You pouted, stopping your boyfriend's hand from ruining his strawberry milkshake. The two of you had decided to go on a date at a vintage diner for his day off. Being a Hunting Dog was demanding, and he was often exhausted at the end of the day, so you tried to cherish every moment you could spend together. However, you could never truly relax with him.

You sighed, shoving a french fry dipped in your vanilla milkshake into Tecchou's mouth, cutting off his senseless rambling.

He looked surprised, but his eyes quickly lit up upon tasting the new, delicious food combination. "Oh, this is actually really good...Can I have another one?"

"Sure!" You nodded happily as you fed him another french fry, this time dipping it into his drink. At least it was more socially acceptable now. You watched as he ate the fries, quiet but focused on absorbing the flavor. Getting to treasure these sweet and wholesome moments with the strongest soldier in the Hunting Dogs was what made you fall for Tecchou in the first place, your love for him only growing stronger as you two grew up. "Seriously, though, Tecchou—sometimes I feel like your food taste is just pregnancy cravings..."

You continued to shovel dipped fries in his mouth as you recalled your past memories together, "Remember that one time that you tried to eat a slice of my birthday cake with dirt just because it was chocolate, and they were both brown?" You giggled as you pictured the scene again: you running over to find Tecchou after he'd gone off to your garden, him proudly showing you the "dirt sprinkles" and "moving gummy worms" he'd dug up from the ground to eat with his cake, your shock, and the equally shocked and amused looks on his parents' and the neighbors' faces when you told them the story. You titled your head, staring at your reflection on the bar table's metal countertop. "I don't even know how old we were when that happened. Just that it was when we were still neighbors."

Tecchou grinned, "It was your tenth birthday. I remember you were wearing that cream frilly dress with roses and got it dirty when you came to talk to me in the garden." He looked up and down your figure, noticing your cream and cherry-patterned halter midi dress, "'Kinda looks like what you have on right now. By the way, did I tell you how beautiful you look today?"

Rose dusted your cheeks as you pulled away, flustered and trying to keep your cool. "T-thanks." You looked back towards Tecchou and took in his outfit. Since it was his day off, he'd ditched the maroon uniform for an off-white, short-sleeve linen button-up and tan pants. His shirt was partially unbuttoned at the top, exposing his toned chest and arms and accentuating his layered, dark hair. "You look nice, too." You looked away, embarrassed for momentarily staring so hard, but you were sure the blush was still visible on your cheeks. You couldn't help it—even though you'd known Tecchou for so long and had already been dating for a few years, you felt like you'd never get over the butterflies and puppy love phase. It was probably due to his honest yet silly nature and the disastrous but endearing moments you always spent together. You still went on cute dates all the time—hiking (Tecchou would get you two lost in the woods sometimes...), picnics, and aquariums, so your relationship always felt wholesome and tender even through the hardships of Tecchou's work, just like a plum blossom.

Tecchou whined lowly, missing your touch by his face already. You were too lost in thought to notice the drops of milkshake flowing down your fingers, and Tecchou smiled cheekily. “Your hands are dripping.” He pointed at the one you were feeding him fries with.

You looked down, “Huh? Oh—“ you were about to grab a napkin from the dispenser until you felt your boyfriend firmly pull your hand back to his mouth and lick the sugary drink off your fingers. You yelped and tried to move back, startled by the sudden action. "T-Techhou, i-it's fine—"

"No," He said firmly, keeping his grip on you—there was no way you could break out of the toughest Hunting Dog's hold—"Just stay still." Complying, you blushed as he slowly ran his wet tongue over your sticky fingers, golden eyes intensely staring into your own.

"Mmm...you taste so sweet..." he grumbled into your skin—you secretly prayed he would stop before you started drawing attention as your heartbeat got faster.

"Tecchou—seriously, you're acting strange—!"

He pouted suddenly, lifting his head a bit, "You should be happy, y'know...When I get you pregnant, I'll eat all your weird pregnancy cravings with you."

You shivered at his words as he dipped back down to get the last bits of vanilla milkshake off your fingers, entire body now feeling hot. You were sure he didn't intend for it to come off so suggestive and probably thought it was a cute and innocent thing to say, but you were going crazy inside. Wait, doesn't that also mean he loves me enough to start a family togethe—

The door to the diner slammed open abruptly as three other customers came in, all in matching maroon attire.

"Hey! Tecchou's eating a human!" You recognized the high-pitched voice of Teruko, who was quickly followed by Jouno and Tachihara. The two ran in to see your questionable pose; Tachihara gaped in shock and Jouno looked disgusted, and the intrusion made you almost explode in embarrassment.

Tecchou, however, was completely unbothered, only muttering a "hello" as he looked at his unit who'd cut off his precious time with you.

You pulled your hand away, trying to introduce yourself "H-hi. You must be Tecchou's coworkers...I'm—"

Tachihara gasped, "Right, sorry, we must be interrupting your first date. Let's leave them in peace, guys!" He tried to leave before Teruko stopped him.

