was thinking about how hua cheng was a violent menace to society pre-3rd ascension - like the rumors weren't wrong or just about the 33 gods, cuz even just in the early reverend of empty words arc as he's going through the list sqx gives xie lian, he's like 'oh no yeah i killed this guy, this guy, this guy, he xuan killed this guy, i killed this one too... ....like they deserved it tho gege. you'd get it if you were there'

and he's always been a little psychotic, like he as a small child survived a whole assault on the battlefield -in front of xie lian, ie didn't just survive by basis of xie lian being so strong- and was like, slaughtering what had to have been grown men. he killed people(and we know he did, he never got the face disease despite coming in direct contact with the first victims and also becoming a nurse) and didn't even seem fazed by it, even while xie lian himself was trembling afterward about having killed people for the first time, 7 years his senior and having grown up with a sword in his hand.

so like. do you guys think he ever gets like that now. like after the honeymoon phase ends and xie lian insists on going back to scrap collecting because he can't just stay idle forever (and we know he still does this given the bedtime story extra), hua cheng starts causing trouble if his gege's not around.

half of me feels like he wouldn't wanna make his gege disappointed in him so he wouldn't get too bad but i can't shake how funny it would be if the heavens have to beg xie lian to take hua cheng with him on scrap collecting trips, like an unruly child that cannot be trusted alone and won't react well to babysitters

And actually, his logic behind this is really interesting. Because at it's heart, the difference is that with Banri, Momo could never have formed the same sort of codependent relationship that he does with Yuki. Banri is capable of taking charge and taking care of himself, and so Momo wouldn't feel the need to step forward and try to help him.

Hell, it's only after he realizes that no one's taking care of Yuki that he reaches out to him in the first place. Momo establishes very well in Re:member that he needs to feel needed and useful to feel loved, or to express his love, and Yuki lets him do that in spades. Banri, though. Banri doesn't need someone to dote on him (or at least so judges Momo) and therefore Momo's acts of service (his declarations of love) are unwarranted at best and unnoticed at worst.

Whether or not this is actually true is a whole separate question. Banri does seem to rely on Momo when he's helping them out backstage (Momo valiantly kills the dreaded spider for him) -- but he does it in a moderate sort of way, taking the time to make sure Momo's not overexerting himself (ie, when he's lugging around more equipment in one trip than he probably ought to be) and that he is generally taking care of himself as much as he's taking care of others.

But Momo seems to want someone who relies on him too heavily. He needs to devote himself fully and completely to another person (perhaps because he feels he can no longer fully devote himself to his own dreams, so he seeks some other outlet, someone else's dream to latch onto to replace that). He gets drawn in by Yuki's sopping wet meow meow nature and the fact that Yuki so clearly needs someone to take care of him, because Yuki is the only one who enables him to express his love in the way he wants to. Needs to, perhaps. Regardless of how (un)healthy that expression and the resulting relationship is.

That's why MomoBan won't work with just each other. That's why they need Yuki to draw them together: Momo needs someone who he can devote his everything to, and Banri can never be that person for him.

Same anon from the OSS post. Not sure if it's a foil or more of a stretch, but Eve and Meta feels like one. With Meta learning to love her children and her days causing chaos while in Apocalypse behind her, while Eve slowly went from loving those same children to wanting to cause chaos instead. Both also ended up massacring a town (Nemu and Toragay respectively), with the aid of their Inheritor abilities used on others.

I don't think they're foils to each other in the series overall but I do think mothy was setting them up that way in the OSS novel proper. Having them interact during Eve's chapter, with Eve decidedly beginning the story as a hero and Meta as a villain, only for their respective positions to sort of swap by the end. The way their personalities clash with each other, and the opposite nature of their romantic relationships (Eve's single-minded devotion to Adam that is ultimately toxic versus Meta's open relationship with Pale that winds up being genuinely loving). And so on.

I don't think them massacring towns really counts towards it, though. The methods they use are vastly different (Eve doesn't use her inheritor ability to kill anyone, she poisons them), Toragay actually has a sizable number of survivors, and frankly it's quite common in the series for villains to engage in mass massacre. Irina is stated to do it regularly, for example. Conchita and her father collectively pretty much wiped out the territory they governed. Riliane killed far more than just a single town. Etc.

The thing about foils is that they aren't just a thing you label characters as if enough of their traits are similar/inversions of each other, it's usually something that the author is doing deliberately (like Irina and Elluka in almost all of their appearances together). I think it's more likely a character is being written as a foil to another if the majority of the "foil-like" traits are in the same shared story rather than in another novel that was released several years later/earlier.

I watched Avengers: Age of Ultron (apart from I skipped some overly long action sequences) and I am not sure so can someone tell me whether or not Tony Stark was the baddy in that film? Because about halfway through I was sure he was but then it was maybe just an evil robot after all and I am confused because either this film was surprisingly subversive or it was about robots hitting each other.
