Georgia Abortion Ban Ruling: The ‘End of Judicial Gaslighting’
youtube
A Fulton County judge agrees that Georgia's strict abortion ban is tantamount to judicial gaslighting!
Women, thankfully, aren't community property & this 'law' was worded like they are!!
But, remember, so long as the Republikkkans are in power - they're going to keep trying to pass reworded bans...
Let's clip this possibility in the bud - by voting their rumps out of office!!
And, let's shut the door behind them...
(We know most of them now.)
End?

prowl and ultra magnus are radically different people and the best way i can summarize it is that, if they were playing chess against each other, ultra magnus would have the classical strategies memorized and deploy them judiciously, while prowl would also have the classical strategies memorized and also steal ultra magnus' pieces when he wasnt looking and then gaslight the shit out of him when ultra magnus goes hey did you take my pieces. because to prowl a fair fight is a fight youve already lost, and to ultra magnus its chess, not a fight.

@jjaysontodd
Yeah, asks typically stay off because I've been on this hell site for ten years (made my first account back in 2013) and I've been subjected to some SHIT!!
Could be convinced to turn them on, though~
Anyway, the name of the game when it comes to Jason Todd is gaslight gatekeep girlboss, because there is no way in hell some of these bitches rly think he's as bad as they say he is. Especially when you compare his shenanigans to the shenanigans of characters like Bruce or even Tim.
Yes, he kills people. Yes, he can be pretty uncaring about the collateral of his plqns.
But guess what?!
SO IS EVERYONE ELSE!!
The only difference is that we, as Jason Todd enjoyers, know what we're here for.
As for the Helena stans and their beef with Jason, idk what to tell ya, mate. Well, other than it's madness, of course!!
There's definitely a convo to be had about male characters getting more space to be complex than female characters, but that's not what's going here. What's going on here is a treasure trove of fandom feminists have decided that Jason has far too many ~feminine~ traits and that he doesn't deserve to have the support he has within the fandom. Why they’ve come to this conclusion is so inane and idiotic, I refuse to dignify it with a response, but it’s that type of shit why I rly want us to go back to the days of decentralized fandom spaces. Spaces where mods actually had the power to cull and reject nonsense, before it started to spread like a virus. It wasn’t perfect (it bred an air of smug exclusivity that stank of unwashed ass), but it’s better than having to deal with assholes spreading liberal nonsense like”Jason Todd is a cop cause he kills and uses guns”.
As if cops are only dangerous because of the extra judicial killings and the apparatus most associated with them 😒😒😒
Anyway, I would bet money that most of those so called Helena stans don't even care about her like that as a character; they just hate Jason.
Which kinda sucks, cause I find Hintress - like all the Gotham vigilantes - to be fascinating characters. But my want to actually pursue any new info on her has been dead on arrival, because her stans are fucking assholes.
Bottom line, Jason’s story resonates with a lot of people. If you don’t get it or can’t bring yourself to understand, then like… Don’t. You don’t have to. The world would be so much better off if people learned that sometimes… the media you consume is just as personal as it what it says about you publicly.
#Yes I do actually believe the other Bats kill people#Maybe not on purpose#But you don’t get to take the moral high ground just because the fate of some of your victims is as ambiguous as Schrödinger’s cat#Especially Bruce#That man is 200+ pounds of pure muscle and poorly regulated fury#He’s also delusional af#Dude could literally snap a guy’s neck or run a bitch over with the Batmobile#As long as they’re still breathing as soon as he vacates the premises then he technically didn’t break his rule#Not his fault the bastards couldn’t survive their injuries#Or got offed by the rogue they were working with#Maybe yall shouldn’t have been doing A Crime^TM!!#Bruce is so fucking pathetic#Everytime he spits the judge jury and executioner bullshit at Jason - especially after beating hims senseless or robbing him of his…#… autonomy- I lose ten years off my life#Dude might as well put on a GCPD uniform over the Batsuit cause that’s all he’s been fucking reduced to#An agent of the system who operates outside its purview or oversight#The fact that killing is where Bruce and the other Bats draw the line is fucking comical af#And I wish more people would acknowledge that#jjaysontodd#Replies#Jason Todd#Replying this way cause I don't know how to be concise

Fifth Circuit holds a biased and embarrassing hearing on the mifepristone ruling of Judge Kacsmaryk
Federal district Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk issued an order withdrawing the FDA’s approval of mifepristone. A panel of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Judge Kacsmaryk’s ruling and ordered that the ruling go into effect immediately. The US Supreme Court reversed the 5th Circuit and issued an unusual order that effectively told the 5th Circuit it could not ban the distribution of mifepristone until the Supreme Court ruled on the matter. In other words, the Supreme Court put the 5th Circuit on a “time out” for bad behavior.