"No, Tachihara, we can't leave yet. This poor girl doesn't even know what she's gotten herself into...I mean, Tecchou's got some weird quirks and stuff, right?" Jouno sighed, already sick of the two and wanting to get away from the noisy diner. He could hear Tecchou's heartbeat get faster anxiously as the Hunting Dogs started to taunt you, suggesting that the brunette had strong feelings for you.

Tecchou's grip on you loosened like a sad puppy as Teruko's words hit him, making you notice, "N-no! You're both wrong!" You stammered, catching all four's attention. Tecchou's eyes were gazing into you again, curious as to what you'd say and how you felt about him since by nature you weren't a very expressive person. "This isn't our first date, and Tecchou's not weird!"

His eyes widened, and Teruko fell silent—slightly pissed off that you were challenging her but also shocked at how you were defending the same man who ate boiled eggs with the shells still on.

"He's kind and always makes me laugh, he's strong and protects me from danger, offers to carry and take care of me when I'm tired and sick, and he spends his free days with me even though he feels guilty about not being able to save others! I love him! I love him, and I always have ever since we were neighbors!" You pulled his arm close into your chest and tried to avert your eyes away from the patrons who had all started staring at you. Now, you and your boyfriend were both blushing. And he knew how you felt about him.

Teruko looked at you suspiciously; the Hunting Dogs were all close with each other and didn't disclose much about their pasts, so she wondered what your intentions were with Tecchou, since she didn't recall him ever mentioning you. "Neighbors, you say? And how long have you been friends together for?"

You and Tecchou looked at each other, both equally confused and dumbfounded by the fact that the Hunting Dogs didn't know you'd been dating. "Just 18 years, why?" You both said in unison, smiling and giggling at the coincidence.

Teruko recoiled in surprise, now feeling bad for being so intrusive. Trying to brush off her actions and be nonchalant, she turned her back to the two of you and grabbed the other two men, "Oh, sorry. Sorry for barging in then. We'll see you tomorrow, Tecchou." Jouno sighed again, unimpressed by his superior as Tachihara followed before turning around and smiling,

"Have fun, lovebirds!" You hugged Tecchou, feeling sheepish from the whole encounter and by your loud love confession, and he only hugged you back, strong arms enveloping you into his firm chest.

"Love you..." You mumbled weakly, feeling defeated but also relived to finally be alone together again. He laughed huskily as he planted a kiss on top of your head.

"I love you, too." You poked your head up from his chest to peck his soft lips, tasting a mixture of vanilla and strawberry. He closed his eyes, guiding the back of your head into the kiss more before pulling away and hugging you once more. "Hey, do you think you could feed me more fries? I'm hungry again."

You snickered cutely, nodding as you stayed in his arms a bit longer, thankful to have fallen in love with your childhood best friend.

What are they buying? Lots of clothes. Jewelry. Random things the astral express may (or may not) need. Toys. Probably. Oh and- and lots of gifts. A pile of things. They're sending toys and medical equipment and things to belobog. Probably like a dozen swords to yanqing. More things to the general- none of them know what he likes (save for blade, maybe, and whatever memories df decides to regurgitate.) They're sending gifts to their "friends" from the IPC. They're sending alcohol to boothill- the expensive (and not expensive) kind. They're running out of things to buy and there's still more money. At the end of the day they don't accomplish their goal, but DH gets branded as the biggest spender and most richest VVVIP there.

Wherever they went shopping, he vows to never return there specifically. But it was fun. And everyone is exhausted. Most of all the preceptors, who spent all day justifying the high elders sudden shopping spree.

They also send a ton of vegan candy to bailu now that i think about it.

just to add to one of the last anons, I’ve also seen so many posts talking about the small clips from the travel show teaser saying (example) “it would be so funny to see namjoon and seokjin snorkelling” etc and it just seems only about 2% of army can recognise jimin and jungkook and give them their own space! “Why didn’t X member get to do the travel show?” Well maybe X didn’t want to or had different priorities ??

Jikook clearly wanted to “make some memories” before MS and that seems clear as day, also under the guise of work and making content for whilst they’re serving. It’s the perfect scenario for both of them, esp. as they didn’t know if they would get buddy approved.

Can’t wait for the travel show, and feel lucky that it even exists tbh but online spaces might get toxic and fast, which is truly such a shame and i struggle to understand it. Ahhh yes, I've seen posts and tweets like that too. Honestly the o7ification of jikook is nothing new to any average jikooker. I mean when the clip with the pictures came out many people claimed that the guys on the bike were Jungkook and Tae. I don't remember anyone o7ifying the show Tae did with his friends, who have nothing to do with the fandom, for example. I definitely don't remember them questioning or lamenting or asking why other members weren't in it. Funny, isn't it? The problem seems to be when it comes to Jimin and Jungkook alone. Same with the dance show hobi did. Everyone understood that it was something they wanted to do with other people but that understanding doesn’t apply to jikook . It just doesn't make sense. If jikook is not real. If we are crazy, why are they always so pressed about it?

