and Noah are huddled together and Peter’s just curled around the three of them. Derek curls up with both sets of twins to keep them safe.

Full moons are extremely lively for this family.

And Derek is such a sucker for the pups in the pack. He keeps complaining and bitching, but honestly, he loves kids, he loves babies and he’s such a sucker for them. Ben, the twins, and the new baby just can do no wrong for him. He’ll keep corralling them and cuddling them when he gets the chance.

God, I love these threads so much, but I think I already said that. lol

Anyway, that’s what my brain has right now, but honestly, I love all of these. Every single one is precious.

okay. well today was okay. I woke up to my alarm bright and early at 6:30. checked the bus tracker app right away and saw one that should arrive at 7:03, perfect amount of time for me to get ready, grab breakfast, and walk to the bus stop. I made one of the microwave muffins but couldn’t finish before I had to head out and I couldn’t bring a spoon with me into the room and we didn’t have any plastic cutlery so I used my fingers for the rest of it 😂 oh well. So I left my apartment, leaving my phone and pretty much everything else behind me, just my wallet and some pencils. I got on the bus and headed north, a route I’ve taken before but I usually take it south, I have done it north before but never this far up. there were too many stops for me to copy down all of them, so I was paying apt attention to the names of the stops to make sure I didn’t miss it. Fortunately since it was a train station it was a fairly prominent stop. So we got there, it’s like 7:13 at this point, so making good time. I knew we would because everything’s deserted this early in the morning but I wanted to make sure to allot for extra time in case something went wrong and I’m essentially helpless to fix it. so I got on the purple line which goes into Evanston and continued heading north, got off six stops later and from there walked like .4 miles down a street to the Northwestern campus. The neighborhood was super cute, of course it was virtually empty save some cyclists and a few random people, so it appeared very tranquil, definitely different than the constant hustle and bustle of Chicago. I sometimes wish I taken advantage of my excellent grades more and gone to a college and/or law school that was more prominently ranked, but at the same time I know I probably only want that for bragging rights, which is a dumb reason to pick a school. but like, looking at the Northwestern campus and the prestige that came with it I’m just like....I kinda want that. and like, it’s not like I’m going into “big law” and need their name on my resume, I’m doing public interest where most of the lawyers working in this area are alums from my school. but I like the perception of being seen as the smartest of the smartest, really. and like, I don’t doubt that if I had really tried I could’ve done it. I almost got into Emory which is a top 20 school, I got waitlisted, but like if I was seriously pursuing a highly ranked school I know I could’ve been a lot more effort into studying for the LSAT and I bet I could improve my score by a solid 10 points which would put me in range for at least the schools ranked #5 and up (that would put me at 169, the top 4 want more like 173, our of 180) so I could’ve gotten into Northwestern. my undergrad GPA would still leave something to be desired due to the disaster that was my junior year but there’s really not much I can do about that. oh well. anyway. I got to the campus and easily found the building we were supposed to be in. There were a few students standing/sitting around outside, it was only about 7:40 at this point and the “report no later than” time wasn’t until 8:30, so we had time. I waited outside for a bit before going inside and waiting in there until we were told to start lining up. Once we were lined up, we got led through a very complicated path between like 3 other buildings to get to the place where we were actually taking the test (it was very weird) and I was like how am I gonna remember to get out of here?? lol. so we got to the classroom and they had one person doing the check ins verifying our ID with our admission ticket and giving us a seat, so that took quite a while. I may have a bit of a conundrum when to came to signing the admission ticket. we were specifically instructed to bring an ID with a signature on it, and I was supposed to sign the admission ticket while holding the ID next to it, presumably to see if the signatures matched. well, the signature on my driver’s license is from when I was 16, literally 10 years ago, and needless to say it’s kind of evolved from there so my current signature looks nothing like that, but I needed them to match so I did my best to copy the old one and did a decent job I think. the issue then came when we were seated and had our scantrons, and they wanted us to sign the academic integrity pledge or whatever about not cheating and I’m like fuck, my signature on this is gonna need to match my signature on the bar, so I used my normal one, and I didn’t think it would be an issue until they were like “okay we’re collecting the admission tickets now” at which point I was like WELL FUCK but there’s not much I can do about it now. sigh. It took them a while to get everything set up but we kicked off around 9:40, two hour test, 60 multiple choice questions. It wasn’t too bad, there were a handful of questions I was just straight up like “huh” on but I’m betting a good number of them were the experimental questions and they won’t count towards our final score, so that makes me feel better. I finished around 11:15 and was allowed to leave, once they get to the last 15 minutes if you finish you have to wait till the end to leave, so I wanted to get out of there before that. Getting back to the main road was a bit of a challenge, I met up with a few other people I kinda knew and found our way there. I found the bus stop, where all I could do was wait, with no indication of when/if a bus was coming (the buses are really notoriously unreliable) so that was making me kind of anxious but a bus did come in about 10 minutes or so. the ride back was nice, halfway through I switched back to the first bus I was on in the morning and took that the rest of the way home. my stomach had been killing me for pretty much the entirety of the test, cause unknown, so I just kinda flopped on my bed and laid there for a little bit. When I got up I decided to make a grilled cheese for lunch since I had supplies for it, and I made a very delicious grilled cheese. I sat for a while and did some editing of blog posts for my dad’s lawyer website, and took a look at the first chapter of the book my mother is apparently writing, she wanted me to read it and edit it, and also give my thoughts, so I did that for a bit. I had been meaning to bake something now that I have some free time, and when I made macarons a few weeks back I had halved the recipe but when I was prepping the dry ingredients, combining them all and then running them through a food processor, I didn't realize till afterwards that I didn’t halve the ingredients so I had twice as much as I needed, so I had enough for another half batch, so I figured I’d use that up. Prepping and such went pretty smoothly, the killer ended up being me apparently running out of parchment paper (since when does that happen???) so I had to just grease the pan which like I know isn’t what you’re supposed to do for macarons, so they didn’t really do the whole thing where they rise and have the different texture on the bottom, just kinda cooked into flat disks. but I mean, they still tasted good, so that’s *really* what matters. I let them cool down before using the last of my homemade vanilla buttercream to fill them and put them together. So despite a few minor issues I was fairly satisfied with them. Somewhere around after that I switched from the kitchen table to the couch and watched some tv. I started finishing the last episode of orange in the black I’m gonna watch for now, I may go back to it at some point, we’ll see. From there I finally got around to watching the first 3 episodes of season 3 of Wynonna Earp and, MAN, do I have FEELINGS. I of course was spoiled about Dolls dying, but I honestly think I would’ve been more upset if I didn’t know it was coming. I’m still pissed though because he was such a great character that added so much to their group dynamic, and I always preferred Wynonna/Dolls to Wynonna/Doc, so now that she's basically just with Doc by default kinda sucks. but I watched those few and then a few episodes of 30 Rock before heading to bed. It’s not that late yet but I’ve been up since 6:30 and my body is saying SLEEP NOW so I’m gonna listen to it and end this here. Goodnight my dears. Hope you had a banging Saturday.

