Love languages — Lost Characters HCs
Tumblr media
Characters: jack shepard, james “sawyer” ford, kate austen, sayid jarrah, and charlie pace
Warnings: some cursing and slight suggestive language sawyer.
a/n: this show has been consuming my being and i need to talk to someone about it or i’ll explode. i have been so preoccupied with school i kinda got distracted from this account and writing but i'm going to do my best to get back on track.
Tumblr media
Jack Shepard
He has always felt the absence of his father, whether he wants to admit it or not.
He struggles with being vulnerable, but when he does truly care about someone he wants to be as present as possible because he knows what it feels like to be alone.
He really likes touching you. not like that weirdo
He needs you to know that he'll always be there for you, and he does this by constantly reminding you physically.
Whether it be a kiss on the forehead, a prolonged hug, or even a brush hands, he wants to cement the idea that you can always count on him.
Also, this man definitely lives for words of affirmation.
I mean look at that wet cat man, he’s never been given any positive words that didn’t have a second motive.
Having lived his entire life surrounded by false praise, the first time you compliment him, he sighs internally just waiting for you to ask him a favor right afterwards.
So, of course, it throws him off when you don’t.
I mean, what other reason could there be for your kind words.
And it’s not the last time either, you continue to encourage him, expressing your admiration at his skills and the way he always knows what to or what to say in every situation.
The way you spoke of all of his actions, was enough to slowly break down his walls.
Eventually, when he gets comfortable enough tell you about his past, you are there to listen intently, hanging on to his every word.
Once he’s finished, you reach your hand out to hold and his and offer him words of encouragement, telling him he’s a better man than everybody gives him credit for, and he needs to stop pressuring himself to fix everything.
He has no idea how you always know exactly what to say to leave him comforted, but he knows that that is what he loves the most about you.
James “Sawyer” Ford
His main approach to getting another person’s attention is through a sly smile and sexual innuendos. It’s what has worked so well in the past.
But the real way he expresses his affection is through gifts.
The man hates giving anything he considered “his” to anybody, so whenever he does consider it a sign.
Believe it or not, he is a very active listener.
If you happen to casually mention a small detail, like you’re craving a certain food or are needing an extra blanket, expect for him to have it within the hour.
Sawyer is awkward when it comes to expressing himself through words sincerely, and he considered himself too clumsy to do anything else.
So he figures the best way to show that he cares is by giving you whatever you want.
Don’t expect him to be sweet about it either though. He’ll definitely make some jokes about you needing to pay him back and you’ll do it gladly.
Receiving wise though, he appreciates anybody that is willing to give him the time of day.
Before the island, the idea of spending quality time with anybody he wasn’t sleeping with was absurd.
However, after meeting you, his thoughts quickly changed.
He knows that he isn’t the easiest person to deal with, so he treasures you going out of your way to be with him more than you realize.
Nobody was ever willing to spend more time than necessary when it came to being around him.
Your persistence is what allowed him to fully open up.
At first, he does everything in his power likebeingalittlebitch to get you to stay away.
Once it dawns on him that his actions won’t be enough to get you to leave, his appreciation for you grows.
Needless to say, once you get him to care enough about you, you’ll never be needing for more.
Kate Austen
Kate hates having to stay anywhere longer than she has to.
Which is why, if she makes an effort to be around you, for no apparent reason, then it’s most likely that she’s attached.
She has spent a good chunk of her life running. Including from responsibilities, confrontations , the law, she doesn’t know the meaning of slowing down.
With you however, she wants nothing more than for time to stop so she can appreciate the full extent of your company and enjoy quality time together.
She never thought it to be possible for her to find a person that made her feel like she was at home until she met you.
Beware though, being around you and trusting you are two different things.
After being losing all the most important people in her life (betrayal or otherwise) she is still extremely wary of being vulnerable with others, regardless if she cares for them or not.
It will take a lot of work on your part to show her that not everybody who is close to her is bound to leave.
Which is why she needs constant verbal reassurance of your affection towards her.
Don't be too direct with it though, or else she might think you're trying to take advantage of her in some way.
However, if you slowly build your relationship to her while affirming her how much she means to you, then her walls are bound to come down.
Your positive words combined with your sincerity will have her falling for you so hard she won't know that to do with herself.
Whether you know it or not, your words to her are a lifeline.
Sayid Jarrah
ASKSNWKDB I LOVE THIS MAN
If there's anything this man knows how to do is be at the service of others, which is exactly how he shows his love.
Being in the Republican Guard conditioned him to automatically fix any problem within his sight and follow the orders of his superiors.
As soon as he got on that island, he fell back into that role like second nature, following the guidance of Jack while still commanding orders in his own way.
From the moment he realizes his feelings for you expect for him to become your personal bodyguard.
He isn't the type to baby you but like hell if he'd let you get yourself in any danger.
He would do everything in his power to protect you from the island's hazards.
Not to mention he's a complete romantic.
It doesn't matter if he currently has any other duties you will always be his first priority.
You have a problem with your tent, he's already fixed it. You feel the need to get away from the rest, he'll take you on a private walk on a secluded part of the beach. You're hungry? Oh wow, how did this five course meal find its way here!
Tender touches and physical touch are his favorite way of receiving love.
For years, the only times that his skin touched another person’s, was to torture them.
Believing himself to be undeserving of compassion, he chose to isolate himself.
Also fearing he might lose those he cares about if he were ever to open himself up.
Then you come along.
Your outgoing yet gentle nature, were enough to almost knock his feet out under him.
Being the friendly person that you are, it was common for you to be touchy-feely with the people you considered close.
Doesn’t mean it still didn’t throw him for a loop the first time you did it though.
The both of you were sitting next to each other around a fire during dinner, when suddenly you leaned your shoulder against his.
Despite it being such a simple gesture, he couldn’t recall the last time he was on the receiving end of such a casual touch.
He is insanely touch starved, so as the relationship between the two of you flourishes, he’ll start to long for the feel of you.
It comforts him knowing he has tangible proof to remind him he’s not alone.
Charlie Pace
This man will always speak what’s on his mind. For a long time, he’s been criticized for not measuring his words more carefully.
So don’t expect him to sugarcoat how much he cares and loves you.
He knows that his big mouth has put him in a lot of problems, but he will continue to use it because it got him your attention.
From the minute you catch his eye there's no way he's going to stay silent about it.
Hell, don't be surprised if he ends up writing a song about you.
He's aware that sometimes he says things that result in him being the butt of a joke, but he will always tell you the truth of his love for you.
In fact, he will go above and beyond to have you know that you're the only way he could ever care for.
What do you mean you feel insecure as if you don't have the beauty and grace of a goddess?
One thing he neglects to mention is that he's a spoiled little brat that loves gifts.
No matter how small or worthless you think it may be, to him it means the world coming from you.
Having dealt with addiction he's never maintained any object that held any financial value because he always sold it for a couple of extra bucks.
That is why your gifts serves as a physical reminder that he has changed and that he is allowed to be happy.
Things ranging from a flower to an item of personal value that you've given him he will guard with his life.
That includes your heart which is the greatest treasure you could've given him.
p.s. can you tell who my favorite character is based on this lol

'Reclusion' Chapter 1 - Benedict Bridgerton X OC
Tumblr media
A/N: Hi! This has been gathering dust for at least a year. I completely forgot about it until just now, but felt inspired to continue it given how much background thought and work I put into the entire story. That being said, I would appreciate any thoughts/feedback, and do let me know if you want another chapter! Considering we're between seasons I'm not sure how many people are reading bridgerton fics but we shall see! xx

Lady Whistledown
1814 Society Papers
Dearest Gentle Reader,
It is often said that while loneliness is the poverty of self, while solitude is the richness of self. That one must turn away from everybody else, in order to seek their own inner truth. With the return of one Miss Evalina Stanton to London from the country, alongside the scandalous Sharma family, this Author must question if her time away was the former or the latter. Only time will tell when she joins the Ton in her debut, if she has in fact enriched her soul, or deprived it of its ability to follow the rules of high society. One thing is for certain, Dear Reader: all eyes will now be on Miss Stanton, for Mayfair is a far cry from her life as a recluse.
“Eva! Oh my!” came the delighted yell, followed by a bone-crushing hug. Pulling away, Miss Kathani Sharma, Evalina’s dear old friend and the closest thing she had to a protective older sister, beamed at her.
“Oh, how I have missed you all dearly,” Evalina said with earnest, reaching out to embrace Edwina, the youngest Sharma.
“It has been far too long, my dear friend,” Edwina commented sweetly, “we have too many things to catch up on. Did you read the latest Austen? I rather thought you would have enjoyed her clever wit; the protagonist reminds me of yourself so!”
Evalina chuckled, embracing Mary. When her biological Mother so cruelly abandoned her as a child, leaving her alone with her cold, emotionally distant Father, Lady Mary cared and loved for her as if she were her own. Evalina always considered the Sharmas her only true family, however unconventional their little family may have been.
“I enjoyed it greatly! Though at times a little too… romantic for my tastes,” Evalina jested, letting Mary go as the group began to make their way up towards the front door of the coveted Lady Danbury’s home.
“I found the romance exquisite,” Edwina said dreamily. And are we not all to be pondering romance, now we are to be searching for husbands this season? Surely you must have found some inspiration within its love story.”
“Come now Edwina, we have all had a long journey, Eva included,” Mary smiled, gently placing her hand on her youngest daughter’s shoulder. “Let us not forget we are to meet Lady Danbury before the ball, we must conserve our intellectuality. If I remember correctly, she has a rather sharp tongue.”
Eva smiled at Edwina, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. Despite the distance between Eva and the women for many years, with their residing in India, and her escaping to the countryside to pursue her novel writing, they always kept in touch through countless letters. Whilst Edwina was always encouraging Evalina to image a future with romantic love in it, Kate, on the other hand, was the more cautious of the two, much like Eva herself. They both meant well, always looking out for their adoptive sister and each other, Kate constantly acting more as a Mother to the two than a sister. Despite Evalina’s age of four and twenty, merely two years below Kate, Evalina felt as if Kate was much wiser and much more mature, beyond her years. Evalina’s felt as if her romantic troubles in the years prior that lead to her fleeing London, while crushing her, did not cause her to mature in the same way Kate’s burdens had.