A panel of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals held oral arguments on the merits of the appeal today. The hearing was an embarrassment. The judges acted like petulant children who were upset that they had been reprimanded. Worse, they made no pretense of maintaining impartiality or objectivity—or adherence to the rule of law. The obscene display of judges following personal religious convictions rather than the Constitution is explained by Mark Joseph Stern in Slate, The 5th Circuit is furious that the Supreme Court put it in mifepristone timeout.
I highly recommend reading Stern’s article in full to get the full flavor of the hearing. Stern is at his best in this article. He writes, in part:
And here’s the punchline: Nothing these intellectual Lilliputians do will even matter. The Supreme Court has already decided that the 5th Circuit cannot be trusted with this case: In April, it froze the court’s previous decision stringently limiting access to mifepristone, expressly maintaining the freeze until the justices themselves take further action. Elrod, Ho, and Wilson are howling into the wind; they have no power to change a thing about federal regulation of medication abortion. The adults in the room have already put them in time-out. And rather than demonstrate that they can judge responsibly, they seized on Wednesday’s hearing to throw a combination temper tantrum/gaslight party. No lessons have been learned, no maturity acquired. This time-out probably isn’t ending anytime soon.
Ho read aloud random people’s criticisms of the FDA and made Ellsworth respond to them, then declared that federal courts should override the FDA’s scientific determinations because the agency isn’t trustworthy.
These are not serious people. This is not how real judges conduct themselves. This was barely a judicial proceeding. It was a struggle session in which three anti-abortion zealots yelled at attorneys who have already prevailed in this case once at the Supreme Court. Their rage should have been aimed at SCOTUS, but it’s not a good look for lower courts to trash-talk their superiors, so they redirected it to Harrington and Ellsworth instead. (Erin Hawley, wife of Sen. Josh Hawley, argued against mifepristone; the less said about her unceasing stream of shameless falsehoods, the better.)
I also recommend Talking Points Memo, Right-Wing Judges Mulling Restricting Abortion Drug: Isn’t The Real Problem Here How Mean You All Were To Kacsmaryk?
If we had a functioning Supreme Court that cared about the rule of law, it would castigate the 5th Circuit panel for its shameful display of bias, animus, and religious zeal.
But, as Stern notes, the 5th Circuit cannot restrict the distribution of mifepristone. And the failure of the 5th Circuit to address serious legal questions—like the absence of standing by the plaintiff doctors—may doom the 5th Circuit’s opinion to a chilly reception in the Supreme Court. We can only hope.

Greg Owen at LGBTQ Nation:
Former President Donald Trump on Thursday scrambled to salvage any hope of earning the votes of suburban women and others opposed to Republican efforts to strip them of their bodily autonomy, even denouncing his state’s six-week abortion ban and promising free in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments. “We want more babies, to put it very nicely,” Trump pandered. Fearing the impact of two years of judicial and legislative assault on reproductive freedoms in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which ended federal protections for abortion rights, Trump went on offense Thursday, trying to soften his image on the issue.
