They didn’t know Alex was watching them.
She was the only one awake- Kelly was sleeping in near silence, her breath tickling Alex’s throat, as her head lay pillowed on Alex’s chest. After the reception had formally drawn to a close, the core group, the Superfriends, had all moved on to the sprawling mansion that Lena had generously rented for them to inhabit for a few days before Alex and Kelly left for their proper honeymoon.
Alex was the only one awake. They’d all be tired and hadn’t even finished the drunken game of monopoly they’d begun for old time’s sake. Kelly had changed out of her wedding dress and Alex out of her suit and they lay curled up on a loveseat beside the crackling fireplace. Nia and Brainy were in a similar state on the couch. Between them all, Kara’s little doggie monopoly piece remained where it had last landed on Park Place, forcing her to declare bankruptcy and, of course, end up ceding all her deeds to Lena.
The game was essentially over at that point and everyone knew it, so the drinking began to lubricate the passing of stories and telling of tales. A second buzz in the same day always hit harder than the first and everyone fell asleep where they sat, except Alex.
She had a sick terrible feeling in her stomach, not of regret surely, but a dread she had trouble explaining. It finally hit her as she watched the firelight dance across Kara’s features.
Something had changed. Something was over, a page turned to a new chapter. One where, Alex somehow knew, their lives would no longer revolve around alien insanities and mystical calamities. The world was settling, shuffling back to the state it was in before Kara caught that plane all those years ago and announced herself to the world.
A more normal time, calmer, changed perhaps in many ways but just… life.
Now that Alex was at the threshold with her toes curled back from it and unsure if she was ready to cross, she felt a little loss. Her future was looking less superheroic and more soccermometic; Kelly had her two-thirds of the way convinced to reactivate her medical license and join a practice. When everyone talked about their futures the sounded mundane, even Kara was more excited about her big new job and chasing her dreams.
Wait.
Alex was wrong. Kara was awake, she was just so utterly entranced that one might be misled into thinking that she was merely dreaming.
Kara and Lena somehow ended up in a wide chair together, curled up in a tangle of limbs, wrapped in Kara’s cape as a blanket. Lena was tucked in under Kara’s chin on Kara’s lap, clearly in a deep, peaceful sleep.
Kara, however, was very much awake. She held Lena in a particular way, at once shockingly gentle and fiercely protective, making a fortress of her arms. Kara was intently focused on her chair-mate, either staring at her with the most pitiful expression of fear and anxiety or nuzzling her nose into her dark curly locks and sighing.
Alex frowned, unsure what to do or say. Her sister looked pained, as pained as Alex had ever seen her. She knew for a fact that she and Lena weren’t fighting- they spent more time together than ever now; it had started with them effectively splitting their time between their respective apartments but over the last couple of months had shifted to Lena, for all intents and purposes, shacking up with Kara. They spent no more than one night in ten apart and of those nine they were together, eight seemed to be at the loft.
Whenever Alex set foot inside, Lena was simply there, for no special or particular reason, the two of them just sharing the same space casually and naturally.
So why did Kara look so broken?
“Hey, kiddo,” Alex whispered. “Why the long face?”
“I can’t talk about it now.”
“Why not?”
“I just can’t.”
“You guys didn’t have a fight or something, did you?”
Kara was quiet for a time.
“I think I waited too long.”
“For what?” said Alex.
“Don’t you know?”
Alex furrowed her brows, watching intently. Lena stirred, perhaps nudged towards consciousness a little by their murmured conversation and the urgency in Kara’s soft voice.
Then it hit her. Indeed, it struck her like a physical force. Kara looked down at Lena again and Alex gasped at the realization, wondering how the hell she had missed this, of all things.
She’s seen Kara smitten before, like she’d been with Kenny or the fuckboi from the dickhead planet. That was different. That was not this. Kara looked at Lena like she might not be able to breathe if she let her out of her sight.
Oh. Oh shit.
“We’re all moving on with our lives,” Kara whispered. “Taking new jobs, getting married, starting new careers. What happens when she’s too busy for me, Alex? When she finds somebody else and wants a real family and a real life and not… whatever we’re doing? What happens when…”
Kara must have noticed, her incredibly unfair super senses alerting her even before Alex noticed that Lena was awake, her blue eyes dark and soft in the flickering light.
Total silence fell over the room; all Alex could hear was Kelly breathing against her.
“I have a real family, Kara,” Lena said, softly. “They’re right here. You’re right here.”
“Lena?”
“I’m not going anywhere,” Lena said, lifting her head gently from Kara’s face. “Ever. I promise.”
They stared at each other for long heavy moment and said nothing. Kara’s eyes were so soft, her gaze so heavy with love, beyond love, adoration, almost worship. Lena gave her a little smile and looked up at her through her lashes.
“Oh for fucks sake, will one of you just goddamn do it already?” Alex blurted.
To her surprise, or maybe not, it was Lena who crossed the gap, who sealed the deal. She was the one who kissed Kara but in moments it didn’t matter who started it, and Kara simply stood and lifted Lena with superhuman ease and was already carrying her up the stairs.
Silence again fell on the room.
“Querl,” Nia said, from the couch.
“Yes?”
“You’re from the future.”
“Indeed.”
“You knew the whole time, didn’t you?”
“Yes.”
“Oh come on!” Nia snapped.
“I’m trying to sleep,” said Kelly, prompting Alex to snort.
Finally, they all did.

Brother Meets (Super)Girl - Supergirl x Male Reader
Tumblr media
Note: Fluff/Wholesome - Reader is Stephanie Brown's Brother!
Art by KaitynLeeds aka @violetsyrenart
A vehicle drives up the driveway up towards a mansion seen ahead of the vehicle's path, passing the gate after it opened to allow the driver inside to drive in after he confirmed his identity. Someone was awaiting him ahead of the driveway.
An excited blonde girl, dressed in casual wear, standing with some others who seemed intrigued to meet this person the girl has talked about a lot.
"Is this him?" Dick Grayson aka Nightwing asked the girl, Stephanie Brown, the hero also known as Spoiler.
"Yes! It's him!" Stephanie looked on with a huge smile, watching the red Honda CR-V pull over ahead of them, the door soon opening to reveal a young man in his 20s, step out the red Honda, his H/C Hair blowing in the wind a little as a smile dawned on his face.
"Sister!" the young man greeted from the opening of his vehicle, closing the door and headed around the vehicle with open arms.
"Brother!" Stephanie shouted with joy, rushing up to her brother with the action of giving him the biggest hug a sister could ever offer.
The man groaned a little from the impact and chuckled, his arms soon wrapping around his sister to hold her tight, he hadn't seen her in a while, a few years in fact.
The only way they could communicate much was through text or calls, sometimes letters if the signal wasn't working, he travelled throughout the world, either cross-country or through air travel.
The pair kept the hug going as the others smiled, happy to see Stephanie all excited again.
"I don't think I've seen Stephanie this happy in a while" Duke whispered to Cassie, who smiled.
"it's nice to see" Cassie said shortly after.
The two siblings broke the hug and smiled at each other, happy to see one another again after a long time, a sigh soon following after.
"I wasn't expecting to see you today" Stephanie said with a huge smile across her lips, eyes beaming with joy of seeing her brother standing in front of her. "You could've said earlier!".
"Haha, sorry. Wanted to keep it a surprise. And I was gonna be travelling back through, so I thought maybe pop in to say hello. Dick kept it all a secret though" he smirked as Stephanie looked shocked.
"You... Traitor" she pouted as Dick laughed softly.
"Can't break a secret, especially if it's a surprise" he shrugged there after as Steph shook her head with a smile. "It's good to see you, Y/N" he approached the man, patting him on the back.
"You too, Grayson" he nodded as he looked to the others. "And these lovely people must be the Bats and Robins I've been hearing about" he looked to the others, as a few looked a little flabbergasted.
"Oh yeah, my bro here knows our... 'Job', he's always known" Stephanie said to the others. "Haven't I already mentioned that?" she looked while pulling a facial expression.
"I... Don't think you did" Duke replied while scratching his head.
"Nah, she did. I remember" Jason approached soon after. The man looked a little intimidating to Y/N for a moment before he wrapped his arm over his shoulder in a brotherly way, surprising Mr. Brown. "So, you're the guy, Steph has been talking about a lot over the past few weeks. I didn't think you were much, but... Maybe I was a little wrong".
"And I assume you're Jason?" Y/N asked, looking up at the man. "Red Hood, right?".
"The one and only" Jason said with a proud grin. "What gave it away?".
"Just what Stephanie has told me about. Tall guy, brawny, has a white patch in the hair and a... A-A jock" Y/N said while a little intimidated.
"Haha, she's right on all those parts" Jason chuckled, letting go of the young man before patting him on the back roughly. "Welcome to the Wayne Manor, if I can be the first to welcome you?".
"Thank you... Jason" the young man said awkwardly, as Stephanie began to push Jason away with some effort.
"Alright, alright" Stephanie butted in, hands raised out while she scooted Jason out of the way, Dick soon followed suit. "I don't want him to be intimidated already by everyone. Let's take it down a notch, Y/N's probably a little too stressed with all the travelling he's done, don't want him intimidated by everyone here. And I don't exactly want him to be stressed or awkward around you all, so... Yeah".
"Still playing overprotective sister?" Y/N asked with a little smirk. "That's one thing I haven't missed about you".
"That's adorable" Tim Drake/Red Robin soon chimed in, as Stephanie began to blush awkwardly. "I didn't know you had it in you".
"Shut it, Tim" she glared at him as Y/N laughed softly.
"You're my sister's boyfriend, correct?" he peeped over Steph's shoulder as Tim nodded.
"Yeah, that's me" he smiled, approaching the man with his hand out for Y/N to shake. "Steph's told me a lot about you, you're a musician from what I've been told". he soon shook Tim's hand as Duke scratched his chin.
"A musician? Huh? I thought he was a cool vigilante to be honest" Duke said aloud as Y/N chuckled at both of the guys.
"I leave that stuff to those capable, like my sister" he placed a hand on Stephanie's shoulder for a moment. "Vigilante stuff ain't my thing, I'm not exactly built for that".
"That's Duke Thomas aka Signal" Stephanie introduced the young man to her brother as he waved. Y/N nodded back toward Duke. "He's newish to the family we've got here... And this girl here -" Stephanie began to push Cassandra up towards Y/N, seemingly shy to meet the brother judging from her expression. "This is Cassandra Cain aka Black Bat, one of my besties" she introduced.
"Hi" Cassie shyly waved.
"Hello, Cassandra" he smiled, waving back at Cassandra before he looked back at his sister. "Where's Damian?".
"He's inside" Jason answered instead of Stephanie. "Don't know what he's doing though".
"Training with Bruce, they've been doing it all afternoon" Dick answered next".
"Ah, Batman" Y/N said with an ecstatic smile growing. "It's still unreal to me that my sister is apart of this family" Y/N sighed happily. "I knew she was Spoiler, but... To be apart of this? It's... Crazy".
"That means you are too" Tim soon spoke up. "If Steph is okay with that?".
"Of course!" Stephanie replied happily. "I'd be happy to allow that" she smiled.
"I'm guessing Barbara is in this... Clocktower of sorts?" he then asked.
"The Belfry? Yeah, that's where she is mostly, working as Oracle" Stephanie then replied.
"Speaking of which, I should probably go visit her" Dick soon began to walk backwards towards the Mansion. "She found something on the sample I gave her last night from my patrol in Blüdhaven".
"Should I tag along?" Jason asked the former Robin as he shook his head.
"No, it's fine. She'll contact you all when she's found something about the lead also, Bruce is still waiting for her response after all" Dick soon walked off.
"Detective work?" Y/N soon whispered to his sister, curiosity in his tone.
"Yeah, pretty much" she soon whispered back. "So uh... How long you planning to stay?".
"A few weeks at best, then I'm along the road. My next trip is planned for Metropolis, then National City at best" he replied with an optimistic tone. "A studio in each city are needing me for my talents for their projects, and I'm also looking to do some more work with my music talents, so...".
"Oh, Metropolis?!" Stephanie perked up at the mere mention.
"Yeah. You seem... Perked up there?" he questioned his sister's action as Jason chuckled.
"Oh yeah, has she told you about her uh... other best friend?" he asked as Y/N realized immediately.
"Oh? Kara?" he blinked a few times. "S-Supergirl, y-yeah, yeah. I know" he looked away for moment, his heart beginning to race. "Steph's told me a lot about her too" his tone turning a little nervous as the others picked up on this.
"Just so you know... He has a little crush on her" Steph told them all loudly as Y/N snapped his head to face Stephanie, his cheeks flushing red completely.
"That's... Adorable" Tim replied.
"Yeah, I guess so" Cassandra agreed
"Stephanie!!" Y/N glared at the girl, frowning at her while trying to fight back his blush. "What was it you said earlier? You didn't want me to feel awkward?!" he scolded as the others laughed and smiled.
"What? It's just a little one..." Steph then began to smirk. "Or is it? You called her pretty cute when I showed you a few pictures of her, even on social media" her devious smirk grew
"Oh this is gonna be good" Jason whispered to the rest, taking in the scene".