Mary offered all her girls an encouraging smile, despite her own racing heart at facing Lady Danbury after all of these years, before alerting the footman of their arrival.
------------------------------------------------------------
“Lord Bridgerton, may I present Lady Mary Sharma, her daughters Miss Sharma, and Miss Edwina Sharma, and this is Miss Evalina Stanton.”
The formalities of Lady Danbury’s introductions were foreign to Eva. Considering her unusual childhood, receiving more love from her governess and maid than her parents, and her recent reclusion where she barely spoke to a soul, she was yet to put into practice the social rules she learned as a child. Her governess’ voice echoed in her mind.
Lower your eyes when you curtsy, ever so slightly. Keep it smooth.
She did just so, Kate and Edwina doing the same. She felt awkward. She considered Lord Anthony Bridgerton for a moment. He was undoubtably handsome, but his stoic manner and seemingly consistent frown clouded his more appealing features. Perhaps somebody with a stubborn manner such as himself would be suited to Kate, Evalina thought.
“It is a pleasure,” the Viscount said, locking eyes with Kate, then looking away quickly as if he was forcing himself. Interesting. He cleared his throat.
“Miss Stanton,” he said abruptly, causing Eva’s eyebrows to come together in confusion. “May I have this dance?”
“I- um-“ she murmured. “Yes.” She said, very little conviction in her voice. She looked to Mary, who gave her a small nod. Feeling backed into a corner, with Lady Danbury’s piercing eyes on her in particular, she took his arm and they moved onto the dance floor. The music began, and the pair began their dance.
“Forgive me, Miss Stanton, but how many children do you wish to have?” he said suddenly, causing Evalina to momentarily forget the steps. She had been particularly concentrating hard, and it was not lost on her that this was her first-time dancing at a ball. With a man. Whom she was feeling especially indifferent to in this moment.
“I suppose I have not considered a particular number, My Lord,” she answered somewhat honestly. “If I ever do have children, I would consider myself lucky.” It was not exactly a lie. More of a half-truth.
“Do you play any musical instruments?” Evalina could not help but be slightly amused at his incessant questioning and abrupt change of subject. Were they dancing, or was he holding a particularly grilling interview?
“No, I do not, My Lord. Lady Mary tried to teach me the piano forte when I was a girl, but I never quite took to it like Edwina did.”
“And do you read?”
My goodness, she thought. He was certainly not shy about what he was looking for.
“I do. In fact, it is one of my favourite pastimes. Besides writing. I would love to have my novels published.” She could not help but feel slightly more relaxed when speaking of the subject.
“And how would you manage such a career alongside a husband and family?”
Oh my.
This was far too much. Deeply uncomfortable, her eyes scanned the ballroom for an escape. An excuse to get away, perhaps. Thankfully, the dance finished, and Evalina barely managed to mutter an ‘excuse me,’ before departing the dancefloor rather quickly, darting past various people watching her. Right as she found the doorway, looking back to see if anyone, particularly Lady Danbury, were watching her, her shoulder collided quite heavily with somebody.
“Oh, I am so sorry,” she gasped, turning to face them, despite her embarrassment. Her breath caught in her throat at the sight of the man before her. He was quite possibly the most beautiful vision she had ever seen. His blue eyes shone brightly as he considered Evalina, an amused half-smile on his lips that seemed to light up his entire face. His dark hair was tousled effortlessly, his dress immaculate.
“I do not blame you for running, Miss…?”
“Stanton. Miss Evalina Stanton.” She said, curtsying, averting her eyes slightly as to not increase the already intense blood flow to her cheeks. What was happening to her? She needed to pull herself together. This was not like her one bit.
“Bridgerton. Benedict Bridgerton.” Eva’s eyes widened. The Viscount’s brother? “You seem to have met my brother. I apologise, sincerely. He can be quite…” he paused for a moment, considering his words, “abrasive, if he wishes to be. Do not take it personally. He is intent on marrying this season. Did he scare you off?”
“Oh, there is nothing to be scared away from, to be sure. I am almost certain I will never marry.” Eva almost stopped herself from continuing, wondering what it was about this man that was making her want to share so much.
“I- I came to London merely hoping to spend time with my close friends, the Sharmas. They are practically my family,” she said with fondness, and Benedict gave a small encouraging smile. “I do not quite belong here, I am afraid. I do not find myself in raptures with most of the marriage-minded people here, particularly the men,” she chuckled. “No offense,” she quickly added.
“None taken,” Benedict laughed, a little more enthusiastically than was perhaps appropriate. “I am inclined to agree with you. I know what it is like to feel as if you do not belong.”
The pair gazed at each other for a moment, then Benedict cleared his throat.
“Might I be so forward as to ask- well I just wonder-“ he hesitated.
“Please, go ahead. It cannot be any more forward than your brother’s line of questioning,” Eva joked.
“Why do you believe you will never marry?” he asked, insecurity all over his face. He was terrified of offending her, but could not help his curiosity. There was something about this woman, something he could not quite put his finger on that made him want to know more about her.
“I suppose I-“ she started, eyes darting away from his. “I only wish to marry for the greatest love match, or not at all.” Feeling uncomfortable with the man’s eyes on her in this moment of vulnerability, she quickly lightened her tone.
“In any case, I shall make my own way in the world and end up an old maid,” she said with a light chuckle.
“Miss Stanton, would you perchance wish to dance with me? I promise you; you do not want to leave unless you desire to catch the wrath of Lady Danbury,” Benedict said, pulling a face that made Eva laugh against her better judgement. Benedict decided in that moment that he had not heard a more beautiful sound in his life. Meanwhile, Eva decided she would never again reveal something so personal lest her conversation partner change the subject so quickly. She supposed he was right about Lady Danbury, and she was far too embarrassed to speak too much for the moment.
“Yes, I suppose you are right,” she said, taking his arm, ignoring how his muscles flexed when she lightly wrapped her hand around it, ignoring how warm his body felt next to hers. And they were not even walking that close to one another.
“So, Miss Stanton,” Benedict began, as the music swelled, and they began dancing. Eva could not help but notice how much more smoothly they danced together than she had with the Viscount, how much more relaxed she felt. “Considering your high standards for marriage, do you have any advice for me in navigating these treacherous waters?” His tone was teasing.
“I am sure you will do perfectly well, Mr Bridgerton. There is a myriad of eligible Misses upon which to make your selection for a wife, if you should please,” Eva said curtly. Benedict raised an eyebrow, his eyes shining with amusement.
“Do you mean to imply that women of the Ton should have no agency in marriage themselves, Miss Stanton? Do you think I should choose a wife without her knowledge or consent? That may be rather awkward.”
“Of course not, I only wished to-“ she began, then stopped, smiling. His tone was so earnest, his smile so genuine, she could not help herself in laughing softly alongside him.
“Perhaps I will forget to inform her for our whole lives,” he joked, as he turned her under his arm, taking her breath away slightly as he pulled her back to him, a little bit closer than last time. She took a small step back while they continued dancing.
“Perhaps you will never meet each other at all,” she laughed. “I cannot tell if I envy, or pity, said woman.”
“I hope you do not think so lowly of me, Miss Stanton.” Benedict said, his tone shifting. The song ended, as they bowed their heads to one another. Eva paused, scanning his face.
“Surprisingly no, I do not, Mr Bridgerton,” she breathed out.
------------------------------------------------------------
After her dance with Benedict, much to her dismay, several gentlemen requested dances with her. One such gentleman, Lord Berbrooke, a rather odd-looking, much older man with a slimy disposition, was requesting to be added to her dance card when she felt two people come up behind her.
“Eva!” Kate’s familiar voice interrupted Lord Berbrooke’s insisting, and Eva felt relief wash over her. “It has been ever so long since I have seen you, my dear friend,” she said, linking their arms together.
“Yes, pardon us, My Lord,” Edwina said, doing the same thing on her other side. “We have far too many things to speak of with our dear Eva. And did you not promise the next two dances to Lord Wordsworth?” The three girls couldn’t help but smile at each other knowingly, at Lord Berbrooke’s expense. Especially considering his ignorance. He was the perfect demonstration that an academic education did not always lead to a smart and perceptive nature, Eva thought amusingly to herself.
“Oh yes, I did. It would be awfully rude of me to decline him. Excuse us,” Eva said, as Kate and Edwina began to whisk her away. “I believe I heard Cressida Cowper speaking of you, Lord Berbrooke. She would appreciate a dance with you, to be sure.” With that, the three girls moved quickly to the other side of the ballroom, giggling to themselves.
“That was perhaps a little too harsh. Poor Cressida,” Edwina said lightly, shaking her head.
“Oh, come now, Bon. The two of them deserve each other,” Kate gave her younger sister a glance, the corner of her mouth quirking up.
“I suppose nobody deserves that man,” Eva reasoned, feeling slightly guilty. “He is quite awful. Oh, look!”
The three of them watched from across the ballroom as Lord Berbrooke offered Cressida Cowper his hand, as she turned her nose up in disgust and stalked off, a whirl of skirts. Edwina, Kate and Eva burst out laughing. At that moment, Eva felt an indescribable pull, like a magnet. Her eyes flitted over to her left, and she locked eyes with Benedict Bridgerton who was at the lemonade station looking equally amused. He flashed Eva a knowing smile across the room, and she tried to ignore how she immediately noticed it was ever-so crooked. Her cheeks flushed as she quickly looked away.
Stop it, she thought.

Alternate Universes- Kate Austen
Tumblr media
Pairing: Kate Austen x Reader
Characters: Kate Austen
Warnings: N/A
Request: N/A
Word Count: 442
Author: Charlotte
There was little to do on the island especially at night. No one had prepared to be stuck on an island, so no one packed much entertainment other than a couple of books, all of which you had made your way through. Luckily you had met a woman who you fell in love with and could talk to all day, every day without getting bored.
Kate and yourself had walked a bit down the beach, laying in the sand together to look up into the dark sky and look at the bright stars. It was beautiful to be so far away from other people that polluted the air, allowing a clear view into the infinite universe you lived in. You’d never been able to appreciate the night sky as much as you had since being on the island. Without the distractions of modern day light, you were able to appreciate the natural beauties you had once taken for granted.
