BARS FINAL LEOTARD REVIEW

Zhang Yihan- China

This is lovely. I love this. The shades of yellow and orange make it look gold without looking gaudy. The stones make it sparkly and the colour blocking looks like brushstrokes. She looks bright and glittery and gilded. 10/10

Suni Lee- USA

Suni is wearing the same leo we saw on Simone yesterday in the final and I stand by my appreciation of the waffle pattern and disdain of whatever is happening on the mesh. 6/10

Becky Downie- GB

We’ve already seen this on her teammates in the all-around and I still don’t like it. 3/10

Qiu Qiyuan- China

I love a good purple. The design is fairly simple but the colours definitely elevate it. 7/10

Kaylia Neymour- Algeria

Hopefully her gold will finally convince the designers to put her in something more befitting an Olympic champion. The red and green stones are fine but I want more! This is timid and too afraid to be bold and that does not represent Kaylia. 4/10

Nina Derwael- Belgium

Is this a new leotard? I genuinely don’t know. You could tell me that this is from 6 years ago and I would believe you without question. This looks the same as everything she’s ever worn and I’m so bored. 3/10

Alice D’Amato- Italy

I picked this photo fully aware that you can’t really see the design on the chest, but that’s okay because it looks the same as everything else the Italians have worn so far. Give her some contrasting colours for gods sake, maybe that’ll help her finally get on the podium like she deserves. 3/10

Helen Kevric- Germany

I’m frankly kind of offended by the fact that throughout this competition there have barely been any photos of my girl Helen. She has delivered nothing but solid work and there were a grand total of three (3) photos of her from this final. This is the only one that properly shows her leotard and I had to zoom in to get her in the background. AND ITS SUCH A GOOD ONE. The blue is so nice and the design is very classic for the German gymnastics and I love that the design on her shoulders looks like wings. ITS A SHAME THERE ARE NO DAMN PHOTOS OF IT. 8/10

This was the next best photo of Helen but you can’t properly see the shoulders and I refuse to resort to another upside-down one 😡

Helen Grainger, 29 (Australia 2007)

After abortion was legalized in Australia, women began dying from the abortions that were falsely advertised to them as “safe and legal”. One of them was 29-year-old Helen Grainger.

Helen hadn’t wanted an abortion at all, but in April of 2007, Helen was told to have an abortion because she had health problems, including asthma and kidney disease. With her health conditions, she was not a candidate for an elective surgery. Abortion did not save her.

Helen underwent an abortion at Lambton Road Day Surgery. An inquest discovered that the abortionist had administered a medication called Kelflex, which Helen had a lethal allergy to. Her vital signs crashed within minutes of being taken to recovery. An inquest later discovered that the abortionist noticed Helen’s reaction but treated her incorrectly. He administered an overdose of adrenaline using a method that was inappropriate for her based on the severity of the reaction. According to the inquest, Helen was also dosed with approximately 20 times the amount she should have been given.

The incompetent overdose did nothing to help Helen and an ambulance had to be called. By the time the ambulance arrived, Helen’s chest was very tight and she was already in anaphylactic shock.

The ambulance took her to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital, where she was put on life support. Her brain was severely damaged and she was taken off of the life support machines 3 days after the abortion that was supposedly for her own health.

Helen isn’t the only one to die from severe anaphylactic shock after being given a dangerous allergen during an abortion. Kelly Morse, an American with a Lidocaine allergy, was given 12 ccs of a Lidocaine solution by an abortion facility that allowed her to turn black and blue from oxygen deprivation. (This was after she told the facility’s staff about her allergy AND sent medical records documenting it.) There are also reports of anaphylactic shock induced by chemical abortion.

Abortion didn’t save Helen. If her health problems were making her pregnancy high-risk, she should have been carefully monitored and correctly treated in a hospital. A C-section or early induced labor for a high-risk pregnancy could have saved her and her baby.