"Where's the popcorn when you have it?" Duke joked along with Jason as the two others smiled.
"It's a little one! Just a little crush! Doesn't mean you had to say it out loud in front of them!" he continued scolding her, the red around his face getting brighter as his voice raised louder. "I called her cute because I was complimenting her! I wasn't actually trying to implement something!"
"C'mon! It's honestly pretty cute!" she pouted.
"That's really weird coming from you! Any sibling would say ew to that!".
"Does this normally happen between you two?" Duke then butted in politely as they looked at him together.
"Not much" Steph told him, but Y/N had a different answer.
"Oh yes, it definitely does" he said, still fighting his blush. "She's been non-stop teasing me about it once I told her over the phone".
"You've had this little crush on Supergirl for a long time now, surely it's grown further by now" she teased further, embarrassing her brother more as his blush deepened. "Oh my god... IT HAS!!"
"Ugh, okay yes, It has! Can we move on?" he asked with the note of wanting to forget about it. "I don't get exactly how this is a big deal to begin with, anyway? It's just a... A simple crush, that's it".
"On someone like her? Oh yeah it is" Stephanie said with a little excitement. "I honestly think you two would be perfect for each other".
"And how exactly?" he asked, his eyes glued on Stephanie as she laughed softly.
Before she could give him her answer, a noise erupted coming from the sky, a sonic boom that got everyone's attention.
"Did I just hear a sonic boom?" Y/N asked. "What was that?" he then noticed Stephanie smirking, as his eyes widened a little. "Steph... Why are you smirking?".
"I... May have told her you'd be coming by today" her expression turned sneaky as Y/N's blush deepened again.
"That sonic boom... Was-" his eyes soon landed on a blonde girl in a red cape descend from the sky feet first with a smile on her face. The S of Hope that was recognizable from anywhere.
"Yep, it's her alright. And she knows by the way" Stephanie smirked and winked before she and the others turned around to see the Girl of Steel herself, slowly descend from the sky, while Y/N had the privilege on seeing her descend fully,
The wind picked up her hair and cape gracefully, along with her skirt, giving her the "golden girl" moment in his eyes as everything seemed to fade out of existence, with only Supergirl in his view.
"Hey everyone!" Kara soon landed on her feet, fully descended down as she went to hug Jason. "Hey big guy, been a while".
"Sure has, Kara, it sure has" Jason replied happily, accepting her hug before it broke, as she went to greet the others.
"Hey there Timmy" she waved as he waved back. "Duke, Cassie" the two others also waved back at her before her eyes landed on Steph. "Stephie!!" Kara ran up to her normally with open arms as the two girls hugged tightly.
"Oh geez! You're squishing me!" The blonde bat managed to speak through.
"Oh? Sorry!" Kara giggled, easing her strength around Stephanie's figure. "Been busier than usual lately, sorry I haven't been able to hang out often. Especially when Kal is busy outside Metropolis" she began gossiping towards her best friend.
"It's no big deal, Kara. It's totally fine" Stephanie smiled back at Kara.
Kara was about to reply back to Stephanie before her eyes landed on the boy who stood a few feet to Stephanie's right, grabbing her attention afterwards as he stood still... Eyes slightly widened as he stared at her.
"Is this your brother?" Supergirl looked at Stephanie for confirmation, smiling with a joyful expression. "He looks cuter up close" she says, snapping Y/N out of his little daydream with his ears flushing red.
"Yeah! That's him alright!" she giggled softly. "Kara, this is Y/N, the boy who has definitely not been crushing on you for the past few years" she sought to tease him further as Kara softened her expression, laughing softly.
"He seems pretty embarrassed, poor guy. Don't tease him like that, Steph" she expressed sympathy, before giving him a smile. "Hi, Y/N" she waved, her smile softening with a soothing tone.
"Uh-Uh..." he stuttered. "H-Hi" he soon waved back, blinking a few times before he began smiling himself. "I... I didn't expect you, I mean, I. Ugh".
"You didn't expect to meet me, you mean?" she was surprisingly patient with him, smiling away at his expression and awkwardness.
"Y-Yeah, that's what I meant" he nodded, looking down at the floor.
"We're gonna head inside, let you and those two alone with each other" Jason suggested as he began walking back to the Manor. "I gotta clean my guns, they're needing a clean".
"We'll get Alfred to come help bring in your belongings!" Duke offered while they all began returning to the Manor, leaving the two girls and one boy alone together.
"Thanks Duke" Y/N replied to him as he awkwardly looked back at the girls.
Silence fell within Y/N as he tried looking into Kara's eyes but couldn't bare to do it, standing in front of the girl he crushed on for the last few years, had him a little uneasy. He almost cursed out Stephanie for suggesting his crush come to visit.
"So, I heard a little bat told me you have a crush on me, it's pretty cute, not gonna lie" Kara soon brought up. "If it makes it any better, I follow you on Vintagram and Facelook, I like your music as well, you're incredible" she smiled, breaking the silence.
"Danvers, right?" he asked with a blush rising, having built up some courage to look at her in the face".
"Mhm, K.Danvers_749 and Kara Danvers" she said softly.
"Oh! That makes sense!" he replied with a soft chuckle. "And... Thank you. I don't really think I'm incredible, but thanks".
"Are you kidding?" Stephanie said aloud. "Of course you're incredible! The fact your crush thinks so too, is saying much!" she teased at the end.
"Steph.." he looked away from sheer embarrassment while smiling, while Kara giggled softly.
"I think you can quit teasing him now, Stephie" she soon spoke. "The elephant has been addressed in the air already, as much as it is charming to hear he has a crush on me" she blushed herself too.
"You should've seen her face when I showed her your picture for the first time" she whispered into Y/N's ear, as Kara looked at Steph with a glare.
"I heard that" she crossed her arms with a frown. "And I don't know what you're talking about".
"Girl, you called him cuter up close earlier" Stephanie grinned. "There's no point hiding it now, I can see you two being perfect for each other" she said to the both of them, as they both blushed ear to ear.
"Are you saying... Supergirl has-".
"Mhm" Stephanie confirmed. "She sure does".
Y/N scratched the back of his neck as Kara hid her face in her hands, now regretting to have flown on by to meet HER crush for the first time. Now the two awkward as anything as Stephanie softly laughed.
"You both should see your own faces right now, oh my god" she reveled. "I'm so sorry, I couldn't help myself. It's the fact you're both meeting for the first time too".
"I mean, he was gonna find out sooner than later, but I would've told him" Kara said, frowning. "But it's okay, it's kinda cute seeing him flushed, it's pretty attractive" she smiled.
"You're... Attractive yourself" Y/N said back to her with a soft and nervous chuckle.
"Aww, cute" Stephanie joined her hands together in awe, teasing the both. "Won't be long until you both start kissing" she blurted out innocently, making the two blush deep. Y/N looked away with a embarrassed smile growing on his face.
While Kara slightly giggled softly, looking at him, practically hearing his heartbeat racing before her eyes caught the red Honda. "Is that your guitar in there?" she spotted, trying to drive the conversation out of the awkward moment they both felt.
"Oh?" he turned around. "Yeah, I brought my guitar in that case, two guitars actually. Brought some other belongings as well. I'm staying here for a few weeks before I travel again" he informed the Girl of Steel, his words perking her ears up with curiosity.
"He's going to Metropolis in a few weeks as well" Stephanie winked at Kara's direction, surprising her. "And National City"
"Wait, really?! I could help get you there" she offered before retracting herself, connecting her hands together shyly. "Um... If you want me to help?".
"I mean... I dunno how you'd be able to help, but the offer does sound nice" Y/N replied with a chuckle. "I'll think about it" he smiled as an elderly man was seen walking up to the three with Duke Thomas, Y/N assumed it was the Butler he had been hearing about from Stephanie. "Alfred Pennyworth, it's good to meet you"
"Mr. Brown. It is lovely to meet you" the British Butler greeted the young man back. "Master Thomas had informed me of your arrival, shall I assist in bringing in your belongings to the guest room?" the man offered.
"Thank you, leave the guitar to me though, it is quite a heavy load" Y/N suggested. "They're in the boot and thank you, again" he used his car keys to open the boot remotely, allowing the Butler to help out.
"I could carry it in if you want?" Duke offered. "Can't be that heavy right?".
"Be my guest" he scooted to the side of his car, opening the back door.
"And Ms. Danvers. It is lovely to see you too, quite an unexpected visit" he greeted walking past Kara as she smiled back at him.
"Just popping in to say hello, and get to know Stephanie's brother" Kara replied, watching the scene unfold in front of her as she kept her eyes on Y/N only.
"Huh? I see the way you're looking at him. Are you gonna ask him out?" Stephanie scooted to Kara's side as she looked at her shocked, while Y/N thought about Kara's offer for a moment
"No! I did not ask him out there!" she began blushing again. "I swear to Rao! Stop! You're embarrassing me".
"You could ask him out, y'know? He's right there!" she gestured toward Y/N, helping Duke pull out the case his guitar is in.
-"I told you it's heavy"-
Kara fell into silence, thinking about the mere thought. Sure it would be nice to be in a relationship, and be dating a young man, but she feared she'd put his life in danger if so.
"And put his life in danger?" Kara whispered back. "I-I don't know" she bit her tongue.
"Who says you would? It's not like the public is gonna know Supergirl is dating a normal guy, a guy like my bro!" Stephanie peered as Kara sighed.
"It's not just that, it's if any villains find out who I am without wearing the cape, they'll go for my loved ones, and Y/N would be on that list if I were to date him. I like him, don't get me wrong, but..." she sighed again. "I don't know if I'm worth it and we just met, so...".
"Look, I know dating while being a superhero is... Hard, I get that, been there, done that, which you already know, but... This is Y/N we're talking about, this guy has a crush on you, my own brother has a crush on you. I think he'd be happy to date you. He did go through a bad breakup some time ago, but if he was to date you? I think it'd make him a little more happier" she leaned on Kara's shoulder with her arm.
"You sure?" Kara said with unsurety.
"Yeah, very" Stephanie nodded. "I just think you two would be great together, you always wanted to date a musician, didn't you not?".
"Okay, okay, I'll ask him" Kara smiled softly with a sigh and a blush across her cheeks. "Rao, why am I listening to you, Steph?".
"Because you know I'm right!" she said with optimism. "Now, go ask him! While you've got the chance!"
Kara cleared her throat and took a deep breath, beginning to approach Stephanie's brother as he helped out Duke.
"And you carry this everywhere with you?!" Duke said while trying to hold it above the ground.
"To be fair, it's carrying two guitars, so..." Y/N replied to him.
"I've noticed!" Duke says with a little effort. "Don't worry, I can manage!" he said.
"Suit yourself" Y/N raised his hands up while backing off, turning around to see Supergirl having approached him. "Oh! Uh... Hi" he smiled softly, standing in Kara's presence as she smiled back.
"Hi" she waved back with a cute smile across her cheeks. "So... Uh... Y/N, I want to ask you something" she said with a rise of red in her face, maintaining eye contact.
"Uh... S-Sure?" he said nervously. "You can ask me a-a-anything" he nodded vigorously as he noticed Kara's hands were at the corners of her cape, fiddling around.
It was there she fell completely silent, the red in her face rising further up her cheeks before she looked away shyly with a cute embarrassed expression along with it.
'Oh Rao, Rao. I'm gonna screw this up!' she thought quietly, beginning to get a little overwhelmed by the thought.
Kara cleared her throat, trying to regain her composure as Y/N just looked at her in awe, waiting for her question to be asked. "Um... Would you..." she soon laughed softly with a nervous tone. "Would you... Like to, go out sometime? For lunch, or d-d-dinner perhaps?" she smiled awkwardly before burrowing her face into her hands as Y/N just stared at her with shock written all over his face as she took one look and began stuttering. "Omigod, omigod! You-You don't have to say yes, Steph thought it'd be a great idea for me to-".
"Like a date?" Y/N looked for confirmation if his hearing was deceiving him.
"Y-Yeah. A... A date" she fiddled with her cape even more, bringing the soft fabric out further as she looked down to the floor in sheer awkwardness.
"Yes" he said one word, one word and it completely baffled her. Making her recollect her words and thoughts. "Y-Yes! Of course! I'd... I'd love that".
"Really?" she said with hope in her tone, ecstatic at his answer. Y/N's cheeks flashed red with a smile, nodding towards her gently. "Lunch or... Dinner?" she then asked curiously as he thought about it.
"I think dinner sounds nice" he nodded before thinking on it more. "To be honest? I don't know where to go for dinner though" he chuckled.
"I... I think I have an idea" Kara thought of a brilliant idea before looking at Stephanie, giving her a nod of approval as she rushed over.
"He said yes?!" Stephanie looked like an excited puppy at this point, looking at both of them each second.
"Mhm" they both said in unison before Stephanie hugged the two together in joy and unexpectedly.
"You two are gonna be FREAKING CUTE TOGETHER!! OH MY GOD! WAIT UNTIL I TELL THE OTHERS ABOUT THIS!" she shouted with joy as Y/N held his right ear.
