Bonus Team Avatar in formal wear/at Hei-Ran's wedding, and in present day/Kyoshi novels
Sure glad nothing bad happened to this group of friends as they grew up :)))
I've been rereading the Kyoshi books, and I'm in a character design mood, so I thought of designing Team Avatar: Kuruk edition
It's so much fun designing Avatar characters. I love getting to research the different influences that contribute to the worldbuilding
#avatar#atla#rok#rise of kyoshi#shadow of kyoshi#kuruk#jianzhu#kelsang#hei-ran#nyahitha#costume design#art#it's kind of sad because kuruk is definitely the type to go sleeveless in everything above “middle of a blizzard”#but then after hunting dark spirits he's suddenly fully covered because he's always cold and covered in scars#also after being exiled kelsang can no longer wear the bright colours of the air nomads#on a lighter note hei-ran wears less white for her wedding than most other fire nation women#because i imagine both she and her clan are higher status than her husband so she doesn't have to distance herself from them#and i like the gan-jin wearing mostly white and gold so jianzhu does when he's younger#but after becoming an earth sage/yun's guardian he wears deeper greens as a performance of loyalty to the earth kingdom#also it's fun drawing nyahitha's knock off fire sage outfit

God can you imagine? If Rangi and Kyoshi really were BOTH oblivious about their own feelings this entire time???? Can you imagine the talks Hei-Ran and Kelsang probably tried to have???? TT0TT
Hei-Ran: I've noticed you've been.....running a lot more lately. Rangi: Yeah. Hei-Ran, trying to solve what strange mating ritual her daughter is performing: Is there someone you.... like? Romantically or....otherwise? Rangi: No? Why would you think that? Hei-Ran: I....I don't....know just.... What are your thoughts on Kyoshi? Completely unrelated. Rangi: She's a good friend. Would probably die for her. Might explode if she holds my hand. That's normal with friends, right? Hei-Ran, trying not to cry: I see. Kelsang: Kyoshi do you like anyone? Kyoshi: Me?! NO! Never! Who is this "anyone" you speak of? Hahahaha Yun didn't say anything to you, did he? Kelsang, really confused: Yun???? No- I just. Um. Rangi- Kyoshi, grabbing Kelsang by the shoulders: RANGI SAID SOMETHING?! Kelsang: She said you were running late! Um, what do you think she meant? Kyoshi: I DON'T KNOW! I think I need to clean, yes, this'll keep my aching heart from hurting! *runs off* Kelsang: So her heart aches when she's thinking of Rangi???? TT0TT Kyoshi we need a talk please come baaaaack!
#god the in-laws are SUFFERING#hei-ran trying to be the best mother in law during the fire test scene despite knowing her daughter is oblivious as fuck#'this girl may be my daughter-in-law at some point. once my daughter figures out her feelings its all over! need to make a good impression!#release these two from their SHACKLES#hei-ran#heiran#rise of kyoshi#avatar generations#chronicles of the avatar#shadow of kyoshi#hei-ran sei'naka#heiran sei'naka#heiran seinaka#hei-ran seinaka#avatar legends#kelsang#rangi#rangshi#rangi sei'naka#rangi seinaka#kyoshi you continue being the avoidance queen uwu#Kyoshi's feeling the emotions she's just confused about what it means#rangi hasn't had her 'oh' moment yet u_u#idiots in love my beloveds#god they're so stupid#rangi is oblivious theory#might have one more post about this in me

gonna briefly brain dump about the Rangshi fankid (a lil' sister for Koko) @meg-noel-art and I have been cooking up......
a handful of years after SoK, Kyoshi and Rangi adopt Koko (around 2-3 years old at the time) and realize they love being mothers—that ties in to their own separate, distinct, and complicated experiences with their own mothers (which could be its own post lmao).
Rangi expresses the wish that they could have a child together—one Kyoshi contemplates and ultimately comes to share—but isn’t fond of the realistic options. So it remains just a very wistful but impossible wish…which Kyoshi one day accidentally carries with her into a particularly intense meditation session.
Enter spirit magic. Without realizing it, Kyoshi manifests the emotion of their conversation into the Spirit World—something something, “[Kyoshi] imagined Rangi’s energy twining together in place with her own” only it actually happens this time.
Some benevolent spirit….does its thing. And hey surprise, Rangi ends up pregnant! Cue confusion, but immense joy upon figuring out what happened. They have a little girl—Rinzen, Rin for short, Rangi’s features and Kyoshi’s freckles and…gray eyes. Jesa’s eyes.
oh, and also. since Rin's so closely connected with spirits—couple years later, turns out, she’s an airbender. Like Jesa. And Kelsang.
just a basic outline because Meg and I have some creative Things planned. it is SO self-indulgent and perhaps not entirely logical or watertight re: canon but also consider. fandom is a sandbox and honey, we are building castles

I keep coming up with these ideas for different Au's so here's another one: Kuruk taking over Kyoshi's body right after Kelsang dies. Jianzhu throws a different array of boulders or something at her. Only for the dust to settle and for him do not see Kyoshi but instead it's Kuruk, looking at him very angrily as he saw everything through Kyoshi's eyes. Keeping in mind the fact that Kuruk was said to be one of the best earthbenders in history Jianzhu is absolutely screwed. (I also like the idea of Kuruk being a protective older brother in this scenario.)
Kuruk absolutely rocking his shit is my favourite thing, why did the writers never make him possess her for anything
No cause i always imagined that when kyoshi went into the avatar state for the first time it was the anger of a daughter and a friend
#avatar#atla#avatar the last airbender#avatar kuruk#atla kuruk#kuruk#atla kyoshi#the shadow of kyoshi#kyoshi#the rise of kyoshi#kelsang#jianzhu#love seeing you in my inbox#pls never stop i love these asks so much#(do you perchance have a discord…..)

Kyoshi Novels Thoughts
The Rise of Kyoshi: (8/10)
• Its very Enjoyable and have a way interesting lore than the Yangchen Novels in my opinion.
• I did not expect rangshi to be that quick to be canon
• and i also did not expect lek to be died quickly in the books
• My only complains is that i wanna see more lore between the flying opera company and especially the members like Kirima and Wong since there's not a lot of backstory that we know of them.. But at the same time, im fine with it since this book is not really based on them anyways
• i want more backstory of kyoshi and kelsang or kyoshi and her parents before they left her to get the milk
• oh yeah nevermind i have more complains.... Why the fact did Jianzu and Kelsang not realize that kyoshi is the avatar after she fucking stole the turtle relics?????? Wot?
• I lowkey want to see rangi and kyoshi discussing of their relationship.. Like they just kissed but like.. They didn't say anything that they should be in a official relationship?? Like imagine my surprise when i found out kyoshi still calls rangi a "friend" wot
The Shadow of Kyoshi: (6/10)
• To be honest this book did not made me interested of binge reading it at all
• Like i could finish the yangchen novels in a single day but for some reason this book does not made me that interested
• its not too bad but its not too good either
• The embarrassment that i felt towards kyoshi meeting the firelord and his half brother (cry internally) but at the same time it kinda made sense for her to be acting like a fool and not have a single clue of what to do since she wasn't announced as the avatar at an early age and wasn't trained early enough
• The angst between Yun and Kyoshi is my Roman Empire.. I don't ship them but like.. Their so damm interesting to think about.. Their like Roku and Sozin if that even make sense?
• Anyways Jinpa is best boy
• Kyoshi for fuck sake stop calling rangi your friend after you guys literally made out in front of jinpa
#Avatar Kyoshi#Kyoshi Novels#the rise of kyoshi#the shadow of kyoshi#kyoshi#rangi#jianzhu#yun#jinpa#hei ran#kelsang#yeah that's it#im not tagging the other characters 😭#rangshi#avatar chronicles#atla#lok

