Foreign workers get preferential treatment.
Tumblr media
Recently, there has been a lot of discussion about raising the salaries of foreign workers. There are many reactions to this, but most of them are positive. Foreign workers are often underpaid, so this will be a big boost for their rights.
Countries with 30% salary increase for foreign workers
That country is Australia. In an effort to attract foreign workers and address labor shortages, Australia has increased the minimum wage for those entering the country on a TSS visa by 30% to $62.5 million. Along with this significant wage increase, a streamlined visa system has been introduced that aims to simplify the process for both workers and employers. The wage increase is expected to improve the quality of life for foreign workers by enabling them to work more efficiently and enjoy a better standard of living. These policy changes could also help to attract more skilled workers to Australia, boosting the economy and bridging the labor gap caused by the pandemic.
One such country is Taiwan. Taiwan offers a number of benefits to foreign workers, including improved employment conditions and higher salaries. For example, foreign workers in Taiwan can work fewer hours while earning higher salaries. In addition, Taiwan provides health insurance, pensions, and medical coverage for foreign workers. These improved conditions have made Taiwan one of the most popular destinations for many foreign workers to relocate to.
Why improve labor conditions?
Compared to the past, when foreign workers worked in domestic companies and faced disparities in working conditions, their salaries have recently increased and the system to protect their rights and interests has improved. Foreign workers who were previously employed as temporary workers are now covered by the Labor Protection Act and have the opportunity to improve their working conditions. This change in the working environment of foreign workers is largely due to the unionization movement and political movements. These movements are setting a good precedent not only in Korea but also around the world for protecting workers' rights and improving working conditions.

Is it time to go?
By Howard Sackstein
Today, the South African Jewish community numbers but one third of what it did at its peak. Though our numbers have shrunk, the vibrancy of our community has remained intact.
In the 1970s and 1980s they used to joke, “When the Jews go; it’s time to leave, when the Portuguese go; it’s too late.”
The clock ticked, and stopped on 7 October 2023.
The behaviour of the South African government was nothing short of betrayal. President Cyril Ramaphosa’s failure to condemn the 7 October massacre; his failure to reach out to the families of the two South Africans massacred in the Hamas genocide; his failure to act on the two South Africans kidnapped by Hamas; and his smirk blame of Israel for deserving the attack two weeks after the massacre, while wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh, will forever be a symbol of his Judas moment.
In American politics, they talk of a “tortoise on a lamppost”. Sometimes, the tortoise mistakenly believes that it got onto the lamppost by itself.
Ramaphosa’s spineless leadership has allowed his jihadist foreign minister, Dr Naledi Pandor, and her mujahidin director general, Zane Dangor, to direct foreign policy without intervention. Pandor mislead Parliament by claiming that there were no beheadings of babies and that Israel had attacked the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital. With no South African diplomats in Israel and Al Jazeera as her only source of information, Pandor meanders in the dark. Her ignorance, however, is self-inflicted. Her department was invited to view the 47-minute video of Hamas-captured atrocities, and declined to attend.
Hamas informs us that Pandor telephoned it to congratulate it on the success of its “Al-Aqsa Flood” attack on Israel. Pandor claimed that she was merely offering humanitarian assistance, but refused to release the “call-out” transcript of the conversation. As a convert to Islam, Pandor uses her own zealotry to pursue a pro-Hamas agenda to the detriment of South Africa.
In December, Hamas visited South Africa, was feted in our Parliament, and celebrated in the African National Congress’ (ANC’s) offices in Johannesburg. When Ramaphosa finally met the South African Jewish Board of Deputies, he sprinted to issue a statement and later, while meeting the Muslim community, stated that they had issued a statement as “we’re concerned there are distortions”. Given that the president’s statement was issued first, this both makes no logical sense and effectively paints the official representative body of Jews in South Africa as liars.
It’s a clash of civilizations. Jews have traditionally ascribed to the values of Western liberal democracy. In the ANC’s hard-left, revolutionary world view, Western interests must be opposed everywhere – in Ukraine, in Morocco, and in Israel. South Africa believes that it must be the vanguard liberation movement celebrating the imagined successes of Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, and Russia. Pandor is currently attending the 7th Africa-Cuba Solidarity Conference in White River.
