jiang cheng absolutely laying into him, saying “this is what you get for being an irresponsible brat, go eat your teacher’s scoldings tomorrow, see if i care”

-and then going down to the store anyway to purchase an unnecessary amount of supplies because jin ling started crying

Fic idea: Jiang Cheng was cursed to say and do what he really feels for a day.

He caresses Wei Wuxian's cheeks and says how proud he is of him. He hugs Jin Ling and confesses that he's the center of his world. He praises his disciples and expresses how happy he is for staying with him. He swam around the lotus pond on only his inner robes as he always dreams of doing. He sweet-talked Lan Xichen out of seclusion. He glared at Lan Wangji and told him to get lost.

Jiang Cheng is always the first person Jin Ling calls for whenever he is in trouble. Likewise, Jin Ling is always the first to rush to his aid, too 🥹

They will always be each other's first choice. Jiang Cheng's main part in the later part of the story was to protect and follow Jin Ling, after all! 💜💛

Jin Ling and his Jiu-jiu

Jin Ling is seven when he almost understands love.

It's past midnight, and he had had a very bad nightmare. Someone was chasing after him, calling him names and yelling that he was an orphan, and that his uncle was dead, and that he had no one left in this world, and so on and on and on—

He had woken up screaming, rousing his uncle who was fast asleep and had gone to sleep dead-tired. I woke him up, Jin Ling thinks guiltily as he twists his fingers into his uncle's shirt, burrowing his teary face deeper into his neck.

"What is it, A-Ling?" Jiu-jiu's voice, though rough from sleep, is soft and comforting as he cradled the boy into his lap. "It's just a nightmare, alright? No one is going to hurt you — I'll break their legs before they get to you."

Jin Ling giggles wetly, wiping at his eyes before leaning his head on his uncle's shoulder and looking up. His jiu-jiu was the best in the whole world. He was so handsome, and so cool, and all his friends were jealous of him because he was just so cool. Everyone loved him, though he was often grumpy — the only person he didn't get grumpy at all the time was him. And Sang-gege, of course.

Ah, Sang-gege. Jin Ling thinks, suddenly straightening up, before lying back down against his jiu-jiu's chest.

"Jiu-jiu?"

"Hm?"

Jin Ling hesitates, before leaning his head slightly up. "Jiu-jiu, can I ask you something?"

"Well, go on," his uncle tilts his head to a side.

"Jiu-jiu," Jin Ling whispers, closing his eyes as he leans his head back on his uncle's chest.

"Jiu-jiu, do you love Sang-ge?"

He hears his uncle's breath hitch, and smiles a bit when he felt his heart speed up under his ears. "Jiu-jiu?"

He heard his jiu-jiu huff before he asks, "Suddenly? What brought this on?"

"Well, Sang-gege loves you. So I thought you would—"

"He said that?" Though he doesn't look up at him, Jin Ling heard the sudden softness and something — hope? — in his uncle's voice.

"No, but he looks at you like that."

"Like what?"

Jin Ling makes a face as he continues, "Like Zhan-ge looking at Wei Wuxian."

"That's Da-jiu for you," his uncle corrects, and laughs as Jin Ling makes a face again.

"Like Da-jiu and Zhan-ge look at each other."

"Do I look at him like that?"

Jin Ling contemplates that for a moment, before shaking his head. "No, you are different. Your eyes go all soft, and sometimes I think you don't even breathe when Sang-ge is here. You go all warm and soft even if you snark at him all the time, and you almost always look at him like that."

Jiang Cheng's mouth has fallen open at some point. He opens it, closes it, then lets out a snort. "That's way too observant for a 7 year old."

Jin Ling smiles smugly at him, before commenting in wonder, "Jiu-jiu, you are so red right now, you look like tomato soup."

His uncle's smile gives way to a scowl as he lifts Jin Ling off his lap.

"That's enough for now. Go to bed."

"But jiu-jiu!" Jin Ling whines as he's dragged into his uncle's bed, and immediately smothered by blankets. "I don't wanna sleep! I wanna talk about Sang-gege!"

"I said sleep." Jiang Cheng climbs under the covers with him, switching the light off, and cuddling him close. Jin Ling sighs, observing his uncle's face in the soft glow of the nightlight. Then he whispers.

"Jiu-jiu."

"What?"

"When am I going to fall in love?"

"Sleep."

"But jiu-jiu—"

Jiang Cheng now cuddles his nephew closer, closing his eyes as he hugs him tight to his chest.

"Another word and you can go back to your room. Sleep."

Jin Ling huffs, annoyed, then gives up and closes his eyes too.

"Good night, jiu-jiu."

"It's almost morning now, idiot child. Sleep. Wake me if you get a nightmare again, okay?"

Jin Ling smiles wide at that, and nods against his uncle's chest, before dozing off.

