[4.6k] as the season dwindles on and the new year approaches, luke comes to a handful of realisations. some of them were unsurprising. some of them were not. one of them leads to a very interesting interaction during his captain's new years party. (smut)

.
Whoever said it was better to be self aware was a fucking liar.
It had been a few weeks since the Hughesbowl and Luke had come to a few realisations in that time. Some epiphanies that had been tormenting him over sleepless nights as the season dragged on into December and quickly approached the end of the year.
One: No matter how many times he had said it before, Luke still couldn’t quite grasp just how different NHL hockey was to the hockey he had been playing his whole life. And it sounded stupid to say, considering he had grown up being around NHL players and had two brothers in the league before him too. But it was tiring and rewarding and, fuck, he didn’t think he had ever been so hungry in his damn life before he joined the NHL.
Two: Adulting in college versus adulting in real life was weird, different and not as fun as he liked to think it was when he was growing up. He felt like he spent most of his free time fighting the washing machine, wondering if groceries had always been this expensive and bribing Jack to do things for him when it got too overwhelming or confusing. Which, also wasn’t great considering his brother was just as helpless as he was, and Quinn was too far away to bother.
Three: Despite the concerns tucked away in the back of his mind when he signed his first contract with the Devils, none of the team had made him feel like he was just Jack’s younger brother. He knew Nico had said as much at the start of the season, but experiencing it and really feeling like a part of the team brought a fuzzy warmth in his chest that he wasn’t quite ready to confess to anyone—but it was a nice feeling that followed him through the season, even after the losses.
Four: Figuring out you were kind of in love with your friend who also offered to take your virginity was not exactly the best crisis to be having in the middle of your rookie NHL season. But he was having said crisis regardless and there wasn’t much he could do about it.
And five: the Devils took New Years very seriously.
As in serious enough that Jack was looking at him like he was the crazy one at this current moment.
“Did you hear what I just said?”
Luke blinked, his spoon hovering awkwardly over his bowl of cereal as he stared at his brother across the table. “Yeah no, I heard you. I am just trying to wrap my head around why you decided to tell me at—” His eyes glanced over at the clock on the wall before returning to Jack. “Seven in the morning that I am banned from leaving the state for New Years?”
“Because you’ll make Nico sad,” Jack said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Luke put his spoon down. “Nah, you’ve still lost me.”
Jack let out a deep sigh. “You can’t upset him like that, Luke. He’s our captain.”
“And me leaving the state in the three days off we have between games around then will upset him?” Luke deadpanned. He wasn’t even planning on leaving. He doesn't even know where he would go. But his sleepy brain almost wanted to pretend he had plans just to spite Jack right now.
“Duh,” Jack huffed. “He throws a New Years thing every year. Jonas missed it once when he had some family in town and Nico was pouty as fuck after, even if he didn’t admit it. It’s, like, a team bonding thing for him. Hockey families and real families coming together.”
Luke blinked. “It’s way too early for me to understand half the words that just left your mouth.”
“Plus we have a game on his birthday,” Jack added with a shrug. “It will probably be a double celebration.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Luke grumbled as he shoved another spoonful of cereal into his mouth. “I’ll be there. You know I’d be there. I don’t get why you’re asking.”
Jack didn’t say anything for a moment before he spoke again, trying (and failing) to sound casual. “He doesn’t mind if you bring some guests. The more the merrier.”
Luke bit back his yawn. “Who would I even bring?”
Jack shot him a deadpan look. “You’re so dumb.”
“Whatever,” Luke murmured, almost tempted to lay his head down on the counter and fall asleep right there. “M’not gonna miss Nico’s New Years party, don’t gotta get defensive about your boyfriend.”
Jack let out a noise that sounded vaguely close to a squeak. “He is not my boyfriend—”
Luke zoned out after that.
It wasn’t until a few days later, when Luke was sprawled on the floor in some feeble attempt of stretching his muscles after a late morning gym session, that Jack’s words made sense.
He stared up at the gym room ceiling, listening to the various noises around the room: machines humming, metal clinking, guys talking. It was oddly soothing, almost mindful. These were noises Luke was familiar with, that he sought out to cling onto when the noises in his head were a little more irritating. It reminded him that he was actually there in the moment.
“Are you stuck down there?”
Luke blinked as a shadow suddenly casted over him, taking a few seconds before he saw Nico staring down at him with an inquisitive look, though he seemed more amused than concerned.
“Cardio days suck,” was all he was able to supply, his hands resting on his stomach as he made no move to sit back up or head towards the locker room to shower and change.
Nico just snorted, shaking his head in a way that almost seemed fond. “Welcome to the big league.”
“Every league has cardio,” Luke replied, a little snottily if he was honest with himself. “And it sucks no matter what age you are.”
Nico’s grin just widened in response.
For a moment, Luke was happy to just lay there for a few more minutes and let Nico wander off to go check on some of the other guys dotted around the gym. He knew his captain, knew he was doing his rounds and knew that he would have done them anyways, regardless of the ‘C’ on his chest because that was just the type of person Nico was. Luke was happy to let him shift that attention onto someone else.
But then Nico turned to head towards Haula and Bastian on the treadmills and a thought suddenly entered his head and Luke was opening his mouth before he even realised it.
“Hey, are you still doing your New Years thing?”
Nico paused, his face brightening up. “Yeah, I am.” He paused, his smile faltering a little. “Why, can you not make it? I swear Jack said you could—”
“No, yeah, I am,” Luke answered quickly, scrambling to sit up a little so he would feel less exposed. He ran his fingers through his curls, wincing a little when his pinky nabbed a tangle before making his eyes meet Nico’s curious gaze. “I was just wondering if it would be okay if I brought someone.”
Nico’s shoulders dropped in relief but his head tilted in interest. “Brought someone?”
“A friend,” Luke supplied.
“A friend,” Nico repeated, looking as though he was biting back his grin. “Yeah no, bring her with you. The more the merrier.”
Luke raised his brows. “How did you know it was a her?”
Nico smiled knowingly. “Call it a captain’s hunch.”
Luke frowned. “That’s not a thing.”
Nico just shrugged in response.
He tried not to let the question linger too much, instead finally forcing himself to finish his stretches before heading towards the locker room. The noise of his teammates blurred in the background as he reached for his phone, typing out a message before heading towards the showers.
hockey boy: u got any plans for nye?
“You suck.”
“I literally don’t know how else you expected me to answer the question.”
“I asked you what the dress code was and you said ‘nice’,” you scoffed, shooting the boy a look as you settled into the passenger seat of his car. “Nice isn’t a dress code. Nice doesn’t tell me if I should be wearing jeans or a dress.”
Luke tried—and failed-–to bite back his grin as he glanced over at you. “I see you went with the dress.”
“No thanks to you,” you retorted with a small huff, but your lips were already twitching upwards. “I would rather your teammates think I am weirdly overdressed than weirdly underdressed.”
“They won’t think you are weird,” he assured you, deciding not to point out the fact you had been around them on previous occasions and had never ran into that issue before. He didn’t think you would want him playing know-it-all. “But maybe stay away from Curtis.”
He could hear the glee in your voice, even if he didn’t turn his head around. “Scared he will give me some ammo against you?”
“Yes.”
You laughed, shaking your head. “My new favourite Devil.”
Luke rolled his eyes, also deciding not to mention the small burn of jealousy that bubbled in his stomach at your obvious joke.
“Don’t worry,” you said after a few moments of silence, playfully knocking your hand against his thigh. “I wouldn’t embarrass you in front of your people.”
Luke snorted. “My people?”
“Yeah, you athletes are all super weird about your teammates. You guys kinda seem more like a cult than a family but it’s cute,” you teased. “Does this mean I get to join the cult for the night? Special access?”
“We aren’t a cult,” Luke scoffed, choosing to also not mention the handful of weird superstitions half of his teammates complete before every game.
“But they are important to you,” you retorted.
Luke nodded, smiling a little softer. “Yeah. They are.”
“Then I’ll keep the fact you thought the Titanic was a documentary a secret,” you concluded, snickering when the boy let out an exaggerated groan.
“It’s based on a real ship, okay!”
“Yeah but Leonardo DiCaprio wasn’t on the ship back in 1912 when it went down.”
“Whatever, there was room on that door and everyone knows it,” Luke grumbled, sniffling slightly before he turned to glance at you once again as the car came to a stop at a red light. “You’re important to me too, you know.”
You turned your head to look at him, wiggling your eyebrows. “Working towards a midnight blowjob instead of a midnight kiss?”
“I—no,” his cheeks burned hot and he was suddenly glad the car was too dark for you to see the full extent of how red his face must have been as memories of you on your knees—of his number on your cheeks—flashed to the front of his mind. “I mean it. You’re important to me.”
You blinked, your smile faltering a little when you realised he was serious. “Oh.”
“Like,” Luke quickly cleared his throat. “We’re friends, right? My friends are important to me.”
“Yeah no, of course,” you laughed, and maybe it was still a little awkward and stilted but he was glad you weren’t jumping out of the car and running off. “I didn’t realise I reached cult level though.”
Luke smiled. “Maybe just for tonight.”
“Knew it!”
He turned his eyes back to the road for the rest of the journey to Nico’s place.
Luke knew he shouldn’t have been eavesdropping. He knew that. He didn’t even mean to. It just kind of happened somewhere between him disappearing into Nico’s kitchen to look amongst the weird European beers and ciders until he could find two flutes of champagne for you both and walking back with said flutes in hand to overhear you talking to Jack.
Jack, who he remembered being on the other side of the room almost on Nico’s lap, before he left to grab your drinks.
“You watch our games?”
Luke paused, a voice in his head telling him to take that step forward, to walk back into the room, to intervene before Jack inevitably embarrassed him. The other—and louder—voice kept him put, holding onto the champagne flutes tightly as he listened.
“Yeah, the ones I can.”
“Really?”
“You sound surprised.”
“Guess I just wasn’t expecting it.”
“I mean, I don’t understand a single thing that is happening.”
“Luke hasn’t explained the game to you?”
“Oh no, he has. I still don’t get it. But hey, the commentators tell me you guys are pretty good.”
Luke listened to the way Jack laughed, noted how it sounded more like his actual laugh rather than the stilted media one.
“I’m surprised Luke had the balls to invite you.”
Luke’s eyes widened, his cheeks growing hot again as he silently vowed to trip Jack up during their next practice for that line.
“Am I that scary?”
Jack didn’t respond for a moment. “I don’t think it’s you he’s scared of.”
“What? He thought you guys would scare me away?”
“We can be overwhelming.”
“You guys fight other grown men on ice for a living, I think I can survive.”
Jack laughed again. “Mom would love you, you really know how to keep a guy humble.”
“You mean keep his ego in check.”
“Professional athletes with egos? Unheard of.”
This time it was you who snorted out a laugh.
“You’re not what I expected, Cherry.”
“Is that a good or bad thing?”
But before Jack could say anything, before he could possibly embarrass Luke any further and continue whatever weird interrogation he had going on with you, Luke quickly rounded the corner and practically shoved a champagne flute into your hand whilst shooting his brother a look.
“Shouldn’t you be bothering Nico or something?”
Jack shot his brother a knowing look, glancing between the two of you before he took a step back. “Yeah, I guess I have a few things to tell him.”
Luke narrowed his eyes.
“It was nice to meet you, Cherry,” Jack said earnestly, tipping his beer bottle towards you. “Maybe I’ll catch you at the house. It would be nice to see Luke around instead of running off to yours.”
You snorted. “I’ll see what I can do.”
Luke watched the new but playful camaraderie between you and his brother. The banter and the shared laughs at his expense. He watched it as he chugged a mouthful of champagne, hoping the bubbles would drown the other fluttering feelings he was feeling in his stomach.
“I’ve been looking for you.”
You snapped your head around, your smile widening a little when you found Luke standing by the door of the guest room. His sleeves were now rolled up, a few more buttons of his shirt unbuttoned and his curls looked as though they had been ruffled by a drunk and very handsy Haula more than once.
“The main bathroom was occupied so Nico said I could come in and use the guest room bathroom,” you explained, nodding your head towards the other door.
“And you decided to hide in here afterwards?” Luke asked, mostly playful and teasing but there was a hint of concern in his voice. The team could be a lot sometimes and, despite the fact you seemed more than capable of holding your own, the last thing he wanted was for you to feel uncomfortable and as though you couldn’t leave.
“I got intrigued,” you shrugged as you gestured towards the bookshelf that seemed to take over a large portion of the guest room wall. “How many languages does this guy know?”
Luke snorted as he walked deeper into the room, sitting on the edge of the bed with a small huff. “I think three?” He shrugged, leaning back against his hands.
“That must be so cool,” you murmured, your eyes flickering over the book spines before turning back to look at Luke. “Do you know any other languages?”
Luke shook his head.
“None?” You laughed in disbelief. “Buddy, most of your teammates down there speak English as a second language and you haven’t picked up anything?”
“Do three words in standard German count?” Luke retorted, playful and sheepish all at once. “Jack tried learning on Duolingo for, like, two weeks to try to impress Nico during summer before realising Swiss German and standard German are different.”
You shook your head, trying to bite back your smile as you wandered closer. “F for effort on your part. I’m pretty sure Jonas taught me more in one conversation than you’ve learnt all season.”
Luke rolled his eyes, his fingers twitching against the comforter with the urge to reach out for you. “It can be my New Years resolution.”
“Yeah? You have a list?” You questioned, watching as he spread his legs without thinking and let you into the space like it was instinctual.
He shrugged. “I try. Achievable stuff, you know?”
You raised your brows. “Like?”
“Eat better, workout more, start a new hobby,” he listed off, trying and failing to keep a straight face as he finally gave in, as he finally reached for your waist to tug you even closer to him. “Learn a new skill. Or improve on ones I already know.”
You hummed, your hands resting on his shoulders as your fingers skimmed the fabric of his shirt. “Hockey skills?”
Luke glanced up at you, swallowing a little. “Not all of them.”
Your lips twitched upwards.
His thumb smoothed over your hips, feeling the small details of your dress under his touch. “What’s on your list?”
“I don’t have one,” you admitted with a shrug. “No point to it. If I want to do something, I’ll do it.”
“Sounds like one of the media trained answers we are forced to give,” Luke teased, pressing his thumb a little harsher to gain your attention when your head tipped back with a laugh. “No, but really. There’s nothing new you wanna try?”
“Are you offering?” You retorted, lighthearted and teasing.
“Yeah,” he rasped. “Maybe I am.”
Your head tilted slightly, your hand moving to lightly grasp the back of his neck. “We probably shouldn’t. I hate to break it to you, Hughes, but you’re not very quiet once you get going.”
His cheeks burned but he didn’t tear his eyes away from you. “Who said I was the one getting off?”
And that seemed to catch you by surprise.
“Pretty boy is feeling confident, huh?” You mused, your fingers brushing against the curls at the nape of his neck. “As hot as it is, I don’t think we have time.”
And your words sent a spark through, soft and buzzing and persistent. A spark that he knew very well, a spark that made his grip on your waist tighten. A spark that he felt every single time he stepped onto the ice.
“Is that a challenge?” Luke asked, his voice a little lower than he intended.
You smirked, shaking your head. “Depends what you have in mind.”
His heart was pounding in his chest, loud and strong and overwhelming, but it didn’t stop him as he leaned his chin against your stomach. “I want to make you come.”
Your eyes wandered over his face, at the pure determination in his eyes. “Oh?”
“Mhm,” he nodded, his hands trailing down the side of your thighs. “That’s on my list too.”
Your lips twitched. “Thinking of becoming a ladies man? Live up to the hockey sex god stereotype?”
He shook his head. “No. Not other girls. Just wanna make you come.”
You didn’t have a reply for that.
“I wanna make you come right now. In here.” There was a flicker of something else in his eyes that you couldn’t quite read.
Your brows lifted slightly.
“If you want to,” he added, his hands squeezing the back of your thighs. “Consent is sexy, you know.”
“Show me what you’ve got, pretty boy,” you murmured, leaning down to close the distance between you as you pressed your lips against his.
The rest of the world was a distant buzz in the back of his mind once you finally kissed him, his shoulders dropping with some unexplainable relief that only being around you seems to bring. Your fingers were already in his curls by the time his tongue swiped over your bottom lip, leaving the boy groaning and gasping into your mouth as you tugged him closer.
You pulled back for a second, to catch your breath and appreciate the flush on his cheeks before leaning back in. But it was enough. It was enough to have his mind spiralling faster than he could even keep up with.
For a split second, you weren’t smiling down at him. For a split second, the two of you were back in his car and you were staring at him with an expression he didn’t understand, an expression that made his stomach turn nonetheless. For a split second, he was just staring helplessly at you as you doubted the words he said.
And whilst Luke never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the shed, he knew it would be a monumentally stupid idea to repeat the words. He knew that if he repeated the words he said in the car, if he tried to insist on their truth, you would shut down again.
And he didn’t want that.
Not at all.
But the overwhelming and insistent need to show you what you meant to him was bubbling inside him, swirling along with the bottled up feelings and glasses of champagne he had drank over the course of the night.
And if he couldn’t tell you, he would show you. He would make you see that you were important to him, that this unlikely and unconventional friendship may have started with you helping him but he was in this for you too.
That your pleasure was important to him too.
He swallowed your gasp with another kiss as he tugged you closer, as he finally broke whatever restraint the two of you had until you were finally on his lap. Or, almost on his lap. But when you tried to shift in his hold, when you tried to straddle his lap properly, Luke’s strong grip on your waist kept you locked in place.
“Stay,” he murmured, swallowing harshly as he leaned back enough to watch the confusion wash over your face.
“I thought—” You started but he was already shaking his head.
“Like this. I want to get you off like this,” he confessed, his voice rasping as he tried to pretend like his whole body wasn’t thrumming with excitement and nerves and something else he wasn’t quite ready to name. “On my thigh.”
You tucked your lip between your teeth. “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” he nodded.
“Fuck, Luke,” you murmured under your breath before pulling his lips back onto yours through the hold you still had on his curls.
He sunk into the kiss as easily as he breathed, moaning softly when he felt your tongue against his own. His hands clung onto you, squeezing your waist like he needed to make sure you were actually there, like this was real and not some sex-crazed dream he would wake up from, half-hard and alone in his room.
But the silk of your dress remained under his touch, soft and smooth and bunching in his fists as he clenched the fabric in his hold. And then his hands started wandering as you continued to kiss him senseless.
He pushed the skirt of your dress up until it pooled at your waist, until his hands were engulfing and squeezing your thighs. His fingers continued to skin upwards, until his fingertips were brushing against the waistband of your panties, until he could hear the small gasp you let out as he lightly traced them.
It made his head spin the way you were straddling his thigh, the way he could feel the warmth of your cunt pressed against his leg, feel it through the fabric of the dress pants he wore for the party. It made his head spin how he wished he could pull them off, how he wished he could just feel you with no boundaries between.
His hands were pawing at you before they started to guide you, rocking you back and forth on his thigh. It was slow and deliberate, almost unnoticeable until the first choked out noise you let out between the soft kisses he was giving you.
“C’mon,” his voice was low, rough, full of desire. “Want you to take what you want.”
One hand remained entangled in his curls but the other shifted down to grip his shoulder, to dig your nails into the fabric of his shirt as you continued to follow the pace he set. It shouldn’t have felt so good, but it did. It felt so fucking good with his sweet words smothering the slow pace he refused to relent.
“Shit, Luke, I—” You cut yourself off, biting down on your lower lip as he continued to guide your hips, as he continued to let you grind yourself against his flexing thigh.
“Whatever you want,” he murmured out, feeling like he was in a daze as he watched your eyes flutter shut. You were breathtaking when you let the pleasure take over, when he got to see you with no walls up and unguarded. “Just tell me.”
“More,” you managed to mutter out, your head falling back as you continued to ride his thigh, to feel the rush of what you were doing just down the hall from his teammates wash over you. “Fuck, fuck, fuck.”
“Look so pretty like this,” he whispered because he couldn’t help himself, couldn’t hold the thought back even if he wanted to. “Wanna make you come more, Cherry baby, shit.”
Because he did. He wanted to do this a million more times if he could watch you like this for the rest of his life. He wanted to see you riding his thigh, unashamed and unabashed, so lost in your own pleasure—pleasure that you were receiving from him—that you had no other worries in the world.
He wanted to watch you lean your head forward against his shoulder, his name leaving your lips between soft moans and a list of curse words as your orgasm washed over you. He wanted to watch the way your body shook with the after effects, the way you clung onto him like a lineline.
He wanted to watch the way you lifted your head, giving him a smile so soft that he felt like the rug was pulled out from underneath him.
“I have been severely underrating hockey thighs all these years,” you muttered, your smile widening a little more when Luke let out a disbelieving laugh.
Luke couldn’t tear his eyes away from you if he tried. “What? No thank you?”
“That’s your thing, pretty boy, not mine,” you teased before you relented, leaning forward to press a soft but lingering kiss on his cheek. It was somehow the most intimate act you shared in the last fifteen minutes. “Ten out of ten for your thighs.”
Luke swallowed harshly. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
“Good, because that won’t be the last time we are using them,” you said to him, so sure of yourself and unaware of the muddle of thoughts in his head at that moment.
“Happy New Years, Cherry,” he managed to mutter out, not even sure if the clock had passed twelve or not. But it was the last of his concerns when you smiled at him.
“Happy New Years, Luke,” you murmured softly.
And yet, all he could think about was how he wanted to hear those words leave your mouth every year.