But actions have consequences. The West is becoming increasingly disenchanted by South Africa’s antics. Last year, South Africa’s invitation to the G7 Summit didn’t materialise, and the currency has lost 50% of its value under Ramaphosa. The renewal of the African Growth and Opportunity Act looks increasingly precarious together with the approximately 250 000 jobs it created. South Africa is increasingly isolated from those countries which could help it the most.
Ramaphosa had a choice to turn South Africa into a Singapore or a Sudan. He chose Sudan.

Jo is the holder of a newly minted degree in English literature from one of the top universities in Laos. But the 22-year-old, who graduated only weeks ago, says he already feels "hopeless".
Confronted with a barren job market, the Vientiane resident holds no hope of finding work at home, and instead aims to become a cleaner or a fruit picker in Australia. His aspirations are low, but they reflect a hushed disenchantment spreading among his peers; the result of a severe and sustained economic downturn that has ravaged Laos for the past two years.
"Every person in this generation doesn't believe in the government. They want to leave Laos, they don't believe anything the government says," he tells the BBC. "Most of my friends have the same thoughts, but we only talk about it privately. If you say bad things about them in public, I don't know what will happen."
The economic crisis has been caused by a rash programme of government borrowing used to finance Chinese-backed infrastructure projects which has begun to unravel. The crisis shows little sign of easing, with public debt spiralling to unsustainable levels, resulting in government budget cuts, sky-high inflation and record-breaking currency depreciation, leaving many living on the brink in one of South East Asia's poorest countries.
Faced with a dire economic situation, and with the April shooting of activist Anousa "Jack" Luangsuphom underscoring the brutal lengths authorities in the one-party state will go to silence calls for reform, a generation of young Laotians increasingly see their future abroad.
"[Young people] aren't even thinking about change, it's a feeling of how am I going to get out of this country - I'm stuck here, there's no future for me," said Emilie Pradichit, a Lao-French international human rights lawyer and the founder of human rights group Manushya Foundation.
"If you see your country becoming a colony of China, you see a government that is totally corrupt, and you cannot speak up because if you do you might be killed - would you want to stay?"
The 'debt trap'
A sparsely populated, landlocked country of 7.5 million people, Laos is one of the region's poorest and least developed nations. In a bid to transform the largely agrarian society, the past decade has seen the government take on major infrastructure projects, mostly financed by historic ally and neighbour China - itself on a lending spree since 2013 as part of its global infrastructure investment programme, the Belt and Road initiative (BRI).
Laos has built dozens of foreign-financed dams to transform itself into the "battery of South East Asia" as a major exporter of electricity to the region. But oversupply has turned many dams unproductive, and the state electricity company sits in $5bn (£4.1bn) debt. Lacking funds, Laos handed a majority Chinese-owned company a 25-year concession to manage large parts of its power grid in 2021, including control over exports.
Also among the debt-laden megaprojects is the Lao-China railway, connecting Vientiane to southern China. It opened in December 2021 at a cost of $5.9bn (£4.85bn), but saddled the Lao government with $1.9bn in debt. Beijing says the railway has created an "economic corridor", but the numbers just don't add up for some economists, not least because Chinese state-owned companies hold a 70% stake.
"I'm sure people are happy to travel very quickly across Laos, but it's not justified at the cost that was agreed to," economist Jayant Menon, a senior fellow at ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute in Singapore, says of the railway.
All of this has added to Laos' ballooning debt, which is now ninth highest globally as a share of its GDP, according to the International Monetary Fund. Around half of that is owed to China, and Laos is now having to borrow more from lenders in the country just to stay afloat.
"Laos is so heavily indebted to China that their negotiating position is compromised," he said. "It's having to borrow just to service the debt. That's the definition of a debt trap."
The Lao government could not be reached for comment. But Mr Menon emphasised that Laos has repeatedly rejected other international lenders in favour of Beijing, perhaps because of a belief within the government that China "will not let another socialist country fail". He added that Beijing was also cautious about letting another BRI country default on its debt after Sri Lanka.
