the other thing is like. i know its partially my self esteem and imposter syndrome stuff but i dont always feel like the quality of my art is consistent....and i feel bad at the concept of money being involved and things not being Perfect lmao
#i am a bundle of insecutiy masquearding under a loud and cheerful guise ajkdkdfkgkghj#like idk when im drawing other people things i can just go 'this is just for fun so its okay if its not perfect'#and like being real at least right now im a Full Time Engineering student#maybe after i graduate???#but at the same time id feel bad because for so many people art is their Main Money source#and i dont want to be like. taking a space someone else might need???#which i know that isnt how it works but this is how my mind views it lol#sigh. i dont exist in the real world yet. we'll see how my potential future engineering job ends up going lol#the prophet speaks

I do find it so funny that I will graduate college days away from my birthday. Like my birthday is literally in between the end of the semester ("graduation") and commencement
It really will be like a joint graduation & birthday party for me lmao
#speculation nation#i dont really do birthday parties anymore. havent in a long time. mostly just go out and do smth fun around my bday. ya kno#also have cake but like not in a party way. just like. here's cake lol#but im probably only gonna graduate from college once. which means i might as well live it up and all.#invite all sorts of extended family and people who have known me. etc etc.#actually it just kinda sunk in that i am. Computer and Information Technology (Systems Analysis and Design focus) w a minor in Communication#like those are words. it's a lot of words but actually it really is pretty accurate?? like that's indeed what ive been studying.#now how much i *remember* is another question. considering how long ive taken to get thru school lol#but that's what people will see on my degree. that's my Thing. graduated in Computer Systems and Talking.#idk it's just weird to have spent so much of my life on this and like That's the culmination. it took so much work.#even beyond a normal 4 years. i switched my major *twice*. switched my minor too.#first year engineering to undecided liberal arts (as a temp major trying to switch to computer science bc i couldnt stay in FYE)#but then computer science sucked so i switched to trying to get into computer & info tech. which is different. and better.#and ive been in it long enough now that ive kinda forgotten but it did take some fuckin work to switch into it.#like i had to take certain classes first & i couldnt take them during the semesters that in-major students would take them#and i had to have my gpa up to a certain level etc etc. so many hoops to jump thru. i think it took me at least a year. or more. idr#but i made it in and thats my major. thats my thing. computers and information systems and communication.#doesnt FEEL like im an almost-graduate. but then i think about all the things ive taken and learned.#and maybe i dont remember a lot of the more specific things from these classes. but i took core lessons away from each one.#wont be able to recite the theories but i can live them. and thats the point of an education i guess.#anyways im gonna have to start job searching before too long and eughhbb. need to get my license first tho probably.#which i will... i will.... i have so many things to deal with... my life will be So Different in a year...#it will require me to put in the work now. but i can do it. and then a year from now. i'll hopefully be in a better spot.#living somewhere else. graduated from college. with a license and a car. maybe even an IT job of some kind.#kind of scared of trying to find a Big Boy Job. aka a job that requires a degree and networking and all that shit.#rather than just showing up and being like Hi i can do this job. i am not a total drain of a person. hire me please 👍#hfkahfks so many things to think about. and through it all i am still dealing with DEADLINES...!!!!#but yeah this is why my writing has largely been put on hold. idk i have a lot of things im dealing with rn.

anyway im free from my job now. all i have to say is death to the 8 to 5
#personal#the engineering chronicles#i get up around 6. out the door by 7 so i can get to my workplace before 8. i spend the 9 hours there (one hour for unpaid lunch). i get#back to my apartment at 6. that leaves me six (6) hours to myself AND THAT’S ASSUMING im not going to bed until midnight which gives me 6#hours of sleep. if i want 8 hours of sleep i need to go to bed at 10 which leaves four hours to myself. and this#is what we call living <3 cannot fucking wait to graduate and do this for the rest of my life#and this is no shade at my job specifically! my job is quite nice all things considered. but oh my god why is this the standard