You held Kate’s hand as the two of you pointed out different shapes you could see in the stars seen as you had no knowledge of actual constellations.
“Isn’t it weird how before being here we thought everything was such a big deal? Like being late for work or not finding a parking spot. But then when you’re just out here looking at the stars you realise everything is so miniscule when you look into the vastness of the universe. And then if you consider there could be alternate universes, losing your keys really doesn’t matter,” you rambled, turning to look at your freckled love.
Kate couldn’t help but laugh as she cocked an eyebrow at you.
“Alternate universes? Do you actually believe in that?” She asked.
You shrugged your shoulders. “I don’t know. I’d like to think there were some wacky alternate universes out there, like one where we’re all talking horses or something, but I don’t necessarily believe that they are real.”
“It’d be nice to think there were different versions of us that weren’t stuck on an island,” Kate sighed.
Rolling to prop yourself up onto your elbows you smiled at Kate.
“Well in at least one universe there would be a version of us that hadn’t even set foot on the plane. Then at least one other one that we’d have gotten to Los Angeles without any problems or one where a rescue team found us. And there’d definitely be some where Sawyer and Jack would confront their sexual tension,” you grinned.
Kate laughed at you, leaning up towards you to kiss your cheek.
“I don’t care what universes there are, as long as we get to be together.”

He Kissed Her
You and Sawyer had been seeing each other since a couple days after the crash. You thought there might be something between him and Kate but he always reassured you there was nothing. You were helping Charlie look for Claire's bags. You walked a bit into the jungle and that's when you saw it. Sawyer and Kate kissing. You don't know how long the kiss lasted because you turned and ran away. Tears started streaming down your face. You finally calm down and stop crying. You then continue searching for Claire's things. You find them and pick them up. You find Charlie and give them to him. "Thank you for finding them" he says. "No problem" you reply. He nods and starts taking them to the caves. You go back to your and Sawyer's tent. You pack up your stuff and head into the jungle. "Where you going, Peaches?" Sawyer asks. "I'm moving" you say coldly. "And where do you plan on going?" "The caves" you reply. "And you didn't think to tell me?" he asks. "No, actually I was hoping you wouldn't notice until I was gone." you answer. "You're kidding, right Peaches?" "No. I'm not" you respond holding back tears. You continue walking through the jungle. "We're going to talk about this!" he yells following you. "Nothing to talk about" you reply. "Did I do something?" he asks, frustrated. You turn around and look at him. "You seriously don't know what you did?" you ask. You're shocked how he could act like the doesn't know what he did. You keep walking and he follows you. You get to the caves and everyone turns to look at you. "Is it okay if I stay here?" you ask. "She's not staying here" Sawyer says angrily. "Yes I am" you snap back. "What's going on here?" Jack asks. "I have no idea myself, Doc" Sawyer replies. "He knows what he did" you say. You set your bags down and sit down. "I didn't do anything" Sawyer says. You wipe away a few tears. "I think it's best if you leave" Jack tells Sawyer. "What? I'm not leaving" he says. "Just for a bit" Jack tells him. "This is ridiculous" Sawyer says and stomps off into the jungle. You can't help the continuous stream off tears that roll down your cheeks. "What happened?" Jack asks sitting down next to you. You sniffle and try to talk but it comes out all broken up between sniffles. "He *sniffle* kissed *sniffle* Kate *sniffle*" Jack stays silent for a moment. He rubs your back. "I know that it won't be easy but I do think that you should talk to him about it. But you can stay here as long as you want" he tells you. "Thank you" you respond. You get no sleep that night. When you wake up you eat and decide to go find Sawyer. You make your way through the jungle until you reach the beach. You see him yelling at someone you don't know. You take a deep breath and walk over to him. "Sawyer?" you ask. He turns to look at you. "You can go" he tells the man. He leaves and you just stare at Sawyer. "I'm sorry" he says. "She kissed me at first I didn't react and I'm sorry but I did stop it and tell her I was in love with someone else." her adds. "At least you figured out what you did" you say with an awkward smile. "Do you have feeling for her?" You ask, nervously waiting for his response. "No. I love you and only you" he replies. You take a moment and then finally say "Good. Cause I love you too" He smiles. "Shut up" you say kissing him. He picks you up and carries you into his tent. He lays you down and is on top of you resting his weight on his arms. "Sawyer" you moan as he kisses you neck. He plants soft kisses all over your face and neck and you can't stop giggling. He smirks and push his face down to yours and kiss him. He slips his tongue into your mouth.
You lay there in your underwear and one of Sawyer's shirts. "So does this mean your moving back to the beach?" he asks. "Only if you help me carry my stuff back" you reply and he smirks. You smile and he leans down and kisses you.

Worth Your Time
The first time you slept with Jack Shephard, you were both drunk. Hurley and Charlie had found some vodka in an old bunker. Everyone had craved the distraction the alcohol provided and a party had broken out in result.
After your fair share of drinks, you had stepped away and gone to stare at the ocean. Jack had found you there, drunk and depressed. You had opened up to each other, you about the abusive relationship you were running from, and Jack about his father. You weren’t really sure how it happened, but one minute you were talking and the next you were having sex.
You had never really talked about it after it happened. It was only a few days later that you had a nightmare and sought out Jack. After that, you began seeking comfort in each other, and of course some other things. It wasn’t all physical though.
You and Jack talked about anything and everything. You connected, and you understood each other. You had realized too late into your relationship that you were developing feelings for him, and you couldn’t tell him. If you told him, then everything would get weird and he wouldn’t want you anymore. The voice in your head definitely belonged to your ex, but it was right. Jack was too important to lose.
Currently, you are enjoying the day. Sometimes on beautiful days like this, you like to pretend that you’re on vacation. You close your eyes and let the breeze blow through your hair, and you let yourself pretend for just a little bit that you have no problems. It helps to forget reality sometimes, especially when your reality is being stranded on an island where everything seems to go wrong.
Today the waves are sparkling and the sun is high in the sky. Charlie and Hurley are still trying to fish, even though they’ve never caught anything. Sun is off tending her garden, and Kate and Sawyer are flitting about doing who knows what. Claire wades into the water, rocking baby Aaron back and forth. None of these people are who you want to see. You’re looking for Jack.
You see him exiting the make shift medical tent, and you quickly jog over to him.
“Jack!” You call to him. When he sees you, his face breaks out into a huge grin and your heart flutters in your chest. He’s just a friend you remind yourself. A very hot friend that you sometimes have sex with.
“Y/n!” He calls back, mimicking your enthusiasm.
“Hey!” You say, finally catching up to him. “I have something to ask you.”
“Oh yeah?” He says, plucking some fruit from the breakfast pile, and taking a bite.
“Sun and I are going on a hike this afternoon. She’s needs help finding some seeds for the garden, and I was wondering if there’s anything you need medically?”
Jack looks up at the clouds, and makes a face.
“Are you sure you guys want to go today? It might rain.” You roll your eyes at his concern.
“Don’t worry, Jack. We’re big girls, I think we can handle it!” You wink. It feels natural to flirt with him like this.
“Alright, alright. I just can’t help it.” He says. His voice drops a little at the end, and it sends shivers down your spine. His brown eyes turn hungry, and he lets them rake over you.
It’s been a few days since you’ve been together, and you’ve missed him. His eyes tell you that he’s missed you too, even if his mouth won’t say it.
When he finishes looking you up and down, he catches your half-lidded gaze and smiles.
“Come back to me in one piece.” He leans in, whispering in your ear. “I’ll make it worth your time.” His pupils are dilated when he pulls back and he smirks at you, licking his lips.
Jack Shephard can be down right predatory when he wants to be. You shiver, and smile back at him.
“You know I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” You let yourself linger in the moment, and then you remind him of your original question. “So do you need anything?”
Jack looks sheepish, and rubs the back of his neck as he answers. “No, sorry I forgot the question.”
“I have that effect on people.” You flirt.
“That you do.” Jack looks up at the sky and then back at you. “You better go before I lose all semblance of self control.”
“If this is you controlled I can’t wait to see you wild.” You smirk again and then back up slowly. “See you later doc.”
You leave him there, practically panting, and hurry back to Sun.
————————————————-
The hike goes well. Sun manages to find a majority of the seeds she needs with little problem. You’re on your way back when you notice a patch of familiar looking plant stalks.
“Sun!” You call.
She turns around and raises an eyebrow in your direction.
“I’m going to stay behind for a little bit, I’ll catch up!” You say.
“I don’t know....” Sun says, glancing up at the darkening sky.
“I’ll be fine!” You say. “This is literally going to take like five minutes!”
Convinced, Sun nods and continues on her way.
“Be careful!” She throws over her shoulder.
You promise her you will, and then turn your attention back to the stalks.
When you were younger, your mother was very into natural remedies. She grew a lot of her own plants and herbs to aid in the healing process. Ginger was always one of her favorites. The root helped calm aches and pains, and it would be the perfect gift for Jack. You may not have medicine on this island, but you could use what was around you.
Quickly, you get to work pulling the roots of the ground. It’s hard work, and it takes you a lot longer to fill up your basket than you had hoped. By the time you’re finished, your hands are bleeding and the sky is nearly pitch black.
You stumble quickly onto the path, and start walking as quickly as you can. Maybe you’ll be able to get close to the beach before the downpour starts. You aren’t half as lucky as you wish you were though, because it only takes a minute for the rain to begin.
It’s a thick blanket of water, and there are no breaks in between downpours. The rain pounds against your body, soaking through your clothes in seconds. It also makes it impossible to see where you’re going.
Your boots start getting stuck in the mud, and before you know it, you’re slipping and sliding around. Everything is distorted through the water and you start panicking. Are you even going the right way?
The water starts gathering and rushing downhill like a fast moving stream. It’s impossible for you to keep your balance, and you fall, bashing your leg against the side of a rock. You feel it slice through your skin, and the pain is consuming.
The water keeps pushing you with its current, banging you against objects in the path. Finally, your head bangs against something hard and the world goes dark.
————————————————-
“Dude!” You hear a voice yell. Your head pounds, and you lift a shaky hand to feel around. There’s a tender spot when you touch it, and you quickly drop your hand.
“Dude, I think I found her!” Hurley says. His shouts increase the pounding in your head, and you go limp with the pain.
