#juno steel is fine

the thing is. juno & nureyev's relationship has been such a major guiding thread throughout the podcast and the major drive of season 5, and the fandom has built itself so much (as fandoms often do) around shipping the two of them.
and yet nureyev doesn't show up at all in the last episode! or, he does, but it's only implied (for all we know it could be like. alessandra strong)(i know it's not but it would be really funny) and we don't hear his voice.
and it's so important to me that despite the room that their romance has taken in the plot and in our hearts, his absence reinforces that the point of juno steel's story wasn't a lady getting his man, it was about learning to grow as person for himself and for his friends (and not just his love interest), and it was about finding his footing in life and being at peace with himself and his place in the world. and he did! his growth and relative serenity is so apparent and just. a balm to the soul
and the fact that his man is back is just a nice add-on, not a necessity for his happiness

I'm so ready for some Nureyev character growth this season.
Nureyev having to understand that Slips death is not his fault like Juno had to understand that he didn't kill Ben, like Sasha had to understand that she didn't kill Annie, like everyone in this podcast has to understand that sometimes it just *isn't your fault*. Sometimes bad things happen and the only thing you can do is move on, no matter how difficult that seems.

superman: the man of steel gallery
[ID: a pin-up of Clark Kent trying to get a haircut. He's in his Superman costume and is sitting on his cape in a salon chair with one of his legs crossed over his knee. On the floor is several pairs of broken hair scissors as the hairdresser breaks a pair of large garden shears in an attempt to cut his Super-mullet. Lois watches them from the sidelines with an amused smirk as Clark is looking down and is casually reading Detective Comics #692. END ID]

Just heard Juno’s ‘I should have run away with you when I had the chance’ monologue and i feel like my soul was just unceremoniously launched into the vacuum of space :D

I irrationally thought that I had a grace season in between season 1 and Juno Steel's no good terrible decision but I do not. Everytime I play this podcast and listen to it I suspect that it's gonna fucking kill me. (In both good ways and negative ways. There's a whole roller coaster of emotions to be unlocked, here.)
Do you know what's funny? I also suspect that if Juno Steel was in different circumstances this would be regarded as an incredibly depressing podcast. Is that why it never breaches containment? That it's a love letter to sad and terrible things happening to very queer people?
Should I just stop here and let them have hotel sex and for once live in a world where Juno Steel does not have a pattern of self sabotage. End of podcast listening?*
*For the record it's probably the best characterization decision ever made and functionally one of the crowning jewels of this podcast. I would not love Juno steel nearly as much if this decision was not made for how much it enriches both the story and it's characters and I recognize and love that. It just also is so fucking rough

as a transmasc, Juno Steel has done irreparable damage to my gender. like I used to think I’d always viscerally hate feminine descriptors then I heard him consistently call himself a dame and now i’m like damn…. maybe I’m both just a dude and a dame/gal whom you should buy a drink for…. lots to think about 🤔

the hardest part of liking the penumbra podcast is being the second citadel fan first and juno steel fan second

Juno and his friends used to go swimming in the cooling pool of the old nuclear reactor which supplied power to oldtown. He has since learned that breaking in to a high security facility every weekend was great practice for his future career.

waiting for a full set of second citadel or juno to drop before listening is a dangerous life...
oh well, the second juno part dropped so I can now stop frantically scrolling past harleys insta reels or random tumblr posts