Two Knives Chapter 4: Kyoshi- Interruptions
Characters: Rangi and Kyoshi (RoK characters tbh)
Pairing: Rangshi
Summary:
Things have been stressful for Kyoshi. First, she sang a poem and now the whole kitchen staff thinks it’s about Rangi, and is sure that there will be gossip. Then, Yun asks her to join him for the Fifth Nation treaty signing. Now Rangi’s acting strange. It’s becoming a bit much for Kyoshi’s small corner of the world.
(Canon Divergent AU- Kelsang wasn’t the one who heard the poem?….aka What if it took longer for them to realize Kyoshi was the Avatar?)
Other Sites: AO3
A/N: I’m not the best with ratings, and as I was writing more chapters….it got more suggestive than I originally intended at the beginning of writing this fic. u_u So I’m changing this from T to M. Just to be safe. Sorry if that upsets anyone. ;w; (it won’t be anything that goes too into it but…still…ajfkdlsjf TT0TT)
Ok ok! I know I said that we’d be getting a few Rangi POV chapters next…..but I realized these next chapters work better (imo) if we don’t know what’s going on in Rangi’s little noggin. u_u That being said, I hope I’ve laid a few breadcrumbs for y’all to pick up on what might’ve been going on, but if not….hey, it’s all good, that’s what her POVs are for (which you’ll get…..eventually!)! :’D
Also, getting this chapter a liiiiittle early because…..I finished some other chapters pretty fast considering the restructuring I had to do ajsfdklj TT0TT Anyway….
*sprays Rangi with water* Down girl. *sprays Kyoshi too* You too!
_________
Early morning rays seeped into Kyoshi’s room. The beam slowly maneuvered its way across her bed and over her eyes. It was as if the sun had a vendetta against the tall girl.
Kyoshi’s eyebrows furrowed over the sudden intrusion, and she went to move one of her arms to lay across her face, but found them both to be preoccupied. With great effort, and great resentment to the floating orb in the sky, she opened her eyes.
Kyoshi was on her back in bed, a normal and everyday occurrence. However, there was something different about this morning. One that sent Kyoshi instantly to cloud nine.
Nuzzled up against her side, with a possessive arm and leg flung over Kyoshi, was Rangi. The firebender was fast asleep, her face nuzzled into the base of Kyoshi’s neck, murmuring every so often. The sound of it reverberated through Kyoshi’s body like a drum, bouncing back and forth in tandem with the heat Rangi also radiated.
Kyoshi held her by the waist with one arm, and held the thigh of the leg that was slung over her stomach with the other; there to keep Rangi firmly in place. Rangi did her part too, as she grounded and clung to Kysohi’s body fiercely even in her sleep.
Memories of last night’s bliss began to flood Kyoshi’s mind, and she hummed contently. She could get use to this.
Kyoshi’s cheek rested on top of Rangi’s head, she moved her head down to get a better look at the room, and to kiss Rangi’s soft hair. They made sure to take it out of its intricate style before falling asleep. The hairpins and ties were still on Kyoshi’s night stand.
Kyoshi looked towards the door, Rangi’s dress and the towel laid near it. The dress was ruined beyond all repair, but the towel could probably still be salvaged. Kyoshi resisted the urge to go over and clean up the mess.
Rangi made another noise and nuzzled closer- as if it was possible to get closer, the girl was practically welded to Kyoshi’s body already- into Kyoshi’s neck. Kyoshi took the hand that was on Rangi’s waist, and rubbed up and down from her waist to her hip in a soothing fashion. Rangi sighed contently and seemed to return to a restful sleep.
Kyoshi smiled and stopped the motion, instead choosing to play with the fabric of the tunic and trousers she’d given Rangi to wear. Kyoshi was certain they were two sizes too big for the firebender, the girl was practically swimming in Kyoshi’s clothes.
Kyoshi could only imagine how funny and adorable Rangi would look walking around the estate looking like that.
Then Kyoshi stopped breathing for a moment.
Wait, THE ESTATE!
Panic shot through her. It was daylight, which meant the estate’s staff were going to wake up soon, if they weren’t already up. How was she going to sneak Rangi back to her room? She couldn’t go back looking like this, it’d dishonor her! They needed to get up! She needed to get Rangi back to her room! She-
Rangi shifted in her sleep again, and the head hole of the too large tunic fell around one of her shoulders.
Kyoshi stared at the unguarded flesh, completely forgetting whatever she was thinking about. Kyoshi lifted her hand from Rangi’s waist, and proceeded to trace patterns onto her shoulder. Mesmerized.
“That tickles you jerk,” Rangi mumbled, bemused.
Kyoshi flinched, startled. “Sorry, did I wake you?”
Rangi hummed. “Not really, I think I’ve been awake for a while.”
Kyoshi raised an eyebrow. “Oh really?”
“Yeah I just didn’t want to get up. If I’m being honest, I was hoping I’d fall back asleep.”
Kyoshi let out a gasp of mock shock. “Sleeping in? No way! Who are you and what have you done with Rangi?”
Rangi laughed and shifted to prop herself up on one of her elbows. She looked at Kyoshi with warm eyes. Like melting chocolate. “Can you blame me? Not wanting to leave your side?”
Kyoshi stared at the beautiful girl next to her in reverence. “No, because I feel the same way.”
Kyoshi watched as Rangi’s expression changed, it shimmered from tender and chaste to something of wanting. She watched as Rangi’s lips slowly parted, and her eyes gazed down towards Kyoshi’s lips. Kyoshi started to lean in when Rangi put her hand on Kyoshi’s chest, stopping her.
Rangi smiled mischievously, and then moved her body so she was sitting up, straddling Kyoshi’s hips. She closed her eyes and started pushing her hair back, combing her fingers through it. Seemingly unaware of how hot and bothered Kyoshi was getting.
“Now look at me. You’ve made me derelict to my duties.” Once she was finished with her hair, she placed a hand on Kyoshi’s chest and leaned forward, towering over her. “Now how are you going to take responsibility?”
Kyoshi gazed up at Rangi and gulped. Unsure of what to do, she grabbed Rangi by the hips.
Rangi hummed and leaned closer. “Bold move.”
Their lips were just ghosting over each other's when a gong rang out, indicating that the day was starting for a lot of the staff.
Saved by the bell? No, more like ruined by the damn bell.
The two scrambled to get out of bed as Kyoshi groaned and Rangi laughed. Rangi’s hand shot for the nightstand and tried to get her topknot back in order, and Kyoshi tried to gather the damaged clothes.
Kyoshi watched as Rangi finished with her topknot and started walking towards her. She watched as Rangi’s leg brushed up against the bed a bit, and saw the wince and hiss of air that came from Rangi.
Kyoshi dropped what she was doing and quickly made her way to Rangi’s side. “What’s the matter?”
Rangi waved her away as she made a motion to grab her leg, and then stopped. But it was too late, Kyoshi already noticed something was up. “It’s nothing, don't worry about it.”
Kyoshi made her sit on the bed, they’d deal with the walk of shame later, she needed to treat Rangi if she was hurt.
“Don’t move,” Kyoshi ordered, she received a sigh from Rangi, but the firebender complied. Kyoshi slowly rolled up the black pant leg until she was met with resistance and a flinch from Rangi.
“Sorry, I thought it stopped bleeding before I put them on…..”
Bleeding?! Kyoshi tried not to rush, and gently pried the fabric away from this surprise wound.
When she finally managed to roll the fabric over Rangi’s knee, Kyoshi was met with an unpleasant looking cut.
Rangi made a sucking noise with her teeth. “Oh…. right…. I forgot about that.”
“Forgot?!” Kyoshi cursed herself for not realizing Rangi was injured earlier. How could she have not seen it?! Then she remembered she made a point to look away when Rangi was changing, to give her privacy, thus missing her opportunity to have noticed it sooner. “Who did this to you?”
“Myself, I dropped a glass at the party and….just forgot,” Rangi shrugged.
“For-ugh, what?! How can you just forget?”
“I had something more important on my mind,” Rangi shrugged again.
“What was so important?!” Kyoshi was starting to get a little angry. How could Rangi just disregard her own wellbeing like that.
Rangi leaned back on her hands, the neckline of the shirt falling so far down her shoulder that it teased showing her bindings. “You.” She picked up her good foot and rubbed it along Kyoshi’s forearm, teasing her. “I needed to get to you.”
Kyoshi’s face got hot and then she gulped, remembering Rangi’s confession from the night before.
She pressed the back of her hand to her mouth, trying to cover her blush, and stood up. “Stay there. If you don’t then….then I’ll-I won’t talk to you for a week!”
Rangi pouted at that. “Where are you going?”
“I’m going to run and get a basin of water and some soap, we need to clean that wound.”
Rangi sighed, “We’re going to be late.”
“We’re already late, what’s a little longer?” Kyoshi shrugged. Then a smile broke across her face. “Plus, it’s me who’s late. I don’t think anyone else knows you’re here. You can probably just stay in here and just wait until I come back.”
Kyoshi looked at Rangi’s wide eyes, and Kyoshi matched it. Along with her blush growing stronger as she thought of Rangi being in her room the entire day. Or whatever the proposition might’ve sounded like. Almost like a husband coming home to see their wife after a long day’s work. “Or not! I dunno-I’m going to go get some water!”
Kyoshi hurried through the door, and swore she heard Rangi snort with laughter as she left.
______
“So why do you have a medical kit in your room?” Rangi asked, fiddling with a bottle of salve while Kyoshi dabbed the soapy water onto her leg.
“Because I’m clumsy?”
Rangi raised an eyebrow. “Is ‘clumsy’ another name that Aoma brat goes by?”
Kyoshi rolled her eyes as she took the bottle from Rangi and dabbed the salve onto the wound. “No…… But… yes, sometimes the village kids give me issues. But you’d be surprised how clumsy I can be.”
“Enlighten me,” Rangi looked unamused.
“Well, a few weeks ago I walked into the shed and stepped on a rake and it flew up and hit me in the face!” Kyoshi grinned as she started wrapping Rangi’s leg.
Rangi bit her lip trying not to smile.
“Oh and then just the other day I was daydreaming and accidentally poured a third of the koi feed into the pond without realizing,” Kyoshi laughed as she finished tying up the bandage.
Rangi giggled, “Really? What were you daydreaming about?”
Kyoshi placed a hand on Rangi’s knee and rested her cheek on it. She looked up at Rangi. “Thinking of your body against mine back at the iceberg.”
Rangi’s body tensed and her breath hitched. Kyoshi moved her free hand and caressed Rangi’s other knee. Then she slowly moved her hand up her thigh. “Your lips on my hand.”
She moved her hand up Rangi’s hip, then to the hem of the shirt. Fingers sliding underneath the fabric, and licking at the abs underneath. Rangi shuddered and drew a haggard breath. “What’d it’d feel like to actually kiss you.”
She slowly sat up and started to close the distance from where she knelt, Rangi bent forward in response, placing a hand under Kyoshi’s chin and-
“Kyoshi?! Kyoshi? Are you in there? Are you awake yet?” a voice accompanied by knocking rang from Kyoshi’s door.
Kyoshi jolted from surprise and fell backwards, crashing onto the floor and knocking into the basin. Water splashed all over Kyoshi and the floor.
“Kyoshi?! Are you ok in there? What was that?” There was a sound of the door about to be open.
“I’M FINE! I’LL BE RIGHT THERE!” Kyoshi all but screeched as she scrambled up to stop the door from being open. Rangi quickly ran to the blindspot behind the door, and Kyoshi kicked Rangi’s dress over to her as she opened the door.
“Kyoshi? You still haven’t gotten up?” Rin, another maid that Kyoshi worked with, asked. Her eyes widened at the state Kyoshi and her room, at least what she could see of it, was. “What happened to you?!”
“Roughnight,” Kyoshi said a little too fast.
“Oh…. I see.. Um, why is your face all red?”
“Sunburnt!”