Those seven weeks will be tense in the fandom and as you say, it is preferable to take care of your spaces on social media. For my part, I have this blog so that will be my safe place. I don't follow many twitter accounts so I trust I won't see so much nonsense about it and whoever comes up talking sh!t, I will block them and that's it. No one is going to ruin that show for me.

I hesitate to post this because I know it reads like an ungrateful humblebrag, but...it's funny how when I work on creative projects, I always want a little bit more creative control.

And yet on A Dance of Fire and Ice, a game in which I've been given nearly limitless creative control on the art, characters, lore, story, and presentation (AND has an audience of players who like it)... I don't know what to do and haven't been able to make firm decisions.

There's a few reasons for this I think:

1. I started work on it as a month-long game jam way back in 2015, with limited skills and scrambling to pick what the art direction and theme should be before the deadline.

2. I didn't really understand until now what the structure, format, expectations, and constraints were. I envisioned the game more as an experimental, off-kilter artsy thing. I had intended to give every level a "surreal punchline" kind of like WarioWare. But over time we gave up on that.

I also originally intended the game to not have characters, not have anything resembling character animation or life in it, essentially being a dead and static world. But now I'm trying to undo those old decisions bc it is boring and stale.

If I were working on a visual novel, or card game, or 2D platformer, or TV episode storyboard, I would understand easily what the format and expectations are. There's already an established structure for what those things are. Rhythm game about 2 orbiting circles? A little more open.

If I had known how many years we were going to keep working on the game, I would've set up a guiding pattern for how to create more levels and characters for it. Instead, I only thought of something a few years into the game being out (using Chinese Zodiac animals as the theme.)

3. Because development on the game has been out in the public for about 10 years now, we've changed our mind about a lot of old decisions and now it will take a considerable amount of effort for me to go back and re-do, re-draw, re-establish the art direction and lore.

If you’re unfamiliar with the game, compare this video of a level I worked on in 2015 versus this video of a level I worked on in 2023. 

In the first video, the appearance of a memorial statue of a pig sitting on the throne at the end was supposed to be the “surreal punchline.” The level looks like the ruins of some sort of Jack and the Beanstalk sky kingdom, you’re expected to see maybe a Giant or a human at the end, instead the king was literally a pig.

In the second video you can see that by this time we’ve changed course and decided that all the characters in the game will be animals and robot animals anyway. Now the cast of animals is literally “on the game’s box art.” So there’s no reason for the reveal of a pig statue to be a punchline in the old level.

Also, as you can see, there are now characters that move around the screen, which was something I didn’t intend to do when making the old levels and establishing the “lore” of the worlds all being dead and static.

4. I'm envious of (but happy to see) fan work. Ordinarily this would just be fanart and fan speculation, but because our games have Custom Level Editors, fans can literally "do the job better than I can" and show how they would do it, which have been impressive. I regret the old choices I made.

Maybe it's just a "grass is greener" kind of mentality. It's easy to want more creative control on projects where you don't have it. When you are given a big project and you DO have to make it all up from scratch, you kind of find yourself wishing there was a template or a directive or the path could be laid out for you.

I would put my thoughts on the apology tour here too but I think that will make this post to long so i'm just going to talk about the finale stream itself.

Also this is very unorganized bc I dont really remember how it exactly played out and I could go back and watch the VOD but ion wanna hear wilburs voice so im using the wiki for this therefore I wont have intricate details

One thing I really like is the flashback at the beginning. Especially the fade from L'manburg to the destroyed L'manburg I love it sm it reminds me of Analog horror series

(That part isn't relevant tho that's just me nerding out over analog horror)

They then go to Las Nevadas to try and apologize to Q but get ghosted and im pretty sure it was bc of conflicting schedules or smth but the fact that c!tntduo never got a proper ending pisses me off to this day. LIKE wdym they never interacted ever again??? Wdym if followin the dsmp ending Quackity probably has no memory of c!wilbur??? !?!?!??!?! I rlly just wish they could've gotten some form of closure either from cc!wil or cc!quackity and sure its funny ig that Q canonically ghosted c!wilbur but still??!?!??!?! ugh anyways

Tommys outburst towards wil..."I never used to be this angry" KILLS MEEEEEEEEEEE. Now getting to my criticisms a little bit, I don't like the utah and gas station thing at all. It feels just so random? Out of place even. I would've liked it more if it was just a desert where c!wilbur was from or something

Okay now im going to lay out my main criticisms I have with the finale and why I think it was somewhat unsatisfying and we c!wilbur fans were kinda fucked over in the end

I understand c!wilbur was afraid of losing him or whatever but it would've shown SO MUCH GROWTH FROM HIM IF HE OUTLOUD SAID "Im sorry" TO THE PERSON HE HURT MOST. Im pissed that presumably cc!wilbur decided not to have that happen. Even if it was bad JUST DO IT. c!wilbur was going to leave anyways so him being scared of losing c!tommy if he apologized wouldn't matter!

