Saturnians Who Love Animals 🦆🦀🐟🐂🐒🐼🐱🦊🦁🙀

In my first post about Saturnians, I had included examples of several Saturnian individuals who were known for abusing animals. It is a very sensitive topic and I did not intend to say that it is the nature of Saturn to abuse animals, only that it's one of the violent, brutal "dark" or "negative" manifestations of the planet. Claire's research had shown that Ketu ruled naks were most prominent among serial killers but that does not mean every Ketuvian is a potential criminal. Every planet and nakshatra has good and bad manifestations. The same qualities can be projected differently by different individuals. Saturn causes delay and obstructions, some pay turn to devotion and discipline in the face of it and others may turn cold, cruel and bitter. How you manifest your chart depends on what is in your heart as a human being.

KIKI AYONA,, I’m shiny hunting for Zorua in Pokémon scarlet with no shiny charms or anything (used my herba on my shiny rockruff!) I’m awful at it tbh do you guys have any tips 🙏

zorua/zoroark/ditto are weird in this game... you can use the lock-on feature with ZL to check if a pokemon is zorua or not, and then you can use the let's go feature to check if it's shiny because your pokemon won't autobattle shinies. if it's shiny, sweatdrops will appear next to its icon in the bottom left and it'll refuse to attack. basically just run in circles where zorua spawns and check them all with lock-on with your pokemon on let's go mode!

also, even if you aren't using shiny sandwiches, i would still make an encounter power dark level 2 sandwich of some kind to get more zorua to spawn. if you don't like running in circles, you can also refresh spawns by entering a picnic and immediately ending it. i wasn't sure what you're struggling with so i just kind of relayed the most optimal practices, i hope this helps! if you aren't using sandwiches and especially if you don't have the shiny charm, it might take a while, but just stay persistent and it'll happen eventually!

The New York African Film Festival Returns For 31st Year

Film at Lincoln Center and African Film Festival have announced the lineup for the 31st New York African Film Festival. The festival's mission is to feature filmmakers from the African diaspora. This year's theme is the Convergence Of Time and it explores the intersection of historical and contemporary roles played by individuals representing Africa and its diaspora in art. More than 50 films from more than 25 countries invite the audience to look at the meeting of past and current experimentalism transcending space and time. 

The festival's opening night showcases the North American premiere of Over The Bridge, Tolu Ajayi’s feature about corruption in Lagos as Folarin, a successful investment banker whose company is contracted by the government to oversee a high-profile project, searches for answers when the project goes awry, which leads him to a remote fishing village to put the pieces of the mystery together.

The Closing Night selection features the New York premiere of Dibakar Das Roy’s riveting and uproarious Dilli Dark, which shows the boundaries Nigerian MBA candidate Michael Okeke will push to succeed as he lives a double life as a student and drug dealer amidst the backdrop of India’s history of colonialism, racism, and xenophobia.

The festival will also host the North American premieres of Matthew Leutwyler’s Fight Like a Girl, depicting the true story of a young Congolese woman (Ama Qamata from the hit Netflix series Blood and Water) who finds liberation after joining an all-women’s boxing club in Goma, led by an ex-child-soldier coach; and Oyiza Adaba’s biographical documentary DELA: The Making of El Anatsui, which delves into the life of El Anatsui, the world-renowned sculptor from Ghana, and triumphantly acknowledges the importance of Africa’s rich artistic and cultural heritage.

Five features making their New York debut are: Damien Hauser’s After the Long Rains, a touching account of 10-year-old Aisha, who longs to become a fisher so she can travel to Europe, and befriends an alcoholic fisherman who promises to teach her; Uche Aguh’s musical romance Dynamite, which finds musician Kiki in an unhappy marriage with her husband/manager and beginning a whirlwind romance with a replacement bassist in her band; Osvalde Lewat’s documentary MK: Mandela’s Secret Army, the little-known story of the military avant-garde founded by global icon Nelson Mandela, screening for the 30th anniversary of South African Freedom Day; This Is Lagos, Kenneth Gyang’s dark comedy featuring aspiring rapper Stevo navigating the dangers of his criminal past after an escape from a heist goes wrong; and The Rhythm and the Blues, the true-life story of legendary bluesman Eddie Taylor and his fight against obscurity, industry corruption, and cultural appropriation, starring actor and musician Leon.

An exciting addition to this year’s festival is La Chapelle, Jean-Michel Tchissoukou’s surreal take on the relationship between Africa, Christianity, and colonialism. A classic feature shot in 1980s Congo, this enchantingly bizarre and bitingly funny satire leaves one questioning the relevance of space and time. 

Among many shorts premiering at NYAFF, not to be missed is Harold George’s Making Men. In a first for NYAFF, the screening of George’s film will be accompanied by a live dance performance from George and members of his dance troupe, as well as a discussion afterwards. A brilliant question of masculinity, visually probed via imagery of traditional customs, the film supplies modern questions with ancestral answers. Another, Love Taps, directed by Derrick Woodyard and executive produced by Spike Lee, offers another comment on masculinity, secrets, and family ties.

