#. a/n! — thank you guys sm for 1k followers! it happened a while back, but i haven't had much of anything to post for the past two months or so aside from a few random fics/requests here and there, so i'm a bit late on showing my appreciation. the cold weather here has made me feel pretty low, but i'm doing my best to overcome that as well as some writers block in order to publish at least a few more fics over the course of my winter break from uni! thank you guys again for 1k + i hope you're all doing well! :)
Kaeya doesn’t always head to the taverns at night in order to indulge himself in alcohol. In fact, the bar is more of a social thing for him than it is a drinking thing itself. He goes to sit and chat with Rosaria, —to listen as she gossips and complains about the “uptight” lifestyle she’s forced to portray herself as living during the day. Sometimes, she even lends Kaeya an ear to complain about the more boring aspects of his job: paperwork, small cleanups, and otherwise uneventful happenings that he wouldn’t want to bore anyone else with.
He goes to sit before Diluc, ordering drinks from the young man he was once closer to than anyone else. Even now, a part of Kaeya wonders if that’s still true. After all, it’s no secret that Diluc has largely caged himself away from the rest of the city. The redhead has crawled inside himself, his walls are high, and chances are that Kaeya still knows him better than he knows himself sometimes. Even so, the gap between them is undeniable now, as much as Kaeya likes to sit and joke in the Angel’s Share as Diluc blankly mixes drinks behind the counter. They aren’t the boys they used to be, and sometimes, Kaeya wants to forget about that; so he goes and he sits at the bar. He orders drinks and makes snide comments, and tries to rile Diluc up (to no avail.) It’s like putting a bandage over a surgical wound, —but Diluc is the closest thing Kaeya has to family, and even if it means forcing the bond, he won’t let the elder male slip away completely.
Venti also frequents the taverns, playing drunken tunes and singing less than sober melodies as he throws back dandelion wine with reckless abandon. Sometimes, Kaeya just sits there, watching as the boy who looks far too young to even be drinking in the first place knocks back drink after drink, as if his very life is dependent on how much he can guzzle down in a single night. Where Venti is over-indulgent in every sense of the word; Kaeya is surprisingly tame. At least, for the most part, anyway. . .
Though he’s been known to get plastered from time to time, those nights are few and far between, especially as he’s taken on more responsibilities as the Cavalry Captain and has gotten older, and at least somewhat wiser.
It sounds bad, even when he thinks it only to himself, —but there are times when Kaeya watches Venti and thanks his lucky star he’s not standing in the lowly bard’s shoes. The drunken smile he wears never seems to reach his eyes, and though he grins and dances about, the bitter truth hidden just beneath the surface is that Venti isn’t happy at all. And Kaeya knows that, if only passively.
But Kaeya, —he is happy.
At least, he’s pretty certain that he’s happy, anyway.
He’s got Diluc, although their relationship is marred with guilt and unspoken truths. He’s got a stable job, although it takes quite a bit out of him sometimes and even plays into the bitter parts of his personality from time to time. He doesn’t go hungry unless he does it to himself, forgetting to eat amongst a day’s work, he has a nice, warm bed to sleep in each night, —and Kaeya is loved, valued, and respected by many of Mondstadt’s citizens and visitors alike.
Ah, and lest he forget: he has you.
“Would you like some?” He offers, tilting the bottle of wine grasped tightly in his fist by the neck from side to side.
You can hear the liquid inside slosh about.
“Uh,” you hesitate, but only for a moment, “—sure, why not? It couldn’t hurt.”
Kaeya nods, quickly pouring you a small glass. You don’t often drink with him for a plethora of reasons, but when he drinks at home, he tends to sip slower and savor the flavor more. While his tolerance for alcohol has become quite high over the years, yours pales in comparison. You can hold it down well enough, but your limit is much lower than his own, and the terrain with Kaeya is easier to navigate when you’re not woozy and hazed out.
As the rim of the glass ghosts against your lips, you take a tiny drink before placing it down on the table. Your lover’s sip is longer, taking in more at once, then quickly going in for another.
“I was surprised you said yes,” he admits. “You usually don’t take up my offers to drink together.”
“I say yes sometimes,” you give him a coy smile, “—like tonight.”
He returns your expression with an amused smirk. Kaeya really is a handsome man, and everything about him screams it. From the way his wrist swivels ever so gently with his glass resting along his palm and in between his long, lithe fingers, to the way he charmingly tilts his head a little and raises his eyebrows in soft, barely-there non verbals.
“I’m glad,” he admits, almosting sighing the words in relief.
“Oh?” Falls from your lips curiously before you have the chance to filter it.
He hums in acknowledgement, taking another sip of wine.
“I’ve been feeling a little sentimental today,” Kaeya tells you, “and I was hoping someone could lend me an ear for a bit. Preferably you.”
“You could have just said that from the start,” you reply, reaching across the wooden table to play with his free hand’s fingers absentmindedly. “I’d have listened whether you poured me a drink or not.”
Of course, Kaeya already knew that much. Even so, he’s always found that alcohol helps him to open himself up to others a bit more, and while the health level of that particular aspect is at least somewhat dubious, he’s yet to find a solid replacement. Thus, he has wine, and is now slightly more prepared to have this conversation; whatever it is to become.
“What’s on your mind, Kaeya?”
He’s so glad you asked.
“Well, the truth is that I've been thinking a lot recently,” he says.
When he doesn’t continue, you speak up again to encourage him to go on.
“About?”
“Ah, well. . . Lots of things,” he notes. “You, more often than not.”
Your heart skips a little beat at his admission. Loving Kaeya is no easy task, but it’s worth it. It’s always been worth it, as it were.
“Good things, I’m hoping?” You joke.
It lands just right with your lover, and his one visible eye all but glimmers like Noctilucous Jade in dazzling moonlight as a small smile plays on his kissable lips.
“Great things,” he says playfully. “Even right now, it’s moments like these that make me stop to think that I’m not really sure I deserve any of this.”
That takes you aback, —but only slightly. Although Kaeya is very good at masking his feelings, stuffing all of his insecurities and worries down in lieu of that cocky, confident facade he shows the world, you’ve come to understand the young knight on a deeper level. The surface is one thing, but Kaeya holds sentiments and emotions deep enough to drown in. And sometimes he does just that.
You suppose tonight is one of those nights.
“When I sit in front of you like this, I think about all the nights I’ve left you waiting up for me, and all the times when I asked for a raincheck on a date that never happened at all. I think about all the promises I’ve broken that I’ve probably never apologized for, and all the times I’ve broken your heart just for you to trust me with it again.”
That. . . Was a sharp turn.
You bring the wine glass to your lips again, taking a slow, savoring taste of the bitter liquid inside. Kaeya watches tentatively as you swallow, as your lips form to the rim and then release it so delicately.
“Did you mean to?” You question calmly.
His brows furrowed together in confusion.
“Did I mean to what?” He asks in return.
“Leave me waiting up. Miss a few dates out of the dozens we’ve had by now. Forget to say I’m sorry when you’re trying to make things better another way, —break my heart a few times over the years as if that isn’t almost inevitable with something like this. Did you do it on purpose?”
“No,” Kaeya shakes his head, “of course not.”
“Well, then that’s that,” you shrug. “I won’t tell you to stop sulking about this if it’s something you need to do for the night, —but don’t forget that I’m not here with you because I need you. I’m here because I want to be. And I want that because I love you, and you might not be perfect, but I’m not either, and if you’re keen on taking some advice from me tonight, I think you should stop holding yourself to a standard you wouldn’t even hold me to.”
He pauses, as if taking the time to let your words sink in, before he starts laughing. It comes straight from his chest, the one you rest your head on at night as his arms snake around you to hold you close to him.
“I love you too,” Kaeya confirms through a snicker, “so much.”
“I know,” you reassure him softly.
Somehow, that little conversation was really all it took to ease him down. It’s easy to forget that even people like Kaeya, who are so seemingly confident and self-assured, can feel inadequate at times and beat themselves up for every little mistake they’ve ever made.
If being with him has taught you anything at all, it’s that soulmates aren’t just destined by the stars that hang brightly in the sky above. Soulmates are maintained, like flowers in a garden that have to be tended to and given the proper conditions to not only survive, —but to thrive. Love isn’t a one-way street, or even a two-way street. It’s a network of roads that intersect and branch off. Sometimes there’s dead ends or rocky stretches of land, but the truth remains with each step you take in any direction: Kaeya loves you, and you love him. And if it’s not written in the stars, then you’ll just have to carve it right into the core of Teyvat itself.

Death After Noon (Kaeya x GN!Reader Dark Angst Oneshot)
A/N: Day 3 of the holiday writing streak hehe. Hello my lovely toes, I am back with another angst fic. But this time, I’ve tried a new format out hehe: reverse comfort → angst no comfort </3. Also, if you didn’t see my last post, I AM WORKING ON A QUIRK MARRIAGE MULTIPLE CHAPTER FANFICTION WITH OUR GOLD MINE OF ANGST, SHOUTO TODOROKI. If you want some more information, filter through the richiethetoe’s updates tag :). As always, my Ask Box is open for any requests or just a conversation. I would love to give back to our little community here. Please remember to take care of yourselves, and enjoy. As always, I would love to see your thoughts about the new format I experimented with hehe. CW's: Intimate acts (kissing, making out, SFW touching), Alcoholism. Masterlist Word Count: 1505. Summary: Kaeya Alberich, Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonius, the infamous heart breaker of Mondstadt. And your sole reason for pure and utter joy. Sharing moments he never shared with anyone but you, it makes you wonder how someone could say that they love you so much but then just decide that they don’t want anything to do with you anymore.
——————————————————————————————————
His smile was infectious. A simple chuckle– warm and deep.
It lifted all the burdens in your life.
It was cheesy. Cliché even. But you couldn’t help smiling at every shared moment with him.
The chaste, knowing glances– his eyes always finding yours in a crowded room. The subtle closeness– his fingers brushing past yours.
The tall, and dark, and handsome man became your Prince Charming in your Shakespearan tragedy. His smile could tug the heartstrings of the Holy Lyre, enticing Barbatos himself to descend down to Teyvat, mistaking it for the heavens above; his hair reflected the celestial twilight: a vast ocean for your fingers to tread through as he rest his beautiful face on your lap, his lunar eyes staring into the void of your heart, pushing and pulling until it soared in tides.
Kaeya Alberich was the rich poetry scribed in gold, filling the pages of your empty book in lavish ink– envied by many, obtained by one.
Late nights in the Angel’s Share were spent: skin against skin, his fingers sneaking over yours. Intertwined in a beautiful mess, with heated cheeks, and cool, deep tingles, which ran through your spine.
The two of you were Diluc’s worst nightmare. The older brother had his reservations towards both of your… public approaches to intimacy. But the brother held sympathy in his eyes; his stoic face would always fog up in questions when he saw your longing one.
Diluc was weary of his younger brother.
He sent sharp glares and hushed warnings to both of you. Yet instead of listening to him, Kaeya grabbed your hand and ran into the awaiting darkness. You stumbled as you traversed along the winding allies of Mondstadt, his greedy, impatient hands picking at the buttons on your shirt, guiding your bodies into an empty Inn.
Yet when he was finally in the solitude of your comfort, concealed from the prying eyes, his deep desire evaporated, in its place left deep adoration.
You basked in the rays of filtered silence, his hands soothing your waist and holding you tight against his flushed body. He nestled his head, heavy with thoughts, on your chest, tracing absent shapes on your skin whilst his touch got softer and softer the more you stroked his hair.
“What I wouldn’t do. To stay like this forever”, he spoke, voice so soft and incoherent, you almost mistook him for another.
“Going home was snatched from my fate, my angel. It was never an option”.
He pushed his head against the increasing gravity, his eyes heavy. He glued your gaze to his, and you peered at your reflection wavering in his crashing waves– his irises, cloudy and grey.
“So why does your embrace feel like home to me?” he asked, leaning forward ever so slightly, his breath uneven as he lingered at your lips before lifting his head, his misty blue eyes trapped behind his lashes.
You were just an inch apart from his lips, and you could smell an assault of booze and liquor. Yet this time, you didn’t want to get drunk off of it.
You wanted to savour it.
Your hand seeped warmth through his cold cheek, his face glowing, a gentle radiance.
So fragile, you shivered as you cradled him in your hand, jumping head first into the abyss of his eyes, trying to decipher the harbouring storm that formed underneath.
He seeked permission, his lips drawing closer.
And how could you refuse him, when he was sprawled in your lap, so exposed? So vulnerable?
“I love you so much, Kaeya”, you whispered, only for him to hear.
You were so inviting, so kind.
His confident demeanour shrivelled; he didn’t know how to act when you patiently waited for his lips to close the gap.
So he cautiously pressed a peck to your lips.
His sweet hesitance filled you with travelling butterflies that spread their wings, fluttering colour to your face, and comfort through your core.
And for the first time, Kaeya felt as though his guard was melting. The heavy armour finally peeled away.
Such a simple moment, but for him it was so unfamiliar.
