Reading through Adastra has been so… fulfilling in a way that I didn’t expect it to be. From the gorgeous art to the absolutely amazing storytelling it’s just great from start to finish. And it’s leaving me with the specific itch to try out creating my own little world and eventually, hopefully, my own visual novel

Still in the baby steps stage since I only have a semblance of an idea, but I can feel this going somewhere. So expect some world building posts and drawings in the near future because I’ve got some character concepts that I need to flesh out

Fun theory of mine I’m sure someone smarter’s thought of before—

Juniper is the way he is, evil monologue and all, in part because he approaches his role in Zoraxis as just that! A role. The role of a villain, specifically. And because of his frankly terrible method acting practices, it started to bleed through until it was just part of him as a person.

Happy WBW! What's the coolest fantastical creature in your setting?

OHHH I don't know if this counts, but in With Love, Juniper there is a side character named Dante who is a former familiar given a human form for his last life. He was a cat with a pale, silvery coat and can still take that form and has a lot of cat-like mannerisms.

He runs a lounge in Linseed Village called The Cat's Cradle and he is by far the most beloved side character of all of my beta readers.

Here's a little snippet from one of my favorite interactions he has with Oleander, one of the main characters.

“Frond, mind the bar for a while. I need to humble this young man,” Dante said.   Tucker grimaced, putting his broom aside to take Dante’s spot behind the bar. He looked a little worried and Dante patted his shoulder.   “You’ll be fine. Call for me if you encounter any obstacles,” Dante encouraged.   Dante unbuttoned his shirt cuffs and rolled his sleeves up to his elbows as he rounded the counter and met up with Oleander. He gestured over to the tables where a couple of men were rising from their spots in a game.  “Seems we’re just in time,” Dante said looking sidelong down at the young man.   “Rolling your sleeves up, eh? It must be serious for you to show so much skin,” Oleander teased. Dante lifted a hand swatted the brim of Oleander’s pointed hat, causing it to topple off his head. Oleander caught it with a warm laugh and pushed at Dante’s shoulder.   “Don’t talk about me like I’m some virginal maiden,” Dante said as he started walking with him to the tables.   “Don’t act like one and I’d have no reason to do so.”  “Oh, you will be eating a very large serving of humble pie very soon,”  “What is it that they usually say about people who talk about winning too much?”  Dante clicked his tongue and this time swatted Oleander on the back of the head. Oleander stumbled forward and laughed warmly.   “Just go get your ass in the chair,” Dante said.  “Language, my lady!” Oleander exclaimed.  “I’m starting to think of just beating you, forget the cards.”
