It's not "evil" to have investments. It's not "evil" to have a 401K, and it's not "evil" to have investments outside of that. It's normal. It's perfectly fine and it's practical if you have the ability to do it.

Are people honestly saying you should NOT use the money you have efficiently? That you should NOT do whatever is in your capability to secure a safe and reliable retirement? That you should, as consequence, work forever until you drop and never take advantage of systems that are meant to provide for you?

This type of thing is entirely non-ethical. Financial investment is NOT tied to the concept of ethical judgement. It is neither morally "good" nor morally "bad." It is a tool you can use for yourself to provide for yourself. This is especially important because no one else is going to do it for you or hold your hand. Most jobs aren't offering retirement, and the ones that do aren't necessarily reliable. You need to look after yourself.

It's entirely your own personal choice if you want to make up the idea that investments are "evil," and therefore create a fake moral high ground to not take care of yourself and to manufacture fake guilt trips for people who are doing that. But the people with sense are going to ignore that, and they're going to have something at the end of the day and you are not.

You are not evil because you have investments or retirement accounts.

Telling poor people that signing up for a 401K makes them evil is not praxis you stupid, stupid motherfucker.

It was Maid Day today yesterday a week ago so I got struck by inspiration to draw the worsties, and it ran away from me into a whole AU where they’re coworkers at a maid cafe. She’s a med student & this is just a part time job, and this is his depression job while he gets his life back together. He needs something he can be workaholic about to forget what it’s like having a personal life and personal issues. He’s actually the accountant, but the new hire janitor (Izutsumi) doesn’t show up for half her shifts and is a sloppy worker, so he gets the extra work of doing her job on top of his because he’s undervalued and overworked. Of course, janitors also have an uniform to keep the aesthetic cohesion as they go about cleaning the place, of course.

Senshi’s the part time cook you only see slivers off, he’s kind and warm when you do see him and have a chat but most shifts he’s in and out the kitchen without a trace. Laios and Falin are regulars because Falin and Marcille are besties & in the same med school, Laios accompanies Falin as she visits her friend at work and gets hooked on the food. Chilchuck has to remind Marcille to work instead of chatting with Falin for an hour, and next thing he knows she’s distracting him from work too. That’s it that’s the AU. Inspired by this idol AU fanart a bit <3

Surely someone must have written the Everlark Gilmore Girls AU right? Because like -

Prim's best friend Rue who Katniss also ends up mothering because that's who she is. Estranged mother Mrs Everdeen who Katniss felt abandoned by but adores Prim. Local fashion designer Cinna who took Katniss in when she first arrived. And then Prim’s father and Katniss’s teenage sweetheart Gale comes back around periodically wanting another chance but doesn’t realise they’ve changed too much to ever be together.

Yes, capitalism is bad. Yes, we should dismantle capitalism. No, capitalism is not the Sole Thing Responsible for every single bad thing that has ever historically happened to anyone.

Ok so I'm out of the habit of rolling with these punches. But I'm quickly remembering that trump's number one game is playing insane mode "good cop, bad cop" with every other political power in the US but especially the democratic party.

He will completely change course in a moment as soon as looks like it might benefit him to do so. He will get everyone to go along on something he swears up and down he will do, and then at the last minute flip to playing his own devil's advocate. He will do all of this at the exact same level of uncompromising forward momentum.

It makes it really hard to tell which things he yells about will actually happen. Which is frustrating and stressful and makes it hard to organize and keep up resistance. This is part of the point, presumably.

It also makes it so sometimes he seems to pull off bizarre tactical maneuvers, or apparently outwit his political opponents. In retrospect once you get past the immediate confusion, it usually looks less like a grand plan, and more like turning on a dime to catch any short-term advantage.

It does mean he doesn't make much forward progress on any coherent political goals, as measured or understood by anyone else. Including, and this is the small silver lining, any of his hangers-on and coattail-riders, many of whom have much more coherent and terrifying political platforms.

Trump himself seems to be motivated by power, attention, and outrage. He is good at doing damage, which counts as power. Many people try to take advantage of this damage blast to their more specific nasty ends, which he is generally on board with. The silver lining, again, is that he turns on most of them at some point, when he sees any benefit in doing so. This isn't much of a comfort to anyone caught up in the damage that does get caused.

Last time, I had to learn not to follow his moves too closely, because that just led to getting caught up in the whirlwind and being stressed and confused. Pick some issues that are your battles and focus on what needs to be done there. When the damage blast is aimed at you, push back on it. When he turns on a dime in some bizarre and flashy way, don't overthink it. Just keep your eyes on what you're trying to get done.

Again, many of his hangers-on have agendas that are terrifying and bear watching closely. But don't get caught up in the shitshow hurricane.

I have to rant about Mr Beasts Amazon show because I just watched a video on it an holy shit, I am so angry.

He's exploiting innocent people. Not just innocent, desperate and vulnerable. He is so disconnected from everything that he can walk around hoards of crying, screaming people lashing out at one another in genuine fury because they are so desperate for money they are willing to do almost anything. Almost every single one of those people needs the money to escape poverty, to retire their parents, to pay for medical bills. And Mr. Beast, who has heralded himself as a beacon of generosity and kindness, is shoving a camera in their faces and broadcasting their most desperate moments to the entire world.

The only silver lining in this mushroom cloud is that there is no possible way a person who isn't braindead could look at this and think that he is anything other than a monster. He isn't a misguided young guy, he's plain evil.

an interesting experience as a person who’s life is consumed with art is trying to explain to my friend who doesn’t enjoy listening to music (yes. music. period.) that I write fanfiction out of the love of my heart. She asked me “do you get paid for it?” And I was like “…no?” And she genuinely couldn’t comprehend that I would spend time pouring attention and love into something with no monetary/tangible reward. She laughed in shock and went “I’d never do that.” I think both of us were in disbelief by the end of the conversation

I find it kind of silly that so many of those "time based life rule" sayings are like ~deep serious guidelines~ of some sort, but then there's that one other Well Known Rule that's just like "hrmm can I eat something off of the ground or not"

I see there's a new post on AO3 on AI and data scraping, the contents of which I would describe as a real mixed bag, and the sheer number of comments on it is activating my self-preservation instincts too much for me to subject myself to reading through them. Instead I'm thinking about how much daylight there is between does or doesn't constitute a TOS violation and what does or doesn't violate community norms, and how AO3 finally rolled out that blocking and muting feature recently, and how I think it would be good, actually, if most people's immediate reaction to seeing a work that announces itself as being the product of generative AI was to mute the user who posted it.

That's my reaction, anyway!