“Where is she?” You hear Charlie’s heavy accent.
Flashlight beams illuminate your face, and you listen as they start to panic.
“Oh my god. She’s dead, Hurley look at her.” Charlie says.
“Dude, I think I’m going to hurl.” Hurley says, gagging.
“Hurley, get a grip! Listen to me. Who’s going to tell Jack? He’s going to lose it mate! He’ll go absolutely bonkers.” Charlie says.
Hearing Jack’s name rouses something in you, and you have enough energy to groan his name. You want Jack. He’ll make you feel better and take all this pain away. Over the pounding of your head, you hadn’t even been able to think about the searing pain in your leg.
“Jack?” You ask again.
“She’s alive!” Charlie shouts and you listen as he and Hurley celebrate.
“Dude we’ve gotta get Jack, what if it’s not ok to move her?” Hurley asks.
“Ok ok good point. You stay here and I’ll go get him. They shouldn’t be too far away.” Charlie says, and you hear him run off.
“It’s ok, y/n.” Hurley says. “I’m here, and Jack’s going to be here real soon. He’s worried sick about you.”
Jack was worried about you? You smile, and it’s painful, but you also feel a lot better. Jack will be there soon and he’s worried. Your Jack.
The pain is slowly increasing, and you feel like maybe you could sleep a little longer before Jack gets there. I mean you wouldn’t be missing anything.
“Y/n??” You hear a voice call, and it’s Jack. You’d know his deep voice anywhere.
“Jack.” You groan.
You hear the snapping of branches as someone runs to you. Large, warm hands start checking over your body. Jack’s hands. You’d know them anywhere too.
“What happened?” He asks, and you can hear how wrecked his voice is. You’ve never heard him so worried before. Usually when he checks on patients he has a forced calm to him, but now he sounds desperate and pained.
“Rain.” You mutter helpfully. “Cut leg.” You wince as his hand finds the wound.
“Head hurts.” You mumble. You’re tired again. This whole ordeal has honestly worn you out, and Jack was here now. Everything would be ok, because he would take care of you.
“Don’t you dare fall asleep on me.” He commands. “Don’t you dare.”
“Ok, Jack.” You say, but everything is already getting hazy and unfocused. “Love you.” You smile. Colors dance under your eyelids, and you let them sweep you off into the dark again.
———————————————-
In your dream, your mother stands before you. She’s wearing the same familiar blue sweater and jeans that you remember.
“Mom?” You ask, tears in your eyes.
She smiles at you, and her eyes crinkle into lines at the corners. Her eyes sparkle as she looks at you. She envelops you into a hug, and you realize she still smells the same. She’s only been gone for two years now, but it feels like it’s been an eternity since you’ve seen her.
“Oh y/n.” She says, and softly lets your hair as you cry into her shoulder. “I’ve missed you so much.”
“I’ve missed you too.” You choke out, tears making your voice thick.
“You’ve been so brave, y/n. What you’ve been through... you’ve been so strong.” She smiles at you softly, and squeezes you.
Her words bring back memories. The island, the plane, leaving your ex, meeting Jack. Jack.
“Yes,” your mother says. “Jack is a lovely man. Every mother wants her daughter to bring home a doctor.” She teases.
“Am I dead?” You ask, suddenly fearful that you’ve left him.
Your mother looks at you softly. She shakes her head.
“Not yet. You can still pull through. Your doctor is giving death one hell of a fight. He’s not giving up on you anytime soon.” She smiles.
Of course he wouldn’t. Tears spring to your eyes as you think about Jack fighting for you, not giving up on you. You can’t leave him. You don’t want to leave him.
“Mom?” You ask. “I don’t want to die. Not yet.”
She pulls you into a hug, and laughs wetly. “Then you won’t.” She says.
“I love you.” You tell her. “I miss you everyday.”
“I love you too.” She says. Then she presses a kiss to your forehead, and everything dissolves.
————————————————-
You’re awake, but you don’t open your eyes. Pain makes your limbs heavy and your brain sluggish as you try to make sense of everything. You finally crack one eye, and groan against the painfully bright light.
“Y/n?” Jack says, hope colors his tone.
“Jack?” You ask. You reach out your arm trying to find him, when he catches your hand. You feel him cradle it between his palms, and he places a lingering kiss to it.
“Oh my god.” He says, and you can tell from the emotion in his voice that he’s crying.
You pry your eyes open again, this time determined to keep them open. You blink several times, before your eyes adjust and you’re able to focus.
Jack stares at you, eyes glassy with tears cradling your hand to the side of his face. His brown eyes are warm, and he’s smiling in relief.
“Hi.” You tell him shyly. You can’t comprehend why he’s so emotional about you. Jack has taken devastating loses on this island, and you still haven’t seen him look as torn up as he does now.
“Hi.” He says back, and it feels like it means everything. Your heart stutters against the intensity of his gaze.
“What happened.” He asks you, softly. He lets one of his hands trace the side of your face, and then starts stroking your hair out of your eyes.
“I saw some ginger root, and I remembered my mother using ginger to help with aches and pains. I thought it could come in handy, but it took me longer to harvest it than I thought. I couldn’t out run the rain.” You say. It’s a little embarrassing, to admit it. You know how stupid it sounds in retrospect.
Jack shakes his head at you.
“Should’ve known.” He says, but he smiles instead of reprimands you. You know it’s probably only because he’s so relieved that he isn’t yelling at you.
“What can I say.” You mutter, leaning back into the cot. You can tell you’re in the Med tent.
“Are Charlie and Hurley ok?” You ask suddenly. Your memories are a blur, but you can remember their panicked voices.
Jack laughs a little, and you smile in response, glad to know he is ok enough to laugh.
“Yes. They thought you were dead.” He says, and then all the humor leaves his face. You regret ever bringing it up as you watch him debate with himself.
“I thought I was going to lose you.” He says. He has the same look on his face that he had when he told you the “angel hair pasta” story.
“Your leg was sliced up really bad. Deep too. I had no way of knowing how much blood you lost.” He says, eyes haunted. “Then your head wound. God, I had no way of knowing how bad that was, or if you had other internal injuries. Then you passed out on me, and you’ve been out ever since.”
“I’m sorry.” You say, and you realize that you’re crying. Jack’s pain has become yours and you’re so mad at yourself that you scared him so badly.
“No!” He says, and hurriedly wipes your tears away. “Don’t cry! It’s not your fault.”
“But it is. I was so stupid.”
Jack just shakes his head and continues brushing back you hair. He’s being so gentle with you, and it’s such a stark contrast from some of your wilder nights. The thought brings a blush to your cheeks.
“I had to bathe you.” Jack says out of nowhere, and he looks awkward as tells you. Like he’s asking for some sort of forgiveness. “I had to clean the wound, and you were unconscious and I didn’t trust anybody else...”
You start laughing and you can’t help yourself. He just looks so sweet asking you to forgive him for helping you.
“Jack, it’s not like it isn’t anything you haven’t seen before.” You say, and your voice lowers a bit.
The air is suddenly charged with electricity as you two lock eyes. Your heart starts beating quickly again, and you wonder if Jack can tell.
“You told me you loved me.” He whispers.
Your blush, horrified. If you could, you would go back in time and finish the job the rain started.
“Jack, I’m so sorry.” You say. You knew you’d find a way to mess this up eventually. You couldn’t bear to lose him now.
“Did you mean it?” He asks. You search his face for any sign of disgust, but he only looks curious. You can’t lie to him, and you find that somewhere deep down you don’t want to.
“Yes.” You say. “But I was never going to say anything, I never meant to make it weird or-”
“Y/n.” Jack says, and he gives you a glowing look. He looks so happy, and your heart thumps painfully against your ribs.
“I love you too.” He says quietly. “I’m sorry it took all of this for me to admit it to you. I- well it was never just sex for me either, you know. It was always about you.”
“Me too.” You whisper quietly. Then you start laughing again. This time jack joins in, and the two of you laugh for a long time.
Jack looks at you like you’re his world, and then he kisses you gently. It is a much sweeter kiss than any you’ve ever shared with him, and it makes your whole body feel fuzzy and light.
Jack pulls away and you whine at the loss of contact.
“Jack!” You cry. He looks positively boyish like this. Young and happy.
“You’re injured.” He teases. “What kind of doctor would I be if I didn’t force you to heal properly.”
“You’re such a tease!” You pout.
He kisses you again, and laughs.
“You love me.” He sings.
“I do.” You can’t stop saying it enough. You pat the space behind you in the cot and give him your widest eyes. “Come join me?” Jack rolls his eyes, but comes to join you in the cot.
He takes care to wrap himself gently around you without disturbing your injuries. Content, you sink into the warmth of his embrace.
“You know, technically I did come back in one piece. And you told me you’d make it worth my while....” you trail off, wiggling your eyebrows suggestively.
“Not. Until. You’re. Healed!” He throws a hand up into the air. “I swear you’re going to kill me.” He says shaking his head.
Smiling, you think about your mother and the fact that you had almost died. It may be cheesy, but it was certainly true. Any second with Jack was more than worth your time.

Your table finished a whole two other rounds of trivia. Sam had won the next round, ordering your table some free cheese fries. There was a lot of cheese at the table tonight. The topic for the round was Movie Facts, which Sam was surprisingly amazing at, and unsurprisingly, Steve was horrible at.
Even though Bucky was just as lost as Steve, he helped you anyway, grinning every time he’d give an answer because it was very clear that he had no clue what on earth the question was even talking about.
You’d both gotten comfier, drinking a little more and allowing the trivia questions to be a sort of icebreaker between the two of you. That felt ridiculous, considering you usually weren’t so weird around each other, but whatever.
“What’s the first rule of Fight Club?” He squinted at your phone, “Easy. B. Don’t talk about it.”
The question was a truly easy one. Most people would know the answer even if they’d never seen the movie. You grinned, “Yeah, but how’d you know that? Sam make ya watch it?”
“Never heard of it,” he admitted with a shrug and a drink, “Just seems like a good answer. Don’t talk about your club dedicated to fighting. Why would you tell people about that? I sure wouldn’t.”
You burst out laughing, resting your forehead briefly on his shoulder, feeling him chuckle alongside you too, proud to make you smile.