"Calm down, Steph. Any more louder, you're gonna burst my ear-drum" Y/N blurted out.
"What he said, and the last time my one burst was fighting Banshee" Kara added.
Stephanie broke the hug the two were forced into and giggled. "Sorry, I got a little too excited there, did I?".
"A bit, it's nice seeing that side of you" Kara complimented.
"I used to think it was annoying and it still is" Y/N said smugly, as Steph blew a raspberry at him.
"Shut it, you, I just scored you a date with your "super" crush, Kara, my best friend. You owe me" she said with a smug look in her expression.
"Ugh" Y/N groaned. "Bite me".
"Hey, you three!" Just as the two girls giggled, Duke had come back outside to meet with the three with an offer from Pennyworth. "Alfred is making tea, he was wondering if you wanted one or not?" he asked the group.
"Hmm, that sounds nice" Stephanie thought about it. "Yeah, sure!".
"Sounds nice to me as well, could have a cup" Y/N sighed happily, nodding in approval.
"He also offered to make one for you too, Supergirl" Duke then faced the Girl of Tomorrow, who looked blissful at the offer.
However... Just as she was about to reply, her expression changed to that of seriousness, her super hearing picking up commotion happening in Metropolis from where she stood, pushing a strand of blonde hair behind her ear.
"I'm so sorry" she then sighed. "Duty calls, I have to decline, maybe next time though" she said with a disappointed tone before facing towards Y/N. "How does Saturday feel? Six O'clock?" she asked him, grabbing his attention fully when Steph elbowed him gently.
"Uh... Yeah, sure. Saturday would be nice, six is fine with me too" he smiled in her direction as Duke looked at the pair confused.
Stephanie saw this and scooted over to Duke's side. "She asked him out just earlier".
"Already?" he asked her back, with Steph nodding very happily. "Anyways, I'll just let Alfred know to not make a tea for Supergirl" he said, returning to the Manor soon after.
"I'll pick you up" she winked and began hesitating, she then gave in and gave him something to remember her by for now, a cheeky kiss on the cheek as Y/N's eyes widened. Stephanie's jaw dropped with a gasp. "I'll see you on Saturday" Supergirl levitated up, smiling at his expression. "Bye Y/N! Bye Steph! Speak soon!" then... She took off, a sonic boom soon erupting in the sky.
"Oh. My. God?!" Steph approached her brother, looking at the cheek Kara kissed him on. "That was a... Kiss on the cheek! Already!!".
"Why are you so excited about that?" Y/N shook his head with a slight smile, softly placing his fingers where Kara kissed him. "It was just on the cheek" he said with a blush rising up.
"Still! She's into you, man! Like I said. You still owe me though" Stephanie leaned on his shoulder.
"Can you just... Take me to the guest room?".
"Okay... But you will tell me how the date goes on Saturday, or I'll pry it out of Kara" she winked.
"What do I owe you, anyway?" Y/N then asked with a deadpanned look.
"Hmm... You'll see"

✐ Only Human | Kara Danvers ✎
Tumblr media
Pairing: Kara Danvers x reader
Warnings: minor injuries, mentions of blood
Summary: Proposing to Kara doesn’t go quite as planned because in all her excitement she forgets you’re only human. . .
________________________________________________
Midvale is a beautiful town. The pine trees along the road are a luscious green and the few lakes I’ve spotted here and there on my drive glitter invitingly in the late summer sun.
I turn down another empty road and take a deep breath of the salty ocean air. I have the window rolled down and the radio turned up, smiling from ear to ear at the prospect of seeing Kara and her family again.
We’re taking some time off from work and superhero-ing and decided staying at Eliza’s would be the best way to relax and reconnect with each other and the rest of the Danvers family.
Things have been busy lately, especially at my job because I’m up for a promotion, which is also why I didn’t drive here with Alex and Kelly two days ago.
Kara flew, getting Alex and Kelly to take her bags with them.
I continue driving a couple more minutes, humming to the song on the radio until Eliza’s familiar beach house comes into view.
The sun has just gone down which leaves a faint orange hue across the sky and I smile when I see the lights turned on inside the house.
I pull into the driveway, turn off the car and roll up the windows before getting out and rounding the car to get my bag from the trunk.
“You made it!”
Alex’s voice makes me look up and I smile instantly when my eyes land on her standing in the open doorway with a glass of wine in her hand.
“Alex!” I beam and jog up the stairs to the door to pull her into a tight hug. “I missed you.”
Alex squeezes me with one arm and holds her wineglass away from our bodies with the other, pulling back with a smile of her own. “I missed you, too. Did you get everything you need?”
I nod and hold up my bag for reference, feeling nerves bubble up in the pit of my stomach at the thought of the small velvet box stuffed between my shirts.
You see, being stuck at work wasn’t the only reason I didn’t take Alex and Kelly up on their offer of carpooling. My jeweler called me the day before we were supposed to leave and told me there had been some delay on the ring I commissioned.
So, I had no other choice but to postpone my departure and because Alex didn’t buy my half-lie of being stuck at work a little while longer I came clean and told her all about my plans of proposing.
She was ecstatic, going on a rant about how my idea of doing it on the beach was perfect and how happy she was for Kara for having someone like me.
“Perfect. Now, come on in. We finished dinner a while ago, but there’s still some leftovers in the kitchen.” She offers to take my bag up to Kara’s childhood bedroom and I accept with an embarrassed smile when my stomach grumbles loudly.
“Y/N!”
Kelly is the first to notice me when I step into the living room. She just came in from the porch outside where Eliza and Kara are sitting on cushioned Adirondack chairs wrapped in throw blankets.
“Hi. It’s good to see you again,” I say with a smile, accepting the gentle hug she pulls me into. “How have you been? How’s work?”
“I’ve been great. Work is. . . Well, it’s work, what can I say?” she laughs before adding, “But I do love my job, so there’s really not that much I can complain about. How are you? I heard you’re up for a promotion.”
“I’m good, and yeah I am up for a promotion, but my boss said—“
A shriek makes my head whip around and I only see a flash of blonde hair before my favorite person launches herself into my arms, sending me stumbling backward. “My baby!”
I laugh breathlessly and grab the kitchen counter to regain my balance. “Jesus. . .”
The blonde wraps her legs around my waist and peppers my face with kisses. “Not Jesus, just Kara.”
I smile incredulously and glance at Kelly for some kind of explanation as to why Kara’s acting like this, but the older woman just shrugs and watches the scene unfold in front of her with a fond look in her eyes.
“What on Earth has gotten into you, my love?” I chuckle and squeeze the back of Kara’s thighs to get her to look at me.
Her blue eyes shine with love and I’m almost convinced she’s simply happy to see me but then she kisses me and I’m met with the taste of alien liquor on her lips. “N’thing,” she slurs with a dopey grin. “‘M jus’ happy to see you.”
“Mhmm, I can tell,” I tease which makes her frown comically.
“Hey, don’t be mean.” She pouts, but I’m quick to kiss it away with a couple of pecks.
“There. Better?” I ask and she nods, draping her arms loosely around my shoulders before unwrapping her legs from around my waist. I let her slide down my body and tuck her hair behind her ears.
“Much, thank you.” She leans into my touch and closes her eyes briefly before looking up at me with an adoring, yet slightly drunk look on her face.
It makes my insides melt and I can’t help but dip my head down to press another kiss to her lips, savoring the way my lips tingle at the contact before whispering, “Hello, darling. How are you?”
Kara tightens her arms around my shoulders and hides her face against the side of my neck. “Perfect now that you’re her.”
She sounds surprisingly sober which means that the effects of the alien liquor must already be wearing off. It gets her drunk pretty quickly but because of her fast metabolism it also gets absorbed easily, making the high intense but short-lived.
I kiss the top of her head, another smile growing on my face when I catch Eliza’s eyes outside. She smiles and waves at me, mouthing a “hi!”, just as my stomach growls again.
“Have you had something to eat yet?” Kara pulls back to look at me.
I shake my head. “Not yet, but Alex said something about leftovers?”
Kara goes to answer but Kelly beats her to it. “Why don’t you head outside and I’ll get you some? I was heading to the kitchen anyway to grab a glass of water.”
“Oh that’s nice, but I can—“
“Thanks, Kelly!” Kara interrupts cheerfully and tugs on my hand to lead me onto the porch.
I chuckle and look over my shoulder to thank Kelly before greeting Eliza properly.
She hugs me, asking about the drive here before Kara tugs on my hand again, pulling me onto the chair she occupied earlier and plopping down on my lap.
The view of the ocean is spectacular as the last hues of orange disappear to make way for the starry night sky.
I get lost in the sight for a moment, enjoying the feeling of Kara snuggled up against me as she chats with Eliza until Kelly returns with a steaming bowl of food and a glass of water.
She hands me the bowl and puts the glass down on the small table in the middle of the chairs and returns to her own seat.
Kara shifts so I can eat with her still in my arms and continues talking to her mom and Kelly.
Alex joins us a second later, taking a seat on the chair next to her wife’s and chimes in on the current conversation which I’m not particularly paying attention to.
I’m tired from driving and simply focus on the kryptonian warmth Kara is emitting and eating Eliza’s delicious chilly until the bowl is empty and my eyelids are drooping.
“You tired?” Kara whispers when I try to stifle a yawn. She sounds and looks completely sober now, playing with the collar of my shirt absentmindedly.
“Yeah, and I’d really like to shower before bed,” I admit quietly so as to not interrupt the story Alex is currently telling of her time in med school.
“Okay then,” she says getting to her feet slowly and pulling me up with her.
Eliza’s eyes dart in our direction at the movement and when she sees the exhaustion on my face she smiles sympathetically.
“. . . And then that lady just vomited all over me. I honestly thought I was going to throw up right on top of her, too, but I managed to run out before that happened,” Alex finished her story and all of us gag at the thought of being thrown up on ourselves.
“You guys going to bed?” Eliza asks once everyone has calmed down again.
I nod, feeling Kara playing with my fingers. “Yeah. It’s been a long day. Thank you for dinner. It was delicious, as always.”
Elize smiles bashfully. “Thank you, dear. Good night.”
“G’night.” I nod at Alex and Kelly and go to take my bowl inside, but Eliza tells me to just leave it.
Then, it’s just me and Kara, making out way inside and up to her childhood bedroom.
She used to share a room with Alex, but when Jeremiah passed, they turned his study into a bedroom for her.
“How was your day, darling?” I ask once we get to the room.
Kara closes the door behind us and jumps on the bed, having already changed into her pajamas before I got here.
“Quiet,” she says, taking off her glasses.
I hum in understanding and go to my bag to grab a change of clothes and my toothbrush. The city is loud, even for a human like me, so I know what she means when she says it’s quiet up here in Midvale. Yes, she can still hear heartbeats a mile away, but the constant buzz of the city is missing and I can only imagine what a relief it must be to get away from all of it for a while.
“How was the drive?” she asks. She gets under the covers and pulls the comforter up to her chest.
“There was some traffic, but it wasn’t too bad. I’m just glad I’m here now.” I smile tiredly and take a seat on the edge of the mattress next to her.
“I’m glad you’re here, too. What do you want to do tomorrow?” she asks, tracing the shape of my brow with a finger before dropping her hand in her lap again.
“Go to the beach, maybe? And then have some dinner at Mike’s,” I suggest. I know I want to propose, I just don’t know when yet, so I’ll just see how everything goes and then do it whenever it feels right.
“Sounds good.” Kara leans forward to peck my cheek and shoos me away. “Now go shower so we can cuddle.”
I chuckle and squeeze her leg over the comforter. Then I grab my clothes and head to the bathroom down the hall.
I shower, wash my face and brush my teeth before heading back to the bedroom with a yawn.
I expect Kara to be in bed where I left her, but when I enter the room she’s crouched on the floor next to the bed with her back turned to me.
“What are you doing?” I ask with a confused smile, turning to put my dirty clothes in the hamper behind the door.
Kara doesn’t say anything which makes me frown and turn back around to see her now facing me with tears in her eyes.
“What’s wrong?!” I rush across the room and kneel in front of her. I lift my hands, wanting to cup her cheeks but then her eyes drop to her lap and I follow her gaze with my own.
Oh shit. . .
Clutched between her fingers is an all too familiar, small, black box.
We both look back up at the same time and when our teary eyes meet I can’t help but smile sheepishly.
“Surprise?” I whisper. My heart is pounding in my chest and I feel like throwing up when Kara stays silent.
Her eyes dart between mine and for a second, when a tear runs down her cheek, I think even just the thought of proposing to her was ridiculous because she obviously doesn’t want to be with me like that.
But then she finally speaks, her voice shaky and quiet.“Ask me.”
My eyebrows dart up knowing surprise and I swallow thickly. “Are you sure?”
She nods as another tear runs down her cheek, but this time she smiles softly and pushes the box into my hands.
“O-Okay.” I get to my feet and pull her with me, only to drop back down on one knee in front of her. “Kara. . . I— This isn’t how I thought this was going to go, but here we are I guess. . .”
