Random. Things from the Newsies BBC Ghosts AU in my head:

Puddles drowned, so did Splasher. So did Pips. A lot of people drowned on this property. (Splasher may or may not have died trying to save Pips)

Race & Davey are best friends & Race is the only other ghost that Davey talks 2 most of the time

Kid Blink gets oldest ghost (era wise) privileges on account of. Me saying so

Smalls is the Jemima equivalent EXCEPT people actually cared enough 2 get 2 know her & learn that she is not scary at all she just thinks it's fun 2 scare people <3

Katherine is the person that can see ghosts but I'm playing around with the idea of Jack being able 2 see them too because I think that'd be neat

David dies of an illness !! Yippee !!

I’ve already said that jack and davey have a dog named mr. cuddles, and I’m sticking to it. he’s a rescue, and mr. cuddles was the name he had when they adopted him. they were going to name him something else, but couldn’t agree on something (at all), and eventually just shrugged and went with it. 

spot has a golden retriever. her name is josie. he totally didn’t buy her because she reminded him of a loud italian that he definitely hates. for sure. 

les’ frat house that includes tommy boy and ike has two goldfish that they’ve named sunny and goldie. they care for them religiously, and will hear no slander upon their names. (watch me make this frat house thing a legitimate au. watch me.)(someone please tell me no) 

crutchie has a cat and dog (named arnold and fisher) who absolutely HATE each other. he’s in denial about it, and swears that they love each other, even as they aren’t allowed to be in the same room. 

finch has a beta fish named gills and a cat named birdie (albert named her). 

albert has no pets, because when he had a fish, he forgot about it, and it died. 

henry also has no pets, but that’s because he’s allergic to literally everything. 

smalls has a cat. no one ever gets to see or hear about the cat. jojo swears it exists. 

jojo has two guinea pigs that are named neville and seamus (yes, he loves harry potter. yes, he hates jkr. he watches the movies AT LEAST once a week)

elmer fosters dogs, so he constantly has different animals moving throughout his house (he also fosters children. fight me.)

mike is uncomfortable around animals, so he doesn’t have one. 

specs has a cat named talia. she is an egyptian mau, spoiled to high heaven, and the light of his life. 

skittery has a dog named spencer. he is probably the worst behaved dog you’ve ever met in your life, but lord save you if you mention that to him. (bumlets claims no ownership of this dog, but spencer loves him more than anyone else in the world. it’s great.)

bumlets has no pets, because why would he have pets if spencer loves him so? (-the actual response he gives to people to make skittery mad)

mush and blink somehow got a snake? I don’t know. I’m not sure they know, either. mush is a little terrified of it, but blink adores it, so they can’t get rid of him. his name is sir slithers. (they think they’re hilarious)

medda has three cats- pearl, octavia, and grace- and they’re super friendly. super cute, too. 

buttons had a dog, but then the doggie passed away. his name was skittles. 

splasher adopted one of elmer’s foster dogs named lana (after lana del ray). she’s old, super tiny, and really sweet. he sometimes carries her around. 

sarah and kath refuse to have pets, because their furniture, jack, god

and race has a habit of drunkenly bringing home animals- birds, dogs, cats- but the only one he’s been allowed to keep is stripes, who is the most offended cat, I swear to god. she bites, hisses, claws. he adores her. jack originally said no, and davey basically agreed with him, but then race asked spot, and spot’s a pushover who can’t say no to antonio higgins. so. he got his cat.

He usually has a rather small face and a prominent nose. His hair has always been dark so far. He always has something blue about him sticking out/ is generally held in a blue vibe.

Sarah was played by ela keats. She was only in 92‘sies. She was originally planned to be in the theatre versions but her character was cut completely.

She has lightbrown/darkblonde long hair and- well theres only one actress so u can see for urself

May I ask for more premature Race bc Ima sucker for angst (basically baby brother race as i legit cannot write crutchie)

Here’s some premature Racer just for you, my love

They were in the hospital again. Race had collapsed and Jack had no idea why, all he knew was that he was panicking again, because there was his baby brother, twelve years old, laying on a hospital bed like it was his own. At this point, it might as well be.

