Sim Jake x fem!reader: masturbation
summary: Movie night gets interrupted when you decided to get a little too comfortable with your roommate...
warnings: smut, jake being a horny little shit, masturbation, y/n being a lil straightforward (?)
word count: 1.7k
kinktober masterlist // masterlist // ko-fi
You had hit the jackpot when you found a friend like Jake. You two had met in college, when the history professor had paired you up for a research project. It was in an instant that you two discovered the amount of things in common that you both had. It was crazy. You bonded through your love for dogs, music and movies.
You had even met his friends and they loved you. They found you fun and such a great influence for Jake.
Soon enough, you were moving in together as roommates, when he had told you that his past roommate, Sunghoon, one of his best friends, moved in with his girlfriend and he was in need to split bills.
Movie nights were something that had grown and developed as a tradition between you two. It was two times a week, friday and sunday. On fridays, Jake was the one who could pick the movie and on sundays, it was your turn.
It was a sunday, meaning you had the privilege of having control of what you two were going to watch.
“No, please. Not Mean Girls again” Jake huffed as you hovered over one of your favourite movies.
“Oh, come on!” you whined.
Jake rolled his eyes. “We literally watched it last week! Pick another one, please. For my sanity. I’ve memorized it at this point” he chuckled.
“Okay, fine…” you sighed. “Mamma Mia?”
“Not a musical fan, to be honest” Jake shrugged.
“Okay, what do you like?” you scoffed. “I’m not watching Scary Movie like we did two days ago”
Jake snorted, “It’s a fun movie”
“It’s immature!” you whined. “I hate jokes about drugs and penises and farts. Like what is that?” you groaned. “The Eras Tour movie?”
“What?”
“Worth a shot, I guess” you sighed. “Joker?”
“Okay” Jake nodded.
“Great, popcorn ready?” you asked him and he nodded, handing you the bowl he had prepared.
You clicked on the movie and relaxed, placing your head against Jake’s shoulder. It was just an innocent move, you really didn’t think too much of it when you did it. It just felt comfortable at the moment and you two had shared thousands of moments like this.
But it wasn’t innocent for Jake.
His eyes immediately fell to your head and let out a shaky sigh, that he disguised as a cough while he cleared his throat.
“You okay?” you asked him in a hum.
“Yeah…” he said, trying to seem as nonchalant as possible about it.
Twenty minutes into the movie, you had downed the bowl of popcorn with Jake, so you left it on the coffee table in front of you. Jake didn’t expect you to get back to the place you were, right into his shoulder.
He decided to throw every thought out the window and carefully placed his arm around your shoulders, pulling you closer to him, resting his cheek against your hair.
You let out a giggle and let your hand fall to his thigh, caressing it with your thumb.
Wrong fucking move.
Jake went stiff as a rock and felt himself stirring inside his pants.
What are you doing? She’s just being nice and here you are, acting like a horny thirteen year old, Jake thought to himself.
He was glad you were too invested in the movie playing on the screen in front of you to even notice Jake’s big frown over his forehead as he mentally and physically battled the boner he was so sure was about to pop any second now.
You let out a sigh and squished your cheek even more against his shoulder. Your hand now went up and down over his thigh, in a loving manner. And Jake understood that, it was just that his freaking groin didn’t.
He gulped down hard and started thinking about things that could help ease the horniness creeping up his veins.
My grandma’s underwear.
Sunghoon’s smelly socks.
Layla peeing on the bathroom rug.
You on all fours waiting for him to just-
Alright. It was impossible.
He couldn’t really focus on calming down when the scent of your shampoo was invading his senses, your face was so close to his and your hand was so fucking close to touching his dick-goddamnit.
Jake had to get out of there as soon as possible if he wanted to preserve the last bit of dignity he had left.
“Y/N- I-uh, could you wait for me?” you heard him ask you and you looked up at him with a frown. “I just want to um… go to the bathroom”
“Oh! Yeah, sure. Let me pause the movie” you said and grabbed the remote control that was on the coffee table.
“No need” he muttered before sprinting towards the bathroom in a rush and closing the door behind him.
His back hit the door and his fingers fumbled with the buttons of his jeans. Jake kicked them off his legs and let his cock fallout from the confiness of his boxers.
Jake let out a content sigh, trying to be as quiet as he could manage, as he rubbed his palm over his shaft slowly. He bit his lip and clenched his eyes, trying his hardest not to moan.
He knew he was going to feel embarrassed about this. He literally got hard at just the touch of your hand near his crotch area. He twisted his hand over his base and let out a tiny whimper that racked through his throat.
Meanwhile, you were busy with your phone, answering unread messages and just scrolling through your Instagram feed. Your eyes fell to the hour and your eyebrows furrowed. Jake had spent almost fifteen minutes inside the bathroom.
You decided to walk towards the bathroom, just to ask if he was okay when you heard a low whine coming from inside.
You gasped. Your initial though was that he had fallen and hurt himself.
“Jake, you alright?” you asked out loud.
His eyes immediately widened and his hand stopped moving, frozen over his base. “I- I, I’m fine, Y/N, don’t worry” he said, trying to seem as casual as possible, but he knew he was failing miserably.
Your eyes widened. “Are you um… you know…”
“No, I’m not taking a shit, Y/N”
Jake didn’t know what was more embarrassing to admit.
“Okay… I just wanna know if you’re okay” you asked him in a small voice.