Kara smiles, teary eyed, and wipes at her cheeks. Her blue eyes are trained on me and her hands twitch as I speak, showing how much effort it takes for her not to reach out and touch me.
“I love you, Kara,” I start, my voice shaking with emotion. “I’ve loved you ever since you spilled your coffee all over me at Noonan’s and I love you now, standing here in your pajamas. You are beautiful and smart and the size of your heart leaves me utterly and completely speechless sometimes. The last five years have shown me what it is like to love someone, and be loved by someone wholeheartedly and I can’t imagine not spending the rest of my life with you.
“You once told me that being with you was dangerous because you’re Supergirl, but since I’ve known you I’ve never felt safer. You always have my back and I hope when you’re with me you feel even just a fraction of the sense of security you make me feel.” I take a deep breath and open the box carefully to reveal the sparkling ring inside. It’s a simple gold band with a princess-cut diamond sitting on top of it.
Kara’s eyes widen at the sight—even though she knew it was coming—and lifts one of her hands to cover her mouth in shock.
“So. . . Will you marry me, Kara Zor-El?” I whisper.
“Yes.” The reply is immediate and within a second she surges forward to kiss me. The impact of her lips on mine is so forceful, it makes me topple over with a groan and sends a stinging pain through my face.
“Shit.” I cringe and break the kiss immediately, bringing my hand up to my nose only to pull it back and see that it’s now covered in blood.
“Rao, I’m sorry.” Kara’s scrambles to get off me and helps me sit up before inspecting my nose. “Shit, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”
A new wave of tears makes its way down her cheeks, but they’re no longer tears of joy. Regret and guilt is written all over her face and when I wince, scrunching my nose, she backs up even more so she’s no longer touching me.
“Hey, no. It’s okay.” I wince again, but try to focus on Kara instead of the pain. I crawl forward and touch her chin with my clean hand, the open ring box on the floor next to us. “It’s not like this is the first time this has happened,” I try to joke, but it falls flat.
“Y/N, I—“
“No.” I push a finger to her lips. “I know you didn’t mean to hurt me, and I’m already feeling better, see? It’s not even bleeding anymore.”
Kara looks up with red-rimmed eyes, the guilt still evident on her face. “But—“
“No buts, baby,” I say with a smile. I grab the box off the floor and take the ring out before holding it up to Kara’s face. “Do you still want to marry me?”
She nods and wipes at her eyes again. “Of course.”
“Good.” I take her hand and, after waiting for another nod, slip the ring onto her finger. “Then that’s all that matters right now.”
Kara stares at the ring and I watch in awe as the heartbreak slowly melts off her face. It’s replaced by adoration and love and when she catches me staring at her, her lips twitch into a tentative smile.
“I love you,” she whispers, lifting a hand to brush her fingers against my cheek. “And I can’t wait to marry you.”
“I love you, too, and I will do everything in my power to give you the wedding you deserve.” I lean into her touch and grab her other hand, kissing the ring on her finger.
Shaking her head, Kara gently rests her forehead against my own. “I don’t need anything fancy. I just want you there.” I smile and tilt my head, wanting to close the distance between us, but a hand on my chest stops me. “Let’s get your face cleaned first.”
I huff playfully but agree, letting her help me to my feet before she pulls me to the bathroom.
I take a seat on the edge of the tub as Kara wets a towel.
“Tell me if I hurt you,” she says and I nod, closing my eyes as she gets to work cleaning the blood off my face. “Well, your nose is not broken, but it will probably bruise.”
“It’s okay. Like I said, it’s not our first rodeo.” This time, Kara cracks a smile and when I pull her to stand in between my legs, she drops the bloodied towel and leans down to capture my lips in a sweet kiss.
Her hands land on the side of my face, making me shiver when I feel the ring against my cheek.
“Let’s go to bed,” she says when we break apart. At the mention of going to sleep, I yawn which makes her giggle.
I change out of my bloodied top and go to throw on a clean shirt, only to freeze when I remember that the ring was at the bottom of my bag and I have yet to ask why Kara was going through it in the first place.
“Hey, can I ask you something?” I zip my bag and put on the shirt before joining Kara in the bed.
“Sure.” She snuggles up to me and places her hand on my chest, admiring the ring in the dim light of the bedside lamp.
“Why were you going through my bag?” I ask gently, not wanting to sound accusing.
Blushing furiously, Kara hides her face in the crook of my neck. “I wanted to steal one of your hoodies.”
I laugh and pull her closer. “Of course you did.“
Kara chuckles too and once our laughter has died down, she rolls over to turn off the light before returning to my side.
“I love you,” she whispers against my collarbone. “And I can’t wait to tell everyone that we’re going to get married.”
“I love you, too. . . Fiancée.” I run my hand up and down her back and shiver when the action earns me a kiss against my throat.
“Mhmm, Fiancée.” Kara exhales loudly and snuggles even closer before going still. “I like the sound of that.”
“Me too,” I admit and before long I fall asleep with a smile on my face.

Kara mumbled sleepily as she slowly roused from her slumber. It was late – she didn’t usually wake up during the night. Rolling over, she stretched a little, hoping to cuddle up next to the furnace that usually sleeps beside her and hogs the sheets.
But the blonde knew something was wrong from the moment she felt the contact of cool, empty sheets against her skin. Something was missing. Lena?
Lena had been fighting a cold for the past few days, and, well… she was definitely on the losing side of it. Kara had made her go to bed early after the Luthor had snuck her laptop out to the living room under the pretence of “watching movies” when in reality she had actually been answering work emails when she was supposed to be resting.
The blonde sat up and rubbed her eyes as she glanced over to her bedside, stifling a groan as she stared at the blank alarm clock. There had been one hell of a storm a few days ago, and the city hadn’t quite gotten round to fixing everyone's power. Instead, she stretched to grab her phone, mildly blinding herself for a second at the sudden flash of glaring white light. 03.02AM
The night was calm, even with her superhearing. The air was settled, people snoring and mumbling as the city slept. But a sudden loud thudding sound caught her attention – it was close. Kara looked back to the empty spot in her bed; Lena had been gone way too long to be put down to a simple bathroom trip. The noise came again, a crease forming at the centre of Kara’s brow. The only thing she could compare it to was the clatter of books as somebody clumsily pulled things from a shelf with no regard for creating a mess. What on earth was she doing?
The apartment was dark, the hallway barely lit by the moonlight filtering through the blinds. A small yawn escaped her as she shuffled towards the sound, leading the blonde to the small study that had been converted to be an office space for Lena – well, at least she’d been right about the source of the noise.
“Lena?” Kara’s voice was rough and thick with sleep; clearing her throat, she tried again, a little louder this time, “Honey?”
As her eyes began to adjust to the darkness in the room, she could just about make out Lena’s silhouette, barely. She seemed to be focused on one of the shelves lining the room, picking up an object just to then put it down a few seconds later.
Getting closer, Kara could see how her dark hair was stuck to her forehead, the skin visibly clammy as she breathed heavily, swaying uneasily – she was half sure that if the Luthor hadn’t been gripping onto the wooden shelf for support, she would’ve ended up losing her balance completely.
The other woman sniffled, swiping at her nose with the sleeve of a “borrowed” sweatshirt—the one she’d stolen from Kara’s wardrobe days ago. It hung loosely on her frame, making her look even smaller than she already was.
Before she could stop herself, a sigh left Kara’s lips as she padded closer, resting a hand gently on her girlfriend’s shoulder. “Sweetheart, what are you doing up?”
Lena flinched slightly at the contact, as if she hadn’t even noticed her come in. Slowly, she turned to look at her briefly, and it took everything in her for Kara not to wince at how miserable she looked.
“I was… was looking for…for.” The feverish girl stammered, woozily reaching up to hold her head with her hand, almost as if she had forgotten entirely why she was there, “I… needed something?”
It was more like a question than any sort of statement. She looked up at Kara, her eyes glassy and confused. She was so out of it. It took everything the blonde had not to scoop her up in that moment; instead, she leaned toward to press a soft kiss to her forehead, lips lingering just long enough to register the warmth her feverish skin was radiating.
“You need to go back to bed; come on.” Kara encouraged her gently, knowing it was doing her no good to be standing there any longer.
Despite how clearly awful she felt, the Luthor pouted, and for a moment, Kara could see the stubbornness brewing behind her tired eyes. But then, as if all the fight had drained from her at once, she let out a small sigh and leaned forward, pressing her forehead against her girlfriend’s shoulder.
“I'm so tired.” If it wasn't for her superhearing, then she would've probably missed her quiet mumble altogether.
Kara nodded sympathetically, your hand coming to rub her back softly, “I know, baby, I know.” She kept it there as she guided her back to the bedroom, taking small, slow steps as they navigated through the dim halls.
Getting her back into bed was easy; Lena practically fell into the sheets at the first chance she got, immediately curling up and stealing the majority of the duvet – not that Kara cared, of course. She grabbed the grey throw blanket that was mainly used just for show and settled down in the spot beside her girlfriend – she’d already fallen asleep, of course, her breaths coming in small, raspy snores.
Nobody would ever believe that a Luthor would snore. Hell, nobody would ever believe that a Luthor could get sick. But Lena was human, just human – and sometimes that human side of her really was adorable.

Kara's favourite time of the day had to be the small hours of the morning. The times when she would wake up at one or two in the morning and Lena had just gotten back from work, or she got up to get a glass of water or any other reason that caused them to be awake at the same time.
She loved those hours because Lena was always sleepy at that time, and when Lena was sleepy, Lena was soft. She was warm and cuddly. In that moment all she wanted was to be in bed cuddled up to Kara and that made Kara feel warm inside.
She loved having Lena lay against her, pulling her closer, as if Kara alone could keep her warm, which with Kara's unearthly body heat, wasn't far from true.
Kara loved how as soon as Lena got into bed she would instantly move her cold feet towards Kara's calves to warm them up.
Kara loved how Lena always buried her head in the crook of her neck and bundled the front of Kara's shirt in her fist as she tried to pull her closer.
Kara loved how sometimes Lena would throw her arms over Kara's back and then put her hands up her shirt and rub lazy circles on her back.
Kara loved how in her sleepy state Lena mumbled the most random and absurd things like, "You're fluffy" "You feel floopy too?" Or Kara's personal favourite, "You make me feel mushy inside"
Kara loved how she knew that Lena felt safe in that moment. It overwhelmed her heart with joy because she knew that she was the reason Lena felt safe. She was the reason Lena used words like floopy and mushy. She was the reason Lena was warm at night. And it brought tears to her eyes that Lena had allowed her to be that person to her.
Kara loved the conversations they had when both of them were on the verge of falling back asleep, but they still wanted to talk.
She loved how Lena always listened so intently to her for as long as she could concentrate and keep her eyes open.
She loved how raspy and raw Lena's voice was and how they spoke so softly even though nobody else could hear them.
She loved how they giggled softly while whispering to each other like giddy little school girls, gossiping about what they saw or found out that day
She loved that this was a side of Lena that nobody else got to experience. She loved that Lena only whispered into the darkness with her. She loved that Lena only giggled over stupid jokes and silly dreams with her. She loved that only she got to enjoy the delight that was Lena's raspy voice in the morning. That only she knew that if you woke Lena up in the middle of the night and she was not yet fully conscious, she spoke with a thick Irish accent.
She loved the times when Lena would get back in bed and instead of whispering an amusing comment, she would kiss the side of Kara's neck.
She loved it when Lena would giggle softly in her ear before placing a kiss behind it and asking her, "you asleep darling?"
Kara loved that when she replied "no", Lena would lift her head from Kara's shoulder and look her in the eye's before placing the most feather light kiss on her lips.
Kara loved when Lena just let her hands roam her body, but especially loved the moment when she was able to explore Lena, who she already knew better than the map of the small town she grew up in.
She loved listening to all the sounds Lena made. The softs pants and moans. The whispered curse words and encouragements for Kara to do more. Her favourite of course had to be when Lena would whisper "I love you" into her shoulder.
Kara loved that she was the only one who got to indulge in these moments with Lena. She loved that she was able to make Lena feel good, that she was the one making Lena say all the things she was saying. She loved that even in the early hours of the morning, in their dim lit bedroom, Lena found her attractive.
But mostly Kara loved that no matter how they spent those small hours, when they woke up the next morning Lena would always seem more content than other days. She claims it's because, "I got to spent a few more extra minutes awake with the love of my life." And Kara doesn't care what the reason is, she just loves to see Lena happy.
So she pulls Lena flush against her and whispers "five more minutes" and laughs at Lena's expected groan and constant protest of "Kara you can't keep saying that every five minutes, every morning" despite the fact that she too just wanted to stay in bed with Kara all day.
Kara loves the small hours of the morning because she gets to enjoy Lena in ways that nobody else gets to, and she thinks that that's an absolute privilege.

4. Garden
The very first time Lena had mentioned it, it was to tell Kara she couldn’t go with her to the farmer’s market the following Saturday.