Jack had never signed for this. He was supposed to be the big brother, not the mother, the father and everything in between. Yet, here he was, twenty three years old and completely responsible for everything that happened to the precious little boy in front of him.

It started when the child was born, nearly three months too early with an umbilical cord wrapped around his tiny neck. It was a miracle the tiny thing survived. That didn’t mean he was going to live a completely normal, healthy life. No. It meant hundreds of hospital visits, bills upon bills stacked up that Jack needed to find a way to pay. The child was beautiful. Jack adores him, but he’d only been meant to be the fun loving older brother. Now he was responsible for a child suffering from ADHD, anxiety, hearing loss, partial blindness, asthma and very poor social skills.

It wasn’t that Jack didn’t want to be here. Well, maybe it was. He didn’t want to be here because he didn’t want his brother to be here because the little boy deserved so much better and Jack was just sitting here, thinking about how he wished he wasn’t responsible for this child at all. As the guilt washed over him, the little boy’s eyes flickered open. He wheezed a bit. “Jackie?”

The young man melted. “I’m right here, Racer-kid, don’t you worry a single second,” he hushed into his brother’s right ear, brushing a hand through the boy’s thin curly hair. “How ya feelin’?”

All Race could do was manage a shrug, trying to blink his vision clear. “I dunno,” he admitted in a whisper, always afraid to talk too loudly. “Is Charlie coming?”

Jack sighed and shook his head. “He wants to, kiddo, but he can’t afford a plane ticket right now,” he explained. “I promise we’ll see him real soon, though, huh?” The boy sighed, curling up and closing his eyes again. And just like that, Jack’s small smile vanished and worry and sorrow took over instead as he leaned down to kiss the child’s head. “Just rest, little boy…”

The boy peaked his big blue eyes out from beneath those long eyelashes and found Jack once more before letting sleep consume him.

The precious child had been entrusted into Jack’s care. Jack couldn’t help but think it should’ve been someone else, someone better, someone special. Instead, it was just Jack, some college drop out with nothing but a high school diploma, two waiting jobs, a crummy apartment and all the adoration in his heart he had to give. “I love you, Racer,” he breathed. “I got you.”

They were in some hospital room again. And Jack would do whatever it took to make that room look like home.

Happy #StrikeStrikeStrikeDay!

Time for some girl power up in this business.

So, here’s how it goes:

Smalls likes to make up stories about the other people she sees on the street as she’s selling her papes.

A man in a nice suit? An architect, but he wishes he were in the circus. Those two ladies who head toward the church almost every day? Considering becoming nuns so the highwayman they robbed as they traveled to New York can’t find them.

Melodramatic? Yes. But does it keep the day from dragging on? Also yes.

If the other newsies ask, she’ll tell them one of the stories she made up, but never the one about the pretty girl she sees walking home from school with her brothers.

That girl’s story is hers and hers alone, though it isn’t actually very long.

One day, she stops as she passes me, Smalls thinks. She waves for her brothers to go ahead before walking over, smiling that bright smile. “I’ve been meaning to introduce myself,” she says. “I’m-”

And that’s as far as it ever gets, because Smalls can’t figure out what name would be beautiful enough to fit her.

Smalls has resigned herself to her fantasies by the time the girl’s brothers appear at the circulation gate, almost making her trip over Albert’s stick.

It turns out Les and Davey need jobs to help support their family after their father got in an accident, and Sarah (Sarah!) is also starting work at a factory to do her part.

Smalls can only hope that maybe one day Sarah will end up walking past Newsies Square with her brothers before she continues on to work.

Just as Smalls is processing this change, a second beautiful girl enters her orbit.

What in God’s name did Smalls do to deserve this?

Katherine is a lightning strike, and Smalls is ready to burn.

Once Katherine puts Jack in his place (eternally endearing her to Smalls, much as she loves that fearless cowboy), she makes a point of walking through Jacobi’s and introducing herself to each and every newsie there.