I will continue being gone for a few days, sadly my original al plan of releasing the newest chapter of The Consequence Of Imagination's Fear has also been delayed. My apologies
Can't go into detail because its hush hush not-legally-mentionable stuff but today is my fifth 12 hour no-break work day. I'm also packing to move too in a fortnight (which is a Big Yahoo!! Yippee!! I'll finally have access to a kitchen!! And no more mold others keep growing!!! So exciting!!!)
#syncrovoid.txt#delete later#OKAY SO! this makes it sound like i have a super important job but really we are understaffed and ive barely worked there a year now#graduated college a few years early 'cause i finished high school early (kinda? it's complicated)#now i am in a position where i am in the role of a whole Quality Assurance team (testing and write ups)#a Task Manager/Planner#Software Developer and maybe engineer? not sure the differences. lots of planning and programming and debugging ect ect#plus managing the coworker that messed up and doing his stuff because it just isnt good enough. which i WILL put in my end day notes#our team is like 4 people lol. we severely need more because rhe art department has like 10 people??#crunch time is.. so rough..#its weirdddddd thinking about this job since its like i did a speedrun into a high expectations job BUT in my defense i was hired before#i graduated. and like SURE my graduating class had literally 3 people so like there was a 86%-ish drop out rate??#did a four year course in 2 BY ACCIDENT!! i picked it on a whim. but haha i was picked to give advice and a breakdown on the course so it#could be reworked into a 3 year course (with teachers that dont tell you to learn everything yourself) so that was neat#im rambling again but i have silly little guy privileges and a whole lot of thoughts haha#anywho i am SO hyped to move!! I'll finally get away from the creepy guy upstairs (i could rant for days about him but he is 0/10 the worst)#it will be so cool having access to a kitchen!! and literally anything more than 1 singular room#(it isnt as bad as it sounds i just have a weird life. many strange happenings and phenomenons)#<- fun fact about me! because why not? no one knows where i came from and i dont 100% know if my birthday is my birthday#i just kinda. exist. @:P#i mean technically i was found somewhere and donated to some folks (they called some different people and whoever got there first got me)#but still i think it is very silly! i have no ties to a past not my lived one! i exist as a singularity!#anywho dont think about it too hard like i guess technically ive been orphaned like twice but shhhhhhhh#wow. i am so sleep deprived. i am so so sorry to anyone who may read this#i promise im normal#@:|

I've Registered for my fall semester and they really do shove all of the history Classes in one room, and the room that every single history class is in never has the wifi working properly, or the ac/heating working properly.
#history class#college#community college#my school is only like 2 buildings so there's a limited amount of classrooms#The second building is I think just for the engineering students and/or nursing Students#most people at my school are either#1. working at the plants right after graduation#since getting a degree can get you better paying jobs#2. Nursing or medical tech student#I'd say a good chunk of the female students are in the nursing program and a good chunk of the male students are training to work at the#power plants#3. working on a transfer degree like I am#going to community college for basic classes is just so much cheaper and easier#also small classrooms#my classes have like 30 people max

also about autoCAD! according this rant an older engineer gave me, architects didnt start using autoCAD/other autodesk products until the 90s, when autodesk realized that if they got architects to use their products, everyone else had to lol
YEAHHH!! i found that too, it's buried somewhere in my 1700 words of author notes on tumblr LOL. grian, in this au, is pretty much like most people of the time period in that he knows basically nothing about computers and has probably never used one since they weren't particularly common, but he will very soon or over the course of his career need to learn since architecture is 100% a profession that uses autoCAD. he's going to get dragged kicking and screaming into the computer world sdflsjfsk
I had a fun little dive down the rabbit hole into CAD technologies while writing this chapter. I think I went into the story under the main assumption of "ah, it's the 80s, they don't have any modern technology" but that's not quite true, is it? It's the late 80s, for one--we're one year from being in the 90s. They're very much on the cusp of all of that technological innovation. Also, computer technology has generally existed far longer than most of us think, it just wasn't necessarily accessible to most of the public.
So while I was looking into CAD, I realized it was entirely possible for Mumbo to be learning it for his job in engineering. AutoCAD was released in 1982, which was directly in the middle of when he probably went to college in this AU. However, I don't know if he would have been taught it in his degree at that time since it was so new. He could, however, learn it from his job. I know that at my job one of the reasons I do most of the InDesign and ArcGIS work for my team is "ah, she's young enough to figure all that computer stuff out." I would not be surprised if that happened to Mumbo too. His bosses are probably like "fantastic he's young AND he's interested in it let's train him to do it" sdfjslfskl
Someone else mentioned CAD in one of my comments on AO3 so I was looking it up too. Something I didn't even know: the first 3D CAD product was released in 1987. Additionally, Boeing announced in 1988 that they would use a CAD software to design their 777 aircraft, which was the first aircraft to be designed entirely digitally. I read a different article about that that stated Boeing had used CAD in their engineering process for a few years before deciding to do it fully digitally, so it was definitely part of many company's "process" already within the 80s.
#quara asks#i wrote this whole post like i actually know how to use CAD#i do not i am not an engineering student or an architect#in my degree i was only taught GIS#i just like going down rabbit holes#im not sure if i mentioned grian and mumbo's ages in this story--they're both about 28#(theyre about the same age because i had them as going to school together)#my very rough estimate for mumbo's graduation is like 1984 so that's what i was working with#grian probably graduated also in 1984 but you need a two year's certificate to Actually be an architect so he wouldve got that in like 1986#presumably by 1986 i think they might have moved to the US at that point (mumbo was offered an engineering job in america by his employer)#so basically if we put 1988 as the year Everything Went Wrong for grian. he was just a lil baby architect barely out certification#thats why in the first chapter he doesnt want to skip work to go with mumbo because he's being given his own clients for the first time :]#i have thought. perhaps excessively about this au#hc_firewatch_au

