hiii! could u pretty pls do a jack kelly x reader with the reader secretly being pulitzers daughter? (kinda like katherine’s storyline lol) :))
"So we wasn’t too good to be true?" — jack kelly x reader
Summary: Jack finds out the hard way that you’re Pulitzer’s daughter and he’s not happy about it. But, after forcing him to listen to you, you show him that he can trust you.
Pairing: jack Kelly x pulitzersdaughter!reader
Word count: 1,000
Warnings: Fluff with a bita arguing! Sry if there’s typos <3
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
It was late and cold, Jack was hurting and angry. He’d gone back to the newsies from Pulitzer’s office, trying to disband the strike. The boys didn’t take this well, yelling and shouting at him like they hadn’t been friends for most of their lives. He stormed around on his rooftop, kicking and punching the railings, his breathing ragged as his body tried to keep warm in the cold air, and his brain tried to fight off the emotions that were becoming all too much for him to contain. The newsies, however, weren’t even the half of what was working him up so much. No, it was you. He was furious and sad.
While in Pulitzer’s office, he noticed the stamp patterned over all the documents spread all over his desk. Jack could barely remember what Pulitzer said to him. His head hurt, his brain felt like lead. That stamp had the same emblem as the one in your necklace, the one you’d told him was a family crest.
He wasn’t exactly being quiet up there, the echo of metal ringing and his angry cries made it pretty easy for you to find him.
“Jack,” you spoke his name as you climbed up the ladder to meet him.
Jack took a sharp breath in, “you shouldn’t be here.”
“What? Jack, we’re worried ab—“
“You’re worried, huh? Yeah, right.” Jack’s voice was raw with emotion, his words tinged with bitterness as he cut you off.
You frowned, confusion knitting your brows together as you approached him cautiously. “What are you talking about, Jack? What’s going on?”
He turned away from you, unable to meet your gaze as he wrestled with the truth threatening to spill from his lips. “I knew it was too good to be true,” he confessed, his voice barely a whisper, “I saw your matching family crest with Pulitzer. Nice surprise, really. I mean, how long did you think you could lie for?”
You froze, your heart skipping a beat as his words sunk in. “Jack, I…”
He spun around to face you, his eyes filled with a tumult of emotions – anger, sadness, confusion. “You lied to me, a-and every other newsie” he accused, his voice cracking.
Tears welled in your eyes as you reached out to him, but he recoiled, pulling away from you. “Jack, please, let me explain—”
But he shook his head, his jaw clenched with determination. “I don’t want to hear it,” he spat, his words laced with hurt.
“Jack, I’m not my father.”
“No.”
“Jack-“
“I—I’m not an idiot. I shoulda known,” he groaned, “girls like you don’t wind up with guys like me. Just piss off.”
With that, he turned away from you, his shoulders hunched against the biting wind as he retreated into the darkness of the rooftop.
You weren’t about to let him do that.
“No Jack,” you gripped the back of his shirt, pulling it to turn him to face you. Before he had the opportunity to turn back around, you gripped the collar of his shirt in both hands, forcing him to look at you.
“I am not my father. I am on your side, Jack. YOUR SIDE. I didn’t tell you he was my father because I knew you’d immediately disregard me.” You stated, not once letting your eye contact be broken.
Jack's gaze softened as he looked into your eyes, the intensity of your close proximity playing with his head. He swallowed hard, his throat tight with emotion as he struggled to find the right words to say.
You could see the conflict playing out in his eyes, the battle between his wounded pride and the sliver of hope he still had left. And then, without a word, you released your grip on his shirt and took a step back, your own emotions threatening to overwhelm you.
You gripped at your necklace. With one hard yank, you pulled it off your neck, snapping the clasp. He watched as you leant over the railing, tossing it as far into the night as you could. Turning away from him, you took a deep breath, steeling yourself for what you knew would come next – rejection, dismissal, the final nail in the coffin of what could have been.
But then, just as you began to descend the ladder, his voice stopped you in your tracks.
"Y/N."
You paused, your heart pounding in your chest as you turned to look at him from the ladder.
"So we wasn’t too good to be true?" he asked, his voice soft yet filled with uncertainty.
You hesitated for a moment, your mind racing with a thousand thoughts of what to say. And then, summoning every ounce of courage you had left, you climbed back up the ladder and leaned against the railing, meeting his gaze head-on.
"Why don't you kiss me and find out," you challenged, your voice barely above a whisper.
Jack scoffed and shook his head. But as he looked into your eyes, he realized there was no jest in your expression, only a fierce determination and a vulnerability that mirrored his own.
“Wait, you’re serious?” he asked, his voice tinged with astonishment, his accent thick with disbelief.
You didn’t say anything, your gaze never leaving his as you held his stare, your heart pounding in anticipation.
And then, without another word, Jack closed the distance between you, his hands cupping your face as he pressed his lips to yours in a kiss that was both tender and passionate.
In that moment, everything else faded away – the cold, his anger, his hurt, your fears, the weight of the world on your shoulders. There was only Jack, only the warmth of his touch, the softness of his lips, and the overwhelming rush of emotions that came with him. Good ones.
There was a hunger in the way he kissed you, as if he was trying to convey all the emotions he couldn’t put into words. You pulled away, the soft smacking sound of your lips parting from his broke the silence.
“I am Y/N Pulitzer, Jack Kelly. Or should I say, Francis Sullivan.” You teased.
“You know?” His eyes widened, wondering how on earth you found out his birth name.
You shrugged, “We’re even now,” and extended your hand for him to shake.
“Nah,” he pushed your hand away, back down by your side, “I’d rather kiss.”
He smiled, pulling your body into his until your lips met again.

