Oooo for a prompt: Jiang Cheng raises a-Yuan thinking he’s actually Wei Wuxian’s biological child

Anon, you really said “I will cater to Letter’s interests” with this ask.

When Jiang Cheng finds the boy, he’s still grieving. He hasn’t stopped grieving since they received the first terrible news of Jin Zixuan’s demise. He grieves, he rages, he cries and carries on. A circle reminiscent of the schedule followed by a boy burned out by loss.

He grieves when he pulls a-Yuan from the ash. The child is barely breathing, malnourished too, wrapped in an adult’s cloak.

Wei Wuxian, he thinks, and presses the boy close to his neck, hides his face when he hurries down a troubled path where his most trusted disciples wait. They do not question him, they ask nothing at all but how quickly they need to return home.

Fast, is his reply. He’s seventeen again, running across the countryside on bloody feet to get his brother home. He saved Wei Wuxian then, he saves a-Yuan now.

The healer asks him how old the child is and Jiang Cheng has no answer for her. He’s so very small, sleeping off his fever under her care. She thinks he is around two, perhaps a little younger, but they have no way of knowing. Everyone who would, is dead.

Like the rest of Jiang Cheng’s family, all of them, but Jin Ling. His nephew is a healthy baby, chubby fat and dressed in only the softest of silks. He’s loud too, crying out for parents he doesn’t have anymore, in everything but this, the exact opposite of a-Yuan.

Jiang Cheng hadn’t questioned a-Yuan’s presence in the Burial Mounds the first time round, too caught up in all his other anger. Maybe he should’ve stopped fighting with his brother to ask. Why would Wei Wuxian give everything up for the Wen if the Wen wasn’t his?

The following weeks agree with him. A-Yuan grows into Wei Wuxian’s smile, no longer asks for the dead as his memories disappear. Jiang Cheng wonders if his brows resemble Wen Chao, Wen Qing or her brother, any of them. Jiang Cheng has no clear memory of them he cared to keep, but he knows Wei Wuxian, hears him in the way a-Yuan phrases his question.

He knows his brother’s child.

Perhaps the other parent doesn’t matter, maybe the story there is as sad and terrible as every other.

His sister and her husband are dead, his brother is gone, his nephews are orphans both.

Jiang Cheng is tired of losing family.

The clan registry burned when the Wen attacked them. Jiang Yanli painstakingly wrote a new one when they rebuilt. He stares at her handwriting as he adds a-Yuan’s name to it. No one will ever look at this document, see that his sister put Wei Wuxian down as their brother, see that Jiang Cheng never struck him from the books, that he adds his son.

The Yiling Patriarch is dead, his legacy is cruel and terrible and it perished in the Burial Mounds.

The maids call him Jiang-gongzi, Xiao Yuan, Yuan-er, and a hundred different little endearments they’re quick to adapt for Jin Ling too when Jiang Cheng is allowed to take him to Lotus Pier.

A-Yuan loves his little cousin, and maybe if Jiang Cheng raises them together like this from the start just right, they’ll never break apart.

Only a handful of disciples know just where Jiang Cheng picked his nephew up, everyone else believes him a deceased cousin’s son.

It is for the best.

There’s no place in the world for Wei Wuxian’s son after all, none at all, unless he remains Jiang Cheng’s nephew first.

Being Army Can Be Exhausting

Some Army are going to hate me for this but at this point I don’t care.

First off, I really don’t expect anyone to read this and that’s fine because I expect it.

There seem to be some very blatant rules in being Army that I feel either get misconstrued or are enfrorced with iron fist and if not followed….well are you even Army? I’ve been Army for years but sometimes we can be toxic as all get out.

This of course doesn’t apply to all Army. Get it? Got it? Good. If you’re sensitive, leave. I’m not debating or arguing with anybody.

Now, I’ve made a few notes, walk with me here:

BTS Only!

Yeah, no. I’ve been a K-pop fan for 14 years now and I’ve seen this sentiment come and go. Guess what? It never sticks. While I love BTS, they aren’t the only group to ever exist. It may feel that way to a lot of Army, it’s simply not true. You liking other groups doesn’t make me or you any less Army. Sorry not sorry.