The only thing currently preventing that outcome are repeated Chinese debt deferment agreements - the conditions of which remain highly opaque. This has raised concerns over Beijing's growing sway over Laos. When asked if Laos is at risk of becoming a vassal state, Mr Menon said "that ship has sailed".
He said that the "macro-instability" caused by "massive debt accumulation" has also caused the decline of the Lao currency, the kip, which continues to depreciate to record lows against the US dollar. This has led to a decades-high rise in prices, and nowhere is this being felt more acutely than among ordinary Laotians.
'If I don't fight, I'll die'
"'I have never experienced anything like this year," says Phonxay, a frail looking woman in her 60s, selling household staples at a food market in Vientiane. She said her customers are buying less because "prices go up day to day", adding that August was the most expensive month yet. Her family has had to adapt to survive.
"My family needs to eat more cheaply than ever before. We eat half of what we used to eat," Phonxay says. "But I'll fight until the end. If I don't, I'll die."
But it's young Lao, their futures mortgaged off for the benefit of infrastructure projects offering them few tangible opportunities, that will bear the brunt of the economic crisis for years to come.
"Lao is very good to travel, but not good to live in," says Sen, a 19-year-old working as a receptionist in a hotel in Luang Prabang in northern Laos.
The city is bustling once again, with its Unesco World Heritage Old Quarter of pristine French colonial-era buildings filled with tourists. But Sen says times remain tough: "For normal people like me it's very hard. It's just better than living as a homeless person in India, and maybe just better than North Korea. I'm serious, we're just trying to survive."
He earns just $125 per month at his hotel job, but he doesn't see any point in going to university or applying for government jobs as he'd have to "pay lots of money" to corrupt officials to get anywhere as he has no family connections.
"At the moment, almost every Lao student like myself doesn't want to go to university," he says. "They study Japanese or Korean and then apply to work in factories or farming in those countries."
It's this "sense of discouragement among Lao youth… that needs urgent attention," says Catherine Phuong, the deputy resident representative at the UN Development Programme in Laos. She pointed to the "staggering" NEET (not in education, employment or training) rate of 38.7% among 18-to-24-year olds - by far the highest in South East Asia.
"We're especially concerned in Laos that with the debt situation we are seeing reduced investment in the social sector, including health and education," she told the BBC. "I'm sure you can imagine the impact that will have on this generation, not just in the coming years, but in the next 10 to 20 years."
But with the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, which has ruled the country since 1975, intolerant of dissenting voices, young people have had to turn to social media to air their grievances.
It was in March 2022, as inflation and the cost of living began rising, that Anousa "Jack" Luangsuphom created Kub Kluen Duay Keyboard or "The Power of the Keyboard", one of a growing number of social commentary Facebook pages critical of authorities.
The 25-year-old was drawing tens of thousands of followers when he was attacked at a cafe in Vientiane on April 29. CCTV footage shows a masked man firing a bullet into Jack's face and chest. A police statement days later blamed a business dispute or lover's quarrel. Jack survived the attack, but for his followers, the culprit was obvious.
"I feel really bad that the government would shoot him, that they would try to control us like that," says Jo, the university student in Vientiane, who follows Jack's Facebook page. "Jack is the voice of Lao people, he said things that normal people are afraid to say."
But these calls for reform will only be ignored or suppressed, and few know this better than Shui-Meng Ng - the wife of disappeared Lao civil society advocate Sombath Somphone.
Sombath has not been seen since being detained by police in Vientiane in December 2012, a time when his influence was growing and there was hope of reform.
Speaking to the BBC from her craft shop in downtown Vientiane, the last place she saw her husband the day he was abducted, Shui-Meng said voices like Jack's and Sombath's are squashed because they grow "too big a following" at times when the "Lao political elite are facing difficulties".
"Every time something like [Jack's shooting] happens, you see this," she said, zipping her lips. "People go silent."