“Oh, get some ointment on that then. Ugh, spirits, open a window too! Why is it so hot in your room?”
“P-poor ventilation?” Come to think of it, Rangi did emit a lot of heat. Kyoshi was enjoying it too much to realize the difference until now.
Rin grimaced. “That’s the worst. Anyway, Auntie Mui wants you in the kitchen, I think she has a list of errands for you.”
“Ok, thanks Rin! I’ll get on that in a moment!”
“Alright, just be quick, you know how she gets-”
Kyoshi slammed the door a little too forcefully. She waited until she heard the footsteps were far enough away before she turned around. When she turned to her left and saw Rangi crouched over into a ball, shaking and trying to stifle her laughter.
Kyoshi pointed an accusing finger at her. “D-don’t laugh! Y-your the one who forced your way in last ni-night! Y-you take responsibility!”
Rangi kept laughing as she stood up, and then placed a hand on Kyoshi’s chest and pushed her into a wall. “Oh, I’ll gladly take responsibility. All night long if you want.” She gave a semi-chaste kiss to Kyoshi’s neck, and then blew an air of steam onto the taller girl.
Kyoshi’s eyes swirled and was about to lose herself when Rangi took a step back. “Now get dressed, I don’t want you getting into trouble with Auntie Mui.”
“I can do that after I escort you back-”
Rangi put a finger to Kyoshi’s lips. “I can sneak back on my own.”
“What if you get caught?” Kyoshi mumbled through her finger.
“I know how to not get caught,” Rangi had said with a wink as she left Kyoshi's room with a sway to her hips. “See you later.”
Kyoshi stood there, wet, frazzled, and a big mess to clean up.
Sigh….I wish I was a waterbender…..
________
“I can’t believe you’re coming with me to the village,” Kyoshi looked down at Rangi. The firebender was in her training gear, which was just a sleeveless red tunic and some red trousers. Apparently her heirloom armor was back with Pengpeng at the moment. Kyoshi didn’t mind, it allowed her to enjoy Rangi’s biceps in the daylight.
“What’s so hard to believe?”
“I mean, I don’t think you or Yun have ever left the mansion and gone into the village,” Kyoshi ran through her two years of memories but came up blank.
“Well, if Yun can’t leave, I can’t leave,” she shrugged.
Kyoshi’s brow furrowed. “But Yun’s not here right now? How did you get away?”
She watched as Rangi’s face tensed just a bit, and then it relaxed. “I asked my mother for help, she’s guarding him while I was allowed to be dismissed.”
“Oh, that’s good! I was afraid you might’ve gotten into trouble,” Kyoshi sighed in relief.
“Enough talking about that, where do we have to go?”
Kyoshi looked at her list. “I have a list of ingredients to pick up. I think Auntie Mui wants to go all out with dinner tonight.”
Rangi leaned over, allowing her arm and head to rest lightly against Kyoshi’s body, as she looked over the list herself. “That’s a lot, it’s a good thing I’m here. I can help you carry it.”
“Hmmmm,” Kyoshi reached over and grabbed Rangi’s biceps, and gave it a light squeeze. “Yes, yes, I think you're strong enough to handle a part of my workload!”
Rangi raised an eyebrow, and flexed her muscles. The arm instantly turned into steel in Kyoshi’s hand, and Kyoshi felt her heart lurch.
“Ok, you could….probably handle….all of my workload,” Kyoshi gulped.
_________________________________
“They-guh-seriously make you do this all the time?” Rangi huffed as placed down the final crate near the back kitchen entrance.
“Not all the time, but this is usually what it entails when I have to make a trip to the village,” Kyoshi admired the way sweat glistened off of Rangi’s face and shoulders. “On the brightside, since you’re here it’s only taking me three trips instead of six!”
“Fantastic,” Rangi said with no humor in her voice as she stretched her arms. “Thank the spirits that was the last trip.”
“Tell me about it! My arms were getting tired!” Kyoshi placed the last jar down next to Rangi’s crate. The kitchen staff would come up and take the rest of it down when they were ready.
“Gah, no wonder you’re late sometimes,” Rangi looked at Kyoshi unbelievably.
“Does that mean you’ll ease up on me?” Kyoshi asked brightly.
Rangi pursed her lips and tapped her chin, pretending to be deep in thought. “Nope.”
Kyoshi’s eyes widened and took a step back in shock. “Nope?!”
“Nope,” Rangi confirmed as she walked over to straighten the lapels of Kyoshi’s robes. “I like it when people push themselves and work hard.” She finished straightening the robes with a final, hard tug. Then she looked up at Kyoshi with batting eyelashes. “I think it’s admirable.”
Kyoshi gulped. She found that she suddenly had the energy to make eight more trips, or even climb the nearby mountain.
“Hey, Kyoshi!” a voice called.
Rangi's hands quickly moved her hands behind her back, standing at attention like she usually did.
It’s just interruptions after interruptions today…. Kyoshi thought bitterly. She knew it was probably better if they weren’t too flirty out in the open like that, but that didn’t mean she didn’t want to show or receive affection.
“Hi, Lee,” Kyoshi said, turning to him.
“You finished pretty fast today, I’m impressed! Now you have time to clean the-” he stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Rangi behind Kyoshi.
Kyoshi wondered if it was because they may not have been introduced to each other yet. She never really saw Rangi chatting with the staff so perhaps that was the case? “Um, Rangi, Lee. Lee, Rangi.”
“Kyoshi, we know each other,” Rangi said dryly.
That…would make sense. While she never saw Rangi talk with other staff, it didn’t mean Rangi didn’t ever. Maybe it was when Kyoshi wasn’t around? “Oh, I didn’t realize.”
“I usually see him when I need to talk to Auntie Mui,” she clarified.
“Oh? I didn’t know you were that close with her.” Kyoshi was really surprised now! Rangi approaching someone else like that? She wondered what they talked about.
“I…..I sometimes have questions for her, that’s all,” Kyoshi could’ve sworn she heard Rangi stutter for a moment. She was really curious now, but decided to press her about it at a different time. Instead, Kyoshi turned her attention back to Lee.
Lee was wearing the biggest shit eating grin Kyoshi had ever seen.
Well that can’t be good.
“So, Kyoshi,” he started, his voice sounding like it was barely containing a giggle. “Have you told Rangi about your little song?”
Kyoshi’s heart stopped for a moment, and the blood started to drain from her face. She’d forgotten about the damn poem-song-whatever! She knew Rangi felt the same way about her, and she’d already spent two nights in the same bed together, only one being with them officially being together but still!….But all that didn’t mean the song wasn’t embarrassing! If he started singing it, she may die on the spot!
There’s also the fact that Rangi and her hadn’t exactly talked about how they wanted to express their relationship. Kyoshi didn’t know if blaring her unfiltered feelings about the girl for the whole estate to hear would be crossing the line or not.
Rangi looked at her, head tilted in curiosity. She rested one elbow in one hand, and rested her hand on her face with the other. “No, no I don’t think I have. You wrote a song?”
Kyoshi started to sweat. Rangi was only asking because she didn’t know the song was about her!
“It’s-I-it was on the spot?” Kyoshi didn’t know what to say, or how to get out of this situation. Besides throwing Rangi over her shoulder and hightailing it out of there. But that would’ve caused some rumors. Well….more rumors than she already had going on.
“Oh, but it was a lovely song!” Lee batted his eyelashes. “I can sing it if you want.”
“S-she doesn’t want to hear that-”
“I think I do, actually,” Rangi cut in. “Please, Lee, enlighten me!”
Kyoshi felt herself turn to stone as Lee sang, off-key. She was becoming one with earth, returning to the ground from whence she came.
Rangi smirked as she gave Lee a lazy clap, as Lee gave a flourishing bow in return.
“So what did you think of the song, Rangi?” Lee looked at her expectantly.
Rangi tapped her chin, thinking. “Very catchy. Tell me, Kyoshi, what inspired you to write this?”
Insanity apparently.
“I-....it was in the moment,” Kyoshi barely forced out without stuttering. She was starting to sweat nervously.
Rangi’s eyes widened, genuine surprise on her face. “Really? It was all improvised?”
“Bah! Don’t worry about that!” Lee waved his hands. “Did the song remind you of anything?”
Lee stole a glance at Kyoshi and waggled his eyebrows at her, and the remaining blood drained from Kyoshi’s face, she definitely looked like a bloodless ghost now. She was going to deck him onto his ass the first chance she got
Rangi tilted her head, confused. “Hm? No, why?”
Lee’s smile faltered. “Because I’m pretty sure it was based on someone!”
Rangi closed her eyes and thought. “The spirit of one of the Eastern Earth Kingdom islands?”
Kyoshi sighed in relief. The spirits weren’t forsaking her today.
“What?! No! Why-”
“Because that spirit is known for wielding bronze daggards?”
Lee spluttered. “No! It’s someone who’s lives here-”
“The Avatar is back!” someone shouted.
Kyoshi, Rangi, and Lee looked upward and saw a bison approaching. Kyoshi grinned. Both from being saved from further embarrassment, and because her other friend was back.
“C’mon, let’s go greet them!” Kyoshi exclaimed as she grabbed Rangi’s hand. As they ran, she could’ve sworn she heard Rangi click her tongue.
_______
“Avatar. Masters,” Kyoshi and Rangi said in unison as they approached the bison and bowed. They’re faces back to their usual business expression.
Yun looked at them and gave them a subdued smile, which stretched out into his usual grin.
“It’s great seeing my two favorite girls again!” He held his arms outstretched and ran to them, wrapping one arm below Kyoshi’s shoulders, the highest he could reach, and the other around the top of Rangi’s. Kyoshi could’ve sworn she heard Rangi make a noise, but it was so small it could’ve been the wind.
Yun turned to Kyoshi first. “Everything running smoothly still? Master Kelsang is recovering well?”
“Yes, I think he’ll be able to leave the infirmary soon!” Kyoshi grinned. Kelsang’s wounds had been looking so much better since the iceberg. He looked like he would make a full recovery soon.
Yun smiled at her. “That’s great to hear, I can’t wait to see him up and around the mansion again.”
Yun turned to Rangi and put a hand on her shoulder, his smile disappearing and a worried look replaced it. “How about you, Rangi? Are you feeling ok?”
Rangi gave him a rare, extra friendly smile. “Of course, never better.”
Yun returned the smile and squeezed her shoulder gently. “That’s good, I was worried when Hei-Ran said you felt so ill that you had to leave.”
Kyoshi looked at Rangi, shocked. Had she felt ill? Did Kyoshi miss that too? But didn’t Rangi say she came here to see Kyoshi? Was that a lie, or did she lie to the Avatar so she could see Kyoshi? What was going on?
Kyoshi glanced over at the Masters, but they didn't seem to care about what was going on with the teenagers in front of them. So Kyoshi decided it was just her imagination running wild.
Rangi kept her smile up. “Yes, I was feeling under the weather, must’ve been the rain. I’m feeling much better now.”
“Then I suppose you wouldn’t mind helping everyone unpack, right? Since you’re feeling better?”
“Of course not, it’d be my pleasure.”
Kyoshi watched as her two friends exchanged pleasant smiles, and then watched as Rangi walked over to Pengpeng.
Yun turned back to Kyoshi. “Kyoshi, if I could-”
“Kyoshi! There you are, Auntie Mui needs-” Rin stopped in her tracks as she rounded the corner. She didn’t realize the Avatar and his companions happened to be there. She bowed. “Avatar, Masters.”
Kyoshi turned to Yun. “Sorry Yun, is it-”
Yun put his hand up, “Don’t worry about it, go perform your duties. What I’d like to discuss can wait.”
As Kyoshi bowed in thanks and turned to leave, as she did, she could’ve sworn she heard a choking noise come from Rangi as the firebender lifted one of the luggages. She briefly wondered if it was her leg, but when she looked at Rangi’s expression, it looked like the firebender was biting back a smile.