At a town hall in Michigan hosted by the anti-LGBTQ+ former Democratic Congresswoman and failed presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard, Trump claimed not only that he was a big supporter of IVF but that a second Trump administration would pay for the treatments.
“I’m announcing today in a major statement that under the Trump administration, your government will pay for, or your insurance company will be mandated to pay for, all costs associated with IVF treatment,” the former president said in Potterville. “And for this same reason, we will also allow new parents to deduct major newborn expenses from their taxes so that parents that have a beautiful baby will be able, so we’re pro-family,” Trump continued. “I’ve been in favor of IVF right from the beginning,” Trump added. He didn’t specify how the free treatments — which normally run into the tens of thousands of dollars and higher — would be paid for or who would be eligible. IVF is a popular family-building tool for LGBTQ+ people. [...]
“I kept hearing that I’m against it, and I’m actually very much for it,” Trump reiterated at an event in Wisconsin later in the day.
The Harris-Walz campaign wasn’t buying it. “Donald Trump’s own platform could effectively ban IVF and abortion nationwide,” said Sarafina Chitika, a campaign spokesperson, following Trump’s promises of free stuff. “Trump lies as much if not more than he breathes, but voters aren’t stupid,” she added. In another effort to gaslight the public on Republicans’ true intentions around reproductive freedoms, Trump prevaricated in an interview with NBC on whether he would support Amendment 4 in his home state of Florida. The ballot initiative would render moot the state’s draconian six-week abortion ban in favor of restrictions in line with Roe.
Donald Trump is deceiving the American people by feigning support for IVF and limited abortion rights. In reality, his real stance (along with Project 2025 and the GOP’s plaform) is do nothing on (or ban) IVF usage and oppose abortion.

Do you still meet some of the members of the sheild of solus from time to time like elita, moonracer and firestar?
"Zoomy" Arcana Magnus: We do. Danielle and I adore hanging out with them when we can. We stayed together as a unit for much of the War, combining frequently all the way through to our deployment alongside the Wreckers and Autobot Intelligence to defeat the Decepticon Justice Division's last major fortress and liberate the prisoners there- including the prototype Primus/Unicron planetoid form who took on the name Gaea and Cybertronian she pronouns after our attached Cityspeakers and Greenlight helped cut through the Funcronist* code impeding her processes.
*(Funcronism is an amalgam of Functionist and Unicronist ideologies, and Funcronist infiltration of the Decepticons and running their judicial faction while gaslighting Megatron was instrumental to the Decepticon's descent from autocratic stratocracy into totalitarianism which was eventually responded to with the Decepticon Civil War, a story for another time)
And we stayed together after that. Those who didn't already live there moved to Caminus with me, dear neighbors and extended family besides darlings Greenlight and Lancer and Chromia (Chromia's more Windblade, Nautica, Road Rage, and Strongarm's partner but my end of the polycule does enjoy tangling with her from time to time, sparring and dancing in particular something we enjoy among other aspects of intimate trust that we smooch over occasionally). Though Cybertron is currently the political capital of the Autobot Alliance once more, there is much talk about moving the gathering of our highest delegations and councils back to Caminus, which was the de facto capital for a significant portion of the war. Elita, Galebreach Convoy (Windblade's formal Prime name) and I and many other Primes have already set up a secondary Primal Expanse here, no easy feat with how much Matrix cyberform architecture we had to do, exhausting. Anode (also a Matrix bearer, she elected not to change her name), had an innovative approach of having blacksmiths aid us in the shaping, so it at least took less time than it did in ancient days for Solus and her early colleagues.
Lifeline and I tend to chat over a boardgame or meditate together. Moonracer and I love to go racing, Firestar of course I see frequently since she is amicably enamored with Nautica and her Amica Endura polycule (consisting of four previously named alongside Rung, Nightbeat, Brainstorm, Velocity, and Skids), and Elita, Greenlight, Lancer, and I have spent quite a bit of time learning Cityspeaking in order to stay in touch with Gaea.