“Oh! Finally, another girl,” Katherine says as she approaches Smalls. “Thank God. You boys all seem wonderful so far - yes, even you, Jack - but you’re also a little exhausting.”

“You’re telling me,” Smalls replies, amazed she can make words when Katherine is looking her right in the eye. “You don’t have to go back to the lodging house with them. Just once, I’d like to pull my hair up in the morning without dodging the elbows of six boys all trying to shave their invisible beards at the same sink.”

There’s a good-natured uproar at her comment, but Smalls only notices Katherine’s delighted laughter.

“You poor thing,” she croons in between giggles. “Come here.”

Katherine hugs her, and Smalls forgets how to breathe.

“Good luck tomorrow,” Katherine says as she lets go and moves on the next newsie, taking Smalls’ breath away for an entirely different reason.

The next morning, Smalls squares her shoulders as she enters the circulation gate.

She’s determined to do her part as a hardworking newsie and make Pulitzer treat them the way they deserve.

She’s also determined to not make a fool out of herself in front of Katherine - maybe even impress her a little bit.

Besides, all Wiesel has to back him up is the Delanceys. They can take down the Delanceys if they all work together!

Smalls manages to kick Oscar right in the knee as he’s chasing Crutchie during the scuffle, and she feels invincible.

Hearing Katherine cheer for her from her position safely away from the fray doesn’t hurt, either.

And then the strikebreakers appear.

Smalls is terrified, but she isn’t going to back down from this fight. She can’t afford to pay an extra dime for the same amount of papers, and it isn’t right that Pulitzer and the other newspaper owners can make that change without consulting their employees!

She’s also not stupid, though. She knows she can’t take down a grown man by force alone.

So she darts in and out of confrontations, tripping the strikebreakers or whacking their knees and elbows with a board that got ripped off the delivery wagon.

It works pretty well, until it doesn’t.

Out of the corner of her eye, Smalls notices a cop running right at Katherine, who’s trying to pull an injured Jojo out of the way.

Smalls reacts without thinking, throwing herself in front of the cop just as he’s preparing to hit Katherine in the arm to get her to let go.

He can’t stop himself, nor does he want to. Smalls can see it in his eyes in the split second before she gets hit.

And then the world goes black.

Smalls wakes up in a small yet cozy apartment. Some of the other hurt newsies are curled up around her on a variety of makeshift beds, so she knows she must be somewhere safe, but that doesn’t stop the panic from rising as she sits up to inspect more.

“Shhh,” a kind, soft voice says from her right. “It’s okay.”

Smalls turns toward the voice and nearly falls over.

“I’m Sarah, David and Les’s sister,” she says, as if Smalls doesn’t know. “You’re in our apartment. David convinced Katherine and the other newsies who escaped to come here for help.”

“Escaped?” Smalls croaks, trying not to move her aching right cheek too much.

Sarah’s eyes are concerned as she says, “Warden Snyder arrived on the scene after you were hit. He got Crutchie before anyone could help him get away.”

Smalls’ stomach drops. The Refuge is no place for anyone to go, but especially not for someone as goodhearted as Crutchie.

“What about Jack?” she asks.

“We can’t find Jack,” Sarah replies. “He’s not at the Refuge - Race already confirmed that - but he’s also not at the lodging house or the rooftop.”

Before Smalls can even begin to figure out what to say at that, another voice interjects.

“You’re awake!” Katherine whisper-cries, flinging herself into the chair next to Sarah and taking her hand. “I was so worried about you. That policeman hit you hard enough that I saw stars.”

“But it gave you time to get Jojo out.”

“Yes, he’s here too, thankfully,” Katherine says.

“No thanks to you,” Sarah teases. “Once you saw that Smalls was unconscious, he says you practically threw him to the wolves.”

Katherine makes an indignant noise as Smalls stifles a laugh.

“I did not!” Katherine says. “Finch was right there to help him up and get him farther away. Smalls had no one, and Snyder was about to come back for seconds!”

“So you hurl Jojo at Finch before scooping up Smalls like a hero from a novel?” Sarah says through a giggle.

