so i'm cleaning up my google drive to make some space & came across some poetry from when i was in high school & oh my god. its not bad or anything, just the change in my writing style is so wildly different. there's at least one of them i wish i had context for tho. like i can only assume it was written in response to a piece of media i'd seen or read recently but i cannot for the life of me figure out what

I know that vampire chronicles aren't meant to be historical accurate. Like you read this and you know that all this events can happen in literally any time and space. Like really. The times doesn't really matter there, there are no nuances.

Listen, I'm not a historian, by any means. It's just like a hobby, but I have millions of them so I don't even learn that much.

Also I usually don't give a shit about accuracy in media, like whatever, until it's science do what you want, whatever suits your story

But sometimes it's time to say enough is enough.

So, we need to talk about Armands origin in Kievan Rus'. Okay, that's cool, we don't really explore it, but well whatever, at least we're not messing this up, right? Right?

While I was reading I ignored it. I was reading TVA in polish translation I thought like okay, names and nuances probably got lost in translation. It's a really bad translation tho.

But out of curiosity today I opened the book in English, because this was sticking in my head.

And it appears it wasn't translators fault.

So well, it's like kinda huge mistake. Like no one really checked it? But this book constantly claims that like Kievan Rus' was then in Russia. And suprise, suprise: that's simply not true. Well the term is kinda not right and can mean anything, like back it existed as state it was huge, but (judging on the mention of Kiev itself) that it was like somewhere in that area.

So I'll spare whole history, it's not relevant. We're stop around 1480's, when Armand was born (based on my calculations). And in that time the region was called Kiev Voivodeship (hope I got it right in english), and it was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and stayed there until 1569, when it passed to the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland (when the Polish-lithuanian commonwealth was created, but both countries were in union since early XV century)

So in the book we have some lines like this

Armand, bestie, I don't know how to break it to you, you're not russian. You never were. You've never lived in Russia (or back then I would use rather the name Moscow, but again I'm not a historian). More of a Ukrainian if so, but also not the world I would use. Most accurate would be rusyn (I think, or ruthenian???? I'm not sure how it works in English, anyway not russian).

Then we have this, and well... Oh boy. Something went really wrong with geography here. First of all, you've never been to Russia (or better say Principality of Moscow, like it wasn't even called Russia, from what I know, but i might be wrong).

So okay, Moscow and Novgorod were in part of Moscow indeed but Cracow!?!?!?? (Known also as my absolutely favourite city in the world). Like Cracow like Never ever has been a part of Russia. Okay, I get confusion with Kiev if you really really don't care about basic research. But Cracow???

Here's the map. Unfortunately it like administrative of Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth in 1619, but well you'll see my point. That doesn't make any sense

Cracow always was polish. Like it's our second capital. And look how far from Russia it is. Even during the partitions it goes to Austria not Russia.

Last thing I want to point out is this one

Like, man, maybe you speak russian, I do not doubt, like during travel to Moscow you could learn I guess.

I'm not entirely sure, but I guess the language there is ruthenian not russian. Like ruthenian is old language which is base for slavic languages such as Belarusian or Ukrainian. And what is also important it was not the language used in the Principality of Moscow, so it's definitely not russian.

Okay, thanks for reading if anyone is still there. I won't bore you any longer. It just was sitting in my head and I had to throw it out because we'll, basic research I guess.

Notes: hey again bestie… i see u. i have our dms about the man n u frothing btw. Also. ik absolutely nothing about guns n stuff so uh. oop ig… also. i made the reader like. kinda techy n speak some russian? i was listening 2 gore by graveyardguy as i wrote this just so u know. Didn’t influence much of the thing but the title is definitely from the song.

You hum as you clean your sniper rifle; the disassembled piece of metal all over your lap. Usually, you would be around a table or even in your own assigned room. However, today they had a mandatory room check. While you didn’t mind it, having all the tables and sitting areas taken out in the cafeteria as well as the shooting range didn’t help. This leads to you sitting underneath a small pine. It’s fairly young, being only large enough to cast enough of a shadow to give you cover from the sun.

While you don’t mind cleaning your gun, making sure your laptop was in better shape or needed to be put back together was more interesting. While you’ve done it a hundred times before, for you, it never got old. You enjoyed taking apart the electronic gadgets and putting them back together. Seeing how they work and even improving them intrigued you more than going out on the field and sending bullets people’s way to splatter their blood everywhere. The missions they assign you in KorTac have been nothing but boring or a pain. You’ve never actually trained for this part or even with the rifle at all. You are more of someone who hacks cameras, reads coding to try and find anything that could give enemies away, and even disarm some bombs via the tech you have on hand during said times.

Now, while it’s not something you prefer doing, you can’t help but enjoy at least one of your members. König, or King as many call him, is your favourite man. Despite his awkward social interactions, he’s never been particularly rude to you. Nor has the giant Austrian ever tried to get on your nerves. He keeps to himself mostly, leading to you having to seek him out if you want company. Sometimes he’s out and about, though he’s either alone or towering over the other soldiers.

Of course, that doesn't mean he’s not deadly. You’ve seen him out on the field. He’s truly a rampaging beast. He picks up enemy soldiers and cracks their backs over his knee. He’ll gun them down or snipe them, giving a laugh or giggle. He’ll yell out in a happy tone “I have some cash!” whenever he gets his hands on even a single coin. He’s wilder and more brutal. And you couldn’t help but notice. However, despite noticing it, you didn’t treat the man any differently.

