Watching Junior Pairs was interesting this event! Juniors is such a weird time for pairs, and we’re about to see even more weirdness in the field (in a good direction in my opinion because it will narrow those age gaps in junior pairs) as there’s a whole slew of partnerships that are going to become age ineligible to compete at any level (man too old for juniors, woman too young for seniors) because of how the age limits got changed. A lot of pairs were formed with the old age limits in mind and have pretty big age gaps, often because as they are growing and getting stronger, it’s just easier if the size gap between the pair is as big as possible. I think that narrowing the age gap in junior pairs is actually going to push for better pairs elements in the long run, but we’ll see if I’m right about that.

My moment of meta level interest is also for the Japanese pair that came in as alternates for this event. Murakami/Moriguchi have a lot of potential in pairs, and they actively challenged for the podium, almost squeaking into bronze after a really good free skate. I hope that how they were matched up and performed is indicative of how Japanese figure skating is approaching developing their pairs program. Japan has an incredibly deep singles field, so drawing good skaters with overall solid skills who have their triples but aren’t challenging the very top of the Japanese field and developing them in pairs, getting them coaching to focus on those pairs elements, really has the potential to pay off. Those side by side jumps were *incredible*, the most challenging side by side combo/sequence ever attempted and succeeded in pairs! They’re still clearly learning the pairs elements and how to skate as a pair, but what they’ve got so far is good! Now, this is one of the teams that is going to get caught in that age gap problem because they were formed as a team before the rule changed. I hope that they don’t get split up and just compete domestically and keep working on those skills if they can keep skating like this though because I see a lot of potential there, and their jumps and skating lines match really well. Between the senior pairs results and this though, I think that Japanese skating may finally have figured out what they need to do to start cracking into having a solid pairs program. I’m going to be keeping my eyes on the development there for sure.

As a gift to @somerandomdudelmao and myself after that one comment about the little turtles watching Casey Junior clamber on and cling to his “Master/Sensei” figures and having an “Oh he means Dad” moment.

They are having the turtle pile they deserve in the pillow-fort that was demanded when they found out Uncle Tello splurged on an obscene amount of cushions and installed Floor Heating and a Heat Lamp.

This is a little out of left field, but there are some little parallels between Sandra Lynn/Jawbone and Fig/Ayda in Sandra Lynn and Fig's conversation in Fallinel. Sandra Lynn and Fig both struggle to see themselves in a good light, but they have these amazing partners who see them in such a positive light. Partners who love them unconditionally, with all the things that make them dislike themselves. The difference is Sandra Lynn has Jawbone with her. He's close by, he can remind her of the worth she can't see in herself. But Ayda (through no fault of her own), can't be around Fig to help her through her issues with identity. Fig doesn't have her Jawbone to remind her that, yeah, she's worth it.

This just popped into my head but I feel like a marauders band AU, but with anonymous bands, would be super cool. Like yall know how Sleep Token is just I, II, III, and IV? And they wear masks? It’d be fun to do something like that with the marauders, the valkyries, and the skittles. It’d give them the opportunity to be super vulnerable with their music in a way being a regular band wouldn’t.

Regulus and Sirius would be free to express how badly the abuse growing up was without airing their dirty laundry.

James could actually say what he was thinking without worry about someone else’s feelings.

Barty could write about the toll of growing up neglected and ignored and find something healthier to cope with his anger without having to worry about people not taking his ‘bad boy’ act seriously.

Remus (assuming it’s a muggle au) would have a space to talk about anything and everything he wanted without chronic illness being the first, and only, thing people see about him.

Evan could write about his own internalised feelings and have an outlet to actually understand what and why he feels certain ways instead of repressing it.

Peter would be able to talk about his insecurities, feeling inferior to his friends, and learning how to cope with stressors instead of running away from them.

Pandora would have a safe space where people couldn’t marginalise her because she’s “too weird” or “doesn’t fit in”.

Dorcas could use her music to work through her internalised homophobia about herself and unlearn the things she was taught.

Marlene would have a conductive place to release her anger at things in her life without hurting the people around her lashing out.

Lily could have somewhere to put all the issues and heartbreak with her sister and know that there’s other people who know and understand her pain.

Mary would have an opportunity to put people in her shoes and force people to hear her and what she’s saying instead of them dismissing her because she’s a woman of colour.

Idk I just started thinking about how cool an anonymous band AU would be. Like they all know each other but none of them know who the people they’re in a band with or the public know who they are. It’d be pretty cool and it’d probably open a lot of doors for lots of angst, bonding, and ✨therapy✨