His lips had touched many. But they were sloppy, sticky, and seductive.
But he had never kissed someone.
With love, tenderness, and care.
You were his first.
His first kiss.
Your thumb grazed past his cheek, your feather touches travelling to his jaw, shakily cupping it.
“Is this okay?”
“Yes…”
And this time you closed the gap. Your hands left his face and rubbed his back.
You felt as though he would shatter in your hold, like a shard of glass. Your breathing matched with the slow pace of his, as one of your hands travelled to his scalp, tenderly scratching it. Kaeya leaned into the touch, sighing as he pulled away from your lips, his eyes closed. Your fingers removed his worries, one by one, plucking at every strand and blowing them far, far away from him.
You were the reason his head was lighter.
You deserved so much more.
“You deserve so much better than me…” he babbled, only to be silenced by another kiss.
He pulled away to babble again.
“If you knew the real me, you would never come back”.
You pulled him in again. Your taste was sugar for his bitter words.
“Never let me go”, he pleaded.
And you detached your hands from his back and head to extend your pinky forward.
“Never”, you promised, curling your pinky around his. Such childish antics. Such sinless memories.
“I love you, Y/N”.
-
With a dry throat and a splitting headache, Kaeya woke up to the ray of sunlight that peeked through the blinds. His eyes blinked the fatigue away, his hand shielding them from the piercing radiance.
He examined the room he spent the night in. Unfamiliar as always.
“I’ve gotta’ stop drinking”, he muttered.
Kaeya let out a yawn, before leaning his hand on the side of the bed, fingers reaching for a shirt.
“How high is this thing?” he mumbled, leaning further down until they hit the wooden floor.
Brows knit in frustration, he craned his head on the side, scanning the empty floor. Apart from the legs of a chair, there was nothing.
Eyes squinting, he peered beyond the foot of the bed.
Nothing.
Just the chair standing solitude in front of the uncovered windows.
He couldn’t remember what he wore the day before either.
Fuck.
The sudden movements caught up to the throbbing ache drumming in his head. With a wince, he settled against the brick walls, closing his eyes to alleviate the pressure in his temple.
The absence of his rapid movements cast pure silence in the room. And the early morning was kind enough to hold the burden of his thoughts temporarily; it cast pure silence in his mind. So when a soft rustle tainted the abyssal stillness, he flinched, the hair on his arms erect and alert.
It was coming from beside him. On his left. Underneath a mast of thick, white linen.
With a few strands of hair poking from the top, he shifted his focus onto the constant rise and fall. He let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.
The air was still around him.
Kaeya stared at the sleeping figure; his lips were pressed together, his fingers tense as they clutched his matching duvet.
Thoughts were crossing his mind again. The silence, destroyed.
His hands reached towards the figure, reluctant. hesitant.
Kaeya exhaled, breathing shallow.
Using his thumb and index finger, he grabbed onto a crisp cover with the tips, drawing them back, inch by inch.
His heart beat faster as he slowly unveiled the duvet, Every piece of revealed skin matching together as a puzzle until he reached the chin.
Beside him lay delicate features, so innocent, lounging comfortably beside him. The light of dawn diffused a rosy hue on your cheeks. His glazed eyes began to thaw along with his hands.
His smiling eyes trailed down the curve of your neck that disappeared into a silk collar, hidden.
But then his smile dropped: eyes scrunched and lips parted.
A collar.
And suddenly, he narrowed on the reflection behind you: his black shirt hanging off of his chest, with maybe one or two buttons open. His hair, tame. His skin, clear: empty of any bites or bruises.
His gaze focused on the sliver of your exposed skin.
Clear: empty of any bites or bruises.
The forgotten headache was back, louder than before, seeking his attention as his vision disfigured. His chest tightened, his thoughts flooding the memories from last night.
What did he say to you.
-
A lonely flask sat on the bedside table. An overwhelming absence.
What a fool you truly were.
A fool because you dove head first, even though you knew this would happen.
How could someone say that they love you so much but then just decide that they don’t want anything to do with you anymore.
Kaeya Alberich could. He always did.

Genshin Cuddles HCs: Part the Second (Kaeya, Dainsleif, Zhongli)
Is it any coincidence that I'm tired again while doing cuddles head canons? Probably not. I imagine I get really clingy and cuddly towards the end of the day.
But apparently not as tired lol
CW: A little angst, fluff
A/N: As per the last one, reader is presumed to be short because this 100% self insert
kaeya x gn!reader, Zhognli x gn!reader, Dainsleif x gn!reader
(PS. If you want tagged for certain kinds of content, hit me up in the asks. I'll be happy to put together some taglists)
Kaeya
To be honest, on first starting to date Kaeya, you'd think that he would be a huge tease (I mean, it is Kaeya)
But when it comes to stuff like cuddling and mid winter snuggling, it's usually quite the opposite.
After all, Kaeya is far more serious and earnest, I think, than he allows himself to let on.
Cuddles with Kaeya come in three forms
The first is him big spooning and you little spooning. He absolutely loves being the big spoon. You're so small in his arms and it feels wonderful to know that you trust him like that.
When big spooning he really loves to bury his face in your hair and trace little gentle shapes over your skin
Other times things are reversed. He really never thought that he'd enjoy being the little spoon, but he trusts you without reservation. These are moments where he has no responsibility, instead just lets you take care of him
He frequently falls asleep like this, which really warms the heart. It's moments like these where he'll let you take off his eyepatch and set it to the side
What he doesn't know is that when you do, you usually press a little kiss to the scar
Then there's the third kind
These are almost exclusively late at night, when even the strongest masks start to lower.
Sometimes he'll reach out for you, pulling you into his embrace. He'll hold you like you're fragile, like he's afraid you'll break. it's in these moments where he'll whisper in your ear the most genuine words of love
They would be the warmest moments, but in those moments you hear a truth he never speaks. He's terrified of losing you, that you--like everyone else in his life--will not find him worthy of keeping
All you can do in lose moments is lay your head on his chest, letting him wrap you in his arms, until he's convinced that not only are you still here, but that you're not going to leave him
Dainsleif
Dainsleif, I think, is surprisingly good at cuddling
I was honestly surprised in 3.5 when we saw a very gentle side of him and I think that would apply to his significant other
Seriously, the man has lost everything. He's gonna treat his s/o right, no matter what
For Dain, and for you as well, cuddling is a way to relieve stress
It really doesn't matter the position either, as long as you're sharing warmth on cold nights
You can't count the number of times you've curled up against a rock--though you find that's not the most comfortable spot for really anything--laying your head on his chest, just listening to his heart beat
It's just as often that you find his head in your lap, blond hair splayed out while you rub circles into his scalp. The touch is soothing, grounding him in the moment
Of course, there are times when you curl up under a blanket, limbs tangled together, pressed so close you can't tell where you end and Dain begins. Those are almost desperate in nature, as if warding on the ever encroaching nature of time. It's in these moments that Dain finds himself scared, and intent on branding these memories in his mind
Zhongli
Compared to Dain and Kaeya, cuddles with Zhongli are the fluffiest things on the planet
They usually happen at two times of day, with some exceptions
It's not uncommon to start the day with cuddles in bed. You'll wake up to find a pair of strong arms holding you close and a pair of molten gold eyes watching you sleep.
It never fails to make you blush, because he looks at you like you're the entire world. Which is really rather flattering given the power and status of the man currently giving you this ridiculously soft smile
The other time you two cuddle is at the end of the day. Sometimes it's inside by the fire. Other times it's outside looking at the stars, but you almost always end up wrapped up in each other
So many nights, you're tucked under is arm, or laying your head on his lap while you listen to the stories from the past or random every day advice
It's really soothing. He's got the beautiful deep voice that is almost magnetic.
The exception to the rule is when you're upset. There are times when something happened during the day, or you wake up after a nightmare and all you want is to be held and reassured. And he's good at that too. Grounding you, centering you.
Of course you do the same for him, though, given his personality it is very rare. But there are times when the past catches up to him, where an event he is incapable of forgetting weighs on his mind. He's found that your touch, your embrace, you holding him the same way he loves to hold you, makes it a little better

𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒
synopsis: in which you friendzone them to protect your feelings, ignorant to the way they feel about you
characters: diluc, xiao, and kaveh x gn! reader (separately)
warnings: angst to fluff, reverse hurt/comfort, , slight swearing (i think), mentions of alcohol/ being drunk, spoilers for kaveh’s backstory, kaveh’s part is actually so long i’m so sorry
notes: got the idea for this out of the blue, but really liked it! i had a lot of fun writing these and would honestly be down to make a part two if you guys want it. also kaveh’s part was written before he was officially released this patch, so if anything is inaccurate, i apologize!
Diluc:
When Diluc had asked you to attend an event at his house in honor of the winery, you hadn’t expected it to be so extravagant. Though, perhaps it was because it was the first time you had ever been to his house. Either way, you were in awe at the sheer luxuriousness everything seemed to possess.
“Wow, I seriously cannot believe you’ve never invited me to your house before,” you tease as your eyes glanced around the room. The dining table was huge and lined with various dishes you didn’t even know existed. Not to mention what the entire house looked like in general. You were too scared to touch anything in fear of it breaking.
“I did invite you over — several times, if you can recall. But according to you, you’re just so busy you never have the time,” the red haired male corrected you as he moved slightly behind you to guide you across the room, shoulders bumping together every so often.
“Well if I had known you were living like this maybe I would’ve made the time,” you joked, intentionally bumping your shoulder into his as you threw a smile toward him. His eyes averted themselves from your face and smiled off into the distance, completely ignoring your jests about his wealth.
The two of you had continued to joke around with each other playfully as he walked you around his house to give you a tour of sorts. You had noticed all the people around as you walked, all laughing and enjoying the delicious food and wine Diluc had provided. Even Kaeya was here, you noted to your own surprise, seemingly catching up with some of the maids.
“Oh, I almost forgot, there’s someone I’d like you to meet,” Diluc interrupted your moment to observe. His hand moved to the lower half of your back to guide you in the direction of blonde haired woman in maid attire. Your hand shook hers as Diluc introduced her to you, “This is Adelinde, the head housemaid of the winery.”
You smiled and told her your name, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, I’m Diluc’s best friend.”
“Oh,” she said strangely, as if you had said something wrong. Almost seamlessly, Adelinde covered up her tone as she spoke again, “Ahem, it’s a pleasure to meet you as well. Please do enjoy yourselves tonight and let me know if you need anything.”
Diluc cleared his throat and put his hand around your shoulders as you said your goodbyes. Although, the second she was out of your sights, he dropped it, “So, how about some food?”
You hesitated, sensing something was wrong. His smile looked stiff, like it wasn’t quite reaching his eyes. You could almost sense desperation within his tone, like he didn’t want you to start your usual interrogation when you thought something was wrong, “Oh um, sure.”
He walked you over to the table standing next to your side, but didn’t dare to put a hand on you like usual. It wasn’t something you often paid any attention toward, but now it just felt weird — cold even.
“I’ll go grab you some fresh wine from the cellar, take whatever you’d like,” Diluc said quickly before rushing away. Your brow furrowed as you watched him disappear from your sight.
“What’s with the frown?” a silk voice asked. Your eyes snapped up to meet the blue haired man you knew to be Diluc’s brother, Kaeya.
“Long time no see, Kaeya,” you said, turning your attention back to the food as you served yourself a plate. Kaeya grabbed one too and began filling it as well.
“Oh, you should try these, they’re delicious,” he said as he placed a small dessert on your plate, “but don’t tell Diluc I said that. Can’t have him thinking I like his baking or anything.”
He continued as he grabbed himself another glass of wine off the table next to the food, “Anyway, what’s up with the gloom expression? Don’t tell me Diluc hurt your feelings?”
“No,” you grumble. It had been awhile since you had last seen Kaeya. Not that it was on purpose, because honestly, you never had a problem with him like Diluc did. Time just didn’t seem to allow the two of you to meet aside from a few times a year. “If anything, it was the other way around. Problem is, I don’t know what I did.”
“Well if it’s any consolation, Diluc is very fond of y—“
“Kaeya. Leave them alone,” Diluc interrupts with an annoyed look, shooing Kaeya away. Kaeya leaves without a word. A sly expression was on his face, hoping you would catch on to what he was trying to tell you.
Diluc held the bottle of wine in front of him, silently offering you some. You nodded your head and he poured you a glass before making another excuse to walk off again. The same thing seems to happen a few more times before you reach the end of the night. What had started off as a fun event for the two of you to enjoy, seemed to trickle into nothing but misery for the both of you.
The walk home was quiet. Honestly, you weren’t even sure why he had offered to walk you home if he was just going to stay silent the entire time, “You didn’t have to walk me home if you’re just gonna have to walk all the way back, y’know?”
“It’s fine,” he said curtly, not even making eye contact with you, “I have to go to Angel’s Share anyway. There’s some paperwork I have to pick up.”
“Oh.”
It’s silent again for the next ten minutes of the walk. It isn’t until you’re approaching the bridge to the city that you speak up again, “Diluc?”
