i've already replied to this one but it struck a chord with me.

bullies HATE when they're overpowered. they're afraid of it. they feel threatened by it because the little toy they've been pushing around is suddenly pushing them instead and now they don't know what to do. using your words, taking all the teacher's advice and trying to "be the bigger person" will only get you bullied more and more and more because that is not what bullies respond well to. they take that as a sign of weakness and will only escalate it further, and at that point it becomes a situation where you can no longer use your words anymore and you have to use your fists. you have to listen to your survival instincts and fight back, because the shit teachers preach to you with, all the washed out "ignore it" "be nice to them" "tell them to stop"s, will just make you into a pushover. giving that bully a swift punch in the nose, a kick to the stomach (or the nuts) and a firm elbow shove to the chest will show them that you are a threat, they will face consequences for enacting actions on you and that you will not be an easy target for them. they will learn the lesson of "playing stupid games gets you stupid prizes" and likely won't try to fuck with you again. give them the biggest reaction they could ever hope for.

look i understand that using your words is generally considered to be a more "mature" solution to a conflict and that you can't always take the physical route when you're an adult, but the point where it becomes harassment is no longer a conflict. that is now a chain of abuse, and every single person deserves to know how to physically defend against that. i also understand that sometimes, physical defence might escalate something into full blown violence, in which people should also be taught backup strategies like surrounding yourself with other people and contacting the police (as much as i hate the police, sometimes they can help) if needed.

teachers should be giving people self-defence strategies. there should be classes on how to use your body to fight against harassment when words fail you. but they aren't for some reason that i'm not entirely sure why (apart from what op said about teachers never experiencing bullying themselves). maybe it's a control thing. maybe it's a systemic thing. i'm not sure. but the point is that they aren't and they really REALLY should be because it works.

any punishment you could get for defending yourself physically in school is temporary. the effects of trauma from bullying lasts forever. you deserve the skills to be able to end this cycle and show them who not to fuck with. do not forgive and do not forget.

“The bullying will go away if you just handle it with enough grace and kindness” is a disgusting lie that could only ever be perpetuated by someone who has never been bullied before. Anyone who has ever experienced real bullying knows that bullied respond to one thing and one thing only; consequences.

You know, it would be amazing if Hollywood learned the right lesson from the success of Nimona. Something like "Hey, maybe don't throw out a nearly done movie as a tax write off" or "people want queer stories" or even "don't be afraid to take some storytelling risks and be original" but you just know they're going to come away with some absolutely batshit takeaway like, "next time delete all the evidence and burn it to the ground so the gays can't make us look bad!"

lookin at the hobbit family trees provides so many interesting tidbits of knowledge like

bilbo is first cousins with otho, and therefore lotho is his first cousin once removed. but frodo is so unrelated to lotho its actually kind of funny. lotho is his fifth cousin. they’re related through balbo of all hobbits, which is about as unrelated as two baggins’ could be. balbo has been dead for like a century. if any baggins would be frodo’s next of kin, it probably would have been his cousin-in-law griffo boffin, a hobbit so irrelevant hes literally just fodder for the family tree. no wonder the s.b.s were so pissed, bilbo literally could not have found an baggins heir less related to them

obviously we as the readers know that bilbo chose frodo as his heir because frodo is like. his son/nephew/friend and kindred spirit but from the perspective of the s.b.s it just looks like bilbo is the pettiest bitch in all of the shire. amazing

Since Gabe was alive when Sweetheart and Milo got together (I assume) I'll say it now they were prank besties when it came to Milo.

Gabe reminded Sweetheart of their Dads (I saw this hc from someone else I'll find it later) so- third dad found.

When they were told Gabe got into a car crash they had initially fainted.

When they got to the hospital and saw Gabe, they had fainted again.

When they woke up, Sweetheart almost went into the dumb fuckers (the drunk dude) hospital room and killed them too.

As much fun as I'm having doing my alternative run of DA2, one thing I really miss about my mage Hawke is his friendship with Merrill.

Those two are best friends and he's 100% supportive in her goals toward the eluvian. Ed has the humorous/charming personality, too, which bounces off super well with Merrill. He doesn't think any less of her for her usage of blood magic; if anything he's impressed by her level of strength and willpower. He's so ready to defend her from the other companions and the clan, and he's absolutely out here attempting to matchmake her and Carver....at least he is in my heart because the game won't let me, it's fine, I'm not bitter about it or anything-

But then my warrior Hawke? She has the diplomatic personality with quite a bit of direct/aggressive thrown in there and she ends up having the same attitude as that one party banter Aveline and Merrill have: "Merrill, you're clearly talented and meant for great things, but you're stupid," and that's so difficult for me to lean into. I'm trying to play Aris differently so she ends up being so condescending to Merrill, like she's trying to gently tell her to give up on the eluvian but it doesn't come off well.

Also if Carver was around, Aris would be the opposite of Ed, she'd look at the suggestion of her brother and Merrill getting together and be like, "No :) I don't think so :) I like Merrill, she's my friend :) but she's not right for Carver."

But I guess it makes sense; if you told him that Bethany would giggle and kick her feet and twirl her hair around Sebastian, Ed would've thrown him in the ocean as a warning. Meanwhile, Aris is like, "A handsome prince that could take my sister away from all of this? Wonderful, we just need to work on his incorrect views on mages, but that shouldn't be a problem :)"

Anyway I miss playing Hawke as the #1 Merrill stan.
