you know what, I AM a Jin Zixuan stan. As far as I can tell, he’s just about the only person who had real positive, action-taking character development without having to suffer some major loss to get perspective. Sure, he was an ass when he was a teenager, but a) who among us wasn’t, and b) consider his upbringing, good gods. I’m just saying, some people can realize they’ve been assholes to their teenage crushes without first cooperating to kill an ancient demon-turtle-snake monster. Some people can stumble through apologies and then a proposal, endure the w o r s t grudge-holding brother-in-laws-to-be, and build their fiancée a lotus pond in their backyard so she can feel at home in this strange new place. Fuck 15 angsty years of Inquiry followed by a drunken ribbon-based betrothal (that isn’t even explained to the betrothed). That awkward lotus pond was the sweetest romantic gesture in this entire goddamn story! And then, when Terrible Brother-In-Law 2 was late to his son’s party, he went to go pick him up, and tried to de-escalate a confrontation with his own cousin! Jin Zixuan doesn’t have the inherent dramatic instinct of most of the rest of the cast, okay, he’s just Trying His Best, and you know what? He’s doing okay!! His death is a tragedy for many reasons, but in part just because he was a good man!

First time we see it rain- Lan Wangji stands before WWX as he is about to take off with the Wen remnants. Lan Wangji lets him go. In letting him go, he chooses his sect over WWX.

Second time we see it rain- Lan Wangji plays wuji for WWX, after bringing him Emperor’s smile within Cloud Recesses. He keeps WWX with himself. In keeping WWX with himself, he chooses WWX over his sect.

Third time we see it rain- Jiang Cheng steps into the Guan Yin temple. What about our promise, he asks. But then, he lets WWX go. In letting WWX go, he chooses WWX over himself- WWX’s happiness over his own closure, over his need to be understood.

Fourth time we see it rain- It is Jiang Cheng again, but oh! He is so young, it’s more than a decade in the past. He diverts the Wen soldiers’ attention to himself. Once again, he lets WWX go. In letting WWX go, he once again chooses WWX over himself- WWX’s safety over his own, over even the hope of resurrecting the Jiangs.