"I’m sorry darling, I-I have to tend to my garden". Curiosity picked, Kara ignored the hesitation and the pet name and went directly to the questions burning on her tongue. "You have a garden?", "Since when do you have a garden?", "Why haven’t you mentioned it before?", "I feel like as your best friend, I should have know about that".
Lena chuckled at the now pouting blonde.
"I’ve had it for several years and only a handful of people know about it. And you know the old adage, it’s good to keep some kind of mystery. Secret garden and all that." She winked at the double entendre.
"But don’t worry, maybe I’ll show it to you one day, if you play your cards right", Lena added, eyes sparkling with mirth and cheeks slightly rosier than before.
She then left it at that, not offering any more details.
Over the following days, Kara tried to broach the subject again but Lena didn’t seem too willing to share this part of herself and remained evasive. So Kara decided to drop it for now even if, deep inside, she was dying to know more.
The next time the enigmatic garden was brought up again was entirely by accident. Kara had been thinking about it. A lot. But she was being a good friend to Lena and respected her privacy, so she had buttoned her lips.
Until one morning, a bit distracted, she entered Lena’s office and noticed a simple yet elegant flower arrangement on her desk. "Oh, those are beautiful! Are they from your garden?" She asked before realising she mentioned the forbidden topic.
"Sorry, I didn’t mean -"
Lena chuckled lightly. "It’s okay, Kara", she interrupted the blonde before she could launch herself into a ramble. "And no, those are not from my garden. But I do have roses and daisies in parts of it". She said as she gently touched the petal of one of the flower in question.
Time went by and as busy as they all were, the matter slipped out of Kara’s focus. It was still resurfacing every now and then, in passing, but Kara never got any additional information about it and it didn’t bothered all that much anymore.
More time went by and the pair found themselves growing closer to each other, slowly pushing the boundaries of their friendship.
Until finally, after a lot of flirting (from Lena’s side) and a lot of blushing (from Kara’s side), the blonde finally put her big girl pants on and asked her best friend out on a date.
One date turned into two and soon the two women were exploring the new aspects the romance brought to their relationship.
On the morning after their first night together, Kara woke up fully rested, delightfully sated and entirely happy. A blinding smile spreading across her face.
It must have still been early, as the light was just beginning to shine through her windows. Lena was still asleep beside her, resting on her own belly. Kara raised her head slightly to get a better look at the (very naked) sleeping beauty lying next to her.
She noticed some dark marks on the brunette’s back. Propping herself on her elbow, Kara was then greeted with the view of an almost full back tattoo.
How had she not noticed that the night before? was Kara’s first question. She decided to blame it on eagerness and the sweet taste of Lena’s lips.
She brought up a hand to delicately trace the ink, making Lena stir. Only then did she picked up on the drawings themselves: dozens and dozens of flowers, of various shapes and sizes.
It took her a second, but then it finally clicked.
"The secret garden!", Kara gasped loudly.
That fully roused Lena, who turned around, laughing gleefully.
"I did tell you I would show it to you were you to play your cards right." She said, making Kara blush. "And I guess you have" she continued before raising a hand to bring Kara down in a heated kiss.

Hii friend! can you do prompt 20 for Kara x sick reader? Only if you feel like it, no rush at all! 🩷
Tumblr media
Thanks for the prompt @trulysapphic ! 🫶 Finally got it written lol, I hope you enjoy! (Also sorry it’s a bit short, always more than happy to write a part two if ppl want!)
Supergirl/Kara Danvers x fem!Reader—“You sound like you’re catching a cold.”
The Perks of Dating a Superhero
“Babe you almost ready? They’ll be here any second!” Kara calls out gently across the loft as she puts the final touches on the dining room table.
It’s just a simple dinner with Alex and Eliza, but Kara is still anxious for everything to be perfect. You haven’t gotten together in a while so she’s excited to have you all hanging out and catching up.
“Right here, love.” You come up beside her, kissing her cheek as your hand rests on her shoulder.
Kara turns to smile brightly at you. Wrapping her arms around your waist, she gently tugs you closer and pulls you in for a proper kiss. Her lips are warm and soft, tasting vaguely like strawberries and you find yourself melting into her.
A knock at the door interrupts you two a moment later and you clear your throat as you pull back with a slight blush. Even after years of dating, Kara still manages to get you flustered so easily. Must be her Kryptonian charm. You have just enough time to collect yourself before Alex opens the door, inviting herself in with a wine bottle in one hand a small boxed cheesecake in the other.
You chuckle softly because it’s very on brand for her, though it momentarily catches in your throat, and you let out a small cough then wince slightly as you swallow. The action causing your throat to feel tight and slightly off. You just need some water.
You don’t think much of it, probably some dust or something catching in your throat but Kara turns to you, a slight frown plastered on her face that fades as quickly as it appears because you send her a reassuring smile and Eliza enters the apartment seconds later, effectively pulling your blonde’s attention from you as she goes to greet her adoptive mom.
You’re quickly swept up into the energy of the night as you all catch up on your lives—Eliza on her latest research, you on your latest cases, and Alex and Kara on their agent/hero duties (which they do their best to downplay as to not worry their mom too much), though Eliza knows they can take care of themselves.
The dinner is delicious, but you find yourself eating a little less than normal. You don’t notice one bit, but of course Kara does and she makes a mental note to check in on you later. Right now you’re laughing with her family and she wants to stay in the moment.
Her concern returns later though, when you pass on a slice of cheesecake. You love cheesecake. You claim it’s because you already treated yourself to something sweet on the way home from work and you’re full from dinner. You aren’t lying, she knows because you brought her one as well, but it’s weird for you to pass on treats when she’s pretty sure you have an even bigger sweet tooth than her.
“Hey love.” You feel your girlfriend’s familiar embrace as she wraps you in a gentle hug from behind as you finish up the last of the dishes from dinner. Alex and Eliza have left and it’s back to just the two of you in Kara’s cozy loft. Kara always offers to do the dishes with her superspeed but you usually decline, you like the mundaneness of the simple task. Living a life with a superhero girlfriend has its perks, which is why you sometimes take pleasure in the normal things.
“Hi baby.” You hum, smiling softly to yourself as you lean back into her unwavering hold and she kisses your shoulder. “Tonight was nice” You add after a moment of the two of you just enjoying the quiet together.
“It was. Thank you for cooking, it was so delicious baby.” She murmurs against your neck, her voice sweet like honey, placing a few soft kisses where you’re most sensitive. A shiver runs down your spine, but the sensation somehow does more than just make your heart beat a little faster and suddenly you’re having to pull away as your nose tingles and your breath hitches.
Kara watches in slight confusion before she realizes and her hand is gently on your back as you muffle two heavy sneezes into your elbow. You sniff harshly.
“Ble..” Kara starts but you hold up a finger, your eyes fluttering as your nose teases you again. You’re not done, it seems muffling had the adverse effect, only encouraging your nose to sneeze again.
“Nuhhh…hSHshhtshhh! Hhuhh’Tschoo! ‘chShiiew!” You catch the sneezes in your shirt, letting them out with full force. You rub your nose against your sleeve and internally wince at the wet trail it leaves.
“Oh bless you love!” Kara is taken a little by surprise and you can only sniffle again as you get your bearings. The dish towel you had been holding was now on the floor but neither of you cared. Ever the protective girlfriend she is, Kara immediately gently turns you to face her, putting the back of her hand to your forehead to check for fever.
“Are you feeling alright babe? You sound like you’re catching a cold.” She worries, concern etched deeply in her expression. You lean into her cool touch. “Dunno, maybe.” You shrug slightly and Kara takes note of your tone which is already littered with congestion after just a few sneezes. She hums.
“How about we take a hot shower? That might help, then early bed?” She proposes and you offer a grateful smile. “That sound wonderful, Kar.”
Your girlfriend beams at you, though you can still see the worry in her ocean blue eyes, and she takes your hand, leading you to the bathroom.
You sit on the closed toilet seat while Kara gets the shower going and once it’s running at a nice hot but not too hot temperature, she prompts you to get in while she goes to collect two extra fluffy towels and set out your favorite pjs on the bed.
When you step into the steamy shower, you feel as if every cell in your body releases a sigh. The hot water soothes an ache in your bones that you hadn’t even realized was there and you relax even further a minute later when your girlfriend joins you under the stream and holds your back against her chest. She kissed your shoulder, similar to earlier, but this time it’s more tender, sweet, with no further intentions than to just have you close and provide you with comfort.
“Any better?” She hums over the rush and pattering of water on the shower floor and you nod and she kisses you again. The two of you stand for a while, taking turns in the hot water and never letting go of your gentle hold on each other. Kara washes your hair, taking her time as she runs her fingers through your hair and massages your scalp. Your heart beats slow and steady, completely at peace under the tender touch of your girl.
Eventually, Kara can tell you’re getting tired when you yawn a few times and the two of you quickly wrap up your shower. Soon you’re both settled on your shared bed, both in fresh pjs, and you’re sitting cross-legged on top of the duvet while Kara sits behind you, running your brush through your wet hair. After brushing it out, she dries it with your hair dryer and you revel in the feeling of the warm hair on the back of your neck and Kara’s fingers running along your scalp.
When she’s done, she offers to braid your hair and you accept, the two of you exchanging sweet nothing as she works through your long strands.
“How are you feeling, baby?” She asks when you both finally settle down under the covers and she pulls you close in her arms. She kisses your forehead, relieved when it’s still of normal temperature.
“Tired, I guess. My throats a little sore.” You murmur as you gaze into her bright loving eyes. Kara offers you a sympathetic pout before leaning in to press those soft pink lips against yours.
“Poor love.” She murmurs in between soft kisses to your lips, cheeks, anywhere on your face she can reach. You revel in the way her touch both comforts and sparks something in you though you’re quickly turning away a few moments later.
“Kara! You’ll get sick.” You pout up at her but she only smirks in response.
“My love…” her voice is smooth as silk and she lets out a small chuckle, the sound tinkling in your ears like a wind chime on a sunny day. She kisses your lips once more, with a little extra passion for emphasis as she murmurs against you, “…I can’t get sick, not from you.” She reminds softly.
You blush slightly. “Oh right, superpowers.” The small chuckle you let out at your own forgetfulness quickly turns into a yawn. Kara simply smiles at you.
“You tired baby?” She hums, running her hands through your hair.
You shrug sheepishly, “maybe a little.”
Your girlfriend just pulls you closer into her arms and you tuck your head against her chest. You feel her kiss your hair before resting her chin atop your head.
“Let’s rest then, mhm? If you are getting sick, which I’m pretty sure you are, you’ll need some good sleep.” She says into your hair and you smile softly as you begin to close your eyes and settle even more into the comfy bed.
“Yeah, maybe we can kick this cold to the moon asap.” You agree and Kara hums softly at your words, knowing that probably won’t be the case. As soon as you start getting sick, you always end up sick, there’s no trying to kick it early. That’s just always how you’ve been.
“A kick to the moon? And I thought I was the one with superpowers.” She jokes lightly before adding, “what do you want for breakfast, love?”
You think a moment, your thoughts becoming slow as your body gets more and more relaxed. “Hmm whatever you want baby.” Your reply is punctuated with another yawn.
“Oh well in that case, I’m thinking I’ll surprise you…strawberries from Rome? Pastries from Paris? You’ll just have to find out I suppose.” She teases lightly and your heart warms because both of those are your favorites. Damn Kryptonian knows exactly what she’s doing.
“Ya know you don’t have to fly halfway around the world to get me breakfast?” You giggle and Kara huffs.
“Donuts and coffee from Noonan’s it is then.”
“Wait wait…I mean those strawberries sound pretty tempting.” You know she’s joking about Noonan’s, but you do want those strawberries. Kara hugs you a little tighter.
“I guess the surprise is no longer then. Strawberries it is.” She hums and turns out the light so you can both fall asleep.
You may not be feeling the best, but you’re in the best care possible. Just being in your loving girlfriend’s arms would be enough for you…but dating a superhero has its perks. And whether it be dishes at super speed, the strongest immune system in the world, strawberries from Rome, or just her simple caring touch, you fall asleep easily knowing you’re the luckiest girl on the planet because of her.

There was something decidedly… insistent about Lena’s footsteps. Kara knew it was her, of course, when she picked up Lena heading towards her apartment. Not just her heart rate but her breathing and mumbling to herself and the way she walked, her footfalls painting a picture of how she was walking, and she was mad.
Kara expected a complaint when she opened the door. Lena would sometimes launch without preamble into a rant about this investor or that senator or some such executive at this or that company and just rant adorably, balling her little fists. Kara would never tell her, because she’d feel patronized, but Lena genuinely was cute when she was angry.
Well, annoyed. When she was really angry, throwing a fit angry, fed up with the world angry, she was something else entirely. Kara would move heaven and earth, quite literally, to address whatever bothered her. When she was sad it was even worse and Kara just wanted to bundle her up in her invulnerable arms and shelter her from everything forever.
Lena walked into the apartment, not looking at Kara, and clearly fuming. She dropped the order she’d picked up on the way into the kitchen island and stared at it, then finally glared at Kara. There was no mistaking the subject of her anger.