Smalls’ heart starts pounding at the thought.

Katherine was holding me?

“She sure was,” Sarah says, and Smalls flushes as she realizes she said that thought aloud. “David said she refused to put you down until everyone reached the outside of our apartment and Katherine realized she couldn’t get you up the stairs in her skirts.”

Katherine looks mortified, but she manages to joke, “Remind me to become a dress reformer before our next strike.”

Smalls cannot even begin to picture Katherine in bloomers if she wants to be able to speak coherently.

“Thank you,” she whispers instead. “No one does well at the Refuge, but there are stories about how the girls are treated there - it’s not like how they mistreat the boys.”

Katherine and Sarah don’t need her to elaborate.

“We are not going to abandon you,” Katherine declares, shifting to sit on the edge of Smalls’ bed and take her hand. “Not you, and not anyone involved in the strike. We have to stick together.”

“That’s right,” Sarah says. She puts her right hand on Smalls’ shoulder, and since her left is still in Katherine’s other hand, the girls form a loose triangle. “But those boys are all over each other in a way they don’t think to be with us. Let’s make sure we’ve especially got each other’s backs.”

“Deal,” Smalls says, and the other girls are gracious enough to not mention the tear streaking down her face.

After that, the world shifts ever so slightly for Smalls.

Well, there are big changes, too: there are plans for a city-wide newsie rally, and then when they’re all gathered at the theater, Jack stuns them all by turning scab.

But more importantly, Smalls develops deeper relationships with Katherine and Sarah.

At first, it’s little things.

Katherine and Smalls meeting eyes from opposite sides of Jacobi’s as Romeo practices yet another awful pick-up line.

Sarah deliberately walking by Smalls’ selling spot on her way to work every morning to share a smile and a quick hello.

Then bigger events.

Sarah inviting Smalls over for Shabbat when she learns that Smalls is also Jewish but unable to practice as faithfully at the lodging house.

Katherine joining Smalls every day at lunch time in the park between The Sun’s offices and the corner where Smalls sells her papes, rain or shine.

Finally, everything comes to a head as Jack leaves the stage after scabbing.

Davey’s chasing him, so Sarah and Katherine and Smalls are all following when Pulitzer appears from the fire door with a wad of bills.

Throwing the bills to Jack, he says, “Oh, and my daughter will be coming home with me now.”

Jack, Davey, Sarah, and Smalls all freeze, confused, but Katherine jerks back before turning beet red.

“Yes, Katherine is my daughter,” Pulitzer continues, clearly enjoying the havoc he’s causing. “I refused to let her sully herself by working for a living at one of my newspapers, but she defied me and got a nom de plume instead. An unfortunate lapse in judgment. Come along, sweetheart.”

Katherine looks around imploringly at the others before hurrying off after her father. Smalls moves to follow, but Sarah stops her.

“No, don’t give him another reason to come after us.”

Instead, Sarah, Smalls, and the boys go back to the Jacobs’ apartment. Jack and Davey head up to the roof, where Smalls has no doubt they will have a “discussion” (read: argument), so she and Sarah take the fire escape.

They have a half-hearted talk about the rally, but Smalls can tell they’re both just trying to avoid thinking about-

“Katherine!”

“Hello. Am I - am I still welcome here?” she asks, voice cracking.

“I can’t speak for Sarah, but you’re always welcome where I am,” Smalls says, scurrying down the steps to give Katherine a hug. “I thought about it as we walked back here, and I just don’t believe you had anything to do with your father’s position in the strike. You’ve been with us from the start, Katherine. You carried me away from the fight when I got knocked out. Who cares what name you were using? Your actions prove who you really are.”

“I couldn’t agree more,” Sarah says, joining them on the pavement and wrapping her arms around each of their shoulders. “Hell, after meeting your father, I can understand why you would use another name. He’s the worst!”

Katherine laughed, though there were tears spilling down her cheeks.

“The absolute worst!” she agrees.

Smalls wants to lean in and kiss those tears away, then kiss Sarah for helping to break the tension, but then-

“You’re back!” Davey cries, spilling out of the front door with Jack on his heels. “And Jack’s not actually a scab!”

