4Minutes Ep 1 - 4 Live Blogging

I’m in Chicago and hanging out with friends but also, I’m awake while the others are sleeping/busy. So maybe I’ll start watching this hmmm. Ideally I’d binge/watch each episode in one go, then go through archives and posts for that episode, then move on to next episode but the rest of the week once I get home is also going to be chaotic, so I don’t think I can watch the episodes with my full attention then either. I wanna be caught up for Friday’s episode, so here we go on my ipad. I saw a bunch of stuff for the first two eps and some stuff for the third ep; most of it was Fuaiz character with Bas or Jjay so I kinda don’t know what’s going on with our main couple except Bible’s character sees visions (including having sex w the other guy).

Ep 1 (Aug 11/12)

Interesting first episode, lots of things happened and my interest is piqued. What’s up with the woman who ran in front of the car and her mysterious son that’s Great’s age? How are the characters’ paths gonna cross? What’s the 4 minutes thing even? exciting. Well shot and the sex scene going so far startled me even though I kinda knew about it. Gotta wait until Tuesday to watch eps 2 and 3 rip.

Last episode before I have to wait just like the rest of them :') Just 4.5 weeks or so until the finale though.

Two murders in a similar way... So somebody killed Tonkla's brother and Tonkla killed them with the stone similarly

We've moved on from 11:00 to 11:01 last ep and it's showing up plenty this ep. There were some theories that Great has until 11:04 in the current timeline where he's in the hospital bed to change the stuff in his past, which could be interesting

I'd seen the 2 timelines theory but I wasn't sure if that would actually work because Korn and Great were at that dinner with their parents at the same time. And I thought it was after Great started seeing the future and Korn got assigned to the new thing, which we had mentioned to Tonkla.

I wonder why Great had seen the 4 minutes future this episode? Usually it's a significant event, especially ones where he made a cowardly choice, but that time, his heart started hurting and he dropped his drink?

heh, I'm so glad I got to watch this ep right after it aired but now I've gotta wait for a week + some few hours because I'll be at work on Friday next week :<

Some progress on the TymeGreat front but it feels a bit strange how shallow? it seems because they've hardly spent time with each other and know nearly nothing about each other but Great is betraying his brother for Tyme and risking his life etc. Maybe because he has the visions of the two of them together and so is trying to speed up the romance? it just feels like their relationship is unearned/lacking which is a stark contrast to how in-depth and complex they're getting with Tonkla's relationships. So is the TymeGreat thing on purpose?

I'm curious how they'll deal with the 2 timelines stuff because the butterfly effect is kind of happening but not really???? The merging of two timelines where Tonkla is in the original one and Great is in the redo one but they bleed into each other (or rather maybe the redo is bleeding into the original one?)

Also I was wondering if the cold opens are from the future but it seems not, right? So does Win know right know that Tonkla is a murder suspect as he sleeps with him after finding out he already has someone and Tonkla's cheating with him? Win grow a backbone and stand for something. Letting himself be used as a side piece by a murder suspect, girl.

FRITTI!!! (yes i stole its name from fritti tailchaser) (it/its) i torture fritti so bad. its so unwell. ace honey if you read this there is a secret i don’t think i’ve told you abt. uh. be warned i guess. ANYWAY! bbygirl is my favourite chew toy. it’s my first dnd character, n it’s a changeling who fuckin. forgot its a changeling. general backstory: it got separated from its fae family somehow n was homeless in some city. it would use its changing abilities to help it survive and when this was discovered by some of the shadier ppl in the area they would basically commission it to steal shit. it used some random tabaxi nobles face to steal most of the time and when it was finally caught (bbygirl put up a Fight) it was sent to a criminals-as-fighters gladiator ring and that’s pretty traumatic so it’s kinda blocked anything from the age of 14 n down (its uh. it’s like 32 or smn now. its only been out for 4 years). it’s ring burned down at one point n it escaped (presumed dead) now it lives in a remote-ish village hunting n baking (art below is it baking) and trying very hard to avoid any of its triggers. it’s so fucked. i love it. i don’t know too much abt the disorders i think it has but in general my idea is it has some hallucinations (psychosis of some flavor?), v frequent nightmares, panic attacks, and definitely ptsd (or would it be cptsd for fucking. whatever 14 years in a gladiator ring does to you?)

TOMMY !!! (he/him) ngl main thing i like abt tommy is his design :3 i just really wanted a kidcore character yknow? and then i gave him Issues And Problems. of course. so he’s a silly little guy with Hella Abandonment Issues. he wears bright colors partly bc he yknow. does actually like em. but also bc in his mind if you’re dressed in bright colors and patterns and accessories, they’ll always be able to see you, and can’t leave you behind. well. not by accident at least. and doesn’t that hurt the most? when you’ve done all you can to stay by their side, to make sure they can never lose you unless they try, and yet you are once again left behind, feeling like that little kid at the grocery store when your parents forgot you, forever. one of these days they’ll keep you around. you hope. (also, tho this isn’t really canon per se, i played a oneshot using him and the premise was we’d all died and were sent to some fucked up afterworld, and we had to figure out How we’d died and i went fuck it he killed himself. anyway !!!!)