So weird how the boomer/gen x middle class Singaporeans like my parents are blaming immigrants for lack of jobs in Singapore while also being the ones who invest in property, becoming landlords as a side hustle and not caring about and contributing to increasingly high rent. 😮‍💨
Also, foreigners tend to be the ones who rent??

Our Japanese Obsession
The Business Times explores the fascination with Japan in Singapore, which continues to grow at the speed of a Shinkansen.
Tumblr media
Photo by Fikri Rasyid on Unsplash
Everyone has a personal story to tell about Japan's hold on them. Apart from Mr Goh, Lin Weiwen's 11-year 'addiction' led him to quit his job in July just to spend two months in Japan and work on a book on Japanese wines.
"For some time, I'd been thinking of how to combine my love for Japan with my profession," says the former editor of Wine & Dine magazine. "I knew I wouldn't have time to do this and stay in my full-time job. So I decided to leave."
He became fascinated with Japan - besides watching Ultraman cartoons on TV as a kid in the early 80s - when he started learning the language in 2005. Once you do that, "you're already embracing its culture", he believes. Plus he always enjoyed Japanese food and movies - "especially the works of Akira Kurosawa and Takeshi Kitano" - and had Japanese friends at university in Adelaide, who shared stories of home with him.
Tumblr media
Photo by Jeremy Santana on Unsplash
His first trip to Osaka in 2008 was an experience everyone can identify with.
"Things were orderly, streets were safe and clean, people were helpful and service was top notch. Here was a country that in many ways resembled Singapore and yet was different in just as many ways. It was familiar and foreign at the same time - that was its allure."
That allure takes different forms for different people. "The music was what hooked me," says Dawn Yip, group operations director of the Jean Yip group. "Almost all the Cantonese and Mandarin songs were translated from Japanese in the 80s and 90s. The melodies were so beautiful it made me want to go there to study music and singing."
She was a teenager at the time, and was "very impressed with the way they do things - they're very organised and take a lot of pride in everything". Now she visits every year for work, food, the changing seasons and to practise the Japanese she learned in school. "It's the aesthetics, the way they carry themselves and behave."
Tumblr media
Photo by Victoriano Izquierdo on Unsplash
"The Japanese believe in eating well and in doing your work well, whether you're a bus driver, waiter or business owner. It's about treating the environment and people with respect - this attitude is why I love Japan."
Take a bowl of ramen, says Mr Lin. "It's simple, comfort food but presented with care. The char siu slices, spring onions, egg, squirt of garlic oil. They have their own position in the bowl like planets in the universe - they don't overlap. It may be a 500 yen product but the person doing it is giving a 1000 yen effort, making sure everything is in its rightful place.
A bak chor mee hawker is not going to say, 'I'll put the minced meat here, fish balls there'. It's a $3 dish and a $3 effort. It's not a bad thing. It's our culture. We were not raised to pay attention to detail, or to take pride in trivial or simple tasks. The Japanese are. It's something we can learn from them."
Tumblr media

Not a single person we spoke to can imagine the obsession with Japan abating any time soon. Come hell or high water (and occasional typhoon), we'll be there. So, see you desu neh?

Moonbyul's Future Spouse
Personality: Moonbyul's Future Spouse could be very closed off and mysterious. They aren't very upfront with their emotions due to fear of ridicule and judgment. This person is like an emotional sponge, what they don't say, you will see on their face. They absorb their environment and could possibly take on the feelings and emotions of others without meaning to. This person is likely an empath. They could have an inclination for music or have an interest in the arts. On a negative note, sometimes these people could resort to manipulation or gas-lighting. Usually they don’t mean to, but other times they use this tactic as a way to survive.
This person is in their head a lot, constantly thinking. They may be a worrier or a "what if" kind of person. They come off as anxious or on edge a lot, and it may cause Moonbyul to feel anxious in their presence. Because of this, they may prefer to be alone a little more than the average person.