My next point is that c!wilbur leaving wasn't thought out enough I think. I do personally think c!wilbur should've left the place that ruined him to heal. That's step one of learning to heal but with the apology tour being a flop and him never verbally apologizing to c!tommy it felt unsatisfying and almost underserved and I see why so many people afterward were like "he doesn't just get to leave". What would've helped I think would've been more streams or longer streams if possible. There was so much shit that needed to be retconned but it wasn't given enough time I feel and thats why to so many ppl they were unsatifyed/upset

Going more into the utah shit. I hate it. I hate the "Plot twist" of him being secretly american and from utah. Not even getting into how the real world is now apparently canon to the dsmp in one of the last few dsmp lore streams. I honestly would've liked it more if it wasn't specifically named what the place was instead it was just home. I also had this idea of instead of him disappearing in the middle of the ocean I think it would've been cooler if c!wilbur took a train somewhere almost like a callback to limbo.

I don't like how its somewhat implied c!wilbur killed himself again. It feels cheap to kill of a already heavily suicidal character AGAIN when instead it genuinely could've been a story about how you can learn to heal and forgive yourself even if you did bad things. Maybe this is just me not wanting my favorite character to die but I don't like it at all

Ghostbur was also handled terribly. I understand why alivebur hated him but I also think it would've shown growth if he learned to accept ghostbur in the end. Even if it wasn't fully

Also why the fuck did we never get the contents of the book c!wilbur gave c!tommy?? You throw that shit in just to never tell us what's in it almost 2 years later??

Final thoughts

I might go back and edit this later with more things but for my final thoughts I think c!wilburs finale +the apology tour was a big unsatisfying flop and I belive c!wilbur fans were unfairly fucked over in the end.

Not to sing brighton biter praise, but I do believe he was a good writer and the fact that the last few streams were this unsatisfying is disappointing coming from him. I mean im sure he just wanted to get c!wilburs finale out so he could be done with it but that's not an excuse for fucking your fans over. There was also probably issues with other ccs and characters since (Imo) a lot of the characters he interacted with in the end don't have the best writing (not meant to insult the ccs btw, just saying)

But personally, I somewhat accept it simply bc this is the best we got and I personally don't like alot of other fan re writes on his ending and I also don't like his ending just being "lol he killed himself again"

I��m so happy everyone has been loving the waystone thoughts. It’s something mentioned in most fics where they teleport, but I’ve never felt like elaborating becuase at those points, the characters already knew how it worked. So this moment of introspection from someone as analytical as Étoiles has been real fun.

I’m gonna blab about it more below the cut so click for insane word rambles if you want<3

So.

The inspiration came from the fact that if given the choice of what superpower I would choose, I would go with teleportation. Always been that way. I would always think about how it would work too becuase I was obsessed with MHA for a few years and they’re take on powers and quirks was just too much fun. So I thought about how teleporting would work, if it was sight based or maybe you had to have physically been somewhere to teleport there, etc. i liked the idea of needing to be familiar with a place before you could teleport there, or having some connection to it. Intent, knowing.

When I saw the waystones in the qsmp, and actually used them myself in minecraft, I just started automatically pushing those general teleportation thoughts onto the mechanic. They naturally generate in the world, these old pillars with ancient scribble on them (lke the enchantment tables). In order to use a waystone, you have to “activate” or click it. I just… went with it.

I didn’t realize I was using the idea until a few chapters into twaho and starting fingers. When. I did, I developed it a little more but still, I like to be vague about it. I like magic you don’t fully understand, especially when it’s ancient. Also I feel like over explaining it ruins it in some cases and while Étoiles is the po to over explain mechanics, I like shoving him at something he can’t fully pick apart.

Gah sorry you asked for none of that but I like talk sorry. On to your queries…

Warping for those with ADHD or just overall scattered thoughts— tricky. Since I like to think of these waystones as almost alive (at least the magic), they’re interrupting the “information” from the person touching the stone. Like Étoiles on the beach of Eggxile right after upsetting Charlie, trying to warp to his base but all he could think about was his mistake. All he could think about was Charlie. So the waystone kept him there, where he clearly needed to be, until Étoiles could focus and put more intent into his warp. It’s real easy for people to end up at the wrong waystone simply because they’re distracted or panicking, their minds a jumbled mess. A funny irl example would be anyone wanting to go to one waystone but out of habit they clicked the wrong one, muscle memory. Silly stuff like that. I could talk about it all day tbh

And for the other q… ouch. While I don’t want to over explain the warpstones, but I will say this: the magic is contained in the stone pillars or the warpstones, so when they are moved, it moves the magic. However— the longer a pillar is left somewhere, the more attachment the magic has to an area. Magically and literally. Same for waystones that are frequently used by several people.

Think of the warpstone hub near spawn. That area is like… it’s almost like a beating heart, veins branching out to other communal places like the Favela or France or Phil’s. The traffic and the thought going into those waystones… the magic loves to share the world and loves when people share with it.