"Arcsword" Danielle Witwicky: the Shield of Solus has also grown as an organization in peacetime. Given my position in it continuing the now ancient transformer society iteration of multispecies membership in nearly every intergalactic group transformers have had a major part in forming- we have had more from the galaxy join us in this capacity and have become teachers of a sort about the War, and about peace. I'll never forget the look on Solus's face when she told us thank you, for transforming her name into something far beyond her status as a Prime. A delta vector of change, an amusing parallel to the Delta League of Prof that instead reclaimed a monarch Solus's Forge of Solus Prime as gender expansive symbology and because of the history of her federation closely entwined with affirmation practices and gender affirmation across Cybertron before the First Cybertronian Civil War (this name of a conflict we've mentioned here is a canonical conflict in IDW1, where "Prof" Arcee is from but nothing else we have said in regards to that continuity in this post is canonical).
"Prof" Arcee: though I worked with a Novastar (no, not the Camien Firestar, a different gal, the military civil guard commander of Uraya early on during Nova Prime's rule) and Lifeline in the Delta League, what I would have given to have Greenlight, Chromia, Lancer, and Moonracer of my world beside me in the often armed liberation movement against Functionism and Nova Prime- save for the fact that I would never have wished that upon them. The way conflict went on and on and how most of us left was so sad... I would chalk it up to how equivalently annoying it would be to live for 4 million years as guerrillas against a Shockwave whose first response to discovering the Shield of Solus was to yell "FEMALES!?"
"Pistoleer" Arcee: yeah your Shockwave and mine were real pieces of work when it came to gender huh. I'm glad to still be in touch with my Shield of Solus team, they did vital work for the liberation and defense of Cybertron and Earth during my more well known adventures (this is also not canonical per se, if only). Being away from Greenlight and Lancer often was excruciating even though duty demanded we attended to our posts, I thankfully no longer have to worry about that. We still hang out together, actually currently we are looking for colonies we lost contact with or that fell, in particular to keep be able to respond in places where er 'Female Autobots didn't go extinct' which is impossible without destroying the two entwined ideas and all sapient life...
Prof & Pistoleer: *laughter*
"Pistoleer" Arcee: that said directly experiencing Danielle's two adolescences through our binary bond was maybe one of the largest challenges I myself have faced, and I was certainly amused by the second one, and did all I could to help her with both. No wonder organic bodied people have a hard time with hormones, with all the stuff they do! Truly admirable how you all live in your flesh.
"Flanker" Danielle Witwicky: right back at you. A Cybertronian staying in good health means a lot of mechanical upkeep, and I feel it every time Lifeline has to give you a tune-up. The fact you don't heal the same way I do makes things complicated.
"Pistoleer" Arcee: touche kiddo.

Like, I know canonically Manfred is a respected prosecutor and intimidating figure in and out of the Japanese judicial system so the reveal of his crime was absolutely devastating to basically everyone but I love the idea that Manfred has always been absolutely apeshit to the point it’s a well known fact. Like, he’s seen as both an elusive beauty and a fucking insane creature who when you first hear about what he did you’re like “ that doesn’t make sense” but then you think about it for like two minutes and realize it makes perfect sense. Whatever crazy shit Phoenix done ( eating glass, calling animals to the stand) he’s done it and similar stuff, only a million times more insane. He’s eaten evidence before and had even been caught licking blood from a crime scene ( which the detectives and police were done examining with, to his insistence). Manfred isn’t trusted with evidence anyway, he’s concerningly clumsy to the point he’s damaged critical pieces of evidence before. He sidetracked meetings and investigations by talking about his kids. He has gotten into fights with all sides; not just the defendant and their defense attorneys but his own clients, the judge, those watching the court proceedings, etc. Manfred heavily worships the concept of karma and the system he works in to the point of fanaticism. He wore non formal clothes to work once and everybody lost it. He kept trying to assault Gant, who amusedly allowed it. He’s had vaguely homoerotic relationships with all the masc people in his office. He casually dropped the fact Manfred isn’t his real name and never elaborated on it. He claimed he and his wife married for tax benefits. They do not pay taxes. He’s said gaslight gatekeep girlboss in casual conversation. He liked to curse at people super quickly in German which lead to people believing he was hexing them. As revenge for people attempting to prank him on April’s Fools Day he spent months terrorizing the office by pretending he was strictly embracing Buddhism doctrine and culture only to end up developing a genuine interest in the religion. He’s… my favorite pimp cane user.