This person may feel or seem "incomplete" as a person. This incompletion could be something that is unseen. Like for example, when you know something is off about someone but you just can't figure out what it is. OR this completion could be something like lack of a common personality trait, like they're unkind or they're dishonest. Things like that. Things that make them seem "incomplete" or "off" They may seek validity from others, or do things to make people like them. Like over-giving. This person may spend a lot of time reflecting or spend a lot of time in solitude because when they are asked to do something for someone even if it's something they don't want to do, they will do it. They may have a habit of giving themselves to others too often.
Career: This person could do long distance or remote working. Their job may include foreign communications or foreign travel. They may work in a group with others. Jobs that require meticulous attention to detail are perfect for this person. They could work for a foreign affairs agency, or are just in a career that requires them to travel constantly. They could also be part of an investigative agency. Whatever their career is, it is likely very fast paced and stressful.
Where: Afghanistan, India, Italy, Macedonia, Romania, Sicily, Ecuador, Zanzibar, Bhutan, Bolivia, Central African Republic Chad, The Ivory Coast, Gabon, Indonesia, North Korea, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Maldives, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Mongolia, Seychelles, Singapore, Ukraine, and Madagascar.
When: 9 Days, Weeks, Months, or Years from now.

If they were, then there would not have been a published article in the UK media just prior to the Earthshot announcement stating that they won't go on tour until "next spring," which is 2024. That comment wasn't an accident. I bet the Foreign & Commonwealth Office is pissed that William is going to fly all the way to Singapore--which is twice the distance of London to Boston--and
You must have missed that the same article said that their last tour was the Caribbean one, not the Boston visit, hence making a distinction between a tour and a visit. and making it clear that the article meant the first not the latter.
No one said that there'll be a "tour" to south asia, but there'll be a visit to Singapore for Earthshot like Boston last year and Kate (who won't be on maternity leave) will be there.
Tumblr media
You must have missed this post of mine from 15 May.
Me writing: "I bet the Foreign & Commonwealth Office is pissed that William is going to fly all the way to Singapore–which is twice the distance of London to Boston–and" NOT DO A TOUR. (forgot the last four words initially)
Was not an accident.
Will & Kate are at the level as heirs where they should be doing TWO TOURS per year at a minimum. It is a basic part of their job!
Apparently, this doesn't click in with many Wales fans because they act as if Will & Kate should just be able to joyride around on the UK government's dime for their passion projects around the world. The Duchy of Cornwall and The Royal Foundation aren't paying for their security when they travel around the world to Boston or Singapore. Duh! The UK government arranges & pays for their security on these trips with local governments.
You seem to not grasp any of this with your own statements ("No one said that there'll be a "tour" to south asia"). There SHOULD BE A FUCKING TOUR to Southeast Asia! What does the UK actually get out of William flying solo all the way to Singapore and back? The Earthshot Prize is not a UK government initiative. Parliament didn't vote on it!!
Neither Will nor Kate will be going on tour this year. They only did one tour in 2022. They are not doing ANY TOURS this year. They should be going on tour this summer, but they aren't! If they were, a tour would already have been announced.
Kate is pregnant. Instead of announcing, they're waiting until she's almost about to go on maternity leave before they make it public. I have no doubt that part of this is that they know they will get a significant amount of criticism for not doing regular royal duties and focusing on another baby. (The baby isn't the problem.) It's the lack of attention to basic royal duties.
The fact that the Foreign & Commonwealth Office is unable to use The Prince & Princess of Wales for diplomatic purposes on a regular basis must be nothing short of infuriating. Regular diplomatic visits are a basic part of the British royal family's job, and here are two grown adults in their 40s basically refusing to do that because it's not convenient for them.
TWO YEARS WITHOUT A TOUR!
UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE!!
And still people don't get it.

Name: Fang Ono Species: Hunter (Slayer) Occupation: Hunter for Hire Age: 30 Years Old Played By: Elle Face Claim: Jessica Henwick
"Doesn’t matter who or what gets in my way: I’ll always come out on top."
Born in Singapore to a Chinese heiress and a British-Chinese engineer, Huifang Xu (徐慧芳) was orphaned at a young age when a car crash caused by a yōkai took from her the only family she ever knew.
