Ken’s Movie Show Takes!
🐎🎥🎬❕
So for my first horse movie take, it’s actually for a TV show. Psych. Anybody out there heard of it? It’s something else, lemme tell ya.
So! Psych season 2, episode 5. “And Down the Stretch Comes Murder” that’s kind of a scary word
Horse content! - 3/5
It was super cool that this show had horse races! But I didn’t like that the short, mean guy blamed the horse for losing his races. That wasn’t very nice! And neither was the bad guys making the horses sick so they slow down. They wasn’t nice either! But it was still really, really cool to see them race! They’re so pretty.
Rewatchability - 4/5
I mean, I think I should start from the beginning and watch the show in order so I understand what’s going on and what these two dudes are about, but yeah, I could watch this again. Especially since I know the horses are okay at the end.
How much I enjoyed it - 4/5
I thought it was a fun show! Really funny and they saved the day and the horses which is always great!
Bonus category: Kenergy - 5/5
These two dudes are total Kens. And one of them is even in love with a Barbie! I could hang out with these guys. We’d be friends for sure. Are we sure they didn’t escape from Barbie Land?

new metric for media literacy for film bros is if they understand the barbie movie.
the kens are first presented as accessories to their barbies and it's pointed out loud that they don't even have places to stay in barbieland. one of the barbies straight up asks "wait, where do the kens stay?". they're just arm candy made to look pretty and cool while the barbies run their world.
but that's fucked up!!! the film presents it as fucked up! that's why ken screams "YOU FAILED ME!" and why he is insecure in the first place because he wanted to be respected and seen as a person, not someone who only exists in relation to someone else. should he have done what he did? no!!! that's why it's part of the conflict! the root of both of their breakdowns was in their society in that the barbies are supposed to be perfect and the kens exist in relation to them! it's barbie and ken. he was a footnote. that's why barbie apologizes to him in the end and tells him he can be himself. she doesn't have to exist by some set of rules and neither does he! it's barbie and it's ken! sure, the resolution to the whole barbieland issue wasn't perfect, BUT KEN'S WHOLE ARC IS ABOUT HOW THEIR WORLD FAILED MEN. WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS MOVIE WAS 'WOMEN GOOD MAN BAD'. WHAT ABOUT THE NUANCE

currently thinking about last year when all the right wing men were whining about the barbie movie and how it was promoting misandry and radical feminism only to watch the movie and see the most surface level feminist takes like damn this is radical to men? the way they were speaking about it i was expecting america ferrera’s character to start quoting the scum manifesto or something

The Bee Movie really wants you to think that Ken’s the villain but he was done SO dirty. Imagine your girlfriend breaks up with you so she can date a guy who will die before Halloween (knowing DAMN WELL you’re allergic to bees) so she can sue all of humanity over the only form of animal husbandry that the animals actually consent to, and when she realizes what a horrible lapse in judgement she’s made, she steals a plane to fix it and when the dust settles, she’s still fucking the goddamn bee.

I want to write barbie x ken fanfiction set maybe a couple years after the movie (Barbie spoilers)
where ken decides to go to the Real World because he Can Do That now and meets barbie again whos been adjusting and living self-love and doing things and finding herself and It's this, like, tearful reunion moment and Ken's still in love with her but he's much better at keeping it to himself because ken always respects barbie's decisions, but barbie spends a few days with this ken who has over time also sort of become himself, and has discovered his interests and likes and dislikes and became, like, more rounded through experiences and discovers that she finds him utterly endearing and begins falling for him and just. Second chances pure friendship to lovers barbie x ken where they take some time off for themselves and meet each other as better people (dolls? idk u get the point).

Ken’s Movie Takes!
💡 🎥 🎬❕
Okay so this week, I decided to try this one that actually doesn’t have horses in it. Shocking! Yeah, I know! I was surprised too! But I wanted something funny to watch, and I was told this one was funny. So this week’s movie take is about Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
Horse Content - 0/5
I knew that going in though, so it wasn’t like a surprise or anything. A horse really would’ve put this movie over the top though. I thought when the parade showed up, I would’ve seen one, but unless I blinked at the wrong time, I didn’t see one.
Rewatchability - 4/5
Despite having no horses like at all in the movie, it was still pretty cool to watch. I’d watch it again no problem.
How much I enjoyed it - 4/5
Yeah, I enjoyed it! This dude, Ferris wow what a name, huh? he’s pretty ingenious. The grownups were pretty dumb though. Like all of them. Which was kinda cringe, ya know? Like Gloria’s a grownup, but she’s definitely not dumb. But that CEO dude comes off that way… I don’t know, but the grownups made me laugh. The sister though, she made me roll my eyes.
Kenergy - 3.5/5
Like this is tough actually. Because like there’s no character with a definite Kenergy presence, but there were a lot of Kenergy moments. But you know what? Ferris gave me like Barbie vibes with some Kenergy moments. And like the best friend Cameron? Allan. Very Allan to me. With some Kenergy moments. Crazy, right?