A large pair of military-issued boots appear in front of your crisscrossed legs. Looking up, you see the man you’ve been thinking of as you cleaned the barrel of your gun. “Ah. König,” You say, giving him a small smile. “Привет! How has my favourite man been?” König’s hands are loosely holding each other, nearly touching his stomach with his chosen position.

“Ah… Ich meine, es lief gut…” He says, looking uncomfortable standing there. You gesture to the ground next to you, letting him know that he can sit beside you. With confirmation now obtained, König lets himself fall into a seated position right next to you. He ends up knocking his knee into your thigh; you wince at the sharp pain but laugh it off.

“I’m so sorry..! I did not mean to hit you. Bitte vergib mir!” The large man starts to apologize immediately, already beating himself up over the accidental touch. You wave him off, trying to make your smile softer to try and reassure the Austrian.

“ нет, нет! Все хорошо, ты в порядке!” Your words seem to calm him down a bit, despite him not exactly understanding your words. “Besides, König, I say you’re sharp as a knife but Soft To The Core.” You’re not sure why, but the words felt right to say.

“Ja? Well… They do say beauty is on the inside, Freund,” He tells you; a nearly inaudible chuckle escapes him. You feel another smile pull at your lips at his words.

“They sure do, мой возлюбленный. They sure do.” You mumble. With some silence between the two of you, it’s easy to hear the shout of one of your captains letting you all know that the mandatory room clearance has been finished. You playfully smack König’s shoulder, clasping it as you stand. “Let’s go back, да?” When he gives you a nod, you shove your gun parts into the duffle bag you brought just for it. “Let’s go then! Maybe we can grab some food once these bozos clear out.” With those last words, you take the lead, König following behind you quietly and with genuine happiness shining in his eyes.

“So yeah… we kissed and now we’re going out.” You say to your friends.

They just stare at you in awe. One of them speaks up.

“S—so you’re telling me. We took you somewhere you hate and you bagged a baddie like her for being a complete pussy…?!?!” One of your friends said and the others just nodded in agreement.

“Well I mean— yeah I guess that’s what happened.” You then scratch the back of your neck and your friends just chuckle and giggle.

“Woah you’ve really outdone yourself this time…”

You and your friends continue talking about Ellie for a few moments until she texts you telling you she’s outside.

“Ah! She’s here, I’ll see you guys later. She told me she was gonna give me a tour of some of the stuff. Well, wish me luck, 'cause it’s basically a date..!”

Your friends wave goodbye and you head outside. You and Ellie had been friends for about 4 weeks before you two started dating and now it had been about 2 since you guys began dating. Everything has been good so far, and you two just clicked. Ellie was so passionate about everything she liked, just like you. She didn’t judge you either, not for music taste, fashion sense, or anything. You had decided to wear a cute outfit for her. Cute bottoms and a nice top.. you even picked out this shirt because it was her favorite color.

You step into her beaten-down truck. She told you that this truck used to be her old man’s and that he and her liked to fix it up together.

“Hey beautiful,” Ellie says as she kisses your cheek, she was always such a gentlewoman. “You look good… very cute.”

“You think? I wanted to look cute for you..” you said with a tiny smile appearing. Ellie always knew how to give you butterflies.

“I know so, nowwww… let’s get a move on hm?” Ellie then starts up her old rustic truck and you guys drive to her work.

“Sooo Ellie, how does this work? You just gonna sneak me in the back?” You chuckle and she rolls her eyes.

“No baby girl, I don’t have work till 6. I just have some employee bonuses, you know since I’m the manager.” Ellie laughs and you guys pull into a parking structure special to employees.

“Wow. I’ve never been over here!”

“Well of course you haven’t dumbass.” You scoff at Ellie and you guys get out of her truck.

Ellie takes you in and you guys scan the tickets she has from working here.

“Soooo where to first?” You ask her holding her hand.

“I’ll show you some cool stuff from my Job.”

Throughout the first few hours, Ellie takes you around through back ways and helps you understand ways to get to certain rides within good time. She then stops with the whole tour and wants you guys to enjoy the day.

“Okay, so what ride do you wanna ride?” Ellie says holding your hand as you guys walk on the upper lot.

“Well, I don’t think I’ll be able to ride this ride here..” you tell her with a sly grin and, Ellie turns to look at you looking confused.

“What is it, not a ride that’s from this amusement park?” She laughs and is still oblivious to the dirty joke you told her.

“Ellie I meant— never mind…” you roll your eyes and the joke finally clicks in her head.

“Oh— oh! You meant.. ah— good one…” Her face flushes and she feels the heat in her face rise.

You then begin laughing at her and she feels like an idiot. You couldn’t help but smile at her embarrassed look.. the way she laughs and her face brightens up… it just makes you want more and more of that look. You guys begin to walk over to the Harry Potter section. Ellie told you that was her favorite..

“Jeez, it’s cold…” you mutter out, arms wrapped around yourself to keep you warm.

“Oh, you’re cold? Here..” Ellie then begins removing her zip up revealing a cute sweater. “I don’t get cold easily, I just like wearing jackets.” She then puts the jacket on your shoulders and you slide into it.

“Thanks, elles… you’re so sweet…” you then lean over and kiss her cheek, having her face brighten up.

“Ah, it’s nothing— just taking care of my girl…!”

Her girl? She’s such a dork… You guys walk over to one of the street sells men and get 2 butterbeers.

“Mmm, I love these! They were always my favorite as a kid…” You smile at Ellie and she chuckles.

“Yeah, you told me you used to come here often as a kid right? Well, I’m glad I can bring back the nostalgia for a good price! Gotta love employee perks huh?” She shoves you a little with her body and you roll your eyes.