I haven’t put too much thought into what would happen if someone tries warping somewhere a stone has been destroyed or removed, but I think it boils down to a few things: how strong those feelings/memories are, and how desperate someone is to return. It’s going to vary from person to person depending on their own connections. I think it will also not be pleasant. You are trying to use magic that is no longer contained, that might not even be present in the location you are going, relying on a signal warpstone or waystone to get you there. Think like a cut wire: it’s contiained until the metal becomes exposed, with no grounding after. Chances of you actually getting there are slim, but maybe the right spark with find it’s way. I don’t know, my metaphors are awful. The idea ties into the share stones. Someone going to a warpstone without having ever been there is impossible unless they have someone else on the other end, connecting those points. HELLO IVE HAD MANY A BRAINBLAST FOR THE TSPxDBH AU AND IM GONNA MAKE THIS A SEPERATE POST FROM THE FIRST ONE

[IF U WANT CONTEXT TO THIS AU HERES THE FIRST POST]

This is V, The Explorer who finds Virgil's body in the office ruins just a few years after Humanity has gotten their freedom.

Some more AU spitballing:

His name is V because of Stanley's Wife. She probably has heard a lot about this android at his office and how this android has taken care of Stanley while dealing with the intense pressures at the office, so she knows that they are a friend to Stanley of some sort. (Highlighting her bc i'll mention her again later)

So when V is born, she names the baby Vi. (Stanley probably didnt know about V at all. Perhaps his wife was going to bring up the news to him when he got home one day. Only for him to never come back.) She wouldn't remember Virgil's name fully though, so she names him V.

Since the game is essentially a VR world for Stanley, everything inside is probably a mix of things taken from Virgil or Stanleys memories. Only due to the decay on Virgil's body and Stanley's forgotten memories, they're half of the whole picture, but taken at face value on their own. Hence the endless sprawling office, non-sensical catwalks and locations, etc.

Like... maybe the Curator is the voice of Virgil's developers, or the Amanda of this universe. But with the decay coupled with the office terminating his service, cutting Cyberlife's systems off from him, all he remembers is the voice talking to him in a white void and reimagines her in a museum.

Maybe the bucket comes from Stanley's vague memory of going to Home Depot to buy a bucket and finding one really good one in the entire store.

Etc. Etc.

Back to V, however, I bring this up because this is the reason why i colour picked V's hair colour from Mariella specifically.

Since Mariella in the game is the only other person with a model that's human in form, maybe Stanley remembers her face but just doesn't remember who it is. Which is why in this AU im thinking Mariella would be Stanley's wife. He just doesn't remember that her face is his wife, since his "wife" in the apartment ending is a mannequin.

(Ignore the fact that Virgil/The Narrator would go on to say "Who would want to commit their life to you" and that he may have some jealousy to this said wife in the first place. /lh /silly)

Maybe The Narrator saw Stanley's memory of this woman's face, and used it in the game since he remembered it so vividly. But since neither remember it was Stanley's wife's face, it was used for the Insanity ending.

Having V as Stanley's son gave me this idea that once The Narrator leaves the office with him to go live out the rest of his days at the local town of survivors, he ends up becoming close to him as well.

It's almost a miracle in a sense, considering that The Narrator wasn't sure he could trust humanity again after his time back in the office.

But over time, they get close, and The Narrator let's his guard down.

Cyberlife Androids have that feature where they can analyze things with their tongue, right?

When they end up having their first kiss, it would take some time for things to get working much less the Narrator be willing to even kiss someone, his HUD starts studying V's DNA.

As he's kissing him, he sees his systems say that its a 47.5% match to Stanley's.

And if you're wondering how the Narrator has Stanley's DNA. He has a function for CPR. And I am 100% sure that he would've tried to save Stanley using it.

The Narrator wouldn't be upset about it in the slightest however. If anything he finds the situation funny in a sense. That the person he ends up loving is also the descendant of the man he loved first.

If he tells this to V however, he goes silent at the realization. Especially since he never remembered having a Father.

Maybe this could lead to him going to his mother, who's now elderly, and the look of shock on his face when he sees an elderly Mariella look back at him, and the voice similar to the one he used in the Parable.

Maybe she tells the story about her husbands disappearance, and maybe The Narrator tells her about Stanley's fate.

Maybe he tells her about the Parable, about how he desperately tried to keep him alive, only to realize that he was gone and moved on. But he still has whatever's left of him in his mind. Living happily in the newly reformed VR space that has him living out his happiest days and in peace.

Maybe with this, The Narrator and Mariella begin to recount stories about Stanley, with V listening in about his father that he never remembered.

And maybe, they all grow closer, and finally move on.

OK, I think I can finish up Rakha's Underdark adventures tonight and get ready to roll into Act 2 with her, which is exciting.

It's funny, bc I felt like I was moving MUCH slower with her than I did with Hector in the early bits of the game, but now the second half of Act 1 feels like it's speeding by. (Mostly this is because I know where everything is now, for the most part, so there are fewer posts of me exploring and looting random boxes. XD )

Quick chats with all the gnomes we rescued, sort of in passing by virtue of killing Nere. They're very grateful and try to offer rewards to Rakha, and also LOOK WHO'S HERE!

HI BARCUS!

"Make it quick! We need to find Wulbren, now!"