REMI !!!! (aka remnants of history !!!!) (he/she) my other dnd character i made and then just. didn’t. do anything with. remi is v strong and not very smart, and really really REALLY wants to be an archaeologist. she wants it so bad. main reason is he wants to be known for Something. making a historical breakthrough? that sounds like a good way to do that! protecting people (shes technically a paladin. no idea what god she’d serve tho)? also a good way! she just wants to be known for something. he was never exactly singled out (for good or bad) at home, and now that he’s out in The Real World he wants to make up for that lack of attention. he just needs Someone.

NERI CALLISIAN!!! (they/he/it) neri is my silly little mc smp character who is a siren (based on ghost/ribbon eels appearance-wise, based loosely on eels as a whole in terms of abilities/disabilities). he likes birds and animals and such a Lot and has made a little aviary where he keeps all his birds :) he also enjoys exploring a lot. in siren terms it’s the equivalent of a lil guy who is fresh out of college or smn. left their school (lived in semi brackish waters all its life) and went up the river to explore. they’re a bit lonely but befriended a local witch and their pixie friend and they drag the two on lil adventures :3 neri is yellow/blue colorblind and really should have glasses but their entire school has fucked up blurry vision so they think everyone’s like that (theyre not). also neri, due to being a siren, has an affinity for singing and also generally just likes it so when out n about he’ll just be humming and such and animals will go O^O ? OwO !! and follow him. the pics are neri vibing w a duck and then also i put it thru a filter that supposedly simulates yellow-blue colorblindness :3

BLANK !!!!! (they/them) oughhhhhb blakn,,,,,,, one of my first like. storied ocs (got one hell of a revamp in like 2022) and i love them so much. so blank is a lil guy who i originally made for camp cgp, an event that the crankgameplays discord server held every (northern hemisphere) summer. it was v cool and i had a blast ngl, 10/10 for that first year. got scared the subsequent ones tho n left. blank was a part of. well. camp blank, one of the sub camps in Camp CGP, which we basically turned into the cryptic, lost, haunted camp full of fucked up cryptids n creatures. blank, like everyone else, used to be human. that was before they got a little too close to the signs that said to stay away. once you start to hear the static, it’s too late. he’s got you. and you are sure as hell not getting back out. you become morphed. corrupted. you can’t go in the sun; it hurts too much, the ashen tears trailing down your cheeks begin to burn anew. the night is when you feel alive again. for the most part, blank is a merciful ruler. bonfires, chants, feasts… the fun activities you’d expect at a summer camp are fairly common. there’s a lake nearby. sometimes you all go night swimming. the gongoozler sometimes comes up to play with you all. it can be lovely. but then, someone will get too jumpy, too homesick, too bored, too something, and they’ll try to run, and you will never see them again. that is, provided you ignore the fresh new roast at the next weeks feast. the static hurts your ears sometimes. you feel a little lost every so often when you realise you can’t see. you used to be able to. you have to force yourself to stay. you know the consequences of fleeing. it’s better to stay. it’s better to stay. it’s better to stay. stay in the static, in the moonlight, in the cheerful (sometimes too cheerful) voices rising high in the night. in the morning you will go to sleep and you will dream of going home and you will wake up and know you cannot. never. you are trapped, forever stuck in this hellish limbo.

SO. there are. two ways to assign the prime defenders powers etc. the first way is just, like, categorize their existing powersets within the prt framework, & the second is to give them entirely new abilities based on the way worm works. delightfully, all the powers they Do have work really well for the most part, so even that doesn't require a ton of shuffling.

categorizing their pre-existing powers:

wiwi-- breaker w/ a shaker subclass. neither of them rated very high, but that's already a rare and versatile enough combination!!

dakota-- brute babeeeey!!! brute/mover its so straightforward. hell yeah babey. i don't know what he'll end up looking like post-heart removal & stuff but my guess is that'll end up looking more like a mover/striker.

vyncent-- now THIS one gave me trouble. i... hm. to say this without talking about stuff that i don't think has come up much already, (hey!! you're at that clockblocker pov! directly related to what flechette says!) i'd call him a grab-bag cape, irt the greats at least. post-greats-- again, i don't know what his powerset will look like after this arc! but if he's going all in w/ the fire magic, that would for sure be some striker shit! :]]]

wiwi still breaker for sure, maybe breaker-master, maybe master-stranger. yknow. powers are fluid, the prt categories are pretty rigid. i... don't know. enough about his situation yet to be clearer than that vague idea yet-- i really like the idea of him just. ditching his body & using a noncorporeal form but he still has to keep an eye on his body i think that's great. the noncorporeal form would b able to change its visibility but still b limited by proximity to the body. & fluctuating energy shit powered by fluctuating amounts of recent-death in the area, maybe probably also limited in that it's only accessible in his breaker form.... also i think u will appreciate this style note from the [UNNAMED PARAHUMANS TTRPG] i'm referencing a lot here.