Oh, Friendo…
If you’ve been carrying guilt around since 2000 that your vote for Nader gave Bush the Presidency, then let me relieve you of it.
You lot may have gotten blamed for it, but no matter what the corporate media may try to gaslight you into believing, I assure you, it was not your vote for Nader, nor that of any of your comrades, either individually or collectively, that gave Florida to Bush.
It was the folks who voted for Pat Buchanan instead of Gore because the ballot was confusingly designed. Those are the fuckers who did the deed, and they should all burn in hell forever!!!
Nah, I’m kidding.
But rest assured, your vote didn’t cost Gore Florida because Gore actually won Florida! IDK if the info has been scrubbed from the internet (which is a actually series of pipes) but it came out that Gore did indeed get more votes than Bush.
It was the Supreme Court — or more likely the folks on the Supreme Court who owed their jobs to Bush’s daddy — who took action unprecedented in American history to stop the recount and appoint Bush President-by-judicial-fiat.
Now I know your immediate reaction to this information is probably, “The Supreme Court? Taking partisan political action? And carrying water for fascists? Not in MY America, buddy!” But I’m sorry, it’s true.
It was never the fault of you voting your conscience. Rather it was the “vast right-wing conspiracy” that Hillary famously called out during her campaign, that bears full and complete responsibility.
And if you further insist that your group of Florida Nader supporters were the sole and exact people who made the tally so close in the first place, I would ask you to examine why it’s so important to you to claim personal responsibility for the results of a national election, when almost half the voters in the country voted for Bush directly. What are they, chopped liver?
But in any case, let me once again assure you that 1.) the folks who designed the hanging chad ballots that confused folks into mistakenly voting for Pat Buchanan, and 2.) W’s brother and Governor of Florida Jeb, and 3.) Katharine Harris, W’s Florida campaign manager and the person legally empowered to 'certify' (wink, wink) the vote count, and 4.) a whole crew of other folks, some of whose names we know — like Karl Rove — and a whole lot more whose names we will never know, all of them together put in much more energy and intention, and bear WA-A-A-AY more — like, 1701 times more — direct responsibility for ensuring Florida’s electoral votes went to W by any means necessary, than all the Nader voters in all of American history.
No matter what the cops and the corporate media tell you.
So I say let the kids vote their conscience.
Unless they live in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, or Wisconsin, of course. Then they need to vote blue or we’re totally fucked forever.
when i see people express sentiments like this, my thought is pretty much “who exactly are you trying to prove a point to?” the democrats? if trump gets elected, they’re going to be completely sidelined if not worse and will be entirely focused on trying to get back in power and i can tell you they will NOT be moving further left. netanyahu? it’s a BETTER outcome for him if trump wins since trump is SIGNIFICANTLY more pro-israel than biden has ever been. the people in gaza? they need a ceasefire which has been rejected by both the israel and the hamas sides multiple times and a trump win WILL NOT make that a stronger possibility.

'Snackle' boxes because vacation priorities.
Law school applications are DONE.
[I didn't get to cross this off the list as soon as anticipated because I failed to realize that the third of the three remaining applications *also* required a supplemental writing submission. Not to panic, though, as it was merely an inquiry about how one would make online classes work for them. A few edits to the document prepared for another school asking how one would make time for 30 hours of study a week and we were good to go.]
Issue 5 is completed.
