the juno steel storyline just finished up today and it's such an odd feeling. i started listening in 2020, sitting in my garage, social distanced from my friend, knitting and listening to the early episodes. through the last four years the podcast has sort of followed me at very specific moments. i listened to it while finishing my first college finals, while going through my first breakup (immediately followed by us getting back together lol), while questioning my gender, while trying to figure out what the fuck i'm doing with my life.

all this to say, it's been nice to have a story to comfort me along the way

Reverse chronological seems to be the order of the day so that existing listeners can quickly grab the latest ep at the top of the page -- my web serial feed is reverse chronological for the same reason. But if you're gonna have a reverse chronological display, you'd better have a "first episode" button and an "archive" button right there on the front page. People should be able to find their place on a new device (no reliance on cookies) in two mouse clicks with minimal scrolling and load times. If I have to scroll through a 200 episode list to find the start of your podcast/webcomic/story I will be listening to something else.

And yeah, an autoplay feature that plays your podcast eps *in reverse order* is just stupid. Either have it play them in order or remove it.

Here's the thing about podcasts for me: if I can't listen to them on their site, I'm not going to listen to them. I'm not using a "podcatcher" or whatever the fuck, and I'm reasonably sure most of the "listen to this on XYZ!" things that get shown are things you need to have an app or an account for, neither of which I'm going to do. And even if they DON'T, then they still require clicking away from the place I was on to check out the show in the first place, which always makes it less likely for me to do something.

Signed, someone who's grumpy that the last three out of four podcasts they were checking out, can't be listened to on the sites, and thus likely will never get listened to; and now they're going to have to just put on a background noise channel ("speedrun events" are good for that, because I don't care about them) instead of listening to something interesting.

Anyway, I can't form too many coherent thoughts right now because I've been crying way too much but I just want to thank @thepenumbrapodcast team for everything they've done over the years. I first started listening mid season two so I guess that makes me one of the oldies.

This podcast gave me everything I didn't realize I was missing from the media I consumed. Everything I watch or listen to or read, I compare to how The Penumbra makes me feel. It wasn't always perfect, but I always had fun. Even when I was in the most emotional pain, crying and screaming and frothing at the mouth, it was because I CARED about these characters and I CARED about their stories.

No other piece of media has successfully made me feel this way before and it's hard for me to believe I can ever feel this way for something again. I think that's the definition of true love, honestly.

Thank you for not only your stories but for helping me find my people online. I have made friends through this fandom I would never had made otherwise. This wasn't just a podcast, it was a place and a people.

As a writer myself, I can only aspire to do for others all that you've done for me.

I wont get to hear the Aurinkos grow old together, but I can see it. I adore this podcast so much, it makes me so sad it’s coming to an end soon, but happy the Aurinkos may get to relax finally. Harley Takagi Kaner, Kevin Vibert, and everyone involved deserve the world. It’s been a lovely ride on @thepenumbrapodcast .