A/N: So like…..looking at the text, I don’t think Rangi nor Yun have EVER gone into the village during the whole two years they’ve lived there. I mean, they’ve left the mansion, but like to go to other places. Not to go into town. It’s the only thing that makes sense, such as Aoma’s gang never confronting Rangi before and Rangi only just now catching Aoma’s name (that we know about, I WOULD NOT be surprised if Rangi did some little midnight info digging jksajdf).
I mean it makes sense. Yun can’t leave, so Rangi can’t leave. I think Generations had a few scenarios where they do go into town, but I THINK that’s after the jar incident. Pre-jar incident they never do (so works in Generations canon and can fit into RoK). But yeah, I’m going off the text and that’s what I get from it.

headcanons of kuruk with his failed team avatar in the early years (no angst, no suffering, only peace and imagination …) (i forgot many canon wise things.. forgive and forget)
Jianzhu
• He’s Jianzhu’s first true friend, though he’d never admit that. Jianzhu understands Kuruk in a way others fail to. He sees the incredible things Kuruk does and the corrections he’s made upon teacher’s who are meant to be teaching him. It makes Jianzhu think that the Avatar’s greatness is inevitable. He wants to stay around and be a witness to it.
• One of the first things Kuruk came to learn about the young earthbender was that besides them being a year apart in age— he was very afraid of losing everything he worked for. In one of their many talks to pass the time after training, he admitted this. Kuruk tried to understand, using his status as the Avatar— ‘I’m scared to mess up. I don’t want to lose people’s faith in me,’ but Jianzhu shook his head, it wasn’t the same.
“You’re the Avatar. You have something to fall back on. The entire world opens their hand for you.”
And it’s such an intimate thing to learn about him. That he’s scared to lose who he is, what he owns, what his family built. [This ties into evil-old-man-Jianzhu who used his companionship with the late Avatar to his advantage. He’d do anything to maintain control and power; the fear of losing something that’s his stunts him]
• smart on their own, idiots when paired together.
•Kuruk was fired as a wingman for Jianzhu, he’d only been one once or twice, but both times were a shitshow. Jianzhu would try all the moves Kuruk taught him, even said a handful of cheesy lines that made his ears red to a person who caught his sights. And it was a bust, because they barely past a glance at him. No, because they were too busy staring at Kuruk.
“Maybe you aren’t doing it right, friend…”
“Oh, is that what it is.” Jianzhu barely hid the sarcasm dripping in his voice. Either Kuruk’s being polite, or he didn’t realize the problem in question was him! He’s handsome (DOWN).
• Jianzhu lost 10 times over while playing against Kuruk in Pai Sho. On the 11th rematch Kuruk pretends to make a faulty move for his friend’s sanity. Jianzhu knows its a pity win but takes it. He’s mostly amazed about the reckless moves Kuruk uses because it still aides him into victory!!?
“There’s just no way.” Jianzhu gasps, astonished. “Teach me how you did that,”
Kuruk laughs, “Ah. The student becomes the teacher.”
“On second thought...”
• They’re most likely to butt heads over trivial matters like similar folklores that their own nation has renditions of, but they think the other is ruining the story.
They’re all camped out, Kelsang fast asleep, and Jianzhu decides to tell Hei Ran a haunting tale she’s never heard of. Kuruk cuts him off once he’s halfway through the story.
Kuruk groans, “That is so not how it goes.”
Jianzhu snaps his head to the Avatar. “Yes it is?! She back talked to her mom six different times and turned into a lizard-snail for six weeks!”
“Uh. No! She didn’t accept her mother’s arranged marriage for her, so her mom cursed her into a lizard-snail until she did for six weeks! That’s why it’s called Mother’s Curse. Idiot.”
“That’s not—! What—! You…! Okay, let’s say that’s how it went. What would be the lesson? The whole point of Mother’s Curse is that the child shouldn’t have backed talk.”
“The whole point of Mother’s Curse is that the mother was evil, and didn’t care about what her daughter wanted?(???!) It’s to make kids appreciate how their parents wouldn’t do something sinister like that to them!”
“That… is the stupidest thing I ever heard.”
“YOU’RE STUPID.”
Safe to say that Hei Ran doesn’t stick around and goes to her tent, away from the idiots who continue to argue about who is more stupider.
•oh and during Kuruk’s hoe era Jianzhu turned a blind eye and said ‘well shit, he gotta do whatever he can to go about his day. Not my business.’
•silly silly silllllllly vibes. Silly. Ridiculous. One piece level of comedy.
•In conclusion … Jianzhu feels a deep connection with Kuruk. He’s amazed with him!! He believes this guy is the real deal, and its a honor to see what Kuruk could do or will be in the near future. Kuruk isn’t nervous by the blind faith Jianzhu has in him, it actually keeps him going. Friendship Is Magic…….
Song that remind me of their dynamic: It Wasn’t Me
Kelsang
• started off at a rocky start since Kuruk did try to steal his sky bison, but being around someone as silly as Kuruk became contagious. I imagine Kelsang laughing before Kuruk even got to the punchline, and this kinda drew the two together. There’s so much seriousness and rules and customs, it becomes tedious after a point, yet Kuruk makes it all so laughable …? Unserious? A sort of ‘what was I so worried about’ feeling. Childlike almost. FREE.
• Kuruk instantly got air bending in his first lessons from the air nomads, which fits due to his laid back go with the flow personality. He tries showing Kelsang random moves and ideas that keep popping off in his mind like rapid fire. Kelsang thinks it's... pretty impressive.
“This feels so much more different than the other elements. Everything is so… weightless. Are there any personal moves of yours that you’ve created?” Kuruk asked while balancing himself on an airball.
Kelsang shook his head no, confused. At this, Kuruk immediately got up and starting flailing his hands around, creating motion. “Oo! I wanna show you this idea that I haven't shown anyone besides like-- Jianzhu. I think it could really be helpful!
As he demonstrates a peculiar airbending maneuver with ease, Kelsang stands up straight, in awe. Maybe he had judged him too quickly.
• because of his height and rather serious resting face, Kelsang can come across as intimidating, but that is all destroyed by seeing him with Kuruk, he looks his age and more approachable. Kuruk calls him baldy as a nickname, to tease. Kelsang occasionally answers back with ‘pretty boy’, because, *drops hands* well, that’s what #they keep telling us about him.
• It is my personal belief that out of all of them, Kelsang is who Kuruk would’ve confessed to about the spirits. Not that he would ask him for help or go into the exact details of what its doing to his body, but in a complete what-if scenario,,,, the air nomad would have the words that could reassure Kuruk of this enormous responsibility he feels on the daily. [Remember, Kuruk ran into Kelsang with his poem he had written for Hei Ran. It’s less humiliating and less shameful seeking the air nomad out for matters that he can’t hold inside anymore. There’s never judgement. Maybe a shared fear? A frantic voice that could tell Kuruk right from wrong, in his best way. Never judgement.]
• okay i lied a little angst just this once DAMN… So as we know. Everyone who mattered in Kuruk’s life felt this enormous guilt that they failed him somehow. I like to believe that finding Kuruk in his next life, being a parental figure for Kyoshi, loving her like a father would love their own— while believing Yun was the next Avatar. Not realizing until she read Kuruk's poem word for word. To learn that he had still managed to bridge this connection with his old friend again. Without even intentionally doing so? Without even KNOWING. I think the weight of his failures as a companion left right then. Because he made up for it. Whatever it is he believed he lacked in, he pulled through for his final moments with Kyoshi. Not that Kuruk's spirit ever held blame for Kelsang. It’s just so interesting because we know the whole: do you really think friendships could last more than one lifetime? but they usually know who their deceased friend is in their next life. (((Kelsang you reallll as hell. Idc about the typhoon shit, YOU ARE REALLLLLL.))))
song that reminds me of them : Lean On Me
Hei-Ran
• Kuruk doesn’t know when to shut up around Hei Ran, he’s kind of … obsessed. Loser-lover-boy.
• Hei Ran thought of him slightly childish, but overtime, similarly to Kelsang, the atmosphere around Kuruk was drawing her in. There was something contagious about the northern water tribe boy.
While teaching him how to firebend, she wasn’t really surprised that he’d have such difficulty with it. His personality didn’t really mesh with what it would take to punch and kick out bursts of flames. Kuruk’s kind of frustrated with himself because he was getting the hang of all the elements with little to no effort, and here he was in front of the beautiful Hei Ran of all people, huffing and puffing because small smoke was all that emits from his inner flame.
Hei Ran does one last command, tells him to let the fire in him erupt, to let the flame in him out, (don’t you want to go ape shit ? essentially) and finally something clicks within Kuruk and he’s firebending in front of the best firebender he knows.
“I did it! I really did it!”
“Good job, though there’s gonna be many more lessons for you to learn, so don’t get too ahead of— And he’s burning down a tree.”
“Hei Ran! Help!”
• Kuruk likes to stay behind during their group walks to other villages because Hei Ran is usually there walking gracefully behind Kelsang and Jianzhu. She eyes Kuruk suspiciously, wondering what he’s up to. Its a game they play, where he says something to see if he can get that overly serious no-funny-business wall of hers to crack, get her to smile or laugh or even tell him off. All three works most times, and for the other, she holds a set stare ahead and Kuruk grumbles, giving up his charade and walking besides her in silence. Missing the slight tilted ends of pink lips. She likes seeing him try so hard, the dude never knew what it was like to try to win someone over. Is this what Jianzhu feels?
• He’s a great listener. Hei Ran can talk and talk and talk, and he’d retain it all. It makes her feel good. That someone cares, that Kuruk is genuine and (corny alert) wears his heart on his sleeves. She wants to protect him. She wants to know everything about him, and so he tells her everything. There’s this earnest about Kuruk. He doesn’t hide from her. He doesn’t deceive her. She can read him so well, and in turn, so does he.
•Hei Ran never imagined she’d be friends with someone like Kuruk, recalling her bit harsh judgement, but now she can’t imagine knowing anyone else. A part of her yearns to stay by his side. And Kuruk feels like he’s on cloud nine whenever Hei Ran so much as scoffs at his lame mannerisms. His heart thuds, hands clammy, lips forever smiling.
•They’re laying down on a field of grass, watching the sky in an array of pretty colors as the sun sets over the horizon; Kuruk insisted they catch a break after all the firebending training.
“My folks really want to meet you.” Kuruk says.
“You talk about me to them?” Hei Ran tries to keep her tone leveled, but her heartbeat picks up, fiddling around a strand of Kuruk’s hair on her finger.
“Yeah. Maybe too much. Not enough if you ask me.”
“I’d love to meet them. When should we?”
“Hopefully soon, it’s not freezing cold around this time of year. Heh, I can’t imagine you near snow. You’d look so out of place,” he laughs, eyes crinkling. Hei Ran fought off laughing along for dignity sake.
“Please. You make it sound like I’m gonna freeze and die.”
“Don’t you worry, I’ll hug you the entire way there. I won’t let you catch a cold or anything, just stick beside me and—” Kuruk reached for her, face ridiculously close, lips puckered up and leaning. Hei Ran rolled her eyes at this lame show, shoving him away. He burst into a fit of laughter.
Hei Ran turned her attention back to the endless sky while his laughter faded in the background. Going to the Northern Water Tribe. Meeting Kuruk’s family. It’ll be an honor to meet the people who shaped him and made him what he is.
song that reminds me of them : >\\\< You Don’t Know My Name
#failed team avatar#i was gonna be a dickhead and write about how hei ran never got to meet his family or anything bc kuruk starts messing around with other pp#i mean they werent official or anything but it still kills her… men amirite#jianzhu#i bet ur wondering where the jianruk crumbs are… *pearl voice* IM MARRIEDDDD#yall don’t understand i love friendship so much that i make it gay. but i wont ever erase it from its original purpose… platonic hive rise#kelsang#kels… im so sadddddd#u know jianzhu calls him kels? makes u think#ahhhhh#long ass post#avatar kuruk

