June Days: Revolution in France and Onset of the Civil War
In those wintry days of February, the revolution against that defunct king had been successful and France was to be a Republic again. A broad coalitions of classes and ideologues began to construct the trappings for what is now-referred to as the 2nd Republic of France, that short lived experiment. This saw the contradictions of interests of the bourgeoisie and their conservative contingents, the more romantic and liberal petite bourgeoisie, and the more radical and socialists proletariat. Even in this mix, there were the most reactionary of monarchical forces that wished to bring forth a Bourbon return. To summarize, there was no consensus on how the republic ought to be organized.
The Bourgeoisie sought damage control. Their July Monarchy was gone, but that did not mean they could prevent further excesses of radicalism. They sought to limit the social reforms that other factions proposed, to maintain their stronghold on governmental procedures, and finally to prevent further escalations of violence.
The Petite Bourgeoisie sought moderate gains. Seeing their position, wished to simply be a part of the bourgeois order. So, they placed their backing behind an image of a democratic republic, that would have an expanded electorate and moderate social safety nets to prevent them from falling into that dread class.
The Proletariat sought a new order. They were the ensnared and chained working horse of France and it was from their blood, sweat, and tears that the Bourgeoisie had gained power and had increased their power and wealth. So, they sought an end to the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie. Their republic, they imagined, would be the egalitarianism sought in the first revolution and later sought by the conspiracy of equal. This would see governmentally ensured necessities such as food and work, alongside the establishment of a broadly democratic society with full suffrage for all men. Many might assume that their demands would be the same as those outlined by their contemporary, Karl Marx, however it is important to remember that his manifesto was published but 2 days before their revolution. Needless to say, the mark of Marx is not unnoticed on the later June Days revolutionaries.
The most insidious faction, the reactionaries and the monarchists, I wish not to spend long on. They represent those most despotic forces, that of the Bourbons and Napoleon. They aligned themselves wholeheartedly with the interest of the Bourgeoisie to ensure their influences does not wain.
It is with these factions and their conflicting visions that the 2nd Republic would be dissolved and civil war would ensue. The Socialists and the Republicans, representing the Proletariat and the Petty Bourgeoisie respectively, began early work push for an equitable society. They pushed for an expansion of suffrage for which a new constituent assembly would be elected. Soon enough, further pushes for guaranteed and honorable employment and even a dissolution of the national guard in favor of more 'decentralized' worker's militia.
However, the Republicans and the Socialists differed in how these economic and social changes would be produced and to what extent, and as the majority of National Assembly seemed to align increasingly with this moderation, this sort alliance of convenience seemed to dissolve. With political disunity, the change that each group sought was only 'fulfilled' only in half-measures. This saw little legitimate economic relief beyond the National workshop. In a similar vain, the shadow of reaction began to rear its ugly head. A cousin of Napoleon Bonaparte, Charles-Louis, had established himself as the favorite among the more conservative and reactionary elements of the Republic. Many feared that he may attempt to replicate his uncle rise to power.
Socialists, aligning with the work and thoughts of Louis Blanc and Louis-Auguste Blanqui, began to plot an end to this farce. As the provisinal 'national workships' and the meager armaments and amenities given to the working class began to falter and as June approached, the time seemed ripe. The Socialist began to build up their conspiracy to overthrow the bourgeois farce of 'the Second Republic'. In secrecy, they continued to build up arms and train what would be referred to as a 'Proletarian Guard'. Through March to May and into June, the Socialists built up power within Paris and at every turn undermined the authority of the National Assembly. Catching wind of this conspiracy, the reactionaries took to action first, expelling several members of the National Assembly accused of falling in line with the conspiracy and announcing plans to dismantle the National workshop system.
This was the turning point. Blanqui and his conspirators seeing their potential Thermidor took to action. Arosing the anger and fear of the Parisian working class and engaging their trained Proletarian Guard, they marched on the National Assembly. Blanqui, taking not to 'be ahead of those damned Thermidorians', launched this attack on the eve of June nineteenth which now marks the Messidorian Revolution. Soon enough, despite attempts by the National Guard to repeal them, they burst in and seized power. Several reactionary elements fled, including that Bonaparte, but many of the more modern republicans were permitted to remain unharmed while the vast majority of conservative electors were arrested for the time being. Thus, as Paris burned with the rage of the Proletariat through the long nights of June and beyond its days, France was plunged once more into Civil War, as the reactionary elements of the military and the political body attempted to reassert their control over France.
The fighting was long, and much longer was the pacification of the countryside, but as the nation emerged from the conflict burnt and scarred, it would be under the Red Banner of the June Days Fighters and the Blanquists that France would enter the modern day, and with the war won, they had much politically, economically, and socially to reconsider
This was but one of the many revolutions, some successful, other faltering, that occured as the reactionary order of Metternich began to collapse.

THIS IS FOR CATALOGUE PURPOSES:
I have been working on a project for a bit, and I want to catalogue my thought process with a lot of decision for the future of the project.
This is an alt-hist scenario I have been working for a bit that focuses on the revolutions of the 19th century. I original was working on it to eventually try an develop it into a mod for HOI4, but realized that will be a length process that I am not sure if I should through myself into. So, for now, I will document some elements, make revisions, and hopefully write in-universe stories exploring the unique dynamics of it (I already have one, but I digress)
June Days: or How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Revolution(s)
Point of Departure: 1848 - The year of revolutions
Initial Primary Differences:
Successful establish of the French Social Republic (instead of the reaction and later Napoleon III coup)
Formation of (weakened) German Imperial Confederation (system to be explained, revised, and expanded upon)
Formation of Italian Confederation composed of several conflicting factions (Kingdom of Sardinia Piedmont in the North, Roman Republic in its center, to be added eventually an independent Commonwealth of Naples and an independent Venetian Republic)
Kingdom of Hungary
Russian Protectorate in Galicia
In this, I primarily have explored or examined the implications of an outwardly socialist French government and its organized colonial territories. At the time of 1848, France had land in the colonies in the Caribbean, Algeria, West Africa, and India, alongside escalating its involvement in Vietnam among other regions. This colonial contradiction would not simply go away, so I want to examine how the early socialists and republicans of the French Social Republic would come to terms with these. Would they allow reactionary elements to persist? Or would the withdraw their imperialization? I have my 'solution' that I think would most accurately represent how they might go about it, but that is to come.
Another element that I wanted to explore is the dynamics around socialists or left-wing movements in Europe and abroad in relation to the exists of the French Social Republic, a government primarily organized around the worker's social interest. This includes looking at how the Marxists and Anarchists would evolve their theory. On some level, this might just be me making up an excuse to read Marx's work on the French revolutions, but I digress.
Other areas of interest for me are the two confederations I have being built up. Following a (semi-)successful revolution in Germany and Italy, unlike in our timeline, they are ability to 'unify'. But the question remains: How will these unification play out? Will they be stable and capable of further solidification of power for their national bourgeoisie? or will they falter due to conflicting factional interests?
Current temporary map of the situation as of 1850:

Note: I plan on revising the series of maps that I have. I would need to find some good software that I could use, so that is something to look into.