dakota--in this situation he probably would not. have that mechanical heart and shit. he' would still be a mover/thinker-- thinker rating is for faster mental processing + senses imminent pain for the people in his immediate vicinity. not danger, just pain; it immediately registers ambiently & can be generally traced back to whoever it is. no he can't turn it off ever, it manifests as feeling a similar level of pain, yes it works on himself. + mover-- he can fucking fly. no super strength, just very fast flight & the general "won't splat himself flying into something" capabilities, which meshes well w/ the faster processing & reflexes. i'm split on how exactly this would work mechanically but i will NOT go into that now. i am also not going into the 15k discussion in my brain on why dakota 'notoriously bad at thinking about things' cole would be a thinker but u gotta trust the process ok??

vyncent-- trump!!!! somehow this is the only straightforward one to me? he can copy powers at the full strength or ability level of the original for an unspecified amount of time that's usually 1-30 minutes by touching the cape. crucially, he doesn't have any edge on how to use these powers + can easily misuse or become extremely overwhelmed by them. he's easily the most powerful out of the three of them <33

ashe-- ashe is NOT HERE currently and also it's 1:30 am so i gotta go fucking sleep soon BUT they would be a master. easy. :o) they can make some lil guys n do stuff with them!!!!

BACK ON TOPIC NOW. to DAKOTA . assuming his trigger event is still he and katori falling off the building I think it's AWESOME that his powers would manifest as FLIGHT for one. and the fucking. pain sense thing. fuck me up. dakota extreme hero complex cole would be so fucked up by a power where he ambiently senses pain from the people around him at all times and cannot turn it off. AAAASHE ASHE ASHE IM SOOO SO GLAD YOU INCLUDED ASHE IN THIS I miss him.so much every day. from what I know so far master involves having/making/controlling some sort of minion (cannot think of a better word than that rn) AND I THINK THATS REALLYYYY perfect for ashe. i assume he would actually work pretty closely to canon in that his limitation would be the book? or if he doesn't have the book maybe his limitation would be a) having only a few different types of things he could summon (the big hand, the water fairy, duck etc) and/or b) only being able to control them.for a short amount of time after they're summoned so he has to be quick about dismissing them. can't keep the demon hand around for too long or it might start picking things up and throwing them at random. putting teammates in danger bc he can't control it anymore etc etc. alsooooooo in clockblocker pov they VERY briefly mentioned the possibility of having secondary trigger events (?!!!!?!?!) and you know I locked onto that SO FUCKING HARD. ashe being born with powers and then his secondary trigger event being his mom's death <3 im.NOT even going to attempt to talk about how the trickster would work in worm world/if it would even exist in this setting bc i don't know enough about the types of powers and things yet..but just know. okay so first of all, i would like to let everyone know that i have been listening to classical, or in some way medieval/classical coded songs including Cendrillon, Servant of Evil, and Karakuri Peirrot (clowns) so this shit gonna go hard as fuck and ALSO TSUKASA TENMA

anyways. btw tsukasa's story is kind of based off servant of evil so

tsukasa and saki live together in the castle and are used as a sort of puppet for a shadow gov't. tsukasa believes that he and saki aren't related but saki knows. so the plot is to use saki as a sort of scapegoat to collect more resources from the people and eventually dispose of her when they don't need her by posing a rebellion. tsukasa overhears them plotting this the night before and tries to evacuate saki. he does this (yippee !!!) but the advisors (which are the people coming up w the plot) catch on. they present him as the one who was actually raising all the taxes, clearing saki's name but dirtying his in the process. also he learns they were siblings. in some sort of pirates of the caribean fashion, he escapes the day of his execution. i'm talkin bro JUST avoids that axe and sword fights some people.

so tsukasa gets the hell out of york. and bro has some major trauma at this point yknow. he's trying to hide out and figure out what the hell he's supposed to do next, because he's by all accounts supposed to be dead, and WHERE THE FUCK IS SAKI ??? and. bro accidentally summons mystical being Hatsune Miku. i have this in my mind as he's hiding out in the bushes, and bro is just. so done. he's camping out for the night and he's at like the breaking point. and he goes through the couple of things he still has (which is really not much) and breaks out a little heart shaped locket he has. and it's a picture of him and saki and he's looking at it and it HURTS because he misses her !!! and as soon as he learns that they're siblings ans that's his fucking sister she gets !!! taken away from him !!! and tsukasa just breaks down. just sobs man. and he's curled up and sad and he feels this tap on his shoulder and it's just "this is the end. someone found me i'm going to die." and he's about ready to because everything he lived for has been taken away from him !! and he looks over hsi shoulder and it's not a guard it's Hatsune fucking Miku, who is a god because why wouldn't she be.