Turning Anger into Peace: The Transformative Practice of Patient Acceptance, https://selflessanatta.com/turning-anger-into-peace-the-transformative-practice-of-patient-acceptance/
New Post has been published on https://selflessanatta.com/turning-anger-into-peace-the-transformative-practice-of-patient-acceptance/
Turning Anger into Peace: The Transformative Practice of Patient Acceptance
Identifying the causes of anger and mastering the art of patient acceptance to conquer anger.
In the Buddha’s Third Noble Truth, he taught that true cessation of human suffering exists.
The suffering of jealousy ceases with the practice of rejoicing.
See: The Joyful Cure: How Rejoicing Leads to the Cessation of Jealousy
The suffering of attachment ceases by meditating on impermanence.
The suffering of negative Karma ceases by practicing purification and moral discipline.
And the suffering of anger ceases with the practice of patient acceptance.
Eckhart Tolle’s Pain Body
For most people, anger comes easily, and meditating on anger is nearly effortless. Once anger takes over, it becomes self-sustaining.
Eckhart Tolle identified this phenomenon and gave it a name, the Pain Body.
He found the concept useful because it allows people to disidentify from anger and pain, which facilitates managing symptoms more effectively.
youtube
What is Anger?
The following is adapted from How to Solve Our Human Problems by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.
Anger is a focused mind that identifies an animate or inanimate object, finds it unattractive, exaggerates its bad qualities, and wishes to harm it.
For example, incels, involuntarily celibate men, are angry at women.
They identified the objects of their anger, women who reject them.
They find these women’s rejection unattractive, immediately transforming the woman they desired into a woman they claim not to be attractive.
They exaggerate these women’s imagined bad qualities. And often, these incels want to harm the women who reject them, often through fantasies of subjugation and even outright violence.
In its milder forms, this anger expresses itself through vile comments on internet forums and the consumption of degrading pornography.
In its destructive forms, it comes out in acts of terrible violence against women.
The many faults of anger
Anger, jealousy, and attachment are all disturbing states of mind that cause suffering.
These emotions make everyone afflicted engage in negative actions that lead to untold suffering for themselves and others.
Further, these emotions block any progress on the spiritual path leading to happiness or peace of mind.
Anger is a painful state of mind, a source of tremendous suffering.
Anger makes people tense and uncomfortable.
Anger makes it difficult to sleep, and even when sleep comes, it isn’t restful or refreshing.
Anger makes it difficult to enjoy activities, other than violence and cruelty, inflicting pain on others for petty revenge.
Angry people often lose their freedom of choice, driven to action without concern for consequence.
Angry people live in a state of perpetual victimhood, blaming others for their misfortunes and even the anger itself.
Anger destroys relationships.
Anger makes most people wish to retaliate against those perceived to be the cause of harm. The desire to retaliate often causes people to expose themselves to unnecessary personal danger. Actual retaliation harms others and fails to calm the angry mind.
Anger leads to personal conflict, generally causing damage to both parties. Even the victor in violent conflict is often bloodied and weakened.
Angry people have no friends. They exploit acquaintances and servants for specific needs, but every interaction becomes transactional, devoid of connection or closeness.
Anger transforms people into enemies.
Angry people make enemies of anyone who fails to submit willingly to their demands.
Angry people portray others as evil for resisting their will.
Angry people must always be vigilant against potential attacks from rivals, as enemies of their own creation always surround them.
Angry people die alone, forsaken and forgotten, shunned by all who previously cared for them.
Angry lies we tell ourselves
Most people blame others for their anger as if the other person is the cause for their internal emotional state. In fact, most people don’t question the “fact” that other people cause their anger.
It’s a lie. Each person is responsible for their own reaction.
Anyone who fails to take responsibility for their anger is completely powerless to overcome it.
They become a victim in their own mind, trapped in their angry thoughts, and they project their weakness and victimhood onto everyone else.
Perhaps another person has behaved inappropriately, acted in violence, stolen personal property, or committed any of a number of egregious acts. That person’s behavior may be the trigger for anger, and the anger may seem justified and appropriate to the situation.
However, justifiable anger based on injustice or another person’s behavior is still not the cause. The actual cause is a reaction within the person, and that person has a choice—feel angry, or practice patient acceptance and overcome the anger.
The facts remain that anger still has the full list of negative effects, even if it seems completely justified and appropriate to the circumstances.
Negating and overcoming anger when confronting injustice doesn’t make someone weak or more prone to be victimized. It makes them stronger and more resilient when negative Karma comes their way.
Anger is not protection
Many people carry their anger as a sword or a shield. They want others to fear their wrath as an inducement to behave appropriately.
Some people even use anger to manipulate others, forcing people to comply with their wishes out of fear of retribution, believing anger makes them powerful.
Sadly, many people bludgeon their way through life, manipulating everyone they encounter with their anger, and they wonder why no one likes them or believes they are a good person.
Anger is the defining characteristic of an asshole.
While this makes some people imagine they are safe and protected, this safety is an illusion. People who are determined to act in bad ways are seldom deterred by someone’s angry temper.
In fact, many people will intentionally provoke angry responses to get opponents and rivals to act rashly and commit mistakes. Provoking an enemy to act impulsively is mentioned in The Art of War, by Sun Tzu.
Other Manifestations of Anger
Anger is like fire. It starts as a spark, and if fed with confirming thoughts, and given enough time, it grows into an inferno.
However, like large fires in nature, it can grow out of control and consume everything and everyone in its path.
Buddhist practitioners seek to squelch fire at the initial spark. They abhor and avoid all manifestations of anger, including rage, spite, resentment, aggression, and harmfulness.
Many other negative states of mind, spring from anger, each has its own characteristics, and each is disturbing in its own way.
Rage is uncontrolled anger.
Resentment is formed when anger is sustained without forgetting it. The end goal is to create the desire to retaliate.
Spite is when anger has hardened into resentment, and the person wishes to speak harshly.
Aggression is an increase in anger that motivates the desire to harm others either physically or verbally.
Harmfulness is the mental state that wants to see other beings suffer, the opposite of Compassion.
Patient acceptance overcomes anger
Patient acceptance is the practice of enduring hardship, suffering, and insults without becoming disturbed or reacting with anger.
It serves as a direct antidote to anger and aversion, by maintaining a calm and composed attitude towards life’s difficulties.
It involves tolerating harm or discomfort without resentment, and understanding that anger only leads to further suffering.
It’s one of the most challenging, and yet most rewarding practices on the Buddhist path.
Practicing patient acceptance requires mindfulness and awareness of one’s mental state. By being aware of the rise of anger or frustration, practitioners can observe these emotions without taking action based on them, understanding anger’s impermanent nature.
Advanced practitioners seek to stomp out the fire of anger at the initial spark. The longer the fire is allowed to burn the more it will consume and the harder the flame is to extinguish.
When anger arises, practitioners remind themselves of the many faults of anger as outlined above. This practice is rooted in the recognition that suffering is part of existence and often a result of one’s karma; practitioners learn to accept and endure it without negative emotions.
Most who practice patient acceptance also make vows against retaliation. Besides preventing negative actions leading to bad Karma, the vow against retaliation quiets the mind as revenge thoughts become pointless wastes of energy.
Patient acceptance must be applied in everyday situations, from enduring minor inconveniences to facing significant hardships or dealing with difficult people.
Angry people view patient acceptance as a sign of weakness, but anyone who sincerely practices patient acceptance quickly recognizes it takes much more strength to endure than it does to lash out in anger and false bravado.
Patient acceptance turns challenging situations into powerful lessons for developing patience, compassion, and wisdom.
Patient acceptance is closely linked to compassion (karuna). By enduring suffering without anger, one cultivates a deep sense of empathy for others who suffer and a desire to help alleviate their suffering.
Cultivating patient acceptance brings long-term benefits, such as inner peace, resilience, and a more profound ability to cope with life’s challenges.
Patient acceptance is a fundamental practice in Tibetan Buddhism and is considered one of the six perfections (paramitas) that a Bodhisattva should cultivate on the path to enlightenment.

