(voice of a man slowly losing his mind) does it ever strike you that the plot of aftg is moved by little acts of kindness kevin offered to people who never had any semblance of it before. loving riko when no one would, befriending jean in the nest and keeping him alive through debilitating amounts of trauma, telling andrew he was worth it in a dingy high school locker room, teaching neil every night even if he knew he was about to die

i always have this hc in my mind where Neil, after accepting an award ( probably best stricker of the season) gives a speech and talks about a man who was the closest thing he had to a father. who always believed in second, third and hundred chances, and Neil never understood why. he never understood why would this man bother himself with bunch of broken aggressive kids, why would he see a future for them when they never saw one for themselves. why would he let them stay and come back after bringing up the most of trouble s? Neil would say that his past is no secret now, that everybody know everything but he is not ashamed, and he won't let his past define who he is or will be, because that's what that man had taught him, because he believed that Neil could be anybody he wants despite his past, because he taught him that his past is part of his life and not all of it, not just him, all of them, all of the foxes. he says how they all thought they where a lost cause but this man found them, brought them together and made them a family. Neil says that it's been years, but not even once he thanked him for all of this. partly because he still thinks that was so stupid of him, because he still doesn't understand why would a man want to willingly torture himself with them? and partly because that man never asked for one. because all he had done for them was given free, an unconditional care and support.

but now, he wants to thank him, not out of behaving or politness,

because that's how he feels and has always felt, appreciation.

also somewhere between the speech he wipes some liiiiittle bit tears and jokes about how he hasn't cried since he was 10.

then he thanks him, because he is the reason he stands where he is right now.

he thanks him and tell him he deserves the world, just like he thought they deserve the world despite the mess the world made of them.

he thanks him and tell him he could never make up for things this man has done for him,

he thanks him and says this man gave him the best and rightest people he could ever have in his life.

he thanks him and says he will always be a precious family member to him.

he thanks him, and dedicates his award to who he thinks is the greatest man in exy history,

sometimes you sit back and realise just how deserving kevin day was of the best ext player title like

this man had the entire sport his life was built around shattered because he was the best at it. the only thing he lived for, they only thing he had left untainted by complications, snatched from him in a fit of jealousy by the man who grew up by his side, his own brother.

he got his dominant hand destroyed so brutally it was predicted he’d never be able to play again at all. they didn’t even expect him to be able to hold up a racquet with his right hand, much less play the sport as good as he used to.

this shit all before transferring to an uncoordinated team that does not live and breathe the sport and is not willing to push him to his best. they don’t listen to his advice and on court they’re as egoistic individually as they are together. they care as much about red cards as the ravens except that the ravens don’t care because they can actually afford red cards. an entirely different environment where everything is not catering to exy.

on top of that this man had to learn how to play full games. he had to unlearn the illegal violence he’s been playing with since he was a child and had to increase his stamina to play just as good legally for double the time.

this feat made even harder because of the fact that he barely had enough time to recover and get used to 24-hour days. his entire schedule upended and he got half the time to practice. he was entirely dependent on someone else to take him to court because he didn’t live underneath it. this someone was the last person to care about exy and would often deny kevin’s need to be at court practicing.

he had to get used to not having a partner he knew he could trust on court blindly because they were just so tuned to each other.

he had to forcibly let go of years of instilled trauma that led him to suppress his skill and pretend he’s second best. he had to face both on and off court the man who put him in that position.

all this while having enough issues that if he took a shot of the most dilute alcohol for each he’d be in a grave before even getting halfway.

yet he faced it. he faced it all and he fucking won.

he pushed and pushed and pushed and he fucking made it. he didn’t just persevere through his issues, he climbed them like a fucking mountain and didn’t even need to reach its peak to be the strongest. that too in less than two years like?????

he is the best player in the field and he deserves it so fucking much. i just need him to be happy plsplsplspls

As I passed the area with clothing, I glanced over and saw some nice, plain men's sweaters.

i wanna give some appreciation to Kevin Afghani cause oh my god i love his Mario and Luigi voices so much

the first video game i ever played was Mario 64 when my parents brought it in the house when i was a very little kid, so Charles' Mario was something i grew up with from the very beginning

and the moment i heard Kevin in the Mario Wonder announcement trailer, i knew it wasn't Charles - but i knew whoever the replacement could've been was doing a good job

i just really wanna say thanks to Kevin Afghani for keeping the spirit of these characters alive, truly. i have so much appreciation for him and i believed in him since the moment i couldn't tell him apart from Charles Martinet