Everytime I see a new trailer or anything for Barbie I am so much more convinced that Ken (Ryan Gosling) is gonna be the ultimate antagonist.
My favorite way of showing this is through his outfits, though there are others.
Tumblr media
So he starts off looking like what we'd expect of Ken. In a blue outfit, open shirt, and the way he acts at this point is just head over heels for Barbie. This photo takes place before he asks to spend the night in Barbie's Dreamhouse ("not Ken's Dreamhouse")
Then when they move onto the real world, he matches Barbie almost exactly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's in pink and practically everything Barbie's wearing, nothing that looks like his earlier more neutral outfits. He's as out of place as she is in the real world; his place is next to Barbie. But after spending time in the real world?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's in all black. A completely not-Barbie color. Hell, in the right picture he looks downright angry, as if he's threatening the person he's looking at. And he's back in Barbieland.
Kinda gets me thinking about the theme of the movie. Greta Gerwig is not one to hold back, so I'm thinking we'll see both Barbie and Ken realizing what it means to be human, specifically in our society, a society where there has always been a severe disadvantage between men and women. Barbie is upset that this is what the real world is, what being a human woman is, but Ken? This is what he wants, a world where men are in power, where he's more than 'Just Ken', where he gets a Dreamhouse too.

the Barbie movie (2023) was horrible
[SUBMITTED JUSTIFICATION UNDER THE CUT - PLEASE READ]
Propaganda is encouraged!
Also, remember to reblog your favourite polls for exposure!
Submitted justification:
unfortunately this is a dead serious take of mine. that movie was a story of a horrible tragedy portrayed as justice. and the subtle violent radfem undertones were deeply uncomfortable. my reasons for disliking it are very complicated and personal, so I'm going to try and keep this brief and try to avoid saying anything too charged.
i understand liking it— it was a very fun movie! the way they did the practical effects and props and setting were all genius and very cool!
but.. the way they handled Ken and his struggles felt extremely minimizing, cruel, and violent. I've *been* the reject kid before. I *know* what that's like. I've been humiliated and degraded before for being too much, for having ADHD, for being autistic, for wanting to be included in friend groups that didn't want me.
ken's story is a *tragedy* of a person who dared to ask for love and inclusion, who dared to ask over and over until the only option left to him was to be made into a villain for it. and instead of realizing that maybe, just maybe, this was a cry for help... that maybe, this was the last straw in a long long long line of instances of horribly cruel social bullying and humiliation.... that maybe Ken never wanted to hurt anyone, that maybe he just wanted everyone to see how much he was hurting, that maybe he never wanted power or violence, but empathy instead.... instead of considering any of at, the movie has Barbie and her friends *laugh* at his suffering, and watch him on the brink of tears with the grim satisfaction of a bully that got away with it.
i came away from this movie thinking, what should Ken have done better to avoid this? what could he have done to be truly accepted? what was the "good" choice, if what he actually chose was actually so evil?
and the answer is, nothing. he was spending his entire life serving and worshipping a group that wanted him quiet, polite, and dead. from personal experience, this is the kind of friend group that would probably find it at best a personal irritant, if he had attempted suicide.
this movie was so hurtful. it really felt like they said "people like you are better off dead or behaving like perfect mindless dolls, because when you try to get what you want, you just bother the people around you." conform or else.
i know people get icky when people claim that misandry exists, but.... consider the plot of this same movie, if ken had been one of barbie's girl friends. or if ken had been a trans girl. or hell, even a trans girl egg. i just see people only praising this movie and... no one seems to acknowledge how unnecessarily, brutally cruel they were to Ken, and how little empathy he received both from the general audience and from the writers and Barbie herself.

Ken if instead of getting really into patriarchal ideals he just got the horse he wanted at the beginning and everything was fine.