No other coverage. Got quoted $285...seems kinda cheap to me considering im so young? Not complaining that i save money....just wondering if this sounds normal? Random insurance question, lets say im riding my bike and going at a good speed, say 45+mph. Then fall and completely eat ****. I injure and damage only myself and my bike. From Childhood Idols To Metalcore Money, Members of Varials Detail Their Start In Music

After just one listen to Varials’ brutal beatdown of a song “The New Damnation,” the blistering opener off their 11-track slobberknocker Pain Again, no one would probably expect the five band members to be a fun-loving group of guys looking to follow in their parents’ footsteps. 

See, in the hardcore community, rarely are you ever allowed to smile, make jokes or, god forbid, have a little fun. Usually when it comes to most "heavy” bands, fans expect artists to be a cold and rabid collection of dudes practically foaming at the mouth 24/7. 

Sure, on stage Varials are as brutal as they come. If you’re looking to blow off steam and let loose with a little slam dancing, the Philly five-piece is a solid choice. Offstage, however, vocalist Travis Tabron, guitarists Mitch Rogers and James Hohenwarter, bassist Mike Foley and drummer Sean Rauchut just like to enjoy themselves and write music showing off the musical abilities they inherited from their parents.

That’s another thing about the young upstart outfit. Unlike a lot of bands out there, a few of the members received their musical talents from their parents. Take Mitch, for example. His dad is a drummer and his mom is a singer who performed regularly while pregnant with him. Both of which actually helped push him towards teaching young guitar players in afterschool programs. Then there’s Travis. Like Mitch, he also has a father who likes drum beats -- drum beats that lean more on the hip-hop side of things since his dad is a rapper.             