Jake shut his eyes with force and sighed. “I just got a little problem” he admitted. Well, he knew for sure it wasn’t little, it was just a way of saying.
“What is it?” you asked him , getting closer to the door.
Jake couldn’t think of a moment in which he felt more embarrassed than he was right then and there. “I’mhard” he mumbled.
“Eh?”
Jake let out a frustrated sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose with his fingers. “I’m hard” he said, pausing so you could understand each word.
You went silent and Jake panicked for a moment, debating if he should’ve told you or not. He started to think how fast he could pack up his bags and text one of his friends if any of them had a spare room which he could crash in, while he went searching for a new apartment, probably Jungwon had one, or maybe Jay-
“I can help you out” you stated.
Yeah, Jay probably has- hold up.
“What?” he asked. He didn’t trust his mind, maybe it was the desperation he had at feeling your hands on him.
“I said… I can help you out, Jake” you said softly. “Open up” you chuckled.
Okay, not dreaming.
Jake slowly placed the boxers back over his hard on and opened the door slowly.
Your eyes fell torturously slow over the tent in his underwear. You pressed your lips together into a thin line and smiled. “All of this because of a little cuddling?”
“Shut up” he said and grabbed your waist, smashing his lips against yours.
You smiled against his lips and opened your mouth, letting your tongue slip inside, curling with his own. He gripped your waist tightly, rolling his hard on over the front of your jeans roughly.
Your hands went down his chest, raking your nails through the process, and hooked one finger over the waistband of the boxers he was wearing, tugging them down and releasing his leaking cock.
“Holy shit” he gasped. “I’d never… I’d never thought we’d be here” Jake chuckled, moving your hair out of your neck and started nibbling on the skiing there, making your toes curl inside your shoes.
Your hand curled around his shaft and started moving up and down, applying pressure to the base and letting it twist on the points you noticed he was sensitive.
“Shit… go faster babe” he panted against the curve of your neck, digging his teeth into it. You obeyed, moving your hand frantically, thumb sweeping over the tip, collecting the pre-cum leaking. “Y-yeah, like that”
You smirked and, with your free hand, you grabbed on his hair, pulling him away from your neck so you could kiss his lips.
He groaned against your mouth, his hands shamelessly drifting down to your ass, squeezing them over your pants.
“I’m- I’m close…” he whispered against your lips.
“Then come for me, Jakey” you smirked, biting his lip and pulling it roughly with your teeth.
He nodded his head and you jerked him off even faster, pulling him to the edge. Jake spilled his load over your hand with a satisfied whimper, his forehead falling against your shoulder as he panted, trying to regain his composure.
You smiled and slowly took your hand off of him, wiping your palm with a towel. Afterwards, you threw it in the bin with the dirty clothes and looked at Jake in the eye.
“That was intense, huh?” you giggled.
“Yeah…”
Jake was looking at your face with a certain glint in his eye, and it made your stomach erupt in butterflies. But you had only one thing in mind.
“Want to return the favour?” you smirked.
Jake’s smile grew even wider.

Joker [Ren Amamiya/Akira Kurusu](selfship)
Selfship made for for Raven4004. I assumed Ren Amamiya like in the anime but in the game there is no canonical name and surname.
You can check my Masterlists both in English and Polish here. Consider supporting me on Ko-fi. You can also check out my commissions if you’re interested. Other selfships can be found here.
+ You met Ren at Leblanc when he was learning how to make coffee. You were his first customer, the one he served while Sojiro was away. The drink wasn't great but you figured the sight of Amamiya made up for the inconvenience.
+ Then you came back a few more times and exchanged casual information on trivial topics like the weather. In time, you started talking about school, where you learned some uninteresting information about Shujin Academy. The fact that he had a criminal record surprised you a lot. You found out about it from his guardian by accident but you didn't pursue the subject. However, it gave you the courage to tell him about your problem.
+ When you found a part-time job at a ramen shop, you felt like you had won the lottery. The stakes were high and the tips were big. Over time, however, it turned out to be just a front for another, less moral business. You wanted to leave but your employer made it difficult for you, and soon his true nature was revealed. He threatened to send out suggestive-looking photos taken secretly when a customer sat you on his lap.
+ Ren was surprised that you trusted him so much. Usually, he had to find out about such things from people himself or it happened by accident. He tried his best to comfort you. He brewed some lemon balm, ran for some tissues and sat Morgana on your lap. When you started crying in earnest, he rubbed your back soothingly, assuring you that everything would be okay.
+ At first, you thought these were nice but empty words. That's why you were so surprised when they became reality some time later. Especially since you accidentally fell into the Metaverse. The amount of new, fascinating information was extraordinary to you. It also allowed you to get to know Amamiya a little better from a completely different side. You awakened your persona by trying to save him, even though he didn't need it at all. In the process, you managed to change your boss's heart together.
+ After all that action, you made a lot of new friends. The Phantom Thieves group had a new member and it became common to spend time together. That's why you started to miss being alone with Ren. It slipped out when you were walking through Mementos one day. Joker smiled and asked if you wanted to go to the movies. You agreed and went to get a few drinks.
+ The previous sentence describes your relationship quite well. Sometimes you don't have time for everything, so you have to juggle different responsibilities. Whether it's investigating changes of heart or making coffee together in Leblanc. There aren't many moments left for typical dates, so these are especially important to you.