filling the void (4) II a.putellas x sister!reader

prequel one two three
filling the void (4) II a.putellas x sister!reader
you looked up from your coffee as the front door opened, your sister walking through and pulling her headphones down around her neck clearly having gone for a run.
"bon dia hermana." she greeted as you only nodded, sipping on your coffee and breathing a small sigh of relief when alexia headed toward her bedroom.
when she returned a few minutes later her headphones were gone and she'd taken off her runners, padding her way into the kitchen to make herself a coffee and start breakfast.
as you sat at the bench drifting away into your own world alexia was stuck in her head just as much as you were, between worries for eli and worries for you her mind was a mess, only worsening after your confession last night.
a confession which you were praying to every and all god that alexia wouldn't bring up, already incredibly embarrassed about your outburst at the hospital you didn't think you'd handle having to confront anything else head on right now.
olga could sense the tension in the room before she even entered, needing to head off to madrid for a few days for work she'd spent most of this morning worrying about what might happen while she was away but alexia had been firm that it was important she still go.
"hola pequeña." the older girl greeted you as you sent her a smile, alexia glancing over her shoulder in surprise when you didn't make any comment on the use of the nickname, though really she should figure she'd lost the right to battle you about that anyway with her behavior lately.
"amor you called jona sí?" olga murmered, alexia nodding and stealing a kiss when you weren't looking as if you were still a child, the captain having taken the next two days off from training to make sure she was around with everything going on.
"two days, more if i need them." alexia murmured, olga smiling appreciatively knowing how hard it was for her girlfriend to take time off, her work ethic just as dangerous as it was admirable at times.
both girls turned their heads as you awkwardly cleared your throat, alexia wordlessly raising an eyebrow as your fingers drummed anxiously against the ceramic walls of the coffee mug clenched tightly in hand, the beverage itself now long gone luke warm.
"can you take me home please? i have work at nine." you asked quietly, alexia hesitating for a moment as if unsure of a response. "you don't want to come to the hospital?" your sister asked carefully, olgas hand moving to rest on top of hers on the counter.
"i have to work." you answered again, a little firmer this time. "hermana if you call your boss and explain i am sure that-" alexia tried again as you shook your head. "i have to work. i have my routine and i need to be home to follow it, all my things are there. alexia can you please take me home?" you stood abruptly, jaw clenched as you smoothed out the clothes you'd been wearing for the last near twelve hours.
as alexia opened her mouth her girlfriend gently tapped a finger against her knuckles in a silent warning. "i can take you on my way to the gym nena." olga stepped in with a smile as you nodded, alexia watching you hurry away to the bedroom to grab your phone and house keys.
"why does she not want to-" alexia frowned as her girlfriend shook her head, cutting her off. "leave it ale. you need what you need, and fresa needs what fresa needs." olga warned softly, hand tracing the catalan's sharp jawline which tensed but none the less the blonde nodded.
"do you want-" "i'll cook something when i get back before my flight mi vida, go see your mami." olga kissed her cheek, alexia sending her a small smile and pecking her lips a few times in silent appreciation before you returned.
"ready to go?"
~
"-no there's still no update, she's still not really awake yet and she's still on the ventilator." alexia explained with a sigh, on her way back to the car and on the phone for what felt like the hundredth time today, having swallowed the bullet and starting to reach out to close family members to let them know what happened.
"tía i promise as soon as she is awake and less high risk i will call you right away, for now she is not allowed many visitors. alba and i only saw her for a few minutes today and we were waiting for hours." alexia fished her keys out of her pocket and hummed, the rapid spanish on the other end of the line the same thing she'd heard all day.
"sí fresa is okay, alba and i are looking after her." alexia spoke on autopilot despite the way the words felt like ashes in her mouth, an incoming call having her rapidly finish up the conversation, abruptly hanging up and clicking accept.
"hola hermana." alexia sighed tiredly, holding the phone between her ear and shoulder as she paid for her parking and rolled her eyes at the high price but tapping her card none the less.
"were you picking fresa up from work?" alba asked, a slight worry to her tone as alexia frowned, stopping in her tracks. "no. she said you were picking her up, olga dropped her off this morning." alexia answered, hurrying to her car.
"well thats what i thought too. but i am here, the clinic is closed and she is not here, nobody is." alba replied, having left the hospital a couple of hours ago. "mierda. maybe she took the bus? i can go past mami's house now to check if she is there." alexia decided, promising to keep alba in the loop as she hurried out of the parking garage.
alexia wasn't sure to be relieved or annoyed when she pulled into the driveway and noticed the house lights were on, the blurred shadows of a figure moving behind the drawn curtains could be just faintly seen.
knocking on the front door a few times alexia tapped her foot, frowning when the door only opened a slight crack and your head poked out. "what?" you asked, a little bluntly as your sister seemed taken aback.
"alba went to pick you up from work and you were not there, we were worried." alexia started as you rolled your eyes, still refusing to open the door properly. "i finish early on mondays." you answered.
"oh, i didn't know." your sister frowned as you scoffed slightly. "why would you alexia? i'm surprised you both even know where i work." the older girls cheeks flushed a little with warmth.
"hermanita-" 'don't, please." you cut her off before she could speak, not in the mood for the conversation you knew she'd want to start right now.
"pack a bag then, you can stay with me again tonight." your sister forced a smile as you gave her an odd look as if she'd grown a second head. "why?" though when all you received in response was a knowing look, your eyes rolled once more.
"alexia, go home. i am fine here by myself, i have work tomorrow again and i already told you i have a routine." you sighed trying to close the door, frustration growing as the blondes foot wedged in the way.
"then i will stay here, i still have some things in my room." the girl persisted as you shook your head. "you don't need to, and i don't want you to." you replied sharply, though you winced as something thudded behind you.
"oh but you are fine by yourself? who is here with you." alexia's demeanor switched as you kicked at her foot and attempted to shove the door closed but to no avail as your sister easily overpowered your attempts and pushed it open, nearly sending you to the floor as she marched in like a mad woman.
"who is that!?"
you scrambled to your feet and quickly snatched up the four year old who went running toward your sister, sitting her on your hip as alexia stared at you wide eyed and in shock.
"whose niña is this?" alexia stammered out as you sighed and closed the front door. "this is sofía." you introduced, alexia's face softening a little at the shy gap toothed smile the small girl gave her.
"sof this is alexia, she's mi hermana." you introduced back, alexia giving a small wave and melting even further at the way sofía tucked her head into your neck. "since when are you shy pequeña?" you teased, a giggle sounding as you poked at her stomach.
"okay sof, how about you go watch your show while i finish dinner and talk to alexia. if you need anything you come get me or just yell out, vale?" you placed her back down as she immediately hid behind your leg, peeking out at alexia who gave her another wave.
"vale." the four year old chirped, tugging on the hem of your shorts as you bent down to her level, something whispered in your ear making you laugh and tickle her again as she giggled and raced back off to the living room.
"she's one of my friends daughters, her baby sitters sick so i offered to watch her." you explained to your sister who nodded, a little dumbfounded as she followed you back to the kitchen.
"have you been here alone with her all day?" alexia asked with an air of concern as you stirred whatever you were cooking, which your sister wouldn't deny smelt leagues better than anything she made herself these days.
"no, just a couple hours. elena does night school monday through wednesday to get her doctorate, whenever her baby sitter isn't free i watch sofía. normally i'd go to her house but with everyone going on she thought it might be better if i had sof here." you spoke quietly, glancing over your shoulder every couple of minutes to check in on the tiny brunette giggling away at a brightly coloured kids show on screen.
"you look after her by yourself?" alexia asked, shock hardly disguised as you rolled your eyes moving the sauce off the heat and huffing.
"yes alexia, believe it or not i can keep another human being alive for a few hours. i've had enough practice looking after myself!" you snapped, pausing to close your eyes and take a breath.
"i don't want to argue in front of her. i told you i'm fine, you've seen i'm okay, go home alexia, your home." you sighed, turning your back to her again after you'd peeked at the living room over the top of her head.
"fresa i also don't want to argue." your sister started a lot softer as you began to dish up dinner. "you know i want to fix this, alba and i want to fix things." alexia promised as you stayed silent, though before either one of you could speak a new voice piped up.
"you're really tall. way taller than my mami!" alexia jumped a little in surprise as sofía now stood next to her looking up in wonder. "is dinner nearly done?" she shot now next to you, tugging again on the hem of your shorts as you looked down with a soft smile.
"nearly. you hungry?" you questioned as the four year old nodded enthusiastically. "so hungry!" she groaned dramatically sagging against your leg as alexia smiled, suddenly slammed back into the memory of when she and alba would look after you at that age and you too would never leave her alone when she was trying to cook.
one memory in particular sat heavily with the captain as she watched you teasingly shove sofía away and take a test mouthful of the food, groaning loudly and happily as the girl hit your leg and huffed opening her mouth wanting to try for herself.
it was another night where both her parents were working night shifts and a sixteen year old alexia had been left to look after her sisters, alba hidden away in her room taking another one of her teenage angst my life is awful i hate everyone naps she so adored at that age.
alexia had been at training all afternoon, currently playing at Levante, and received the news from the coach that she wouldn't be starting this weekend which now made three weeks in a row.
it had put a dampen on the girls mood significantly, feeling quite lost as to what else she could do to prove herself. she already stayed back, arrived early, trained at home, worked on her skills in every way possible she could but still, nothing seemed to be good enough.
it hadn't helped that with eli only recently picking up night shifts you were still adjusting to the change in your routine, used to your papi not being around after dinner but missing your mami, which lead to you being even more clingier than usual.
"fresa!" alexia huffed as she turned and nearly stepped on you as you hovered by her feet after being sent away a few minutes ago, hugging her leg and refusing to let go no matter what.
"fresa please let go." alexia asked as nicely as she could manage, temper rapidly becoming shorter and shorter as you refused to listen to a single word she said.
first it had been refusing to take a bath, hiding under alexia's bed right against the wall where she couldn't reach you and even going as far as to bite the tip of her finger as she finally grabbed a fistful of your shirt and pulled you out.
next it was trying to drown her in a tidal wave of soapy water when she finally got you into a bath, soaking the clothes she'd not long changed into after her own shower.
but still alexia managed to hold her tongue, speaking to you softly and encouragingly as eventually you sat down and allowed her to wash your hair.
but then you'd ran around half dressed and still wet for half an hour, finding endless amusement in the way your older sister just couldn't catch you, giggling and screaming with delight as alexia resisted the urge to kick you like a football when she finally scooped you up and forced you into the rest of your pyjamas, towel drying and braiding your hair so it was out of your face.
well braiding it as best she could as you'd squirmed and wriggled and kicked, whining that alexia didn't do it right and that it was too tight and then it was too loose and that only your mami knew how to do your hair right.
a full blown tantrum over your hair which took alexia a good half an hour to calm you down again had seemingly tired you out as your sister left you on the sofa with your favourite movie on.
alexia now an hour later than planned started on dinner, stress building as it rapidly neared your bed time and the brunette feared any more disruptions would only worsen your behaviour.
she'd gotten halfway done with dinner before you grew bored of your movie, alexia's attempts to wake up alba to help only resulting in a shoe flung at her head and a door slammed in her face as she resisted the urge to strangle the younger girl.
it seemed the cure to your boredom was to latch yourself firmly to your eldest sisters leg, curling around her like a monkey as no amount of shaking or begging had you letting go.
with all of that happening alexia had almost burned dinner, patience now a thin veil as she firmly yanked you off her leg and placed you down, shooing you away and promising dinner was almost done.
though of course you hadn't listened and immediately returned to hover under her feet now bringing a toy crane your papi had gifted you. and it was the small piece of plastic alexia had stepped on with barefeet, causing her to trip and a hand to shoot out to stop herself from falling.
that hand falling on the stove had meant another wave of pain rocked her body as she hissed and saw red, nearly tripping over you once again as you made noises with your mouth and sat on the floor between her legs refusing to move.
"why do you have to be such a pain! why can't you listen! i said to leave me be and you hover under my feet and trip me and do not go away! go away fresa!" alexia had lost it at this point, flying entirely of a dangerously unbalanced handle as she yelled.
but all of that anger drained from her body in a millisecond like someone had dumped a bucket of ice water over her head as she watched your eyes well up with tears, crane clattering to the floor.
"no no no hey pequeña-" alexia cooed softly immediately dropping to her knees and reaching for you but you were gone, sprinting away as fast as your small legs could take you as alexia's heart broke and she stood, quickly pulling the pot off the stove and running after you.