Now as you can probably already tell, Varials isn’t your typical hardcore beatdown band. For that reason, we wanted to reach out and get to know the guys a little bit better and understand how they got started. To check out our in-depth interview with the band, be sure to see below. Where did you grow up? And was there a music scene where you grew up?

Travis Tabron (Vocals): I grew up in the Philadelphia area and there was always a music scene for most kinds of music.

Mitch Rogers (Guitar): Chalfont/Bucks County, PA. When I first started going to local shows the scene was so sick. There was a show every weekend. You could see bands like Balance And Composure or The Wonder Years at local churches or halls. I used to see so many insane bands at The Moose Lodge in Doylestown.

James Hohenwarter (Guitar): I grew up in North Wales, PA and I still live here! I was introduced to the local scene in about 2009, from there I met a lot of people (including the other guys) that I'm still good friends with today!

Sean Rauchut (Drums): I grew up in a small town in PA called North Wales. My dad always played in bands so I grew up going to see him and then found a local metalcore scene on my own. It was sick back then.

Mike Foley (Bass): I grew up in Audubon, Pennsylvania, a small suburb a little outside of Philadelphia. I started playing guitar when I was in 8th grade, about 13 years old, and instantly fell in love with playing music. I started going to shows when I was probably about 15 or 16 and the local scene was doing really well at that point. It's actually really funny, I remember seeing bands Sean, James and Travis were in at the time before I even knew any of them now here we are all together playing music.

What were you doing before Varials formed? 

TT: Making music in local bands or making music/beats by myself.

MR: I was actually touring with a different band and had been since I was nineteen. I joined Varials after I left that band last year.

JH: I was going to community college, when suddenly one day after school Sean had the idea to start the band, so we headed back to my house and recorded the first song!

SR: I always worked random jobs but I tried college for a semester and wrote the first Varials song on my first day. Then bombed out of all my classes and dropped out to pursue the band.

MF: Before Varials I was in school and playing in another band with Mitch. Me and Sean knew of each other but were never really super close at the time, then one day he messaged me asking to fill in a show for Varials (knowing my bass rig was POPPIN). At that point, I was like WOW that was sick and I think the rest of them felt the same way and they ended up asking me to join. Which ended up working perfectly cause my other band was kinda falling apart at the same time. So shortly after things start picking up more with Varials, I made the decision to drop out of school and pursue the band and start working full time instead. Parents were NOT happy at first haha.

Who or what influenced you to start playing music?

TT: I've always been playing music my whole life.

MR: Almost everyone in my family plays an instrument or sings, many have done it professionally for a long time. I grew up surrounded by music and going to see my parents or grandfather play gigs. I don't remember a time where I wasn't learning and playing an instrument. Musically, I still find my biggest influences for me more dreamy/shoegazy stuff and that's how I've always been.

JH: It honestly just sort of happened for me. I learned to appreciate music more after I started playing guitar.

SR: My dad for the most part. Also being around other kids at a young age who wanted to be musicians so I thought it would be cool if I got good at it haha.

MF: My dad was in a band when he was a teenager too and my grandfather was a great pianist but I'm the first of my family to take music more seriously.

Who’s the band(s) that got you into heavy music?

TT: Rage.

MR: Linkin Park, Coheed, and especially Slipknot. I remember seeing the video for "My Plague" on the DVD for the original Resident Evil movie and I was hooked.

JH: I want to say Chiodos, at least as the first band that I listened to that really had those screamo vocals, ya know?

SR: The bands that got me into heavy music were Slipknot and Chiodos.

MF: I started getting into heavy music around the same time I started playing music, some of the bands getting me into it being Rise Against and Linkin Park then eventually branching off into heavier stuff.

If you could collaborate with any artist of your choice who would it be?

TT: J Dilla

MR: Frank Ocean...or maybe Chino from Deftones...or Lil Uzi...That would be the hardest decision of my life.

JH: I'm not totally sure. Definitely someone who has nothing to do with heavy music.

SR:  I would love to collaborate on any style of music with Dave Grohl or Jack White.

What have you learned since being in the music industry?