"You're a little late, Barcus my lad. He's already been sent to Moonrise Towers. We were just slave-hands to the cult, but not Wulbren. He... knows things. Things they want to know too."

"What has he gotten himself mixed up in now..."

Rakha has already met Barcus once, and it's actually a relatively positive memory for her; it was one of the earliest points where she ended up turning her violent instincts in a purposeful direction to help someone (although she wasn't really thinking clearly about it like that at the time yet).

Barcus himself she was mostly perplexed by, but he didn't irritate her. And she does remember him talking about looking for his friend Wulbren in the Underdark, so none of this is particularly a surprise.

She is curious about Beldron's description of Wulbren as a leader with special knowledge, though, which leads to what might be one of the most specifically Rakha-ish dialogue options we've had so far:

[INTIMIDATION] "I also like to know things. Start talking."

"You'll call me mad," Beldron says fretfully. "But... fine. Wulbren's found the formula for runepowder."

"What?" yelps Barcus.

"Aye. The explosive of Gaerdal Ironhand's own creation. Fistfuls wiping out armies, all those old stories. Only Wulbren couldn't leave the stories be, so he went and bloody found it. A small supply, tucked away down here with a manuscript. He'd just made sense of the formula when the cult jumped us, so he burned the damn thing. If there's a single copy left, it's sitting in his head. Those Absolutists pull it out and make runepowder... they could flatten the whole of the Sword Coast."

Ah. This explains the woman with the cask of powder up at the top of the ruins - and why she was so loathe to give up her prize. This Wulbren is clearly highly intelligent, and his dangerous knowledge is in the cult's hands.

Rakha already intends on destroying the cult for her own personal reasons, but now she can add "not blowing up" to them. (And saving Wulbren, perhaps, should the occasion present.)

"How long do you think he can hold out?" she asks bluntly.

"Not long enough," Beldron says gravely. "My people can barely stand, and we have business back in the city. That business is whawt sent us after the powder to begin with. Now we'll have to make other arrangements."

Barcus's eyes widen in alarm. "And just like that, you'd leave Wulbren behind? I knew you lot were foolish, but I didn't know you were cruel!"

Beldron smirks, and it's not a kind expression. "If you knew half as much as you think, my lad, Wulbren might have kept you around."

There is some interpersonal undercurrent happening in this conversation, and Rakha frankly could not care less about it - although she does notice the way Barcus's head snaps back as if the words were a punch.

"Run away, then," she says with a faint shrug. "I have my own business to be about."

Beldron nods, all business now. "My people will find somewhere to regroup across the lake," he says. "Then on to the city. If you find yourself in Baldur's Gate, seek us out. We'll raise a glass to Wulbren together."

Rakha has considerable doubt that that will be a top priority for her any time soon, so she just shrugs.

Barcus, to his credit, makes an effort to smile and shake off the conversation as Beldron walks away, and looks up at Rakha with visible admiration. "Well," he says brightly. "You did it! I shouldn't be surprised, considering our history. And yet..."

Rakha finds that she is far more unsettled by that admiration than by almost anything else that has happened in this place.

"I did," she says uneasily. "But not out of the kindness of my heart." I don't know how to do that...

Barcus blinks; apparently he interprets this as a request for coin rather than a self-deprecating comment on Rakha's interpersonal skills. "I have no coin," he says good-humoredly, "but the foreman will be happy to provide."

He lets out a heavy breath and absently toes his boot against the cracked stonework. "As you know, some of the Ironhand gnomes - my friend Wulbren among them - have been taken prisoner in Moonrise Towers. They're not even going after him. I wish I were surprised," he mutters. A pause, and then he squares his shoulders deliberately. "And so... to Moonrise Towers I go."

He's brave, this little one. She'll say that for him. His loyalty to this Wulbren reminds her of that which she has slowly cultivated for her companions.

He's also kind to her without cause - which gives her complicated feelings. Wyll is like that - but so was Ethel.

"I believe I'm destined for the Towers as well," she says noncommittally. "I'll look for your friends." Especially if their presence means we might all explode.

Barcus lifts his chin and narrows his eyes intently. "Friend. Singular," he says firmly. "I'm looking for Wulbren. If anyone else should be incidentally helped, then bully for them."

To everyone's astonishment - not least Rakha's herself - she suddenly grins harshly. Yes. He does think like her indeed - because she might have said the same, had one of her companions been taken by the cult.

She offers him a place at their camp, since he's going the same way, which is surprising as well. On some level, perhaps, she didn't expect him to accept.