she checked your room first in all the usual hiding places but came up with nothing, calling out for you and begging you to come out, apologizing over and over but even in her own room she couldn't find you, worries growing with each passing second.
alba's door now locked she knew that was out of contention, and her body flooded with relief as she stepped into her parents bedroom and caught sight of your leg in the mirror where you'd wedged yourself under their bed.
"fresita." alexia called out softly, her chest aching at the sniffles which could be heard from your hiding spot, the older girl sitting cross legged on the floor and begging you to come out with no luck.
you refused to say a word bar the tiny sniffles and hiccups that left you, sounds of pain which were much too large for a body as tiny as yours as alexia's own flooded with guilt for her outburst.
"hey fresa ven aquí. nena i am so so so sorry for yelling, i didn't mean it promesa. please come out, lo siento mucho hermanita please." alexia continued to beg, leaning down to peer at you under the bed as you caught her eye with another sniffle, rolling over so you were facing the wall and tucking into yourself even tighter.
with a sigh alexia ran a hand through her hair, jumping as a hand landed on her shoulder, surprised to see alba now stood behind her. she frowned a little as the younger girl sat beside her, pulling something from her pocket and placing it just under the bed.
"fresita." alba cooed, voice thick with sleep as you turned under the bed, spotting your favorite chocolate bar sat a few feet away.
as alba noticed your tiny hand reach out for it she placed a finger on top, pulling the treat a little further away as you frowned and wiggled closer, though again it was tugged just out of reach.
this game of cat and mouse continued for a while until the chocolate bar sat on the floor between your sisters and eventually your head peeked out from under the bed cautiously, both older girls smiling down at you.
you watched them for a moment as neither of them made any move to reach for you, aware one sudden movement could be all it took for you to reatreat again.
when they didn't move you slowly wiggled the rest of your body out, reaching for the chocolate and snatching it, both your sisters holding their breath but sighing quietly as you sat up and didn't seem inclined to return under the bed.
"i'll go finish dinner." alba murmured as you struggled to open the chocolate, alexia sending her a grateful smile as she disapeared out of the room.
"do you want me to open it pequeña?" alexia asked softly as you nodded, shuffling a littler closer as your sister took it from your outstretched palm and opened it, handing it back.
as you took a bite this time alexia reached for you, relieved when you put up no fight as she sat you in her lap, arms protectively wound around you and her face buried in your hair.
"tickles!" you huffed as alexia exhaled tiredly, wriggling around as your sister smiled and turned you in her lap, grabbing under your arms and standing you up so you were both eye to eye.
"fresa. i am very very very sorry for yelling and for if i scared you, i am not mad at you." alexia promised as you nodded and her thumb swiped at the tear tracks under your eyes with a pained smile.
"sorry i tripped you." you whispered out, looking down guiltily as alexia's finger tilted your chin back up so your eyes locked with hers once again.
"its okay hermanita, i know you did not mean to. you just miss mami, sí?" you nodded at that as alexia tugged you into a tight hug, peppering kisses along the crown of your forehead.
"i miss her too fresa, but we will get better at this, we will." alexia promised, cradling your head as you nodded into her chest. "but sometimes when mami is not here and i ask you to do something, i need you to do it, vale?" alexia murmered as you pulled your head back.
"vale. sorry ale." your bottom lip wobbled again as alexia was quick to catch the rogue tear with her finger, kissing your cheek repeatedly and carefully standing still with you held tightly in her arms.
"the kitchen can be dangerous sometimes fresa, especially sat on the floor or attached to my leg like a little monkey." alexia warned tickling at your stomach as you giggled and a wave of relief washed over her seeing you smile again.
"you're just my best friend ale and i don't know what to do without you." you mumbled tiredly with a yawn as your head slumped on her shoulder, fatigue clawing at you as it was now past your normal bed time as alexia melted and almost cried, exhaustion hitting her as well.
"oh mi precioso fresa you are my best friend too. forever and ever and ever nena, promesa."
"my mami stabs people! what do you do?" sofía was now stood back next to alexia, smiling up at her clearly no longer as shy as the older girl was flung into reality, blinking a few times as she adjusted and tuned back in.
"elena works with me at the clinic." you quickly clarified with a small amount of amusement seeing the mild horror flicker through the older girls eyes as she registered what sofía had said.
"i play football. do you like football?" your sister dropped down to the girls level, the two of them chattering away and before you could blink suddenly sofía was tugging her away to the living room with her.
you glanced over a few minutes later to see the two of them sat cross legged on the floor, alexia trying to teach sofía some sort of clapping game as you sighed and dished up a third bowl of the meal.
"dinner is done." you called out, ensuring the stove was fully off as within a blink there was an eager four year old climbing up into her chair as you chuckled and handed her a fork.
"you may as well stay, i know olga is the cook anyway." you gave your sister a small smile as alexia did her best not to let a grin overtake her face as she sat down across from the two of you and you slid her a fork.
"gracias fresa." alexia smiled as sofía paused mid mouthful to give you a curious look. "she calls you strawberry." the brunette pointed out as you nodded. "she does, thats my favourite fruit." you poked at her nose as she huffed and smacked your hand away.
"when she was your age all she wanted to eat was strawberries, for every single meal." alexia added on pulling a stupid face at the girl who giggled. "you can't do that silly!" sofía shook her head at you.
"can too, and strawberry milk." you grabbed a napkin and sofía's chin in your hand, wiping the copious amount of food which missed her mouth away as she whined and tried to push you off.
again alexia was hit with a wave of nostalgia, vivid memories of when she sat in your chair and you sat in sofia's, the smile fading from her face as her stomach churned with guilt, somewhat grateful for the small four year olds constant chatter meaning neither you or alexia really had to interact much.
"alexia do you have a football? can we play?" sofía grabbed your sisters hand once she was done helping you clear the table, hitting the catalan with the best puppy dog eyes she could muster not unlike you did all those years ago when you were determined to get your own way.
you caught her eye and the slight raise of her eyebrow, pausing for a moment before sending the blonde a curt nod. "i'll wash up." you declared, dismissing her attempts to offer help as sofía pulled impatiently on your sisters hand.
"sí, i have lots of footballs nena. ven conmigo and you can choose one!"
~
you'd been keeping a close eye on the pair as they raced and chased one another around the backyard, the summer evening sun starting to fade fast as you dried and put away the last plate.
you'd like if you said it hadn't shocked you a little to see your at times quite awkward sister be so open and care free with sofía, you having caught her earlier chase the small girl around the backyard pretending to be a football eating monster.
you'd be lying to yourself if similarly to alexia watching their interactions didn't bring up any thoughts or feelings toward your own childhood but in no state of mind to unpack that just yet you squashed it deep deep down and refused to acknowledge it.
you were stood on the back steps just about to call the two of them in now the sun was near fully set when it happened.
all it took was a misplaced step and suddenly sofía was falling head over heels, skinning her knee on the brick retaining wall of the small vegetable patch in the corner.
alexia's sisterly instincts kicked in as she raced across to comfort the now crying girl but you beat her to it, quickly lifting sofía up and into your arms as you bounced her up and down.
"hey hey hey nena its okay! you're okay. just a little fall sof, you're okay." you repeated over and over, your sister watching on a little dumbfounded as you hurried inside, alexia grabbing the football and following.
"hey you're a big girl right? big girls get skinned knees! its all a part of growing up sof." you sat her down on the kitchen counter as her cries turned to hiccups and she nodded.
"its okay to cry though nena, its good to cry sometimes! never let anyone tell you you're not allowed to. sometimes tears can be happy as well!" you kept the girl engaged as you cleaned her knee, poking at her stomach and making jokes, her giggling distracting her from the alcohol swab wiping away at the small graze.
"now, i need someone really really special to help me make a very important decision. anyone?" you asked, holding something behind your back and making a silly face, sofía nodding eagerly as her hand shot into the air.
"anyone? does anyone want to help?" you pretended not to notice, looking around as the four year old huffed and alexia smiled softly hovering nearby watching the interaction. "me! me me me!" sofía chanted impatiently as you sighed.
"i guess nobody wants to help!" you threw your hands up and turned to go as a small hand grabbed a fistful of your t-shirt and tugged. "oh! do you want to help me sof? why didn't you tell me!" you teased, jabbing playfully at her sides as she squealed and kicked at you.
"i will help." the girl nodded as you did the same. "okay. mickey mouse, or goofy?" you held up two different plasters as sofía's face lit up and she instantly pointed to the goofy one.
asking her to sit still for a moment you carefully applied the plaster over the small graze, kissing the top of her knee and standing up straight away. "all fixed! i think we do not need to cut this off...yet." you grabbed her foot and inspected her leg with a frown.
"hey!" the brunette gasped as you pulled a shocked face and ruffled her hair, picking her back up again. "bath and bed." you pinched her nose as she groaned but made no move to fight, going limp in your arms as you smiled and kissed her cheek.
"i'm just gonna..." you jolted a little admittedly having forgotten alexia was still here as you noticed her, your sister nodding in understanding.
"don't go yet! i wanna say goodnight." sofía yelled to alexia over your shoulder as the girl promised she wouldn't and took a seat on the sofa, exhaling as she did so, head swamped with a tidal wave of memories, only worsened as she stared around at her childhood home.
alexia hadn't realised how long she'd been trapped in her own mind but what felt like mere seconds later a body was latched to her leg and you were waiting in the hallway, arms crossed and a large wet patch on your shirt where the four year old had gotten a little too enthusiastic with the plastic duck she always had with her.
"buenas noches alexia. it was fun playing with you!" sofía smiled a little more tiredly now, climbing onto the sofa and hugging the older girl tightly who perhaps clung on a second or so too long, flashes of when it was you hugging her goodnight still lingering at the back of her mind.
"it was very nice to meet you nena, remember drive through!" your sister pretended to kick a ball as sofía giggled and copied the action before waving and racing back to your side as the two of you disappeared again.
when you returned around fifteen minutes later now changed into dry clothes and the four year old sleeping peacefully in your bed it wasn't a surprise to see alexia curled up on the corner of the lounge watching something.
you didn't say anything at first as you settled at the opposite end, a somewhat uncomfortable unspoken tension filling the gap between the two of you.
"i assume you are staying the night then." you spoke up first, knowing alexia well enough that when she had her mind set on something it was near impossible to change it.
"sí." your sister confirmed as you gave a small nod. "you are very good with her." the blonde commented next, throwing you a small look as your own eyes stayed fixated on the tv.
"as kids go she's pretty easy." you gave a shrug, tucking your knees up to your chest. "everything you do with her, i used to do with you." and there it was.
"alexia-" you started with a small sigh. "no, fresa i know. we don't need to speak about it, i just wanted to say it. she reminds me a lot of you is all, and i miss it sometimes." alexia admitted, nervous that with one wrong word it might send you recoiling into yourself and off to your room, worsening things.
a beat of silence paused and alexia took that as a silent cue you were done, turning her head back toward the tv.
"sometimes i miss it too."
you'd spoken so quietly you weren't even sure if your sister had heard you, grateful that if she did she chose not to comment on it, the two of you sitting in silence that albeit awkward was a little less tense watching television.
alexia looked up from where she was getting some water in the kitchen at a soft knock at the door, watching you hurry over to pull it open, an unfamiliar girl just visible through the window as alexia leaned against the counter.
no words were exchanged as you lead the girl inside and the two of you returned a moment later, sofia back in her mothers arms as the girl who didn't look much older than twenty two or three loaded her into a carseat.
when she returned to speak with you alexia hadn't meant to eavesdrop and overhear, she really hadn't.
"thank you so so much for this chica, she adores you and i appreciate you." elena sighed pulling you into a hug as you assured it was no problem and you were always happy to help out if needed.
"please don't give me that look." you sighed after you told her you'd see her at work tomorrow. "mateo said you could have the whole week off and with pay! why are you working?" elena told you off firmly but not unkindly.
"i like working." you justified with a shrug, the older girl not buying it as she raised an eyebrow and you deflated a little. "i can't see her like that el, i can't." you whispered out, voice on the cusp of cracking as alexia's eyebrows furrowed from where she stood within earshot.
"she's your mami amiga she would want you there with your sisters, supporting each other through this. not stabbing grumpy old men with low iron!" elena teased with a soft smile as you barely cracked one of your own.
"your sisters are trying, sí? let them try, i am sure that they love you very much." elena promised as alexia was taken aback at her words, the jealousy which had been simmering at the surface of the comfort this stranger was providing you instead of her, easing a little.
"i know. but i can't see her like that, i can't." you repeated with a shake of your head. "why?" elena asked softly, a hand sat on your shoulder with a gentle squeeze as you shook your head.
"you can talk to me about anything chica, you know this. we all love you and are here for anything you need!" your friend encouraged gently, alexia's grip on her glass tightening as she heard the unmistakable sound of you choking back a slight sob before the next words you whispered shattered her heart completely.
"because the last time someone i loved when into hospital, he never came back."