+ Joker is much more of a flirt when he shows his persona. You don't hold him back. He often kisses your hand or unexpectedly grabs you by the waist to sneak over the enemy. In the ordinary world, you are much more subdued. People see you as a quiet, in-love couple of busy teenagers.
+ Sojiro and Morgana are your biggest fans. Ren's guardian keeps inviting you to the coffee shop, saying you're a good influence on his ward. He also gives great advice when you're arguing (and makes much better coffee than your boyfriend but you'd rather not bring that up...).
+ You are not overly protective of each other. You usually know that the other is strong enough to cope. That doesn't mean that you leave each other in need but you usually just don't need it.
+ You eat curry. Lots of curry. All the time. You bought Ren a big pot as a present so he could make even better versions of the dish. He bought you a gun. For the Phantom Thieves' purposes, of course but you were very happy. Much more than you were over the bracelet for your last birthday.
+ If you ask him hard enough, he lets you wear his black coat but only for a moment. He doesn't mind when you take off his glasses to try them on and give him a kiss on the nose in return.
+ You're interesting. You share secrets that the world doesn't know, although you feel like your boyfriend still has a few more secrets. You hope to learn them all in time.

An idea I had about the Bat fam and what kind of music they would listen to
Alfred: prefers silence but on nights where he needs something in the background, surprisingly, Alfred is a fan of country music, preferint older artists but he is favorable to some newer stuff as long as it isn't stadium country.
Bruce: Old punk and metal, like the kind he heard at a punk bar he got in with shitty ids, in the late 80s high on acid with Harvey, this man thinks Nirvana was great but thought they didn't go hard enough.
Dick: as a child? Show tunes, if Disney put it out this man was humming it while kicking goons asses, later on in life? Dick has blossomed into musicals, but like, the kind your not thinking of, Dick belts out songs from Cats all the way to "Veronica open the please! Veronica open the door!" While banging on Tim bedroom door.
Barbara: Is a major fan of Lo-Fi, loves it since it is music but the lyrics don't distract her from doing her work, will play it in the library when it's slow
Jason: he grew up on the streets and that doesn't get a lot of options to listen to music...except in stores where they play the days top 100, he gets Vietnam flash back during Christmas time and he hears Mariah Carey, after his death and resurrection, he found rap and fell in love, loves all the lyricism and word play, has played Not Like Us on repeat for the last week even after the beef was done.
Cass: hard core death metal...and classical music. She does ballet dances to both. Nuf said.
Tim: as a child he was the kid who ripped fanaf songs off YouTube and played them as his ring tone, he still has those songs in rotation but has added folk punk and really obscure bands he finds with like 3 listeners...also is a fan of yacht core music...
Steph: Taylor Swift Girly, shares Dicks love of showtunes, huge BTS stan (while dating Tim she repeatedly "left" Tim for Jimin when ever they argued...Tim still has beef with him to this day)
Duke: Oldies, I can see him going through his parents old vinyls and tapes after they got jokerized to feel close to them and now he learnt all of Elvis's discography.
Damian; Anime songs. Cried the first time his listend to Blue Bird, listens to J-rock when he is painting, and even though he will try and hide it, he has a secret love for Bollywood music as well, probably was introduced to it while doing an early assassination with the League and kept with it as he left.
(Plus a few that I could think of)
Kate: she strictly listens to Alpha male work out music Playlists, heavy on the dubstep, can and will bench press your body weight to show you that no Chad SHE is the alpha here. (As well as Girl and red and Rio Romeo)
Bernard: listens to fan made game songs, meme songs (has all of the polish cow dance song memorized) chronically online taste, also has worked in kitchens so has a deep knowledge of rap and rock.
Roy: Dad music, loves a good jam sesh rocking out to KISS but because of Lian he now is immune to Baby shark being used as torture.
Jon: is a literal child. He is 12 and thinks that skibidi toliet is the best thing that has graced this world, he will tell Lex Luthor that he has Ohio Rizz, then do the griddy in the air and fly away.
#batfam#batman#DC#bruce wayne#alfred pennyworth#dick grayson#jason todd#barbara gordan#cassandra cain#kate kane#stephanie brown#tim drake#damian al ghul#damian wayne#duke thomas#bernard dowd#roy harper#my take on their music tastes#tell me if i am wrong#these are mostly off the cuff#but i love the idea of freshly new dad Bruce#who is all about thr goth and punk scene in fucking gotham#sitting down and watching a Disney movie for Dick#(also the trauma for him actually going to the theater..#fuck i will have to write that later#oh well#jonathan kent

Really tired of streaming services making absolute banger animated TV shows for adults, never advertising them, then canceling then because no one watches them, so I'm taking it upon myself to share some of the ones I've watched recently with the hope other people will hear about them for the first time and give them a shot.
---
Blue Eye Samurai
"A master of the sword lives life in disguise while seeking revenge in Edo-period Japan."
Probably one of my favorite animated shows of all time. Mizu, arguably one of the best sword masters in this time period, goes on a quest to eliminate four white men living in Japan, one of which is Mizu's father. The show focuses heavily on how factors outside of your control, such as race and gender, impact how others view you and how you view yourself.
Watch if you are a fan of: Complicated characters/relationships, revenge quests, gore, complicated relationships with gender and race, and absolute badass characters.