“Wow, banner day,” Smalls mutters, making Sarah giggle.

“Good, because I have an idea,” Katherine says. “Jack, that speech you gave before the strike? That wasn’t just about the newsies. Every child in this city suffers under terrible bosses and bad working conditions. If we got every kid in the city to join us on strike-”

“They would have to listen to us!” Jack finishes. “Plumber - can I still call you Plumber? - you’re a genius.”

“How do we get the word out, though?” Sarah asks. “It’s a wonderful idea, Katherine, but it will only work if people know about it.”

“My father’s declared a blackout on strike news, as we well know,” Katherine says. “But there’s got to be a press somewhere he doesn’t control.”

There’s silence for a moment until Jack snorts.

“Oh, no.”

“What?” Smalls asks.

“I know of a press Joe would never dream we’d use. Follow me, everyone.”

Hours later, Smalls is exhausted. After Jack and Katherine got them into the cellar at Pulitzer’s office, she ran from one side of the city to the other, alerting newsies about the new plan and sending them off to collect their papes.

Every muscle in her legs aches, but she’s never felt more exhilarated.

“We’re doing it!” Sarah cries. She, Smalls, and Katherine are all tucked in a corner of the cellar, hand in hand, taking a quick break before Katherine heads off to personally deliver their paper to the governor.

“This has to work,” Smalls says, looking from Sarah to Katherine. “I can feel it.”

“Keep your fingers crossed anyway?” Katherine asks, lifting her free hand to show the gesture.

It’s so unbearably cute that Smalls just can’t resist anymore.

“Anything for you.”

And with that, she leans in and kisses Katherine, keeping a good grip on Sarah’s hand as well.

“Knowing us, we’re going to need it,” Sarah says before taking Smalls’ place to smooch Katherine herself.

Katherine kind of looks like she’s going to fall over, but she’s got a grin that could replace the sun.

“Now get out of here, you’ve got an important man to see!” Smalls says, knowing her own smile is as wide as Katherine’s.

She waves her newly freed hand before turning to Sarah.

“As for you-”

“Get over here already!” Sarah interrupts, pulling Smalls in so they can finally kiss.

Smalls has never been happier to follow an order in her whole life.

Before she knows it, they’re gathered with the rest of the newsies outside Pulitzer’s office, waiting for Jack, Davey, Spot, and Katherine to come back out with the results.

When they do, the boys stay on the balcony with Pulitzer as Jack gives them the good news, but Katherine joins Sarah and Smalls in the throng.

Smalls is screaming, overjoyed at the results, and Sarah is bouncing up and down alongside her.

Katherine flings her arms around them both, and for a second the world is just the three of them in a warm embrace.

“So what happens now?” Smalls asks eventually.

“Well, right now, we’re going to go tell my parents the good news, and they will inevitably make you stay for dinner,” Sarah says, glowing.

“And then we do our best to stay forever,” Katherine finishes.

“Pick an easier fight, why don’t you, Katherine?” Sarah teases.

“After all this, don’t we deserve easy?” Smalls points out.

“We absolutely do.”

Davey (and apparently Sarah, cause she appears a lot) Headcanons (modern era)

- he’s a polyglot, he can speak French, English, Hebrew, ASL, Italian and Spanish (in that order)

- Sarah can speak French, English, Hebrew and ASL but she never really cared to learn anymore.

- his family is originally from France and he immigrated to America when he was young (probably before Les was born)

- his dad is is Sephardic (his family comes from France) and his mom is Mizrahi (her family comes from Lebanon) and they come from a French-Jewish community in Marseille, France

- him and Sarah are twins with him being older by 2 minutes

- Sarah was always the outgoing twin, and Davey was the kid who sat quietly in the background who looked like he was mildly judging everyone

- Sarah was the only person Davey would really talk to, most of the time he didn’t talk much BUT if he had a hyperfixation? Or a special interest at the moment? Or a rant he needed to get off his chest? Then poor Sarah would have to sit and listen for hours