So what a man gotta do? ~ OP⁸¹
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Oscar Piastri x Fem!Reader
Short note: Reader has no idea that Oscar is a famous guy. Oscar can't handle babies to save his life. Reader is an overworker. The plot feels cliché but I am very unoriginal/j
Warnings: Light profanities, bickering
Summary: You are an overworked corporate freak. You were on business to Monte Carlo, Monaco. You were trying to enjoy a good breakfast, not hear some F1 racer's baby niece crying.
..........................................................................................
You were in your hotel bed, sprawled up between the sheets. It was a sleepless night. A ray of sunshine penetrated your room from a tiny creak of a window and hit your face. Your phone alarm rang loudly, echoing through the room. You were annoyed.
"End my misery, Good God," you huffed, annoyed.
You had no choice but to wake up. Your stomach was growling. As you tried to get out of your bed, you accidentally tripped and fell on your butt.
What a way to start the day, you thought.
You stepped into the large bathroom of your hotel room to freshen up. The morning seemed to run slow and lazy. You looked at yourself in the mirror while brushing your teeth. The eyebags under your circles had visibly darkened a lot more from overworking. You couldn't help but still think about work.
Man, I still have another program left. Why didn't the code compile? Did I write any statement wrong? Or was it the argument?
You were lost in your own sea of thoughts. You were pulled back to reality when your stomach growled again. The tap was running endlessly. You quickly freshened up and took a quick shower. You wrapped yourself in a bathrobe and got out of the bathroom. Shivers ran down your spine at the air circulating in the room, hitting the areas the bathrobe couldn't cover. You quickly wore an oversized t-shirt and a pair of jeans to head out for breakfast to a cafe.
Phone, check. Purse, check. Laptop in backpack, check.
You went downstairs at the reception to check out for some time. The receptionist flashed you a polite smile. You were headed to Café de Paris. The streets of Monte Carlo in the morning was a sight for sore eyes. Gentle breezes blew and hit your face every now and then. The road wasn't very busy.
"Taxi!"
You waved your hand at a taxi to take a ride to your destination.
"Où voulez-vous aller, madame?,The driver asked politely. where do you want to go, miss?
"Café de Paris. Combien cela coûterait-il?," you asked to make sure the driver got his pay and you reached your destination properly. cafe de paris. how much would that be?
"100€, madame."
You got inside the taxi to get to the cafe. The ride on the way there was pleasant. The rolled-down calm window allowed the occasional zephyr to hit your face ever so gently. The view of Monte Carlo was nothing short of an amazement. The lavish buildings, infrastructures, the hoard of luxury cars: Nothing about Monte Carlo was less than class and elegance.
You are drawn out of your reverie as the taxi suddenly stops. You stepped out of the car and paid the driver. Stepping into the café, your senses are overwhelmed by the smell of pungent caffeine, freshly baked goods, savories and drinks. The bright sunlight filters through the windows, bathing the room in a soft light. In the corner, you spotted an empty table. It was located near the wall of the café. A waiter appears nearby. He asks if he could assist you, and you inform him that you are looking for a table for one. The waiter escorted you to your table. He was waiting for your order. The light from the sun beamed through the window and hit his face as he took the order.
"One espresso, one chocolate chaud, le wrap saumon, and one tranche de cake. Will that be all?" The waiter asked, smiling.
"Yes, that will be all", you replied.
"It will be out in a few minutes", the waiter said as he walked away.
You were peacefully enjoying your breakfast in the cafe, enjoying the atmosphere and the taste of her delicious food. As you were eating, you suddenly heard the sound of a wailing and whining baby coming from the table behind you. A guy was trying desperately to comfort the baby, but the baby was only becoming more distressed and loud. You could feel your blood pressure rising, as you grew frustrated at the guy's inability to control the baby.
The child sounded hungry. Despite not being a mom yourself, you well knew how to handle and understand babies.
This guy is gonna get it from me.
You were getting visibly angry, and you turned to the guy and said, "I can't believe you can't handle your own baby!"
The guy, clearly frustrated by the situation and your anger, said, "I'm doing my best, but this baby is just so needy and always crying." The voice had a unique timbre to it, Australian accent rolling out.
You rolled your eyes and said, "You should have thought about that before having a baby. You're the father. Why are you so clueless?"
The guy was now getting annoyed and said, "Not like you're the mother. What's your problem? You should have some empathy."
You continued to bicker with the guy about his inability to handle the baby. The guy was beginning to become defensive, and said, "It's not my baby, it's-"
You became angrier, and said, "How dare you deny your own child?! Who do you think you are?!"
The guy realized that I was under the impression that he was the baby's dad. He smirked slightly in amusement before continuing, "You really don't know who I am?"
I looked at him in confusion and frustration. "And who are you sir?" You took in his features. He seemed tall, around 5'10. Maybe a centimeter or two taller. The guy looked athletic with dark blonde hair. Your eyes raked on him, head to toe. He has a strong jaw and large deep set blue eyes. He has a lean, muscular frame, with well-defined muscles on his arms and shoulders, and strong legs. He definitely wasn't hard on the eyes.
He noticed you eyeing him head-to-toe and smirked in amusement. Looked at you and spoke with slight arrogance. "I'm Oscar Piastri."
"Oscar Pastry? Who the fuck names their son 'Pastry?'"
"Piastri!," he interjected.
"Pastry or whatever, have some shame. You can't handle your own child." You rolled your eyes.
He was amused at your reaction. The fact that you didn't know anything about him made the situation funnier.
The baby started crying louder. As the verbal dispute escalated, other guests in the café began to look at them and whisper to each other. Some of them were trying to suppress their laughter at the sight of the F1 driver and the angry girl.
Oscar stood up from his seat and towered you. He countered, saying, "You think I'm not trying? Try sitting in my place and see how you handle the situation then!"
"If it's gonna shut your mouth then so be it!"
You took the baby in your arms and rocked it slowly.
"Boy or a girl?"
"Girl..." he looked at you wide-eyed. How easily you calmed his niece down. Though he was not ready to tell you right now that it's his niece, not his daughter...
"Name?"
"Ollie."
"Like from Oggy and the Cockroaches?"
"Shut the fuck up." He deadpanned. He looked at his now calm niece. He looked at you being gentle with her. He got weird butterflies seeing you like that. He saw how...motherly you are. Ollie was smiling in your arms and all giggly.
"Milk."
"Huh?" he snapped out of his thoughts.
"Milk, Pastry." You emphasized the stupid nickname to rile him up.
"It's Piastri." he rolled his eyes as he handed a bottle of milk from his backpack. "What's your name?"
"Y/N L/N."
"Ahhh I see...Nice name..." The name rolled off his tongue in a way that you liked.
You rocked Ollie in your arms slowly. Ollie was cooing cutely which made you smile. You fed the infant from the bottle as she peered up at you with her big, doe eyes. Oscar was looking at you in amazement at how easily you calmed his niece. He was smiling slightly at the sight in front of him.
"You know, you'd be a great mother..." he said with a slight chuckle.
"That came outta nowhere," you said. You chuckled in a breath, blushing at the comment. He noticed your flustered expression and smiled. He had a cheeky smile on his face.
"So, what brings you to Monaco?," he asked out of pure curiosity.
"Work," you sighed.
"What do you do for a living?," he asked.
"Software developer. I'm here to present our company's new project to our potential collaborator," you explained. He was listening to you carefully and nodded slightly in respect.
"You're very smart for a pretty girl," he said with a teasing smirk.
"And what does that mean?," you raised an eyebrow. You looked down and saw a now peacefully asleep Ollie in your arms. You carefully took out the bottle of milk from his mouth.
"Just that beauty and brains is a deadly but rare combination," he said with a playful shrug. You snickered.
"Pacifier." You extended your hand towards him to take the pacifier he'd hand you.
"You're a natural at this stuff," he muttered softly.
"Okay okay I get it. What do you do for a living though?"
"Wait— you don't know?" Oscar was genuinely surprised that you didn't know who he was. He was pretty famous after all, but you seemed to be completely oblivious.
"Am I supposed to know ya?" You scratched your head in confusion. He chuckled at your lack of knowledge on this.
"I'll give you a hint. I drive in weird shapes for living." He grinned as he waited for an answer.
"Drive in weird shapes?" You started pondering.
Well, he said weird shapes. Driving, the roads aren't of a specific shape so...
"You're a taxi driver?"
"What the—" He burst out laughing at your answer.
"What? Did I get it wrong?" Your cheeks flushed pink, a hint of embarrassment creeping up.
"You said you drive in weird shapes and roads aren't exactly always straight so I assumed..."
"Search my name, dummy." He had a shit-eating grin on his face.
"Uhm...sure?" You rolled your eyes and took out your phone. You typed with one hand while rocking Ollie in your arms. Surely he isn't any hotshot, right? Your eyes widened at the search results.
"Okay. No words." Your eyes darted from the pictures on your phone and him, your mind processing he was a Formula 1 driver and you had no idea all this time.
"Surprise sweetie." He ran his fingers through his head. Your eyes went on the first picture that popped up. A race win in Hungary...
"You still can't babysit your daughter." You retorted to mask the surprise on you face.
But Google didn't show any wife or girlfriend or children on his profile. Where'd he even get this girl from?
"Sorry to break your little bubble but that's my niece. I'm no father." He chuckled.
"No wonder. I thought google was inaccurate." I nodded slowly. But I immediately bit back. "Still can't babysit to save your life."
"So what a man gotta do?" Oscar asked with a grin.
You chuckled exasperatedly and shook your head. "So, when do I teach?"
"Come to Australia sometime." He smiled.
Can't believe I'm gonna have to teach a world-class Formula 1 driver on how to babysit his niece.

Tumblr media
it was all his fault, at least thats what you told yourself when you came up with this devious little plan in the first place, that it was charles's fault for up and leaving before you'd been able to cum around his cock last night.
he'd showed up at your place around two in the morning tipsy and in a grump from having lost the race earlier in the day begging you to make him feel better and so naturally since he was the best fuck you'd ever had, you let him have his way with you but his way last night was utter fucking torment.
he enjoyed, no he loved seeing you beg and he was hoping you'd be begging tonight down on your sweet little knees but you had decided that, that was not going to be the case, you wanted to be the one to have him on his fucking knees for a change.
you knew deep down that this dress would do the trick, the red satin hugged your figure, attaching itself to each and every curve of your body and the bra you wore pushed your boobs so far up that they could fall out of your dress with one wrong move, you looked like a sin; that was all charles was capable of thinking the moment he saw you walk into the club, his own personal little devil.
when you brushed past him on your way to the bar, your fingers grazed across his crotch and the slight gasp he let out made you smirk "you are playing a dangerous game douce fille" charles whispered to himself as he watched you go, hips swinging with every step, charles couldn't help but lick his lips at the sight, desperate for a taste.
charles was fine with letting you wander about the club showing off for him but what he didn't like was you showing off for all the other men there as well with your ass practically hanging out the bottom of your dress, you were his and he wasn't gonna let another guy lay a hand on you, so while he let you have your space, he found his eyes traveling over to you every now and then just to make sure you weren't getting into any mischief.
but little did either of you know, mischief was heading your way. when you felt a hand brush across your back so close to your ass as you leaned across the bar to take your drink from the bartender, you smirked thinking it was charles coming to claim his prize for the night but oh how you couldn't have been more wrong.
as you looked behind you, you made eye contact with a man that just radiated fuckboy energy "please don't touch what isn't yours" you mused quietly and he held his hand's up innocently like a kid caught with their hand in the cookie jar "relax just wanted to get to know ya, i'm brad" you couldn't help but roll your eyes, brad what a classic fuckboy name.
after a thought you decided he was harmless since you had no intention of flirting or going home with him tonight, so you decided to indulge him a little and so you sat across from one another at the bar, slowly sipping at your individual drinks.
charles had only taken his eyes off you for less than two minutes and when his eyes sought you out, he saw red.... seeing you sitting across from a man at the bar, he wasn't happy and despite you deciding to be a little tease with your choice of dress tonight he trusted you like he had never trusted any other girl before and so he let it go until he watched the guy slip his hand onto your thigh, caressing the skin like he owned you but he didn't, charles did and he was going to make sure that this prick fucking knew that.
"let me get you another drink" brad asked, hand still running along your thigh, little did he know that if he didn't remove it soon he would no longer have a hand and if the intimidating presence behind you didn't give away the fact that brad was fucked, the hand that soon wrapped around your throat should have been a dead giveaway, charles tilted your back to look into your eyes "don't you dare" he practically growled.
"you say yes and i will not be gentle with you" brad's hand slipped from your thigh "i didn't know you were taken" brad stated, trying to defend himself "i'm not" you mumbled, still gazing into charles's eyes and as your words hit his ears, he tightened his grip around your throat.
"lets go" he growled, pulling you off the bar stool and into the bathroom of the club, you'd barely made it in the door before charles pressed your back into the cold tile wall, his hand once again wrapping around your throat and holding tight as you struggled against his hold "stop wriggling" he demanded, his breath hot against your ear as he pressed a little tighter causing black spots to form in front of your eyes, as he watched a tear slip from your eye he eased back a little loosening his hold but not completely letting go just yet "your mine so all those guys can fuck off and leave you alone"
"i'm not yours" you reminded him and he gave you a look that told you that you'd picked your words poorly "yeah, well i'm going to fucking make you mine douce fille" and with that he dropped to his knees, hiking your dress up and around your hips, he dragged the fabric of your panties to the side drooling at the sight of your wet little pussy, if you asked charles in a public setting what his favorite thing about you was he would say your eyes but if you asked in private, he wouldn't even give you a verbal answer and instead just drop to his knees in front of you.
"no, we can't, not here" your fingers tangled in his soft locks, pulling at it to try and distract him from his current mission of wanting to eat your pussy until your legs gave out around his head and your whole body was trembling from his touch but your words met deaf ears as he spit into his hand before rubbing his fingers along your folds, grazing your clit with every pass he made.
"your fucking crazy" you whispered as a shiver ran down your spine due to charles's touch on your clit but also at the idea of being caught in such a compromising position in public, oh how you could see the headlines now.
"FERRARI'S GOLDEN BOY CAUGHT IN ROMANTIC TRYST!"
it was only a few seconds before charles's mouth attached to your pussy, licking through your folds to suck up every last drop of the juices you were currently leaking all over his pretty little face like an alcoholic who'd gone far too long without a drink.
his fingers gripped tightly at your thighs making sure to leave little bruises that he could kiss better later. when he slipped his tongue inside, you shuddered above him, hands pulling at his hair but he never ceased, this man was starving and he was going to feast.
you couldn't help but gently rock your hips against his tongue which caused his nose to brush against your clit causing the most gorgeous friction that had you tilting your head back as a low moan slipped past your lips, fingers tugging at his hair as he smiled against your folds continuing to eat your pussy like a man starved.
you were reaching your peak and fast, you always did when charles ate you out like this, you hips began to move faster against his tongue chasing the pleasure he gave you but right as you were on the edge of pure bliss he pulled away and the sight you saw as he gazed up at you was down right erotic, his cheeks, lips, nose and even chin wet with a mix of your juices and his saliva, the perfect mix in his mind.
his pupils were wide and his mouth hung open as he panted, his warm breath hitting your thigh as he gently nibbled at the skin sending even more shock waves zapping up your spine, he scrambled up your body, hands pulling at his belt desperate to get his hard aching cock inside of your tight little cunt.
"why'd you stop" to say you were pissed was an understatement, he was not about to leave you high and dry again "i'm sorry" he rushed out, he knew that if he was to keep lapping at your dripping wet pussy like the feral animal he was any longer that he would cum in his pants right then and there.
"i was going to cum in my pants" he chuckled, connecting his lips to yours for the first time that night, you moaned at the taste of yourself on his tongue, his kiss was sloppy and desperate causing spit to coat both of your faces.
when you pulled away you couldn't help but smile at the sight, charles cheeks were flushed and warm from the heat radiating between your bodies, his eyes wide and your lipstick was smeared across his lips and chin "so fucking pretty" you murmured, thumb running over his bottom lip as he pulled his aching cock from the confines of his jeans.
you squeaked as he picked you up, practically manhandling you as he wrapped your legs around his waist and plunged in without warning causing your head to slam against the wall behind you "fuck" you gasped "be gentle" but he was far from gentle in this moment as he thrusted in and out of you at an unnatural speed that had your head spinning.
if anyone were to walk into the bathroom in that moment and catch you, you'd have looked like a pair of rabbits in heat from the way you were going at it.
you couldn't help but bite as his shoulder, teeth digging into his skin and drool soaking his shirt in an attempt to keep quiet but the sound of his hips slamming against yours would give you away before any moans did, the sound was wet and sticky as your hips slammed together.
a sharp pain hit you as charles fingers threaded through your hair and tugged forcefully so that he could kiss and bite at the delicate skin of your neck, marking you has his own personal fucktoy, no other man would ever fucking touch you again, not on his watch.
"you wanna come inside me joli garçon, you want me to make you a daddy" charles groaned against your shoulder at the words you whispered in his ear, a million fantasies coming to mind in that moment but pushed them all down in order to focus on you and the pleasure he was making you feel.
when he felt your pussy clench around him, his hips came to a halt, body shaking with pleasure as he released ropes and ropes of his sweet hot cum deep into your tight pussy that still clenched around his cock, milking him dry.
charles's lipstick stained swollen lips pressed against yours as you swallowed eachothers moans, his hand snuck down and started to rub at your clit, pace fast and rough, he was desperate to make you cum around him and when you finally did, juices gushing around his cock, he couldn't help but cum again at the feeling.
when it was all over he pulled his head from the crook of your neck as you both panted "holy fuck" he breathed out "that was the best fuck we've ever had" he darkly chuckled.
"i never knew you were a biter" you giggled which caused your pussy to clench around his cock again, a small shot of cum shooting out.
he slowly and gently let you down and as he kneeled down to pull your dress over your butt, he couldn't help but lean forward and lick a stripe up your thigh "fuck, it's dripping down your legs" his tone of voice told he was proud of the work he'd done.
he had fucking bred you and god did he want to do it again and again until it stuck and you were round and pregnant with his baby.
"your fucking mine now you petit diable"
you couldn't help but laugh at his words "little devil huh"
oh yeah, you were his own personal little devil and a fucking hot one at that.
"yeah, my little devil" he chuckled, lips pressing against yours sloppily once more, you both couldn't help but smile against eachothers lips,
"lets get the fuck out of here" he suggested, tangling your fingers with his own "why, you going to breed me again" you joked not knowing how fucking right you actually were.