Kara fidgeted nervously. She shifted on her feet, feeling a pressure of Lena’s gaze that forced her own away.
“Lena? Is something wrong?” She swallowed, hard. “Bad day?”
“Something is wrong,” Lena said, very softly, in the icy tone she reserved for the fools she did not suffer gladly. “Take off your glasses.”
“What?”
“Take off your glasses, Kara.”
“But I can’t see…”
Lena stepped forward and put her hand on the takeout order in its plastic bag. Kara had ordered it and Lena had agreed to pick it up, far from be first time they’d done that. Lena often ordered for them and Kara brought it when Lena was hosting.
Right now Lena was trembling, head tilted forward like she meant to charge, eyes locked on Kara.
“Glasses. Off.”
Kara hesitated briefly.
“Okay,” she muttered, screaming at herself not to do this, pleading for some kind of distraction.
All she wanted to do tonight was curl up with Lena on the couch and watch a movie and focus very very hard on not giving away how badly she wanted to make out with her.
Kara slowly took the earpieces in her hands and slipped them off, setting the too-heavy frames on the table with a soft clunk. The word rushed in, sounds more vibrant and distracting, colors almost unpleasantly sharp.
Lena was staring at her. Her nostrils flared and her fists clenched. She took her hand from the food bag and took another step forward, then another, finally picking up the glasses in her own hand, feeling them. She raised them as if to put them on and stared through them.
“For someone who says she’s blind without them, these glasses don’t have a very strong prescription, do they.”
Possibilities raced through Kara’s mind. Things she could say, things she might do. She’d squeaked out of this before, somehow evaded Lena’s staggering intellect. She had seen curiosity darken her brows, maybe even brief moments of suspicion.
This was different. Heavier. More serious.
“What gave me away?”
“Everything, really. All the pieces were there this whole time, but I just refused to put them together on my own. It took a flat out slap in the face to make me choose to see it.”
Kara’s chest felt like it was caving in. Everything was going wrong. Her chin quivered and the tears began welling hot behind her eyes.
Lena looked at her flatly. “The guy at the take out place asked me why I was picking up Supergirl’s order. I asked him what the hell he was talking about and he told me Supergirl comes on all the time. Then he showed me a selfie.”
Kara licked her lips.
“It has to be a mistake.”
“They have your number on their speed dial as Supergirl, Kara. You let their delivery kid take a selfie in your suit. They wouldn’t let me pay for it. The old lady that owns the place said ‘Supergirls girlfriend, no charge!’ and started laughing.”
Kara stared at her.
“Lena…”
“You better have a good fucking explanation for why your favorite restaurant knows who you really are and not your supposed best friend.”
The tension in their air was palpable, electric. Kara could feel it like the gathering energy in the air before a storm, ready to burst forth with energy and life or mindless destruction. She folded her arms around herself and looked down.
“You do know me,” Kara finally said. “You do know who I really am. You’re the only person who does.”
Lena’s extension was fixed, intense, edging between a scowl and a pout, and Kara realized with a start that she was holding back tears of her own.
“You’re the only person that knows me as me. You know me without Supergirl, but without all the fake stuff I do so people won’t realize I’m Supergirl. I don’t have to pretend to be clumsy with you. You’re not always looking at me like I’m super strong or super fast. I can just be me when I’m with you.”
“You’ve lied to me so many times,” Lena said, after drawing in a deep breath. “Running away from our lunches, telling me wild stories about where you disappear to at work, and I just bought every bit of it. You must think I’m an easy mark.”
“No, never.”
“I’ve always had it in the back of my head. I always thought there was something there, something between us that kept you from really, truly being yourself with me. The way your touches are always so whisper-light and you’re always stealing glances at me. Like you were afraid with every word or movement that you’d give something away.”
“Lena,” Kara began.
“I knew you were hiding something. I had hoped it was something else.”
Kara licked her lips. She quickened her perception, a little trick of will that took her out of sync with the humans around her, processing the world at her natural speed, which made her peers seem almost frozen in place by comparison.
She took this drawn out instant to really look at Lena, truly take her in, savor what she was seeing because it might be the end. She was suddenly heavily, painfully aware that this might be the last time she ever looked on Lena in person.
Great father Rao, she was so beautiful. Not hot or pretty or even gorgeous or sexy, beautiful. She was dressed for the autumn chill in a pea coat and turtleneck and black leggings and her hair was down, letting itself soften into her natural waves. She was without makeup, and Kara suddenly realized that she only ever saw Lena without makeup when she meant to be alone with Kara. When she was her most pure, most true self.
Kara slowed herself again and as she did the world sped up, and she drank in the soft sadness in Lena’s blue-green eyes and all of those things she’d pushed deep down came bubbling to the surface: imagined sighs and the feeling of that lustrous inky hair slipping through her fingers, her name whispered on pillowy lips.
Human thoughts. Alien thoughts. Desires no Kryptonian should even apprehend, much less indulge. The very idea of the non-procreative act was shameful, and to develop these emotional entanglement…
Kara had once mourned her failure, for she had been charged with preserving the ways of her people. Her first command had been to keep Kal Kryptonian.
A task she had failed even within herself.
“You hoped it was something else?”
Lena looked at her so sadly and so sweetly and swallowed.
“Yeah,” she said in a thick voice, “I kinda did.”
Kara smiled in spite of herself. When she sighed, it was as if the weight of a world slid off her shoulders.
“Can’t a girl have two secrets?”
Lena’s eyes widened.
“One day a long time ago, very very far away, a young Kara looked over her shoulder and watched the shockwave shatter the crust of her planet as its core exploded. She lost everything. Her world, her family, her culture, so many things. Tastes. Colors. Places. All gone.”
Lena wrapped her arms around herself, averting her gaze.
“I knew I’d lose you eventually. I just wanted to keep you as long as I could.”
Lena reached up and rubbed at her eyelids with her fingers.
“Do you remember when your mom’s goons threw you off the balcony?”
“Yes,” said Lena.
“Do you remember how I held you when I caught you?”
“I do.”
“I wish I hadn’t lied. I wish I’d never put you down.”
Lena said nothing and did not look up. Kara could hear her heart racing, practically feel the tension in her limbs across the room.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry I lied. I’ve always known I could never keep you, I just didn’t want to make it end.”
Lena looked up with tear-wet eyes.
Then she lunged across the room, crossing the gap between them in long strides. Kara Danvers -Kara Zoe-El, Supergirl- was caught almost completely off guard. It wasn’t until Lena was practically charging into her arms, leaping into her, that she remembered to cushion the impact, catch her gently and make sure she didn’t slam herself into an unyielding wall of Kara.
She was so surprised, so shocked into helpless acceptance, that she didn’t offer the slightest residence when Lena reached, grabbed her neck in a firm hold, and pulled her into a kiss. Kara’s stomach did a backflip and she was helpless, undone despite all her strength. For a moment both their eyes opened and they looked at each other in a wordless exchange and Kara began kissing her back in earnest. Lena’s sharp breaths and soft moans instantly kindled a hot need inside her, thrumming like a plucked guitar string, and she effortlessly lifted Lena onto the kitchen counter.
“Holy shit, you’re strong,” Lena breathed.
“Of course I am,” she whispered into Lena’s kiss. “I’m Supergirl.”
And at long last, Kara found something she wanted to taste more than potstickers.

Kara quickly flies down to the balcony of her and Y/n's apartment after they pressed the button on their watch.
Kara: What happened? Are you okay?
Y/n jumps out with a kazoo and flips the lights on.
Y/n: Happy birthday!
Kara looks around with a smile at the decorated apartment before her eyes fall on the Supergirl themed cake.
Suddenly, she flies forward, picking up Y/n before kissing them mid-air.
Kara: Thank you
Y/n: No problem. I figured my super girlfriend should have a super birthday.
Kara just rolled her eyes with a giggle before resuming the kiss.

Lena’s late.
In her defense, the conference call with Japan had been rescheduled twice and they were ready to pull out of the project if she didn’t speak with them directly.
So, Lena’s late to Al’s for the groups weekly hang out. She ended up coming straight from the office. She is definitely overdressed for the bar, clad in black red bottoms, a tight forrest green pencil skirt, a white silk blouse patterned with black triangles, and a matching green waistcoat. Her hair had been set loose from its tight bun two hours into the four hour conference call, leaving her inky black locks wavy.
Arriving at the bar, Lena thanks Frank as he opens the door for her.
“Thank you, Frank. You can have the rest of the night off, I will probably end up going to Kara’s after.”
“Thank you, Ms. Luthor. I will go home, but I’ll keep my cell on. I’d prefer for you to call me if you need a ride.”
Lena rolls her eyes good-naturedly, used to Franks protests of her finding other transportation.
“Good night, Frank.”
“Good night, Ms. Luthor. Have fun.” Frank tips his hat, waiting for his boss to enter the bar before returning to the drivers side and heading off.
**********
Lena enters the familiar building. It’s outside is rather unremarkable at first glance, which it should be for a business trying to keep a low profile.
Since the CEO has become a regular customer at Al’s, the general population has accepted her presence, or at least ignore it in favor of avoiding Kara’s wrath.
Lena navigates her way to the back, looking for any familiar faces on her way to their regular table. She doesn’t find any, but she does hears Kara’s characteristic voice calling her name.
“Lena! Over here,” she calls, waving her hand obnoxiously in the air. Kara is smiling profusely, perfect white teeth on display and cheeks a rosy hue.
“Stop that! You’re making a scene,” Alex scolds, trying and failing to pull Kara’s hand from the air. Kara ignores her sisters protesting, only ceasing her actions when Lena is near enough to grab.
Just as Lena starts to address the table, Kara pulls her in for a tight hug. One arm surrounds Lena’s back while the other pulls Lena in by the shoulders. The greeting is rather enthusiastic, even for the alien equivalent of a golden retriever.
“Lena! Hi! What took you so long?”
Lena is caught mildly off guard, but returns the hug anyway.
“Hi, darling. I got caught up in the office. Are you having fun?” Lena questions before releasing Kara.
“Yes! Nia got me shots of Aldebaran Rum to ‘loosen me up’, and she made Brainy try Xenorian beer. It tastes like smoked cotton candy!” Kara shares happily, entertwining her hand with Lena’s before the brunette can stray too far.
“Shots? How many have you had?”
“Three! Wait—maybe four. And a couple of those beers. They were really sweet!”
Interesting.
“Hey, Kara, why don’t you go get me a whiskey? Take my card and start a tab for the table.” Lena hands over her Platinum American Express card. She figures giving Kara and errand to run will allow her a few minutes to get to the bottom of what’s going on here.
“Okay! I’ll be right back,” Kara exclaims happily, pressing a kiss to Lena cheek before heading to the bar.

✐ Seven Years | Kara Danvers ✎
Tumblr media
Pairing: Kara Danvers x reader
Warnings: slight angst
Summary: Seven years is a long time, but you’ve never given up on Kara.
________________________________________________
Seven Years Ago
A knock on my door makes me shoot up in bed. After crash landing on earth with Mon El I’m still getting used to my super hearing.
I rub my eyes and check my phone for the time, frowning when I see it’s two in the morning. I get out of bed and use my x-ray vision to see who’s at the door.
Much to my surprise I realize it’s Kara and the way she holds herself is very unusual. She’s leaned against the doorframe, her hair a mess and her glasses are askew on the bridge of her nose.
“Hey, what are you doing here this late?” I ask when I open the door.
Kara’s head shoots up and her hazy, glassy eyes meet mine. She sways when she pushes herself off the doorframe and when she slurs a, “Heyyy,” I smell alien liquor on her breath.
I sigh and step aside, letting her in wordlessly. This isn’t the first time she’s shown up drunk at my doorstep and I’m pretty sure tonight it’s for the exact same reason as last time.
“What did he do this time?” I say, exasperated as Kara flops down on my couch face first.
Mon El. . .
I love my twin brother, don’t get me wrong, but he can be such a jackass sometimes.
Since he started going out with Kara, he has changed for the better, but sometimes he slips up and that’s when I get involved because not long after waking up here on Earth, Kara’s took an instant liking to me.
Unlike my brother I didn’t break out of the DEO, I didn’t send out a distress call that got me arrested, and I’ve never believed our people’s claims that the Kryptonians were responsible for all our hardships, which meant Kara and I became friends rather quickly.
And as her friend I’m one of the only people she can talk to about Mon El because I know him better than anyone and I’m more often than not the one who talks some sense into him whenever he messes up.
Now, I could say I don’t mind because that’s what friends are for, but I do because I hate how I was too shy to ask her out and when I mentioned it to him, he swooped in and asked her out himself.
It’s like he doesn’t even care about her and only did it to one-up me once again, the same way he’s been doing all his life.
Kara groans and I take a seat beside her head, taking off her glasses so she doesn’t accidentally break them. “He just doesn’t listen!”
Yeah, I’ve heard that one before.
I sigh and scratch at my eyebrow. “Why? What happened?”
I don’t want to know. It makes me furious, seeing how he treats her, but I want to be a good friend, so I’m offering her a shoulder to cry on.