And while I’ve only ever loved two other groups as much as BTS (honestly I don’t see that changing), I’m not cutting off an industry because of some bs If Multi Not Army rule reinforced by some.

Being a Multi is not some grand betrayal to BTS.

Buy Everything, We Must Support!

I simply can’t express how much I disagree with this! You know how many people can’t “afford” to be Army if that’s the case?

This shit is expensive lol. It’s not for the faint of heart. While I’m fortunate to be able to fund my support for them, I very much recognize that it’s not the case for everyone. BigHit drops merchandise almost on the daily! Between BTS, solo endeavors, TinyTan and BT21 our money is vanishing out of our wallets monthly.

Now have I spent a good amount of money on BTS merchandise? Yep! Official and unofficial, I sure have. Even spent a good amount of money on both my BTS tatts. Is what it is. But again, that’s a privilege I recognize. Some Army can only show their support through YouTube streams. Why? They’re free. And I’m sure BTS appreciates them all the same.

The pressure to keep up with other Army financially is enormous and even if you don’t subscribe to that way of thinking, you’ve surely seen it.

“Look at my decked out BTS themed room or apartment!”

“I bought Gucci/LV/Dior because now that BTS are brand ambassadors I have to show my support!”

Good on them but good God. Next thing you know, you’ve spent thousands of dollars trying to keep up and living on ramen packets but it’s okay because…I dunno…Army? No! Get a white T-shirt, a permanent marker, write BTS across the front and call it a day. Again, you’re just as much Army as anyone else.

They’re a Solo! Stone Them!

This is my biggest gripe with this fandom.

They’re a solo, so what? It doesn’t automatically mean that they hate the rest of the group. I know, I’m cool with a few of them. Not all Solos are created equal. You people have turned them on par with Satan and it’s nowhere near that serious.

Sometimes, you gel with one member and one member only. Sorry people, that’s just true for some. Nothing against the other members at all.

And yes yes, they are some extremely problematic solos out there. Not negating that. I specifically talking about the ones that aren’t.

Have I personally been called a solo? No but that’s because I rarely express my views on anything BTS because you will be attacked for it if it’s not the most positive glowing view.

Also the things I’ve seen on X, Instagram, TikTok and here have shown me some of the idiotic reasons people are labled solos. These are the reasons I see the most on my side of these platforms:

“You only post one of two members”

It’s called having biases, have we forgotten about that?

“You only buy music from one member!”

My wallet, my prerogative. I love the group’s music but not all them seperatley. Oooo I said it!

Solo music wise I regularly listen to Joonie, Jimin, Yoongi and Jungkook’s music. I don’t necessarily vibe with Hobi, Tae and Jin’s music. I don’t dislike their music, it’s just not for me. But I do buy the albums in show of support.

“You only watch content with certain members and not others!!”

This goes back to my initial point, sometimes you gel with certain members more than others. I gravitate, like we all do, to certain personalities. It’s just that simple.

There’s also burnout. I can’t watch everything because I do sometimes get sick of them! Love them to Jin’s moon and back but sometimes, I need a break. Get over it!

Live, Laugh, Love, Breathe BTS

We have lives outside of BTS.

We have other interests outside of BTS.

BTS paved the way? I agree but I’m not going to get into Twitter and other social media battles over it. What’s understood doesn’t have to be explained.

There’s a certain sub group of Army that try to make the rest of us adhere to what their definition of what Army is. It’s not cool, it’s not fair and it’s out and out toxic. Your willingness to be incredibly overbearing and toxic doesn’t make you more of a fan than the next Army member.

It goes against everything BTS stands for and some of you have lost sight of that.

And I will forever die on that hill.

oooo for the AU Ask Game, an alternate universe where JYL marries someone else who isn't Jin Zixuan? (your choice on who she marries and why!)

Oooh this is a fun one! All right, here we go... this might change EVERYTHING lol

Who does JYL marry? There is absolutely no question in my mind that the best option in terms of inter-sect connections, and a desire on JC and WWX's parts that she be safe and cared for, is for her to marry Nie Mingjue. She would have had a chance to get to know him during the Sunshot campaign, and we all know NMJ drinks respect -women-juice for breakfast - and is a big softie, like look what he lets his brother get away with >.< So yeah, JYL goes to Qinghe and gets a spare didi out of the deal!