They were on a vacation in Japan, which the family had been putting off for months because of her father’s busy schedule at work. It was actually Huifang herself who pleaded for them to go, only to regret her whims when the tragedy struck. Although she survived the accident, she would have been devoured by the creature, if not for the timely arrival of a local hunter named Hiroyuki Ono (小野廣之).
Inside the overturned car, Huifang watched the hunter efficiently slay the yōkai. After the intense fight, the hunter was surprised to find the girl, whom he later dropped at a police station with his local law enforcement contact, thinking she would then be reunited with relatives. Three days later, however, the same contact informed Ono that none of the relatives wanted the girl back.
Apparently, the girl’s familial relationships have always been terrible. Her father was already distant to his own family before he ever married her mother while her mother was disowned after she decided to marry her father instead of a wealthy heir to a family business in Singapore. None of her immediate relatives wanted to take her in because they believed she’s bad luck, a belief she would subconsciously ingrain in herself, preventing her from making new relationships easily and sabotaging current ones.
Thus, the hunter took it upon himself to adopt the orphaned foreigner. Under the older Ono’s tutelage, Huifang, now calling herself Keiho Ono (小野恵芳), became an efficient hunter, ridding Tokyo and even Osaka of dangerous yōkai. The father-and-daughter pairing were fast becoming a nightmarish problem for the local monsters, which was why they enlisted help from an outsider, a monstrous gaijin, that was more than Hiroyuki’s match. Keiho could only hold her mentor, her father, in her arms as he breathed his last, promising to avenge him despite his wish for her to stay safe.
Through their contacts, she later found out where her father’s killer had disappeared to: Wicked's Rest, Maine. Using a shortened form of her birth first name, Fang, with her adoptive Japanese last name, Ono, she made her way to the other side of the world, shacking up with an old friend, Sara Fukuhara, at Harborside, intending to track down the undead that killed Hiroyuki and fulfill her promise of revenge.
But that was five years ago.
Huifang Xu Keiho Ono Fang Ono has failed in her crusade. Her father’s killer had long been dead, exterminated by another hunter, the news of which was brought to her too late. With nowhere else to go, Fang decided to stay in town, offering her services, the only set of skills she believes she has that’s worth any amount of money, to anyone and everyone.
What else was she going to do? Get a job at the boathouse? Become a fisherman? Nah, she’d rather make (un)life a living hell for the creatures that destroyed her life and get paid doing just that. It is what it is.
Character Facts:
Personality: Greedy, inconsistent, unpredictable, anarchic, independent, dynamic, self-confident, individualistic
She was born in Singapore to a Chinese heiress and a British-Chinese father, but when they died in a car crash due to an accident involving a yōkai while on vacation in Japan, she was adopted by local hunter Hiroyuki Ono (小野廣之) who saved her. Fang has since taken his last name.
Her birth name is Huifang Xu (徐慧芳) but she changed her name to Keiho Ono (小野恵芳) while living with her late adoptive father in Tokyo. She is currently using a shortened form of her birth first name, Fang, with her adoptive Japanese last name, Ono.
Non-supernatural strangers tend to refer to her as Huifang or Keiho while the more supernatural circles, such as fellow hunters and her victims, know her simply as Fang, sometimes exaggerated as the Fanged Oni.
She currently lives with an old friend, Sara Fukuhara, on the second floor of the latter’s electronics repair shop, Fukuhara Electronics, at Harborside. Sara’s shop employs two other women: Micaella Kikuchi and Nobu Aoki, who are both curious at how Fang survives without a day job but are too hesitant to delve deeper. Only Sara knows the truth about Fang being a hunter because one of Sara’s close relatives was also a hunter.
As a hunter, her weapon of choice is a katana with an oni hilt that her enemies had named the Oni’s Fang, though she is also well-versed in the usage of an ōdachi and a tantō. She has a naginata displayed in her room, which was given to her by Hiroyuki, supposedly a family heirloom.
She also wears a face mask that resembles an oni’s lower face when out hunting. Apparently, this was its whole thing back in Japan with Hiroyuki and a few others.
She has a dragon tattoo over her right arm. Do not ask about it. She won’t answer you anyway.
