not Nancy Emmy gleefully declaring that Ipswitch It Up would be a musical and knowing full well that the cast were not musical-officianados

the biggest hightlight was watching Shields go down in flames LMAO

jokes, the real highlight was 'Physically' and Sue Harrison's sweet rap skills!!!!!

I mean, those run-on rhymes?? we love to see it!!!!!!!

also, Sue just straight up naming all the lads as women was such a power move lol

(yo listen Sue carried Ipswitch It Up and that's the hill I'll die on lmao)

oh and Niall having the funniest rhyming night lolol

the iconic: "the time is now, you're here by a bridge / here in the town of Ip-puh-suh-witch" - Niall

probs why Dave decided he'd roast the hell out of Niall in this one LOL (it's ok tho because Dave's other character becomes the sidekick of Niall's character Simon so he's not lonely!!! :') lowkey v wholesome tbh lol)

I mean, there isn't much more to say except reference the 'smoke a pipe' rhyme - if you know you know (and you probably know XD)

but fr, despite the chaos of this one, it actually has one of the sadder endings of a Mischief Movie Night In, so we absolutely gotta applaud Sue and Josh for carrying the emotion in this one

(and also again, just give mad props to Sue for riding the wave of chaos that comes with trying to wrangle all those lads LOL /affectionate)

Personal Device Bans in Schools and the Consequences

I remember the introduction of calculators in the classroom. Well, I thought I remembered it. I looked it up and apparently the use of calculators started in the mid 70’s, before I would have been at the grade level when calculators were used. The arguments used for keeping calculators recycle over time as other new technologies are introduced, such as computers, the internet, smart phones, and artificial intelligence. The last two of these, smartphones and artificial intelligence, are currently two of the biggest issues in educational technology. 

Smartphones (and other personal devices) are a bit unique because they represent a concern that has resurfaced. When introduced, smartphones were largely seen as a distraction, but this started to change with Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policies. Educators started to harness student devices as a resource. Students were allowed to use their devices in class as part of their learning—for research, access to educational apps or websites, and product creation like videos, to name a few. When used correctly, students could learn how to use their personal devices responsibly and as a productive tool. 

BYOD also allowed for device access in school districts where there was not enough money for one-to-one device programs. When the world went into lockdown during the Covid-19 pandemic, supplemental funds were allocated to provide devices and wifi access for as many students as possible, so learning could continue even with everyone stuck in their homes. The pendulum is swinging the other way now that we are back in the physical classroom. 

Some legislators are arguing that personal devices only serve as a distraction, and that most students have school-provided devices anyway, however, there are considerations with this thought process. The first, is that school-provided devices like laptops and Chromebooks require funding for upkeep and replacement over time. These devices were purchased using emergency funds and money for upkeep is not always guaranteed. Many school districts with limited funds are likely to face challenges as their devices eventually become outdated or break, if they haven't already encountered these issues. This brings us back to a digital device divide issue, where some districts have devices for students and some do not. Legislation mandating all-encompassing device policies for school districts could exacerbate this issue, as each district has its own unique needs.

The other issue is that we may be able to eliminate device access during the school day, but we will never be able to eliminate device access permanently (nor should we). It is important for children to learn how to responsibly use technology, and this can be effectively taught during the school day. As educators, it is not our job to just teach content knowledge and academics. It is also our responsibility to teach students about character and digital citizenship. By prohibiting devices in the classroom, we are missing opportunities to teach our students important skills like responsible use or how to use a device productively rather than only as a consumer. Responsible use skills also include knowing when it is time to take a break and put the device away.

a couple months ago i had a lot to say about josh constantly using the idea of breathing in his lyricism in the discord (join it if you haven't already !!!) and i figured i'd share my thoughts with tumblr as well:

"you're barely breathing i know" "just breathe" "you chase it breathing in and out" "laughed aloud to drown it out so i could breathe" "i wish i could breathe without getting it stuck" "you've lost your breath" "i just need a breath" "i can't find my breath" "i can see you open up to breathe" "i breathe disaster" "one last breath" "your breath comes crashing in" "inhale 'til your lungs get sore" "can we catch a breath" "breathe, i'll just slip through the spaces in between" "to the air we breathe" "i felt it breathing"

something about,,,, the way breathing is a quiet moment, a pause amidst the chaos,,, it's a moment of serenity and peace,,,,, the way it changes over time to move from him and his struggles and suffocation to her and them and the shared quiet,,,

the way astoria has absolutely no use of the word breathe or references to breathing because it was written during a time that was so suffocating and overwhelming that simply describing the breathlessness isn't enough. to simply say "woah so much is happening i can't quite catch my breath" wouldn't capture those feelings as well, because it's more than that.

(this goes vaguely in hand with the ongoing references of silence and company, especially when the subject of the breathing moves from josh specifically to amanda/their relationship:

"can't you stay where you are" "heavy hush takes hold, the quiet won't let go" "we stayed close to keep warm" "everything goes quiet, it's like i just can't move" etc etc.)

with regards to how astoria has no mention of breathing i noticed how josh replaces that breathlessness with a more paralysis esque theming and i think it has so much more of an impact on the story* that the album is trying to tell:

*the story being the events of the past 4 years and not an actual fictional story ofc

"wanna throw them out / i'm just not able"

"it's like i just can't move"

"i can't even say your name"

and one love as a whole has a lot of night terror/sleep paralysis vibes as well.

what's more devastating than suffocation? the paralysis. because when you're suffocating at least you know you're still feeling and your body is still working, but to experience so much that your body as a whole just,, stops working ?? it invokes such a powerful feeling that, like i said before, the breathlessness just can't quite capture as well.

AND when you combine that paralysis with how astoria is calling back to a time where josh had major writer's block?? the sharp contrast in writing that you feel too much (i need to breathe or slow down) and then writing that you can't feel at all (i can't move—the world is still),,,,,

and then her every interaction with Koala Jeffreys - mate, Shields is a pro because if Bryony spent half the movie just patting my head, I'd be done lads (gender neutral)- that's like catnip to me lmao

and to cap it all off, she chucked in a rhyming couplet for her last line, just for kicks

Mini-review:

I'm honestly surprised by the amount of hate this season has been getting from fans. Was it as good as the previous two? Maybe not, but it's still miles ahead of almost everything else on TV these days. I guess the problem is the first two had specific endpoints in mind (saving The Beef and building The Bear, respectively) and this one doesn't, which is what makes it feel rather adrift. Still, I don't think that's a bad thing, per se. This shift means plot takes a step back to focus almost completely on the inner workings of the restaurant and the characters, which in turn helps us learn so much about all of them. Seriously, how can you say it's a bad season when we get episodes like the one about Tina or the one about Natalie and her mother? And sure, the plot might not advance too much, but we get a true acting masterclass in every episode. So yeah, this season of The Bear might be slower and more contemplative, but in my opinion it's almost as momentous as the first two.