NAMES AND TITLES AND MANNERS OF ADDRESS BABY!!! that shit is like drugs for me. whenever i'm messing around with it i feel like i am at the very height of caring about and understanding my own work i KNOW that sounds obnoxious as hell but like. aghhhhh. im in there THINKING. about specifically when and where and how one manner of address might shift to another and whether that is different inside the narration and out loud and what each name and title means in which situation. yeah im normal about hierarchies why do you ask.

ok i did do this one but im gonna give a runner up. TO THE VERY DEAR MEMORY OF [ ] is a personal fave for sure bc it's. idk nontraditional? well it's based off of this image and it took me a long time of testing different things before i figured out a way to appropriately represent that erasure of the name on the headstone by the water...the sensation that there Used to be something there, that there was Supposed to be something there, but all that is left is the water. and i'm very pleased by the effect of the brackets and how it looks on the ao3 page. it just brings me a lot of joy to let myself kind of fuck around and do whatever i think is cool. im trying so so so hard to internalize "get weird with it!" and its the baby steps out here.

What's princess tutu??

OH BOY YOUVE OPENED THE FLOOD GATES NOW LET ME TELL U ABT MY FAVORITE SHOW, PRINCESS TUTU (take 2 bc i lost my old writing abt this.)

I think it’s a bit funny this is one of my OTHER obsessions other than Ultrakill considering how different they are, but eh. I can’t guarantee this will be everyone’s cup of tea. 

Princess Tutu is an anime released in 2002 (it had its 20 year anniversary recently :D) and is somewhat well-known (but also kinda not..) among fans of mahou shoujo. It has only two seasons and is one of my favorite animes ever. It also has a manga series that was released I think alongside it however its story is different from the anime and I hear it isn’t as good as the anime. While it is not action-packed or full of bright colors it tells a story that resonates with me so deeply and made me rethink what makes a good story. It has a very soft and delicate look to it, and while it can get very fucking dark it can be very sweet and cute. It also inspired my love of ballet and returned a love of classical music to me that I had lost, and is what inspired my Ultradanse AU in MANY fucking ways. My partner Valentine is the one who showed it to me and it changed me fundamentally, and I showed it to Dex and it ruined his life (positively). So now I hope by dumping about this, it interests you in watching it!

VERY LONG WRITING UNDER THE CUT. I AM SO SORRY.

The story follows the heroine Duck, and three other characters named Fakir, Rue and Mytho. It takes place in Gold Crown Town, a place where fairytales become reality. However, Gold Crown Town is only like this because it is under the influence of Drosselmeyer, an author of immense power who died before he could finish writing his story The Prince and the Raven and is now using the town and its residents to orchestrate his story to give it a conclusion.The Prince and the Raven from the book escape their story and come into reality, and to seal the Raven away he shatters his heart into shards that scatter themselves across the town. He succeeds, but the Prince is now without emotion or feeling, barely able to think for himself. He now studies dance at Gold Crown Academy, where the other three main characters study as well.

Drosselmeyer has given the main four different character roles, each one meant to end in their demise or a tragic end. They’re meant to play the roles, submit to the fate of the character, and fully believe that they were that character from the beginning even if that wasn’t true. Drosselmeyer may or may not have influenced and altered their histories and memories, and probably altered their feelings as well so it can be brought into question how much is under Drosselmeyer’s influences.

Drosselmeyer wants this story to end in tragedy, to end in sadness, as to him that would be the best ending. The characters within it though are very complex people, and rather than to succumb to their fates, everyone is trying to escape it. Princess Tutu plays a lot with defying destiny.

Duck plays the role of Princess Tutu. While the title of the role she plays is the title of the series, in Drosselmeyer’s story and in his plans, Princess Tutu is a minor character who is only meant to return the Prince’s heart shards to him, confess her love and then immediately die. It’s a cruel fate, as Duck wants nothing more than to do the right thing and help the prince and others by returning his shards to him where they belong so he may feel and think for himself again. Being Princess Tutu is conflicting for her, because it doesn’t just affect her fate and others but if she wasn’t Princess Tutu she would no longer be able to dance so exquisitely as she wants. Not being Princess Tutu means a lot of things for her, it also means she could forfeit her ability to be a girl. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention? Duck is not even a human girl. She was born a duck and ends the story as a duck. She’s not particularly skilled in much and isn’t very special at all. And yet, what makes her so great is her kindness and resilience. You don’t have to be particularly skilled or perfect at anything to change things or be loved, it’s okay to be average or “just a duck.” It’s fine to be flawed, you can still move someone's heart and change your fate.

Rue plays the role of Princess Kraehe, I don’t think I can really call her an antagonist as she isn’t really one to me. Princess Kraehe is the daughter of the Raven, and she desires the prince and actively works against Princess Tutu to stop him from regaining his heart shards, or just to mess with the process and use it to further her goals. However, Rue makes me SO FUCKING SAD. The Raven leads Rue to believe Mytho is the only one who’d be able to love someone as ugly as her, and only believes she is ugly because she is human in appearance instead of a bird. He gives her this insecurity and desperation that makes her easy to manipulate as he plans to “help” her secure the prince for herself. But she really does love Mytho, and has loved him for all her life. I wish I could go on and on about her, she’s one of my favorite characters ever and she makes me CRY. SHEEE ONLY WANTED TO BE LOVED THATS ALL SHE WANTED AAGGHGHHH