She has a soft spot for seafood, especially butter crab and sashimi. She also loves oden and has a personal tradition of eating chikuzenni every new year.

Working in Singapore
Tumblr media
Working in Singapore as a foreign national can offer exciting opportunities in a vibrant and diverse city-state. Here are some key points to consider if you're interested in working in Singapore:
1. **Visa and Work Pass Categories:** Singapore offers several types of work passes based on the level of skills, qualifications, and experience. The main work pass categories include:
  - Employment Pass (EP): For professionals, managers, executives, and specialists.
  - S Pass: For mid-skilled workers in various sectors.
  - Work Permit: For foreign workers in specific industries such as construction, manufacturing, and domestic work.
2. **Job Search and Networking:** Research industries and companies in Singapore that align with your skills and experience. Networking, attending job fairs, and using online job portals can help you find job opportunities.
3. **Job Offer:** Secure a job offer from a Singaporean employer. The employer will typically apply for the relevant work pass on your behalf.
4. **Employment Pass (EP) Criteria:** To qualify for an EP, you generally need to meet certain qualifications, including having a job offer with a minimum monthly salary, relevant educational credentials, and professional experience.
5. **S Pass Criteria:** The S Pass requires meeting specific criteria related to salary, qualifications, skills, and experience.
6. **Work Permit Criteria:** Work Permits are industry-specific and are available for sectors like construction, manufacturing, and domestic work.
7. **Documentation:** Prepare all required documentation, including application forms, job offer letter, educational certificates, passport, medical examination results, and fees.
8. **Health and Background Checks:** Some work pass categories may require medical examinations and police clearance.
9. **Application Process:** Your prospective employer will submit the work pass application to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in Singapore. Processing times vary depending on the type of pass and other factors.
10. **Issuance of Work Pass:** Once your work pass application is approved, your employer will receive an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter, which you'll need to obtain your actual work pass upon arrival in Singapore.
11. **Arrival and Formalities:** Travel to Singapore and complete the necessary formalities to receive your work pass. You may also need to complete additional steps, such as registering your fingerprints and photo.
12. **Quality of Life:** Consider factors such as cost of living, healthcare, education, and lifestyle when planning your move to Singapore.
It's important to stay updated on Singapore's immigration laws and procedures, as they can change. Consulting with an immigration consultant or seeking guidance from official Singaporean government sources is highly recommended to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.
When job searching, tailor your applications to the Singaporean job market and use local job boards, job fairs, and online job portals to find suitable employment opportunities.

TikTok is spelling out to its European users that their data can be accessed by employees outside the continent, including in China, amid political and regulatory concerns about Chinese access to user information on the platform.
The Chinese-owned social video app is updating its privacy policy to confirm that staff in countries, including China, are allowed to access user data to ensure their experience of the platform is “consistent, enjoyable and safe”.
The other countries where European user data could be accessed by TikTok staff include Brazil, Canada and Israel as well as the US and Singapore, where European user data is stored currently.
TikTok’s head of privacy in Europe, Elaine Fox, said: “Based on a demonstrated need to do their job, subject to a series of robust security controls and approval protocols, and by way of methods that are recognised under the GDPR [the EU’s general data protection regulation], we allow certain employees within our corporate group located in Brazil, Canada, China, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and the United States, remote access to TikTok European user data.”
Data could be used to conduct checks on aspects of the platform, including the performance of its algorithms, which recommend content to users, and detect vexatious automated accounts. TikTok has previously acknowledged that some user data is accessed by employees of the company’s parent, ByteDance, in China.
In a letter to Republican senators disclosed in July, TikTok’s chief executive, Shou Zi Chew, said a “narrow set of non-sensitive” US user data could be viewed by foreign employees if approved by a US-based TikTok security team. He added that none of the data were shared with Chinese government officials.
The privacy policy update, which applies to the UK, the European Economic Area, and Switzerland, and which goes live on 2 December, takes place against a backdrop of political and regulatory pressure over use of data generated by the app, which has more than a billion users worldwide.