Ellie and you go on with your date until it’s time for her to get ready. She takes you to the place in the back where she usually gets ready for horror nights.

“Sooooo, what look are you gonna do tonight?” You ask sitting on a chair near her.

“Uhh, probably just the normal one why?”

“I don’t know I wanted to see if you were gonna mix it up..” Ellie then turns to look at you and chuckles.

“Well we don’t usually mix it up, plus I’m not good at makeup so I usually just keep it plain Jane.”

You nod and watch Ellie get into her ‘costume’ which was really just pants, a tank top, messy hair, (which she didn’t need to do anyways…) blood, and fake cuts. While she was doing the makeup you just sat there on your phone. You don’t even realize that Ellie is picking out props and stuff. Once you look up you realize how.. how hot she looks like this?! I mean yeah you’ve seen her in ‘costume’ like 2 times, but never when she was your girlfriend. And damn were you glad this woman was.

“Uhh hey, you gotta a little drool there.” Ellie jokes as she realizes you’ve been staring at her maybe a bit too long.

“Oh uh heh— yeah…”

“Hey so I forgot to ask, what are you doing for Halloween?” Ellie asks as she continues looking through the props. The question almost goes completely over your head due to how you were eyeing her.

“Uhh I don’t know, usually ever since I started college I’d just go to my parents and pass candy with them.”

“…really..? God you’re a loser.” She laughs and shakes her head as she grabs a fake axe from her prop box. “Hmm yeah it feels like an axe night tonight—“

“I am not a loser! But why did you wanna know if I was free?” You then stand up and flick her forehead.

“Ow! Hey! Uh— I wanted to know cuz my friends are having a party that night.” Ellie rubs where you flicked and shoves you.

You end up shoving her back and she shoves you onto a couch in the corner of the room.

“Uh—“ you freeze looking at her. “Y—you said a party…” you try and distract her from the odd position you two are in.

“Y—yeah.. Dina and Jesse are gonna host it..” Ellie swallows and clears her throat.

“Y—yeah I’ll go… Well, what are you gonna wear?”

“Not sure… probably gonna be a werewolf.” She then adjusts herself on top of you.

Ellie was straddling your lap and you were sitting back on the couch, in the makeup room. You and Ellie haven’t been this close yet… it was new. You didn’t want her to get up though… she looked so pretty on you. Like a goddess that was made just for you.. how did you get this lucky?

“Maybe you should just go like this..” your hands travel up her sides, sending shivers down her body and the blood to her cheeks.

“You mean in my work attire? Yeah no thanks.”

“Aww, but you look so sexy…”

“Sexy?!? Do you have like weird attractions I should be worried about?” Ellie tries to hide her blush through a laugh.

“Oh haha. I’m sorry you just look good… your shift doesn’t start for another 20 minutes.. how about we have some fun?” You then lean closer to her lips and she leans down a little bit.

“Guess we do have time to kill..” Ellie replies as she leans down to your face kissing you passionately.

You groan into the kiss, your tongues dancing together. Ellie’s hips begin grinding into yours. Her hands grip your waist and travel under your shirt and they stop at your bra.

“Is this okay..?” She asks before her hands go under.

You nod as a reply, and she instantly moves her hands under groping your boobs and toying with your nipples. Pulling and pinching them between her thumb and index fingers.

“Fuck.” You moan out as you nibble her neck. Not caring if you leave hickeys for everyone to see.

A few more moments of this goes on until Ellie’s phone rings.

“Shit hold on babe.” She then removes her hands and picks up her phone as you pull your lips away from her, resting your hands on her hips. “Yeah? … ugh okay … be out in a sec, okay bye. It’s Jesse.”

“Let me guess gotta go?”

“Yeah, but hey. You can wait in here for me? Just don’t play without me.” She winks and you feel your face heat up.

“Whatever idiot.” You say with a laugh.

Ellie pulls herself off of you and she kisses your forehead. As she leaves the room your mind begins to wander. God you felt as if you were already falling in love with her. And damn were you looking forward to that Halloween party now.

"My thoughts are of Elias for two days straight." WHO thinks for someone for 48 straight hours without being DOWN HOMICIDAL for them???? Shit was light work for Rorke. He could think of Elias for three months straight (even asleep) and not break a sweat.

AND YEAH VERY MUCH DECLARED THAT RORKE IS THE REASON RILEY IS THERE. And Elias is SO GAY for listening to that motherfucker going "Retire and get a German Shepherd." tho he kinda changed it up giving Riley to the boys.

Ik Elias was HEATED when Rorke came back too, specifically over the dog thing. "You die so I get a dog because you're dead and it's in your memory and shit AND YOU'RE ALIVE?!?! AND YOU DIDN'T CALL ME?!" the plane over the Yucatan was TENSE and I'd pay to be a fly on the wall watching this divorce court go down.

Also how funny would it be if Hesh was like "Okay cool that we have a dog but idk what to name him! Any ideas dad?" and Elias doesn't even think before going "How about an R name?" and Hesh is like "Awesome! Okay I'll make a list." (Rorke was on there and Elias started foaming at the mouth)

Duck Comic Reading Club Week 7: Paperinik New Adventures: Earthquake

Ok, let's get to the point, this issue is the best one yet. An amazing story and a gorgeous art combined.

Oh God, the art. The Francesco Guerrini work here is astonishing. The use of the colors is masterful. Brilliant in every aspect.

This week story start with an earthquake on Duckburg. No major disaster occurred, except for good old uncle Scrooge.

