what was the point of lila thinking home was a feeling she didn't deserve and could never earn until she found diego. what was the point of them finding deep, meaningful love in each other. what was the point of lila opening her heart and confessing that all she really wanted was a family with him.

what was the point of developing diego and lila over two seasons, creating such a beautiful, chaotic bond, just to destroy it for no reason.

you know what, I AM a Jin Zixuan stan. As far as I can tell, he’s just about the only person who had real positive, action-taking character development without having to suffer some major loss to get perspective. Sure, he was an ass when he was a teenager, but a) who among us wasn’t, and b) consider his upbringing, good gods. I’m just saying, some people can realize they’ve been assholes to their teenage crushes without first cooperating to kill an ancient demon-turtle-snake monster. Some people can stumble through apologies and then a proposal, endure the w o r s t grudge-holding brother-in-laws-to-be, and build their fiancée a lotus pond in their backyard so she can feel at home in this strange new place. Fuck 15 angsty years of Inquiry followed by a drunken ribbon-based betrothal (that isn’t even explained to the betrothed). That awkward lotus pond was the sweetest romantic gesture in this entire goddamn story! And then, when Terrible Brother-In-Law 2 was late to his son’s party, he went to go pick him up, and tried to de-escalate a confrontation with his own cousin! Jin Zixuan doesn’t have the inherent dramatic instinct of most of the rest of the cast, okay, he’s just Trying His Best, and you know what? He’s doing okay!! His death is a tragedy for many reasons, but in part just because he was a good man!