#the fact that i framed my degree certificate and asked my father to hang it like one month ago and he never did#so now i put it on the kitchen table and asked him again and he still won't#instead he uses it as a sort of tray and it's full of papers and letters#once again confirming to me that A) he doesn't value it and my journey at all#B) believes I'm stupid like every time we talk just because it took me 4.5 years to graduate and have two more years to go#as if I weren't in the middle of a pandemic still depressed and trying to study engineering after a liceo linguistico#which yes it's a good reason for the delay but whatever#i don't have a job yet because i still need to study and you knew it before i started so like??? what do you want from me#oh and the hanging the frame thing. you'd think he was too busy to do it#he's retired. it's been two years. he doesn't want to do anything that doesn't involve a couch or a television#and I'm fucking exhausted#mom's still not feeling good the kid's still here basically everyday and who's got to take care of everything? me#and when I don't on principle i feel guilty and bad because no one is ever gonna tell him anything#sorry#rant

How To Get An Online Internship In the IT Sector (Skills And Tips)
Internships provide invaluable opportunities to gain practical skills, build professional networks, and get your foot in the door with top tech companies.
With remote tech internships exploding in IT, online internships are now more accessible than ever. Whether a college student or career changer seeking hands-on IT experience, virtual internships allow you to work from anywhere.
However, competition can be fierce, and simply applying is often insufficient. Follow this comprehensive guide to develop the right technical abilities.
After reading this, you can effectively showcase your potential, and maximize your chances of securing a remote tech internship.
Understand In-Demand IT Skills
The first step is gaining a solid grasp of the most in-demand technical and soft skills. While specific requirements vary by company and role, these competencies form a strong foundation:
Technical Skills:
>> Proficiency in programming languages like Python, JavaScript, Java, and C++ >> Experience with front-end frameworks like React, Angular, and Vue.js >> Back-end development skills - APIs, microservices, SQL databases >> Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud >> IT infrastructure skills - servers, networks, security >> Data science abilities like SQL, R, Python >> Web development and design >> Mobile app development - Android, iOS, hybrid
Soft Skills:
>> Communication and collaboration >> Analytical thinking and problem-solving >> Leadership and teamwork >> Creativity and innovation >> Fast learning ability >> Detail and deadline-oriented >> Flexibility and adaptability
Obtain Relevant Credentials
While hands-on skills hold more weight, relevant academic credentials and professional IT certifications can strengthen your profile. Consider pursuing:
>> Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related engineering fields. >> Internship-specific courses teaching technical and soft skills. >> Certificates like CompTIA, AWS, Cisco, Microsoft, Google, etc. >> Accredited boot camp programs focusing on applied skills. >> MOOCs to build expertise in trending technologies like AI/ML, cybersecurity. >> Open source contributions on GitHub to demonstrate coding skills.
The right credentials display a work ethic and supplement practical abilities gained through projects.
Build An Impressive Project Portfolio
Nothing showcases skills better than real-world examples of your work. Develop a portfolio of strong coding, design, and analytical projects related to your target internship field.
>> Mobile apps - publish on app stores or use GitHub project pages >> Websites - deploy online via hosting services >> Data science - showcase Jupyter notebooks, visualizations >> Open source code - contribute to public projects on GitHub >> Technical writing - blog posts explaining key concepts >> Automation and scripts - record demo videos
Choose projects demonstrating both breadth and depth. Align them to skills required for your desired internship roles.
Master Technical Interview Skills
IT internship interviews often include challenging technical questions and assessments. Be prepared to:
>> Explain your code and projects clearly. Review them beforehand. >> Discuss concepts related to key technologies on your resume. Ramp up on fundamentals. >> Solve coding challenges focused on algorithms, data structures, etc. Practice online judges like LeetCode. >> Address system design and analytical problems. Read case interview guides. >> Show communication and collaboration skills through pair programming tests. >> Ask smart, well-researched questions about the company’s tech stack, projects, etc.
Schedule dedicated time for technical interview practice daily. Learn to think aloud while coding and get feedback from peers.
Show Passion and Curiosity
Beyond raw skills, demonstrating genuine passion and curiosity for technology goes a long way.