[Thank God, because I can't handle any more of John Marshall and friends *actually* trying to argue that 'necessary' is definitionally interchangeable with 'convenient,' 'beneficial,' and 'useful.' Words have MEANINGS, sir. There's literally nothing to prevent you from handing down whatever stretch of judicial interpretation makes the Constitution say what you want it to say. So just do that. There's no need for this insulting gaslighting re: 'Does 'necessary' really imply 'necessary'? ...indeed it does?? ...and, like, when you talk about these 'approved authors' who have a 'common use' of 'necessary' to mean 'merely' 'convenient' *or* 'essential' (which are FAR from the same thing!)...who are these people?! ... Nevermind. It doesn't matter.
Issue 6 calls upon Wickard v. Filburn which is one of the first foundational SCOTUS cases that really got me interested in Constitutional law. It will be nice to have something I'm looking forward to in order to help motivate me post-vacation.]
Robespierre is packed.
I owe one to my regular coworker who, back from his own vacation this week, consented to stay over and wait for a very late train when *I* was actually working the shift that would usually be the one to stay. We hadn't seen railroad drama like that in quite awhile. The scheduled 3am got in about 8'oclock. It sat behind a freight train with cars on fire - cars once removed, toppled over and blocked the main - requiring heavy equipment to clear the right of way.
This caused *all kinds* of problems for us and our passengers, not the least of which was what to do about the connecting bus that takes connections from three different trains. Coworker was the real MVP. It's because of him that I was able to get all of the things accomplished.
Super honorable mention goes to fav coworker who sent, via her husband, a souvenir for me from Disneyland! It's this *STUPID CUTE* Mickey ears train conductor hat. As much as was possible at that given moment, my day was absolutely made. Pics to follow.
Was so busy with aforementioned accomplishments this morning that I missed Liz on Meet The Press. She was fantastic, per usual. I love her the way she loves that blouse she's worn at her last five public appearances. 😂
I so appreciate her tenacity and consistency both for all the good her work is doing generally and so as I have no reason to be embarrassed about the personal statement I submitted to five different law schools telling them she’s my inspiration.
I've packed enough clothes to be away for a month and snacks like they don't have food in Tennessee.
Must be time for a road trip!

Donald Trump scrambles to make voters think he supports abortion & IVF rights
Former President Donald Trump on Thursday scrambled to salvage any hope of earning the votes of suburban women and others opposed to Republican efforts to strip them of their bodily autonomy, even denouncing his state’s six-week abortion ban and promising free in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments. “We want more babies, to put it very nicely,” Trump pandered. Related Southern Baptists just voted to oppose IVF Republicans are scrambling to combat the perception that they’ll ban IVF in an election year, but many religious conservatives oppose the procedure. Fearing the impact of two years of judicial and legislative assault on reproductive freedoms in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which ended federal protections for abortion rights, Trump went on offense Thursday, trying to soften his image on the issue. Your LGBTQ+ guide to Election 2024 Stay ahead of the 2024 Election with our newsletter that covers candidates, issues, and perspectives that matter. Subscribe to our Newsletter today At a town hall in Michigan hosted by the anti-LGBTQ+ former Democratic Congresswoman and failed presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard, Trump claimed not only that he was a big supporter of IVF but that a second Trump administration would pay for the treatments. The Alabama Supreme Court ruled earlier this year that fertilized embryos had the same rights as children and adults, and their destruction in the process of IVF was murder. Assigning “personhood” to fertilized embryos is at the heart of Republicans’ efforts to ban abortion and hasn’t changed despite Trump’s efforts to paint a more moderate picture. The ballot initiative would render moot the state’s draconian six-week abortion ban in favor of restrictions in line with Roe. “Well, I think the six weeks is too short. It has to be more time,” Trump said. “And I’ve told them that I want more weeks.” Shortly after, the Trump campaign walked back the candidate’s declaration. In a statement to CNN, Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said, “President Trump has not yet said how he will vote on the ballot initiative in Florida, he simply reiterated that he believes six weeks is too short.” Both the Republican platform and Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation’s Christian nationalist-inspired blueprint for a second coming of the former president, redound with policy aimed at curtailing the right to choose. While the platform was watered down to avoid any mention of a national ban on abortion, both that document and Project 2025 lay the groundwork for revoking… http://dlvr.it/TCllR0

AU where Adrien was diagnosed as trans as early as it's medically possible for that to happen, got puberty blockers and HRT and so on, and Gabriel seems to be very accepting and reasonable about this... But what's actually happened is that thanks to a combination of his own disinterest and a bit of judicious gaslighting by Emilie he's forgotten about it.