Why do you insurance your oil rig with your own insurance company?

I mean, I got that he didn't have to pay himself the quota for the service, but now you have to pay for the damages. So, stop complaining you crazy old bird.

But One found out something fishy about the earthquakes, and is up to Donald to investigate this. Is so funny that Duckburg is Paperopoli in italian. Is better than Patolandia tho.

PK took one of the many vehicles at the Tower, and went for a ride, super hero style.

This page is a piece of beauty.

We got a new character, Mary Ann Flagstarr, a PBI agent. Tough lady.

PK had had encounters with the police, but now, he faced federal agents. My boy is not making any friends.

But, you know? A vigilante, a superhero, can't work with the authority. So, yeah, go get them PK.

Another new character, Professor Morgan Fairfax. What a nice fella, I'm sure he has never done anything wrong in his life.

One knows something is not right, they need to keep investigating. But now, is time to go back to the world of cyber space.

Another beautiful page, this issue can't miss.

But is hard to step into a federal database without anyone noticing, so they got caught. Thankfully, One was one step ahead and got himself a great scapegoat.

Oh, now you don't like spread misinformation, right jerk?

He didn't face any charge, and, to be fair, he was innocent. But, if being ugly was a crime, he would get the chair.

Back to the Professor, and he's making some really evil looking smirks. Could it be that he's not the nice guy that we though?

PK infiltrates in the building, using some advance tech. One is a cheat code, and here's being used at his fullness.

PK had a weird Donald moment, when he stuck in the vent, fall to the ground, and got face to face with the worst security guard ever.

Hey, masked vigilante sneaked in this government facility that I supposed to be looking after. I'm gonna make some lame jokes, and then I'm gonna miss the shots less than a meter away.

Don't come in the morning pal.

You know? I'm starting to think that this guy Fairfax is not that nice.

Yeah, yeah, he's the bad guy. Trying to burn PK alive is in my Being Bad Bingo.

And yet another absolutely gorgeous page. Is amazing.

Thankfully, One and his infinite tech come to the rescue. PK also save the guard, because he's a hero.

Now, this one part was kinda weird. Agent Flagstarr has been shown trough the issue as tough, focus agent, that wants to get the job done. But, a few words of Fairfax and a gift are enough to make her dismiss orders.

Also, that face… you can't trust someone with that face…

Now we found about Fairfax plan. He wants to create a earthquake strong enough that the whole planet would change, and new land would appear.

At the cost of the entire west coast being destroyed.

The worst part? One agrees with him. What the hell man? Not cool One, not cool.

PK got in the plane and try to stop Fairfax, but Flagstarr was in his way. The agent was conflicted on what to do. Madam, help the guy who doesn't want to destroy the whole west coast. Is not that hard.

Man, the art on this issue is out of control.

PK is so cool.

Finally, One got a change of heart, if you can said that, and helped PK to stop this madness. I knew One wasn't a psychopath.

But that last image of the device at the bottom of the sea is quite unsettling.

What can I said? This was awesome. I love all the detective PK stuff, the danger was palpable, One almost got Duckburg destroy. The art was magnificent, the colors were vibrant, it looked beautiful in general.

Hands down, the best one yet.

Maxo’s End of Stream Key Points.

Where he talks about his character, what it means to be dead in the QSMP, and what could probably happen in the future!

The only thing the federation couldn’t control was me; how I die.

Chat: “You can return to QSMP as a ghost!” Yeah, I’m gonna think about it…

I feel a bit upset because I wanted to reach the ship and say my goodbyes to everyone. I wouldn’t get on the boat tho.

Chat: “Cellbit, Mouse and BBH didn’t make it either.” The only thing I know is I’m dead, and that’s what I want for my lore.

I don’t have anything scripted (for the future). I’m gonna miss QSMP, but because I take rp too seriously, there’s no turning back. Yeah, I can maybe go back as a ghost and haunt people, but not as Cubito Maxo.

The rest may survive because they want to keep playing QSMP, but I say my character is dead and he’s dead because he died in an explosion. If dying means not being able to return to QSMP, it’s fine.

Going out without saying goodbye is what makes me mostly upset. (Reads chat) Do a tape? As if I did it a long time ago? I didn’t thought about that. That’s a good idea. I’m gonna ask the Admins.

I would’ve liked to do the tapes these last days, but I wasn’t thinking of committing suicide before. I didn’t know what was going to happen. (The only thing I knew) was that my character was desperate.

Dono: It would be cool if you could return as an old island survivor who helps the others to- That’s something I don’t get to decide, this is not my series. I can offer it, but that doesn’t mean it fits. I can’t go and say ‘I’m gonna return as a survivor’ because it doesn’t mean it can fit (in the story).

For the Federation to take the bomb away from me and me dying is a way to show how powerful it can be. This kind of thing is necessary in roleplay.

There’s people who liked Purgatory, but I don’t like when I have to gain points. My thing is roleplay. Purgatory was full hardcore, and it’s tiring for me to farm points. When Aypierre killed me for rp reasons, I was like, ‘look what you’ve done all because of some points’ (I think he’s referring to the other players having a discussion because of his dead)

If my character had to kill BBH… (groans) I can’t, he’s my friend. I can’t switch my mind because of some points. It didn’t fit me or my character and that’s why I didn’t log in. I was going to get frustrated eventually.

If I went through the island saying ‘don’t kill, don’t kill’, they’re going to say ‘look at this hippie mf smoking weed’.

(Reads chat) What do you mean Purgatory 2? I can’t believe it. At least we are dead (laughs). I prefer the other island.