The last round you participated in was Literature, which Bucky was actually decent at. You knew he liked to read, but you never thought he knew so many facts about Jane Austen or Stephen King.
“You clicked the wrong answer!” He feigned shock and reached over to tap the correct one which was asking Stephen King’s old pseudonym. “What kind of name is Robert Bluebell?”
“Bluebell sounds pretty. If you’re going to pick a fake last name, wouldn’t you want it to sound pretty?”
Bucky was still pretending to look at you like you were crazy, “He’s a horror author, who cares?”
“Well, the name Richard Bachman doesn’t scream horror to me.”
Bucky shook his head and leaned over even closer to you, acting as though he was just trying to get a better look at your phone. “Okay, next: What are the names of the Bronte sisters? Oh yes, don’t worry, doll, I’ve got this,” he winked at you.
He did not “got this” but that was okay. You didn’t mind at all when the answer was wrong because he groaned and momentarily squeezed your hand as he played up the role of a sore loser.
Truthfully, he didn’t care too much either. He just wanted an excuse to hold your hand.
Even if just for a moment.
Despite him knowing the occasional fact, no one at your table won. Some lady named Kate at another table did, and you all watched in a melodramatic bitterness as she claimed her free drink.
“Couldn’t even get her friends an appetizer, huh? Had to claim the free drink?” Sam shook his head. “I’d never do that to you guys.”
You huffed out a laugh. “You did last month.”
Bucky was all smiles, his nose scrunched as he giggled, your heart soaring as you watched.
Because Natasha was not playing much, she was the first to get a little tired of the night. She’d started leaning on Steve halfway through the Literature round, and when she declined ordering another round of drinks, you knew the night would come to an end soon.
“Sleepy, Nat?” Steve put an arm around her in a jovial manner.
She checked the time on his phone, “A little. But if you guys want to stay another round–”
“We’ll survive without another,” Steve shrugged, “The area in my brain that stores fun facts is getting jumbled up.”
Sam chuckled, “Or you just suck.”
“Dare I remind you that I won a round, Sam?”
You really did not want to head in yet, despite feeling a little tired yourself. Sure, tomorrow you and Bucky would continue on in the morning, sharing breakfast and maybe going to the training room after, but it was nice to just feel close to him in the booth all evening. The alcohol had given him the freedom to loosen up his body; he’d been physically relaxed, resting alongside you more and more as the night went on.
It didn’t feel like it had been long enough; you wanted just one more second to hold onto the feeling. Why did it feel so forbidden to want the feeling of his body against yours in a way that shouldn’t matter? Yet it did.
The feeling of him mattered. In the most irrevocable way.
Sam nudged Nat, “Want me to order a ride?”
“You sure?” She eyed all of you.
You nodded, “Good with me.”
Bucky quickly drowned the last few sips of his drink and then nodded. “Yup.”
While the food all night had been free, the drinks that had racked up on the tab still needed to be paid for. You were already reaching for your purse, “I’ll pay the tab. Think it’s my turn, hey?”
But then you felt Bucky’s hand on your forearm, “I’ve got it. Least I could do.”
“No, no, we invited you for a good time so–” You started protesting but he shook his head and shot you a little lopsided smirk that was all you needed to stop speaking.
For the first time all night, as though no longer in the trivia trance, Steve and Sam were eyeing both of you weirdly. Nat had been eyeing you weirdly all night, but that was kind of a normal occurrence.
“You do realize we get paid by the same guy, huh?” Sam pointed out, referring to how you all worked under the Stark name, a literal billion dollar company, and were in no financial competition with each other.
Nat gave him a subtle nudge as if to say shut it.
“Exactly,” Bucky pointed out as though agreeing with Sam before he gave your arm one last squeeze and pulled away, “I’ll pay. You guys book the ride. Gimme a sec.”
He stood and fled to the bar to do so, leaving the four of you and a plate of only a few remaining fries.
As you all waited, Steve leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table, looking at you pointedly. “I think he’s had fun.”
You did not know why he was just looking at you, but replied, “I think so too. Do we think he’ll come again?”
“That guy is definitely showing up again,” Nat grinned, closing her eyes as her head pulled back against the booth. She looked rather content with the evening. “I haven’t seen him smile this consistently before.”
“Yeah, at most he gives me a couple chuckles and then moves on,” Sam said as he worked away at booking an Uber. Who knew the Avengers took Uber? (Avengers: They’re just keepin it real!)
“Maybe you’re just not funny,” Nat told him, her eyes still resting.
“Says you.”
Steve spoke your name and nodded to you, “You sure got a few laughs out of him, hm?”
“Must be the mead,” you shrugged.
“Must be.” Something in his eyes though said differently.
Before he could continue, Bucky had shown back up at the table, zipping up his coat and looking at you all pointedly. “Ready?”
“Mhm,” Sam left his phone open on the table as he put on his coat, “It’s two minutes away.”
Nat slid out of the booth after Sam, linking arms with him. Steve quickly stole a fry before following, and you quickly after, holding your purse and shoving your hands in the pockets of your fall coat, not looking forward to the cool air outside.
Bucky was not one to lead the way in social situations, so the other three started heading out, but he lingered slowly with you, the last one to get out of your spot. It was a nice surprise, seeing that he continued to stay alongside you out of the booth, both of you walking side by side to go meet the Uber.
You kept your hands in your pockets, fingers picking nervously at your skin, as he kept his hands in his own pockets, clenched in fists as he bit his tongue from saying something stupid like, I had fun tonight.
Neither of you ended up saying anything, only occasionally bumping elbows as you left the pub. The Uber ride home also was pretty quiet, Natasha half asleep on Sam’s shoulder, Steve looking up movie fun facts on his phone so he’d ‘know better for next time’ even though he never did, and Sam was quiet and content.
You watched Bucky as he watched out the window, his eyes not tired as the others, but curious and wide. You wondered where his thoughts were at.
Once home, Sam and Steve hugged you and Bucky goodnight, Natasha mumbled a half asleep, “Night,” before Steve walked her to her room.
The quiet of the residential corridors in the compound was quite the juxtaposition from the pub not that long ago. You felt a slight ringing in your ears, rubbing at them, hoping it would go away soon.
Before even going to your room, you stopped in the kitchen to get a glass of water. You nearly dropped the glass when you turned from the cupboard and realized Bucky was still behind you, waiting in the dim kitchen.
“Sorry,” he slurred, eyeing you and then the cupboard before walking over to grab himself a glass.
As you poured yourself a drink, you reached your hand out for his glass in a silent notion of an offer. He looked almost smitten as he passed it to you and accepted the simple gesture.
You swung your purse straps over your shoulder again and held your glass, ready to leave. “You stayin’ up?”
He slowly licked his lips, realizing he didn’t have a set course of action. “Uh. Dunno.”
This earned a giggle from you, which caused him to light up in response. “Tired?”
“Not really,” he admitted, eyes on you.
A few options probably went through both of your minds as you stared at each other. You felt flushed, a smile growing for no particular reason other than that he was starting to smile too, his teeth perfect as his cheeks dimpled.
“Uhh, would you, maybe–” he swung his hand around in some effort to find words.
“Want to come to my room and watch Fight Club?” You blurted out.
Somehow, his smile increased. “Yeah. Yeah, I’d like to.”
Before making the move to leave, you paused and looked at your glass, then glanced at the cabinets. “Want more to drink?”
“I’m still pretty…” he waved his hand around again, a blush increasing.
“Drunk. Yes,” you nodded. “Still want something? I don’t have access to the asgardian shit.” Because you wanted something for yourself, you didn’t wait for an answer before peeking in the cabinets. “Looks like we’ve got like five different wines and a bottle of tequila.”
Bucky scrunched his nose. “No tequila.”
You held a bottle of wine. “Red?”
“Sure,” he smiled and grabbed some wine glasses. “Classy.”
“I think so,” you smirked, trying to hold onto the water glasses, your purse, and the wine bottle. “Ready?”
You could’ve sworn he looked you up and down, a satisfied smile slowly appearing. “Lemme carry the bottle.”
───※ ·❆· ※───
Even though there weren’t many other people on the floor to worry about, you both went as quietly as possible to your room as though you’d wake someone. It felt fun, tiptoeing down the hall, the two of you stifling back giggles that wanted to erupt even though nothing in particular was funny.
You unlocked your door and rushed him in like it was a mission, but unlike a mission, you actually started giggling when he ran in all silly, closing the door behind you.
It wasn’t like it was his first time in your room, but it wasn’t a common occurrence. Still, he found himself comfortably going to sit on your bed as if that was a normal thing, kickin’ off his shoes.
You didn’t realize you were staring while he took off his coat, throwing it on the back of your desk chair, until he was looking at you again. Quickly, you darted your eyes and put your own coat away.
“Gonna change quickly,” you muttered, “t’somethin’ comfier. Wanna borrow something?”
He patted his jean clad thighs and laughed, “Don’t think your little pj shorts would fit me, doll.”
To your dismay, something of a whimper came from you over his response. Luckily, you found distraction in going to your closet door first, “No, wait, I think I actually have some of Steve’s athletic shorts.”
“Why do you have those?”
“Spilled a drink on myself one night and he happened to have them with him,” you were giggling again, digging around in a folded pile of laundry, “I was drunk, okay, and it seemed like a better idea to wear this guy’s comfy sweaty shorts than my beer smelling jeans for the rest of the night.”
“Please tell me they still aren’t sweaty,” he groaned.
In response, you threw the shorts at him. Of course you’d washed them since then, just never having given them back to Steve, but Bucky still let out a squeak of shock as the shorts hit his face.
“I’ll be one sec,” you laughed, going to change and leaving him be for a moment.
Once you arrived back, in some lounge pants and a matching tee, you felt your heart race seeing him seated on your bed in such a laid back way, making himself at home as he went through a streaming service on the TV. More wine had been poured and resting on the nightstand.
“We messed up,” he looked your way, eyes quickly darting over your comfier outfit, “Fight Club isn’t even on here.”
“Oh damn,” you sat beside him yet slightly back, your back resting on the headboard.
“Guess I have to leave,” he sighed melodramatically, “Such a shame.”
You nudged his thigh with the side of your foot, “Just pick a different movie, idiot. Wanna watch a Stephen King one?”