n miku like. leaves him w wxs miku like "here's your guardian angel or shit ykyk. anyways gotta blast your god's favorite BYE !!!" and now he sees that along w his little heart locket of saki he now has a star shaped locket and when he opens it he can summon wxs miku. like she's a jojo stand. so he's still traveling and trying to stay undercover and bro kind of looks like shit. but he also knows he needs food because HOO BOY he's hungry. so he does the normal thing and starts going through people's trash bins. and he gets to The House That Probably Gives Out Full Sized Candy Bars (or the fantasy equivalent of that) and starts going through the trash and who walks out to see him but emu ! and she drags him inside and the ootori household is like "why the hell is this dirty stinky man who looks like he just crawled out of hell sitting at our dinner table ???" but they listen to him and he tells them that he's an experienced adventurer [lie] and he's out adventuring [lie]. and so they let him get cleaned up, he realizes his hair has grown out a bit, and they send emu along w him when he leaves. like. he's about to walk out of the door and say his thank yous before emu just starts dragging him along in the silliest way possible.

so emu and tsukasa hit the road !! yippee !! tsukasa's like spending the whole time a lil scared like "WHAT IF SOMEONE FINDS ME" and emu is just havin a good time. it turns out emu is a quirked up wizard girl and sends little letters to her family. and eventually she asks tsukasa about the locket n he shows her miku. yippee !! they also make money by running errands for other people. so they're runnin around the world and tsukasa is still trying to find saki AND stay as far away from people as possible. i'm talkin bro barely talks to the people he's workin w emu does all that shit.

so THEN they find this old ass tower and emu's like "let's sleep here tsukasa :D :D :D" and tsukasa's like "i would rather FUCKING DIE but okay. whatever." so they go in and spring like five different traps at once because those two are talented in being silly. and YOULL NEVER GUESS WHO rui comes out to investigate the two clowns he caught. and he's like "who the hell are you." as any normal person would question.

but of course he cannot resist the sillies and he's like "okay you can stay." and he shows them around and i'm taklin bro has the kookiest room imaginable got that clock hallway gears everywhere n shit you know how it is. and he tells them that he's an alchemist + cool mechanic guy. and emu is just falling in LOVE with his little robots. honestly who wouldn't i think they would be cute

and of course rui, magic man extraordinaire, senses the power of Hatsune Miku comin from the locket and he's like "lemme see that locket" and BAZOINGA !!! HATSUNE MIKU !!!

and while emu didn't know miku bc she was kind of like. a local thing. rui recognizes her IMMEDIATELY it's like if you were idk atheist or smth and Allah just appeared from your friend's neat rock he found. idk man i'm trying to draw a comparison. but the thing is while emu knows that there's some prince who's supposed to be dead from the country over, rui doesn't know that because he's a shut in. so they're both kind of missing information n neither of them can come to the conclusion that tsukasa is wanted for misuse of power tax fraud and tyranny. so rui's trying to figure out miku and emu's just happy she has friends and tsukasa is just havin a good time. they have a little sleepover thing in rui's room because normal.

rui being the first person either of them have really connected with in a while, they all hang out for a while longer have some fun you know. and then nene comes back !!! basically nene is a shapeshifter who usually shapeshifts into shadows because yeah. neato. and she also will go out for a while to make some money by selling rui's stuff. and she hears stuff and at this point word has really gotten around that people are looking for tsukasa !! there's a bounty on bro's head !!!

so she comes inside n only sees rui and he's about to tell her about tsukasa and emu but then she tells him first that theres a dangerous guy running around who is wanted !! and not in the good way !! and rui connects the dots and goes into Thinking Mode. and as soon as nene finishes this who comes into the room but Mr. FUCKING WAR CRIME HIMSELF !!!

so so rui emu and nene are all validly concerned about this and tsukasa's like "okay. listen to this. miku get over her" and tells them all about saki and evil shadow gov and almost dying and how he needs to keep looking for her. and miku clearly knows this but she does it in the silliest way bc tsukasa's over here sobbing his eyes out about his possibly dead sister and she's like "yeah !!! and THEN he almost died !!! isn't that wild !?!?!"

and yknow eventually they come around n clear his name or whatever and do some crazy theatre production. idk man ive been writing this forever eeby deeby yaba daba doo

If it's talking about favorite Pokemon you want, talking about favorite Pokemon you shall receive!! My favorite Pokemon is zorua. The very first game I played was Pokemon Ultra Sun, and when I found a zorua by the trainer's school, I caught him in a premier ball and named him "LL" because I wasn't familiar with the controls yet and thought that the enter button was the backspace button. When I did get the chance to rename him, I dubbed him "King" and he became my ace. I named my festival plaza after him. I soloed Ultra Necrozma with him. We beat the elite four first try together, and I couldn't be happier. I pet him and fed him constantly, so his affection was MAXED and it made him so overpowered in battles. The amount of times this guy survived a hit on one hp? I can't even count. I reset that file, but King has always had a very special place in my heart. I got a zorua plushie for my birthday last year, it is SO big and SO fluffy and I love it so much (my mom named it "zorunia" which is actually kinda cute!!) And I think the ultimate homage to this Pokemon is the fact that I named myself after it! I go by Zoru (it used to be Zorua until my friend sent a typo without the a and I fell in love with it) and it just feels so special to carry around that sort of love for a Pokemon in something like my name :)