- he and Sarah shared a room until they were 7, neither of them wanted their own rooms but when they moved to New York and Les was born, their new house had rooms for all of them so they reluctantly parted ways (though Esther would often find one of them sleeping on the floor in the others room for many years to come)

- after moving to the US Davey and Sarah took it upon themselves to learn sign so they could talk without their parents knowing (and so they could still talk when Davey didn’t feel like speaking or when Sarah would lose her voice from speaking too much)

- Sarah was always outgoing and made friends immediately and easily upon starting school, and Davey never really had any friends, he preferred to spend his recesses reading on the swings rather than playing any games

- Davey has been in his schools gifted program since the 1st grade, and they even tried to get him to transfer to a gifted private school but he refused to leave Sarah, which she called him an idiot for

- Sarah started gymnastics at age 5 and took it very very seriously

- she loved acting but couldn’t hold a note and Davey can sing really beautifully but couldn’t act to save his life so they both loved musicals from a far

- Davey plays piano and Sarah plays the cello

- their reasonings were that David like how precise you have to be with the piano and Sarah liked the way all the adults looked at her in shock and mild fear at this tiny child holding this giant heavy instrument

- in middle school Sarah fell In love with photography and she takes pictures of everything ( she has a whole folder of nothing but pictures of Davey reading different books in the most random of places/positions), her room is covered floor to ceiling in Polaroids

- Meyer is a carpenter and he built both of them custom pieces in their rooms (part of their agreeing to get separate rooms) Sarah has a built in beam in her room (her speciality skill) and Davey has his bed built into a bookshelf (Les has a station for his toys and they all have a treehouse in their backyard which is identical to the treehouse from their childhood home)

- Davey comes out to Sarah in the 6th grade, absolutely terrified and Sarah comes out to him a year later

- after starting high school Davey finally agrees to go to the private gifted school that’s been after him since he was a kid

- he plays for their chess team and is their ringer

- he does academically well but despite being surrounded by other kids like him, he still doesn’t make any friends

- they don’t come out to their parents until the both start high school

- Meyer is surprisingly fine with it but Esther has a harder time and they all go through a really strained year or so while Esther struggles to overcome her own issues

- Because of this Davey starts to get really bad anxiety and Sarah struggles pretty hard with depression, they both have ADHD and so this just made it worse for both of them

- they both go to therapy and get help and through this Esther finally sees what her own biases are doing to her kids and slowly but surely they work it out

- Davey’s eyes are a bright blue and his hair is very dark almost black, Sarah’s eyes are more of an icy grey blue and her hair is a more deep chestnut brown, both of them are curly. Davey usually keeps a bit of fringe on the top, and Sarah usually keeps her hair shoulder length, long enough to put up for competitions but short enough that it’s not heavy when up

- Davey reaches 6’2 making him the tallest in the family and Sarah, much to her dismay, only makes it to 5’6 (which Davey says her gymnastics is to blame for that one)

- the summer before they start their junior year (so when their both 16) Meyer gets injured on the job and loses his job

- Esther works part-time as a medical records transcriber but it’s not enough to keep them afloat, she starts working full-time while Meyer recovers and it’s enough to keep them going but not enough to continue paying for Daveys school or Sarah’s training

- both Davey and Sarah get jobs to try and pay for their own paths, Sarah gets a job at her gym in exchange for training time

- Davey gets a job at a local newspaper building

- it’s a small sub building of a much larger newspaper ran by Joe Pulitzer

- and Davey manages to get a job as a short story writer on their smallest sub branch

- there he works closely with the paper’s illustrator, a boy just a year older than him named Jack

- Davey writes the stories and Jack draws them

- their relationship is rocky at first because Jack is the epitome of outgoing, he could give Sarah a run for her money, and Davey is the opposite, and Jack doesn’t trust people he doesn’t know, especially private school kids

- but eventually they learn that their assumptions of each other were wrong and they actually make a really great team

- They get closer and start becoming actual friends

- Daveys never had a real friend before so when he brings Jack home for the first time it’s fair to say his whole family is Shooketh and immediately start bombarding Jack with questions which Jack loves and makes Davey want to crawl into a hole