Where to Watch: Netflix
Undone
"After 28-year-old Alma nearly dies in a car accident, she finds that she has a new relationship with time; she develops this newfound relationship to find out the truth about her father's death."
Undone focuses on difficult relationships with family, including how your parents can have profound effects on you even after they're gone, and how to deal with grief. That, plus the added chaos of being able to travel through time.
Watch if you are a fan of: character studies, shows dealing with grief, time travel, trying to rewrite fate.
Where to watch: Prime
Scavengers Reign
"The crew of a damaged deep space freighter are stranded on a beautiful but dangerous planet."
A mix between sci-fi and horror, this show focuses on the crew of a crashed spaceship. Each (living) crew member of the ship escaped in pods, scattering them across the planet. They must fight to survive and make their way back to their ship on a planet featuring some of the most fucked up creatures I've ever seen.
Watch if you like: sci-fi, isolationist horror, body horror, creature features
Where to watch: At the moment, Max. As of May 31st, Netflix. Max canceled the show (even though it has a 100% rating 🙃). Netflix may make a season 2 depending on how many people watch it in the first few weeks after it comes to Netflix.
Harley Quinn
"The newly single Harley Quinn sets off to make it on her own as the criminal queenpin in Gotham City."
Honestly I was feeling a bit burnt out on super hero shows, but this one felt like a breath of fresh air. It follows Harley as steps out from the shadow of the Joker, no longer being one of his henchmen and struggling to find her identity as a single, independent villain.
Watch if you like: Superhero/villain shows, stories that focus on blurred lines instead of a clear distinction between good and evil.
Where to Watch: Max
Primal
"At the dawn of evolution, a caveman and a dinosaur on the brink of extinction bond over unfortunate tragedies and become each other's only hope of survival in a treacherous world."
This show is super unique in that there's basically no dialogue, but it still finds a way to display an absolutely gutwrenching relationship between two parents of different species going through shared grief.
Watch if you like: Brutality, heavily visual story telling, prehistoric stories, and tales of overcoming.
Where to Watch: Hulu
Love Death and Robots
"This collection of animated short stories spans several genres, including science fiction, fantasy, horror and comedy. World-class animation creators bring captivating stories to life in the form of a unique and visceral viewing experience. The animated anthology series includes tales that explore alternate histories, life for robots in a post-apocalyptic city and a plot for world domination by super-intelligent yogurt."
I love this show because you never have any clue what to expect. A siren living in a river falling for a deaf knight? An artist painting intergalactic art pieces? Three robots going on a field trip through the apocalypse to visit old human historical sites? You never know, but there's going to be love, death, and/or robots in it. Each episode varies wildly, so I'd recommend watching at least a few to get a taste for it, as some will resonate more strongly than others.
---
I'm sure there are lots more excellent animated shows, but these are all the ones I've watched in the past year or so. I'd love to see more recs in the tags, because I'm always down to watch more cool animations!
#i just want these shows to get the attention they deserve#animation#tv#personal#the life of an audio engineer#tv recs

Expanding on my thoughts from this post: https://www.tumblr.com/rovingotter/763436728814075904/heavy-spoilers-for-joker-folie-%C3%A0-deux-beneath-the?source=share
More spoilers for Joker: Folie à Deux beneath the cut.
The original Joker left it sort of ambiguous as to whether Arthur becoming the Joker was a good or a bad thing. I mean, obviously it was bad for the people he killed and the people affected by the in-movie violence he inspired, but there was some indication that this was actually a positive thing for Arthur’s mental health. He started the movie miserable and powerless and ended it smiling and surrounded by admirers. In the final scene, he seemed at peace with his new self, even if he was behind bars.
Folie quickly dismantles the idea that this represented a positive shift for Arthur. In fact it’s one of the first things the movie does.
The opening cartoon shows Arthur’s shadow coming to life, committing crimes in his name and then Arthur being blamed and beaten up as a result. When we see Arthur himself, he’s regressed back into his meek, quiet persona. He is, if anything, in worse shape than he was at the beginning of the first movie. He’s lost many of his endearing quirks, like his offbeat sense of humor. It’s hard to imagine this Arthur playing peek-a-boo with a random baby on the bus. He seems almost robotic. And this isn’t surprising, considering he’s spent two years being abused in the hellhole that is Arkham.
Some viewers were disappointed with this character regression, but it seems kind of inevitable. Like, he’s in a place where he’s locked in a room most of the time and is not even allowed to shave himself. He’s completely at the mercy of his handlers, and when he misbehaves he gets thrown into solitary confinement. He’s heavily medicated, on top of that. Of course being the Joker is not sustainable in this environment. It’s a reality check: the catharsis was temporary. Now he’s just trapped in hell, utterly alone.
(Though, still, they give us a moment where a fellow inmate asks for a kiss from Joker and Arthur just gently, nonchalantly kisses him on the lips. Kinda surprised no one else has talked about that?)
Enter Lee. From the beginning there are signs that she’s probably going to be a bad influence on him, but of course he latches onto her when she shows interest because for one thing she may very well be the first person to ever show romantic interest in him (Folie pretty much confirms many viewers’ headcanons that Arthur is a virgin who’s never had a romantic relationship) and for another, she’s a small ray of sunshine in a very dark place. But of course she’s specifically obsessed with the version of him from the TV movie…which is one of the many elements that makes this movie feel like meta commentary, because even though it’s probably not identical to the Joker that exists in our world, it’s a movie called Joker, about this Joker, which has inspired an obsessed fan who thinks it’s pretty cool that he killed those assholes and hopes that he’ll engage in more mayhem.