I gotta be honest I am such a sucker for a classic ‘edgy dark mammal’ kinda Pokémon, yknow, like the kinds of Pokémon that you know some emo middle schooler would obsess over, and Zorua definitely falls into that category for me (which I say with so much affection).

For me, the first Pokémon game I played was Pokémon Y, so my first Pokémon ever was Fennekin! I don’t think I ever named them but they were very special to me :)) From that point on, I was always fiercely loyal to the fire type starters, lmao.

hmmm i dont think i have any super unpopular opinions abt video games? i'll give u a three part ramble response tho on three different fronts:

most of my dislikes is just personal (like i dont get how ppl are really into stardew it just seems like smthn thatd get boring to me super quickly i hate games that really need a routine and if ur looking at it from the bachelor/bachelorette side also it seems. lackluster theyre all boring basic milquetoast white ppl except for like 2 characters) (or me not liking shooters or team games in general mainly bc im bad at aiming but i feel like ppl playig those games tend to be too high strung and a lil annoying which makes me more anxious/a worse aim)

idk if this one is unpopular either but i dont get the whole clover/alice ship for vlr. like are they close? yeah anyone could see that but i dont think theres any romance to it. i think alice is in a position where shes got too much heart for her job though. having clover do such high stakes missions where shes in danger a lot probably takes agood toll on her but i think thats from the position of her not wanting anyone else and their families to have to go through the struggle she had to with her father and she knows clover has been through the game before and that she has her brother to think about. i also think clover just does admire alice and see her as a companion but more like a mentor than a romantic partner yknow? i mean also ppl can just ship what they want it doesnt have to have a long drawn out reason but to me its just like w/e.

one i KNOW i get teased at a bit for is liking visual novels over other types of game and like. sure w/e im playing a power point we get it. but having the visual with you when engaging with a story makes it hit a lot harder! its not like a show or a movie where you just watch it unfold and cant take it at your own pace vis novels put you in the drivers seat and allow you to experience the story while it unfolds! it lets you make choices and see where you end up! ill even include dating sims in this bc trust me i know theres a ton of lackluster bottom-of-the-barrel sims but i think u have to play a few of those to really appreciate how hard a good one can hit you

As he walked across the street, he couldn't quite escape the feeling that he was being watched. He turned down a corner, breaking into a light jog whilst thinking to himself

He turned to look behind him, and saw somebody he could've sworn he'd seen already behind him, going just fast enough to keep him in view. Panicking more, he began to look around as he jogged, trying to find someone, anybody he even vaguely knew, but to no avail. As he turned down another alley and got to the end, he realised with a drop in his stomach that it was a dead end, and behind him was the very same person, their face still hidden by a hoodie. He frantically looked around for something he could use to protect himself, but once again to no avail. In a panic he began to shout at the figure, telling them to leave him the hell alone and get lost, when suddenly they drew a knife, and his heart stopped in his chest.

"P-please don't kill me, I'll do anything!"

The figure ignored him, and kept slowly walking towards him. Right when they were almost in stabbing range, he whimpered

"Now I won't even get to know who Allie's kid's father is.."

The second he said that, the person stopped in their tracks, staring at him.

"....What the hell did you just say?"

He gulped, then mumbled

"W-well, my friend Allie had a kid recently, a-and a few guys are claiming to be the father, but t-the worst part is t-that she's married.."

They let out an extremely faint gasp, then glared at him a bit before saying

"....Well- how many guys?"

By now he was confused himself, why hadn't they killed him already? But, he thought it'd be better to buy some time, maybe somebody'd come down here.

"About five right now, but it was three yesterday so who knows if there's more."

".....Who do you think it was."

".....uhhM- if it isn't her husband, I'd say this dude called Ronnie, pretty tall and if I do say so myself quite handsome, buttt he's a bit of an ass so that's a dealbreaker to me."

The figure groaned, and put a hand on their forehead

"God, I hate it when you meet somebody like that."

"Right?? Hey- uh- Wanna hear more, or.. are you gonna.. y-yknow, kill me..?"

They seemed to ponder the options for a moment, before taking their hood off, revealing a woman with short, spikey blonde hair, and a grin on her face.

"...I kinda wanna know more about this to be honest."

"Uh... oookay then? Dya wanna stay in this alley, or go somewhere comfier?"

"Ehhhhhhh... I have some cold pizza and slightly warm takeout back at my apartment."