“Yeah?”
You sighed and stopped walking, “Listen…did I maybe, I don’t know, say or do something to upset you? Because if I did, I’m really sorry and I just want things to not be awkward between us.”
You could tell he was contemplating not answering you by the frustrated expression on his face. His mouth opened and closed a few times before he finally spoke, still staring somberly off into the distance, “Answer this honestly. What are we? What is this?” His hands gestured between you and him as he spoke. His tone is rushed and there’s bitterness behind it.
“Well, we’re friends…aren’t we?” you carefully asked, almost questioning yourself.
“That’s the problem,” Diluc finally cracked, “I don’t want to be just friends. This entire time I thought that maybe there was something more than that between us…but I suppose I was wrong.”
Your eyes widened and your hands moved to grip tightly around his own before he could walk away from you again, “Why didn’t you say anything? I could’ve told you I felt the same if you had just, I don’t know? Said something about it? How was I supposed to know you had feelings for me?”
“I’m sorry, what? So you do feel the same way?”
You put two and two together and a teasing smiled made it’s way back to your face,“Archons, was this all because I introduced myself as your best friend to Adelinde?”
“What? No, of course not,” Diluc adamantly denied your accusation. He grabbed your hand and began to pull you away while you burst out laughing at the realization, “You’ve had too much to drink.”
“No! I barely drank anything, you liar,” you punched his shoulder, “Admit it, you were upset you got friendzoned and —“
Diluc turned around swiftly, pulled you toward him and placed his lips on yours within a matter of seconds, effectively shutting you up. His fingers interlocked with yours as he pulled away and began to walk you to your house. When you arrived at your doorstep, you turned around and placed one final kiss on his lips.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?” you smiled. Diluc looked away again, failing to resist the smile that tugged at his lips. It was the first time Diluc had been genuinely happy in a long time.
He smiled as he turned away from your house to leave, “Yeah, see you tomorrow.”
Xiao:
Xiao felt his heart racing when he heard your voice calling his name from somewhere in Liyue. Somewhere he couldn’t pinpoint. There was pain in it, and Xiao hated when you said his name in any way that wasn’t positive.
“Xiao! Please,” he heard you call out again, this time more pained than the last. The sound of your cries echoed in his ears and a feeling of his own pain surrounded his heart.
A few seconds longer and you could’ve ended up dead. It’s all Xiao could think about when he finally made it to you, heavily breathing in and out from how scared he was to lose you.
You were covered in bruises and bathed in blood — whether or not it was your own, he wasn’t sure. Your eyes were half shut and your head was leaned back in relief at the sight of him. Several abyss mages of varying elements lie dead on the ground around you. Your polearm lay amongst them, cracked in half and dented all over.
Xiao spotted your vision a few feet away, anemo like his own. He gathered it quickly alongside your polearm before securing it on him so he could pick you up. Once his arms were wrapped carefully around you, he didn’t hesitate to teleport away and back to the inn.
“Here, lay down,” he spoke curtly. You watched through half-lidded eyes as he moved across the room to fetch his medical supplies. This wasn’t the first time he had to treat your injuries, but it wasn’t often that it was this bad.
Xiao worked quickly with your injuries, it was effortless and he was careful not to hurt you. Unbeknownst to you, his heart was racing out of control the entire time. Not only was there left over anxiety from when you had first called for him, but it had carried over and made itself at home as he worked away at your injuries. There was too much red oozing out of your body and the bruises were only growing.
What if he hadn’t gotten there on time? What if he was only a few seconds later? What if he hadn’t heard you call out for him?
“Archons, I am feeling so much better,” you interrupted his poisonous thoughts. Your leg was lifted into the air as you inspected the bandages wrapped around it and all the bloodied rags that sat beside you on the floor.
Xiao’s eyes hardened for a moment while looking over you, an unreadable expression within them, “Please do not get injured like this again.”
Contrary to his eyes, yours softened and you took his hand in yours, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to worry you, I just—“
“It’s fine,” he cut you off when he began to feel weird, not used to people caring about his feelings. Xiao helped you up and out of the bed, his arms wrapped around yours to keep you stable as he walked you to the bathroom counter to finally change out of your bloodied clothes.
Your face was close to his as you spoke, “No, Xiao, really. I can’t thank you enough for all the times you’ve helped me out and even allowed me to help you. You just mean so much to me and I’m so lucky to have you as a friend.”
‘So lucky to have you as a friend’
It echoed in his mind over and over again, more than the voices of his late yaksha friends. For once, another source of pain had finally outmatched his past.
You didn’t see him how he saw you.
Xiao felt his body go cold at the realization. He remained oddly silent as he helped you to the bathroom, not even bothering to give you a response or so much as a simple nod. As soon as you were actually in the bathroom, he backed up immediately and nodded before mumbling something about needing to take care of some other stuff. He had even disappeared before you could utter a goodbye.
Not returning for hours was something you were used to when it came to Xiao. He wasn’t social at all, and that was something you readily accepted when you first offered to become friends with him — even if he declined over and over again.
But hours turned into days and days turned into a week. Xiao hadn’t returned since that night you were injured.
You weren’t sure what happened to him. Maybe he was hurt while out protecting, or maybe he was just in one of those weird social slumps again. But when Xiao finally ran into you one day, it was undeniably awkward between the two of you.
“Xiao?” you urgently called out to him, a mix of worry and shock in your voice, “Hey, are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” he replied bluntly, eyes barely looking at yours. He looked as if he wanted to be anywhere but there.
You squinted your eyes, analyzing him carefully, “That’s it? I haven’t seen you for a week! I get injured and then all of the sudden you just freak out and leave? It doesn’t make any sense. Listen, if something happened, you can tell—“
“Nothing happened. I said I’m fine,” he cut you off before turning his body and grabbing his polearm, ready to teleport off like he always did. You quickly grabbed his arm before he could though, a tight grip that wasn’t painful but made sure he couldn’t escape.
“Let go.”
“No.”
“Ugh, could you stop holding my hand like that.”
“Huh?” Your phase morphed into shock, confused as to why he suddenly cared about you holding his hand. You’d done it in the past, so it wasn’t like it was anything new to him. Besides, you were always careful not to do anything to freak him out.
“If we are just friends, then I do not want you holding my hand like that,” Xiao said before pulling his hand from yours with a harsh sigh.
“Wait, what?” you asked quickly before he could leave, “What does this have to do with us being friends?”
Xiao stared blankly at you for a few seconds, like he was contemplating whether or not he should speak again, until finally, he confessed, “The other day…you thanked me for being such a good friend. That is not what I want.”
A pang hit your chest and a tiny prick rippled behind your eyes at his confession, “You don’t want to be friends anymore?”
“Huh? Why would you think such idiotic things? No— I mean yes, I do want to be your friend. But I do not want to be…just friends,” Xiao explained. His cheeks were beginning to turn red and his eyes averted even more. He was nervous, you finally realized.
“You…you have feelings for me? Xiao, you should’ve told me. Avoiding me for a week straight wasn’t cool, you know?”
Xiao nods and crosses his arms, seemingly unsatisfied with your answer until you added on, “I have feelings for you too. I really like you, Xiao. I didn’t mean to make you feel like you were just a friend, but I also didn’t want to make you uncomfortable or scare you off or something.”
“It’s okay,” he said quietly, barely above a whisper. His hand twitched before it quietly reached for your own and took it in his. His grip was firm, like he was scared you would leave.
“Xiao?” You grabbed his attention when you noticed his eyes falter, like he still couldn’t quite grasp the reality of your feelings.
“Yes?”
“I really like you, okay? I don’t want you to ever think otherwise.”
Kaveh:
“Kaveh! Look at this!” your smile lit up as you dragged Kaveh toward a merchant selling various little trinkets. Kaveh willingly followed, idiotically smiling behind you at your childlike excitement. His hand tightly gripped around yours to ensure you wouldn’t go too far or get separated from him.
The two of you had decided to take a greatly needed break after working for hours upon hours each day for the past two weeks on a shiny new blueprint for a brand new Akademiya research center in the desert. The complications of what the research required versus the heat in the desert and its effect on the lab materials was making it difficult to come up with a practical, yet complex enough lab for the researchers. The headache it had brought upon the two of you was no joke, and you had finally realized that a break was the only thing that would get you through the block you were collectively stuck in.
“Hello, dears,” the old woman spoke gently, a bright smile on her face that perfectly creased her eyes. She had an immensely warm aura to her and you couldn’t help but match her smile. Kaveh glanced to you, a small smile gracing his own face as his cheeks turned slightly pink. He couldn’t help it after he saw how good you looked today.
“So,” you started, eyes bouncing around to each and every item she had to sell, “How long has your shop been open? Everything here looks so beautiful!”
“Oh, why thank you, dear! It’s been open for nearly two decades now. It is indeed strange to see how much time has passed,” she answered happily, reminiscing on the early days of her shop. She had told you how she opened it with her husband, but how he had long since passed, to which Kaveh and you had offered your respects.
Your eyes danced over all the trinkets again, but you couldn’t help but notice the little figurines that looked like creatures from your childhood. You couldn’t quite place where you knew them from, but you picked it up regardless and fidgeted with it before turning to Kaveh, “I think I’m gonna get this one, what do you think?”
“It’s cute,” he said with a gentle smile, admiring the little blue plant like figure in your hand, “I think I’ll get one in red.”
You finished paying the kind woman for your purchases and thanked her dearly once the two of you were done. The conversation had continued a little while afterward, with both you and Kaveh intrigued in the stories she kindly shared with you.
The sun was beginning to near its setting time, you noticed. The blues were fading to oranges and reds and the air was beginning to get a little colder, signaling the night was on its way.
“Thank you again,” you told her, “These are really nice, I’ll be sure to place them in my workroom so I can see it everyday!”
“Oh, that’s awfully kind of you, dear. I must say, I admire the way you treat everyone as your friend. It’s truly a rare quality to find in someone these days,” she gushed.
“Thank you! I really just try to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome,” you explained before you said your goodbyes. The woman said her goodbyes too, telling the two of you to visit her again sometime soon and tell her all about the architectural work you guys do.
Kaveh nearly stopped in his tracks as he processed the conversation the two of you just had. You hadn’t even caught the hesitation in his voice or the sudden change in his mood.
You treat everyone like that?
“Ugh, she was so nice, wasn’t she?” you rambled, but Kaveh was only half listening. Not that you had noticed that either.
“Oh, uh, yeah!” he blurted out, not entirely sure that he had even heard you correctly. His eyes followed the pattern of his shoes pressing against the floor as he swung the bag next to him back and forth, lost in thought. You didn’t question him once.
It was quiet for the rest of the walk aside from you announcing that you were tired and were going to check in for the night. Kaveh had agreed and walked you home all while hoping that you wouldn’t notice his sudden quietness.
If Kaveh was being honest, his brain felt like it was spiraling out of control.
One moment he’s walking around with you all day, enjoying his time off. And the next, he can’t stop replaying a silly conversation with an old woman who he barely knew.
The worst part is, he couldn’t help but take it personally. Being treated like he was on a pedestal and then having it ripped away is something Kaveh is used to, but he never thought he would have to go through it with you.
You made him feel special, like one of a kind. The way your eyes always lit up so brightly when you greeted him at work everyday. The way you hugged him when you were feeling down and no one else. The way you always treated him to food and drinks without ever asking him to pay you back because you knew he was struggling — and not once did you ever make him feel bad about it. The way you would jump to hold his hand when you got excited about something or when you were scared when lightning would strike.
You never did any of those things with anyone else. But all this time, you made everyone feel like they were your friend, like they were special in their own way. For all he knew, you did little things like that with everyone and made them feel like one of a kind too. Maybe Kaveh was nothing, he thought, maybe he was really just like everyone else. Just your friend and nothing more.
Kaveh bowed his head to his chest when he arrived home, his hand leaned forward to support himself as he felt the tears coming on. Being emotional or overdramatic was something Alhaitham had always criticized him for, but you? You always taught him to embrace it and let what he was feeling out. You had helped him with so much of his life and moving on toward bigger and better things, but now he couldn’t help but feel bitterness in his heart.
The keys in the blonde’s hand returned back to his pocket almost immediately after retrieving them. His palm dragged down the gray wall of Alhaitham’s house and back to his side. Kaveh couldn’t bear to enter his own home, not at this hour with such painful thoughts in his mind. Alhaitham would probably nag him anyway, and he really didn’t feel like dealing with his cruel words tonight — and Kaveh never liked when they were about you. You didn’t deserve that, even if it was just a joke.
And so he returned to the tavern once more in his life. Drinking away his problems was unhealthy, you had told him, but right now he didn’t care. You weren’t here and there was no one around to stop him from throwing back drink after drink. It had been a long time since Kaveh had been truly drunk, but today was enough to turn him away from sobriety.
“Kaveh. Get up.” A voice echoed painfully in his ears.