“I think you mean Richard Bluebell?”
“Bucky,” you laughed and he turned enough to look at you, a teasing grin plastered on his face. “Have you seen It?”
“Huh?”
“It. The movie. The Stephen King story. Killer clown.”
He leaned back, resting on his elbows, not yet scooting up so that he could sit beside you against the headboard like a normal person. “Oh, that one. Hm. Nope! Don’t get it.” “I don’t know what to do with this answer. Wanna watch it or not?”
Still, he didn’t give a solid response, his right hand waving around as he spoke. It seemed as though Drunk Bucky enjoyed talking with his hands. His vibranium arm holding himself up, the bicep flexed in the position, he said, “What’s so scary about clowns, huh!”
“I think the scary part is that the clown is using his position to lure in kids. It’s about the murder of chidlren, Buck. Seems scary enough to me.”
He blinked up at you, “Wait, have you seen the movie?”
“Nope.”
For some reason, this pleased him. “Oh fuck yes, lets watch it then. FInally, something you know just as much information about as I do.”
“I mean, I know some things!”
Finally, he adjusted himself to sit closer to you, fulfilling the want you’d had since inviting him to your room; the want to feel him simply sitting flush beside you again.
Ignoring the racing feeling in your heart, you used the remote to find the movie which luckily was available this time, but you already knew that, which is why you brought it up in the first place.
You felt as Bucky breathed out a laugh, “Do you like scary movies?”
“Sorta. This has been on my to-watch list for a while, but I just didn’t want to watch it alone.”
He faked a little pout, and it killed you, “Aw, babyy, you can handle fighting against people actually trying to kill you but not this?”
The pet name, unused before this moment, was killing you just as much. “I- listen, in a fighting scenario I have control over my body and I am confident in controlling the situation. How am I supposed to control a demonic clown from trying to kill children! That’s horrifying!”
“It’s okay, baby,” he briefly patted your thigh, “I’ve got you. I’ll give that clown one look and it’ll go running.”
“Oh my god, Barnes, love yourself more than that–”
He laughed, tilting his head back a bit, “I meant because I like to think I’m intimidating, not ugly!”
“Oh fuck,” you blushed, “I mean– please don’t ever think that I think you’re ugly! Oh gosh, I’m sorry I–”
“So then you don’t think I’m intimidating?” he teased.
“Yes! I mean– NO! Or, I don’t know? Fuck, I–”
“I’m just messing with you.”
You continued to ramble, “You don’t intimidate me. But I think you do a good job of intimidating others? Please don’t ever think I’m scared of you. Oh god, and please, again, know that I would never think you to be ugly!”
“Okay, okay,” he laughed, pulling your hand into his vibranium one to calm you down. “I get it. I’m a decent looking dude who doesn’t scare you, but I can scare away a demonic clown. Sounds good?”
“Decent looking?” You gaped before even thinking about what you were saying. Sipping on more wine was not helping.
His brows shot up and he was back to smirking, “So we’re back to thinking I’m ugly then?”
“No,” you groaned, your palm coming to your forehead, “Stop running me in circles. Give yourself more credit, you’re a beautiful man and–”
He titled his head to the side, “Beautiful, huh?”
“Christ,” you huffed, “I’m starting the movie now.”
He just laughed lightly, giving your hand a squeeze. You faked an upset expression, trying to hide the fact that his hand over yours was a feeling you never wanted to let go of.
“Don’t worry, sweetheart, if you get scared, I’m right here, hm?” You didn’t know what was up with the new pet names he was trying out, but you didn’t mind. His tone was slightly teasing, but he didn’t let go of your hand and you knew there was truth there.
He’d be perfectly happy to have you find comfort in him as he had with you so many times. Even now, in the cozy walls of your bedroom, buzzed and warm and next to his favourite girl, he allowed himself to lose tension which didn’t happen to him often.
───※ ·❆· ※───
It shouldn’t be a surprise that Bucky was not that freaked out by the film. As horrific as Pennywise could be, Bucky’d seen—experienced— worse. Honestly, you had too, but that didn’t stop you from jumping during the couple of jump scares. During some uncomfortable points, you’d even groaned uncomfortably, playing it up by covering your eyes. The thing was, Bucky knew you were playing up the fear you felt, but he tugged you closer anyway, enjoying the excuse to have you in his arms.
By the time it was over, the wine bottle was empty and your legs were draped over his as he held you in his arms.
The credits rolled and as the movie effects wore off, you realized that it wasn’t the most normal thing between you to be cuddled up with your cheek pressed against his chest.
“Hmph,” you groaned, not caring if he realized you were disappointed. “All done?”
You could feel his rumble of laughter, closing your eyes and embracing it. “There’s a second one, yeah?” He asked you, his thumb absentmindedly rubbing along your arm.
“What time is it?”
He leaned a little bit to get a look at his phone. “Shit- nearly two. I wasn’t suggesting we watch it tonight, but there is still more story for another time.”
You hummed and sadly removed yourself from him, stretching your arms up for a moment. You did not see the look in his eyes watching you, but you could feel it.
You lulled your head side to side in an attempt at a stretch, but you just felt loose and tired. “Can we watch the second one some time, though?”
When you looked at him, Bucky's eyes were soft as he watched you, almost curious in a way. It felt strange that he held your gaze for so long. You almost felt shy, like you should look away, but those blue eyes of his were something you needed more of, so you wouldn’t give this up.
“Yeah,” he finally said. “Please.”
“Please?”
So subtly. A smile. “Yes. I use manners sometimes.”
You didn’t respond, only watch him, doing your best to not look directly at his lips.
Which— fuck— were so pink and full and begging to be kissed.
The thought of kissing Bucky was not something you indulged in often. You two just weren’t like that. That was off limits. He was off limits. That had to be some sort of Avengers rule right?
Well, sure Nat and Bruce were a thing once, somehow, and there was Wanda and Vision, but you were certain the others would find it odd if you did something similar. Natasha and Bruce were a weird thing in the end. You remember talking to Steve about that, thinking what the fuck. Surely, the others would think the same if you made a move on Bucky.
You made the decision to block feelings for him a very long time ago. Only knowing each other for a short period of time, he still set something off in you. He made you feel fiery, and whole, and you didn’t want to risk a damn thing.
“Um,” Bucky cleared his throat, shifting uncomfortably and looking away as though he’d read your mind. “I should go to bed.”
“Same,” you inhaled. “Hey, is it cool if I skip our morning run?”
“You’re telling me you don’t want to go on a walk in five hours?”
“My bad. That is exactly what I want.”
He chuckled and started scooting off your bed. “Yeah, sweetheart, we can skip it. Sleep in, okay?”
“Woah, you’re also skipping? James Bucky Barnes, skipping a workout?”
Bucky couldn’t stop grinning despite the tiredness that was now evident. “Yeah, yeah.”
You watched him stand, stretching his own arms. “Can we still meet for lunch?”
“Of course.”
“Okay.” You pressed your lips together, not knowing how to say goodnight.
He seemed to figure it out though. Surprisingly, he leaned and gave you a gentle kiss on the crown of your head. “Message me in the mornin’ if your hangover’s bad, okay? But have a good night, doll.”
You hummed, hating the loss of him against you as he headed for the door. “Goodnight, Buck.”
“Goodnight,” he gave you one last soft smile before leaving.
Just like that, you were alone. Half drunk in your bed, credits playing, and everything felt like some weird dream.
What was all that? What did it mean?
You went to brush your teeth, getting ready to fall asleep, a million questions running through your mind. Would he come to the pub again? Did he even want to watch the next movie? Did your cuddling make him uncomfortable? Maybe he doesn’t actually want to get lunch tomorrow, and is just being polite.
Back in bed, you stared at the ceiling in the dark, brain still buzzing and full of life despite being tired.
You just heard the normal sounds of the compound, the whirring of air con and the other mysterious clicks and all.
Someone walking by the door at night wasn't an abnormal occurrence, but you still sat right up when you heard the echoes of footsteps outside your room.
The footsteps got closer and halted; you weren’t stupid, and you were a trained assassin, so it was clear someone was directly on the other side of the door and it was pretty obvious that it had to be Bucky. Something lurched inside of you and you scattered off your bed to the door, not caring how weird it would look if you went to open it on your own as if waiting. Maybe subconsciously you were waiting,
The knock came quietly, just a couple taps, and you turned the knob without a care.
“Oh,” Bucky breathed out, shocked to see you answer so fast. “Sorry, I wasn’t sure if you’d still be sleeping or not.”
You felt out of breath, “I was gettin’ there. Heard footsteps.”
“Sorry.”
“Don’t be.”
Bucky’s lips were parted, his eyes almost afraid. “I just need to tell you something.”
“Okay.”
“A-and maybe it's because I’ve been drinking, but I still mean it, and I’ve been wanting to tell you this for a long time.”
You still had your hand clutching onto the doorknob, watching him carefully. “Okay.”
He took in a wary breath, then breathed out your name, and began, “You mean everything to me.”
His eyes had that rare hold on you again, the affection coming through more than the fear. You couldn’t even say a word. Only watch.
“I had an amazing time with you tonight,” he continued. “And I’ve been wanting to join you for months, but couldn’t just get the damn courage to.”
“There was nothing to be afraid of,” you interjected quietly.
He shook his head, “I was afraid that if I came along, I- I don’t know, maybe I’d see you be hit on by someone, or maybe I’d make some sort of fool out of myself in front of you, or maybe I’d have an amazing night just like I did and maybe I would just have the hardest time stepping away from you.”
You blinked a couple times. “What?”
“Ever since I met you, all I’ve wanted to do was make you happy. You are like some sort of fuckin’ sun in my life and I just want to soak you up every single day and just feel you and- wait not like that– wait, kind of– oh fuck, wait–”
“Buck,” you reached for his hand, which drunkenly was waving around. “Did you rehearse this?”
“Sort of,” a blush went to his cheeks. “Wanna hear the end or is this already weird?”
“Please finish.”
He licked his bottom lip, all the fear in his eyes gone because at this point what else could he lose? “I love you. I- I’m in love with you, and I think I have been for a really long time.”