He gestured back to the road, a slight grin on his face as he said

She nodded slightly, then began to walk, but not before saying

"Dana."

A couple hours later, and they were in Dana's apartment, enjoying some microwaved takeout and gossip

"Okayokayokay, so then he said that he was only going out with ME to make another guy jealous!"

He said, still a bit pissed about that time. Meanwhile Dana looked utterly shocked, and whilst having a bite of pizza she said

"He shounds liyk a real peice of work"

Max nodded sagely, and took another slice before saying

"He definitely was, but don't even get me started on this girl I went out with after, It's a long story, and includes more bodyglitter and katanas then you'd expect."

She looked at him for a bit, trying to figure out if he was lying or not before shrugging, and asking

"Seriously dude, have you gone out with anybody sane?"

He grinned a bit, and said

"OH yea course! Forrr example the guy I'm going out with right now, Liang. He's the whole package if you ask me, infact right now he's preparing a dinner date at his pla-"

His eyes went as wide as plates as he frantically checked his watch, gasping as he yelped out

"sHIT- I'VE GOTTA BE THERE IN TWENTY MINUTES!"

Dana stared at him for a moment, eyes almost as wide as his, then shouted

"WELL GO THEN YOU IDIOT!!!!"

He nodded, and sped for his jumper, then put his shoes on at what was surely world record pace, and right when he was about to run out the door, he froze.

"Hey, Dana?"

"Yeees?"

He turned a bit, and nervously asked her

"W-were you actually gonna kill me?"

She paused, then broke into laughter, only stopping when he did not look in the slightest amused.

"Nahh dude, I was never actually gonna kill you. It was a stupid dare from my girlfriend, I had to scare the crap outta a stranger on the street, at MOST I would've conked you on the head a bit.

He let out a big sigh of relief, and smiled at her.

"Well that's.. good. Uh- let's try and catch up a bit next week maybe?"

"Sounds good, aslong as you bring something extraordinary unhealthy and supersized."

She broke out in laughter again, taking a few deep breaths before telling him

"You got yourself a deal, I still wanna know about Allie and the mystery father."

He grinned, and gave a small salute as he walked out her apartment as she copied him, then shouted out

"SEEYA, SCAREDY PANTS."

He laughed, then shouted out to her

Reblogging with some meatless meals in response to our chat in the comments! I'm not much of a nutrition nerd so I have no idea how balanced my food is but hey, I'm still alive I have to be doing something right :p I do use a lot of cheese and butter when I'm not cooking for the vegan roomie, because it's delicious. I also tend more toward one-pot-meals, because I don't really have the space for more pots n pans.

Since you mentioned eating gluten-free I'm picking things that can be made as such! I'm writing the recipes down very roughly but if anyone wants more detailed step-by-steps, let me know. I measure with my heart but I can write shit down if I must x)

Gorgonzola Pasta. Really easy one, subtitute gorgonzola with any strong blue cheese of your choice (I've been making it with bleu d'auvergne bc it is very cheap in fall). Pasta sauce is just one shallot, fried in butter until it's glassy, then a cup of cream and as much blue cheese as your heart desires, melted into the cream. Add pepper, salt, nutmeg to taste. Serve w a salad.

Minestone-ish. My go-to fall/winter soup, it's delicious, it's hearty, it fills your heart with joy and soup. This is basically a minestone except the Italians would shoot me on sight for saying so. Ingredience: as many root vegetables as you can get your hands onto but at least four different ones (no beetroot, too sweet), leek or onion, garlic, splash of white wine, can of tomato. Spices of choice but i usually use clove, rosemary, garlic, bay leaf. Fry all your vegetables in butter or oil, glaze with white wine, add a can of tomato and enough water to cover your veggies plus some. Bring to a boil and let simmer for half an hour. If you're feeding an army, you can also add a can of beans and/or noodles towards the end. Serve with grated parmigiano for decadence.

Shakshouka. I know it, you know it, spicy tomato sauce with eggs stays winning. I usually beef mine up with potatoes and carrots (dice and boil in the sauce) and serve with couscous, rice or pasta.

Red or yellow thai curry. My go-to gluten-free, vegan recipe. I make yellow curry with potatoes, peas, carrots, canned lychee if I have them. Red one I usually make with more summer-y vegetables like zucchini and bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, whatever, but I'll also toss carrots or potatoes in there. I use ready-bought curry paste because I am not insane enough to make my own, and I spice it up with fresh ginger, garlic, peppers and generous amounts of soy sauce. I'll also use fish or oyster sauce if I'm not making it veggie, but yknow :p Very filling, very creamy, 10/10 everybody loves curry. Serve with sticky rice.

Mushroom or tomato risotto. I make mushroom risotto if I have nice mushrooms, otherwise tomato. The latter is made with dried tomatoes, lots of garlic, lots of parmigiano. Pine nuts if you can get em for a reasonable price. Very nice with a leafy salad side, with a good strong vinaigrette with balsamico and mustard.

