reacting to the good wife season 4 episode 14, i'm just

i feel sort of let down because i was emotionally invested in this potential narrative where the fourth-years get together and do something and there's... noise? or chaos? whichever term fits best, i guess. even though i didn't think it would happen because the good wife hasn't proven itself to be that kind of show and they tend to wrap up their episodic plots without much variance in pacing between them.

also alicia's character is built on the cornerstone of acting "rationally," so to say, and there was never any choice for her but the one she makes. if anything i would say her lack of disruptiveness is the foundation the show is built on. but that moment, oh that moment, when cary brings up the idea of 'florrick, agos & associates,' there is so much... exhiliration, almost joy, that seems to fill up the screen. you grieve it even as you know it was nothing more than an idle daydream, not really.

there is such an expression of engaged, directed, passion in this episode in terms of how alicia and cary (and supposedly the rest of the fourth years) act and how that tension then spreads to the rest of the firm that it seems unlike anything we've seen from 'the good wife' before. i feel like at a certain point that also follows from how... sedentary the show tends to read when thinking of personal emotional stakes for the recurring cast of characters and i wonder how much of that is a consequence of alicia's curated internal... blandness.

I only ever watched Gilmore Girls by osmosis cause my sister was addicted to it. I wasn't into it, but since she watched (and rewatched) it I ended up seeing bits and pieces here and there, and I've always been partial to Logan in the which-of-Rory's-boyfriends eternal discussions. But rewatching The Good Wife, I think at least 70% of my preference is probably due to the fact I like Cary Agos so much. They're practically the same character, it's like Multiverse Logan.

Also he's just way too cute and I'm fickle, so there's that.