Kyɑ - Origens (pt.2)

Heck
Neither "heck" nor "hell" appear in my wip. :( So I give you this little passage with the word "demon" instead.
"Only Kelsang remained. Water lapped at his collarbone, and then his chin. It was all he could do to keep his head above water, let alone focus on this demon of a test he’d been given. He tried to imagine a string attached to the top of his head, pulling him higher and higher, and when the water began to tickle his nose, he finally moved to stand on his desk---only to find that his ankles had been inexplicably shackled to its legs."
#ask game#send me a word and if it appears in my wip i'll post the line in which it appears#i also wrote 337 words towards my wip for this ask!

NOT SORRY FOR SELF REBLOG BUT IM THRIVING RN.
I’m almost finish now, the first book. But dang, kyoshi out here in a pickle 😭 her guru sifu giving her a challenge that she wouldn’t like and kyoshi all “what you mean?” Until the raid happens, finding out how this important government person is….a darn CHILD. Her realisation making her feel awful then refusing to “un alive” and just yoink the child and flee. But then the kid says about her bending 2 elements making her panic twice, AND LIKE, SHE SLAPS THE KID RIGHT, BUT SHES STUPIDLY STRONG. THE KIDS FACE BLOODY😭😭😭 why she did that is not just to scare him but the things he said to her to repay kyoshi for not killing him “I’ll make you rich and wealthy”.
If y’all don’t know. Kyoshi was an orphan who was homeless for a long time. Fighting for life to survive, until her Kelsang an air bender took her in! He is a good man, how much kyoshi loved and adored him💔 ANYWAYS. Not only that, she spared the kids life, risks her identity of avatar hood, but her gang her parents gang of daofei that are still trustworthy, capture their target for this Mok guy.
Until they all realise this dude they saved is actually a massive tyrant in this even bigger thug/gang that killed thousands, that kuruk and his gang took down, only for kyoshi to undo all that. She panics for the 3rd time when the guy yells out his full name and she nearly buckled from shock along with Rangi doing similar. JUST HELLO?! IMAGINE SAVING THIS TYRANT O THIS MAFIA BOSS WHOS ALL HAPPY WITH YOU FROM SAVING HIS LIFE BUT YOUR JUST “OH HELL NAH”.
AAAA KYOSHI WTFFFF😭
I’m half way through Kyoshi’s first novel, and I love the fact her mother Jesa was an air bender who gave up the monk/nun life too join an underground gang who disguise themselves as opera singers. Like, Jesa went as far as re-tattooing her air nomad tatts too serpents and doves!! KYOSHI, YOUR MAMA IS BADASS AF GIRL!! YOOOOOOOOOOOO- then the fans! Due to the lack of spiritualness Jesa started using fans to make up the lack of air bending.
And I have a funny feeling, if they start talking about more of Kyoshi’s father and lore for him. I hope he wore/wears that make up. So the whole entire outfit/getup is a mix of both of Kyoshi’s parents.
And yes, her clothing/dress was a item/gift from the earth sage that…un alive 2 very important ppl for kyosh, the ball movement for her revenge. BUT LIKE, HER WHOLE ATTIRE IS FROM PPL SHE DOESNT LIKE 😭 poor queen.
And I love the fact Kyoshi is literally nothing like what the fandom labels her as. She’s always channels neutral jing, stand off ish from bullying, in her own little world when seeing Rangi doing fire bending stuff 😭 having dumb moments like running through like 5 houses like the coolaid man getting away from the law. How tall she is and bumps into things. KYOSHI IS A GOOBER.
#self reblog#LISTEN IM LOVING THIS#THE LORE OF KYOSHI IS SUCKING ME IN#and how Kyoshi and Rangi finally be together#LORRD THEY ARE PRECIOUS#imagine the ep when finding Toph. that underground fighting ring. imagine that but STUPID HIGH ILLEGAL FIGHTS WHERE THEY CAN KILL EACHOTHER#YEAH. RANGI GOS INTO THE RING ON HER OWN WILL TO GET AT KYOSHI#ONLY FOR TO GET K.O AND HER FACE KICKED IN!!! BROOOOOOOO MADE ME FEEL HORRID#POOR KYOSHI IS SCREAMIMG AT HER FOR IT. UNTIL RANGI PICKS UP AND WINS THE MATCH#after that shit going down. they have a lovers quarrel. yelling at eachother about duty and stuff#only for Rangi to finally cry on kyoshi. and admit she cares and loves her 😭😭😭#REMEMBER KYOSHI IS TALL SO RANGI IS TINY HUGGING HER. KYOSHI WITH THE RIZZ KISSES HER TILTING ER FACE UP#LMAO AND LIKE. RANGI IS NO! MY FACE IS BRUISED AND SWOLLEN AND MAKES KYOSHI KISS HER NECK#BOOOOOOYYYYYYYY 😭😭😭😭😭#I can’t with them!! THEY ARE STUPID CUTE. KYOSHI AND RANGI#and I have to mention. Rangi out here with the fire bender flirting. she also blows steam down Kyoshi’s neck when training#LIKE DANM 😳 that was a read and a half that was#BUT YAAALLLL. IM VIBING WITH THIS READ. ITS GOOOOOODDD