Bucky couldn’t really read your expression; you probably just looked lost or confused or even scared. So after a moment of silence, he gulped and muttered, “That’s all. Um. I’m sorry for keeping you up–”
Before he knew it, your lips were on his, cutting off anything else he was going to say. It felt too hard and silly at first, your nose bumping against his, you uncomfortably straining yourself to reach his height. The moment wasn’t ruined though, because he was smiling, and you were too, and before you knew it his hands were around your waist and he was leaning down a little more and kissing you as soft as ever. Bucky fit against you perfectly, and you’d never felt more content as you did with him in the quiet hallway, at two in the morning, with your lips on his.

God Darling used to forge divine weapons, and within the canon of The First Contract, created Rex Lapis’ Vortex Vanquisher.
They were closet to Guizhong and informed only her about the special steps necessary to enter their realm (current day Yaoguang Shoal), to keep their people safe in the Archon War. Guizhong shared this with Rex Lapis upon his prompting.
Fishermen from Liyue pay homage to Vephar before and during their voyages. Some even keep jars of sand from the shoreline as a charm, a superstition said to be capable of earning the god’s protection.
In their non-mortal form, God Darling bleeds sand instead of blood.
God Darling is able to discern the descendants of their followers who survived Rex Lapis’ massacre upon laying eyes on them for the first time. They claim the initial meeting to be like “Hearing ocean waves through layers of noise”, and tend to dote upon the descendant throughout their life.

HWR Reader’s received a perfect GPA during her tutoring and was considered an ideal pupil, aside for one problem. She was required to learn to play an instrument, and chose the piano, but refused to take her gloves off during practice. Her tutor wasn’t brave enough to push the issue.
HWR Reader ranked 8th in the Phantom Troupe’s arm wrestling competition.
The only member of the Phantom Troupe to ever best her at chess is Chrollo. Their current scores are 3-2, with HWR Reader winning the most by a slim margin (he’s already scheduled a rematch). The only other member who has come close to beating her is Franklin.

Little Hands (V)
Series Masterlist
Bucky treats you to a day out.
This is an entry for @star-spangled-bingo 2021. Word count: 1625. Square filled: “Lucky (Clint’s dog)”
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Warnings: Police. Sad child.
A/N: This is so late and I am so sorry. Let me know what you think! And massive thank you’s to anyone who is still reading this disaster.
Tumblr media
Morning brings a new perspective, a new ease in the way Bucky moves around Ana. He pretends he doesn’t know that you witnessed the way they bonded last night, and for that benefit you don’t bring it up. It’s discussed and laid to rest with the intelligent smile you give him, one that he lets dissolve through his sternum and curl around his heart. Tendrils of soft hope, wisps of quiet connection, strengthening the friendship you’ve established and glinting with promise of something more.
Something more might have to wait, but Bucky thinks you’ve made it clear that it is there, on the horizon, awaiting you both. A future, one that, on his part, also involves the little soul that sits on top of the kitchen island, swinging her legs into the cabinets. Children are early risers, and so are superheroes, but today, on this cool morning, Anastasia has them beat.
So, it’s just the three of you. Bucky, and Anastasia, and you. You’re cutting up fruit and washing berries for the pancakes he’s making while you also remotely monitor the tea. A minty brew, warm, topped with honey and lemon, sharp enough to wake lingering drowsiness while still soothing, syrup-soft. You know your stuff, and Bucky’s glad to have a change of pace after a fast week of too much too strong too sweet coffee, even if he chooses to have it that way.
This particular change of pace would give him whiplash if not for the fact that he got a good night’s sleep, Anastasia’s nightmares notwithstanding. It has strengthened his resolve to find her a child psychologist, somebody who can help her better than he can, once this ordeal with Tobias Zola is over and they are all safe.
He needs to keep her safe. It was her mother’s – no, her final caretaker’s – last wish and request, and now that they are tied by blood, it has become his. She really looks so much like him. Her hair hasn’t developed the same brown yet, it’s still a shade lighter, with hints of golden for the lesser age, the summer sun bleaching that has yet to pass. It’s curly like his never was, likely an affectation of whatever female contribution is in her genetics.
Her genetics. Bucky shakes his head at the frying pan. He doesn’t want to sound like one of the scientists that put her into this situation, into this cruel, cruel world.
A clearing of your throat breaks him out of the thought bubble, and he flips the last pancake out of the pan and onto a plate, much to Anastasia’s delight. The ensuing giggle is the closest thing he’s heard to laughter from the kid. That’s not good. Children need laughter. He makes himself, and Ana, a silent promise to be more uplifting.
“Do you think we could leave the Compound, today?” You ask, out of nowhere, as you place the assorted fruit on the table. Ana, whose hands is halfway to the strawberries, stops as she waits on Bucky’s answer. Clearly, this is something she wants, too. Who is he to deny them?
“Sure. Fury might want us to take some security measures, but we should be fine.”
-----
That’s how they wind up at an ice cream parlor by 10 am, after the security has been cleared with Fury and Sam, and the only addition to their little team is Lucky, a dog apparently shared by Clint and his protégé in the city, one Kate Bishop. They’ve been told that while not a trained security dog, Lucky has sensors that will let Kate know if they’re in danger, and she can provide and send further backup. The rest of the Avengers are busy with tracking down leads to Zola.
Bucky knows he can protect you and Ana just fine, should need be, and isn’t worried about the fact that the only bodyguard they’ve been provided with is canine. Ana has bonded with the dog and walks with one hand in the fur by its shoulder and the other in his own hand, her eyes flitting between the sights of the city and her companions. Her caretakers. Her guardians.
The ice cream place is a little business that another one of Steve’s children is working at on weekends. is a head shorter than Bucky, and terrifies the living wits out of him. She’s one hell of a people watcher, she has a sweet tooth and a thing for Jane Austen, and the world is lucky her foremost interest is in dessert making and not something far more nefarious, like say, espionage.
She greets Bucky at the door with a hug and shakes both your and Ana’s hands, and lets you all sit outside so you can be with Lucky. The rusty fall sun makes Lucky’s fur shine like spun gold and light Ana up in hues of ruby and topaz, and you turn your face to the light and sigh.
For a moment, the world is quiet. For a moment, the scent of sugar crystallizes on his face like the sensation of rightness does. And when it ends, it’s not with a crash landing. It’s a gentle reorientation. You open your eyes, look at him with immeasurable affection. Ana pets Lucky. Vivien says, “Let me know when you’re ready to order, Uncle Bucky,” and puts a menu on the table.
You decide on a mango ice cream shake, Bucky wants an Oreo sundae, and Ana, of course, demands the largest dish on the menu, the one whose picture is emblazoned across a good quarter of the laminated card. A massive ice cream and berry split.
When your order arrives, Anastasia laughs for the second time. Bucky thinks he should say something, make a joke, conversation, but in this moment, nothing else could feel so forced. He’s a man of few words and many services. That’s how he chooses to love, and Ana can see that. You can see that.
It's why you nod affirmingly when he meets your eyes over Ana’s mountain of ice cream. You carry entire sentences in your glances, words of silent confidence, the fuel he is feeding on right now.
-----
Ana is happy. The world, if for a few hours, is right. He knows it cannot last, even now, walking back to the car after a morning and afternoon of joy, arms laden down with bags of new things, treats he never had but can now provide. Despite the resignation that has started to weigh on him, he reminds himself: his daughter has a home. She will be safe, and he will take care of her, no matter what it takes.
-----
The car ride back is louder than he anticipated. You give the music a go, playing something by Raveena, a sweet voice he likes but that Ana talks over, making quite the chaotic symphony that he likes even more. Lucky contributes the occasional bright bark that makes Ana laugh, pausing her incessant chatter, if momentarily.
Mostly, she talks about what she saw, the things she has now started to process, asks questions about the stores she did not previously have the luxury to, presumably because her previous guardian didn’t have the means, and besides, they were on the run.
He’s grateful to her. Irene. Before he was confused but now it is obvious: Ana is his daughter, and he wants her as much as any other parent does their child, even if the way she was thrown into her life was unconventional, to say the least.
Looking at her in the rearview mirror as she twists in her seat to reach Lucky in the back, he knows he will move heaven and earth to remove the threats in her path. It makes him dangerous. It makes him a father.
“You okay?” You ask, following his gaze, and Bucky smiles, eyes returning to the road.
“Never better.”
Your hand finds his where it takes a break from the steering wheel to rest on his knee. He twists your joined hands until he can hold yours. Squeezes it, as if to say, thank you. As if to say, we’ll all be okay.
-----
Turns out, he’s wrong, and this is why you should never rely on routines. Promises are made to be broken. When they get back, the NYPD is waiting, and not to update them on the case. He sees the waiting handcuffs, and he knows you do, too.
You make the right move, trying to usher Ana out of the room with some excuse or other, but it’s too late. Her instincts have latched onto the fact that something is very, very wrong.
The DA says, “James Buchanan Barnes, you’re under arrest as a suspect in the murder of Irene Orlov,” and Ana screams, and screams, and screams.
Bucky tries not to close his eyes, knows it’s too late to put his hands over his ears as cuffs close around his wrists. Besides, he needs to show that he understands the charges, and yes, they’re reading him his Miranda rights, and yes, he understands.
He’s innocent. And his team will prove it. But it’s no use arguing with these people, so he goes silently, even as he hears Sam, Steve and Nat going at it with the police chief in the dull background of Ana’s roar. It’s no use. The police wouldn’t be here without reason, and they’ll let him go when his team finds them reason to.
Everything is going to be okay, he tells himself. It has to. Because he doesn’t know what he’ll do if it isn’t.
Bucky sees you, tear-sodden and holding onto a distraught Ana, in the reflection of the glass doors before they slide open.

Exercise- Kate Austen
Tumblr media
Pairing: Kate Austen x Reader
Characters: Kate Austen
Warnings: N/A
Request: N/A
Word Count: 441
Author: Charlotte
Even though the island held a lot of beauty it also held a significant level of boredom. You had little to do there, after having found supplies and allocated jobs, there was little else to do. There was only so much area you were willing to search without getting completely lost in the forest and everyone now had somewhere to sleep, so shelters were no longer needed to be built. No one on the plane had packed activities that survived. Charlie had his guitar, but you didn’t know how to play and there was only a handful of books that were in one piece, but you had already read them all.