The movie also introduces Arthur’s lawyer, who from the beginning is pulling him in the opposite direction. She’s trying to get him actual medical help and reintegrate him into society, but first they have to convince the jury that it was the Joker personality, not Arthur, who did that stuff. Does she really believe that Arthur has DID? Who knows? But she’s working within an imperfect system, she knows that he is genuinely ill and wasn’t fully responsible for his actions, and she also recognizes that this is his best chance for avoiding the electric chair, so she tries to coach him on the right things to say to the press and the jury. Which Arthur is clearly not comfortable with, because it involves lying, presenting himself as weak and helpless, and also cooperating with a system that’s been fucking him over his entire life.
Soon enough, Lee is telling him to stop taking his meds, she’s setting stuff on fire and encouraging him to get into trouble, she’s bribing the guards so she can sneak into solitary confinement and fuck him, she’s telling him to wear his clown makeup to the trial and to fire his lawyer. Arthur’s lawyer, meanwhile, is like, “Listen I know she’s cute and all but this bitch is insane and you need to stop listening to her” and Arthur is like, “BUT DADDY, I LOVE HER.” Even after he finds out that Lee basically lied about her entire sad backstory in order to manipulate him, HE DOESN’T CARE. Because she makes him feel good. She’s the only person who makes him feel good. Even if she's probably going to get him killed.
Which—again, I think is a really interesting central dilemma for a movie! People say stuff like “nothing happens in this” but this is a shit ton of material to work with.
So I guess the question is, how did it go so wrong? Obviously, this movie did not work for most people. The reviews are abysmal. While there were aspects I liked, I left the theater feeling like I’d just been kicked repeatedly in the balls and the soul by a cackling Todd Phillips marionette. And not in a good way, in a “fuck you, I already have your money” kind of way. Is it just the ending? I mean, that’s definitely part of it.
I guess it’s the overriding sense that this movie is not pro-Joker but also not pro-Arthur. He makes the choice to be true to himself—and himself is Arthur—and then the movie viciously punishes him for that, even though it’s set this up as the right choice. Is the movie pro-anything? Is the message just “fuck everyone”?
I know people made the same complaints about the first movie—that it was nihilistic, that it didn’t have a message—but to me the first movie was a pretty straightforward exploration of how violence creates more violence. I did not think Joker was pro-Joker or pro vigilante murder, but the first movie did paint Arthur as a sympathetic figure who had snapped under pressure and made the wrong choices, and yet now, here—in Folie—he makes the final choice to reject his violent persona and reclaim his humanity, or at least take the first step towards that, even knowing it will probably cost him the love of the only person who cares about him.
And what happens as a result? More violence. Buildings explode, Lee abandons him, Arthur gets stabbed, the end.
Violence creates violence, and nonviolence also creates violence. Apparently.
In the end it just felt like the movie was delighting in its own sadism toward a character who'd already suffered tremendously, and not for any real purpose. I don't know what happened behind the scenes here. Artistically, I can still respect the chances this movie took. But I also fully understand the anger and frustration with it.

A bit of a shipping post + Bias List by fandom
Figured I should make an updated post. But interested in shipping with a character of mine? Awesomesauce! The easiest way to do that is to approach me via DM or send in a meme!
I am fine shipping with OC's provided there is some plotting / I know a bit about your oc's.
What I am fine shipping: I am fine exploring most types of dynamics even if they potentially toxic or unhealthy as long as both partners are adults.
What I am not fine shipping: I'm not interested in exploring the pretty standard stuff. I won't rp grooming or non-con, minor / adult ships, etc. You know the drill. These are pretty standard rp boundaries at this point.
I am okay with nsfw and will match any level my partner is comfortable with. Want no smut at all? Totally fine. Only okay with a fade to black sequence? Alright by me? Want to write all the horny details? I'll slap it under a readmore and tag it. I'm fine with it. The tl;dr is I will meet my partners where they are most comfortable.
'However, there are a certain kinks I refuse to engage with. When in doubt please ask me privately if it's something I'm okay with before exploring any type of kinkplay.
I send people shit posts of my ships in dm's. expect a lot of that especially if we plot a lot of stuff.
This is a living document, so as I think of stuff I will add to it as necessary.
Please note that while I am a fan of the pairings listed below, if a pairing is not listed here that doesn't mean I won't ship it. These are just my immediate faves c:

Game of the Year 2024
Hey everyone! 2024 sure was a year, huh? Alright let’s be honest, not a great one. At least not outside of video games. The fucking world is a giant mess. Anyway, the couple of small highlights in my life this year were:
Finally reading books regularly again
Finally got back into Netrunner
Finally finished Jump King
Onward to the Game of the Year list!
Honorables
Shelved by Genre
For the last couple years I’ve been putting some non-video game stuff into the honorable and this year we’re tossing in a podcast. Shelved by Genre is a bit of a book club diving into a bunch of fantasy and sci-fi stories. While they weren’t exactly the reason I managed to pick a bunch of books up again this year, the hosts have been really fun to listen to talk about novels I’ve read – and some I haven’t – throughout this last year.