i was reading about muckrakers (in the way of the progressive movement in the 1900’s in the US) today and you cannot tell me Katherine Plumber didn’t do this
journalists that wrote to try expose corruption and make a positive change? that’s literally her character in the show
and here’s my favorite part: it’s chronologically plausible
assuming Kath is 17 like Jack during newsies which is set in 1899, she’d be 24 by the time the term ‘muckraker’ is coined by our old pal Teddy Roosevelt in 1906 (unless i did my math wrong)
and some people may say “but most muckrakers were men” a) maybe a lot but not all of em, and a lot of the more famous ones were women and b) FIGHTING THE STEREOTYPE OF WRITING BEING A MAN’S JOB IS LITERALLY A MAJOR ARC IN HER CHARACTER
but yeah, adult Kath becoming a muckraker during the progressive movement to make changes for the better has been my favorite thought today :D

How Jack would end up
Disclaimer: it’s a theory, so it could be a bit inaccurate.
So after the strike, we all know that Jack Kelly actually didn’t leave New York, for Katherine and for his friends. Katherine broke the stereotypes for women, and Jack of course is very supportive of Katherine. Katherine was just like Nellie Bly, super talented, and Katherine married to her husband (aka Jack) pretty late.
Even though Jack sort of got over the obsession with Santa Fe, he still thinks about it. But this time he was more of a like, what will happen if I went to Santa Fe with my wife, and my best friend Crutchie? In the end they did save up enough money.
Although they had enough money, doesn’t mean they are the richest. While with the money in hand, because of WWI happening, Jack got drafted with Crutchie, (you can still go to war with polio.) When he fought in the war, he met Jay Gatsby. They both talked about their loved ones.
When the war ended Jack was super devastated. Because during it, Crutchie lost his life from saving him. Jack blamed himself for everything too. The Santa Fe obsession got back and he was saying stuff like, “I need to see the stars… Crutchie could be one of them.”
He and Katherine moved to the west, and they had a baby boy. Katherine agreed immediately with the idea of naming the boy Casey, which is basically after Crutchie.
Over the years the trauma got better, with the son’s, and Katherine’s help. But he still drank occasionally. His son, him, and Katherine moved back to New York, and Casey met the old Race that came back from France (from my other post). Race immediately thought of Jack when he saw the boy. Race later on figured out it was Jack’s son. Which answered the question of, “why does he have the appearance of an old friend?” “Because he is the son of an old friend.”