Adrien isn't sure how to feel about that, but figures it's probably less aggro than the alternative.
trans adrien is my favourite headcanon bc it implies that
1. trans acceptance in the mlb universe is incredible
2. gabriel is okay with his kid being trans but he draws the line at being friends with a dj

By • Olalekan Fagbade Presidency attacks Peter Obi over Comments on Supreme Court judgement Mr Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Monday urged the Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to “prove his belief in Nigeria.” In a statement titled: “Peter Obi should find better vocation instead of casting aspersions on the Judiciary”, Onanuga also admonished Obi to find another worthwhile vocation to engage his time henceforth. “If Mr Peter Obi truly believes in Nigeria, the time to prove it is now when all men and women of goodwill are rallying support for President Bola Tinubu in his determination to lead a new era of prosperity, inclusive governance and economic growth. “Our admonition to Obi is to find another worthwhile vocation to engage his time henceforth, having been rejected by majority of Nigerians who didn’t consider him qualified to lead our country. “Nigerians rejected Peter Obi and his demagoguery at the poll because he posed present and future danger to the peace, progress and stability of our country,” Onanuga said. The presidential aide said Obi’s antecedents as Governor of Anambra for eight years didn’t inspire any confidence as someone capable of running a country like Nigeria. According to him, no tangible records of achievement in the state he governed recommended him for the Presidency of Nigeria. “The LP presidential candidate in the last election, Mr Peter Obi, addressed a press conference, just like Atiku Abubakar, where he cast aspersions on the Supreme Court. “He also attacked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for not declaring him the winner of the February 25, 2023 election. “We are at a loss as to how the copy-cat Obi and his faction of Labour Party convinced themselves they won an election in which they came a distant third.” He expressed surprise at the grand delusion that made Obi believe he could have won a national election where he ran the most hateful, divisive and polarising campaign that pitted Christians against Muslims. “His campaign also tried to pit ethnic groups against each other in a multi-ethnic and multi-religious society like Nigeria. Such grand delusion should be a matter for deeper examination.” “At the press conference where he tried, in vain, to gaslight Nigerians with false claims and innuendos, Mr Obi contradicted himself. “Here was a beneficiary of judicial pronouncements in the past now castigating the same court because its judgment did not go his way.” Onanuga said Obi claimed the Supreme Court Justices didn’t consider public opinion in delivering what has been applauded as a most profound judgment in an election appeal. “Incidentally, the LP candidate presented the most watery and unreasonable petition before any court in the history of electoral cases in Nigeria. “He made false allegations of rigging and other electoral malpractices yet could not produce any evidence to back up his claims at both the court of first instance and at the apex court. “In a failed effort to mobilise and retain the support of his supporters, Obi gave them a forlorn hope that he won the election and would prove it before the courts. “Throughout the trial, his lawyers didn’t present any alternative results different from the results INEC uploaded on the IReV portal and the ones signed by all party agents from the 176,000 polling units. “We wonder how the LP candidate expected the courts to do justice on the basis of rumours, lies and false narratives by sponsored partisans and fanatical members of his ‘Obidient Movement’ “We expected the LP candidate to know that the supreme court or any other court does not give judgment based on public opinion and mob sentiments.” The presidential aide noted that judicial pronouncements are based on evidence, precedents and the rule of law. “Having admitted that the supreme court ruling brought an end to litigation and any challenge to Tinubu as the validly