“[Name]?” he mumbled out incoherently as he blindly reached toward the figure in front of him. Their hand swatted his away before swooping under to pick him up. Kaveh mumbled your name a few more times, desperately trying to figure out what was happening.
“Why are you at the Tavern, Kaveh? Have you not learned your lesson about drinking?”
Oh. That’s who it was. Kaveh should have known by the sharpness in the voice or the annoying familiarity it held.
“Alhaitham? Get off of me,” he tried pushing the Scribe away. Alhaitham didn’t budge as he slammed a few bills on the table and carried Kaveh out of the Tavern. Lambad waved him off, but thanked him for taking care of the architect.
Your name continued to slur from his mouth, blending together into what almost sounded like gibberish. Not to mention the near beating Alhaitham had endured as he carried Kaveh around Sumeru.
You, on the other hand, hadn’t expected a knock at your door at nearly two in the morning.
“Alhaitham? What’s going on? Why do you have Kaveh?” you quickly questioned. Alhaitham shoved Kaveh toward you, a pained groan falling from his lips as he fell into you. The Scribe explained the situation to you. How he had never seen Kaveh come home that night, but later found him at Lambad’s Tavern drinking himself to death as he cried to the sound of your name.
You could only muster a silent nod out, confused but entirely willing to take care of Kaveh. You cared a lot for him after all. Alhaitham had shown himself out afterward, telling you to drop him back off tomorrow so he won’t bother you too much with all his whining. You breathed out a strained laugh and then shut the door before you turned your attention back to Kaveh and helped him to your couch.
“Kaveh?” you asked gently as you tucked a blanket over his shivering body. Teary red eyes stared back at you blankly, refusing to answer. You sighed and then nodded, accepting he may not have been willing to tell you anything. And although you had never outright admitted it, drunk Kaveh was not someone you enjoyed dealing with, “If you don’t tell me what’s wrong, I can’t help you.”
“It doesn’t matter. You can’t help me anyway,” he scoffed and turned away like a child who just got told they couldn’t have their favorite toy. You wanted to say your patience was wearing thin, but honestly, you could never truly be mad at Kaveh.
“Kaveh.”
It was silent for a moment. You could only see about half of Kaveh’s face as he buried the other half in the side of the couch with his hair covering parts of his eyes. The quiver of his lip, however, was not amiss to you. Neither was the quiet sniffle or the tears that gently slid down his face.
“It’s nothing,” he whispered to you, voice cracking as a hand quickly moved to his mouth to muffle his cries. He hoped you didn’t hear, but he knew you weren’t stupid.
“It’s not nothing. You’re hurt, Kaveh,” you rubbed his back. Kaveh leaned into your touch and brought his head up to meet your eyes.
Teary eyes stared into yours and he sighed before speaking, giving into you like he wished he always could have, “I thought I was more than just a friend to you. But I was stupid and I realized today that I’m not any more special than anyone else. You treat me just like you treat everyone else because you’re so kind and caring and— Archons, I am so stupid to believe that we were ever more than that.”
Kaveh paused before he spoke again, voice shakier than before, “I really don’t want you to leave, but I get it if you want to or if you don’t want to be friends anymo—”
Your lips were on his before he could finish his sentence. When you pulled back, you noticed his eyes widened like he had sobered up all at once, “You are special to me, Kaveh. I’m so sorry if I made you feel like you weren’t.”
Kaveh smiled as a few more tears spilled out of his eyes, “You really mean it?”
“With my whole heart.”

Hello! Saw your ask was open and thought I’d share a request idea. I was thinking about a reverse hurt/comfort for the Genshin men where they overhear a negative comment about themselves and worry their partner might agree with it. Maybe the comment comes from a friend or family member of the partner so it holds more weight than a random person’s comment.
My favorites are Kaeya, Zhongli, and Diluc but if you want to drop or substitute any characters that’s fine. Ideas for comments could be like they’re intimidating, too busy, secretive, even just generally kind of weird. It doesn’t have be deep angst, just a little doubt for their partner to reassure them about.
Hope this finds you well!
Kaeya is fully aware of the rumours that surround him. He’s aware that some people think he’s some playboy extraordinaire, that some people think he’s got too many secrets, and some people still haven’t gotten over their initial suspicion ion of him from when he first got to Mondstat. Typically, none of it would bother him but it also might have to do with the fact that most people don’t make it a habit to tell him they feel some sort of way in person or around him.
When the two of you are on a date, he happens to overhear some other people sitting just close enough that you can hear them as well, but too far away for them to notice that Kaeya’s picked up on their conversation. He tries not to show that he can hear them but the look on your face tells him you know what’s happening and you’re hearing it as well. He just laughs it off and casually mentions that the two of you should head out now - it’s getting late after all and he’d hate for the two of you to be caught out while it’s dark.
You can tell immediately what’s happening and initially decide to let Kaeya get away with it. You don’t want to be overly aggressive if it’s something that’s bothering him too much but you also don’t want him to hide it from you just because he’s afraid of how you’ll react.
Quickly, you gather that he’s feeling a little insecure about himself by his desperate attempts to try and tell you something without actually telling you anything. He’s talking himself into circles, you trying to follow the threads of conversation as much as you could while piecing together what it is that he’s insecure about. You know he really values touch and since you can’t get him to stop talking you decide to lead him back to bed,
Without thinking, he curls himself into you as you pull him onto your sheets. He sighs happily at the feeling of your fingers combing through his hair. You quietly talk to him now, telling him that you love him no matter what and even if he doesn’t want to tell you everything about himself you’ll always trust him. Kaeya doesn’t realize how badly he needs to hear that until that very moment, nodding as he presses kisses against your throat as a silent thank you for your reassurance.
Zhongli typically isn’t bothered by very much. He’s heard everything he’s needed to and he’s typically very secure in his own person. He’s never minded what people say about him but he’s also never really had anybody say anything particularly demeaning about him.
That’s why when he hears an off putting comment at work one day he’s not sure what to do about it. He doesn’t let it bother him too much but he does find himself thinking about it more than he expected to. You can tell he’s chewing on something when he comes home, sitting down at your table and deciding to directly ask you if you think he’s strange.
Your confusion settles nerves he didn’t even know he had and he chuckles a little, telling you that he heard someone say that to him today and he wasn’t sure what to make of it. He tells you exactly what it was that they told him, you reassuring him that you don’t feel that way about him. He smiles at your kind words and thanks you for telling him so, feeling better already just with that brief conversation between the two of you.
Diluc typically has a very positive relationship with most people. He’s young, handsome, rich, and charming as needed. Sure, he can come off as standoffish if people aren’t talking to him for business purposes but he knows how to talk sweetly to such an extent that it’d challenge Kaeya’s silver tongue if he decided to add casual flirting into the mix.
However, that also means some people feel as though he’s not to be trusted because of this. He knows that people might not like him because of all the dealings he has and how he can manipulate things to benefit him if needed but he also doesn’t care. Diluc would never do anything immoral, but he does have his own ways of doing things that may not be seen as conventional.
It takes a while for it to weigh on him but after one particularly rough day he comes home and simply lays his head in your lap. He’s not always good at verbalizing the issues he’s going through but you can tell when something’s bugging him because he just seeks out your presence silently.
You let him, not sure what else he wants but upon your request he mutters something about how some people have just been saying nasty things about him recently and he guesses it’s worse than he thought it initially was. You hum in understanding, cupping his face and telling him all of the things that you love about him. He takes it all in slowly, not wanting to interrupt you and feeling his chest warm at the affection you have for him.
It doesn’t take him long to feel his uncertainty dissipate, quietly thanking you for picking up on what he needed so well. You just bend down to press a kiss against his messy curls, cupping his face and telling him that he doesn’t have to thank you for you just simply loving him. You’d always be here for him, no matter what he thinks or what people say.

cold touches [gn/m.reader]
i come not in peace >:( i’m here to hurt some men and make people cry,,, so i present to you a bit of role reversal. this is my way of avenging the poor readers in those angst fics lmao. i got u, u beautiful being. also excuse the sudden tiny letters, i’m still experimenting with the formatting in tumblr mobile :”))
this is just angst. hurt no comfort, but do let me know if you want that comfort or if you want to hurt more men nyehehehe. the sacrificial lambs for this fic are zhongli, childe, diluc, kaeya, and ayato :D
Ayato
Were you always this cold?
Ayato wonders often if he’s trapped you in a marriage. But it didn’t seem so on the very day you promised yourself to him as he did with you. There was a deafening silence in the wake of your emptiness, and a terrifying coldness that suddenly jumped out at him with little to no warnings.
He sat on the head of the table and watched his sister and Thoma converse so happily, and he wondered when did you start missing out on meals just like that. He seems to recall a time when you too would join in on the lively chatter that reverberated through the Kamisato estate. You and Ayaka often brought him or Thoma into the spotlight of light humiliation as you teased relentlessly.
And then suddenly, you were gone.
“Thoma,” he found himself speaking, unable to hide the light tremble from the corner of his lips. There was a familiar pit of disappointment that nestled within him. “Where could [Name] be? They’re not one to miss dinners, no?”
The chatter ceased and Ayaka looked at him with a smile and Thoma with an equally carefree look — and something twisted at him. How could they look like that knowing that you were incomplete, and on the very day that he was finally free momentarily of responsibilities too.
“Ah— well, it’s hard to say. They rarely show up to dinners recently, my lord. So I have been keeping my lady company more during dinners.” Thoma laughed a little, though there was an edge to it.
Ayaka’s smile was still there, but her eyes glimmered with loneliness, something Ayato felt significantly sorry for. You were her first friend above all and Thoma, but she was understanding and probably did not question your absence either.
“[Name] told me they had business to handle. They have been quite sporadic with their presence, brother.”
His sister and his trusted keeper understood, so why couldn’t he? There was something that gnawed on his heart at the thought of you constantly out and about — and how hypocritical of him; as if he wasn’t doing the same.
“Ah.”
The chatter resumed with little regard for your absence.
The late night fell and Ayato was deeply unsettled. Your spot in bed was so, so cold. He tossed and turned and imminently ended up facing your side, where he always assumed you would be. At least up until recently. He wasn’t aware of this development in your schedule at all, why wasn’t he made aware of it in the first place anyway?
His stomach sank at the thought of you disregarding his opinion. He never did that to you, did he? Ayato always sought you out when he dealt with important matters. Was he not as important as he thought to you? For you to just… disappear apparently — was he at fault?
And his worries quelled when the door slid open. He quickly sat up, eyes dilating at the sight of you arriving quietly. Only that when you looked up, you met his gaze and his heart dropped when you flinched. What was that? You never do that around him.
He stilled his thoughts with an iron grip as he flashed you a loving smile, undeterred by your odd behavior, “Hey there, my moon… you’ve been quite busy, I heard.”
“Ah. Yeah,” you shifted your footing, something you did when you were inherently uncomfortable in a situation. “Sorry. I thought you’re asleep already.”
“No… I was waiting for you,” he braved through the tiny cracks that he could feel his guarded heart make and coaxed you still, shoving away the million questions of why on earth could you be so… uneasy in his presence, your spouse. “All day, actually.” He clarified with a small smile.
You nodded in acknowledgment before disappearing into the closet attached to your bedroom.
Ayato could only wait in silence. A silence so piercing. What happened? Did you have a bad day? Were you in a difficult position? Surely he of all people can help. He would do anything to keep your wits intact and to keep you safe, anything to keep your happiness in this marriage.
And his heart melted at the sight of you when you emerged from your closet in your patterned yukata.
“Are you feeling alright?” He asked as you sat on your side of the bed. “You seem under the weather.” Ayato had to choose his words carefully, the least he wanted to do is tick you off even more than you probably are right now.
“Mhm,” you hum out your response absentmindedly. “I’m fine. Good night.”
Ayato could no longer hold back the heartbroken frown that tugged on his lips as you slid into the covers. And he was hit by yet another wave of silence, yet this time, he could hear his heart shattering through the dim room. He watched over your figure that slept facing away from him.
“Good night, I love you.” He tried again.
Whether or not you were awake or asleep, he never knew from your lack of response.
And Ayato didn’t know what could be more heartbreaking — was that whether you went to sleep without your endearing proclamations of love to him or that he woke up with another cold empty spot beside him.
𐂂
Diluc
Were your eyes always this hollow?
Amidst all the work that Diluc has done for Mondstadt, even he couldnt deny the following neglect you have probably succumbed to. And that, he truly felt sorry for. And he did all that he could to catch everything within his hands, juggling Mondstadt’s wine industry with his business and acting as the great vigilante of his city.
He has fought countless monsters and has been wounded from his countless exploits — something he couldn’t exactly avoid. And back then, you would welcome him with worry and fear in your eyes that you patched him up, through your blurry eyes from all the tears threatening to escape.
Since then, Diluc has learned to lessen his casualties in fear of pushing you over to the brink of insanity from all the times he has to come home late at night, possibly injured. He cared so much for you that he started to care for himself even more. It’s the least he could do for his fianc after all.