- Jack ends up introducing Davey to his friends from school and they immediately accept him into their group and Davey doesn’t think his heart has ever felt so full

- Davey then brings Sarah in, though she has no shortage of friends, but she was always eager to make more

- Sarah hits it off with a certain red-headed reporter who also works with Jack and Davey and they both become pining messes

- because Sarah may be confident and collected most of the time, but when a pretty girl comes into the mix? She’s just as bad as her brother is

- Davey splits his time between working and studying, he’s taking his SAT’s at the end of the summer, a year early because his school runs a competition every year that whichever student gets the highest score will get a partial scholarship

- and with Esther working full time and Davey working they would make just enough with that partial scholarship to let him finish what he started at this school

- eventually Jack and Davey grow closer, they start working on an actual book idea together, a kind of graphic novel

- Davey however starts getting worse and worse panic attacks as his test approaches

- Jack spends a lot of energy making paintings to try and help Davey feel better

- eventually Davey admits in one of his panic attacks that when he’s studying in his room for long periods of time (which lets be real is all the time cause the boy doesn’t know when to stop) that all the white shelves and walls in his room start to blend together and mess with his head

- so one weekend while The Jacobs (besides Esther who had to stay home to work) we’re all out of town for a big meet of Sarah’s, Jack takes it upon himself to paint a giant mural all over Davey’s room

- it’s a seemingly never ending landscape of The Jacobs old farmhouse in France

- Davey is in so much shock when he gets home and sees it that he can’t even form words

- so instead he kisses Jack in thanks

- and then a few more times just because he can

- and Jack nearly melts

- Sarah and Katherine get together soon after at Sarah’s last meet of the season, it’s nationals and Sarah has just won for her first time ever at this level and she gets so excited when she meets Kath and Davey back up after the ceremony that she just kisses Kath right then and there without even thinking about it

- apparently Kath had been planning on doing the same thing though so it all worked out

- the two couples go on numerous double dates as well as just having giant group hangs all the time and it’s the best summer any of them have ever had

- Davey finally takes his test and manages to get a near perfect score, solidly winning him the scholarship

- junior year comes for Davey and Sarah and senior year comes for Jack and Katherine

- Katherine gets early admission into Stanford for Journalism while Jack struggles with deciding what he wants to do

- part of him wants to go to school for something practical, something he knows will guarantee him money and a job

- but the other part of him, the part largely influenced by a certain blue eyed boy, tells him to follow his dreams

- he decides to take a chance and follow that voice

- he ends up getting into Pratt for an illustration degree and Davey throws an entire party to celebrate

- the all spend the next year just being teenagers, working and school and extra curricular’s and more than anything just spending time together

- Meyer finally heals and goes back to work which takes off a lot of the strain of the family, Davey gets to go to part-time work and focus more closely on his preparing for Uni

- Sarah finally takes her SAT’s and does surprisingly well, probably because Davey forced her to study with him for months in preparation

- Davey takes the SAT’s again much to the exasperation and confusion of both Jack and Sarah but he ends up actually getting a perfect score

- Summer finally comes and the group all take a road trip out of New York, driving Katherine out to California to get accustomed to her new home and so Sarah can spend more time with her

- jack moves into his dorm towards the beginning of August and him and Davey have a very long a tearful goodbye, which Sarah makes fun of endlessly since they are moving approximately 15 minutes away from each other, meanwhile her girlfriend is on the other side of the country

- Sarah wins her second consecutive nationals and gets scouted (and accepted) into UCLA, which she accepts in a heartbeat, having been her dream school and team for as long as she could remember (and also being just a 5 hour drive to Katherine, rather than the current 43 hour drive)

- she ends up going to study photography and compete on the UCLA gymnastics team

- Davey gets faced with a very difficult choice

- he gets into every school he applies for, and he has applied to a Lot for safety

- he gets into Stanford, Columbia, Harvard even MIT, though he did easily scratch that one out due to not really having what he wanted to study there