Series Masterlist Never Too Late Masterlist
“God, I can’t even remember the last time my hair has been this long. Lucy keeps saying I look like a Jonas Brother. Am I supposed to know who they are? Is that supposed to be a good thing?” Javi sighed, playing with his dark brown curls in the bathroom mirror as you snuck up behind him, wrapping your arms around his waist, peeking out to watch your husband’s longer than usual locks twist between his fingers.
“They’re the goofy looking boy band on Disney Channel that the girls are obsessed with. Like the Backstreet Boys, except cooler, apparently.” You laughed, planting a soft kiss into the fabric of Javi’s worn t-shirt covering his broad back before stepping next to him, leaning your hip against the bathroom counter to admire your husband as he fiddled with his hair.
“Jesus Christ, those guys? God, I really do need a haircut before I start looking like the poster what’s-his-face hanging on Lucy and Elliot’s walls.” Javi chuckled, running his hand through his hair once more before mirroring you, his hip resting against the counter, leaning his weight on his palm splayed flat along the granite surface.
“Well, if it makes you feel any better, I think he’s supposed to be the best looking one.” You teased, giving Javi a playful shrug. Besides, I like your hair long.”
“Seriously?” Javi asked, raising an eyebrow at you, crossing his arms over his chest in protest. “It looks like a mop right now.”
“A very sexy mop.” You smirked, nudging Javi before stepping closer into him, reaching up to run your hand through his curls, slowly twisting the ends with your fingers. “It reminds me of that trip we took to Jamaica a few years ago. Your hair was almost this long, remember? You looked so hot in those stupid floral button downs you insisted on buying, and hanging out shirtless by the pool all day while you played with the girls.”
“Fuck, I forgot about that. I’m surprised we didn’t end up with a fourth kid after that trip.” Javi chuckled, slowly shifting the palm that had been holding him up towards your waist, letting his fingers gently toy with the waistband of your pajamas. “You really like my long hair that much?”
“Mhmmmm.” You cooed, continuing to close the gap between your bodies, your free hand resting on Javi’s chest as the other continued to stroke his curls. You could feel a low groan rumbling in Javi’s throat as your fingers weaved back and forth through his hair, the other creeping up to cradle his jaw, thumb tracing back and forth across the stubble on his cheek.
“Yeah? What else do you like about it?” Javi groaned, his hand slipping under the elastic waistband of your pants to grab a fistfull of your ass, kneading the soft flesh in his hand.
“I like…” You paused, bringing your lips to Javi’s, pressing a tender kiss on his lips, “I like that it gives me something extra to hold on to.”
“Hold on to?” Javi asked, cocking his head in slight confusion.
“Hold on to when you go down on me. I love being able to run my hands through your hair when you eat me out, especially when it’s long like this.” You smirked, watching Javi’s eyes go wide in delight, a devilish grin spreading across his face as he bit down on his lip.
Before you could say anything else, Javi’s hands were gripping around your waist and hosting you up to sit on the counter, caging his body against yours, hands planted around the outside of your hips while his lips crashed into yours, your mouths becoming a tangled mess of tongue and teeth.
“Fuck…” Javi whispered to himself, pulling away from your lips to pepper kisses down your jaw and neck, running his hands over your thighs. “I love it when you play with my hair, Hermosa. Love feeling you pull on it when you’re close. Makes me lose my fucking mind every time. Fuck, I’d stay burried between your legs forever if I fucking could.”
Javi began to let his kisses trail down your body, past your chest and across your stomach before he was dropping to his knees in front of you, draping your legs across the width of his shoulders. Pulling at your waistband, you lifted your hips off the counter so your pajamas and underwear could fall to the floor, revealing the wetness that had been pooling between your thighs since you had walked into the bathroom a few minutes ago.
“Jesus Christ…” Javi whispered, further parting your legs to see the arousal already dripping through your folds, staring up at you with a boyish grin on his face, “So fucking wet for me, Hermosa. Didn’t realize you liked my hair that much.”
“Oh shut up you goof, you know I- o-oh fuck-” You whimpered, Javi cutting off the rest of your sentence as the flat of his tongue dragged across your cunt, the suddent sensation making you gasp in delight, already playing in to Javi’s plan as your hand shot down to his head, digging your fingers into his messy hair.
“Better hold on tight, querida. There’s a lot more where that came from.” Javi smirked, pulling away just enough to see the smug smile between his cheeks, peppering a few wet kisses on the inside of your thighs before his head was back between your legs, placing a soft kiss on your clit, already aching and throbbing for more of what you had just been promised.
“Do your worst, Peña.”
That one sent a low growl of approval humming through his chest, laughing to himself as his hands gripped tighter around your thighs, fingertips digging into the soft flesh of your skin before another slow, broad stroke of his tongue was traveling through your folds.
While you were truly convinced there wasn’t another man who loved going down on their wife more than your husband did, you could always tell when Javi wanted nothing more than to stay buried between your thighs, making you cum over and over until you were begging him to stop, lapping up every last drop of you until there was nothing left to give, and right now, you already knew Javi meant what he said when you were about to have to hold on for dear life.
The hand buried in the dark waves of Javi’s hair only began to tug tighter as his tongue began to work meticulously across your cunt, pressing just enough pressure against your sensitive bundle of nerves to already have you a squirming, whimpering mess, but painstakingly slow enough to have you begging for more.
“Javi… Oh, shit. Fuck, more baby, please. P-please.” You moaned, looking down at Javi with what you were already sure was a wrecked expression painted across your face.
You could practically feel Javi’s smug smirk pressed against your cunt as he eased one, then two fingers into your aching core, curling them to bump against the spongy spot inside you that already had you fisting at the edge of the bathroom counter to try and keep your composure, and better yet, your voice down.
“Oh my god, f-fuck. You feel so good, baby.” You moaned, feeling the strong arch of Javi’s nose bumping against your clit, placing a soft kiss there before the flat of his tongue licked another long, broad stroke across your cunt, putting just the right amount of pressure on your sensitive bundle of nerves as his fingers worked in tandem to send the sweet tingling sensation to start building in your spine.
“Fuck, I love this perfect pussy so much. I still can’t believe she’s all fucking mine. My perfect fucking wife. Tell me, Hermosa, whose pussy is this?” Javi asked, pulling away for you to see your slick covering his mustache and the lustful look pooling in the dark brown of his eyes, the quiet possessiveness of his tone making your cunt clench even tighter around his fingers as they continued to pulse in and out of you.
“It’s y-yours, Javi, It’s all- fuck- It’s all yours.” You whined, your breath hitching in your throat as you spoke.
“And who’s the only one who makes you feel like this, huh?” Javi tutted, sliding a third finger into your heat, the sweet stretch and sting making you let out a ragged whimper as you threw your head back in pleasure.
“Y-you- Jesus- Y-you are, Javi.”
“And who’s gonna be a good girl and soak my face when she cums for me?”
“M-me.”
“That’s fucking right, you are.” Javi growled before diving back between your legs, working his tongue relentlessly against your clit, circling and flicking in fast and firm motions as his fingers curled deeper into your core, eating you up like a man starved, desperate to make you fall apart.
You could already feel the coil in your stomach beginning to tighten from the way Javi was working so relentlessly to make you come undone, drinking every ounce of you up as his lips latched around your sensitive bundle of nerves, making your back arch and mind go blank while that all too familiar tingle began to creep through your core, cunt beginning to clench tighter and tighter around him.
At this point, your fingers were tugging so tightly around the soft, brown curls of his locks to try and hold yourself together, that you were convinced that you were close to pulling his hair out of his skull, but with the way you were on the brink of collapse from the way Javi’s mouth was working against your cunt, you almost didn’t have a choice.
“Fuck, Javi. Oh shit- Baby, I’m so close. Don’t stop.”
“I won’t stop, mi amor. Won’t stop until this pretty pussy fucking soaks me.” Javi mewled, peeking his head out from under you just enough so that his sweet, brown eyes were locked with yours, the hot words of his breath dancing against your pussy as his fingers continued to rock in and out of you. “I’ve got you, Osita. Promento. Damelo, bebita. (I promise. Give it to me, baby).”
Before you could respond, your jaw dropped open and face scrunched in pleasure as Javi dove back in, burying his face in your cunt as each press of his tongue became more firm and precise than the last, feeling your pussy begin to flutter as you clutched tighter around the edge of the counter, trying to keep from screaming out in pleasure and raise any suspicion. But as your legs began to tremble and your heart race, teetering on the brink of collapse, it was taking every ounce of willpower you had left to make that happen.
“Fuck, Javi. Fuck, I- fuck- I’m gonna, I’m gonna-ahhhhhh.” You whimpered, feeling your orgasm crash through you, pleasure radiating in your veins as you fell apart, losing all inhibitions to keep yourself quiet as you threw your head back in all consuming bliss. With his fingers still buried in your cunt, gently working you through your high, Javi shot back up, his mouth engulfing yours in an electric kiss to try and capture your ragged moans that had been coating the walls of the bathroom, the tangy taste of you still lingering on his lips.
Your heartbeat finally began to slow, your chest heaving in long, heavy breaths as you slumped into Javi, your head resting on his shoulder as your hands stayed buried deep in his hair, grasping onto his now sweat-dampened ends to try and pull yourself back down to reality.
After a few moments of letting you come to, Javi gently pulled out his fingers, all three drenched and glistening with your slick, pulling them out and bringing them to his mouth, sucking them clean with a devilish smirk of satisfaction on his face.
“God, you taste so fucking sweet. You really weren’t kidding about the hair, huh Hermosa?” Javi chuckled, cupping your jaw to cradle your cheek with his broad palm, forcing your gaze up at him.
“I told you.” You giggled softly, still trying to catch your breath as you smiled at him, pulling him in for another long, tender kiss. “Hottest looking Jonas Brother I’ve ever seen.”
The two of you burst out into laughter, practically snorting at your comment, taking a second to compose yourselves as Javi crossed his arms over his chest, rolling his eyes at you.
“If that’s the fucking case, I’m getting out the clippers tonight.”
“Not until you take me to bed and do this all again, you aren’t.”

