The weight of the bronze is 105 kg. Profits kindly donated by Rungwe Kingdon and @pangolineditions In the impending tragedy of Sudan’s death in March 2018 we wanted to record with the best means possible the actuality of what the extinction of the northern white rhino means with a powerful but poignant three dimensional image. The first time humans realised they could exterminate an entire species was the Dodo, now 360 years later we are facing extinctions on an enormous scale and we felt that Sudan could become a totemic symbol, at least as potent as the iconic images of the Dodo, but one for our own age. To this end we recorded Sudan with photogrammetry and white light scanning and from these digital records 3D printed and sculpted first this metre long Maquette and then a fully life size sculpture. It is intended to be a monument to Sudan and his species a plea for all the other species we are having such an immense impact on and to try and convey something of what it feels like to be in the presence of such a magnificent animal. Phew!! 😅 These 3 brand new bronzes made it, with only hours to spare, to the opening of the 57th Annual Exhibition, held by The Society of Wildlife Artists at The Mall Galleries, London. Apologies, this is my 1st post for a while. A short slideshow of the, now completed, Peregrine Falcon, sculpted in Chavant Le Beaux Touché clay over an aluminium, copper and wood armature. The completed sculpture will be available in bronze, in 2 separate editions of 15. 1 attached to a base and 1 flying free, suspended from a fine stainless steel wire. These are available to pre-order now and the 1st cast bronzes will be ready in a few months. I will post again, with a few photos and a bit more detail soon.
