I think we all know this part of the poem
Tumblr media
BUT I wanted to talk about another part:
Tumblr media
The tone of this is very much a shared feeling of anger, yet drawing a line between the poets and the readers anger. Saying "This is you" and "This is me". It seems like she is saying "This anger and me are interchangeable. I am my anger. " and thus "Your anger and you are interchangeable. You are your anger. " But then you keep reading
And she keeps going! With kindness!
Tumblr media
So not only is she reminding the reader to care for themselves still, regardless of all their anger, that seems to have consumed them to the point it feels like synonymous to their personhood, their soul; no she is also assuring you that that is not the case at all!
You are not your anger! You deserve to eat still! To not feel like an overflowing pot! You deserve to get better!

Hi! Do you have any recommendations of books that explore the relationship between queerness and Judaism? Thanks so much!
Yes, absolutely; this subject also interests me so I am excited to share some books!
First, the book I always recommend:
Tumblr media
Beyond the Pale Elana Dykewomon
Another favourite of mine:
Tumblr media
The New Queer Conscience Adam Eli
I also recently got a fantastic list from a patron in our discord!
A Rainbow Thread: An Anthology of Queer Jewish Texts from the First Century to 1969 Noam Sienna
Balancing on the Mechitza: Transgender in Jewish Community Noach Dzmura, Tucker Lieberman
Uncommon Charm Emily Bergslien, Kat Weaver
Torah Queeries: Weekly Commentaries on the Hebrew Bible Gregg Drinkwater, Joshua Lesser, David Shneer, Judith Plaskow
The Soul of the Stranger: Reading God and Torah from a Transgender Perspective Joy Ladin
I hope this list helps!

Let me tell you a story about love: She had a soft voice and strong hands. When she sang she would seem too large for the room and she would play guitar and sing, which would make his chest feel huge. Sometimes he would touch her knee and smile. Sometimes she would touch his face and close her eyes. — War of the Foxes, Richard Siken

“However, the commentaries pointed out that Ehyeh asher ehyeh also means “I will be what I will be.” Instead of essence, this reading defines God as a pure becoming, a fountain of potential constantly bursting through the crust of existence and realizing itself in the world. This is a God of action, a restless verb that refuses to stand still or be fixed, a hummingbird-like blur of transformative energy that has always moved on before we can quite bring it into focus, an arrow whose trajectory opens new horizons. The God this name defines isn’t found through meditation or stoic shrugging-off of reality, but by the opposite: by recognizing and participating in the revolutionary God-energy bubbling through the tumult of life and history.”

HI I SAW YOU HAD STUFF ABOUT QUEER ART HISTORY AND QUEER RELIGION?? IM SO INTERESTED!! are there any specific facts that you found really cool?
facts! HM! ill stick to religion just to keep this from getting huge. i'd start by saying that almost every major religion has had queer people involved in it historically. I'll throw a few facts out but as a disclaimer, like most broad facts, these actually have a lot of nuance beyond what I'm telling you :D so do not use me as an authority! -Both Judaism and Islam recognize more than two genders, though most sects only privilege male/female -most Christian cathedral/church architecture is modelled after vaginas/wombs/etc in order to gender the church and its worship as female to make their union with God (masculine) acceptable -A huge part of the popularity of jesus' cock and balls being depicted in art was to make him relatable -Mukhannathun is a gender-variant designation within Islam with a rich history and a few of my favourite readings: joy ladin 1, 2 on trans + judaism and a google drive folder with some of my favourites including 2Spirit, and judaism! i had more on Islam but JSTOR is an annoying b and puts your IP all over your downloads, soz. (my suggestion would be: Omar Kasmani, "Of Discontinuity and Difference: Gender and Embodiment Among Fakirs of Sehwan Sharif,)