Kara takes a deep breath before sitting up. She looks like a bug wiggling its legs in the air while doing so, but she manages to do it and sinks back into the cushions, her head landing on my shoulder.
It’s a familiar position and even though I know it’s friendly on her part, I can’t help the butterflies that erupt in my stomach every time she’s this close.
She smells like floral perfume and liquor, the latter being a little overwhelming for my sensitive nose, but I couldn’t care less. All that matteres right now is that she’s comfortable and safe.
God, what would the world do if they saw Supergirl in this state? Wasted over a fight with her boyfriend. . .
I shake my head and force myself not to think like that. Kara isn’t just Supergirl; perfect, charming and selfless. She’s also Kara and she, like everyone else, isn’t perfect.
“We were dealing with some bank robbers earlier,” she starts, still slurring her words but sounding more sober than before, “and I told him— I TOLD him— I had it under control, but he swooped in anyway.”
Yup, that sounds like him.
I have the same powers he has, but I don’t want to be a superhero. I just want to live a normal life, just like I’ve always wanted, even back on Daxam, and because I now have the freedom to choose, I choose to work as a manager and barista at Noonan’s. I like connecting with people and the simplicity of the job, which makes it perfect.
From time to time I do help the DEO of course, but only if I really have to. Otherwise I stick to my new, boring life.
I hum in acknowledgment and wait for Kara to continue.
“They got away with the money,” she says, “and I got a slab of concrete hurled at me. . . And then he has the audacity to accuse me of letting them get away, as if I didn’t have to use my body to shield them and prevent him from accidentally killing them with that piece of concrete!”
“I— Wow.” Is all I can manage to say and when I look to my left I’m startled to find Kara looking up at me with big, puppy dog eyes.
“Why can’t he just listen?” she whispers, her eyes darting between mine. “I mean, you listen. You always listen. Why can’t he?”
I swallow thickly and look at my hands in my lap. Mon El and I might be twins, but that’s where the similarities end.
I feel myself getting hot under Kara’s intense stare, so clear my throat and mumble, “I don’t know, Kara. But I’m sorry he’s acting like this.”
I would never do something like that to you.
I don’t say that because we’re just friends and because I’m not going to be the one who ruins their relationship.
Kara sighs and rests her head back on my shoulder, closing her eyes. She wraps her arms around my arm and within seconds her breathing evens out and I know she’s asleep.
Damn you, Mon El . . .
I shift around until I can get out of her embrace, carefully directing her so she’s lying on the couch. I take off her shoes and drape a thin blanket over her, knowing full well that she won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
Now
I cough and blink my eyes open. Everything is white and blurry, so I rub my eyes with my hands.
A familiar face swims in front of me and when I blink a couple of times, it comes into focus.
“Brainy?” I ask, coughing once more. “Are we back in the 31st century?”
He shakes his head and runs a hand through his hair. “No. There have been some. . . complications.”
My eyebrows shoot up and I step out of the cryo-pod. My clothes are sticking to my body and I gladly accept the stack of dry clothes Brainy holds out. “What kind of complications? Where’s Mon El? Is he still asleep?”
Brainy’s eye twitches in a telltale way and he turns around when I start taking off my shirt. “No, he is awake. He is out looking for a power source for the ship.”
I narrow my eyes at the back of his head and finish changing, running a hand through my damp hair. “Where exactly is he? I know there something you’re not telling me, Brainy.”
He peaks over his shoulder to make sure I’m decent before turning back around. “There is nothing I’m not telling you, Y/N.“
I scoff and brush past him to the ships main computer to see what’s going on. Before I can get my hands on the control panel though, he slips in front of me, blocking my view.
“What are you doing?” he asks.
I raise an eyebrow. “What am I doing? What are you doing? Move, please.”
He shakes his head and grimaces. “I can’t do that.”
Frustration bubbles in the pit of my stomach and I clench my jaw so as to not snap at him. “Why not? What is going on?!”
Brainy opens and closes his mouth like a fish out of water, but nothing comes out.
“Brainy, I swear—“
“Y/N.”
I spin around at the familiar voice and glare at my brother who’s dressed in his red Legion suit.
“Mon El.” I acknowledged him with a nod and send Brainy one last glare before asking, “What’s going on? Where are we? Or should I say when are we?”
“It doesn’t matter. I’ve got what we need and we should be back home in no time,” he replies and when my eyes drop to his hands I realize he’s holding a power cell.
Why is no one telling me what is going on?
My frustration turns into anger when Mon El tries to move past me without elaborating, so I grab his arm and yank him back.
“Either you tell me what’s going on right now, or I’m leaving the ship to find out myself!” I seethe through gritted teeth and it fills me with satisfaction to see him flinch ever so slightly.
He quickly reassumes his unfazed demeanor though and calmly replies, “Look, you weren’t supposed to wake up before I got back. We’re not home yet, which is all that matters, but I have what we need to get back, so don’t worry.”
I’m about to lunge at him when Imra boards the ship, also dressed in her Legion suit.
So they were out together. . .
“Mon El, Kara told me—“
She freezes when her eyes land on me and when it registers what she just said my heart drops. I let go of Mon El’s arm and turn to face her with shaking hands. “What did you just say?”
It’s almost a whisper but because it’s dead silent right now, Imra hears me.
“Y/N. You’re awake,” she says carefully, her eyes darting between me and Mon El.
“Yeah, no shit.” I take big step forward so I’m face to face with her, pointing at her chest. “Now tell me. What were you going to say?“
She swallows thickly, looking like a deer caught in headlights and when I don’t back down, her eyes drop to the floor and she mumbles, “Kara wanted me to tell Mon El that Winn managed to locate another power cell, should we need one that is. . .”
My jaw drops and my heart races in my chest. I spin around and stare at Mon El in disbelief.
“Kara?” I croak. “Kara?!“
Mon El sets down the power cell and hols out his hands to calm me down, but I’m way past the point of being calmed down now. “Y/N, please don’t make a big deal out of this. I—“
“No, you don’t get to talk to me like that!” I cried, feeling tears well up in my eyes. “How dare you not tell me we were back?”
His face is contorted into a conflicted grimace, and he tries to come up with an excuse, but I’m not having it.
“You weren’t going to wake me up, were you? You weren’t ever going to tell me about this, were you?” My voice breaks more and more as I continue speaking until I’m a crying mess.
“Y/N. . .” Imra places a hand on my shoulder, but I shrug her off, taking several steps back to glare at all three of my supposed friends.
“No, just stop,” I choke out, wiping at my tears. “I’ve waited, hoped, seven years for this moment, and you weren’t going to say anything.“
I stare at each of them for an explanation, or a reason as to why they weren’t going to tell me, but no one says anything, so I square my shoulders and use my sleeve to tame the never ending stream of tears.
“Wow. So much for family,” I scoff and make my way to the ship’s door. No one dares to stop me and as soon as I step outside, there’s only one thing left on my mind: Finding Kara.
Seven Years Ago
“Here you go.” I smile and hand Maya, one of our regulars, her coffee over the counter. She reciprocates the smile and thanks me before leaving.
I grab the next ticket and look it over, seeing that I only have to make a cappuccino and a hot chocolate.
I get to work, moving flawlessly around the space next to my coworker Conan, only to be pulled to the side when I go out back to grab a new crate of coffee beans.
“Kara, what the hell?” I shriek when I see the blonde grinning at me. She’s wearing her Supergirl suit and her blonde hair looks windswept.
“Hi!”
I push my glasses up the bridge of my nose and set down the coffee beans. “You can’t just sneak up on someone like that. One of these days I’m going to have a heart attack because of you,” I say, my lips twitching when she scratches her neck in embarrassment.
“You’re right I’m sorry,” she says, her smile not faltering, “even though I don’t think you could even have a heart attack if you tried.”
I roll my eyes playfully and pull her into a hug. She laughs and hugs back, and I’m pretty sure if I were human she would have broken my neck by now.
“Don’t get smart with me,” I warn with a chuckle when we pull back and she just smiles, tucking a stand of hair behind her ear. “So, what brings you by? Not my idiot brother again, I hope.”
Kara grimaces and shifts awkwardly. “Actually that’s exactly why I came by.”
I deflate and force myself to ignore the hurt that always claws at my heart when she talks about her relationship with Mon El. “Oh, alright then. What happened?”
For the first time ever, she seems to pick up on my change in mood pertaining this particular topic and she frowns. However, when I raise an eyebrow expectantly she clears her throat and a tentative smile tugs at the corner of her lips. “Well, I. . . I broke up with him.”
My eyes widen and I can’t stop a confused, “Why?” from slipping past my lips.
It was probably not the reaction she was expecting because she falters and starts nervously tugging at her skirt. “I-I just realized we don’t working together and he is just so different and— I thought you’d be happy for me.”
Seeing her pout I’m quick to grab her hands and make her look at me. “No, no, no. I am happy for you. I just— I thought maybe he broke your heart and you were sad about it and— I’m sorry. I’m glad you’re okay, and I’m glad you’re happy. That’s all that matters.”
Uncertainty flits across her face and her blue eyes search my face when she asks, “Really?”
I nod and squeeze her hands with a soft smile. “Really.”
Kara beams the next second and throws her arms around my neck. “You’re the best friend ever. How about we go out and celebrate tonight? I’ll ask Alex, Lena, and Sam to come, too.”
My heart breaks a little at the word friend, but I don’t let it show when I agree. “Sure. Just text me when and where and I’ll be there.”
“Yay!” Kara giggles and pulls back, her face lit up with happiness.
I smile fondly at the sight, feeling my heart flutter before scolding myself.
Stop, she’s your friend. Nothing else.
I sigh and gesture behind me. “I should get back to work.”
“Of course!” Kara’s eyes widen in realization, but she doesn’t lose her smile.
I return a half-hearted smile and get back to work, hearing the whooshing of her taking off just as the door closes behind me.
Since she broke up with Mon El three months ago, Kara has been around even more than before.
She shows up at Noonan’s daily just to chat which has gotten her in trouble with Snapper more often than not, and she spends most nights on my couch, passed out from her Supergirl duties.
Tonight was game night at her place and everyone except me has already left, leaving behind empty beer bottles and candy wrappers.
It was fun and filled with friendly competition, leaving a lingering warm feeling in the pit of my stomach.
I pick up the empty wine glass Lena drank out of and take it to the kitchen along with some empty beer bottles.
“I told you, you don’t have to do that,” Kara says, joining me in the kitchen with the empty popcorn bowl.
I shrug her off and take the bowl from her, placing it in the dishwasher before wiping my hands on my pants. “And I told you, I don’t mind.”
Kara’s blue eyes soften and she crosses her arms, her hands disappearing in the sleeves of her (my) sweatshirt. She borrowed it one night after showing up at my apartment covered in soot and ash, and she hasn’t returned it since.
The longer she watches me, the more nervous I get and I push my glasses up the bridge of my nose. “So, uh— How’s life?” I ask awkwardly which makes Kara chuckle.
She tilts her head adorably and smiles. “I can’t complain. How about you? How’s Maya?”
I cringe inwardly at the mention of Maya and shake my head with a soft laugh. We went on one date a couple of weeks ago because she asked me out, but I’m too hung up on the blonde in front of me, so I let Maya down gently.
Weirdly enough, Kara hasn’t stopped pestering me about it even though I keep telling her that there’s nothing going on between Maya and I.
“She’s fine I think. I told you I haven’t spoken to her since our date,” I say, drawing shapes on the counter next to me.
Kara raises an eyebrow and her eyes hold something I can’t quite place. “Well, is there someone else then?”
It’s a little weird how interested she is in my love life lately, but I try not to read too much into it.
“No,” I say quietly and Kara uncrosses her arms with a satisfied smile.
“Good. I don’t like sharing my best friend,” she says, placing a hand on my chest.
I swallow thickly and bite the inside of my cheek. “Yup.”
Kara squeezes my shoulder and moves past me, getting comfortable on the couch and looking at me expectantly when I don’t follow.
We usually watch a movie together after everyone’s already gone, but I don’t feel like staying tonight because it just hit me that she’ll never see me as anything other than a friend.
After she broke up with Mon El I thought I might get my chance with her after all, but now I know that that won’t be the case and all I want to do is go home and wallow in self pity.
“Actually, I think I’m going to head home, too,” I mumble, looking down as I drag myself to the door to put on my shoes and jacket.
Kara jumps off the couch and hurries toward me. “What? Why?”
I sigh and glance at her, seeing the confusion and hurt on her face.
“I’m pretty tired and I have an early shift tomorrow morning,” I say, pushing my glasses up the bridge of my nose again.
“O-Okay,” Kara stutters and I only hug her briefly before leaving, ignoring the way her eyes burn into the back of my head as I step into the elevator.
Now
I fly over National City, admiring the twinkling lights in the dark of the night as I make my way to a familiar apartment.
It’s cold and a few snowflakes land and melt on my face as I continue flying, but I ignore them and close my eyes briefly, taking a deep breath of fresh air.
The last time I was here, my lung felt like it was on fire but since being cured of my lead allergy in the 31st century, that is no longer an issue.