What enrages me the most is we’ve been aware global warming has been happening since the 1940’s, with real evidence of impending doom and devastation since the 1970’s. That’s over 50 years to implement changes that could have stopped the very devastation we’re continuing to witness, and still the powerful and rich shrug their shoulders and say there’s nothing to be done. This was never our fate, this was always an act of violence done to us by them.

kon calling yj meetings sans bart in ma and pa’s barn, complete with a slideshow and ma’s cookies and lemonade bc kon needs to go through his talking points before confessing his love to bart. yj of course gives him pointers and feedback accordingly so he doesn’t fuck this up.

meanwhile barry’s teaching bart how to avoid jailtime in a sciencell by mapping out how to fuck with the timestream this way and that way while maintaining control and giving the speed force, the great darkness, AND the presence enough entertainment that they’ll continue to stick by his side even if he decides to break the multiverse bc of a personal problem. what kinda personal problem, bart asks. oh you know, a mental breakdown or four, says barry. max is watching from five feet away, contemplating suicide while helen helps bart take notes on barry’s tips and tricks on unmaking and remaking universes bc of personal problems.

impulse 1995 is genuinely one of the best comics ever made because the way it balances the humour and serious topics and goes in depth about characters and their relationship is so perfect and each character has something to offer and how it shows how bart, a kid raised in a video game reality from the future, is adapting to live in the current times is so interesting and so well done because it highlights how bart has no concept of danger and how max is helping him learn that because he's too well, impulsive.

but i think my personal favourite thing about impulse 1995 is barts relationships with the characters around him like max, helen, preston, carol and the rest of his friend group etc because we can see how bart grows through them specifically max.

because with max it stats off wobbly because barts just a kid with no concept of danger and max is trying so hard to make bart slow down and just think for a moment but barts not used to doing that and in his eyes if a plan works then its fine. but then past the bickering and stuff you can clearly see how much max and bart care for each other and come to see each other as father/son.

its really shown during the mercury falling arc because bart is willing to do anything and everything it takes to help bruce and even ends up breaking down in one of the young justice issues because hes so worried about max whilst max didnt even want to tell bart because he didnt want to worry him.

and then bart gets replaced with thad and thad realises that all he's really wanted is a family and people who care for him and that hes JEALOUS of bart which is where his hatred of him stems from.

and as often as bart is aloof, he's equally as emotional and intelligent like when he talks about how people got used to thad and maybe would prefer thad more because thad was more "efficient" than he was and even before that when they were travelling to the speedforce and bart caught up to max and thad, max and bart offered for thad to come back and live with them and you could TELL that thad wanted it and it's just so interesting because thad and bart mirror each other so much and its so visible in this comic but WHATEVER im so normal about it

have vaguely spoken about this before but genuinely one of my favourite things in tma is the conversations jon + helen have in season 4.

it starts off with jon feeling intense anger over her very existence - how dare she be such a cruel monster? then helen never fails to call him out on his bullshit because how could he, a monster, be so angry at someone who is so very similar to him? shown with lines like "if i am an it, then what does that make you, archivist?"

and at some point (i think around mag 146/147) it clicks for jon that she's right, they're really not so different. she's just more experienced than him. so in mag 152 he doesn't call her evil, instead he talks to her like she's an equal. he even asks her questions about being a monster and when talking about avatars says "people like us".

to me it really shows something about how jon deals with and accepts his new position in the world

JL:war Scene where Helen gets stolen by parademons and while the heroes are regrouping after securing a perimeter/ containing the parademons to one location, Hal is freaking the fuck out on a chair in the back. Everyone saw the girl get stolen but nobody knew that she and Hal are related.

A few hours later while they are bringing all the people who got abducted back, there is one child who run off and hid in rubble and no one can get through to her to come out. Hal shows up after helping with the other abductees not finding his niece and the other leaguers are about to tell him to leave it since the child is obviously afraid and he's not known for being a comforting figure, and he just walks directly through them, lets his GL suit melt away and kneels by the hole she has stuffed herself in.

Wonder woman is about to pull him away before the kid jumps out at him and tackles him so falls flat on his ass in a hug, holding onto his flight suit while crying. Hal wraps his arms around her and just holds her until she calms down, then gets off the floor and picks her up.

"Let's go find your dad before he beats my butt"