Random Newsies Headcannons!!! (I’m bored and I know some of these are popular in the fandom but i’ll share anyway)
- Davey is autistic and Jack has ADHD (mostly attention issues)
- Katherine has ADHD (manly hyperactivity issues) and she gets really really excited when talking about something she loves and the newsies love it
- Race is a slut /pos
- Davey swears a lot (he deserves to) and has to beg Les to not tell on him.
- Crutchie has an obvious crush on Jack and really looks up to him but never tells him and the crush eventually goes away as he gets older
- Ralbert forever 🫡
- Les has said fuck and he’s really proud of that but too scared to do it again
- Davey is a heavy sleeper
- Jack used to be a heavy sleeper but since he’s basically a mom to the newsies he wakes up at every sound
- Les says every thought that comes to his little brain
- Les has called Wiesel ugly and weird and the newsies encourage him
- The Jacobs’ are Jewish
- Davey is a bitch at heart
- Crutchie doesn’t like Davey at first because of how close he gets with Jack
- Katherine and Davey are besties
- Every newsie is some form of queer because i said so (not counting Les he is 9), but here are some specifics:
- Davey is gay
- Jack is bisexual (obviously)
- Race is GAY
- Crutchie? Also gay
- Albert is gay too
- Romeo is pan
- No newsie is cis I do not care!!! (again not counting Les)

Thinking about writing Kath/Sarah…
I have 2 questions! First one isn’t ship-related but I need it for research purposes.
I’ve seen it different ways, and I’d like to know what everyone says!
And the second thing: Do you have any Katherine and Sarah headcanons? HCs for them as individual characters or together in a relationship are all acceptable.
Share any thoughts in reblogs/comments :D

indulging my petrol head tendencies with newsies as classic cars to make it sound less straight
no one asked but I like Assigning them things
jack - triumph stag
crutchie - volkswagen beetle
katherine - mgb
davey - austin healey sprite (les is the frog eye ones)
race - rover 2000
albert - chevrolet impala
spot - ford mustang
bill - morris minor
darcy - mini cooper
oscar - aston martin dbs
morris - dodge challenger but you have to take my word cause there’s an image limit on mobile
#based solely on vibes and my preferences#my bby davey obviously has my own#newsies#newsies the musical#newsies headcanons#not really but I need tags#look up the frog eye it’s so funny trust me#livsies#uksies#davey jacobs#jack kelly#katherine plumber#I’m an expert on this (I point at classics and call them sexy all the time)#and build them occasionally which is irrelevant#I’m biased toward the 60s so most years are that

Headcanons:
- Cannot remember all the newsies names. Soon as she remembers someone, she forgets someone else. She even forgot Jack's name once (she's working on remembering everyone)
- The class divide is painfully obvious at times, but she makes an effort to educate herself further on things like disabilities and other cultures so as to better interact with the boys
- Great with the younger newsies. Buttons in particular likes taking with her, as they discuss things like fashion and where she gets her outfits fitted
- Things aren't romantic between her and Jack, but they're certainly very close friends