There’s something lore related that I’m really happy about; Quackity accepting he works for the Federation. I mean– everyone suspected it, but there was people still denying it.

(While laughing) Dude, I took the detonator out and no one listened. I mean, yes, there was people roleplaying and asking me what was it. But it was bad timing, there’re too many interactions. Improvising is hard because not everything is perfectly done as in your head. But I was trying to tell them that I had a bomb, but it the end they stole my bomb’s wi-fi.

Tbh, I was already tired of Minecraft. I played almost every day in the QSMP, I needed a rest. In a way, it’s sorta like vacations, only that I can’t return as Maxo Cubito. I will have to return as Maxo Ritual Challenge or Maxo Mutation Zombie. I think I would have a better time with that kinda role.

I find interesting the ending, I liked it.

I will make some tapes, so they realize I’m dead and wanted to say goodbye to them.

There’s people happy about my dead because they don’t like QSMP, but honestly, QSMP is really entertaining, it’s really fun, and behind it there’s really cool people. Every time I logged on I was always laughing. Things didn’t go my way, it was catastrophic, but as a roleplayer, I have to accept what is put in front of me.

The night is young. Even though there are tribulations like my dead, we have to overcome things, move forward and enjoy life. Who knows when I’ll play Minecraft again. Maybe tomorrow, maybe never- no, no never (tries to not laugh). No never. Maybe within a year. Maybe in two. But one day I will return.

how do you write. (specifically fics)

i have like some ideas currently but i havent brought myself to write anything yet at all 😭

also any tips/advice you find helpful would be cool too

First of all, I tend to write everything on my phone in a writing app, bc I'm not about that Laptop life, but otherwise, uh, I'll throw this into two categories--

Oneshots: generally for one shots I get beamed with an idea and immediately go Yap about it, either on my server or with one or two specific people that I know will help me develop it via feedback :3

then, I generally jot down a synopsis of what I have so far and random little ideas of what I want to include, usually so I can return later and know wtf I was thinking to do next. I have a good few WIPs where I didn't end up doing that, and guess who doesn't know how to continue them now, so yeah, always do AT LEAST a brief little synopsis. Also goes for multi chapter fics, ofc. They also don't have to be serious or anything, like, this was the thing up top for my mind jekyon fic:

Very silly, but it gets the whole idea and big points across.

Multichapter fics: okay, this one's,,, a decent bit different, mainly bc I have my girlfriend (who also edits my stuff) plotting things for A Little Identity bc I'm actually really bad at plotting and pacing longer stuff.

I usually go to her with ideas and future plans and she'll dive deeper into the ideas I have for the next chapter I need to write so I have more guidance, makes things much easier for me, bc I get stuck less.

But, this could also probably be substituted once more by must talking with someone you think could help you develop it. Feedback and extra ideas are a writer's best friend! Go yap about your ideas! Especially with someone you know will bounce ideas back with you!

Motivation to write tho,,,, I have a few things.

-listening to a playlist or songs that remind you of a character or certain scenario you wanna write about. I have a character playlist for each of my tgs OCs, and then one for A Little Identity in general, and there are a few songs I straight up associate with future chapters that I can't even talk about yet. They form a whole little scene in my head, and having that makes it much easier to write it. Additionally, when I maybe get stuck with characterization, I'll go listen to that specific characters playlist. Music is your best friend! I've gotten beamed MANY ideas from songs, at random sometimes too.

-do a sprint with sprinto! It's a discord bot that gives you a 15 minute timer and takes your starting and ending word count and calculates it, ranking it against anyone else who did the sprint with you. It's very good for more competitive people, and it's a very nice thing to have on a server. I've seen it get people out of a writer's block on my server, so it's certainly nice to use.

-let the writing drive come to you. I won't lie, most days just aren't writing days for me. The English language will allude me, I'll get stuck on where I want to go next, dialogue will destroy me, etc.

I think writing is just kinda like that sometimes, so just write what you can when you can! If you have a main fic you feel you need to update but also a bunch of little oneshots, then work on whatever you feel the drive to! There's no point in trying to force yourself to work on one thing when you have a bunch of ideas for another thing-- the most important thing is that you wrote in general.

The time will come when you get the motivation and ideas for that other thing, so just do what you can when you can, writing is writing :3

-reread what you've already written, or if it's a fanfic, reread/watch the source material. I can't tell you the number of times rereading all of Lanyon's lore pages has given me new ideas with Elias, as well as just reading through old stuff or incomplete oneshots that have my OCs and such. Sometimes you just need a refresher!

-read other fics. This generally helps see how other people format things, which can sometimes help when you're struggling. Sometimes I'll also search for stuff that has specific things that I don't know how to describe very well.

Hi! Black Velveteer here to give my thoughts on your question wrt your character casually using the n-word. Now I don't speak for all black people, and this is just my own opinion, so don't take it as fact and others might disagree, but tbt......basically, like, it depends? You definitely need to keep some things in mind when you're writing for that, like situational context, their age and personal background, present company etc. Like there is a strong class and generational divide with AAVE and other black dialects in general that effects that kinda thing.

For example, I know most older black folk and those who consider themselves educated or more upper class don't like or even won't use the n-word at all - not to family or friends, and especially not in "polite" company. You don't stand in God's house talking like that, for example lmao. If your black character was raised like this or by family like this, the chance of them using the n-word even casually is pretty much none. They would get smacked otherwise lmao. Like they miiiight, but def not around any of their folks, and probs only under the influence of close friends who do say it a lot or use it like that. You tend to pick up the verbal ticks of people you love or spend a lot of time around.