>> Take online courses and certifications beyond the college curriculum >> Build side projects and engage in hackathons for self-learning >> Stay updated on industry news, trends, and innovations >> Be active on forums like StackOverflow to exchange knowledge >> Attend tech events and conferences >> Participate in groups like coding clubs and prior internship programs >> Follow tech leaders on social media >> Listen to tech podcasts while commuting >> Show interest in the company’s mission, products, and culture
This passion shines through in interviews and applications, distinguishing you from other candidates.
Promote Your Personal Brand
In the digital age, your online presence and personal brand are make-or-break. Craft a strong brand image across:
>> LinkedIn profile - showcase achievements, skills, recommendations >> GitHub - displays coding activity and quality through clean repositories >> Portfolio website - highlight projects and share valuable content >> Social media - post career updates and useful insights, but avoid oversharing >> Blogs/videos - demonstrate communication abilities and thought leadership >> Online communities - actively engage and build relationships
Ensure your profiles are professional and consistent. Let your technical abilities and potential speak for themselves.
Optimize Your Internship Applications
Applying isn’t enough. You must optimize your internship applications to get a reply:
>> Ensure you apply to openings that strongly match your profile >> Customize your resume and cover letters using keywords in the job description >> Speak to skills gained from coursework, online learning, and personal projects >> Quantify achievements rather than just listing responsibilities >> Emphasize passion for technology and fast learning abilities >> Ask insightful questions that show business understanding >> Follow up respectfully if you don’t hear back in 1-2 weeks >> Show interest in full-time conversion early and often >> Apply early since competitive openings close quickly >> Leverage referrals from your network if possible
This is how you do apply meaningfully. If you want a good internship, focus on the quality of applications. The hard work will pay off.
Succeed in Your Remote Internship
The hard work pays off when you secure that long-awaited internship! Continue standing out through the actual internship by:
>> Over Communicating in remote settings - proactively collaborate >> Asking smart questions and owning your learning >> Finding mentors and building connections remotely >> Absorbing constructive criticism with maturity >> Shipping quality work on or before deadlines >> Clarifying expectations frequently >> Going above and beyond prescribed responsibilities sometimes >> Getting regular feedback and asking for more work >> Leaving with letters of recommendation and job referrals
When you follow these tips, you are sure to succeed in your remote internship. Remember, soft skills can get you long ahead in the company, sometimes core skills can’t.
Conclusion
With careful preparation, tenacity, and a passion for technology, you will be able to get internships jobs in USA that suit your needs in the thriving IT sector.
Use this guide to build the right skills, create an impressive personal brand, ace the applications, and excel in your internship.

For the ask game: 4 & 21!
just answered question 4 :]
21. When did you start considering yourself a writer/artist?
oh shoot hmm. honestly this year I've felt like I really am an artist like fr. but I started considering myself one back in 2021 I think? when i spent a lot of time drawing and realized hey. i like doing this
i had just finished high school and I wanted to pursue a career in meteorology or astronomy or stuff like that. but whenever someone asked if I was sure about it I was like. there's something wrong i don't think i genuinely like this stuff. so thankfully the timing was very good and I got into my animation design degree instead. idk where I would be now if it weren't for the pandemic, it gave me time to draw and learn this about myself
ask game
#fun fact i have a chemistry degree from highschool :) it's useless now#my old classmates all working in the field and getting like biochem and engineering degrees or whatever#it was funny at the graduation ceremony. one of my chem professors chatting w us and asking what we've been up to#my friends all mentioning their jobs in the field and continuing their degrees too#and me just. haha yknow im a design student now#thank you for the ask!! <3#asks#captdedeyes#ask games

#ooc#the hilarity I have more ability in my one finger than the others in my industry who went to school at times it's kinda funny#also very sad#reasons why I left the industry: these well educated people telling me how to do my job when they only just graduated#meanwhile me with my actual work experience#me at them: what do you mean you can't reverse engineer something just from LOOKING at it#me at them and their lunches: what do you mean you don't make your own meals