Imagine being one of Avatar Kuruk’s companions who he persues endlessly but it’s no use...you’ve fallen for his kind airbender friend Kelsang
Warning: Acephobic perceptions (which are shut down of course) also probably don’t read this if you like Kuruk or Jianzu.
To say you were one of Avatar Kuruk’s companions pained you every time. You preferred to say you were just employed by him because none of the other spiritual advisors wanted the job and as the youngest the task fell to you.
Why did you hate Avatar Kuruk so much?
Because he propositioned you more times than you could count and had an ego the size of the spirit world. You’d rejected him multiple times and yet Kuruk always came back. He’d told you numerous times it didn’t have to mean anything. It would just be fun and casual.
On his latest and current attempt he claimed he just wanted some warmth as he drifted off to sleep. In reply you told him to jump in the fireplace. Kuruk raised his hands in surrender and backed away, Jianzhu chuckling as he followed him out. It was always worse when Jianzhu was there, he egged Kuruk on and the situation went from mildly annoying to downright frustrating. Hei-ran shot you a small smirk "you know with a tongue that sharp you’d do well in the Fire Nation". You shrugged "great" your mood ruined by the avatar. It only took one interaction with Kuruk to ruin your whole day and it happened everytime. Hei-Ran noticed and sighed "you know he doesn’t mean anything by it don’t you?" she asked "I took it personally at first too but that's just Kuruk’s way. Men will be...". "If you say men I swear to god I'll backhand you all the way into the spirit world" you said sharply. He ran raised an eyebrow "I was gonna say idiots but fine, hold onto your hate". You scoffed "I have every reason to. He burns through women like a trainee firebender with candles. He hunts animals for sports and only turns up at events if alcohol or women will be present. He misuses his title and propositions me every time he gets drunk even though I’ve told him every time I will never ever sleep with him. Your anger for Kuruk was deeper than an ocean. You, being his spiritual teacher, of course understood why he neglected his avatar duties in the human world but you didn’t let that excuse his treatment of women or animals. As soon as someone took their trauma out on someone else unfairly, that’s when your pity ended.
You’d broached the topic with Kuruk before but he didn’t see the harm. It was just harmless indulgences he claimed but you didn’t see it that way. How many women had he perused who were in relationships just to leave them when it was convenient for him? How many women had he left pregnant and never helped with the child financially, physically or emotionally. You knew Kuruk never slept with the same woman twice, unless he was too drunk to remember and he didn’t exactly leave a contact me if with child card after he left so you could only imagine the chaos he had left behind in those womens’ lives. Not to mention how wrong it was for him to use his status on people in this way. While you knew Kuruk would never forced anyone to spend the night with him the power he held over them worried you. How many might feel obligated or pressured to return the Avatar’s advances? Kuruk’s reputation was well know and you’d seen many towns parade their young women right infront of him, hoping he’d actually fall in love with one or them and stay. How many of those women fully wanted to be used like that? How many women knew what they were getting into? The more you thought about it the more it angered you.
You friend Hei-Ran however always knew how to capture your attention. "So you're looking for a kind responsible man who doesn’t indulge in alcohol or other addictions, who cares for animals greatly...hmmm I wonder who comes to mind". You blushed immediately but pretended you didn’t know what Hei-Ran meant "I don’t follow". Hei-Ran rolled her eyes "Kelsang" she said simply and that name alone sent a shiver up your spine. "What about him?" you asked trying to keep your voice as calm as possible. "Seriously?" Hei-Ran asked "you're going to pretend you don't know what I mean? Act like you're not in love with him?". You babbled "that's crazy! Kelsang is just a friend. Just because we both get on doesn’t mean we’re a couple!". "I never said you were a couple, you're too scared to ever get to that stage". "I'm not scared!" you cried "and you're one to talk, you’ve never told Kuruk how you feel". Hei-ran’s smile vanished "so one second you're berating me for liking Kuruk and the next you're telling me I should tell him everything?". You shook your head "no all I'm saying is if you're going to come for me then take a look in the mirror". "So you admit how I feel about Kuruk is how you feel about Kelsang?" Hei-Ran asked and you tensed realising what you’d just done. "I never said.." you started but Hei-Ran just shook her head "one of the first thing we teach in the Fire Nation is to know when to admit defeat. You could do a lot worse than Kelsang". "Who's worse than me?" a familiar voice asked and you both froze. Hei-Ran recovered swiftly "Kuruk and Jianzhu of course! Y/n was just saying how you're the best man she knows and I couldn’t argue with her". You and Kelsang both blushed and looked anywhere but at each other. "I'm off to bed" Hei-Ran said smugly leaving you and Kelsang alone. The airbender was very tall but always had a way of looking small and adorable when embarrassed. "You’re too kind to say that about me" he said softly "I’ve done things that I'm not proud of". You nodded "I know but the fact you're not proud of them tells me you still have a conscience unlike Jianzhu and Kuruk. You did those things out of necessity, because there was no other option, not because you enjoyed them or wanted to. My statement stands. You're a great guy Kelsang". The young airbender blushed and you smiled "want to play some pai sho?" changing the subject. Kelsang shot you a grateful smile and nodded "you can go first" .
You and Kelsang sat together and lost track of time as you always did in each other’s presence. You’d become engulfed in one other and the world would just pass by without any notice. You didn’t realise how late it really was until Kuruk stumbled into the room. You jumped at the noise and Kelsang frowned "you went out drinking again?". Kuruk nodded a large grin on his face. Apparently after your rejection he decided more drinking with Jianzhu was a good idea. Kelsang mirrored your unimpressed expression and Kuruk laughed "ow come on, it was some harmless fun and it's a way for me and Jianzhu to bond! You should join us sometime instead of stating in with your book and tiles". Kelsang went to reply his idea of fun suited him perfectly well when Kuruk grinned "although considering your company I can see when you’d prefer this. A toasty little room with y/n. Playing pai sho by the fireplace...it’s the start of every innocent house call I've ever paid". You rolled your eyes "why does that not surprise me". Kuruk took your reply as encouragement and came to join the two of you. You tried to ignore him but he sat beside you and watched every move you made. "You know I could help you win it you wanted" he whispered leaning in far too close for your liking. "I'm okay thanks" you replied and Kuruk just chuckled watching you from under his eyelids like it was all some big game of cat and mouse. It made your skin crawl. Kelsang noticed and cleared his throat making Kuruk look at him "why don’t you go sleep off the hangover you're bound to have tomorrow?" he asked. Kuruk smiled "sure...if y/n joins me". You groaned "Kuruk I have told you a thousand timed I will never ever want to come to your bed". Kuruk just smiled "why? We’re both attractive young people in the height of our prime. Why not form our own spiritual connection?".
Your rejected Kuruk so many ways before and none of them had worked. You’d told him you didn’t find him attractive which he didn’t believe. You’d told him you thought it was unprofessional you being his teacher to which he replied he’d done many unprofessional things with lots of high ranking people. You pointed out there was a 6 year age gap which made you uncomfortable, Kuruk said age was but a number and you acted way more mature than him anyway. You told him you didn’t do one night stands and he told you it could be more nights if you wanted. You’d insulted him, yelled at him and even tried reasoning with him but none of it worked so you tried your last card.
"I will never want to sleep with you because I'm asexual!" you cried. Silence settled and after a pause Kuruk laughed "you're what?". You sighed "asexual. It means a person who feels little or no sexual attraction". "That's not a thing, sex is a fact of life" Kuruk smirked. "Well clearly not for everyone" you replied. "So are you some sort of monk?" Kuruk asked and Kelsang glared "Kuruk!". "No I'm not a monk" you snapped "monks are celibate but have sexual attraction they suppress. I don’t have any to suppress. I'm not celibate I just don’t have sex and don’t ever plan to". Kuruk frowned "never!" Kuruk cried like it was the worst thing in the world "what a boring existence". "Kuruk!" Kelsang scolded him again but Kuruk waved him away "no come on Kelsang you're an air nomad but you have to admit this is taking it a bit far. Everyone likes sex and does it". "Well some asexual people still have sex" you shot back "but I don’t because the idea disgusts me". Kuruk frowned "wait so does this mean you've never had sex before?". "Kuruk that's enough!" Kelsang yelled and you all froze having never heard the man raise his voice. "Asexuality is a valid sexual orientation and it is not up to y/n to answer your ignorant questions. Her lifestyle is hers and I think it’s beautiful. You of all people should refrain from judging her especially in this aspect". You stared at Kelsang awestruck and Kuruk looked down red faced. He quickly stumbled to his feet, almost over balancing due to his alcohol intake but when he was upright he glanced back. "Sorry y/n" he muttered and left. You watched him go before turning back to Kelsang "thank you" you said quietly. "You don’t have to thank me" he said softly "Kuruk was being an acephobic ass. If he ever bothers you again just let me know and I'll handle it" he said moving the next pai sho tile as if you’d never been interrupted. You nodded still kind of shook and played on in silence.
Kelsang was the next to speak "also thank you for sharing your orientation with us. It was very brave to do and I meant what I said to Kuruk. Your asexuality is beautiful and valid". You were quiet for a while and Kelsang hesitated "y/n are you..". "Thank you" you said your voice shaking as you tried not to cry. "That means a lot". Kelsang reached across the table and squeezed your hand "no problem". You looked into those kind eyes and couldn’t help expressing your feelings. "I was worried to tell you in particulat". Kelsang frowned worry coating his face "why? Have I done something insensitive in the past?". You shook your head "no just aces face a lot of rejection given how oversexualised our society is. Especially those of us who are sex repulsed and aren’t willing to compromise on that aspect. I was scared to tell you because I like you...". Kelsang sat up straighter and you stared at the ground "but not only was I unsure if you liked me back, I wasn’t sure if youd be happy living a sex free lifestyle with me...and people think normal dating is hard" you finished trying to joke but it came out as more sad than funny. "Y/n look at me" Kelsang said suddenly and you looked up to find him still holding onto your hand a smile on his face. "I like you too". Your heart leapt "you do?". He nodded "i do. You have such a big heart and the way you care for every animal you see is so wholesome. I love how you're optimistic but not naive and how you never hesitate to educate someone or point of they're being ignorant. Your morals align with my own and I just get lost every time I'm in your presence. I'd love to date you if that's the sort of relationship you’d like. If not we can work our something else". You couldn’t believe this was happening but you had to make sure one thing was clear. "And about my asexuality is that something you're okay with?". "Y/n of course it is! I love you not just what you can do or compromise for me. Your sex aversion is not an issue for me at all. I'm more than happy expressing our bond in non-physical means and I always preferred the emotional parts of a relationship more than the physical anyway. In that aspect I think we'll be very happy because I've never felt connected to anyone like I feel to you". "You're...I...I'm so happy" you cried and flung yourself into the large airbender’s arms. You were rather muscular and tall but it was nothing for the giant of an airbender who caught you easily and hugged you closely. "I am too" he smiled kissing the top of your head "I'm the luckiest airbender alive...also Pengpeng is going to be so happy when I tell him! He likes you more than me". "I can’t imagine anyone not having you as their favourite" you replied turning to stare up at the airbender and Kelsang smiled "that's odd because I wasnt going to say the same thing about you". You blushed even more and relaxed into Kelsang’s arms feeling safe and valid. Maybe being one of Kuruk’s companions wasn’t too bad...as long as Kelsang was there too.
_____
So yes I’ve read the Kyoshi Novels and no I don’t think that excuses Kuruk’s behaviours...but enough about him!
Kelsang was one (and there were many) of my favourite parts of the kyoshi novels. I have a thing for really confident girls (Azula and Kuvira) or really adorable guys (Bolin) and hence this imagine was born.
Also I realise Kelsang is older but this was obviously back when he was a young airbender so don’t worry I’m not crushing on a 60 year old man!