"Ke... you just left like that. You have yet to call me... 'Father'! From now one, I won't have any family anymore. I regret it so much, son!"

Shocking twist! It's a jiujiu! And a baby nephew! Made of paper! What will I think of next?? ;)

Lol but anyway. I've made a similar papercraft before, but some of you lovelies may recall that my original sketch featured Jiang Cheng with his drama design, rather than his donghua design. So this time around, I decided to give that version a try! What do you think, lovelies?

(Also - can you tell I was excited to find a yellow-and-gold paper patterned with lotuses? Because I WAS.)

After guanyin temple, jin ling goes back to lotus pier with jiang cheng. He spends the day in a haze. He takes a bath to wash all the dirt and grime and grief off him, then dresses in purple yunmeng jiang disciple robes, because he didn’t have any spare jin clothes.

He has dinner with jiujiu without saying a word, then they say good night and jin ling goes to his lotus pier bedroom. He’s exhausted, but he can’t sleep. Fairy is curled up next to him and he pets her soft fur to try and calm himself down, but he can’t. He hasn’t cried. Not yet. But he can feel it coming as the events of the previous night crash over him. His xiao-shushu threatening him, taking him hostage. Then zewu-jun stabbing xiao-shushu’s heart. Jin ling didn’t know whether to grieve his death, or hate him for what he did. He couldn’t breathe.

He gets up from bed and exits the room, fairy quick to follow him despite the fact that she was dozing off. He stops right in front of jiujiu’s room and knocks on the door.

“LEAVE”, roars a voice inside.

“Jiujiu…” jin ling hates how weak his voice sounds, “jiujiu, it’s me.”

The door opens. Jiujiu is in his sleeping clothes, with his hair undone… and wet streaks on his cheeks, that shine silver from the weak moonlight coming through the windows.

Jin ling throws his arms around him and crashes into his chest, sobbing. Jiujiu returns the hug and cradles jin ling protectively, like he always did. But jin ling can feel him shaking, and there’s some moisture on the side of his head, where jiujiu’s cheek is. Jin ling cries harder. He feels his legs not holding him up anymore and they both slide to the floor, uncle and nephew crying in each other’s arms. Fairy lays down next to them, and lets out a soft whine, as if she’s sharing their pain.

Please tell me about mystery uncle, this story has so many uncles and so many ways this could go

this fic happened because I was thinking about Wei Wuxian getting the chance to be an uncle to Jin Ling in a modern au! I think a bit of estrangement has to happen even in a modern au, so I was wondering how Jin Ling would feel about an uncle that didn't appear in his life for several years. His parents didn't die in this situation so he grew up a little more well adjusted, but Wei Wuxian's name kind of haunts his family and always makes his jiujiu upset and his mama very sad, so in his little kid brain, he decides that he hates anyone who makes his mama cry. And then, unexpectedly, this mystery uncle that makes his family so upset just suddenly arrives on their doorstep. here's a lil excerpt

this was actually the first thing I wrote for this series! it was kinda just an experiment playing with the characters, but I might rework it somehow and make it a companion piece to the kidney transplant fic I posted a little while back

This one is gonna get long.

Lan Wangji gets Wei Wuxian to agree to come back to Gusu with him by promising to protect the remaining Wens with his life. Lan Xichen, and their uncle seeing how serious Lan Wangji is about this very reluctantly agree on the condition that the tiger seal is destroyed.

Wei Wuxian agrees, but something goes wrong after the group of cultivators attempting to destroy it manages to destroy half of it. Wei Wuxian makes a heroic sacrifice to destroy the remaining half, but is fatally wounded in the process.

(Note: Once again this is completely up to the author, but I think it's beautiful, and hilarious to have WWX die tragically in LWJ arms, and be lucid enough to understand LWJ's love confession before he dies, so when he comes back 13 years later the first thing WWX does is freak out about that. Just my personal preference.)

Anyway 13 years later things are kinda different. Many of the older Wens passed on peacefully of old, instead of being horribly murdered. Wen Qing works as a doctor under the supervision of the Lans. Wen Ning just just kinda chills out of sight unless he's helping LWJ, or the Lan juniors. Lan Sizhui was still adopted into the Lan clan, and everyone knows he's a Wen by birth, but no one ever comments on that because some idiot tried to threaten Lan Sizhui with that as an excuse once, and no one ever wants to see LWJ that pissed again.

I don't know if Jin Zixuan has survived because Jin Guangyao still exists,(probably not.) but Jiang Yanli is alive so Jin Ling doesn't have to be his Jiujiu's emotional support nephew. He's also already friends with the Lan juniors!

Jin Guangyao still killed Nie Mingjue, so Nie Huaisang is still out to absolutely ruin his life just like in canon.