Pumpkin soup. Diced pumpkin and onions, fried in butter or olive oil. Top off with water and vegetable soup stock, bring to a boil. Puree when the pumpkin is soft, add a can of coconut cream, heat again for a few minutes. Spice with either pumpkin spice mix, or yellow curry paste, or garam masala. I kinda spice this one different every time. It's very creamy and sweet so I like to give it a kick with chili, too.

Caponata. Really nice for summer. I'm linking the wikipedia article for that one but you can find recipes online, just make sure yours has aubergine, capers, olives and balsamico. I like to sweeten mine with honey, too. Typically eaten with bread, probably works as a pasta sauce too. Also an excellent side-dish, though a bit labor intensive as a side for me.

Stir fry with whatever the fuck you want. Also one of my go-to for when I have to feed people with food restrictions because you can just toss whatever vegetable you want into a stir fry, you just gotta know your cooking times. Green beans, carrots, bell peppers, zucchini, aubergines, pumpkin, leafy greens, leeks, you name it, you take it. Anything that fries fast is game. I usually beef it up with smoked tofu, which you can marinate before, and should toss into the wok first because you want to fry it nice and crispy. Also add a fried egg on top. Also serve with rice. I really like making my stir-fry with szechuan pepper as my main spice because I'm a sucker for it, but you can also go as simple of weird as you want on this one.

Fried rice. That one takes a little bit of forethought because ideally you need to let your rice sit for a few hours before frying it. Otherwise, pretty easy and very satisfying. I usually put in carrots, onions, spring onions, garlic, ginger, sambal, sesame oil, and unreasonable amounts of egg in mine. I also use shrimp paste if I'm not feeding vegetarians, and sometimes substitute with mushroom sauce or vegetable stock if I got veggie eaters. It is punchier with shrimp paste.

Menus, Oct. 23-30

Several people were open to seeing my menu planning, and it's something I enjoy doing well, so here we go!

Notes: My dishes can all be gluten free (they are, for us) by using gf pasta (we like Rummo brand gf noodles and Tinkyada are good too). Otherwise, we're pretty generally low carb and most things are from scratch, but typically pretty simple. Most of these rely on root vegetables or beans for their carbohydrates.

Feta tomato pasta and sausage --This was viral on Instagram a while back, and I decided to try it. Now my daughter requests it pretty often. I don't make it quite like the original--mostly, I add some zucchini, double the feta, and add a bunch of Italian seasoning. This link is pretty much the same thing. They add shallots, which does sound lovely but costs a bit extra. I cooked some sausage with the meal because I didn't want to load up on pasta, personally, as I'm still staying very low carb.

"Bowl of the Wife of Kit Carson"--modified caldo tlalpeño--Pity poor Maria Carson, whose indigenous name I can't even learn, now remembered by her husband's name. That aside, it's a family favorite. We make it with the entire can of chiles in adobo, but that's a family preference. The avocados are pretty much the vegetable in this one so uhh...have plenty. I make the rice separate, both because that way you can vary it depending on your spice tolerance and because that way the rice doesn't suck up all the soup for leftovers.

Roast whole chicken, roasted mixed root vegetables, and garlicky kale. I basted the chicken with avocado oil (expensive but healthy; feel free to sub cheaper vegetable oil), seasoned it with a Penzey's mix I like called Ozark Seasoning, and stuffed it with rosemary, onions, and garlic. The root vegetables can be whatever; mine were yellow beets (slightly less "earthy" tasting than red, which might be more appealing to some), rutabaga, and carrots. Salt, pepper, and garlic powder is enough, seasoning-wise. And the kale, I blanch and then saute with a LOT of garlic.

Garlic parmesan white beans, brussels sprouts, and Gujerati carrot salad. I've not made the beans yet; they'll be a new dish for us. Sound great, though, and I'm trying to learn more meatless dishes generally and bean dishes specifically. We like to halve or quarter our brussels sprouts, depending on size, steam them, and then eat them with sour cream. And the carrot salad is a longstanding family favorite, which I got from my well worn copy of Madhur Jaffrey's Indian Cooking. This is almost the same recipe, but I don't add cayenne, and I wouldn't use olive oil, since it has such a low smoke point. I'd use peanut or canola or something. It's not spicy or "exotic" tasting, and it's been well-received at potlucks.

Pot Roast. There's no point giving a recipe for this one; just pick one that looks good to you. Just include lots of good veggies. I like carrots, onions, potatoes, and parsnips. It's fun to add a bag of frozen pearl onions, and I like frozen peas put in at the very end of cooking.

Tuna salad. I eat it over lettuce, the others eat it as a sandwich. Dinner for a tired night. My tuna salad is made with well-drained chunk light (in water), finely diced celery, finely diced green salad olives, salt, pepper, and mayo to bind. My family really likes the olives so I go heavy and also use a little of the jar liquid as a salt stand-in.