elected leader of Nigeria, Obi should have congratulated Tinubu for his victory and pledged his support, in the spirit of statesmanship. “But instead, he brought up extraneous matters that he thought the apex court should have considered to declare him the winner. “In our view, the drowning Obi, just like Atiku, was merely attempting to hold on to a straw in raking up new allegations, which exist only in his imagination and that of his hordes of supporters. ” Onanuga, therefore, enjoined Obi and his party to play the role of the opposition and start preparing for another shot at the presidency in 2027. “We hope by then he would campaign on issues and not whip up religious and ethnic sentiments as he did in the last campaign,” he said. Pro-XRP attorney John Deaton has been honored with the inaugural Defender of Freedom Award by the International Congress of Blockchain Legal Advisors (ICBLA). This award recognizes individuals and entities that have displayed exemplary dedication to upholding freedom in the crypto community, and Deaton’s selection for this honor comes with a $5,000 prize. The Achievements Of Deaton Deaton’s work in the crypto space, particularly concerning the digital asset XRP, has been pivotal. He empowered digital asset owners to counteract SEC enforcement actions, creating a strategy that many view as a defense against the SEC’s broad attempts at regulation, an official press release by ICBLA states. His dedication to the cause was evident as he represented tens of thousands of XRP holders in the notable case of SEC v. Ripple Labs et al. without charging a fee. Highlighting the importance of Deaton’s contributions, the summary judgment by Judge Torres in the SEC vs. Ripple Labs case referenced Deaton’s amicus brief. Daniel Payne, an ICBLA senior fellow, commented on the award’s relevance, saying, “The Defender of Freedom award is unique in the crypto world. It represents a commitment to safeguarding the very essence of the crypto world– the freedom to innovate, grow, and transform the global business landscape. We applaud John’s creation of a new paradigm: federal judges now grapple with non-party token holders early and often.” James Murphy, a leading securities lawyer and a respected voice in crypto legal commentary, weighed in on Deaton’s recognition. He said, “I can’t think of a better choice for the Defender of Freedom award. John represents something in short supply in our society—a real, authentic hero. John’s selfless service is in the finest traditions of the Marine Corps where he retired as a Major. He lives by the motto—Semper Fi—always faithful.” XRP Community Propelled His Efforts In a detailed post on X (formerly Twitter), Deaton delved deeper into his journey, emphasizing the collaborative fight against the perceived injustice by the SEC. Deaton started by underscoring the award’s collective nature: “I accepted this generous award on behalf of 75K people who were willing to fight back.” He expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, with over 12,600 individuals initially joining his motion to intervene in the case, a move that marked a departure from traditional SEC enforcement actions. “When I filed a Motion to Intervene, 12,600 people joined, asking the judge to become actual defendants in the case… NEVER had thousands of investors petitioned a Court to be sued.” Deaton also elaborated on the SEC’s tactics, criticizing their attempt to provide testimony without firsthand accounts from XRP holders. The attorney credited the collective voice of the XRP community for preventing such tactics, stating, “We didn’t let the SEC gaslight the Judge… That nonsense was excluded by the Judge b/c we offered 3,600 Affidavits.” Deaton highlighted key moments when collective action swayed judicial opinion, citing specific instances where community members like Naomi Brockwell in the LBRY case played a pivotal role. “Judge Torres in a footnote cites the January 30, 2023 hearing where I asked the Judge to clarify his ruling… If Naomi doesn’t grant me permission to represent her, and go against the SEC, that footnote by Judge Torres never occurs.” He concluded by reiterating that the award he received was a testament to the collective spirit of the entire XRP community and their refusal to be silenced. “Without all of them, my efforts would’ve been a fart in the wind. So when I accepted this great award, I accepted it on behalf of all of them.” At press time, XRP traded at $0.50719.