Now with younger folk, it can be different. If your character is younger and more influenced by their friends/pop culture, they would be more prone to using the n-word more casually. Using it to look and sound tough or cool - to fit in where older black folk just won't do that. Being raised in a city or in the hood or being part of or from other communities like that where AAVE is more prone to thrive would make them saying the n-word casually more likely. They would still get popped if they talked like that if front of their mommas tho, or at the family dinner table, but around friends it would be cool.

Also code switching. Think of it like putting on and talking off a verbal mask. Like I've been getting at above, you act different around family and friends than you do around your coworkers of teachers. It's the same wrt using the n-word. Mostly unless its posturing or a deeply ingrained verbal habit from how and where you were raised (or a combo of the two), black people aren't gonna talk that way around someone or a group of someones unless we trust you. Non-black folk tend to have negative or uncomfortable reactions to the use of AAVE around them, and especially the n-word. Also we tend to elevate our speech around non-black people (and sometimes even other black people, like in a work or college setting) because we don't want to come across as "uneducated" or stuff like that, both because of stereotyping, and because black dialects are very stigmatized - often even among our own. It's the classism, and maybe even some other internalized stuff - antiblackness, racism.

Personality is also a factor. Like, some people might "escape the hood" and start talking "bougie," but will return home and code switch back to old habits and speech patterns when seeing their friends, including casual use of the n-word. Others might insist on keep talking that way and look down on their old friends for speaking like that still. Again, it's the internalized -isms<3

But yeah. That's not everything, and a probs could have worded some things better or different; but just some things to consider when writing for your black character(s?). And again, I'm only one black girl and I don't speak for us all. Some might say don't do it at all; but I say sure, as long as you do your research, and maybe also consider having a black person beta read your dialogue. Look into AAVE and code switching especially. @/writingwithcolor is a good tumblr blog to look through or ask if you want a second opinion.

Continuing from yesterday, two more members for the team (they really, really need a name jeez...)!! Eliza Harmon aka Trajectory and Bobby Barnes aka Wonder Boy!! Yes, I'm doing a wonder boy, its my au and I'll do what I want with it!

As for why, well I noticed there weren't a whole lot of sidekick options from the Wonderfam/Amazons. I got a a bit lucky with Vanessa for Jason's team, since she could've been Wonder Girl in a nicer timeline. I kind of thought about Yara Flor as an option but I felt she might not mesh well with the team, or at least not in the way I wanted. Plus during the time I was trying to decide this, I was not actually sure how old Yara actually was or what exactly her history was.

So I decided to get a bit creative and try something new for the role I wanted, I thought if Tim had Wonder Girl on his team then Steph should have a Wonder Boy on hers! And back when I was doing my Vanessa read-through I found the perfect candidate, a nephew of one of Diana's loves interest called Bobby Barnes. It kind of struck me how few examples of women having male sidekicks are, we see a lot the other way around.

(Btw there was an actual canon Wonder Boy in the comics, in Team Titans but I think he got erased in Zero Hour. At any rate, he wasn't connected to Diana nor did he interested me enough.)

Bobby is the nephew of Trevor Barnes, who had a short-lived romance with Diana. Its a shame it didn't last, because I thought Trevor was very charming, very good-looking, and with good chemistry with Diana. And Diana's crush on him was kinda adorable to read. In the issue showcasing Trevor's family, we meet Bobby, who's a bit of a superfan of Diana.

His admiration of her reminded me of Vanessa, who also hero-worshiped Wonder Woman (along with collecting all her merchandise). It's always nice to see when media has boys admiring woman, its something that should be shown more often. When meeting him, Diana remarks that she in fact liked the idea of making him Wonder Boy, so the idea's already been put out there.

But after Trevor dies, we never see Bobby or the rest of the Barnes family so the chance for that was lost. But I really liked the idea so I'm putting it into my au.

Here's some concept drawings for Bobby, when trying to work out what kind of costume I could use for him. We can see him interact with Kara and Steph, making for a little trinity here. There's Diana trying to encourage her new sidekick, I didn't draw her well here I'll admit, I need to practice drawing her more. We also see Bobby converse with Cassie, they're probably talking about how cool Diana is.

I'm still not sure how exactly Bobby gets powers, right now I've got three options:

A- he gets them the same way Cassie got them, by using magical items to power him

B- he uses some form of technology to mimic the powers the Wonders have

C-by having a god grant him the powers he needs to fight. I actually had the idea of having one of the gods that contacted Trevor to grant him the powers. Specifically Lady Ala, since she was located where Trevor's (and thus Bobby's) ancestors came from. This option might be the most interesting tbh.

Well, I spoke about Bobby the wonder of the group, so now I'm gonna talk about the speedster Eliza!

You can see her interact with the others in this concept doodle of her, she definitely has a fun dynamic with everyone (also little cameo of Jenni Ognats, I'll talk about her later tho).

Eliza was someone I found while searching for speedsters around Steph's age, which was surprisingly hard considering how many speedsters there was out there. But they were either too old, or too young, but then I found out about Eliza. She was part of a team created by Lex Luthor, using the name Infinity Inc (he bought the trademark, what a dick). She's a major fan of the Flashes (and Impulse), and wants more than anything to be a speedster.

So she joins Luthor's team and due to being rude to Luthor ends up dying for it(on Luthor's orders no less). It's a pretty messed up way to go, esp since in just 2 short issues you get to see a ton of personality from her. She's kinda of rude, ambitious, fame-hungry but her geeky fangirl tendencies also make her come off a somewhat innocent and adorable in a way. She's delightful and her unique personality made me want to draw her, I think she'll have great chemistry with the team.