Deviled eggs and raw veggies with hummus. Another phone-in meal, or it would be if I didn't find making deviled eggs such a hassle. We all love them, but I have some inexplicable personal antipathy for how long they take to make. ANYWAY, my deviled eggs are the bestest, and you will not think so if you eat yours southern-style with (shudder) "salad dressing" instead of mayo, or sweet relish. No, mine are made with salt, pepper, mayo, and lots of finely minced green salad olives, and topped with paprika, preferably sharp paprika.

Pork tenderloin, frozen corn, and stewed apples and quince. Aren't we just POSH? Jacob got me a quince to try at the farmer's market. It's uh...well pretty much I guess it's like a rock-hard and fairly tart apple, with the granular texture of an Asian pear. They're generally eaten cooked, which is why I decided to stew it mixed with apples. So I just sliced the apples and the quince up fine (just leave out the quince if you don't have it which you probably don't, and maybe add a dash of lemon juice instead), simmered them in a couple tablespoons of apple cider (or juice; we had cider), and threw in a teaspoon of pie seasoning, a fistful of dried cranberries (the recipe called for raisins) and very approximately a tablespoon of allulose syrup. Obviously you could just use sugar instead. I topped mine with pecans and it was so so good. Oh, and also the pork: Usually two tenderloins come in a pack of tenderloins, so I put a different seasoning on each just for fun. Various blends. Lemon pepper and Montreal Steak Seasoning are favorites, but tonight I opened an unlabeled container in the pantry and discovered that it was rosemary salt the bestie made and left here, so I mashed it up with some garlic and put that on one, and did bbq rub on the other. The frozen corn....is frozen corn. Except, you know, microwaved.

chapter 12 is a mixed bag.

it starts with a somewhat solid section about mental health, with a minor degree of potentially toxic positivity and an assumption of significant emotional labor on the patient's part, but also support of boundaries, self-care, and pruning shitty unsupportive relationships. although I personally believe that holding people to account that were just doing their best as they were taught and failing hundreds of people along the way is entirely reasonable and healthy and will not be "letting go" thank you.

the short section on preparedness (as a balm for anxiety) also seems pretty solid, although the travel subsection only discusses air travel.

the trigger assessment list is kinda mixed, with stuff like "is it unaesthetically pleasing?" and a lot of "consider more natural options" but for people who are not used to doing systemic or hunt-and-eliminate searches for triggers I imagine it may be helpful.

obviously the section on detoxification is stupid. the section on exercise is pretty solid though, and strongly encourages holding off until after a stable baseline is established and setting goals in relation to where the patient is already at with intentional accommodation for bad days, although a couple of the quacks do briefly poke their heads in. (even the bit about yoga is quite even-handed!) it's interesting to me that the recommended example breathing exercise is a 3 count cycle instead of the absolutely nuts fucking 8 count I was taught that I hate and just makes me feel worse instantly even though I've got singer lungs. (both of these are in-hold-out for x count. personally I prefer an in-out 4 count that's counted to my heart rate.)

the quackery gets more obvious in the "neuropsychological treatment options" section when it's suggested that oh mcas might actually be due to a trauma association with the trigger no shut up fuck you. there's some dumb shit in the mindset section too, like that's a surprise.

the emotional healing exercises section on the other hand is like. remarkably good? god knows most people fuck up those types of recommendations, but honestly she does a really good job with a wide net for what counts as self care and an awareness of the barriers in place especially for sick folks. even the mindfulness suggestions are not just not irritating but sometimes actively good. there's a very strong emphasis when talking about outreach that if it's adding to stress or burdens it's a bad choice and you gotta loop back to the self care part. and then we get the joy vs happiness ennobling through suffering wankery right after of course.

also interesting that apparently the woo-woo naturopaths define grounding entirely differently from the field of psychology. she means literally touching the physical earth ground. (which, to be fair, is also quite grounding in the more common sense as well. altho of course that's not why it's being suggested. it's some more bullshit about emfs. with one study cited saying it was connected to improvements in aging lmao)

the rest of it is fine, good that financial and accessibility considerations are addressed directly as well as the other times they've been mentioned/acknowledged. although it does feel a little dodgy how often she hammers on about not wrapping up your whole identity in the disease. like, getting a little "person with a disability" there babe. indicates a strong disconnect with the disabled community yknow. we do love to see that the "fantastic blog resource that discusses the connection between autism spectrum disorders and mcas" is now a dead link tho. rest in pieces I bet you were allistic anyway. (that's why I even checked, cuz. yknow. have yet to see an autistic person acknowledged as a human with thoughts yet.)

so, a chapter that takes some significant pruning, but overall still Actually Useful. and now it's done and I can put it away for the move.

(also apparently she was working on this book for 2 years, which. it's a big dense book with a lot of research but like, you'd think maybe it would be more cohesive or refined? maybe properly editing would've taken a third year.)