Kate suggested running down the vast stretch of sand. You weren’t too impressed with the idea seen as exercising wasn’t your favourite activity; however, with nothing else to do you complied hoping it would pass some time. You hadn’t even reached the end of the beach before your lungs felt like they were about to fall out of your mouth. Unable to continue running, you doubled over resting your hands on your knees attempting to catch your breath. Kate looked back and laughed, making her way over to you.
“You okay?” She laughed.
“I think I need to lie down,” you sighed. “I regret running.”
You did as you said, lying down in the sand, resting your head in the yellow powder, not wanting to have to ever walk or run ever again. Kate rolled her eyes at you, joining you on the floor, taking your hand in hers.
“You are a daft person,” she smiled. “You shouldn’t have agreed to run with me. I did find it weird as to why you said yes, you never agree to run.”
You shrugged your shoulders. “I know how much you like running, and you always cuddle me which I love more than you love running so it felt fair.”
She shook her head, pressing a kiss to your cheek, laying down to cuddle up to your side on the sand.
“Well I do love cuddles too, and naps, I know how much you enjoy naps,” she chuckled.
“They are amazing, naps and cuddles are the best things in the world especially when they are with you,” you grinned thinking about all of them. “And they are far better than exercising.”
Kate laughed at you. “You have to exercise at some point; for now, though, we can just cuddle hear and later we will run back.”
You let out a sigh of indignation. For now, you would enjoy being wrapped in Kate’s arms and just hate the run back to the camp.

Because I Love You Part 1
You woke up with a pounding headache and no clue where you were. It was dark and cold, and it smelled faintly of cleaner, a fake lemony smell mixed with bleach. You figured you must be inside somewhere if it was cold, the Island never got to be this cold, even at night, and that would also explain the smell. You were tied to something, and you were sitting upright... a chair maybe? You couldn’t quite think straight with your pounding head and uncomfortable position. You tried to calm down and think. What was the last thing you remembered?
You had been gathering fruit with Sawyer. It had been normal, nothing out of place. Both of you had been trying to out snark the other, when you had heard a noise. Nothing overly suspicious, but out of place enough to make you both stop and listen. You had seen the guy first, and had barely enough time to open your mouth when the man swung the butt of the gun down on Sawyer’s head, knocking him out. Only seconds later there had been a burst of pain in the back of your own head and your vision had gone black.
So some asshole had knocked you out too? But what for? And where was Sawyer? Panic gripped you again, but you pushed it down again. You had to keep control, it was the only way you’d get out of here.
You opened your mouth, trying to call out to Sawyer, but your mouth was like cotton and your tongue felt heavy in your mouth. You swallowed trying to get some moisture, and tried again.
“Sawyer?” It came out as barely a whisper, cracky and unsure. You swallowed, determined to try again.
“Sawyer?” You said. It was louder but your voice still sounded strange, echoey almost. Then the lights came on.
You were momentarily blinded by the extremely bright lights. The same kind you’d find in a hospital. The thought made you queasy. You were still trying to make your eyes work when you heard a voice. The most annoying voice in the whole goddamn world.
“Hello, y/n.” Said Ben Linus. Your eyesight was slowly returning, and you were starting to be able to make out the room. You could see him, or rather the outline of him, through some glass wall. You jerked against your restraints, desperate to strangle him.
“What the hell is going on you bastard!” You yelled, venom and rage dripping from each word. You had always been a fighter, and you sure as hell weren’t about to let a little weasel like Ben Linus intimidate you.
“That’s not very nice y/n. Didn’t your parents ever teach you any manners?”
“Did yours?” You snarled, jerking against the restraints once more.
“Touché.” He chuckled, a nastier sound you’d never heard. You swore in that moment that you’d rather go ten rounds with the Smoke Monster than ever see Ben Linus again.
“You took something of mine. And I want it back.” He said, realizing that the time for playing games had passed.
Instantly you were pissed. What the hell was he even talking about?
“Oh I think you know exactly what I’m talking about, y/n.” So you had said that out loud great. The pounding in your head intensified. “Three days ago, you ran into a couple in the woods, did you not?”
You blinked for a moment, before you were pulled into a memory.
The jungle was dark, but not oppressive. Your wet hair hung around your face, and you felt completely at peace. Showering in the hatch did wonders for your soul. Your pleasant thoughts about the shower were broken by people speaking.
“It’s ok Karl, just rest a minute. It’s ok.” A female voice you didn’t recognize was speaking.
“Alex we should keep going, I’m fine.” A male voice responded. You definitely didn’t know them. Your blood ran cold. What if they were Others? Your heart beat picked up slightly. You heard the male voice gasp and groan, as if in pain. You hesitated. Should you even approach them? It could be dangerous. The man groaned again, and you sprung into action. If you abandoned your morals now, you’d be just like The Others.
You pushed apart the trees separating you from the couple. The girl was a whirl of movement as she turned quickly and pointed a gun at you. Her eyes were as wild as her hair. You stopped short. Berating yourself for even getting involved. Her hand shook as she pointed the gun at you. Young, you noticed, she was young. Your eyes quickly flicked over to the man. He was young too. You couldn’t see the wound, but you could see the blood staining his thigh.
“I can help you.” You blurted without thinking. For a second, hope flashed on their faces. And then the girl spoke.
“Who are you?”
“I’m y/n. I mean you no harm. We have a camp not too far from here. Please, come with me. We have a doctor. He can help you.” The girl thought for a moment and then helped the boy up.
“I’m Alex.”
The realization must’ve showed on your face, because Ben spoke up seconds later with a smug look.
“So you do remember.” You wanted to punch the smile right off his stupid face.
Alex had told you that her and Karl were running away from The Others. Alex said that they had been threatened and had no other option but to run. Jack had welcomed them in and fixed Karl up. Jack. The thought of him caused your heart to constrict. Did he notice you were gone? And Sawyer, where was he?
“No. I don’t know what you’re talking about.” You said, succeeding in keeping your voice neutral.
Anger flooded Ben’s face. “I’m talking about my daughter!” He snapped. “Did you or did you not encounter her and her precious boyfriend?!”
“Daughter?” You mumbled surprised to yourself. Shock momentarily overpowering your self control.
“Yes daughter. She didn’t tell you?” He sneered, anger a little more in check.
You didn’t respond. Silence was safer. You didn’t trust yourself to say anything right now.
“One of my men saw you helping them. He reported it to me immediately. Asked if he should take you out or follow you to camp and take you all out. But I decided I’d let you have them. Let you all take care of them a while, and then I’d have my fun. Show Alex what happens when she disobeys me. Show her how her bad decisions affect others. But I’ll make it easy for you. Tell me where exactly they are and I’ll let you go. No harm no foul.” He smiles the fakest smile you’d ever seen.
For a moment, you thought about telling him. But then Alex’s face as she told me her story flashed across your mind. Her desperation to save Karl. She wanted to get away from here, start over. You couldn’t take that away from her. She was just a kid. She didn’t ask to have Ben as a father. And why didn’t Ben know where she was? Didn’t they know where the survivors camp was?
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” You repeated, firmer this time.
The vein in Ben’s forehead popped out. “I’m gonna give you one more chance..”
“No need.” You interrupted. “I have no idea what you’re talking about and I have nothing to say to you.” You finished your speech by spitting in his direction.
You watched in nervous anticipation as his face went blank.
“Fine. I didn’t want this to happen, but it appears that there is no other option.” You watched him move his arm and hit something on the panel in front of him.
The door that you hadn’t noticed before slid open, and in walked two men. They were carrying various items in their arms. You broke out into a cold sweat, but fought your hardest to look bored.
“Is this supposed to intimidate me?” You sassed. Stay in control, you reminded yourself. Stay calm. Panicking is what they want.
“These men will get the answers out of you, and they will do it by any means necessary. Last chance.” Ben’s voice flooded the room, but you were too busy staring at the knife one of the men had just pulled out to give him an answer.
If you had been able to pull your eyes away from the knife, you would’ve seen the pleasure flushing Ben’s face when he told them to begin.
*************************
You had blacked out from the pain a while ago. That much you were sure of. The beatings had been hard to take, and finally one of the men had hit you too hard. Blacking out was never something you had previously considered a blessing, but now that something was waking you up, you were desperate to feel the blackness again. To be free of pain.
Speaking of pain, your body was starting to feel it in waves. Every time your heart beat, the pain would grow steadily stronger. A groan tore out of our mouth. You could taste metal on your tongue. Blood. Then you heard it. A noise somewhere far off in the distance. A voice.
You couldn’t make out what it was saying. It was so echoey, so far away. Your ears were ringing. You heard it again, louder this time. The tone, it was familiar to you.
“..you ok? Can you hear me? Y/N? Shit.” You finally could hear. You were so out of it that you had no filter.
“My last name’s not shit.” You said with a groan, it hurt to talk.
“Oh my god! You’re awake. Alright sweetheart I’m going to get you out of there don’t worry.” You still couldn’t open your eyes, but you knew the voice now. Your thoughts were still hazy, and you felt a bit like puking.
“Sawyer?” You asked. You were beginning to feel more and more lightheaded by the minute. “How did you get out?” You wondered out loud.
“They never had me darlin’. Knocked me out cold and left me to rot. When I came to, I realized what had happened and came to break you outta here. Do you know how to open the door?” He questioned you, but none of that information really registered with you. You were too out of it to care.
“Darlin’ you hear me? You know how to get this goddamn door open? Those sons a bitches are gonna come back real soon if I don’t get you outta here fast.” He said. His accent was so funny to you, the words all ran together. You were so caught up in how funny his voice sounded that you failed to notice that it was getting far away again.
“Fuck. Alright. I’m gonna get you outta there ok? You’re gonna be fine.” You heard the loud noises, gunshots, you thought faintly. Then the crunch of glass, but it was fading faster now. You were getting what you wanted. You were gonna be pain free soon.
“Hold on sweetheart. Hold on. I’ve got ya. I’ve got ya.” You felt hands on you, gentle this time. Then the world tipped under you, and you were flying. You opened your eyes one brief second.
“Sawyer.” Was the last thing you mumbled before the world went back.
A/N: So this is part one! I’ve written out the whole story, so expect chapter updates sooner!! I’m really excited for this one:)