In my au, I thinking I might still have her be connected to Luthor, gaining her powers in a similar way (don't know if through the Everyman Project, maybe a different way). since she's younger (and my au's lighter) its not likely she'll have the same fate. I'm not well versed on Lex Luthor but I don't think he kill off a 10 year right? Right?? I honestly think Luthor might be using her as a spy/mole among the baby heroes, debatable if Eliza even knows it, she's very grateful to him for her powers tho (she's still a rude little shit, this frustrates Luthor lmao).

Also its shown in the comics thats she using a drug cuz her powers have the drawback of not letting her slow down. Obviously I'm not having a kid use drugs, she might still have issues with slowing down tho. Maybe the Flashes can help her with that?

Actually I kind of had the idea that during the time she has her artificial powers she somehow unlocks the speedforce and gains speed powers all on her own. She's so ambitious and determined to run, I think this works thematically.

Little extra doodles of her, she's so fun to draw! Here you can see her, and Owen, bother poor Wally. Everyday he suffers lol, despite (or because?) the fact she's a huge fan of him.

Also just like what I did with Owen and Jack, I also had Eliza become good friends with a lantern, Miri Riam (an apprentice Violet Lantern). Another homage to the Flash/Green Lantern friendship. Two energetic, happy kids (with a slight moral bent) just having fun! Surely two little girls won't cause too much trouble lol!

Well, thats it for the moment for introducing members, I've got ideas for even more members (including for the other teams as well) but for now I'll just stop here.

HI THANKS FOR ANSWERING MY UNHINGED ASK THIS WILL BE VERY LONG BUT I READ THE COMIC IN ONE SITTING. im now going back and forth between imagining what kind of deeply toxic pseudo-vigilante shenanigans bunny (and caleb by association) get into post epilogue and thinking up scenarios where before shit got really real they both get soooooo much good therapy and heal together and end up toxicly codependent and kinda bad for each other still but in a way that doesn’t involve murder. like one of those aita posts where the general consensus is the couple should stay together bc even tho they’re both just exacerbating each others Issues at least nobody else is getting hurt. also i think dave and juicybaby hook up at some point.

have you ever seen that post that’s like “media in which it’s so very obvious all the problems could’ve been avoided if this guy got some therapy and a consensual bdsm relationship but that is very much Not What Happens in the story”? bc i feel like that applies to caleb. rip caleb you would’ve loved being a more well adjusted girl’s puppy and being led around the mall on a leash until security kicked you out. maybe next time king.

like imo psychological horror is at its best when you take relatively normal people facing relatively mundane horrors then letting the aftermath of those horrors warp them beyond repair. in a good psych horror (at least when it’s like ii is and based on deeply human characters dealing with stuff in the most unhelpful way they can) you should be able to understand why and how things turned out like they did. you can think of a million ways it could’ve turned out differently if only the characters had seen the end coming, but the end they met was inevitable bc they *can’t* see it coming. the red flags aren’t obvious bc they increase so gradually. the bones of the building were there from the very beginning, but how were the characters supposed to know whether it’d be a home or a slaughterhouse? there were no plans, just bricks to lay and a storm coming. and that’s exactly how i felt finishing ii.

idyllic island is a big old vent comic in a lot of ways. i drew on a lot of my own emotions and experiences to make it. i was in a very dark place for a very long time. i could have very easily gone down an even worse path, and very easily have been taken advantage of in a very dangerous way. but "guy goes to therapy and learns how to stop climbing into a wood chipper" is not a terribly interesting story imo, even if it's obviously the better outcome in real life. much more interesting to read about characters hurtling headlong towards certain doom lol

that said i always enjoy a good tragedy that leaves me feeling like "it didn't need to be like this..." (even though I know it was always the only way it was ever going to be) and imagining a happy world where everything worked out as best it could, so it's really cool to hear about someone doing that something I made!

before you read the next part just know that i LOVE hearing people's headcanons so feel free to disregard anything/everything i say here. death of the author and all that lol

imo he would have needed to never meet bunny for him to actually heal, and for her to not charge ahead on her path of destruction. even if he had gone to therapy and straightened himself up, bunny is so toxic she would have found exactly the right way to break him again (and honestly she would enjoy the added challenge). and couple's therapy would be SO BAD for him because she'd learn how manipulate and gaslight him even harder.

honestly I can't see a future for bunny where she DOESNT commit murder. she's a scorpion. it's simply her nature. it's not her fault we live in a society. perhaps she could have become a doctor and euthanized her patients discretely. i think she'd enjoy forensic science as well, but that would literally make her girl Dexter lol. maybe she could work for a three letter agency.

but yeah I absolutely agree that caleb would have LOVED to be in a 24/7 lifestyle BDSM relationship with a girl that did not want to grind him down to dust and scatter him on the wind. being a kinky freak with a loving partner would have fixed him 100%

Thinking about a Trigun au I made a while back that is super self indulgent with a side of projection /pos

I called it the Stale Donuts AU after the donuts I would sometimes get from H-E-B as a kid that, as far as I can remember, were always vaguely stale.

It is at its core, a modern AU–Cryptid Vash–Vashwood story hybrid hodgepodge thing that was also!!! Very much inspired by multiple fics I had either read or was reading at the time!!! And of course full of yummy delicious self indulgence and self projection with bits of me spread throughout like the stale donuts thing!!! Yippee!!!!!!

