A few interesting parallels in the SoC duology that I don’t think I’ve seen anyone talk about yet
(Analysis/discussion of these parallels/quotes may come later if anyone's interested)
“These creatures were made to be weapons” - Jarl Brum on Grisha, Six of Crows chapter 35
“He looked like what he truly was: a weapon” - Jesper Fahey on the Khergud, Crooked Kingdom chapter 36
“Welcome to the Hellshow” - Kaz to Nina, Six of Crows chapter 6
“Welcome to the Ice Court, Nina Zenik” - Matthias to Nina, Six of Crows chapter 34
“Is this a play?” - Alys Van Eck “Yes love, and you’re the star” - Jesper Fahey, Crooked Kingdom chapter 8 when Alys is taken captive
“What was this but a play Kaz had staged, with that poor sucker Kuwei as the star?” - Jesper Fahey on the auction plan, Crooked Kingdom chapter 36
“he looked like a priest come to preach to group of circus performers” - Inej on Kaz’s appearance in comparison to the rest of the Barrel, Six of Crows chapter 2
“started to preach” - Inej on Kaz leading a coup against Per Haskell, Crooked Kingdom chapter 27
“Whoever he had become, Matthias was not going to shoot someone unarmed. He'd not yet sunk so far” - Matthias Helvar, Six of Crows chapter 29
“I am unarmed” - Matthias Helvar, Crooked Kingdom chapter 38
"I didn't even know the rules of Makker's Wheel" - Jesper Fahey on his first night gambling in the Barrel, Six of Crows chapter ()
"He knew his guns better than he knew the rules of Makker's Wheel" - Jesper Fahey on the concept of aim and its relationship to his life and his zowa/Grisha abilities, Crooked Kingdom chapter 36
“a tiny voice inside him said he should offer to take the drug as well […] maybe he could have helped to draw the parem out of Nina’s system and set her free. But that was a hero’s voice and Jesper had long since stopped thinking he had the makings of a hero” - Jesper Fahey, Six of Crows chapter 44
“Matthias gave you the remaining parem, didn’t he?” “So?” “[…] I can’t let my father down again. I need the parem as a security measure” “No” “Why the hell not?” - Jesper and Kaz in discussion about the auction plan, Crooked Kingdom chapter 30
I'll probably be back to add more, feel free to add your own as well

Jo Rietveld (Kaz Dad): “Now see, I don’t so much mind this whole… criminal debacle you got into, a man has to do what a man has to do.”
Jo: “But to call yourself the bastard of the Barrel?! Kazimir!”
Kaz: “Pa-“
Jo: “You know darn well that your mother and I were married under the eyes, mind, and soul of Ghezen when we had Jordie! Let alone you!”
Kaz: “Pa, it’s just a title-“
Jo: “I know about titles! Like the title of servant of Ghezen, huh! Now that strikes fear! Fear of Ghezen!”
Kaz: “I’m never complaining about Inej and her Saints again.”

Jesper: why should I make my bed if I'm just gonna mess it up when I go to sleep, anyway?
Colm: why should I feed you if you're just going to die, anyway?
Jesper:
Jesper: I'll go make my bed

Kaz Brekker telling Pekka Rollins that he burried his son alive and his only hope is for Rollins to speak Jordie’s name:
“How does it feel to be helpless
How does it feel to know pain”

i think about kaz and wylan’s relationship a lot and how kaz is kind of the only in the crows that can truly understand wylan and his disability and he never lets wylan feel any less for it, kaz speaks of his talents and courage and i think it’s just amazing
these are some of the scenes i love but there’s definitely more
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i especially love this scene, the fact that kaz accommodates for the fact that wylan can’t read, like it’s literally that easy

Jesper: My son wondered what would happen if *everything* flooded at the same time. I had no answer, only terror
Nina: Wouldnt it depend on his ark building skills?
Wylan: He gives up on page 2 of any lego construction. We’re doomed

I don't know if this had been said before but I just reached this certain part in Crooked Kingdom again and it took me four or five rereads, but now it flicked a switch.
I see people call Kaz dramatic for this statement all the time:
"My mother is Ketterdam. She birthed me in the harbor. And my father is profit. I Honor him daily."
And yes, at first sight it does sound dramatic. But actually, it's the truth if we think about it.
Kaz himself said it: Jordie and he died these years ago, but Kaz was reborn. In Ketterdam, when he was escaping the deathboat on the waters of the city. It's not just a dramatic saying, but some kind of actual fact, dressed in a metaphor.
And his father profit? It was a foul mercher deal that led to his rebirth. He wants to get his revenge and destroy Rollins and getting rich is one part of it. So it also makes kind of sense.
I hope anyone can get where I'm coming from, it made a lot of sense in my mind.