The US President, Joe Biden, has scrapped executive orders from his predecessor, Donald Trump, ordering the sale of TikTok’s US business, but in their place he has asked the US commerce department to produce recommendations to protect the data of people in the US from “foreign adversaries”. The Committee on Foreign Investment in the US, which scrutinises business deals with non-US companies, is also conducting a security review of TikTok.
Ireland’s data watchdog, which has jurisdiction over TikTok across the EU, has also launched an investigation into “transfers by TikTok of personal data to China”.
Michael Veale, an associate professor in digital rights at University College London, said that under a recent EU ruling data transfers between the bloc and China would have to be vetted for security. “It is extraordinarily difficult to routinely send EU user data to China because contracts between a Chinese and a European company can’t prevent state access.”
Under an European Court of Justice ruling dubbed Schrems II, certain data transfers outside the EU must take account of “the level of protection”, with particular focus on access by state authorities, afforded to the user’s data at the other end.
Veale said China’s data laws could lead to questions being raised over the security of even limited data transfers. However he added: “I’m not convinced that the Chinese government’s focus is currently on spying on individuals’ TikTok data. They have other means to obtain private information. Growing and deepening an influential platform is itself a powerful goal.”
In a blog post last year TikTok said it was “aligned” with the regulatory direction set out by the Schrems II ruling.
In the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office, the country’s data watchdog, is consulting on new guidance for data transfers post-Brexit. However, the government has paused a new data reform bill.
In October, TikTok denied a report in the business publication Forbes that it was used to “target” US citizens. Forbes had reported that it planned to track the location of at least two people via the video-sharing app.
In the privacy policy update Fox said TikTok did not collect “precise location information” from users in Europe, whether based on GPS technology or otherwise. In its current iteration the privacy policy states: “With your permission, we may also collect precise location information (such as GPS).”

Eddy is maybe an overthinker. maybe a bit too polite.
Or no, that cannot be true. Eddy does not life the life of an overthinker— a cautious Eddy would be 3 years out of medical school, with a wife, a toddler, seasons tickets to the Sydney symphony orchestra and a heart full of regret.
an over thinker would not be in Singapore where a half-foreign language rolls off the tongue in an entirely foreign way, wouldn’t have learnt cameras and socialblade and adobe aftereffects. Would not still be carrying his case with him around the world, shoulder to shoulder with --------
and that --------
There is one place, always one place, where Eddy does overthink, in the few silent moments. Because really. what are they doing? 30 years old and still sleeping in beds down the hall from each other, still swiping through dating apps as if they expect to find someone who’ll--
Who will understand that is doesn’t matter who's finger E puts a ring on, Brett will always come first. Twoset will always come first. Eddy has his soulmate , he just needs a warm body.
And he almost wishes that the fans had it right, that they were like that because it would almost be easier to just lust after Brett; hand in hand with his love but he just— doesn't.
their love is not all-encompassing and maybe the god neither of them believe in is a cruel god.
Eddy maybe thinks too much.
he thinks about a future where he and Brett grow old together, and they still live in the same apartment and play the same duets and laugh at the same jokes and the joy that fills him just isn't enough to cover the panic- at doing it wrong, at not getting all of the parts done
degree. check job. check (unless his mother is counting which—well—) wife. house. lawn. kids. unfulfilled promises he doesn't remember making but still cant seem to free himself of.
its never cold in Singapore but he cant help but wrap his arms around himself, staring at a city that he feels too old for sometimes, the way it breathes and pulses long after the sun has set. He's too young for it too, sometimes, and maybe he’s just not right, never right.
the only time eddy feels right is when he's playing, filming with Brett, practicing with a wall between them, eating hotpot in silence because they don't really need words, not anymore.
and maybe he’s clung to that security a little too much, leaned on Brett's strength, his confidence and his “fuck you” but shit its nice to feel okay and if this is how he feels okay— shoulder to shoulder with Brett then--
then he's been chasing his happiness since he was 13 years old, him and Brett vs the whole world, and they’ve won again and again. fuck a dating app. fuck his unspoken promises. he has his. the world can overthink about the rest of it.