NYAFF will present an “Art & Activism” Town Hall at The Africa Center on Thursday, May 2, at 6:00pm, featuring artists Christian Nyampeta, Adama Delphine Fawundu, and Taiwo Aloba, moderated by cultural anthropologist, curator, and scholar Paulette Young.

This year’s Master Class presented by AFF will feature veteran independent filmmaker Ngozi Onwurah, who will discuss the craft of utilizing cinema as a tool for unmasking the dynamics of the socioeconomic status quo. The event takes place in the Amphitheater at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center with tickets available through africanfilmny.org.

“A litany for past suns labeled rituals / A star lit any and all possible futures,” a digital art exhibit of the work of Zainab Aliyu, will run in the Amphitheater at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center May 9–14 beginning 30 minutes before the first NYAFF screening of the day. The exhibit is inspired by Nikki Giovanni’s “A Litany for Peppe” (1970) and Audre Lorde’s “A Litany for Survival” (1978), two poems written years apart, yet converging thematically through time. As the title suggests, the piece is structured as a litany, a repetitive and rhythmic form often used in ceremonial settings. In this context, Aliyu’s litany serves as a call to action for her communities to alchemize their shared histories toward shared futures.

His earbuds were snug in place plugging his ears, successfully drowning out the world around him. Koohyun had his eyes closed. Not that it made any difference in the complete darkness of his room. He was sprawled on the floor rather than lying on his bed. His back needed to be stretched and the floor was where he needed to be. He wanted to center himself. To realign himself with his roots, so to speak. Not that he could explain what that meant. Lying like this was what he used to do in his youth. He couldn’t believe he was approaching his thirties. Maybe that was why his back needed more stretching.

The music was loud, screaming in anguish or anger, he wasn’t entirely sure. English wasn’t easy to understand when they sung so quickly. But the vibe was more than enough. It wasn’t really relaxing to lay on the floor and listen to screamo music. But it helped Koohyun bring his thoughts into focus. Perhaps it was a bit counterproductive because his heartrate increased with the intensity of the music. A primal need to move to the riffs and yells. But not now. He was trying to sort out his own feeling. The root of himself and his issues.

Lately he had felt a vague feeling growing in the pit of his stomach. Something akin to sadness or perhaps it was guilt. That’s what he wanted to know. But what could have spawned the feeling? He couldn’t recall doing anything outside of his mundane routine since the feeling had started to become noticeable. Perhaps that was the reason for his unease?

The song ended and the momentary silence before the next song on the playlist started seemed to last longer than normal. Koohyun almost moved his hand to grab his phone and make sure that the song hadn’t become paused. But his limbs were heavy. If he moved now he would disrupt his efforts to ground himself in his current reality. This is pointless, he thought briefly before the new song started and he felt a pang in his chest.

“Oh.” He mouthed and his eyes opened to stare up at the ceiling through the darkness. The image of her pained smile was etched in his retinas. That girl hadn’t contacted him in months. Or perhaps it was him that hadn’t reached back to her. He struggled to roll onto his side, pulling his phone close, the sudden light blinding him for a moment. He opened Kakao and was horrified to see the little red notification appear, the ‘(3) Unread’ beside her icon of a stuffed animal. One she had won from a claw game. Koohyun swore to himself. He always forgot that his kkt would bug out and fail to display notifications. Yet here was the reality staring him in the face. He hadn’t even bothered to check to send her a message to check-in in the months they hadn’t spoken.

What a shitty friend he was turning out to be.

He opened their chat at stared at the three messages.

Koohyun wasn’t sure how to respond. The music blaring in his ears was distracting now that he had to focus on drafting a message to her. How could he apologize for the unintentional ghosting and salvage their friendship without coming off as an asshole? He wasn’t sure such a thing would be possible.

‘sorry. work has been hectic. hope you are ok. maybe we can play this weekend. i have a day off saturday.’

He sent his message and laid his phone face down on the floor. The music enveloped him as he closed his eyes again. He felt like his message failed to get across his remorse. He did feel bad. But he was lying about work being hectic. He really was a shitty guy to ignore her for so long then so selfishly ask to play games on his own day off instead of asking for her schedule. Even he couldn’t believe his own actions. If this was his roots and part of his core existence, he was a little disturbed but not entirely surprised. He had never been great at maintaining friendships. He sighed and removed his earbuds, returning them to their case.

His phone buzzing tore him from his inner scolding. He turned over the phone and stared in bewilderment at the banner notifications on the lock screen.

‘eek! a ghost!’ ‘i am free saturdaay~ lets play lets play~~’

Koohyun stared at them without opening them. He couldn’t understand how she could so easily brush off his absence and readily accept his invitation to play over the coming weekend. And she had acknowledged his absence with a joke. He couldn’t even bring himself to laugh. It was shameful to drag someone younger into his failures of friendship. But maybe he could mend it.