Fakir plays the role of the Prince’s knight, and while I thought he was the antagonist when I first watched the way he develops over the course of the story really makes that idea fade fast. Hell, I even forgot I hated him when I first watched, and now he’s on my top 10 favorite emo boys. He seems like a total dickweed at first and has some.. Kinda vaguely gay scenes with Mytho at the beginning, but he’s far more than that. He admires Mytho and when he was younger, swore he wanted to be Mytho’s knight to protect him, and doesn’t want Mytho to get hurt. Having emotions means he’s susceptible to getting hurt, but there’s more to that. Fakir, playing the role of the knight and believing in his fate, he fears that fate and what is to befall him. Similar to Princess Tutu, he is also destined to die, to be sliced through the chest in battle. He was even born with a birthmark that resembles a scar across his chest. If Mytho has his heart shards returned to him, the story goes into motion, and the closer he gets to his fate. He wants to protect Mytho and keep him safe, but he also doesn’t want to die.While everyone plays a very important role in the story’s finale, he plays a very big one howweeever I don’t wanna spoil what that is or some abilities he has. :]

Mytho, my dear sweet boy and his fucked up haircut, is the prince. He doesn’t play a role, he IS the prince from the story. He exists as this heroic figure that is meant to be perfect, and he has a desire to protect and save others. For most of the story though he lacks his emotions and gains them back slowly, but kinda just gets get pushed and dragged around by Rue and Fakir who are both, for different selfish kinds of love and in different ways, keep him from regaining feelings and dictating what he does. Maybe I’m silly for this interpretation, but he is kind of used like a tool or a doll sometimes rather than a person. Regaining his emotions can hurt him in more ways than one and yet he still wants all of his emotions back. He kind of goes from holding no opinions or thoughts of his own at all to forming ones can be conflicting in the moment. He also gets hurt when Kraehe taints a heart shard with raven’s blood which gives him a touch of evil and flaws he did not begin with. I don’t think he gets the same amount of a transformation of character as the other three, but in the end when his emotions are regained he becomes a bit of an imperfect prince.

I love the characters, a lot. A totally normal amount. BUT. I gotta say, Princess Tutu has some of the prettiest but also the coolest scenes, and they’re good art inspiration for me. I really gotta go out of my way to clip my favorite things, because some of my favorite things haven’t been clipped and put on Youtube somewhere. Here’s some gifs from the series that I like

Like I said, Wukong fanfic trope of a season :D "characters walk through someone else's memory" its great bc we get to learn more about Wukong, who is in desperate need of some transparency here, AND we get to geek out over JTTW references yayyy. Also, I did say I will not be normal when baby Macky is on screen and EEEK look at how friggin SMOL he is just squishy little hiding his shy smile in the corner after Wukong finishes his story, he can't even look at Wukong ughh adorable. Then his "and I oop" face when Wukong says "correction" and gets all up in his face XD "why am I friends with this guy again?" and then the shenanigans promptly fall off a cliff :/ I wasn't expecting it but. Macaque got worried all of a sudden, in a serious way, and Wukong was still goofing off, but that was a fair concern. Also remind you of anything? "Same old Wukong, doing whatever he wants with no regard for others." at the end of S3 special? Yeah. Fascinating, because with how Macaque acts in the present day, I wasn't expecting him to have been Wukong's voice of reason. The other stuff technically checks out, "cowardly of the bunch, slinking in the shadows like a rodent" but he did a pretty good job of covering for it with his viciousness and scary presence in the present. In the past it just sounds like he was the black sheep of the brotherhood XD he is just so. WITTLE. look at his big ol eyes and how soft and smol he looks next to Yellowtusk in the next scene. He's so stunned hearing Azure's speech to Wukong I wonder what he's thinking, like "dang...I need to up my game, he's more eloquent than me." its okay, you evolve into a theatre fruit in the future. I've seen him being here compared to like...when your friend drags you into their college fraternity party and you're just here for the studying. I know putting your foot down in an environment like this is tough, but the story also pretty much tells us that Macky's inability to do so and make his own choices over going with what others do until it blows up in your face is a flaw. it could save everyone the trouble, but I also want to point out Wukong's flaw in his inability to listen to what others say bc Macky was right about that and its interesting BECAUSE its also a lesson he taught MK in the first season with the blindfold. He learned and grew from that I see. Also LMAO at Macky's little frown at Wukong, it's giving that "ahem, aren't you forgetting something" look. Also "Basking in the sun for the rest of forever." hehe. "in the darkness, the Warrior was cast in that shadow." okay let's see where this goes. He looks at Wukong here the same way MK does. same expression. Chinese dub also said something like, "As you wish, Wukong." OKAY BUD. "Basking in the sun." He says, as the screen cuts abruptly to the moon, fully aware of the narrative.

So >:) did we convince you of ShadowPeach? its okay, the cheeky monkeys squishing their faces together gets all of us at some point. if that lil tid bit was enough to make you pause then the special is going to ruin you. It's so utterly cute and sweet, funny af with MK at the start, so incredible with the voice acting regarding *gets dragged off stage* and season 4 villain has dropped some 👌 fire lines.

I loved seeing the younger Mackie.