Shadow of the Erdtree
I know I’m that weirdo Fromsoft fan who didn’t like Elden Ring as much as the rest of the world seemed to. The thing is, my issues were never about the mechanical improvements to the game, it was more the structure and design that seemed, frankly, bad at actually giving meaningful direction in the open world. Now years later jumping into the DLC was great because it basically corrected on almost all the issues of the base game I had and ended up being one of my favorite experiences of the whole year. Unfortunately you do still need to play most of the base game to access it and I feel weird about putting DLC onto my list in an official capacity.
Nine Sols
I feel like I’ve only gotten maybe 20% through Nine Sols and it’s already something that would be competing for my game of the year. Some of that might be recency bias, but the general pacing, movement, and exploration gives me a lot of the feelings I last got from Hollow Knight. While that perpetually delayed sequel continues to tease us all, this game is doing for me the same thing the protagonist seems to get from that life giving pipe-weed or whatever he is smoking.
5. UFO 50
UFO 50 is a weird game to put onto this list since it is more like a launcher for 50 other small games. I love the commitment to the collection being the works of a fictional development team making games spanning all the way back to the early 80. However this does lead to, especially with some of the earlier titles, a recreation of some of the more annoying parts of returning to older games. Luckily with so many games when I don’t find one particularly enjoyable I can just move on to the next one!
Even now I haven’t touched all the games in the collection, but I have really enjoyed a handful already that is well worth the price of admission. Some of my favorites I have engaged with include; Camouflage – a navigational puzzle game, House Party – a deck building game, and Vainger – a mixture of Metroid and VVVVVV. I know there is a meta layer to engage with which I just haven’t been driven to do (shocking given my love for games like Tunic), but this ends up on my list more as a value proposition. Do I love every game in this collection? No. Is there at least 2-3 games I think any person would have fun with? Yes.
4. Balatro
When you find run based games they tend to fall into two main flavors – Games like Hades where the choices you make will change how your skills work to make you feel powerful, and games like Balatro that dare you break them and make you feel good as hell while you do it. The basic structure of Balatro is so simple, play hands poker hands to get points and get enough points in a limited number of hands to move to the next stage. The big twist here being that you can start changing the cards in your deck, start making specific hands much more powerful, and of course modify every hand with your jokers.
Maybe you’ll strip out all your face cards or end up with only 2 suits rather than 4. Maybe you’ll make that one Queen worth a ton of extra points, but only if you keep her in your hand instead of playing her. Or maybe you’ll find some jokers that make a lowly Two-of-a-Kind feel like a better hand than a Royal Flush. There are not many feelings this year more enjoyable than playing a hand that’s point value catches fire to indicate you beat the threshold in a single hand.
3. Zenless Zone Zero
I am honestly pretty torn on my feelings about ZZZ and yet I’m putting it all the way up here at Number 3. The first few nights I played it right on release I found the initial cast of characters you get to interact with generally more annoying than fun, I found the strange TV Array mission navigation overly simplistic, and I started getting overwhelmed with how many different items existed to level up all the different pieces of any given character. But I had said over a year ago than then ZZZ came out I would give my first Hoyoverse game a full month for me to try and see why these games seem to be so popular. Luckily the basic action game combat felt good and it had great style.
As I unlocked more of the systems they started doing more with the TV Array stuff putting some puzzles into those missions that acted like breaks from the usual action gameplay and I started to appreciate them. I unlocked the systems for daily energy that lets you farm some of the leveling materials more easily. And maybe most importantly, I got to story content that had characters I found more interesting to engage with and to use. It all started to click.
Here we are some 6 months after release and there is no doubt in my mind that ZZZ is my most played game of the whole year. I am still logging in every day, enjoying the new story chapters, and rolling for more characters. That there is the big elephant in the room though. This game IS a free-to-play gatcha game and they sure do have some predatory hooks in there to try and squeeze money out of you. I will admit to putting a few bucks into the game for the battle passes, but I’m not precious about making sure to get every single character so I haven’t really run into any walls that make me feel like I NEED to spend more money. But all those hooks are there, in my face, and do make me pretty uncomfortable suggesting anyone try to get into it.
2. Dragon’s Dogma 2
I am kind of shocked at how much I enjoyed Dragon’s Dogma 2. We all know that I tend to fall off open world games even when I think they are generally good (looking at you Witcher 3). While I finally gave the original Dragon’s Dogma a playthrough at the start of the year, it was an old enough game that the open world still felt very constrained and it was the class systems and streaming that really got me through it. I did have a good enough time that I thought the sequel would be worth a shot and I am so glad I played it.
The game rewarded me for paying attention to the characters giving me quests, letting me know I should find a guard disguise before visiting the jail to investigate one of the prisoners. It made every little trip across the world feel like its own little adventure where I might be ambushed by a griffon or suddenly see a ghostly carriage. Though perhaps most importantly, the expanded pawn system granting them abilities beyond their classes helped me become much more attached to pawns beyond just my own. Running around successfully gave me a feeling closer to the tabletop experience of adventuring with my friends than any other RPG has gotten. And that is to say nothing of the excellent variance and fun I had playing all the different classes providing a great action experience on top of everything else.
1. Animal Well
A puzzle game with some extra layers has made it into my top 5 many times in the past. We did discover some of my limits for that kind of game at the start of this year with Void Stranger unfortunately, and coming off that there was a small part of me worried my patience for that kind of game had depleted. Animal Well was a breath of fresh air with its moody visuals, 2d platforming traversal, and Metroid-style ability gated map design. What really made it stand out was how well it managed to communicate small goals without directing you through text.