On to the bits and bops of the au itself in a very rambling way (I'm sorry):

Wolfwood is Mexican American and the main pov of the thing. He lives in an apartment with Livio, who's going to the local college (go girl go, get that higher education ✨). Wolfwood drives a motorcycle because why wouldn't he BUT he ALSO owns a motorcycle place where you can get shit repaired and customized an shit like that (I don't know vehicle things ITS A COOL IDEA I DONT KNOW IF ITS ACCURATE). Meryl also probably works there with him, because in my mind I can't for the life of me separate the thought of Meryl and driving things probably because I watched Stampede first but that's besides the point—we're ignoring that. Livio, Wolfwood, Meryl, and Milly were all friends in highschool (maybe they were in a shitty band?? That's a thought for a different day) and stayed friends into their adult lives (they all care about each other so much guys). ALSO this whole thing takes place in Texas, so AT SOME POINT one of them worked at Whataburger and one of them worked at a DQ I don't know WHO WAS WHERE but at LEAST ONE OF THEM I SWEAR.

Anyways

On his way to the motorcycle shop, Wolfwood passes the H-E-B and has to drive over a short bridge. Guess where he finds Vash.

One day he's coming home from work, and as he's crossing over the bridge he suddenly stops because JESUS CHRIST WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT THING. Illuminated by the motorcycle headlights, a large, feathered...something startles and crawls over the edge with a sound of pain, leaving behind a trail of blood. Yippee!! Vash makes an appearance!! Of course Wolfwood's freaked the fuck out by the bleeding thing under the bridge, yet for some reason he follows it anyway (I haven't really thought of anything except hey that thing looked kinda hurt and Melanie raised him with compassion ig so)(and I love stupid men). He sees that this giant bird is 100% actually kinda injured (imagine getting hit by a car) and manages to calm it down enough to help it out at least a little, but he's also kinda on his way home and can only see with a flashlight, so there's not much he can do. He does toss it a snack he found hidden in his jacket tho. After that whole cryptid nonsense, Wolfwood stops at H-E-B! (YIPPEEE!!) Livio sends him a text. "You should totally get me a donut from the bakery"

"Still can't believe you actually like those" he sends back, still getting a plain glazed for himself. He offhandedly wonders if the bird thing would like donuts.

The next morning, now armed with a first aid kit, he buys a donut and stops at the bridge, hoping the creature from before is still there. Oh hey look, the creature from before! Now that it's daytime, Wolfwood can clearly see that yeah, that thing is definitely hurt. He says hi, and the creature seems to recognize him from the night before, but still won't let him get close enough to fully see anything other than feathers and old scars. Donut time!! The perfect distraction!!! I don't know what kind of injuries Vash has, but whatever it is Wolfwood manages to patch it up at least a little bit while he's munching on the donut. I like to imagine he's at least a little bit good at caring for animals (specifically birds) because Tristamp Wolfwood taking care of Thoma chicks makes me ill (/pos) so uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhh chickens. And maybe like, a cockatiel for fun. Miss Melanie had chickens and a cockatiel that the kids would help take care of. It ends up becoming a routine where Wolfwood stops at the bridge to chill with the bird cryptid every morning and evening. Eventually he ends up telling Livio, Meryl and Milly about Vash. He also very quickly figures out that Vash has human level intelligence and isn't just a giant freaky animal and Vash manages to communicate what his name is!!! Yippee!!!

In this Vash has the Big Bird™ cryptid form and a normal human one, but can't switch between them when he's injured (like being hit by a car) so it's really great that this random human guy is helping him out.

The first time Wolfwood sees Vash de-birdified is hilarious because he goes to the bridge like normal and sees feathers everywhere, no giant bird in sight, and a vaguely familiar naked blond man chilling in the middle of it all. As soon as he sees Wolfwood, his face lights up and he starts excitedly waving.

"Wolfwood!"

"Needle Noggin?!"

"Look I'm all better!!"

Plot wise, no fuckin clue where it goes from here, vibe wise fuck it we ball. All I know is hijinx ensues and it's great fun all around YIPPEEEEEEE!!!

since people are asking about some of your old characters it got me thinking

what's Michelle up to these days? Has she gotten any better at holding back her monster sneezes? Did she wind up with that guy in the end? I imagine it would be a great match, having them both help tend to each other's noses when a big one is coming. Speaking of characters thought about often, I always am thinking about how valiantly she tried to hold back her sneezes not to ruin his show.

Anon you inspired me to read that story for the first time in ages and wow that shit is HOT lmao. Idk if I have another Really Epic Buildup story like that, tho I do them fairly often in RPs (shameless plug?) Anyway hmmmmm I imagine Michelle and Tim are still together probably? I can’t imagine either of them letting the other go, given that neither has ever met anyone with ginormous sneezes other than themselves. A bit of a trauma bond I suppose. I imagine Michelle has become a video editor. That seems like a good gig for her. Work from home, they probably live in a place in New Jersey kinda in the middle of nowhere (Tim had a bit part in a Ma/rvel movie, natch.) All the furniture’s bolted down, and they have a cool home automation thing (put together by Tim’s nerdy buddy and former roommate in their struggling young actor days and like from time to time there’s MMF threesomes what who said that) where like they can press a button or call A/lexa to open the windows and they try to stick their heads out of a window to sneeze, when they can. Tim and Michelle have gotten *really* good at helping each other hold back and maybe the nerdy ex-roommate who is totally not a fetishist and who they definitely don’t have very hot threesomes with is also pretty good at helping with holding back, which is the only way Michelle makes it through Tim’s plays without a repeat of the disaster chronicled in the original story.
