So this is exactly why I *LOVE* having new players at my table as a GM (for 5e or otherwise). Once a precidence is kinda set, it can be questioned but won't really be moved unless there's extensive discussion (which is really good if you've cultivated a question friendly, cooperative atmosphere for game - it opens up dialogue and creates understanding for why things won't change OR! Gives room for things to be better if they ask a good question or bring up a concern!)

And yes that's hard to do but 10000% worth the work. And there's no one set of rules that kinda makes that happen but it largely does need to be set by the GM. Though that's the thing - the players ahould all agree and enforce those rules too. If everyone agrees to be at session at a certain time and someone is always late then that person needs a talking to about what's going on and how disrespectful it is to everyone else (or an allowance/understanding if they don't get off work before a certain time or something! Maybe see about starting a bit later in those cases - try to work with eachother). In either case it needs talked out and communicated.

The players of the 44 rules thing are just.... Genuinely horrific. Like, is that not your friend? Someone who spent hours if not days creating a world for you to play in and explore? Even if they were just an acquantance is that how you treat people? It's shameful honestly.

A bit anecdotal but I don't think there's a shortage of DMs for 5e by any means - Everyone in one of my two current groups has tried a hand at DMing a bit at this point (some more regularly then others based on comfort level) and had mostly positive experiences with our insulated group (barring a bit of anxiety/stage fright). We started out as complete strangers as well but have been playing together for 2 years now with only one hiccup that we worked through and corrected. I think the issue is that there are bad/toxic players that will almost poison a group and turn new GMs off of running games - and make other players scared to pick up the mantel witnessing it happen. And I think those players are very loudly complaining that no one will run a game for them.

I guess more to the point is; whether you are a player or a GM, the atmosphere of the table you sit at is crafted by each person at the table and letting one person bully and disrespect another regardless of role will always end poorly. Communication is and always will be the key and if someone is called out on bad behavior and doesn't stop then they 100% should be asked to leave.

D&D 5e supposedly has a GM shortage and idk maybe if the player culture of the game didn't treat GMing as a thankless job and the rules of the game as an issue to be fixed by the GM maybe things would be better. Ah well, who knows. Maybe a couple hundred more "we ruined the GM's campaign on purpose" memes will make people enjoy running the game better.

For Penelope to have it all within her grasp but still be unable to relish in getting exactly what/who she's been yearning for for years seems absolutely torturous. She's not perfect, not by a long shot, but our poor girl is trying, she's been trying, the hurt is just too deep and the Bridgertons are a stubborn bunch...

I know, I talk a lot about Colin and his downbadism longing on this page but obviously Penelope is just as guilty. Only she (and the fandom) have had seasons (compared to his weeks) to mull over feelings and feel the feels. Though, I do understand why Colin felt the need to withhold from her physically, this would have been the perfect opportunity for them to talk, to hash out some of this deep hurt, because both of them have some serious explaining to do...

Part two of this

Eddie couldn't get a read on Steve, he wouldn't look at them and seemed withdrawn, arms wrapped around his body as though protecting himself from whatever was going through his head.

Eddie looked over to Toby, the guy who'd agreed to portray exactly how Steve dressed. The man was sweet, but Eddie couldn't force himself to feel for anyone beyond Steve, he was it for Eddie. So why wasn't he taking the bait and being jealous? Did he not like Eddie back? He could have sworn he'd seen and felt the same energy from Steve that he'd felt for him himself. Toby reached over grabbing Eddie's hand and Eddie flinched, curling up into himself in the corner, he looked over to Chrissy and the plan was to a head. She nodded at him once, made a covert gesture to Toby, and he leaned in to Chrissy then whispered angrily just loud enough for everyone to hear.

“What the fuck is your friend's problem? He asked me out, he pursued me and invited me here, why is he acting like a fucking prude.” Toby hissed an angry entitled look on his face.

Chrissy reeled back and smacked him hard, and he grabbed her wrist, before tossing her hand to the side and standing up.

“Fuck this, you clearly asked me out because I look like your friend here.” Toby gestures to Steve, “Word of advice, don't be such a tease just because you can't tell your buddy there that you're in love with him.” He stormed out of the house turning at the last minute and looking at Eddie who was staring at Chrissy. They hadn't discussed this part of the plan, they put him in the spotlight and now Steve knew. How was he supposed to face his Best friend now?