It is hard not to notice that the ghosts you meet so early in the game always seem to be in rooms with candles in them. And once you find your first match to light a candle you discover that the ghost doesn’t come back. Even more importantly though, a candle also lights up in that weird wall full on candles near the very start of the game! Once you add the interesting ways in which the game gives you so many alternate ways to use so many of the items and suddenly the game feels like you can break your way into places only to discover they thought of it too and reward you for it! Though perhaps just with another puzzle piece.
While I don’t think the bigger second ending puzzle hits the same kind of highs that the instruction manual from Tunic does, it is still an extremely satisfying achievement. Knowing how much more there is after that and the ways that the game was built not just to encourage community puzzle solving but actually require it for many of puzzles beyond that ending is impressive. But more than anything I’m just happy to see I still like the sense of discovery in this kind of puzzle game.

R.O.D THE TV Episode 26 | Epilogue (2005)
I was just planning on cutting the scene with Junior getting his hair cut by Michelle (because cuteness and an adorable fan art I came across brought back some good memories), but I really love the whole finale. Why the heck not? They all deserve happy endings... except for Joker and Wendy (sorry not sorry!). I can't believe those two aren't rotting in prison.
R.O.D the TV is an action/mystery/sci-fi anime series that aired from 2003-2004 in Japan and 2004-2005 in the U.S. (G4TV's Anime Unleashed block). The show was animated by J.C. Staff and Studio DEEN. The versatile Taliesin Jaffe was the ADR director for the English dub, which was produced by Jonathan Klein, Kevin Chu and Reiko Matsuo. ADR production was done at New Generation Pictures. The DVD release was licensed by Geneon Entertainment, Inc. (now expired); I think Aniplex of America now owns the rights.
There is also a manga starring the Paper Sisters titled Read or Dream, though it shares very little similarities with the TV series, apart from following the sisters. VIZ released an English translation after the show aired in America.
While not a super popular show like One Piece or Fullmetal Alchemist, the English dub of R.O.D the TV was praised and won several ADR awards by DubReview.com.
Rachel Hirschfeld (who was actually 12 like her character) starred as the super-powered, pink-haired lead, Anita King while Hunter MacKenzie Austin and Sara Lahti also starred as her equally super-powered, quirky sisters, Michelle Cheung and Maggie Mui. The Paper Sisters, as they're known, adopted each other, which can explain the different last names, though they were also named after the famous Hong Kong "action trio," Anita Mui, Michelle Yeoh and Maggie Cheung.
A 14-year-old Jessica D. Stone, of course, was featured as Anita's "friend" and/or "boyfriend" (depending on fan theories), Junior. Because she was still working under Disney's contract for the Playhouse Disney/Disney Channel series, Stanley, she used her initials "J.D. Stone," which was suggested by her agent and which made it easier to get cast as boys for anime dubs.

I have such a love-hate relationship with Mass Effect because on one hand, it is one of my favorite sci-fi universes and RPG series, but on the other hand, a lot of it is such a bad example of peak mid 2000s porn-brained video games, and sometimes those two aspects really get in each other's way.
In Mass Effect 2, they went through a lot of trouble setting up a semi-platonic romance between the ship's physically disabled pilot, Joker, and the disembodied on-board AI, EDI. It was really cute and wholesome because, obviously, a guy who has to spend most of his life in his mind and a girl who is literally just a mind are a perfect pair. Then in Mass Effect 3, they threw all that out the window and came up with the most ridiculously contrived excuse to give her a robot body with giant boobs and no clothes. Because of course they did.
Then there's the Asari. Every other species in the galaxy gets a ton of believable and interesting lore over the course of the franchise, and what does the pansexual all female species that's magically compatible with everyone else in the galaxy get? Their 3 life stages are teen, MILF and super-MILF! Their boobs never stop growing, and the only reliable way to tell their age is by looking at their size! The reason there are Asari strippers in every bar is because the super awesome martial art that every Asari knows just so happens to look identical to pole dancing! Does that make any sense at all? Who cares, they're hot!
And you can chalk all of this up to the creators just being horny, but somehow, that doesn't ring true. I think it's telling that the more higher ups at EA became involved in the franchise, the more obvious and stupid this kind of "fan service" became.
Sorry for the rant, I guess, but I'm just really glad we're past the era of video games when this type of pandering used to be commonplace, and apparently, according to a lot of current discourse, this is not as popular of an opinion as I thought.

GOTHAM BADDIES
You can find the art and all info here in my Pillowfort! (Due to Tumblr shenanigans, my main blog is now over on PF!)
WACK, BOOM!! THAT'S RIGHT! THE GOTHAM BADDIES ARE HERE TO TAKE OVER DA CITY
Oh where do i start??
I watched the Lego Batman Movie a little while back (yes, for the first time..) and i absolutely loved it! But most of all their version of The Joker is my favorite (For pretty obvious reasons if you've been followin' me at all) and im also a DC fan now
But another part i really liked is their Harley Quinn and the dynamic he had with her (aka no abuse and being buddy pals instead of partners) which i think fits Era's and Crimson's dynamic alot and i think their characters fit alot in these roles, so here the pals in crime are!