And finally the day Diluc craved arrived, a good few days that he will spend in your arms and nothing more. Sure, he couldn’t retire his duties as Mondstadt’s night hero, but according to the outrider that he so often saw within the streets, there was less hilichurl activity and that knights can actually afford to rest quite a bit.
That was enough for him.
And when he crawled into the bed with you that night, he thought about finally tying the knot with you. You were engaged for far too long, Diluc figured you and him have waited quite enough until finally exchanging your vows and spend your eternities together recognized as each other’s spouses.
Diluc hoped to face the next morning lazing around in bed with you that time, only hoping then that Adelinde would have enough sense to just leave you two be than to insist on getting the day started regardless of the little vacation.
But he woke up without you.
The sun was already high up, judging from the view outside the window of your shared room. Diluc thought it adorable — that you were thoughtful enough not to wake him up. You were always so understanding and he couldn’t be happier to be with you, and now that he has time, he intended to show it to you with all his might.
By planning that wedding you and him have been waiting for.
He was in a particularly good mood as he got ready for the day, opting to head down and hopefully catch you doing something. Diluc couldn’t wait to see the look on your face once he breaks the news to you, and sure couldn’t wait to be with you, attached to your hip for the remainder of what he calls his self-appointed holidays.
As he descended the stairs, he visibly brightened at the sight of you already eating beside the head of the table, with Adelinde serving you more of that sunsettia juice that you so loved.
He was courteously greeted by the staff present and he did so too, opting to ignore that you weren’t one of the ones that greeted him and initiated instead.
“Good morning, dear,” he greets with a smile as he pulled back his chair to take a seat.
“Morning,” ah, your greeting was strangely bland, but nothing Diluc should worry about. There were days you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, and he could just as easily soothe it with his own presence. And with the news he’s about to break, surely nothing could make you happier.
“I’m surprised to wake up in my own company earlier. Did I keep you waiting?”
You shrugged a shoulder, completely attuned to the paper you were reading.
Diluc prodded one more time, “Something wrong, dear? You seem off today.”
“Am I?” You absentmindedly responded and yet he couldn’t hold back the wince from your cold tone. “I’m feeling perfectly fine.” You muttered, but it was loud enough for him to hear.
In his time spent knowing you, he already knew the tells of when you were untruthful or when you were serious. This was the former, as it seems. And he opted to dispel your troubles away with his own news. Yes, that’s right. Maybe you were only hinting that you’ve been waiting for far too long. And Diluc has heard the anxiety from men and women who were betrothed, afraid that their loved ones would suddenly disappear in the middle of their betrothal.
But to you, he could never do that.
“I have quite a lot of free time today and for the following days,” Diluc smiled, and though you couldn’t see him behind the papers you were reading, he was basically radiating off the warmth of joy. “And I thought… it’s a good time for us to plan our wedding, yes?”
“Huh?”
His heart skipped a couple of beats at your lackluster response. And while he welcomed the sensation usually, this was a heartbeat that did not lean into happiness.
And finally was he met with your gaze that were often so soft—
Why… are you looking at him like that? With those eyes that stared so hollowly, void of any happiness or excitement, it contained nothing but pure and utter confusion.
Diluc felt the dread crawl into his system but stomached it, “Did I say something wrong?”
The unnerving stare you held was something he could never forget as you turned back to your paper.
“No. You’re fine,” you waved him off. “Sure, we can do that.” You agreed.
You agreed like it was not a big deal, like he only asked you do something remotely casual with him. Like he didn’t ask you to plan the most important part of your lives with him.
Diluc felt like he swallowed needles when his gaze fell into your hand.
Clean and ringless.

Kaeya
Is it just him, or is the distance growing bigger?
You were always an exuberant fellow and perhaps that was why Kaeya felt compelled to sweep you off your feet, not knowing that it was you who would do such a thing in the end.
Since the day he promised his forever with you and you with him, Kaeya has never felt more complete. In his cold, cold world filled with betrayal and pain, you were the fiery oasis that melted what gnawed within him like persistent termite. Your compassionate touches were always something he looked forward to, leaving him gasping for air and writhing underneath the skin of your touch.
He took care of the flame that you handed to him so generously, and he didn’t care whether or not it was slowly melting the icy guard he managed to put up. Let it melt for all he cares, from it, he can flood you already with so much love that you deserve for even putting up with him on his hardest days.
When you refused to abandon him whenever Diluc would kick him out of the tavern, he could feel the warm fuzzy feeling in him chipping away at the glaciers of walls he worked so hard to build up. When you came by all the time to ensure he was getting his sustenance, the heat of your compassion was slowly melting the jagged spikes of ice he had in his heart to ensure his protection.
And to him you were his world. You were Kaeya’s one and only soulmate.
The world that you and him lived in could burn to the ground for all he cared, as long as he was by your side for all of eternity.
You gave him so much of your warmth that he slowly started to break free from that metaphorical ice prison he kept himself inside in for so long. You held the key to it and he could not be more grateful to be saved by you and only you.
So then why is it that when he started to cave into your warmth, you decided to huddle into the blistering cold?
Why can he see the familiar icy walls slowly sprout around your heart?
Why was the flame you gave him, the one that he carried and took care of for such a long time slowly dying out?
Why were you refusing every single chance that he tried to give back to you, to also melt your slowly freezing heart?
All of a sudden, your touches were hauntingly cold. They were so light that they could’ve been nonexistent in the first place and Kaeya dreaded that feeling. He grabbed onto you with all his might but why are you suddenly miles away from him? Why were you being imprisoned in that same icy cell that he locked himself into?
Last he checked, you were the one that taught him that he could be free with you. So why won’t you do the same with him?
But Kaeya was not him if he wasn’t a man of determination. He took on his missions with gusto and absolute persistence and he was not going to back out soon.
And as he cradled your weakened flame in his heart, he tried, and tried, and tried.
“Been awhile since we’ve been on a date, huh?” He refused the temptation to crack. His grin was intact much like always, trying to invite you back in his arms for once.
“Really? I never knew,” your words were so unfocused, so vague, and so inattentive… so unlike you— the you that hung onto every word that he said (like he did to you), the you that spoke so accurately, little to no details left behind (something that he would brag about you). “Sorry, I guess.”
It hurts to see you apologize so unapologetically. But perhaps you were going through a rough patch. You had been there for him when he went through his, what’s stopping him from doing the same to you?
“Do you want to then?” Kaeya offered, but even then he could feel the way his smile trembled, unstable and something he’d never be caught dead in. “It would be nice.”
He ignored the light scoff that came from you and ignored the pang in his heart when you rejected his offer.
“Sorry, I’ve got official business. I’m departing for Natlan soon.”
Sorry. His brain echoed. Was that your sixteenth apology for the day? Kaeya wonders how much more he can take. But even if he couldn’t he would break, and break, and break just for you. He’ll make as many considerations as you did for him.
“Oh. How long are you going to be away for?”
“It won’t be for awhile. It’s diplomatic relations after all, so I can’t give you the exact estimate of the duration… sorry.” There it is again, that cursed word that you chanted like a mantra, dooming him into an endless spiral of your empty apologies.
Kaeya nodded, suddenly feeling meek as he looked down on his book.
Sure, you’d put up with him in the early stages of your relationship, and sure he would apologize over and over again until the words ‘sorry, my bad’ didn’t even feel like actual words anymore. But surely he wasn’t this bad, right?
Surely… he wasn’t this distant, right?
But as his eye watched you walk away, grabbing your coat from the rack and leave, Kaeya counts the days.
And for you, he will wait, and wait, and wait.
𐂂
Tartaglia
Since when were you so busy?
From your shared home, he watched as you wrote something relatively unimportant to some paper. Surely whatever it is, it doesn’t warrant you to deprive him of your attention. Sure, he has been busy for a couple of weeks, but he was here now and suddenly you were the one who didn’t have time for him?
That sounds wildly self-centered, but Childe could care less at this point. He still made effort to sprinkle in little bits of love on the rare occasions that you would see each other inside this house.
And he gave it all, gave all that he can to you and only you. And Childe watched with delight as you relished in every affection he had given you.
Time and time again.
Until suddenly your reactions that warranted him the sweet joy of being with you were no longer evident and felt by him. Something pierced through his heart the very first time he took notice of when you lamely pressed your cheek against something that wasn’t even his lips and called it a goodbye kiss.
Though he supposed he was delusional enough to say it was cute, that you were probably just tired that you couldn’t muster the energy to be smothered in his undying affection for you. And he easily forgave that excuse.
But then every gesture dwindled in love. You gave hugs that barely had any heart to it, kissed him so emptily that it only left him feeling just as hollow. Childe would frown and hope you take notice, but you were back in your own world, brushing him off like he was a bother to you.
So he ought to try this time. He made sure everything was set in motion for you.
Back then, you always mused about having a lovely picnic by the Luhua pool and he figured now’s the perfect time to grant that wish of yours. It may be a couple of months too late, but he needed to be with you so desperately and he figured doing a nice picnic outing would be the perfect activity for the both of you.
Childe, ever the efficient man he is, had cooked up every single thing, from your favorite dishes, to your desserts, and had planned the perfect spot to be in. He even scoped it out prior to the official date that you and him were going to. He made sure that hilichurls, treasure hoarders, and abyss mages would steer clear of that one lovely spot.
All of it, he would do just for you.
So then why?
Why did you look at him with such mirthless eyes, contrasting his that brimmed with nothing but excitement for the day planned ahead.
“Heeey my little cabbage!” His tone held nothing but merriment as he drawled his greetings out. His eccentric greetings were always one to get a blissful and heavenly laugh out of you. He ignored the slight stinging pain that stabbed through his chest when you barely even acknowledged him, still sucked into your… work.
He heard no responses from you but a sole grunt that had the unvoiced question. Childe persisted with a smile, “I’ve got a surprise for you! Why don’t you lay off your work for a moment, hm? I’m sure you can spare some time for your beloved boyfriend, yes?”
His heart hammered against his ribcage as the suspenseful silence filled the space between you and him. It felt like awaiting orders from Pierro, but even so, it wasn’t this dreadful in terms of waiting.
“No thank you.”
Childe felt numb when he his anticipations of your acceptance got curbed with your collected rejection.
Did you even consider in those few seconds of silence? Did you think your decisions through? Heck, were you even interested in his surprise? Or did you ever listen?
“Aha! That was a trick question! The only right answer to that was a ‘yes’, I’m afraid!” Childe regained his footing in the conversation, hoping to reel you back into his arms.
And finally, you granted him mercy when you looked at him, “I can’t exactly put this behind, Ajax. Sorry.” You said, and yet Childe felt your lack of remorse upon your refusal. “Why don’t you take Mr. Zhongli out?”
The way you were quick to disregard him was something Childe never thought he could ever prepare for. And he almost staggered back when you uttered the words he so loved to say to you back then;
“I really can’t today. Maybe next time?” You offered, but somehow, Childe knew that was nothing but a hollow promise.
He could only close the door from your personal study and looked at the basket neatly packed. There was something squeezing at his chest, a sensation he didn’t like in the slightest bit.
Childe didn’t know if it was the disillusioned part of him that sank into the abyss, but he gathered himself and fooled himself into thinking that nothing much has changed and nodded, taking your promise to his slowly shattering heart.
Ah. Well. Maybe next time then.
𐂂
Zhongli
Were you finally getting tired of him?
The adoration you and Zhongli shared was something to be admired. Countless people have watched you and him walk the pier and occasionally chat with vendors. The couples in love always expressed their sentiments — at how they hoped to embody even just a fraction of what you and Zhongli had.
You looked at him as if he shaped the mountains (and he technically did) and he relished into your unbridled attention. He enjoyed the time you spent with him constantly, you listened to his stories from the past and not once did you turn away from him as he spun his experiences into tales that only you of all people would appreciate.
Every word he uttered, he dedicated to you and only you. He wanted to share every piece of him with you and though the stories he told was barely a quarter of his life, he would tell a hundred more just to see you smile.
And he deeply cherished these moments, you brought fresh insights into his stories and listened so attentively. He loved you through the stories he told and you loved him through the endearing expressions you showed throughout the tales he would tell you.
Not a day goes by that Zhongli wasn’t thinking about you, of course. By the minute he wakes up, his mind automatically sifts through the many experiences he has been through, ready to give you more of his stories. This was your way of bonding after all and he appreciated every single moment of it. There will always be room for his storytelling in your otherwise busy schedule, you reassured him that much.
But then you started missing out.
The first instance was when he had patiently waited for you at that one spot just outside the harbor, the tea he had graciously prepared growing cold. And just as he was about to call it a day, you appeared, completely disheveled and out of breath, like you ran for your life.
Nothing warmed his heart more than seeing you try for him. Zhongli was already a man that felt the dedication of his people, but it always felt different when it was you who put the effort in.
After your frequent tardiness, you began to stop showing up altogether. Disappointment would flood his system when he would see Xiangling approach him with a smile that contrasted the sad news that you could no longer make it because of some other pressing matters.
