if there are any Finns here that know some folksongs from the karelian isthmus I would be really happy to know about them, or just good finnish/karelian folksongs in general:D
I'm trying to connect more with my grandpa and his family came from the karelian isthmus. Since I like singing I thought that could be a good start (my grandpa doesn't know that many songs sadly since he left when he was like 4)

Nothing new indeed. Here are just some russified Finnish place names from the Karelian Isthmus:

* The name lives on in the name of the company Stora Enso ** You may recognise the name from the song Säkkijärven polkka
Place names in the ceded Petsamo, Salla, and Ladoga Karelia, have largely been left alone.
The population of the ceded Finnish territories was also completely replaced.

Please feel free to list more russified places from other countries.

Finnish observations of Soviets shelling their own troops on the Karelian Isthmus 26.11.1939. Four days later Soviet Union declared war on Finland using this as a pretext.
The map portrays observation posts Finnish troops used to identify the locations of the artillery strikes. The arrows from different posts indicate bearings to the observations, using Finnish military radians where a full circle is 6000. 1500 or 15-00 indicates east.

A Finnish L-62 Anti II anti-aircraft vehicle, Liikola, Karelian Isthmus, June 15th, 1944.
The Landsverk L-62 Anti II was an anti-aircraft vehicle designed for Finland by Sweden. It used an existing Landsverk L-60 tank chassis and added a turret with the famous 40mm Bofors anti-aircraft gun. Its full designation in service with Finland was Ilmatorjuntapanssarivaunu 41, or Anti-Aircraft Tank 41, the latter number referring to the year designed. During the war, eleven aircraft were shot down by the Anti II, and of the 6 built, all survived the war and several can be found in Finnish museums to this day.