Talk fantasy au to me
yippee yay!!!
so the main plot is overthrowing the government because this is my au so of course we’re doing revolution here
basically Pulitzer (who’s the king of this kingdom) is extremely corrupt, but most of the upper class adults wont do anything because they’re benefiting in some way from the corruption (huh…that sounds familiar…i wonder where that’s happened before(the government, it happens in many governments)) so because most adults won’t do anything, the kids have to take it into their own hands
this revolution is led by Katherine with Sarah as her second in command. Katherine, yes she’s the princess, but more importantly she’s a scholar and a magic user. Sarah worked her way up the ranks in society to become a knight to help protect and provide for her siblings and parents. also, those two are gay for each other, yay!
there will be at least one dragon because this is fantasy and i think dragons are really cool, the dragon may possibly get tamed or something by Kath or Sarah
most of the other characters aren’t too developed here but i do have some stuff
Jack and Crutchie still have a brother relationship and they grew up and currently live in the castle town. they grew up begging together in the streets and they still stick together whenever they aren’t working. Jack probably works as a blacksmith or in some other kind of manual labor (i thought blacksmith because there was some artistry involved and he’s an artist), he also paints on the side when he has time and paint. Crutchie is a stablehand because he loves animals, the stable he works at is the same that Sarah’s horse is kept at so he’s how word of revolution got back to Jack. he also really likes magical creatures. they’re both a part of the revolution
the Jacobs family in this au are just barely nobility but do have it better off that peasants, they started raking lower but managed to climb a little socially, in part thanks to Sarah’s knighthood. Davey’s a scholar, he wants to learn everything he can about the world around him and is really interested in magic even though he hasn’t gotten a chance to learn any yet. he didn’t love the idea of revolution because he thought it was too dangerous but he stands by his sister’s side no matter what. also, he definitely has a thing for a certain blacksmith who’s a part of this revolution. Les just kinda helps out his siblings, he was eager to join the revolution. Esther and Mayer Jacobs are firmly against revolution if/when they find out. they’re very grateful for their current social standing and don’t want to jeopardize that.
Race is of around the same social standing as the Jacobs or a little lower, he serves as a messenger around and outside of the castle, sometimes even out into the castle town. he heard of the revolt from Sarah while delivering messages and orders to her and eagerly joined, he became an extremely vital part. he’s one of the fastest people you’d ever meet and has stamina for days. also, because i’m a sucker for Crutchtrack, he always makes up an excuse to deliver messages to the stables to see Crutchie. he’s a lot smarter than he lets on to adults.
Miss Medda still serves as a mother figure to the newsies and aid to their revolution. she and the bowery beauties are bards and own a small theatre where they perform, Jack still paints backdrops for her and her theatre is a common meeting spot for the revolutionaries.
Mr Jacobi is a cook and Henry is a training cook (not necessarily his apprentice but he still learns stuff from Jacobi sometimes). Specs is probably a messenger like Race. that’s pretty much all of the ideas i have so far, i hope y’all like it and i love getting asks about this au :D!!!!

Modern AU Katherine's style icon as a kid would be Taylor from High School Musical
#this is obviously assuming she's the right age to have watched hsm as a kid#but I'm just thinking about all the ties Taylor has#and the prom dress she wears when they first sing a night to remember in hsm3!#and i think Katherine would incorporate some elements of men's fashion into her outfits#and assuming she grows up in a similar environment to canon (stuffy repressive and with parents who have very strict ideas of how to be)#a random Disney character who sometimes wears ties could very well be her first exposure to that sort of thing#it was for me!#anyway i have a headache I'm incoherent but Katherine in a suit thank you for your time#newsies headcanons#Katherine plumber#isabel.tex#anyway I've talked about Katherine and style a bit with Alex but it's getting a Tumblr post now because i feel strongly

give the public (me) thine Kathy thoughts
my one and only kathy 😌
she’s such an intersting character i love her so much. she’s basically sarah but so much more fleshed out. also she replaced denton which is great and it makes so much more sense. like she’s the daughter of the main “villain” and she goes against him not because she’s forced to, but because she knows it’s the right thing to do. she’s thrown into a new world and a new side of things she’s never seen before, and she easily adjusts and does so well and becomes upset when she learns about how unfair the world is after being hidden from it for so long. her character develops so much and she’s happy with jack at the end and it’s great (then they break up because she’s a lesbian and she gets with sarah and jack gets with davey and they all live happily ever after).
oh! and her name. she is such a strong and independent person that she completely rejected her fathers name and all the privileges that would have come with it. instead she takes a name that’s commonly associated with the lower class, one that she chose herself. she rejects the lifestyle she was born into and she works so hard in a world that doesn’t accept women, especially as workers, AND succeeds.