But Zhongli was forgiving, he forgave every meet you missed, every time his stories started to go from one ear and out the other. He was determined to keep it going because, surely, this was only a one time thing, right? Perhaps your work has been doing numbers on you and what could he exactly do but only take care of you and soothe your worries with his tea and his stories.
Zhongli was forgiving, but he wasn’t completely unperturbed. In fact, there was a seed of anxiety that started sprouting within him as he roamed the streets of the harbor alone. He could feel the missing warmth of your arm around his waist as he talked to the usual vendors, not missing the sympathetic gazes and the not-so-hidden grimaces when he recounts that you have been all too busy.
And he wonders why you’ve grown so quiet inside the house.
When you could laugh so hard in the presence of someone else.
As soon as he heard that tinkling laughter of yours, he was quick on his feet, eager to see that smile that you so cruelly hid from him. Only to see you with someone else.
A young woman, by the looks of it, long hair and dressed in the most pristine clothes. Zhongli wasn’t completely flabbergasted, you could have friends that could make you just as happy, but the fear nipped at him when he watched the woman leave searing touches on your body, clearly with intent and you made no attempts to reject them.
There was an unmistakable pang of envy in Zhongli’s chest when he saw the way you so freely entertained this woman’s stories when you can barely spare him a second of your time.
Zhongli was thwarted back into the pain of reality as he compared the way you seem to be so much happier in the company of this woman in contrast to your recent interactions with him.
And he could feel himself grow cold. So, so cold when he realized that you were slowly showing hints of pure disinterest in him. The way you refused to look at him at times and when you could barely muster a word out when he would ask you about your day.
But he figured this was a sign from the fates, that he ought to take you back this time. That maybe you have been spending far too long of time away from his embrace.
And so he made sure to indulge you as best as he could when you finally arrived back home.
As you sat on the dining table that night, Zhongli had to jump through the many hurdles of pure anxiety just to finally initiate a conversation with you. To this, he could only hope his centuries of wisdom from being one of the oldest archon can aid him with you.
He took your hand in his, strangely cold and closed off, but he did not let it discourage his attempt, “Beloved, I seem to have noticed your sudden… disinterest in our conversations…” he began his little intervention. “Would you mind telling me what’s bothering you?”
Zhongli squeezed your hand in comfort, and he could feel his heart drop when you didn’t return the gesture, instead sliding your hand away from his grasp.
“You’re imagining things, Zhongli.” You claimed so casually as you continued with your meal. “And you already know I’d tell you anything that’s bothering me.” You said, looking at him with a small smile.
And yes, he knew. Zhongli knew you would.
But he also knew that when you lie, your eyes were like the abyss and that smile of yours didn’t reach your eyes.

Okay third time's the charm before I go to bed, pass out and slumber.
For once this is not horny. (shocking, I know)
We know some genshin characters travel a lot. Can we talk about how that is just yaasified camping? Like in a traveling party that includes Klee and Albedo that has to be so fun. Sing campfire songs, make food together, tell spooky stories,.... bro I want to go camping with Klee and Albedo. Who cares if we burn down a forest on accident.
-🦝
✿ 𝙖𝙙𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚? 𝙖𝙙𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚! ✿
characters: albedo and klee, the twins and paimon, kaeya and diluc, bennett and razor with fischl x gn!reader
warnings: some light angst, spoilers to character stories, archon quests and hangouts, reverse comfort, domestic fluff, fluff fluff fluff fluff fluff andnjsjd
notes: wanted to try and up my writings since it was headcannons format. also i’m sorry my loyal 🦝 anon but i wanted to try and include every iconic duos (trios in some cases) and not just albedo and klee. this definitely turned out super duper long but i’m kinda low-key, not really proud of myself for making it lmao
the teens and kid characters will strictly be platonic, whether you view the ones with adults as romantic or platonic is completely up to you!
domestic and chaotic mixed into one
klee will unknowingly act like you and albedo’s child and it’s fucking adorable
did you notice that both albedo and klee have hoodie hats sewed to their clothes?
yeah and if your clothes doesn’t have hoodie hat then klee and albedo would scheme together to make an outer clothing with matching style hoodie hat
and yes it was your birthday gift and yes you shed a tear or two
when running away from jean, if klee sees you hanging around in the city she will climb your back and hide behind you, like a sloth cuddling on a tree
“shh please don’t tell master jean that i’m here okay, mx [name]? giggle”
look at her in the eyes to try say no
just try it
as for albedo, he won’t hesitate to drop his current work or experiment if you were to ever call for him for help
and if you’re taller than him even by a single cm he won’t blink an eye to use you as a ladder
if you guys are traveling to sumeru together oh boy
get ready to have your hair turn white due to stress not really
“big brother albedo! i want this cute fluffy dog as a pet please?”
“klee, wait! that’s a slumpter beast! *cue albedo making a mad dash towards klee*”
“big brother albedo! this cute mr fish wants to play with me!”
“KLEE NO! THAT’S A CROCODILE!”
but not every travel is not always stressful
during the nights, you would set the camp and tent up while albedo prepares some dinner all the while sweet little klee would be making flower crowns for her “bestest big brother in the world” and “bestest big sibling in the world”🥹
when it’s time to sleep, klee will always be in the middle of you two. and no she doesn’t wanna sleep on one side. she wants BOTH of her big siblings
when you wake up your one hand would be tightly clutched in klees hand while the other holds albedo’s
“i wouldn’t mind going for more travels if it means we’ll spend time together like this” albedo would gently smile as he pulls you two closer
let’s just act that they’re reunited
paimon would definitely act like the spoiled youngest sibling
she constantly wants to be held or cuddled by someone
while the twins areee…
…hold on
…are they fighting over the last cookie?
holY SHIT THEY JUST PULLED OUT THEIR SWORDS! FALL BACK! FALL BACK!
distantly you can hear a monstrous voice screech “MY COOKIE!” before a loud boom followed
you and paimon don’t wanna know
they fight over everything and yes i mean EVERYTHING
“aether back off! me and [name] are going together to sumeru city for food ingredients”
“well excuse me, darling sister. but me and [name] have already made a promise to go to port ormos to restock!”
“HEY! paimon and [name] are going together to visit collei and tighnari! so if you’ll excuse us- *gets bonked*”
who gets to cuddle with you, who gets to carry you, who gets to make dinner so they can woo you, even who gets to bandage your injuries as you bleed out with paimon having the urge to slap the twins
“*slap!* THAT’S ENOUGH! [NAME] IS BLEEDING OUT YOU TWO DUMMIES!”
cue the panic
lumine is the twin that always sticks close by in case a monster attacks, always on high alert and will do anything to cut down any monster that appears
while aether is the twin that will always hug your arm or hold hands with you so he can defend you if anything were to happen
and paimon is uhhh… well she’s just there for moral support
but no matter what happens, the twins and paimon will always stay with you through and through🥹
if tension were to be embodied by people it’ll be these 2
due to their past and what happened between these 2 there’s always lingering negativity in the air
kaeya will always jab at diluc and diluc will always have the menacing glare on his face
kaeya’s words may have a playful tone and air to it but there will be lingering hidden thoughts behind
diluc may not jab back with words but the cold, emotionless glare is enough of an answer
though they may fight constantly there’s a mutual agreement between these 2
and that is to keep you safe even if you can fight and protect yourself
both kaeya and diluc have lost important people to them, with their last line being cut by crepus’ death so they can’t afford to lose another
besides have you ever tried making a team with these 2 in it? it’s one of the strongest melt and reverse melt team
anyways
once you’ve had enough and scolded them to make up and left them glued to their spot
now thanks to your scary parent energy they try to work through their disagreements and they’ve been getting better
not the best but at least you can have a day of peace without one chatting your ear off and the other throwing cruel glances
“BURN!”
“kaeya i’ll be fine! it’s just a light scratch on my side. nothing too dangerous”
“but it’s still a wound. don’t try to resist [name]. we’re only worried about your well being is all”
“uh huh, then what of your head injury?”
“…”
“kaeya? kae- HOLY SHIT DILUC! KAEYA JUST FAINTED!”
probably one of the most wholesome group🥹
all three of them see you as their mentor/older sibling figure
razor will come to you if he needs help with human communication and he has already introduced you to his lupical
“lupical! i need uhh uhmm”
“it’s alright razor. take your time”
“uhmm right! i need help with battle!”
“do you mean training razor?”
“yes! that!”
“what’s the magic word?”
“uhhm pl-leashe?”
after some training with him or helping him with his reading and talking, he always expects you to give him a head pat
and he will just follow you around like a puppy all the while making the 🥺 face
give.him.head.pats.NOW
bennett will always try to be help for you in any way
whether it be as simple as collecting firewood for the camp he will do it without hesitation
“big sibling told me to collect firewood😄”
if you were to ever get sick or injured during ‘adventuring’ with them bennett will always blame himself
it doesn’t matter if your injuries are just a scratch that barely stings, bennett will blame himself and his unlucky self
“sniff… i’m sorry. it was all because of me big sib… sniff”
if you don’t hug him and comfort him i won’t hesitate to crawl through the screen and smack you-
as for fischl she’s a like a mix of both of the boys
she would ask you for her help with her elemental mastery and bow mastery while also cheerfully carrying out any help you ask her of
“the great ruler of immernachtreich has asked her highness, der prinzessin for help. no matter the time nor place, i shall always respond to the cry of my greater sibling. come oz! thy prinzessin order thee to cometh along!”
if you were to praise her for the smallest of things such as her clothes or how wast her vocabulary is, she will turn into a stuttering mess while her internal self is just jumping around, rolling on the ground, screeching, squealing etc
congratulations you have gotten yourself 3 more little siblings who will follow you until the ends of world

Kazuha x Reader (Hogwarts AU)
Tags: reverse hurt/comfort, triggered by weather, coping with grief, gn!reader, implied past Kazuha/Friend
Words: 3.8k
The Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom was empty for only you and Professor Minci. You gulped nervously as she started to talk about your consistent “trolling” grade, which you still had to stifle a few laughs from hearing. You grew up in a Muggle family, and of course, the Internet.
She continued with how she tried to put you with other “high-achieving students” (Diluc and Kaeya) to get your grade up or making you sit on your own (after she found that you three together were the perfect stew for chatter) but they “probably weren't the best ways for you”.
“So that's why I'd like to introduce you to your peer tutor,” She finished. Peer tutor? You don't dare raise a brow at the idea even though you wanted to. You were sure that Diluc and Kaeya’s grades dropped that term because of all the chatting in class. Would you distract that peer tutor so much you'd forget about studying in the first place?
A knock on the door stopped your train of thoughts.
“Come in.”
You were first met with red eyes. Not as dark and piercing as the crimson in Diluc's, but a shade closer to the warm flame in the fireplace in the Gryffindor common room despite the fact that he was a Hufflepuff. His hair was white for only a few red strands, which was brushed to his right.
“Kadehara,” Professor Minci continued, “Will be your student tutor this term…”
She went on with a lot of details (like how good a student Kadehara was? Or he's a sixth year who didn’t drop the subject?) that you mostly missed, before noticing that it was almost time for dinner and ushered you two out of the room.
Kadehara said, “[name], are you fine with calling me Kazuha? I'm not really used to being called by my last name–”
You only blurted out the thing that was hanging on your mind from the moment you saw him. “You should put less stress on yourself, or even that red part of your hair will turn white at this rate if you insist on tutoring me.”
Kazuha's eyes widened for a second, probably from confusion.
“A-Ah no, I just bleached and dyed my hair! Kind of, actually. I wanted to dye it all red but the dyeing spell didn't work as well as I'd imagined,” he let out a few dry laughs, even though he didn’t look anything close to feeling awkward or already hating you.
You could feel the warmth creep up your face. Those rumors about the guy who found his hair whitened overnight was total bullcrap! Why would’ve you believed it? Are you fricking stupid? And had to make that tutor think you’re stupid in non-DA stuff? You ask yourself, almost embarrassing yourself in front of Kazuha again by nearly hitting yourself in the head with an imaginary rolled-up newspaper.
And so you both got back to your own tables without saying a word.
.ೃ࿐
“Isn't it time for you to go to that student tutor?” Kaeya asked. You groaned, looking up from the magical equivalent of a Rubik's cube in your hands, the only difference between both is that it keeps tricking you into the wrong steps by changing its colors and giving you riddles then roasts you for not solving the puzzle. It was a Saturday morning and the last thing that you had the mood to do was tutoring.
You pretend to have forgotten about the whole thing. “Tutor? What tutor?”
“The sixth-year who bleached his hair with a spell,” Diluc said, hands subconsciously turning his own cube.
“Ugh, thanks for the reminder.”
That conversation a few days ago had left a much sour taste in your mouth than you'd imagined that you were dreading seeing Kazuha again. Now every time you think of anything related to hair or peer tutoring (which Diluc and Kaeya are very unhelpfully mentioning in every conversation) you would cringe for the next hour about it– even Scara telling everyone that your face keeps turning into a tomato isn’t as embarrassing as that!
Don't know what to do next? Too bad. The words showed on your cube while it made obnoxious booing sounds. Note to self: get self a set of wizarding chess that is not from Dori.