- he gets a full ride to all of them

- he struggles with his decision a lot, Harvard is obviously an amazing school and his dream school his whole life, but it’s also separated from everyone

- Stanford is a great school as well, it has Katherine and Sarah in a closer distance and if he goes there his parents are considering moving the family to California so they can be close to both their kids

- but California doesn’t have Jack, and though he enjoyed his trip out to Cali last summer it didn’t scream a place he could really imagine himself

- Columbia hit almost all his boxes

- it was only 30 minutes away from Jack, it was in the city he loved with the weather he felt comfortable in

- most of his friends would be nearby, he could keep working at the newspaper and they had a dual major he really loved

- the problem was that Sarah was already committed to California, and as we saw earlier California was a very very far place from New York

- Sarah and Davey had many many long conversations about this, because Sarah didn’t want him to give up a school he loved just to be nearer to her, but also she couldn’t imagine him not being in the same state as her let alone the same side of the country

- eventually though she convinces him to finally do something for himself

- so he does

- he ends up going to Columbia University, dual majoring in The Classics and Literature

- Meyer and Esther never had the opportunity to go to college, so Sarah and Davey were the firsts of their family

- Their graduation party is huge

- Davey graduated as Valedictorian and Sarah left her gym being the Top gymnast with a record on beam

- his first year there Davey lives in a dorm and promises himself to try new things, one of those things being Archery, which he finds he actually loves and manages to make the team for

- he’s no where near the best on the team, but he’s also not the worst and he found that it helps him destress from school, he likes the precision of it, much like piano and chess, it’s something to focus his mind on

- Sarah manages to win the Beam title at her first NCAA championship and Davey and Jack flew out to see her compete

- Davey and Jack move into an apartment in Woodside together in the summer after Daveys freshman year and Jacks sophomore year, it’s exactly halfway between their respective schools

- while living together they finally finish and publish the book they’d been working on together since those first few months of knowing each other

- they also get a Siberian husky puppy because they think it’ll be cute, they don’t realize just how much Work goes into raising Siberian Husky’s but they take it in stride

- they mostly speak Spanglish in their house, with Davey trying to slowly teach Jack some French

- When Katherine graduates she moves down to LA and she and Sarah move in together

- She goes to work at a big newspaper with the goal of starting her own newspaper one day

- Jack graduates and goes to work as a freelance illustrator, meaning he has the freedom to work when, where, and how he wants but still makes enough money to support himself and Davey

- together they turn their book into a series that gets mildly popular

- Davey Graduates Summa Cum Laude, and gets into Harvard Grad school where he chooses to go for his PHd in Classical Literature and Language

- Jack of course goes with him

- Sarah graduates after 4 straight NCAA titles

- She and Katherine decide to go back to New York to start Katherines newspaper and Sarah to go back and coaches for her old gym and works as a freelance photographer (which Katherines Newspaper often hires)

- Before Davey goes to grad school and they start the newspaper however Davey decides to take a gap year and he, Jack, Sarah and Katherine all go up and spend the year in The Jacobs home town in France

- their family still owns their old farmhouse, though it is a little worse for wear after all the years

- Their friends and Family come up for the winter holidays and Davey doesn’t think he’s ever been this happy in his entire life

- while there Sarah volunteers to coach at a gym training actual upcoming Olympic athletes

- Katherine writes for her online newspaper in prep for actually building it

- and Jack and Davey work on the next book in their series

- Sarah and Katherine get married in a Huge over the top ceremony and it’s amazing and fun and everything they are

- After about 2 years Jack and Davey make the plunge to try surrogacy, their plan was to have two kids a few years apart, which didn’t quite work considering the first time they tried they ended up getting twins

- Two girls affectionately named Aurora and Luna (the sun and the moon)

- it ironically happened that Sarah and Katherine were also trying for kids at the same time, and neither had told the other in hopes of it being a fun surprise

- it Was a surprise to find out they were both expecting at the same time, with Katherine’s due date just a mere 2 weeks after theirs

- they end up having a little boy named Mason, and their kids grow up just as close as they did, and the rest is history.