I descend slowly when I get close to my destination, feeling nervousness rise up in the pit of my stomach.
What if she doesn’t want to see me? What if she moved on? I mean, it’s been seven years. . .
Seven Years Ago
“What are we going to do?” Kara asks desperately, pacing back and forth.
We’re at the DEO, trying to figure out what to do about my mother’s attempt at invading the planet.
Alex looks to be deep in thought and Winn and Lena are talking in hushed voices a few steps away.
“Well, we could always use the device Lillian—“
Alex gets cut off immediately by Kara starting her down. “Absolutely not. We have to think of something else.”
I frown and glance at Clark who’s silently watching the whole scene unfold next to a defeated looking Mon El.
“What device?” I ask and when Alex and Kara go on bickering I ask again, this time louder and a little more aggressive. “What device?!”
No one says anything for a second but then Winn clears his throat and steps forward. “Lena and Lilian came up with a fail safe device that releases trace amounts of lead into the atmosphere when activated.”
I regret asking and immediately know why Kara doesn’t want to use it. It wouldn’t only force my mother and all the other Daxamites to leave, but also Mon El and me.
“I’m going to fight Rhea, and I’m going to win. There’s no other option. We’re not going to use that thing.” Kara states with a huff and it seems as though a decision has been made, but before anyone can leave I step forward with squared shoulders.
“No, you are not fighting our poor excuse of a mother,” I say calmly. “We are using the device. No one else has to get hurt and if it means Mon El and I have to leave as well, then so be it. Right?”
I look at Mon El and despite not seeing eye to eye on most things, he agrees with me and nods solemnly.
Kara whips around and glares at me. “We can’t just—“
“Yes you can,” I interrupt, turning to Alex before Kara can say anything else. “Get the device ready. Mon El and I will get our affairs in order and return to the DEO as soon as possible. You said Kara’s spaceship is still in working order, right? We’ll use it to get off Earth as soon as the lead is released.”
Alex pulls me in for a hug and lets out a shuddering breath but agrees to the plan and orders Winn and Lena to finish making the distributor.
Clark regards me with reverence and bows slightly, leaving shortly after to help in the ongoing fight against the invasion.
Mon El leaves too, shaking Alex’s hand and hugging Kara briefly, leaving me behind with the two sisters.
“I can’t believe you just did that!” Kara seethes, jabbing me in the chest with her finger. “I can fight Rhea. I can win!”
“No!” I argue, shoving her hand away and taking a step back. “You can’t win. My mother fights dirty and you will lose and I won’t let that happen. Not when there’s something I can do about it.”
Alex watched us with an uncomfortable look on her face before deciding she’s seen enough. She wordlessly slips out of the room and makes sure the door is properly shut behind her.
“Well, I’m not going to let you jet off into space with nowhere to go. You will die out there!” Kara spits through gritted teeth, the vein on her forehead pulsing dangerously.
“You don’t know that! But I know that you will get hurt if you fight my mother!” I shout and it makes her flinch because I’ve never raised my voice at her.
“But I can try! Why won’t you just let me do this?”
“Because I love you!”
I slap my hand over my mouth and watch as Kara’s eyes widen.
Well, I guess it’s out there now. . .
I sigh and take off my glasses, folding them before sliding them into my pocket.
“I love you, Kara, and not in a best friend kind of way. I won’t let you get hurt.”
Kara gapes at me and when she doesn’t say anything I clench my jaw and brush past her. “Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go home and get my affairs in order. There’s not much time left.”
Hurt claws at my throat when I leave the stunned superhero behind and I don’t try to stop the oncoming wave of tears.
I knew she didn’t think of me as more than a friend, but her blatant rejection of my feelings just now hurts more than anything I’ve ever felt before.
There’s not much I have to do when I get home because there isn’t much I can take with me, but I do sign the lease of the apartment over to my coworker Conan. He’s been looking for a new place to stay for a couple of months now and the apartment is payed off until the end of the year.
I also sign a resignation letter for work and put it on the kitchen counter next to my spare set of keys.
I’m just about to take some of the picture frames off the wall when I notice a nearing, familiar heartbeat.
I turn around just in time to see Kara coming in through the window with tears streaming down her face.
“What—“
I get cut off by a pair of lips on my own and my eyes widen before slamming shut.
Kara’s desperately pulling me closer by the back of my neck and I have to place my hands on her hips to stop myself from toppling into her.
She kissed me passionately and frantically, and I wince when I taste her salty tears.
I push at her hips, effectively breaking the kiss and stare at her questioningly. “What are you doing, Kara?”
I can’t let her play with my heart. Not now when I’m about to leave.
Another tear makes its way down her cheek and I fight the urge to wipe it away. She looks utterly hopeless and broken and when she whispers, “I love you, too’” the world stops spinning for a moment.
“It’s why I broke up with Mon El in the first place. You get me like no one else does. You listen to what I say and you’re kind, and modest, and your soul is beautiful. I can’t just let you leave. I-I want to go on dates with you. I want to hold your hand and wake up next to you. I want to make you breakfast in bed and kiss you until you’re breathless. Please don’t leave. Please. . .”
I feel my bottom lip tremble and squeeze my eyes shut. That is what I’ve wanted to hear for so long, and it’s so unfair that it’s just a little too late now.
“Kara, I can’t,” I whisper, opening my eyes again to find her blue eyes already on me.
She whimpers and surges forward, capturing my lips in another heated kiss.
I don’t fight her at all, pulling her closer by her waist until there’s virtually no space left between us.
Her lips are soft and warm, even though they’re moving against mine quite aggressively, and I sigh against her mouth when she buries her fingers in my hair and tugs me even closer.
I could get lost in this kiss and if it weren’t for the sudden burning sensation in my lungs I probably would have.
My grip on her waist involuntarily tightens and I pull back to double over and cough violently. It feels like I’m breathing fire and my throat closes, making me wheeze.
They released the lead.
I look up with tears in my eyes to find Kara watching me in horror.
“No, please. Not now,” she says, desperately cupping my cheeks.
She raises a hand to the comms device in her ear and frantically says something to the person on the other end. I’m assuming it’s Alex, but I can’t focus on what’s being said because the next time I cough, I’m coughing up blood.
It runs down the side of my mouth and I’m suddenly too weak to wipe it away, so Kara does it with alarm written all over her face.
She grabs me around the waist and hoists me over her shoulder, dashing out of the window within the blink of an eye.
The position is a little awkward and uncomfortable but I can’t focus on anything other than trying to get enough air in my lungs.
When we touch down on a field in the middle of nowhere, I see Mon El is already there, waiting and coughing next to Kara’s spaceship.
Kara sets me down gently and cups my cheeks again. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”
I shake my head and press a kiss to the inside of one of her wrists, my hands landing on her hips as I sway dangerously on my feet.
I’m too weak to say anything so I just smile weakly, hoping it’s enough to show her that I’m not mad.
“I love you,” she chokes out, pulling out a necklace from beneath her suit. I realize it’s her mother’s and I try to pull away when she presses it into one of my hands. I can’t take something so valuable from her, but she just nods her head adamantly and pleads, “Take this. . . take this, please. It will keep you safe.”
I give in and cough again, holding my breath when she presses her lips against mine one last time.
When she pulls back and pushes me toward the ship, her face is twisted in agony and I know there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for her not to feel this way.
But there’s nothing I can do, so I get into the ship behind Mon El, clutching her necklace against my chest as the hood materializes above us and we start to ascend.
I mouth I love you, and watch her shrinking figure through the glass. She waves goodbye and I almost break down completely at the sight of her watery smile.
Now
I land on Kara’s balcony, suddenly no longer sure about whether or not I want to do this, but then I see her through the window.
She’s curled up on the couch with a thin blue blanket draped over her. The TV is off and she’s not on her phone either, making me frown and wonder what she’s doing but then I see her wiping her cheek with the back of her hand.
My heart drops at the sight of her looking so dejected and I step forward without thinking and knock on the door.
She freezes for a second before slowly looking up. Her eyes widen when the land on me and she stumbles to her feet, almost tripping over the blanket in her haste to get to the door.
She flings it open, breathing heavily and staring at me with her bloodshot eyes.
“Hey,” I whisper softly and it takes only a couple of seconds for her to throw her arms around my neck and sob into my shoulder.
For the first time in seven years it feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I wrap my arms around her waist and pull her infinitely closer.
The familiar smell of her vanilla shampoo makes my own eyes sting and I choke out a sob.
“You’re here,” she says against my skin, refusing to let go. “I don’t understand. Mon El said you stayed in the future.”
I want to be angry at that revelation, but I just can’t be when I have her in my arms. I press a kiss to her temple and let my lips linger for a moment. “No, I’m here. I’m right here, and I’m not going anywhere ever again.”
Kara’s arms around me tighten and I bend down to pick her up by the back of her legs, carrying her inside.
She wraps her legs around my waist as I close the door behind us, and breathes heavily against my neck.
I move toward the couch and sit down, holding her in my lap as she continues to cling to me.
We stay like that until her sobs die down and she pulls back to look me in the eyes. Her hands cup my cheeks and she traces her thumbs over my cheekbones.
“I love you,” she croaks and I let out a shaky breath, pressing my forehead against hers.
My hands find their way to her hips and I squeeze carefully, whispering, “I love you, too.”
Kara brushes her nose against mine and pecks my lips tentatively. It sends sparks through my body and I respond immediately and move forward for more.
She hums, satisfied, and deepens the kiss by tugging at my bottom lip with her teeth. I gasp in surprise and she uses the opportunity to slip her tongue past my lips and brush it against my own.
It’s a feeling I’ve been craving since she kissed me for the first time and I haven’t stopped thinking about it for the past seven years.
Much too soon for my liking, Kara pulls back. She rests her hands on my chest and traces her index finger along the chain of the necklace she gave me. “Listen, I know it’s been seven years for you, but you have to know that it’s only been seven months for me since you left,” she reveals quietly and I feel my stomach drop when she adds, “So, you know, I get it if you’ve moved on. I mean, Mon El got married, so surely you—“
I cut her off with a soft kiss, letting my lips trail over her cheek and jaw before they land on her neck.
I nip slightly at her sensitive skin, drawing a barely audible moan from her before pulling back completely to meet her eyes.
“I would wait a lifetime if it meant I got to see you again,” I admit, my eyes darting between hers. Then to lighten the mood, I joke, “But I sure hope you haven’t moved on yet because if you have you’re going to be in quite a bit of trouble.”
The smile that lights up her face makes my heart flutter and she quickly shakes her head, denying that she’s seeing anyone.
“I haven’t gotten over you since you left and I honestly don’t know if I ever would have, but that doesn’t matter anymore. You’re here now and I’m not letting you go again.” She whispers that last part and closes the distance between us again to press a kiss to my neck right below my ear.
It makes me shudder and when she smiles against my skin, knowing exactly the effect she has on me, I pinch her side playfully.
She giggles and trails kisses up the side of my face, all the way across my forehead and down my nose until her lips land on mine in a short peck.
“So, what now? What’s going to happen to you and the Legion?” she asks, finding my hand to play with the Legion ring.
I shrug and trace patterns on her lower back with my unoccupied hand. “I will have some words with Mon El and the others about not waking me up, but I can promise you that I’m not going anywhere anytime soon. You’re stuck with me now.”
Kara laughs softly and squeezes my hand, wiggling forward on my lap so she can rest against my chest, her head tucked into the crook of my neck. “Good because I really want to go on dates with you and make you breakfast in bed.”
I smile and kiss the top of her head. “I can’t wait.”

Superman: Supergirl, how's your week been?
Kara (blushing): Can you—can you stop calling me "girl"? I have to change my name. "Supergirl" is starting to feel… weird to be called at my age.
Superman: What about Power Girl? She likes her name.
Kara (snidely): Cleavage window wearing a bathing suit? Yeah, no, I’m good.
Power Girl (insulted): Bitch, I'm a version of you!
Kara: Version, but not me.
Kara rolled her eyes and turned back to Clark.
Kara: I want to go by Super Woman.
Superman (shrugging, not bothered by the demand): I mean, you can if you want. I'm not your boss or anything, but what's with the demand to change it?
Kara (raising her voice): Because Nightwing goes by Nightwing after being Robin for seventeen fucking years! He got a cool name and suit… eventually. You gave him an awesome hero name and I got supergirl.
Superman: Oh yeah, he came up with the name because of me. I love that kid sometimes.
Kara: Cuzz, I need you be on my side right now. Like look at him standing there all ... cocky!
Kara pointed to Nightwing, who stood by himself, waiting for Batman and Robin. He frog-blinked, then looked around, wondering why Kara was glaring at him.
Nightwing (confused): What? What did I do? I'm just standing here!
Kara (mockingly): You know what you did, Ass-man!
Nightwing (cocky): You're just upset that I make the suit work and that your cousin likes me more. I’ll see you for trivia night tonight, but seriously, work on that snippiness.
Nightwing walked off with his arms crossed. Kara growled, clenching her fists angrily. Superman chuckled, clearly amused by the banter.
Superman: I swear, Nightwing is a delight.
Kara (smirking): And a headache.