TT: There's a lot more work that goes into making a record professionally than I expected.

MR: Don't let anyone knock you down. Do you and don't take anyone's bullshit.

JH: I always wanted to learn (and have) how things work behind the scenes, things that people don't see that build up to be the face of the band.

SR: I learned that it takes you from being in a band with your friends having pure fun to being a serious business. I focus more on business now then I do just writing sick songs haha.

Best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?

TT: The art of being tasteful - Josh Schroeder

MR: Don't always base your decisions off of pleasing others

JH: Don't tie yourself to one specific thing in the industry. Learn the ins and outs so that your career doesn't end if the band itself does.

SR:  I had a friend give me some pointers back then and I ended up accomplishing more than they did. It's kinda hilarious I had absolutely no idea what I was really doing. Just write good songs and market your band the right way. And don't forget to always have fun.

What does the future hold for Varials?

TT: Weirder music

MR: More tours, more music...hopefully play out of the US as soon as we can.

JH: Everything and everything!

SR: We're just gonna take this band to its fullest potential and ride the wave while we can.

MF: Pain Again has been getting great feedback and I can't wait to see what the upcoming year has in store. Touring outside of the country is high up there on the goal list for me for 2017/2018 so we’ll see if that happens.

What would you like to be remembered for? Musically or not.

TT: Lyricism and composition.

MR: I just hope one day when I'm dead people still listen to music my friends and I made. It's hard to actually leave something behind that lasts forever but music never dies so…

JH: My ways around things - my Macgyver-like resourcefulness.

SR: The kid who made sacrifices and went for what he wanted and accomplished it.

Better moment: Signing to Fearless, releasing Pain Again or seeing money printed with Travis’ face on it?

TT: Releasing Pain Again

MR: As much as I love the fake money...seeing the whole process from the outside and then joining was a little weird for me at first...but everything about making and releasing Pain Again made me feel like a real part of the band, so that for sure.

JH: Releasing Pain Again, it's an album I couldn't wait for everyone to hear!

SR: Definitely signing to Fearless haha.

MF: Getting signed to Fearless was such a huge achievement for me personally, and the band as a whole. [It’s] something I've dreamed of since being a young kid.

My love of films(Very long post with some rambling)