You put the cube down for it to reshuffle in a flurry of colors and launch itself into Kaeya’s hands.
And for once the cube was right. You didn't really know what to do next, go to the library and face Kazuha or think of some random excuse that can convince Professor Minci to let you off the hook.
You left the common room. You knew that Kaeya and Diluc would literally drag you to the library if you stayed for a while longer, and they weren't sick of making hair-dyeing references yet while you were more than sick of the conversation with Kazuha.
Speak of the devil, he was standing next to the Fat Lady waiting for you.
“Oh, you're finally here.” He said with a smile as if the conversation didn't happen at all. “I thought you… forgot… or something…” Kazuha’s voice trailed off further as he went.
It was so awkward that you hoped that the floor would open up like the stairs did and swallow you whole (which it sadly didn't yet).
It took something like a million years and 20 tokens for you to generate a response, “It- I… lost my book. And notes, so, uh…”
You haven't even gotten to the part of calling off the tutoring session because of that when Kazuha replied, “That's fine, there are copies of textbooks in the library… it's really a blessing, isn't it?”
You could do nothing but nod and pray for whoever Merlin is to get you out of this cringefest.
.ೃ࿐
You both go to the library in total silence. There weren’t many students in the halls early on a Saturday morning. But you just can’t relax from the lingering threat of awkwardness. You and Kazuha each grabbed a seat at the left third row as a copy of the DA textbook automatically flew to your desk and opened itself on the first page.
“Ah, right. Would it be a bit inconvenient if you don’t have your own notes with you?” He asked while handing you a piece of paper. Yep, it’s the paper you’ve never seen ever since you’ve been to Hogwarts. You put it on your side of the table, your mind as blank as how it looked. “I never had any notes for DA,” you confess. Kazuha exhales deeply. “From now on,” He stated, “You have to start writing your notes.”
You groan.
“This subject is no fun…” Mumbling under your breath, you take your spare pencil out from your robe pocket, “I have no idea why Diluc and Kaeya could pass without even studying…” They were telling you to “blame everything on the pre-war Ministry” while you were still struggling with who did what. You were that day years old when you knew that Tom Riddle had never been the Minister of Magic.
Kazuha shrugged. “Most Muggle-borns like me have to study it the hard way. I mean– you’ve never known about the society and history and whatever shit we have here so you need, like, plenty of time to get used to it.” He puts his hair down and ties it back up, not giving a care about how he was swearing out loud. In the library.
You begrudgingly force your eyes back to the parchment and textbook. “How much do you mean by ‘plenty of time’? It’s been a term and I’m still trolling every single DA-related assignment.” Holding the urge to gnaw on the end of your pencil back, you finally write down the words “DA notes” on the paper.
“Can you tell me what the first chapter is about first?” He asks, gesturing to you to close the textbook. You stare at him with the same blank expression as if his head were the DA textbook. The air solidified around you. How on Earth would you know? You’ve never really touched the textbook, and he’s talking about the first chapter? Finally, you confidently tell him your answer which is definitely right. “It’s about how to defend yourself from the Dark Arts!”
Kazuha laughed– not dryly, but fortunately heartily. “Can’t say you’re totally wrong,” He said, a hint of amusement in his voice, “But I think it’s a sign for us to go through this chapter together.”
You start reading the chapter with him, the memories about the incident last week slowly fading to make way for the words in your textbook. The whatever “grim consequences of the Wizarding Wars” didn’t seem as hard as they seem to be, and even better– you finally remember the name Tom Riddle gave himself. (Hint: it’s not Dildo-lover Rat Mom or anything dildo-related) Kazuha seemed to be a way better teacher than Professor Minci– his voice was calming, but didn’t sound boring when he spoke and scribbled down concepts on his parchment.
“You see? It’s not as hard as you’ve imagined!”
Towards the end of the session (did time pass that quick?) you were at the end of the first chapter. There was still half an hour before lunch starts and you were too lazy to go back to the Common Room yet, so you decided to chat for a while while waiting.
“First year DA used to be more fun,” Kazuha sighed, “They had At least that’s what I heard from my seniors.” He puts his own quill and parchment away.
You say, “Define ‘fun’. If you’re talking about some lame Auror droning on about how he peaked in his teenage years and gave his wand to a dead man in the end, don’t count me in.” You weren’t even sure if Harry Potter did ever come back to Hogwarts to do some speech or whatever for the first years–but it’s most likely true if Kaeya told you. Very big thanks to the trust issues everyone you knew gave you after last week.
Books in the distance flew back onto their shelves, dust falling down onto your table.
“I mean- yeah, Auror Potter did come back to introduce DA for first years, but, that was like, a couple of years ago. And if I were you, I wouldn't say that he's lame.” Kazuha’s round, autumn-like eyes fell, staring at the dust.
The air was lead. And you both were suffocating in it.
A gust of wind blew the invisible lead, along with the dust away. “Anyways, they used to have lessons on the actual stuff besides all those theories. Combatting Boggarts? Check. Resisting Unforgivables? Check. Professors who make up ninety-nine percent of the Dark Arts themselves? Check.”
He kept on talking about how they postponed all that cool stuff to the third year. You would’ve looked forward to fighting off evil creatures but you were more stuck in Kazuha’s reaction to what you said. You had to blurt and now you don’t think he’s feeling totally good with that. Great.
You headed your own ways without a word.
.ೃ࿐
It has been two months since Kazuha started tutoring you, always sitting at the left third row in tutoring sessions. Your DA grades were getting better– definitely not the best, but having four assignments in a row without a “Troll” was progress. You started to control your big, fat mouth in front of him as well. You didn’t want to risk embarrassing yourself or having him look at the dust again.
Kazuha was a great guy as well– a cool sixth-year that you could rely on. When you met him out of tutoring, he would wave, or stop for a chat with you, slightly blushing when his friends hooted or whistled behind. His kitten– which perched on his shoulder like a Pikachu– even stretched itself to you when you met Kazuha, begging for a boop on the nose. He sometimes talked about his misadventures as a first year which always made you laugh, but you could sense the hint of something else in it, whether in his gaze or tone.
You were walking alone on the path next to the Great Lake on a sunny afternoon. Diluc and Kaeya were busy talking to Dehya about joining the Quidditch team next year and they told you not to wait for them.
The blonde with the red strand in his hair, sitting next to the lake while putting a maple leaf on the calm water surface. With a gentle swish of his wand the leaf sailed away, leaving two lines on the lake. “Didn’t you watch the Quidditch match?” You ask.
He said, “No, I didn’t.” Before putting another maple leaf onto the water.
“Come on! You totally missed out on how Gryffindor whooped the butts of all those Slytherins! It took, like, three whole hours before Heizou finally caught the Snitch!” You sat next to him, looking at the maple leaf floating on the water.
Kazuha fidgeted with his wand like how you would spin your pen in class. “I… used to love watching Quidditch, but…” He lost hold of its wand, luckily catching it before it fell into the water, “The person I usually watched playing left. So, yeah.”
“Left in terms of graduated?” You ask.
“You can say it like that.”
He stopped putting leaves into the lake.
You sit in silence with him for a while. Before you leave upon seeing Diluc and Kaeya in the distance.
.ೃ࿐
Another Saturday morning. It's raining so heavily that you thought that someone was pouring buckets of black water down from the roof. Breakfast was over already and you were running late for tutoring so you had to ignore the sensation in your gut.
You grab your textbook and notes and make a mad dash to the library, passing the practically waterfalls of rain along the corridors. You look at your usual seat. He wasn't there yet despite you being already– you look at the clock– ten minutes late.
Huh. That's weird. Maybe he decided to go to a new table today for the view? You look into the dark, barely-illuminated depths of the library. Nope. Not searching by yourself.
You go up to the front table and ask the librarian Pela if she had seen Kazuha.
Pela shakes her head, before picking back up the doujinshi she was reading.
Feeling like sticking out like a sore thumb, you go back to your usual table. Maybe he just overslept like you did and he was on his way here.
Another ten minutes pass. No sign of Kazuha. You open your textbook and start studying Chapter Nine. But no matter how many times you read it, the words just rebound from your brain and back into the textbook.
You close it a bit too loudly in frustration. Where was he?
“Mmnh?” Kazuha appears in the corridor next to your table, black circles under his puffy eyes. He forces a smile and says, “Sorry for being late, I pulled an all-nighter last night and got to bed at five AM. I got myself some coffee, so… don’t worry too much about me.”
He sets his stuff down on the table and immediately starts explaining the chapter.
“… So Aurors had to undergo strict tests…” He kept speaking, eyes on the textbook. His voice was raspy– not Scara’s oh-im-so-dark-and-mysterious type, but rather the type you get when you catch a cold or have stayed up the whole night crying.
Maybe he caught a cold after pulling an all-nighter. Just maybe.
His words fuse with the pattering of the rain on the windows outside. You can’t comprehend anything he was saying while your mind is running a hundred miles per hour wondering what’s wrong with Kazuha even though you know that it’s technically not your business. You don’t even bother asking yourself to focus– your head was just too occupied with these thoughts.
He didn’t notice the fact you weren’t listening at all. “Nowadays, Aurors still have to- to… fight against… the remaining power of Tom Riddle’s followers…” He said, trailing off at the end of the sentence. You look at him. Then at the textbook, where a whole chart of different events with the corresponding years with the title “Major Breakthroughs in Defending Post-War Magical Britain from Death Eaters” occupied two whole pages.
Kazuha was covering his eyes with both his hands, his elbows resting on the table. You can hear his muffled sniffling.
Well, that was definitely more than a cold.
“Kazuha? Uh- you ok?” You felt stupid asking this question. He is visibly not OK, cold or not. The ball of panic erupted in your head. Is this supposed to be normal? Think, [name], you have to think… Why is he like this? What can I do?
Your pencil feels slippery, and if you keep the tip pressed on your notebook you’d be drawing a seismograph.
You had never seen him like this. Like, of course, you guys just met two months ago and you expect him to be vulnerable in front of you? But you always saw him as the “cool senior student”.
A flash of lightning.
You ask, “What happened?” as if your head has been struck by a Stupefy. It came out as a whisper.
Kazuha rested his head on the table, not looking at you.
The roaring of thunder broke in the library, not helping with anything at all.
“It- it’s just the weather…” He turned his back against you, conjuring a piece of tissue paper.
You put your pencil down. “Yeah, awful weather, isn’t it?” You say without even thinking, your voice sounding dead.
Lightning struck again, momentarily painting the room in white.
Kazuha closes the textbook. “I’ve always hated rainstorms,” he says, his voice still breaking, “They… they took him away. In the middle of a rainstorm.”
Your train of thought gets cut short by the thunderclap. “I’m… sorry for that.”
“No, y-you don’t have to. It’s not your fault.” The feeble candlelight flickers, illuminating his face. Fresh tears were streaming down his reddened cheeks, his red eyes looking like the Great Lake under the sunset. His light hair was slightly disheveled, which he brushed towards one side. “It’s just that… I never thought that they would be that cruel.”
The pattering sound outside seemed louder. “Tomo… I should’ve… Why didn’t I…” Kazuha muttered under his breath.
“Mind if we, uh, just,” You struggle to find the right words to say, “Talk about it?”
Kazuha nods.
“Tomo… he was a nice friend. A Ravenclaw. He was a fourth-year student when I started studying here…”
The candles flickered a few more times, teetering at the verge of totally going out before reilluminating itself.
“I got bullied for being a Muggleborn and having a strange accent, he was the only other Japanese guy here and he stood up for me so… we became friends…” He paused.
“I should’ve stopped him from being an Auror if I knew this would happen to him… He could’ve been a good Quidditch player or potionmaker or… I was just happy for him when he told me he passed all the tests last summer but just on his very first mission…”
His voice broke again. You scooted over to him. “He sent me a letter that morning about how he looked forward to it and before I could reply, that evening it rained until the next morning and what I saw on the news was that…”
You patted his back. The wind howled, as if it were weeping as well. Leaves flew by the window, which was barely holding on to the frame. You haven’t even experienced such a storm back where you lived.
“The Death Eaters killed him but didn’t take his wand. His partner told me he could’ve survived if they didn’t fire a second spell at him…”
“They really are… heartless. More than I'd imagined. It must’ve been awful knowing that,” you say.
Kazuha continued, “It was. The first spell landed on his keychain instead… Why were they so bent on… doing this? He fought until the last moment… The keychain… we bought a matching pair at a cheap souvenir store together at Hogsmeade… it cracked when the spell hit…”
“I kept it when they sent it to me. And… his kitten… I guess it helped me keep my mind off stuff for a while.”
The raindrops sounded lighter.
“… he loved cats, but his parents were allergic so he got it after graduation when he got to rent a house with his colleagues and updated me about his life and training along with a photo of his kitten every single day… And he was a good Quidditch player but quit in his sixth year. If he were a Quidditch player maybe he would’ve still been here but not…”
The sky seemed lighter as the heavy rain faded. Kazuha fell silent. “Was he happy? About being an Auror?” You asked.
