Learning to live through Addiction.

When you play with fire you will always get burned. Being an addict, I always kept it a secret and didn’t want my family to ever know what my addiction was. In fear of being judged or looked down upon. When you are doing wrong no matter how good you try to cover it up, the dark always comes to light. Now that I had left a toxic marriage and started dating my ex-boyfriend from high school years. Things were fun and exciting at the beginning, hanging out on the weekends, no kids, no problem. Everything was fine, in my mind I always told myself I was a functioning addict. If I was not in the streets, selling my body or my things to get the dope I told myself that I needed then it was ok to use... Never thought I could have kids, since I did not ever get pregnant with my ex-husband, God had other plans for my life. You do not see it in the beginning how much God tries to steer you on the right path until you find yourself going down the wrong. I found out I was pregnant with my oldest son Johnny when I was already three months far along. I was happy and sad at the same time just for the fact that I had used not every day for those three months but throughout those three months I did use occasionally. So, after going to the doctor and getting the Yes you are pregnant confirmed I stopped using and told myself that I would not ever use again. This miracle baby that I had long craved for, was in my belly and I was stoked.

I made a lot of empty promises to myself and others back in my drinking days. Without fail, I’d bite off more than I could chew. Grandiose idea spoken with good intentions but no resources, support, or knowledge of how to follow through. It was a vicious cycle of swearing off drinking just to be drunk by the end of the day AGAIN! I didn’t understand, I was ready to be done, why can’t I stop!?!? It wasn’t until I learned that I didn’t have to stay sober for the rest of my life that things took a turn. Not one or two, but THREE YEARS clean and serene. The last three years I have made the conscious decision not to pick up a drink or a drug and I am beyond proud of myself for making it this far. Staying sober has not been an easy challenge, but like everyone says "it works if you work it" and I "keep coming back" because I want to reach many more milestones. This past year, alone, I have endured many obstacles to get rid of all my legal issues and am happy to say I get to start back off with a clean slate. Also, I have been working with the same company (Evolutions Treatment Center) since March of 2022 and have had the pleasure of helping many other drug addicts and alcoholics along the way.
