This may be an unpopular opinion but I GENUINELY really miss the vibe of Umbrella Academy season 1. It was so fucking emo and that just felt Right.

#i know people really like the bright fun goofy vibes of s2 #3 is more divisive but I think it was still largely going by s2 vibes #i dunno I've just started a pre-s4 rewatch after a long time not seeing it #so i will have more thoughts later #but aside from the 'god please light your scenes so i can fucking see them' critique which you can apply tomost dramas these days #i genuinely love s1 in it's edgy emo-ness #you can feel that it's based on a Gerard Way comic #gets off to an absolutely banger start with the lindsey stirling phantom medley #and idk i think i preferred the show when there were silly bits and they were v fun y but we didn't undercut everything with jokes?#later season vibes are a bit more disney/marvel #also s1 is before they fucking gave up on trying to give diego his fair shake as a compelling main character lmao #i love you diego 💛#and god rob sheehan was absolutely fucking SLAYING s1 with his portrayal of the klaus/dave story #that scene where he reappears from the past on the bus with tears and bloody hands still fucks me UP #and then they just kind of rushed through the dave thread in s2 and started mainly using klaus for comic relief #idk s1 was emo as fuck but we got to spend so much time with these characters and their unpleasant messy feelings!!!#just thinking shit don't mind me #mr. bees speaks

#main thing on my mind is melon and hybrids in general could use some more development #and also more couldve been done in the direction of “desire to eat vs desire to protect”#also melon is basically maybe the joker? good for him i guess #i do really like the closing note from the author that all interactions with other people are interspecies interactions #i think that helped kinda ease that “man this better not be an allegory” feeling #and viewing it more through a lense of trying to figure out social interactions and desires and relationships makes it make more sense #i do quite like the world though its very interesting #i feel like more could be done with it both in terms of cleaning things up a bit and expanding #bc it only rly touched on herbivores and carnivores #what about class? or social structures within a species? both are kind of touched upon with kyuu and haru respectively #(kyuu being in poverty and haru being bullied by other rabbits + having a large tight knit family)#but past that those arent rly expanded on #idk! it was a fun read; i read it pretty quickly and i think it was worth it #but it does feel like it had way more potential than it delivered on #also surprised its not huge on this website given it has furries and love and cannibalism #i guess the fact it cant escape being read as a really messy allegory kind of kneecapped it #so itll forever be known as “edgy zootopia”#beastars liveblogging

back in 2015 i wasn't watching filthy frank, i was watching 2j for obvious reasons (i was a wee little babey who didnt speak english well enough to indulge in the horrors of english speaking youtube). tbh now that i think about it 2j was most likely inspired by (if not copying) filthy frank (he too had multiple alter egos/characters on his videos including but not limited to 1j, 2j and 3j). hell, they even share the same first name (giorgos = george = joji). coincidende? i think not.

#the main differences between them are a. 2js music career never reached and will never reach joji heights. duh.#greece+cyprus is where dreams go to die #b. 2j never left yt and nowadays he is just kind of irrelevant #c. they both indulged in the edgy humour that was taking over yt back then but looking back on 2j and seeing some of his more recent vids..#i am not fully convinced that he isnt actually an asshole lmao #filthy frank #anyway. this has been a psa on the state of the greek speaking 2010s youtube scene. ur welcome. tune in for more irrelevant information.#rambles

read camp dama.scus. enjoyed some stuff, really wish i didn't have the experience so often reading a book that's Good and Progressive and about Queer Affirmation etc of feeling like i'm side-eying the author like 'and you know that delineating the people that oppose you as pure evil that therefore deserves torture or death or being eliminated from society entirely is bad, right? you know that, right??'

#it's kind of funny bc the main character is a jack chick tract atheist in a way bc #she rejects her religion (REALLY quickly and easily lol) and immediately starts... conceiving of HERSELF as a prophet/god #as in. starts making up 'bible' verses that are about Her and how awesome she is #and how she's going to bring down her enemies with the righteous flaming sword of vengeance and wrath and truth etc #which i would love as a character Thing if the narrative didn't just treat this as 'super metal' with absolutely no further examination #(seriously she casually drops that she's been making up bible-style verses abt herself and her ideas #in convo with her Token Good Christian friend. by CITING ONE OF THEM #LIKE IT'S A BIBLE VERSE. and then going 'o yeah i've been making those up'#and her friend's reaction is just 'haha that's sick' and moving on)#listen i'm all for god complexes and edgy bullshit but the presentation along w the general #descriptions of the Enemy as 'cartoonishly pure evil' and implicit 'haha nice!' around the idea of THEM getting tortured forever #just leaves me ://///#i might be oversensitive to this after stuff like Sorrowland and Pet but.... just. ech. i wish i didn't have to play the game of #'do you think torture is ok if it's someone you don't like?' and 'do you consider people who do bad things as human?' in the first place #also it was just a HUGELY underwritten book lol it'd make a decent movie but viewed as a book it gets funnier the longer i think about it #was marketed as conversion camp horror. 0 conversion camp content bc IT ALREADY HAPPENED #0 relationship development bc the two people the MC connects with she ALREADY HAD RELATIONSHIPS WITH. me after i let my anger get the best of me and accidentally kill someone who could have been purified and the resulting gut-wrenching guilt consumes my every waking moment and my terror that it might happen again is so severe that it manifests as horrible nightmares that plague me every night and the worst part about them is that i actually enjoy killing my victims in the nightmares which is a thought more horrifying than any foe i might face and that's why i can never tell any of my friends about what im going through because if they knew the full truth they would surely think me a monster and, honestly, i couldn't blame them and so all i can do is suffer in silence and wait for the guilt and shame as well as what are sure to soon become full-fledged psychopathic tendencies begin producing malevolence in me until i am completely consumed by it and wind up destroying everyone i love and leading the world to certain catastrophe. but it's okay haha im totally fine you don't need to worry about me

I made this post about it and while it's definitely getting to the point where I feel like this uh. dead horse is about as beaten as it can get like there's nothing new or interesting coming out of it anymore and more r absolute garbage than anything even mildly good, there's only so much you can do with zombie stuff. the walking dead phase of mainstream media proves it. but I'll still look at that garbage!!!

my only wish is less like r/childhoodruined r/imsorryjon eldritch garfield boring body horror and more LORE and world building.....I tried finding it but i can't BCS there's literally a million of these fucking things but my favorite is this one that starts out w granny smith and it's a fake like point and click adventure style, where it's a slow creep of sickness and grief and futileness that's way more unchilling than any like. final page of the slideshow "jumpscare" that u know is coming with hyper realistic eyes and a broken jaw.