I am often asked why I love movies so much. I think everybody to some extent has an interest in watching a movie. Whether it’s at the theater, at home, wherever. I had a discussion with a friend recently about seeing movies at a theater. We talked about the first movie we saw, the great experiences we have had over the years. And it brought back some wonderful memories. The first film I saw was over 20 years ago. Toy Story. I will always have a love for this movie. Being not only the first, but easily one of the best, most memorable films enjoyed by many many people. I can still remember what is probably the first time I laughed in a theater. In an early scene of the 2nd movie I saw, Muppets Treasure Island, a character dies and Rizzo says “He died? And this is supposed to be a kid’s movie” I wasn’t even 3 years old and I was laughing so hard. To this day that remains one of my favorite lines. Speaking of the Muppets, I couldn’t tell you what year it was, but sometime when I was very small we were having Christmas at my grandma’s house. We sat and enjoyed The Muppets Christmas Carol together. A bunch of family was there. That will always be one of my favorite Christmas memories. My grandpa on my mom’s side showed me many classic films from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Meet Me In St. Louis, a bunch of Jimmy Stewart movies, The Wizard of Oz, the list goes on and on. My mom introduced me to some of her favorite comedies like The Jerk and The Man Who Knew Too Little. Both of those are now some of my favorites. A movie I had a great fondness for as a kid and now is Crocodile Dundee in LA. I would assume it’s probably nothing like the previous movies, I don’t know if people really have memories of it but I found it to be hilarious. From the Wendys scene, to the Hollywood tour, even the cow scene gets me every time. Another memory that just popped into my head was my mom and I after we had just moved in to our new house walked up to see Christopher Guest’s Best In Show. For several years we would go see all of his new movies. Some brilliant writing, acting, music. Many people know this but for 3 ½ years I worked at a movie theater. The last year I was the projectionist. While I ultimately left for some valid reasons, and I have no desire to go back there, when “it was good” I had a blast. The city I was working in had and has little to offer in the sense of entertainment and as such was a gathering place of people mostly from the city itself and the surrounding communities. Something I truly did love was seeing people enjoying themselves and having a great theater experience. One of the things I strived to do from being a crew member to being the projectionist was to give people the best time I could. I have so many memories of my time there. Early on I got to see one of my favorite books in a movie form. The Great Gatsby. Many of my favorite film experiences happened while working there. There’s too many movies I saw while working there to count but I’ll pick some highlights. Pacific Rim was one of the funnest movies I’ve seen. Just sitting back and watching an intense film like that with tons of friends was great. Guillermo Del Toro is one of my heroes. Seeing claymation movies like The Boxtrolls and Shaun The Sheep. A rare time we got a foreign movie, The Grandmaster, was excellent. Seeing the last 2 Hobbit movies. Kingsmen was unbelievably good. The Butler takes you on a long cinematic journey. Mad Max Fury Road was an edge of your seat thrill ride and in my opinion a must see experience. The Peanuts Movie was such a pleasant surprise. While they’ve kinda fallen off the radar now, seeing movies like The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Maze Runner, The Giver. A boatload of Marvel movies. The Lego Movie was brilliant. Birdman was great. Godzilla was better than probably anyone thought it would be. Of course Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The unbelievably successful Frozen. Getting to see a Hayao Miyazaki film. The original Ghostbusters had a re release. While not at the theater I worked at, seeing Tron on 35mm. I could go on for a long time. Bizarrely enough for a couple years before working at the theater I didn’t particularly go to theaters all that often. I still would go see movies that I wanted to but per year I would see maybe 15-20 movies. One of the aspects about the theater I loved, obviously was being able to see movies for free. It really opened my eyes to all sorts of movies. There really was no “risk” Over the last decade or so I’ve become quite interested in the Golden Age of Hollywood. Silent films I’ll admit are definitely an acquired taste. But everytime a lost film, which are typically silent or early talkies are found I get really excited. While I’m still new to silent movies, one of the greatest silent movies in my opinion is The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Which brings me to an aspect of movies that as an adult I’ve really started to appreciate. Now of course good acting, a good script are necessities. Without that, even the best films feel lacking. But some of the unsung heroes of the motion picture industry are cinematographers. The amount of creativity I’ve seen ranging from early films like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari up until the modern day is fantastic. Good cinematography can enhance the storytelling of a film and also create an atmosphere. I love that feeling of being taken into a world and admiring it. That’s one of the many reasons I consider films as a work of art. Like art, everybody gets something different out of it. With advancements in technology even well integrated CGI can make for some expansive, impressive worlds. A brief sidenote: I love watching movies in historic theaters and drive ins. There’s not many left but it’s always a unique, memorable experience. I would like to briefly reference one of my favorite films, Tron. Visually wonderful with a strong story, it is, in my eyes, an underrated classic. Last summer I did 2 separate marathons of Bela Lugosi movies. That sense of discovering those classic films is a fond memory. Being able to share that with the people I love was great. I’ve talked in great length on why I think he’s one of acting’s finest but in short he always gave 100% no matter the quality of the film. His commanding presence and suave elegance captivated audiences. My 2 Bela Lugosi marathons inspired me to take on one of the biggest projects I’ve done to date. In previous years I made things like a punk jacket, vest, messenger bag. This year’s project was what I call “365 Movies In 365 Days” while I’m fairly behind I’ve still watch around 75 films so far. I’ll admit it is a lot, it’s very time consuming, but it is so worth it. Something I hope to accomplish in my lifetime is bringing joy to people and being able to share my passion. I think this is true about anything in life, while it can be fun to do things on your own, when you can do it with the people in your life, it makes it far more enjoyable and can mean more. One day I would love to visit Hollywood. Besides paying my respects to some of my favorite actors and actresses I’d like to visit locations where movies were filmed, see museums, etc. My aspirations of being an actor are still there although I haven’t acted in years. When I have though I’ve really enjoyed performing. The likelihood of that ever happening I don’t know. I honestly love it all and even just to be involved in any aspect of a movie would be a dream come true. Some wise people have told me,and this is true, never give up on yourself, your dreams. The future can hold many surprises. At this time I would like to say a thank you to everyone involved, past, present and future in making movies. And thank you for letting me share my love, my passion, my story with all of you. It’s a nice feeling that there are still movies worth seeing and unbelievable amounts of films to watch.