I remember having to go down the line of teachers at my high school graduation, shaking hands with each one. When I came to my art teacher I assumed he would go in for a handshake but he surprised me with a hug, and told me he was proud of me. It was the only moment in my graduation when I felt I may cry.
#personal#rambles#reading kyoshi fics and i just#cant help but imagine kelsang giving kyoshi a hug and telling her hes proud of her

I finished reading Shadow of Kyoshi a few days ago and now I have thoughts about Kuruk and his Team Avatar.
Spoilers from both The Rise of Kyoshi and The Shadow of Kyoshi under the cut.
First of all - his friends.
In all honesty, his friends sucked, except for the fire sage. They were horrible people except for Kelsang. I think they were kind of shit people to begin with, just that the chaotic time after Kuruk’s death made them worse than they already were.
I mean, Jianzhu was allegedly a good person before Kuruk died and he became so influential in the Earth Kingdom. But, he massacred a shit-ton of people at some point after Kuruk’s death, even if they weren’t innocent, and shows no remorse for it at all. He becomes known as the Gravedigger and is hated and feared by the daofei. He later abuses Yun, turning him into a trained killer, and does unspeakable things in order to possess and control the Avatar. The fact that Yun or Kyoshi was his old friend’s reincarnation didn’t seem to matter to him.
Hei-Ran had the highest number of “accidental” kills in the Fire Academy. And she also played a role in the abuse Yun went through, who again, they all thought was Kuruk’s reincarnation.
Kelsang is the least worst, mostly because he showed remorse for the dirty shit he did to keep peace in the Earth Kingdom, and didn’t take part in abusing Yun (he probably didn’t even know about it). He even tried to protect Kyoshi from Jianzhu and paid for it with his life. He was mostly just a terrible friend. I mean, what kind of close friend reacts to their friend’s love confession poem by making him destroy it? It’s unbelievably cruel. And even if he didn’t mean to cause a massacre through his air-bending, he still is culpable for those deaths and Tagaka was right to hate him for what he did.
Now - their friendship with Kuruk. I don’t think any of them were that close friends with him. Maybe they were true companions to the Avatar, but not true close friends to Kuruk. Hell, the fire sage looked like he was a better friend than the three of them. They stuck with him during the good times, but when he started secretly spiralling (ie. getting drunk, partying, womanizing) they apparently just assumed that he was being lazy and selfish and purposefully not doing his duty as the Avatar.
At the very end, they view him as a disappointment of an Avatar and think negatively about him. Jianzhu thinks about his death as “the only time he was ever early for anything”. Hei-Ran complains about Kuruk’s fire sage friend ruining him. Kelsang also doesn’t share any positive memories of Kuruk, as far as I can tell--the only memory he shares is the time he yelled at Kuruk and made him destroy the love poem he wrote.
Contrast this with how Rangi and Kyoshi’s friends thinks about Kyoshi. “You may be the Avatar, but there is only one Kyoshi”. Rangi is focused on Kyoshi becoming the best Avatar she can be, but she clearly cares about her as an individual as well. She and Kyoshi’s other friends care about her well-being, insisting that she look after herself properly. We see the same thing with Aang and his friends, and Korra and her friends. They all love and care about their Avatar as a person first and Avatar second.
I do not see that in Kuruk’s Team Avatar. To me, it just looks like Kuruk’s friends were mainly focused on training him to be a good Avatar and didn’t know him that well as a person, at least not enough to care unconditionally about him. So when he seemingly started shirking his Avatar duties and doing what they coined “being Kuruk”, they were disappointed and treated him like a failing Avatar first instead of someone who needed help.
I cannot imagine the Gaang or Korra’s friends treating Aang or Korra the way Kuruk’s friends treat Kuruk.
Finally, Kuruk.
Kuruk is a total sweetheart and his friends didn’t deserve him. Is he flawed? Yes. Did he make mistakes? Hell yes. But he’s also actually a very sweet guy who tried to do his best with the situation he found himself in.
He loved his friends so much. In his flashback passages, you can clearly see just how much he loves them and it’s so heart-breaking how they end up believing the worst of him. And he chose to keep his spirit hunting secret from them, to protect them from what the dark spirits had done to him.
They really didn’t deserve him. I do wonder if Kuruk might have been a bit blind to their worse flaws? Or maybe he just loved them anyway.
And that’s pretty much all I have to say about this right now. I’ll probably write up more of my thoughts later, about Kuruk’s relationship with Kyoshi and Yangchen, why I think Kelsang behaved terribly during the love poem incident, and about Hei-Ran’s reaction when Kuruk is found sleeping with that maid during the severe illness he receives after killing one of the dark spirits.

okay but imagine that second option. just imagine kelsang first finding out kyoshi could airbend, thinking she was an airbender he taught her about the air nomad culture, and everything (maybe kyoshi would have trouble bending small gusts on wind as in her airbending is always deadly) so kelsang advises her to be careful because something something airbenders honoring all forms of life
kyoshi went along with kelsang on his travels and when kelsang stayed in the avatar mansion, she stayed too. but not as a maid, as master kelsang's diciple. and she met rangi and yun bla bla bla and everything was all fine and great until the kuruk's poem scene and then she started earthbending AND airbending in the tagaka fight.
wait does that mean yun will live as in jianzhu doesnt need father glowworm to make sure that yun isnt the avatar?? because its already confirmed that kyoshi can bend more than one element? or would father glowworm still get involved one way or another??
regardless the image of kyoshi being in airbender attire is very pretty and yangchen would very much aproove
Imagine if Kyoshi was the air avatar