I also gotta mention the hell and back i went through for this drawing. it took me way too much time to get the lineart right and i had to recolor Era's outfit because of a pretty dumb mistake i made. So you all better consume this art
donot steal (they'll come to your house)

If you're interested in Era and Crimson, consider viewing the Radical Retrofit CARRD in my pinned post on my blog!
Other versions of the art below!

Fandom asks
17: the thing in canon everyone loves that you also love
GROUP CHEF JOKER IS EVERYTHING I ALWAYS WANTED. Thank you Strikers for my life oh my god. Other contenders from P5 include Ann and Shiho's scene from Lovers rank 9 on the rooftop (they're gfs, your honor), the themes and atmosphere of the interrogation room moments with Sae and how incredibly she embodies Judgment itself, everything about Jazz Jin, and the Sayuri hanging in Leblanc.
I don't get as much opportunity to to talk about the other Thieves in my fics...well, the published stuff so far, at least. I've got a lot in my docs for my Spiral Staircase WIP, especially for Ann, the Sakuras, and Yusuke that I adore. I'm looking forward to revealing it all eventually!
10: a blog that has made your fandom experience brighter
@palalife is one of the sweetest people I have come across in any fandom space and has so much art that will always make me smile
7: your favorite tropes to write
For genres, I will always jump at the opportunity to write angst, comedy, and/or horror. I actually have a huge but sadly unfinished cosmic and psychological horror P5 fic in my Google Docs based on my Akira's backstory for an RP with my wife we worked on. I was afraid of publishing it due to not wanting to upset fans of some other characters (even if I also love those characters).
Now onto tropes, there are plenty of things I'll read but the tag by itself won't necessarily draw me in. I love a good sci-fi AU though, particularly any sci-fi AU that's opulent, whimsical, or honestly anything that isn't based solely on war? They're harder to come by than fantasy AUs, but my god I devour them usually if they also feature characters I enjoy.
When I write, I usually go for canon universes? Sometimes a good coffee shop or other type of mundane modern life AU for a few fandoms. With my current fandom of P5, I think I love writing post-canon the most, no matter if getting together or established relationship.
Thank you for asking!

Comics this week?
Steelworks #1 - Solid first issue. Dorn makes some rookie mistakes as expected from a first time comic writer. Lot of talking, not much action, the scenes with Irons and Nat debating the impact of superheroics would have been better served if it had been the two of them verbally sparring with each other while physically beating up some bad guys. Good handle on the voices for Steel, Natasha, and Lana nonetheless, happy to see Pak's establishment of the Steel/Lana romance is finally acknowledged again. Ghost of Amertek coming back to haunt Irons is a good idea, as is Dorn establishing that Irons has his own ideas on what's best for Metropolis that aren't the same as Clark's. Didn't expect Dorn to be the first DC writer to use data pages post-Hickman, but I loved to see them! I can't find much info on if Dorn was a sci-fi fan before he was cast as Worf in Star Trek, but if so his use of data pages would make a lot of sense.
Batman #136 - Least the Multiverse bullshit is over, but now we've gone from rehashing Morrison to rehashing Snyder's Death of the Family. If that scene between Bruce and Selina is any indication, this Gotham War event will be the final nail in the coffin for the romance, at least for a good while. Bummed but unsurprised by that. At this point I'm only reading for the Zur plotline, the Batfamily and Catwoman plots aren't interesting me.
Shazam #2 - Didn't think that when Waid said we'd see the extended family relatively soon that he meant the second issue, but it was nice to see them all the same.
Flash #800 - Picked this up and overall I enjoyed it. Adams and Waid were the best, fun stories that celebrated Wally and Bart. Williamson was pretty good too, Barry finally gets to best the deadbeat dad accusations when it comes to the Tornado Twins. Johns' story was pretty basic, mostly just a recap of who Hunter is, but I liked how he took Williamson's retcon and used it to get Zoom back to being a villain in a way that makes sense. With Zoom back in play I wonder if there are plans to use him in Spurrier's run. Speaking of which, Spurrier's story was the weakest. I don't mind the drama with Linda - Adams made everything drama free and the sales were soft, so by all means introduce some tension there - and I liked the premise of Wally fighting Lovecraftian monsters. But this feels like it would be a better fit for Barry. I'll check out the first issue all the same.
Joker #9 - Hilarious that this book finally starts moving on the Jokers plot, just in time for a two month break for Knight Terrors. I don't know if I'll bother to pick it up again in two months, Rosenberg's decompression has become too much for me. Genuinely funny back-ups and one or two good jokes in the main book can't justify the price tag, or the snail's pace storytelling.
Immortal X-Men #12 - More is done with Colossus' mole status in one issue here than the entire X-Force run.
X-Men #23 - I regret giving Duggan a stay of execution. Why does Stasis keep coming across as a loser? Gets taken out with ease in Sins of Sinister, gets humiliated by Righteous here. Since Hickman left, Orchis has come across as a joke that the X-Men inexplicably can't crush instead of a legit threat. Not a great approach as we're right on the cusp of Orchis making their big move.
Loki #1 - Picked this up solely because Watters was writing, and he did not disappoint. Great story, reminiscent of Gillen and Ewing Loki of course, but also of Watters own Lucifer series.
Fantastic Four #8 - Continues to be great, glad the first two parter stars Sue and Alice.