Tumblr media
“Don’t overthink it,” I say. “They can smell that, you know? They sniff out insecurity.”
“You make them sound like beasts.”
“No. No, they’re not. They’re not that scary.”
Tumblr media
“Right. It’s just you keep going on about how un-scared and completely chilled you are, and you bringing it up like, fifty times is making me feel like you actually are a bit frightened of them,” Jen, cross-legged on my bedroom floor, pats glitter onto her eyelids. “They’re just bouncers. How bad can they be? Surely not worse than those bastards in Dublin.”
“They’re not violent, they’re just judgmental.”
She rolls her eyes. “Oh, no. They’ll judge me. What’ll I do? I’m immune to it. Unless it’s my mam there at the door, I won’t be phased.”
Tumblr media
“I’m just trying to prepare you for the realty. You know? Like, if you don’t get in, you shouldn’t take it personally, because they’re so particular, and honestly, most people get turned away.”
“But not you?”
“Hm?”
“Not you? You’ve gotten in to Berghain already?”
“Oh, yeah, of course.”
Tumblr media
I haven’t. Tonight will be my sixth attempt, and crossing the threshold has become my most pressing need since I moved. Each time, I pray the bouncers will see past whatever it is about me they find so unsuitable for their club, but each time I am disappointed. Maybe Jen will be my good luck charm, and will be so distracting at the door that nobody even sees me slip past.
“Well,” she shrugs. “If they let you in, then they mustn’t be very picky at all.”
“Thanks.”
“I’m messing.”
“But not really.”
Tumblr media
Jen laughs into the mirror. “No,” she says. “Not really.”
Tumblr media
In the Berghain queue, I adopt a new method of staying perfectly silent and still. I am a statue in black denim, as techno beats throb from within the looming walls of the club. The party is continuing from the night before. I am nervous, but I try not to show it on my face, nor the movements of my body. Jen offers me some of the cigarette she is sharing with Jonas, and I shake my head, for fear that this act, or any act at all, will draw too much attention. That it will set off the radar of the doormen, guarding the club with their mysterious rules.
Tumblr media
“Cold, isn’t it?” Jen comments, and I wish she wouldn’t.
“Mm.” I reply. A group of men are turned away.
“They must be too drunk.”
“Maybe.”
Tumblr media
We stand mute for the next half an hour, Jonas bobbing his head to the music as the queue shortens ahead of us. He gets in every time no matter what he does. He is never nervous.
Tumblr media
We reach the top, and my palms sweat despite the cold, fisted inside the pockets of my coat. Jen keeps a straight face, like I told her. She doesn’t speak. A doorman examines her, and Jonas, and me.
“Welkommen,” he says, and waves us inside.
I have been holding my breath. I let it out in a rush. Someone asks for my phone, puts a green sticker over the camera. I hardly dare to look around me.
I am inside, awash with approval.
Tumblr media
“Very grungy,” Jen comments, nonchalant, as we climb a staircase to the main hall. The industrial fittings from the building’s electrical plant history, with soaring, concrete ceilings and pipe and disintegrating tile, plastered with stickers, German slogans I only partially understand.
It is the wall of sound that takes me by surprise. The immense noise of it that invades my body and vibrates through me, my heart thumping in time with the beat.
“Christ,” I say, though nobody hears me. My voice is inside my own ears and nowhere else. Around us, bodies drift upon the dancefloor, arms up, weaving together as though moving underwater. I’m in another realm, like diving beneath the surface, time liquid, direction lost. Hundreds of bodies move in leather and latex, with chains and spikes, studs, laces, and masks. These people could be scary, but it isn’t like that. It’s mesmerising. Disorienting. There is a moment where I leave my body, and forget where I am, and I’m drifting above them.
Tumblr media
Jen yanks me down, her mouth against my ear. “Do you know where your friends are?”
“Somewhere,” I bellow, and shrug, staring out over the sea of dancers under the lights and the smoke. Impossible to tell one person from another. One thousand shades of black. “In there. We can go in.”
“Yeah, okay,” She grabs my hand, then Jonas’, and pulls us toward the churning centre.
Tumblr media
I do not understand this brutal music, but I pretend to. It thuds on, repetitive. It rattles my bones and I close my eyes and smell the cigarette smoke and sweat. I move with the wave.
“Jude, baby!” hands are on me, and there is Elias, glitter on his face, and his pupils black. Next to him, Dalia, the same, her curls sticking to her forehead, jaw gurning.
“We found you so easy,” she says, close to my ear. “You stick out.”
“Oh. Because I don't belong in here.”
“Nah. Because you’re tall as fuck. This your friend?” She’s reaching for Jen with fingers wiggling, her signature warm smile made edgy by the manic look of her eyes.
Tumblr media
Jen meets them, Elias and Dalia, and I can’t hear what they’re screaming into each other’s faces, but they’re smiling, because she’s likeable. As I watch them, my eyes settle upon a dusting of white powder in the fibres of Dalia’s top, and I feel hungry. We’ve been doing this a lot these last few months, not at Berghain, obviously, because of my unsuitability, but in other clubs, other parties. It’s fun, the way it is here, the culture around the drugs. It doesn’t feel dirty the way it did when I was in school, like I didn’t know what I was taking. The things I put into my mouth or up my nose could have been scooped off the floor of a Portaloo, for all I knew. This is different. I like it more. But it’s fine, it’s like cigarettes. I don’t really smoke. I don’t really do drugs, either.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Within five minutes, Elias, Jonas and I are doing lines in the toilets, and then we’re dancing with the girls for some undeterminable amount of time. The music pounds on, we smoke cigarettes, the liquid crowd swirls.
Tumblr media
“You’re on it,” Jen says, peering into my eyes as we sit in a lounge above the techno room, and I feel guilty, because it’s her, and I used to try and be sober when we were together.
“Nope.”
“Where did you get it?”
“Nowhere.”
Tumblr media
She digs around in my pockets, and I knock her hands away from me. “Get out of there. I don’t want you stealing my chewing gum wrappers and bits of lint.”
“Oh, come on.” She shoves her hand into the back pocket of my jeans.
“Stop grabbing my arse, you filthy little freak.”
“What are you doing, Jenny?” Elias cries. “What do you want, darling?”
“Nothing,” I say, giggling now, and I firmly plant her hands back in her lap.
“I think Jude has drugs. I wanted to see them.”
Tumblr media
“Oh, he doesn’t. But I do.” Elias produces a baggie of pills and tips one into his hand. “Here, I’m not leaving anyone out of the fun.”
I panic and snatch it before she can. I tip it into my mouth and swallow. Jen gapes at me as I grimace. “That was for me!” She cries.
“Was it? Too bad. It’s mine now.”
Tumblr media
Elias rolls his eyes. “Oh, Jude, don’t be so selfish. Don’t worry, Jen.” He offers her another pill, and again, I snatch it, and I swallow it before she can. Now she stares at me, her brows drawn, confused and annoyed. “Hey! Stop robbing them,” she says. “Those were for me.”
I grin. “Well, too slow.”
“You’re cracked.”
Tumblr media
Her nostrils flare, and there is a twinge of anxiety in my stomach, as I know my body will make me pay for this later, but the impulse to protect Jen is much stronger than my self-preservation instincts. It’s not that I was foolish enough to assume drugs would not be present, abundant even, at Berghain, but I didn’t think Jen would try to take them. After all that stuff from before, the images still burned into my brain, of fourteen, crying in Michelle’s bathroom as her dad held Jen over the tub, the plastic tube, and her sobs.
Again, Elias reaches for the bag, and this time I push his hand away, “No, Elias,” I say, “Leave it. She can’t have any.”
“Oh, stop. She wants them!” He winks at her and smiles that big, white veneer smile of his, but he doesn’t understand. I tighten my grip on his fist. “No,” I repeat. “She doesn’t need them.”
“I can do what I like,” she says, and like me, she’s trying to keep the tone jovial, but her voice is rising, tightening.
Tumblr media
I lower my face to hers, and mutter to her through gritted teeth so nobody else can hear, “No, you can’t.”
She coughs out some outraged imitation of a laugh. “I’m a grown woman,” she says, which is absurd. She is eighteen. It’s an argument for argument’s sake, which is so frustratingly Jen that I could scream.
Instead, I soften my voice and attempt to be reasonable, “C’mon, Jen. I know you know where I’m coming from.”
“Well, you’re creating a fuss in front of everyone.”
She’s right. My friends sit around us staring at anything but the situation gradually escalating in front of them. “What’s the alternative? Do I try to explain my way of thinking to you, or do I do an entire bag just to prove a point?”
Tumblr media
She huffs, her face reddening. “How come you can do them, then? Huh? You’re there with your big black eyes and cocaine on your upper lip, and you’re going to tell me what I can’t do?”
I touch my face, and my fingers come away with a light dusting. Later, I will be ashamed of the two seconds I spent looking at the residue, visualising rubbing it into my gums while she’s sitting there looking at me. “It’s different,” I insist.
“Why’s it different? We hung out in the same places, tried the same things, you don’t–”
Tumblr media
“Well, I can stop anytime I like,” I hiss, “And you can’t.”
She makes a little outraged sound. “You can’t say that to me!”
“Well, it’s true, because–”
Tumblr media
“Hey! How about we all dance?” Dalia says, rising to her feet and hauling me out of the seat. “Let’s go downstairs.”
“Yes!” says Jonas. “I think that’s a good idea.”
Tumblr media
Our discussion ends there, and down we go to the techno floor, diving back into the sea of dancers. I come up there, washed by a wave of euphoria as the beat hammers on, and I think I get it. I think I get the thing about techno.
Tumblr media
Jen dances with Elias, their skin sweat sheened, and I take her hand to pull her closer to me. “I’m sorry, Jenny,” I say. “I shouldn’t have said that to you. Upstairs, like.”
“It’s okay. I don’t care.”
“It wasn’t nice.”
“Well, you were probably right.”
“It’s not right to talk to you like that, especially in front of people. I–”
Tumblr media
“Forget it!” she says, and grins with that snaggletooth smile she’s had since ten. She dances around me, and we hold one another’s hands, and it strikes me that nothing really matters with me and Jen. No matter how much time has passed or how much we change, nothing can ever touch us. And now, in Berlin, sweat in our hair and our hearts matching the DJs rhythm, we’re swimming together, riding a wave, four hundred miles from the sea.