He nodded. “It… it was his lifelong dream. I had thought of pulling that ‘stealing a Time-turner’ trick in those rumors… but I guess he wouldn't listen if I went back and asked him not to become an Auror. It would’ve been selfish of me to do that but there’s just that part of me that wanted to save him…”
You think aloud, “He wouldn't have regretted anything even in his last moments.”
“Huh?” Kazuha asked.
You’ve done it again. Why can’t you take control of what you say? You stare at him, trying not to let him know that your mind is rolling down the spiral staircase for the rest of the summer.
“You are right. It was always his dream to be an Auror. And he achieved it,” He said, looking back at you.
A few drops of rain clung to the window frame, occasionally dripping down.
“It was just… never your fault, ok? Fudge those Death Eaters, I bet they get haunted by Tomo’s ghost every night that they’ve gone insane in Alakazam,” You tell him, not minding that you’re (almost) swearing out loud in the library.
Kazuha coughed out a few laughs as he wiped off his tears. “It’s Azkaban! Why must you make a Pokemon reference here?”
You put up your most innocuous smile.
The bell rings for lunch.
“Anyways, uh,” Kazuha stutters while tidying up his stuff, “Thanks but... Sorry for… just… venting to you like that…” He blushes, red creeping up from his neck to his face.
You give him a playful slap in the back. “No biggie– as long as you’re feeling fine now.”
You walk out of the library. The thick layer of clouds have disappeared, leaving only a few droplets on the trees and the birds singing.
You part ways at the Great Hall as usual.

please don't say you love me.
synopsis: one word from you and i'd come crawling back | wc — 0.5k
[ !! ] — masterlist.
characters: kaeya x gn!reader
categories: fluff + some reverse comfort, scenario
warnings: mild overthinking?? honestly not sure how to tag this but there's nothing graphic or heavily related to mental health at all (by my knowledge)
notes: being held up like a long slinky cat rn as a threat to write this /j kaeya simps come eat. by the stars help me the transition from fluff to reverse comfort is so clunky im crying. oh and guess i should wish the mf that's so hard for me to write a happy birthday
request: Heyyy Beau :D Is it alright if I request a fic where Kaeya spends his day off with his spouse (you)?? The soft mornings where you two sleep in and relax in each other’s presence. All that kind of stuff. - Tired
“-Kaeya.”
Sun shone through the crack in the blinds, catching on the wedding bands that were lovingly placed on the nightstand. The hushed words of his name stirred him from a rare dreamless rest, a soft groan escaping his lips before he buried back into your embrace. Bodies entangled in a mess of limbs, you laughed and clutched him to you tighter.
Your warm chuckle was like honey to his ears as you ran a hand through ruffled blue locks. He hummed in satisfaction and tilted his head towards your touch, a periwinkle eye opening once again to gaze at you with fondness as his hand made its way to cup your face.
“Good morning, my love,” you said with a smile as your hand ran across his jawline in return, “Did you have a good rest?”
Kaeya basked in the way your eyes glowed with faint sunlight, beams dancing over your features and how your eyes scrunched at the corner with your smile. Nodding, he pressed a kiss to your nose and tapped his forehead against yours with a grin.
“Quite the refreshing one.” He traced around the outside of your ear, keeping a laugh stifled as you shuddered at the cold touch. His hands were always freezing. “Did any pleasant dreams about me come and bless you last night?” You rolled your eyes in mirth and squished his cheeks, muffled protests being as you did so.
“Do you know what day it is today, Kaeya?” He snaked his hand around your waist, hand rested on the small of your back.
“No, I do not. But you’ve piqued my interest so please, enlighten me, my dear.” Your heartful stare had him pause, the smile slowly sliding off his face.
Outward distaste to this day wasn’t something often shown nor were these feelings common. But every now and then, a weight of sharp blues and cold whites always seemed to drop on his chest. Childhood lost and found in small increments, a mess of a man is what he considered himself to be; trapped between growing too early and making up for it too late.
“Kaeya.” He hadn’t realised that tears had begun to spring, your warm hand coming to wipe them away. Warm, you were always warm to contrast his cold. A shaky grin came to rest on his face as he let out a wet laugh, one that didn’t sound deep but held no boundaries to its meaning.
“I wonder, what did I ever do to deserve you in my life.” The words came out quieter than anticipated yet you only smiled back. You went to speak but he placed his hand over your mouth.
“Don’t. Just, I don’t think I’d be able to-” Slowly, you took his hand away, delicately placing a kiss on his wrist and interlaced his limp fingers with yours. Overwhelming warmth burst through his hand, cold skin burning up at the touch. A choked-out sob crawled its way out of his throat; tears stung the corner of his eyes leaving him to gasp. It felt like bliss; pools of warm colours off the spectrum thrummed in his heart and invaded his sight.
“I love you, Kaeya. Always have, always will.” you cooed softly, a firm, but reassuring, kiss placed on his forehead as salty tears were carefully wiped away. “I wish I could’ve been there. To do more for you because you deserve more.” His blurry gaze was all that took up your mind and you leaned in closer, lips barely touching.
“Happy birthday, my love.”

Kaeya x GN!Reader - Reverse comfort/anniversary
Tw: soft Kaeya :)
The cavalry captain collapsed onto the couch within your shared apartment. The day had been long, as several more knights had been rendered injured by the recent stormterror attacks. His workload had practically doubled just within a couple days, leaving him drained on a good day and absolutely hammered at the tavern on a bad day. You were thankful he had come home first today, coming up behind him and running your hands over his shoulders. He gazed up up at you with a tired eye, a slight smile forcing it's way onto his face "Hello there love," he reached up to smooth a thumb over your cheek. Leaning into his touch with a soft sigh, you lean over the back of the couch to kiss his forehead "Another rough day?" He gave a small nod.
You hummed gently "Are you hungry? I've got dinner made already, I kept it on the stove to keep it warm for you," His gaze softened "Of course, mind going ahead of me my dear? I've got one last thing to do today," you tilt your head in curiosity but pull away. While setting up the dinner table you feel arms wrapping around your waist, his face nuzzling into the crook of your neck "I love you," he murmured against your skin. Placing a kiss to your shoulder he pulled back, cold metal touching your skin. A chain settled around your neck, and as you reach up you can recognize the snowflake shaped pendant against your fingers. He puts a mirror in front of you so you can look, a beautiful necklace sitting around your neck.
You turn to kiss his cheek "I love it, thank you. I had almost believed you'd forgot. Not that I would have blamed you, I know work has been atrocious lately," he chuckled, the sound reverberating against your back from his chest "I'd never forget the most important day of our love. The only thing that could ever be more important is our wedding anniversary," he squeezed your hips gently "Well, if you ever proposed perhaps that could become a reality," you tease. He chuckles again and steals a kiss from your lips "Soon, I want to make sure there's nothing in the way. After the problem with stormterror is settled, I promise you we'll take that step." You melt against him, turning to wrap your arms around him and hide your face into his chest. He laid his chin on top of your head, stroking his hand up and down your spine gently "Why don't we sit down and enjoy this magnificent meal you've prepared? I promise you, afterwards I'm all yours~" he cooed, kissing your forehead before pulling away to sit with you. You really couldn't love this man more than you already did, even if nobody else could see just how sweet he could be.

I was recently reminded again of how much Diluc has hurt Kaeya and not apologized for it and that pissed me off, so I would like to request something along those lines please.
Like, Kaeya's S/O learned what happened during the ragros's fallout and they are PISSED at Diluc for it? Like, they do acknowledge that Kaeya did a not-good in revealing his origins at literally the worst possible time, but what Diluc did was way worse?! And they so badly want to punch him for it?!?! You don't have to write them punching Diluc, honestly you can take this premise in whatever direction you wish, though I do hope for not so much angst and more reverse-comfort for Kaeya.
I just want to read about someone who loves Kaeya and who is pissed at all he's gone through, especially because he has every right to be angry about it and to want an apology but he never seems to advocate for himself, and that just makes me even sadder for him and even angrier at those who hurt him and I just want to hug him and prevent the world from hurting him again AAAAAH!!!
Sorry, I hope this request is of some interest to you, no pressure if it's not, also sorry if it's too detailed ^^;
When Kaeya told you the truth about himself you did your best to remove yourself from the situation and look at it objectively. He looked so nervous and worried that you couldn't help but pity him, telling him that you're not upset or thinking about leaving him, you just need time to process.
As soon as you're done Kaeya makes some passing comment about being glad he didn't lose you the way he did Diluc. It makes you pause as you ask him to clarify. You hear him immediately covering up for Diluc and telling you that he didn't do anything wrong. Somewhere, you understand that Kaeya's defending him because he still cares for Diluc a lot but you just wish that Diluc responded a little bit better.
You decide to ignore your anger at Dilucin favour for taking care of Kaeya. He looks almost defeated, unsure what you're thinking of saying to him. You sit with Kaeya and tell him that while you can understand why Diluc did what he did, he didn't need to hurt Kaeya. He tries to contest your statement but you simply shake your head, trying to wrap your mind around just how much Kaeya has been through.
The two of you end up spending the rest of the night with each other. You hold Kaeya in your chest, reassuring him that he's done nothing wrong and that he's carrying an impossible burden. He feels his burden lessening at your kind words, reassured that you don't hate him for something he can't help.
He doesn't tell you everything all at once. It's far too much and he tells you as much, wanting you not to feel as though he's purposefully trying to hide something from you. However, he does tell you that he wants to tell you everything and that he's done hiding his past from you. You feel grateful that he's willing to open up to you so much, telling him it's okay for him to take his time and that you're more than willing to wait patiently for him to tell you at his own pace.
You also try to help him talk to Diluc again. You know how much their strained relationship hurts him and you know they both would be much happier if they just communicated about what happened. It takes some time but Kaeya's happy with any progress being made, Diluc's slight aversion leaps ahead of outright hostility Kaeya has resigned himself to.

I need to ramble about babyre aether angst
-he goes into Inazuma completely unafraid of lightning. he even loves standing outside when it's raining or thundering to just breathe in the air, the calm before the storm, if you would say.
then, Inazuma came. the first storm (of many) came after a particularly bad fight with an electro enemy he'd never seen before, and it took him approximately 0.5 seconds to just break down in the middle of the wilderness. he was overwhelmed from the fact that he's in a new nation, with only one caregiver 1/4 the size of him (Paimon) and he's soaked from the rain. he cried, throws a fit, and when Paimon eventually manages to put up a tent, aether is unwilling to sleep, still clutching a stuffed animal from Mondstadt (diluc gifted to him) and even after the rain stops, he still refuses to sleep.
anyways ...
babyre diluc. he wants to try and regress because he's so stressed and Venti recommends it to him (baby venti real) and it's kinda like a reverse role thing? venti as a cg would be like, very low energy CG- which does not match with diluc. venti will try and coax the little redhead to bed in order to nap cause Big diluc has a busy and tiring day.
but no
diluc has energy
he has the bartender zoomies
anyways
diluc is a HEAVY caregiver lean- only regressing on his birthday (if you know, you know) and when he's really bored. 7-9 during the day, and 0-1 when he's sleepy/naptime. padded probably, too.
Ooooh I love it!!! Actually you kind of read my mind with the fic I am writing.
A bit more angst for your consideration :3
Aether hc's
~Aether with phantom pains from his missing wings and the storms only make it worse, scars aching. So going to Inazuma he just gets used to being in constant pain. Which causes him to regress when everything catches up on him all at once
~And he’s gotten so used to going to his closest friend when small. Mond was the easiest to regress in being the city of freedom and so many people knew what regression is without needing explanation.
~Diluc or Kaeya being his go to. Venti, Jean or Lisa after that. Liyue it was easy to call for Xiao or go to find Zhongli. And the thought crosses his mind to try and call for the adeptus to come and comfort him if only for a moment. Soaked and shivering and really craving a hug because despite Paimon’s best efforts her hugs don’t make him feel secure but rather that he needs to stop ‘being a baby’ and protect her
~and most if not all of his regression gear is left behind because he’s always been able to simply travel between nations. It’s not like he has the space to carry everything so he has one comfort item and that’s it
~ He's a crying mess and it feels like how it was at the start of his journey before he met anyone and felt safe enough to trust someone with the most vulnerable parts of himself
Diluc hc's
~XD oh my gosh ‘bartender zoomies’ I love that
~Venti has a constant fight trying to get the little to sleep or at the very least settle and rest to recover a little energy
~Which I think would be very ironic because Diluc caregiving would definitely have a strict bedtime routine for his little ones
~Oh wait that’s so sad. Because the idea of regressing regularly when it’s his birthday but instead of the childish wonder at having a party and blowing out candles,he’s 8 again and mourning the days before his life fell apart. And trying to find his dad and brother before remembering, oh wait Kae doesn’t like him anymore and papa is…
~And knowing where Kaeya is, either drinking away the memories or with regressed with Albedo and wanting to go and find him but knowing he's probably the last person Kae wants to see right now