As soon as Mat stepped out of the taxi, he knew he would rather be anywhere else, "Mat." His uncle Milo greeted him stiffly as he stepped off the bus.
"Milo." Mat greeted, a flat expression on his face.
"You can call me Uncle Milo, you know." Milo attempted.
"Right." Mat nodded, making his way to the back of the taxi and grabbing all his bags.
"Well, let's get you home." Milo capped his hands and grabbed one of Mat's bags and leading him towards his apartment. Milo set Mat's bags down in the room he had designated as Mat's, "All right, well you get unpacked. My friend Lauren invited us over for dinner tonight."
"And you're telling me why?"
Milo sighed, "Because you're coming along, and you can't say no." Mat sighed, "Oh, and by the way, no one knows who you are here."
"They don't?" Mat asked.
"I don't think anyone in Ivory watches hockey." Milo chuckled, "Anyways, your secret is safe with me." Milo reassured him, then walked down the hall, leaving Mat alone in his new room in a town he didn't know anything about full of people who had no idea who he was or why he was there.
-
Milo and Mat stood on the Y/L/N doorstep. Milo looked over at Mat, and reached over, fixing his hair, "What the hell, man?" Mat snapped, swatting his hands away.
"Did you even brush your hair?"
"I did, actually."
They both turned to the door when it swung open. Your mom, Lauren, greeted them both with a warm smile, "You must be Mat." Your mom smiled.
"Mat I am." He nodded.
"Huh, he's funny too." Lauren nodded, raising a brow, "Well, come in. Dinner's almost ready." She stepped aside so they could enter.
Mat walked into your small apartment, his eyes going around every corner and looking at every photo on the wall. It was all of you and your mom, most when you were younger but there were a couple that were newer because you both looked a little older.
"Y/N, our guests are here." Your mom hollered down the hallway. You came down the hallway, fixing your necklace.
You smiled, "You must be Mat."
"Yeah." He nodded, moving behind you to get a better look at the racks of CDs you had. You frowned, "These yours?"
"Yeah." You nodded, mirroring his previous actions.
"Wow, The Cranberries and The Jonas Brothers." He nodded, picking up the two very different CDs.
"It's called taste." You grabbed them and set them back in their spots.
"Nah, I'm not judging. I like a girl who can do both." He smirked, picking up another CD and reading the back.
"You listen to music much?" You asked, crossing your arms.
"A little." He shrugged.
"You can borrow that." You told him.
"I'm good." He shrugged.
"Hey, you two, dinner's ready." Your mom popped her head out of the kitchen and into the living room where you two were.
-
A couple days later, Mat was getting accustomed to life in wherever he was. He didn't know what it was called and he didn't care to know. He had picked up a small cup of ice cream and was walking down the street, heading back to Milo's apartment when he saw you leaving the music store.
You looked up as he approached you," Hey, Mat." You smiled, "How are you liking it here in Ivory?"
"It's small."
"Small."
"Much smaller than where I'm from." He admitted.
"Right." You nodded, narrowing your eyes before clearing your throat, "I should get going. I'll see you around though."
"Wait, I have something for you." He pulled out the CD he had been eying a few days ago.
"Oh, wow, you didn't have to buy it, I offered it to you."
"I know. This is your's." You were stunned.
"Right." You nodded, taking it back from him.
"See you around, Y/N."
"Yeah." You stood in your spot, stunned.
-
A few days later, all you could think about was Mat. The interaction a few days ago, albeit short, was still on your mind. You were... confused to say the least. He was cold the first time you met, but the second time, things felt different.
"...Now, I don't know if you have anything going on two weeks from Friday, but I sort of signed us up for a dance class." Your mom told you, snapping you out of your daze.
"Dance class?" You asked.
"Yeah."
"Why did you sign us up for a dance class? You can barely tell your right from your left and have awful hand/eye coordination."
"I don't know, I wasn't thinking." Your mom explained, "I panicked. There are a few other ladies at work doing it, so I decided why not?"
"You are insane. When you're sweating and panting, I'll laugh." You leaned back in your seat, shaking your head. The bells above the diner jingled, and you looked up, curious when you heard the diner quiet down.
Living in a small town, everyone knew everyone. It was quite the cliche. So, when news went around that Mat was in town, everyone knew and everyone started gossiping. What did he do that was so bad he had to be sent away? Why was he here?
Mat looked around the diner, taking a deep breath as everyone looked at him like he was a caged animal, "Hey, why don't we tone it down a notch, guys?" Your mom called out, but no one listened to her and continued staring.
"Hey, quit it!" You shouted, and that seemed to snap everyone out of their daze and they all went back to what they were doing. Mat shot you both an appreciative look before going to the counter to order.
As he was leaving, he stopped by your table, "Hey, thanks for that."
"It's no problem." Your mom shrugged it off, "Next time you see creeps look at us, just shout at them for us, then we'll be even." She winked.
Mat nodded with a smile, the first you'd seen from him, "Cool." He nodded, "I'll see you around. Gotta get this back to Milo." He held up his bag of food.
"Oh, yeah. He gets cranky."
"So, I've heard." Mat chuckled, before smiling and giving you a fake salute before walking out the door.
-
"Y/N, there's someone here for you." Your mom hollered down the hallway.
"Who is it?" You asked.
"You'll just have to see." She winked, making her way down the hallway to her own room and shutting the door.
Your brows furrowed together as you made your way down the hallway to the front door where Mat was waiting in the doorway, "Mat? What're you doing here? Is there a CD you wanna borrow or something?"
"No," He chuckled, "I wanted to apologize. For my behavior the first time we met." You were stunned at his apology and the fact that he even was apologizing.
"Oh..." You didn't know what to say, "Well, thank you. I accept your apology. I get it. If I were new in a small town and were forced to meet new people, I'd probably react the same way."
"That still doesn't excuse my behavior." You raised a brow at the way he was speaking.
"Are you okay? Did you, like, go to school with the prince or something? Why are you talking so properly?" You laughed.
"Media training."
"Media training? Are you a promise?" Your eyes widened.
He laughed, "No. I play a little hockey in New York."
"Wow, a real city boy." You teased, "You any good?"
"A little." Mat smiled with a nod. You hummed, smiling, "So, look, there isn't much to do around here, so I was wondering if you wanted to go to the music store with me." He offered.
You were shocked, "Yeah, sure." You nodded.
"Cool." He nodded, trying to play it cool, "Are you free tomorrow?"
"Yeah."
"Cool." He nodded again, "How does 1 sound?"
"Sounds good." You nodded.
-
The next day, you were ready way before 1 o'clock, and at exactly 1 o'clock on the dot, there was a knock on your door and you knew immediately who it was.
You jumped off the couch, smoothing down your pants, before making your way over and opening the door, "Hey." You smiled.
"Hey, you ready?" He asked, his hands shoved into his pockets. On the outside, he looked cool and carefree but on the inside, he was so nervous and could feel the nervous sweat going down his back.
"Yeah." You grabbed your bag and then locked your door. You walked and talked over to the music store, the conversation very mundane.
The second you walked through, you were off in your own world. You ditched Mat and started rifling through the records as if you weren't there a couple days ago.
"Looking for anything in particular?" He asked, looking through the box next to you.
"No, but every now and then, they get new records." You shrugged, continuing your search.
"Hey, Y/N." The owner, Vic, called out, grabbing your attention, "I think I have something for you." He waved you over. You eagerly walked over and gasped when he pulled a record from under the desk.
"Vic, have I ever told you I love you?" Your eyes were wide as he handed you the record.
He only smiled as Mat walked over in confusion, "What's so special about a Blink-182 record?"
"We moved houses a little while ago, and in the move, I lost this record. It meant everything to me. I would play it practically every day, so when it went missing, it was the worst day of my life. I've been on the lookout for one since then, but for some reason, it's been impossible."
"Until today," Vic spoke up with a proud smile.
"Until today." You nodded with a smile. You got your wallet out, ready to pay, but Mat stopped you, "What?"
"I got it." He told you, handing Vic his card.
"What? No." You shook your head.
"Can't I just do this nice thing?" He chuckled.
You pursed your lips as you tried to read him, "Fine." You related, letting Vic swipe his card so he could pay.
Mat held the door open for you as you exited, "You know, I didn't tell you that story just for you to pay for this right?"
"I know." He nodded, "I just wanted to." He shrugged.
"Well, next time you see something you like, within reason, let me buy it for you." You nudged him.
"We'll see." He smirked.
-
As the weeks passed, you and Mat started hanging out more. You learned about his life in New York, learned about his best friend Anthony, his sister, and his parents. You also learned about his crippling fear of dogs, which was hilarious, and he regretted it the moment you started laughing.
He learned about your love for books and your love for ABBA and Mamma Mia. He learned your mom worked at a hotel and she also shared your love of music.
Your mom was at work, so you were left alone. It was summer after all. You were startled and confused by the knock at the door, "What're you doing here?" You asked.
"Hi, Mat. Good to see you too." He joked sarcastically.
"With the formalities out of the way, my question remains. What are you doing here?"
"Well, I was doing some research. There's a hockey team nearby. It's like minor league, I don't think they even keep score, but I got us tickets. They're for today." He held up a piece of paper with information about the team.
"Let's say I wasn't free. What would you do?" You asked.
"Go to the game alone." He shrugged.
"Fine. Just give me like 10 minutes."
"You have 5." You raised a brow, "I was working up the courage to ask you and kind of wasted a lot of time. The game starts in an hour and it takes a while to get there." He scratched the back of his neck.
"Awh, do I make you nervous, Mat?" You teased.
He quickly shook his head, "No."
You laughed, "All right, five minutes." You nodded.
-
You found your seats but before you made it, Mat insisted on buying you a hat from one of the parents outside. The merch had the team logo on it, and most of the people inside were wearing it.
"Wow, this is much more enthusiastic than I imagined for some reason." You laughed.
"Yeah, they can get pretty rowdy." He looked around.
"So, you go to many games in New York?" You asked.
He laughed, "A few."
"What does that mean?" You asked curiously, to which he only smiled, turning his attention to the ice as they began the national anthem.
By second period intermission, Mat had explained every rule of the game to you so you understood a little of what was going on, "Hey, I'm gonna get a hotdog, you want anything?" He stood up from his seat.
"A hotdog sounds pretty good about now." You nodded with a smile.
By the time Mat got back, the second period was getting ready to start, "Sorry, line for hotdogs was long." He handed you yours with a couple packets of condiments, "Didn't know what you wanted, so I got everything."
"It's all good. Thank you." you smiled, "How much do I owe you?"
"It's on me." He shook his head as you pulled out your phone.
"What? Mat we can't keep doing this. I have money, you know." You joked.
"I know, but I feel bad that I took so long."
"It's fine. I made a friend." You pointed below you to the kid who was sitting in front of you with his family. The kid waved, a look of awe on his face.
Mat winked. He knew the look on the kid's face. It was one he was all too familiar with. The look of recognition. The kid knew who he was, but thankfully, had the manners not to say anything.
By the end of the game, you were practically a seasoned expert. You followed Mat around the arena, thinking you were going to the car, but were confused when you ended up right next to the ice.
"What are we doing here?" You asked nervously.
"Well, since it's your first game, I thought I'd make it memorable." He smiled, "Your gonna ride the Zamboni." Your eyes widened.
"What?" He pointed to the big ice machine coming down the hall.
"So, who's it gonna be?" The Zamboni driver asked, looking between you and Mat. Mat quickly, without hesitation, pointed to you, "All right, hop on." The man smiled.
You got on the Zamboni, and it felt like an out-of-body experience as you drove around the rink. Mat watched, filming the entire thing, from the entrance off the side of the ice.
"That was crazy." You exclaimed as you hopped off.
"Yeah? I thought you'd like it." He laughed, sending a smile and a wave to the driver and the couple of workers in charge of the Zamboni.
"That was so cool, Mat. Thank you. I had a lot of fun tonight."
"I'm glad I was able to be the lucky guest who took you to your first game."
"Glad you were here for it. You're a good teacher. Thanks to you, I wasn't so clueless." You laughed.
-
"And you're absolutely sure there's nothing going on?" Mat asked.
Lauren sighed, "Yes, Mat, I'm sure. I'm pretty sure I know my own kid's schedule."
"Okay, I just want to make sure. These tickets were very expensive and I don't think they're refundable."
"And I told you, I can pay for her ticket." Lauren insisted with another exasperated sigh.
"And I told you I got it covered," Mat told her.
Both of their heads whipped over to the door as you walked in, confused at the way they both looked over at you, "Hi."
"Hi, honey." Your mom smiled, "Well, I'm going to get going. I've got some stuff to do. I'll see you later." She grabbed her bag quickly and kissed your head before leaving.
"That was strange." You laughed, setting your stuff down on the couch, "So, what're you doing here? Another hockey game?" You asked.
"Well..."
"Oh, please don't tell me you bought hockey tickets again. I had fun, but I think the next time we go, I should buy them because I feel like a moocher and if I buy them then you can't tell me no." You ranted.
He smiled, "Not like that, but I do have another surprise."
"Oh, no."
"Oh no" what?" He asked.
"Your surprises are always big and expensive."
"The hockey tickets weren't too bad and the record I got you was even cheaper than both tickets combined."
"Mat..."
"Okay, fine, this one's a little expensive." He handed you an envelope, nodding his head when you raised a brow at him. Your entire body froze when you read what the paper said.
"Mat Barzal." You gasped, "Are you serious right now? This isn't a joke?" You started looking around the room.
"What're you looking for?" He laughed.
"Cameras." You answered.
"Stop, I'm being serious. They're real." He grabbed your arms and sat you back down.
"Holy crap." You sat down, covering your mouth in shock, "You actually got Blink-182 tickets?"
"Yeah." He nodded with a proud smile on his face.
"How?"
"I know a guy." He shrugged, to which you raised a brow, "All right, my sisters pretty good at this, so I had her get them for me."
"Well, tell your sister I love her, and thank you." You were still in shock as you kept reading the tickets, "Oh, my God, now I have to find something to wear." You rushed off to your room.
-
"This is insane." You shouted over the loud noise of everyone in the arena, "And so are these seats. I don't think I've ever been this close to the stage for a concert in my life." You laughed.
"Yeah, Liana is really good at these kinds of things." Mat nodded.
"I really can't thank you enough, Mat. This means so much. No one's ever done this for me."
"Eh, it was nothing." He shrugged it off.
"Okay, just take my gratitude, will you." You both laughed. You took your seats and sat in silence, just taking everything in. Mat left a few times to go to the bathroom and get food, but you sat the entire time, wanting to remember everything.
-
After the concert, you were on a high. The post-concert depression was hitting, but it was worth it. You quickly went through your grocery list as your mom waited for you in the car.
"Thanks." You smiled at the bagger as you rushed outside. You set the stuff in the backseat then got into the passenger side, "All right, they had everything except tomatoes." You informed her, looking over at her. You could see the worry in her brows, "What is it? Did someone die?" You asked.
"No." She shook her head, "Honey..." She paused.
"Just tell me." You exclaimed.
"It's Mat." She started.
"What about him?" You asked, your mind racing as you frantically thought of every possibility.
"He's gone." She told her, her eyes screaming with pity and sadness.
"Gone? Gone where?"
"Milo called while you were inside. Said he went home."
"Home where?"
"Back to New York. Said the team called and said everything was cleared and he could come home." She explained.
"What team?" You asked nervously.
"You didn't know?"
"Know what, Mom?" Your brows furrowed together again, this time in confusion and hurt.
"Mat plays for the New York Islanders. A pro hockey team, like the big league. He was sent to Ivory because of some bad press and now that it's all cleared up they called him back." You sat back in your seat, taking in what she had just said. She watched you, worried, "You okay?"
"I want to go home." You told her.
"All right." She nodded.
As soon as you got home, you made a beeline for your room and stayed there for the rest of the night. You laid in bed, not even moving when your mom called for dinner.
She leaned in the doorway, watching you stare at the wall, "I'm gonna just leave this here." She said, setting the plate down on your nightstand, then sitting on your bed. "You feeling okay?"
"Why didn't he tell me?"
"I can't speak for him, but maybe he just wanted to forget about whatever was going on in New York." She suggested.
"But I wouldn't have judged him or said anything."
"I know that." She nodded, hugging you and kissing your head.
"I really liked him, Mom." You whispered, your voice going quiet as your eyes filled with tears.
"I know you did." She whispered, her own eyes filling with tears as she did her best to comfort you.
-
The months dragged on and eventually, you moved on. It took a lot of pushing from your mom and even Milo, but you started hanging out with a guy from your school and one thing led to another and you started going out.
"Y/N, Jared's here." Your mom announced.
"Coming!" You hollered back, fixing your shirt before hustling down the hall where Jared was standing, talking to your mom, "Hey, you ready to go?"
"Yeah." He smiled. You said your goodbyes to your mom before you were out and walking through Ivory. Jared was telling a joke, which made you smile.
"What is it?" Jared asked, noticing that you stopped laughing. He followed your line of sight over to someone across the street, "Who's that?"
"It's, uh," You swallowed harshly, "It's no one." You shook your head, "Let's go." You grabbed his hand and pulled him down the street.
Mat saw you from across the street and even from across the street, he could make out the look of surprise and hurt on your face. He saw you drag the guy who he could only assume was your boyfriend down the street and couldn't deny the pang it sent to his heart.
-
The next day, you had sufficiently ignored and avoided Mat, somehow. How you did it was a mystery even to you but you did it. All that progress came crashing down when he walked into the diner.
You were waiting for your mom and he had seen you from outside and rushed in, "There you are." He sighed, trying to catch his breath after running in.
You sighed, angrily setting your cup down as he took the seat in front of you, "Look, you have every right to be upset with me..."
"Hell yeah, I have the right to be upset with you. For one, you lied to me about everything, and two, you left without any explanation or reason. I had to find out through Milo."
"I didn't lie about everything."
"Oh, no, just your occupation and the real reason you were here."
"Look, I don't get why you're upset." Mat sighed, and the moment the words left his mouth, he knew he messed up.
You scoffed, "You have some nerve, you know? I get it, you didn't want people to know who you were or why you were here, but I thought, I really thought we had something special but then you just leave. No note, no email, not even a message in a freaking bottle!." You exclaimed, shaking your head, and gathered your stuff.
"I tried."
"I don't believe you." You turned and walked out the door, ignoring the looks the other patrons in the diner were giving you.
-
It was like was against you because as you turned the street with Jared, Mat was walking down the other side, his arm wrapped around some girl's shoulder, a girl you had never seen.
You slowed your pace but it was already too late to cross the street, "Huh, funny seeing you here." Mat commented.
"Yeah." You sighed.
"Do you two know each other?" Jared asked.
"At one point." You nodded, keeping your eyes on Mat.
"Well, are you going to introduce us?" The girl Mat was with asked impatiently.
"Right," Mat nodded, "This is Alexis."
"This is my boyfriend, Jared." You pointed to your boyfriend.
"And this is awkward." Alexis muttered under her breath, "Mat, I wanna go."
"Alright, yeah, we gotta go." Mat grabbed her hand again and they walked past you.
You sighed, linking arms with Jared again as continued your walk, "So, who was that?"
"Mat. He's just a friend, well a former friend." You corrected.
"Just a friend?" Jared raised a brow.
"Just a friend." You nodded, reassuring Jared.
-
Mat hadn't planned to be in Ivory for too long, but he wanted to make sure you accepted his apology before he left. Milo had caught a cold and Mat could barely cook, so Mat braved the cold and went outside to get food from the diner when he saw you and Jared standing in the park, seemingly in the middle of an argument. He didn't mean to eavesdrop, but you were in public and he was just there.
"Are you serious? You promised he was just a friend, but ever since he got here, you've been weird." Jared told you.
"Jared, please, can we do this somewhere else?"
"No, be honest with me, do you like him?" He asked. By that point, everyone in Ivory was listening in on your conversation.
"What are you talking about?" You balked, "This is so stupid, Jared. You're making no sense."
"I'm making perfect sense. Before Mat came to town, we were perfect. Everything was going great. Then he came to town and it was like a switch had flipped. Everything changed, Y/N," The way he said your name hurt.
You knew he was right, but maybe you were too blind and hurt by what Mat had done to see it, "Jared, please."
"No, no more. I'm done. I'm sorry." He shook his head, shoving his hands in his pockets as he headed for his car down the street.
You stood there, regretting not wearing a jacket. As you looked around, you then realized just how many people had heard your fight and it was just the icing on the cake.
You were tired and as soon as the first tear fell, you were running as far and as fast as you could. Mat stood in his spot frozen in confusion. Everyone was watching you, not stepping in to help, so he decided to do it.
"Hey!" He shouted, his voice echoing loudly enough for everyone to hear him, "Quit it!" Everyone quickly went back to what they were doing.
He sighed, following after you as fast as he could. He found you sitting on a bridge, over a lake. He could hear you crying and sniffling as he caught his breath.
"Y/N...?" He called out your name quietly so it wouldn't startle you, "Can I sit next to you?" You didn't say anything, so he took it as his chance to sit down, "Wow, you are a fast runner." He felt his lungs burn with every word he spoke and every breath he took.
"Took track in high school." You told him, sniffling as you both looked out onto the water, "Was it bad?"
"Nah." He shook his head.
"Don't lie to me right now, Mat." You sighed.
He hesitated, "All right, it was a little bad." He admitted.
"God." You sighed, wiping your eyes.
"But don't worry, it'll all be over by next week."
"Great, so I can't go outside for the next week." You sighed angrily, "You can go, Mat. I'll be okay."
"No." He shook his head.
"Just go." You repeated.
"I'm not leaving you alone." He stated. You sighed, rubbing your temple, "Me and Alexis, we were never dating." He admitted.
"What?" You asked, brows furrowing together at his random outburst.
"We were never together. We went on a date, yeah, but nothing more."
"Why are you telling me?"
"Just so you know you aren't alone." He reached over and grabbed your hand. He smiled when you looked at your hands together, but didn't do anything to remove your hand from his.
-
After Mat had followed you down to the lake, you had kind of been avoiding him. It hadn't been intentional at first, but it sort of just happened.
Mat saw you across the street and started crossing the street to see you, but you quickly ducked into a store and lost him. That was when he knew something was wrong. He thought he did something wrong, so that was why he avoided you.
You knew you had to tell him what was on your mind, so you decided to go to his place and tell him what was wrong. You knocked on his door and saw when he opened. thedoor, he looked like he wanted to shut it in your face.
"Before you shut the door, please let me say what I want to say, then you can shut the door in my face." You cut him off.
"All right." He nodded, crossing his arms.
"Look, I'm sorry I've been avoiding you. It's immature of me and it's wrong because you didn't do anything. It's all me." You admitted.
"What do you mean?"
"I like you, Mat. Like, really like you, and when you left, it hurt. I was hurt, and when you came back, I was surprised. You came back just as fast as you left. It was all happening too fast. I had gotten over you, I was with Jared, then you came back and threw a wrench into everything."
"Oh, my apologies." He narrowed his eyes as he spoke, sarcastically of course.
You narrowed your eyes back at him before you continued, "I'm trying to apologize for the way I've been acting and I just wanted to tell you that I really liked you and really liked spending time with you before you jet off to New York again and leave without a goodbye." You shrugged.
He sighed, running a hand across his face, "Y/N..." He breathed out.
"That's all I had to say. You can shut the door now if you want." You told him, turning on your heel and walking down the stairs.
Mat's brain was slower than his feet because before he knew it, he was calling out your name and picking up his pace. He grabbed your arm softly and spun you around.
He ignored the confused look on your face before leaning in for a kiss. When you pulled away, your brows furrowed in confusion, "Is that you saying you feel the same way?"
"Yes." He laughed, "I like you, too, Y/N."
"Oh, okay." You nodded, stunned by what just happened, "Can we kiss again?"

TIME IS ON YOUR SIDE. WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH IT?
Jonas Richard turned an ancient cassette player into a time machine, he never expected to come face to face with himself. Now, he has to decide to change the past or live the same hell over and over again.
Tumblr media
“That’s grandma.” he croaked. “She always cooks on Sundays.”
Jonas Richard stood across from an ageless face with freckles identical to his own. The wide set nose, dark and thick lips covered with a smattering of coarse hair, and round brown eyes made the stranger’s face a perfect replica. His chin dropped to his chest. Seconds ago, he stood in his tiny lab and pushed the rewind button on an ancient cassette player. He, now, stood in a recreation of his own garage, but the noon day light did not stream through the cracked window above his cluttered workstation. His favorite wrench was replaced with an older model with a worn yellow handle. A navy toolbox with rounded corners and sloping lid stood ajar and a cigar poked out from the opening.
The window’s-streaked pane held an indistinguishable garage with two short, round chested men staring at each other. One stood with his hand wrapped around a compact disc player, the other sat rubbing his temple on a low iron stool. The garage door, rolled to the ceiling, revealed the same scene. Another Jonas dressed in wide leg pants and flowing shirt, stood fiddling with the 8-track player slung across his chest by a tattered gray strap. Every door—every exit—was an endless loop of the peculiar encounter.
Each iteration was dressed in garments of eras past. The appliances of their garage were packed with artifacts rendered obsolete by modernity.
“That’s you.” And that’s you. And that’s you.” said Absolut. “You always end up right here and you never go back. You can’t move past this moment.”
“How?” Jonas asked.
“The how,” Absolut smiled. “Is never important. The ‘why’ should concern you more. I did the same work. Took the same steps. Visited the same days—scenes—over and over and over; and without fail, I end up...you end up here.”
“I just wanted to see her—my grandma, I mean.” Jonas breathed.
“I know.”
Absolut crossed to the screen door behind Jonas. He carefully peeled it open and nodded inside. Jonas tipped over to him.
“She’s in there.” Absolut said wistfully. “Like always, she’s throwing down.”
Jonas looked at the parallel scenario unfolding beyond the threshold of the garage door. He pointed at that iteration of himself.
“What about them?” Jonas saw the iteration pointing back at him.
“Them?” Absolut leaned his head against the door. “They are us. In every decade, in every lifetime, I end up here; and I always make the same choice—ask the same questions—work the same problems until...”
“Until what?” Jonas pressed.
“Until I sit on that stool and wait for the next stupid, nostalgic Jonas to blink into my garage. I sit here and wait to talk him through what’s next. He is you. You are me. And I...am.”
“How lang have I been here?” Jonas asked.
“A couple minutes. A few days. A lifetime. It's hard to say. My device is in here somewhere. My clothes are remarkably plain. Maybe I’m the original.” Absolut popped his head up. “Does that answer your question?”
“No.” Jonas said. “Why not go in?”
Absolut’s forlorn gaze was transfixed upon the silver haired woman shuffling around her sunlit kitchen as steam curled into the golden light from large bespeckled pots. A white apron tied around the waist of her chiffon dress and a ribbon of shining pearls around her neck, she hummed. Her warm tune resounded through the thin wooden walls and pulled on Jonas’ heart.

Tumblr media
She is an inexhaustible source of losses and forgiveness. Whenever she lets someone escape from her life, the silly girl is always trying to explain herself. She doesn't know that they leave because they don't want to stay, they just go away. She is always lost, screaming in the dark, "Forgive me, forgive me, forgive me." I remember one time when she said that so much, I thought it was the chorus of a song. When I met her on the street, I passed by and sang "Forgive me, forgive me, forgive me." She looked at me in a certain way, and I was left in the void, with no explanation. After I understood the story well, I felt embarrassed. It was the biggest embarrassment. We live wall to wall, so I always know when she is well, and also when she is bad. I want to break down the wall that separates us, hug her tightly, tell her that a new day will dawn, that a new love will dawn along with the sun of that new day. I will also apologize for that unfortunate day when I crossed paths with her on the street, but I am so full of embarrassments with my big mouth. I remember one time I was at a wedding of a cousin's daughter. The priest declared them husband. and woman and said, now you can kiss the bride, woman I said, everyone looked at me, and I made it even worse, she was the bride, but when he said, I declare you husband and wife, then I should have said, now you can kiss your wife, to this day I am considered the worst best man in the family, I broke the mood on the day that mattered most to the girl, hearing her say that way sorry, sorry, sorry without stopping, broke my heart, she was a good girl, passionate, sweet, fighter, before you ask me why I didn't go to her and declare myself, that's impossible to happen, I was the first man who made her scream so many apologies at once, when I came back after years of regret, she had just been left again, it was that encounter on the street that left me embarrassed, where I discovered the whole sad story since the day I betrayed her, now I will always stay close, because her pain shouldn't exist, I will only leave her side when she is truly happy, even if it costs me the world own happiness.

Introductions Pt. 3
Sorry I am Ill and did not go into work today so this is a bit later.
Warning: Drug use,
Space marine Husbandry Verse.
You finally get your new friend out of the pit.
The chainsaw sounds were what did it—you quickly turned around. Feeling slightly pathetic, you realized you’d only made it about a meter from the sinkhole before the familiar crunch of a chainsaw caused you to run back. There was some shouting from the marine and a shattering crunch that must have been the concrete giving way under giant metal boots.
“Hey!” you shouted as you hurried over to the pit, your legs feeling relaxed and loose. The green-clad marine was diligently ramming the end of what looked like an oversized chainsaw into the frozen earth around him.
“Holy shit!” was your elegant response as you watched him press the chainsaw sword into the ground. You held your breath, half-expecting it to buck back and take a limb with it. You saw it try to buck a couple of times as the teeth hit small stones or stubborn pieces of ice, but instead of kicking back and lopping off a limb, the marine kept a steady grip, simply pressing the chainsaw deeper into the dirt.
When you reached the edge, the marine’s head jerked up for a second, and you got the feeling he was pleased you’d returned. His obvious enjoyment didn’t stop him from his task, though, as he pressed the chainsaw sword into the earth with more vigor, stopping only when he’d created a large divot in the frozen ground.
Task complete, he stepped back and did his best to look up in armour that clearly wasn’t designed for it. He gave you a quick nod before getting back to work, gesturing to the wall and then starting another divot a little further up.
“Okay, so you're making a ladder. Not sure even the permafrost will hold your weight, dude,” you said, attempting to catch his eye and gesturing for him to wait. He looked up, saw you, and then promptly ignored you in favour of continuing to carve into the side of the pit.
“Oh, you're a stubborn bastard, aren't you?” was all you muttered as you looked around, checking your phone again to see if anything had magically given you service in the last five minutes.
The answer was no. You could, however, hear the deep rumbling of a snowmobile, and given it was poker night, there was a good chance it was passing on the road behind you. Sure enough, a single headlight and the distressed sound of a snowmobile broke through from the woods. You took a deep breath.
“Hey! Jona, or Russ, or Asha! I need some help over here!” you shouted as the snowmobile zipped closer. It veered towards you, and as it got closer, you recognized Asha.
“Hey! What's up—oh, the sinkhole's back.”
“Yeah, and there's a marine in it too.”
“What?” Asha dismounted, well away from the sinkhole, and wandered over, sniffing the air before giving you a sly grin.
“Holy shit… Yeah, that’s a marine. He seems to be making progress on whatever he’s doing.”
“I think he’s making a ladder,” you informed her, looking down at the unfolding situation. The marine, undeterred by her arrival, continued to carve into the side.
“Want me to get my tow straps and the backhoe from public works? I have Gordie’s emergency contact. They’re heavy, but I bet they’ll be quick.”
You looked at the marine, who was making slow but steady progress toward what looked like a ladder. “Even at this hour, I’m pretty sure they’ll get here before he’s finished that ladder. Let’s call Gordie—you’re talking to him,” you decided, preferring to maintain some level of professionalism.
You waited for the chainsaw to ease up before shouting into the hole again. “Hey! We’re going to get someone to scoop you out of there!” The marine looked up, replied with something indiscernible, and went back to work.
“He’s dedicated,” Asha remarked.
“I just want to know where he came from. It’s not like we get wandering warbands around here, and the ice road would be too thin for him to cross on foot anyway.” She lit a cigarette. “I’ll let everyone know what’s going on and that you didn’t get lost in a drift somewhere. I’ll call Gordie using Russ’s internet, too. I’ll be back in a bit with news—Gordie’s still at public works, so he might beat me here,” she added, patting your shoulder warmly before heading back to her snowmobile.
“Thanks. I’ll stay here with him, then,” you said, inching slightly closer to the edge of the pit. You heard the snowmobile rev away and saw the marine glance up at the sound, then relax and return to his cutting.
“We’ll get you out,” you told him and waited. Talking didn’t seem helpful, so you waited in silence. Time passed slowly, and after about 20 minutes, the marine had made progress, creating three giant divots in the ground. You figured he’d need at least five more, given the spacing, and eyed them skeptically, unsure if the frozen dirt would hold him.
You were pondering how to mime this when you heard the distinct clunk-clunk-clunk of tracks on ice. The backhoe was coming. With any luck, the ladder wouldn’t be necessary. The rumble and clank of the backhoe seemed to catch the marine’s attention more than anything else had. As it got closer, the ground started to shake.
The marine’s head jerked up at the sound, and he suddenly turned off the chainsaw sword, scanning for the noise.
You made eye contact, smiled, and gave a thumbs-up. The backhoe had crept up the road enough that the ground shook noticeably, and its lights were visible. The marine froze, then, in an almost hushed tone, gestured for you to come closer, his helmeted head scanning around constantly.
You smiled—the backhoe was coming up. But the ground shaking and the sound of the tracks could be terrifying if you didn’t know what was coming.
“It’s what we’re going to get you out with,” you explained calmly, making sure to look relaxed. Your smile and casual demeanour didn’t seem to reassure him, though; he seemed more stressed, gesturing sharply and speaking in what sounded like angry hisses.
“Hey, you’re good. It’s just a backhoe,” you reassured him, waving at it as it rattled closer. The marine stayed tense, but you waved the backhoe over.
The operator eventually emerged from the cab, sleepy-eyed, and gazed down at the pit with you.
“I thought we fixed that.”
“I mean, you probably didn’t expect it to have to hold up a marine,” you remarked, still watching the marine, who’d gone stock still, his unseen eyes apparently locked on Gordie.
“Think if we dangle the bucket down, he’ll get in?” Gordie asked, nodding toward the marine.
“It’s worth a try,” you said, although you weren’t entirely sure; the marine looked like a dog deciding whether to bite or not.
“Well, let’s give it a shot,” Gordie replied, returning to the warm cab.
Before long, the bucket dangled clumsily above the pit, slowly lowering. While you could probably climb inside it, there was no way the marine would fit. A loud hiss marked it locking into place at the marine’s chest height.
For his part, the marine stayed tense but seemed willing to approach the bucket. He hooked one leg into it, and Gordie slowly inched the bucket up, dragging the marine up and out of the pit, eventually swinging him to solid ground.
There was a flash, and you realized Gordie had snapped a picture of the marine as he was trying to extricate himself from the bucket.
“So,” Gordie shouted over the noise, “what are we gonna do with him?”
You hadn’t thought that far. The marine, however, seemed to have a plan in mind, as he immediately made a beeline for you. Before you knew it, he was looming ominously above.

Eldan looked down at the stinking human, with red glazed eyes and tried to decide what exactly he was going to do. None of his brothers were answering their vox and he did not know where he was. He should, go looking find out where he was, but something seemed to keep him by this humans side. He could still remember the sharp flair of panic that had taken over him when he thought they she was leaving.

Rating: M
Relationships: Levi Ackerman/OC, Levi Ackerman & Hange Zoë, Hange Zoë & OC, eventual Levi/Hange/OC

----- preview snippet below -----
The two of them slowly, gently, painstakingly bring Hange to a standing position. They wobble; Jonas places a steadying hand on their good shoulder as Shion slips her arms around their waist. “Am I holding too tight?”
“No. This is good.” But Hange’s tone is lined with discomfort.
Shion frowns. That’s not an encouraging sign for their ability to walk right now. “Jonas, can you pass my controls to me? I don’t want to let go.”
“Sure thing.” He gingerly reaches for the grips dangling from her gear and then presses them into her waiting hands.
“Thanks. Hange, wrap your good arm around my neck. Apologies in advance for hurting you.”
“There are much worse ways to get hurt.”
“Ha.” She peers at her right side, then her left, assessing how her cables will launch given Hange’s current position. ODM gear isn’t designed for more than one person, yet here she is, trying to maneuver with two people a second time. At least this attempt is being planned in advance. “Jonas, see any enemies?”
“No. You’re clear.”
Shion looks upward; these bizarre walls curve away from her but abruptly stop above the top of the stairs, giving way to a mixture of natural rock and brick that may have been the base of the original chapel. Whatever substance is glowing seems to be conducive to their hooks. So she fires at a slight angle into the ceiling. “I’m going to test our setup. Hold on to me as tightly as you can.”
“Mm.”
She slowly retracts her cables until her feet leave the floor.
Hange’s weight shifts in her arms, but they don’t fall. “I could get used to this.”
“Oi. This is an emergency.”
Their breath tickles her ear as they laugh. “Please let me enjoy one thing in this shitty situation.”
“That’s fair. You good?”
“Good enough. Let’s go.”

Before I wake up, I hear buzzing in my dreams. I’m standing ankle deep in water in my back garden. Clontarf. It’s green and filled with algae so viscous that I cannot see the bottom, and there are crocodiles. I don’t see them, but I know they’re in there, lurking, waiting for the chance to lunge at me and have my left leg like a chicken drumstick. It all makes sense in the dream. My phone is buzzing. Why do I have my phone with me? Who is ringing me when there are crocodiles in my garden?

“Mmph!” Jen tosses yesterday’s vest across the tent at me, and it startles me awake.
“What?”
“Your phone. Your alarm or something. It’s going off.”
“I don’t have an alarm.”
“Uh, well, then it's ringing.” She yanks the covers over her ear and settles back to sleep.

I press the green button. “Yeah?”
“Hello!” the voice on the other end is loud, cheerful. Too cheerful for- I check the time on the screen, -ten minutes past six in the morning.
“Huh?”
“Have I woken you up?”
“...it’s fairly early.”
“Oh, sorry. It is already after seven where I am.”
I sigh and sit up, noticing all the places where my body hurts. “Who's this?”
“Jonas!” He says, “Jonas Osterhausen? Remember? We have been emailing?”
Tumblr media
“Oh… yeah, yeah, of course. How are you doing, man?”
“Good, thank you. I was wondering if you received my most recent email. I haven’t heard from you.”
“Um, no, when did you send it?”
“Friday afternoon.”
“Right, well, I’m actually at a festival. I haven’t had internet access. Are you- is everything ok?”
“Yes, I was just once again checking about the deposit. My cousin is at the moment looking for a room, and he is ready to pay now, so I thought that if you had changed your mind-”
Tumblr media
“No.” I say, “No, no, I still want it. I’m sorry I haven’t sent the money, but I’m actually selling my car next week. There’s a buyer. I just need to get back to Dublin to do it. Don’t worry, I’m coming back from my holidays on, like, Wednesday, I think. If you could hold off giving the room to your cousin, I…”
Jonas is chuckling, “Yeah, dude, it’s cool. I’ll keep the room for you.”
“Thank you.”
“Okay, enjoy your festival. It was nice to talk to you over the phone like this. You’re much different when speaking English.”
I rub my eyes. “Yeah?”
“Your German is pretty bad, man.” The line goes dead midway through his belly laugh.

The sleeping bag crinkles as Jen turns over to regard me. Yesterday’s makeup smudged, black and blue and glittery, down her face. “Was that your new housemate?”
“Yeah.”
A pause. “So you’re actually going.”
“Of course.”
I can’t read her expression. “Oh, right.”
“You knew that.”
“Yeah, I just thought… never mind.” She flips over, settling back in with a yawn. “Did you kiss Evie, by the way?”
Tumblr media
I haven't forgotten what I did. Accompanying the memory is a strange, gnawing feeling in my guts, like I have done something irreversibly fucked up. “Maybe.” I say.
“Oh, dear.”
“How’d you know?”
“When we met you two at the market, you just looked like you’d been kissing. I can’t explain it, but you had those mad, black pupils.”
“Maybe we were doing MD.”
“You weren’t.”
Tumblr media
“Okay, well, whatever.” I plonk back down onto my sleeping bag and shut my eyes against the rising sun, glowing through the walls of flimsy nylon. But just as I am drifting off, I hear her stir again.
“Tell me what it was like.” She whispers.
“It was fine. None of your business.”
“Right. I was just asking because-”
“Go back to sleep, Jenny.”
“No, like, because I just needed-”
“Shh! Sleeping.”
Tumblr media
“Fine, fine. I’ll talk to you later,” she huffs. "Remind me."
And we try our best to sleep for a few precious hours, before the campsite comes to life around us once again and another day begins.