But why does she marry? Because yes, she still has feelings for JZXuan, but he's still a man-child who doesn't know a good thing when he sees it ;) But seriously, we have YMJ which is still rebuilding after the war and likely getting more and more in debt to get the supplies and manpower to fix up Lotus Pier, not to mention attracting new disciples to feed and clothe, so they'd need an alliance with another great sect - one that's stable financially and could even help YMJ. Gusu is still rebuilding as well, so they're out, and we've eliminated the Jin. THankfully Qinghe is a solid option all around (as stated above). And JYL has known from the time she was young that she would marry for an alliance, not for love - she would be the one to sit JC and WWX down to tell them it needs to be done (when they hear her suggestion of NMJ, that's the thing that gets them on board - they would have fought just about anyone else).

So at Koi Tower, things might be a little more uncertain because these clans are based on hereditary hierarchy, and without an heir along Jin Zixuan's line, his position is uncertain even if he's the only legitimate son. So JGS pushes for a marriage - even worse when he sees Qin Su's pursuit of JGY, because he'll be DAMNED if he allows JGY to marry before JZXuan. Sadly, I have no idea who he'd marry, probably the daughter of a smaller sect's leader (Yao or Ouyang maybe), but it would be a rushed deal and will make poor JZXuan miserable - but he'll do it because it's what's expected of him, and even though he will not love his wife, he will still give her far more respect than his father gave his mother (I know, low bar, but the boy is TRYING).

So with JYL engaged to NMJ by the time of the Phoenix Mountain Hunt, things go a little different - yes WWX will bust out the Wen remnants and fuck out of dodge, but JYL will go to NMJ and ask him to help WWX (at the very least give him a chance to explain instead of denouncing him with everyone else). This turns the tide for many things because once NMJ sees the conditions of the Burial Mounds and what's left of the Wen, he will be amenable to helping - but will do so under the condition that WWX give up demonic cultivation (and in fact he suggests Nie cultivation as an alternative - this will lead to a sad moment when WWX FINALLY comes up with a proper story and claim that WZL melted his core to explain that he's core-less, and after much crying all around, they can finally move forward from this mess).

So the Nie will lend their protection to the Wen in the Burial Mounds and actually suggest they move up into Qinghe - not by the Unclean Realm, but he will give them land to live on that isn't full of resentful energy, and they will have QHN's protection. This is good, and in return, a certain doctor meets NMJ and will start researching his condition to treat (and hey, if you wanna have fun, have her join NMJ & JYL, I'm easy ;)

So yeah! One change and everything changes like dominos :D

Oooo that’s a hard one! For the sake of making it easier imma set two parameters: imma list 2 favorite characters from each series i’ve read, and for the fav ships imma pick my fav non-main ship (since usually my fav ship is also just the main pairing, with one notable exception)

Dead Friend Forever ep 11

The problem with catching up with the show is that having to wait a week between eps means I forget what happened. I had to read through my notes from ep 10 to refresh my memory. But I'm ready now! Let's see who White really is!

Seriously, these opening credits are brilliant. The music with the shots and how it switches in rhythm... It really sets the tone and could honestly go on longer.

Anyway...

Oooo the recap reminds me that I haven’t really speculated about Fluke but I wonder if we'll find out that he was the one to post the video of Non and Khun Keng... Or if not, I feel like there is something he did do that we don't know about yet and I REALLY WANT TO KNOW.

Wow Tee is actually making me like him.

I feel like this scene between Non and Tee removes the need for a future Non to persecute Tee within the group in the house...unless Non's getting revenge on the rest of them, because it seems like the truth between Non and Tee is already out, Tee has already faced Non and accepted his own guilt. Something's just not adding up.

Ooooo Tee finds out that Non has a brother 👀

"When you pay off your debt you can go home" oh oh god what if Tee wishes this could apply to him?! What if he's paying off the debt of his parents and can't go home? What if he's jealous of Non for having a home to be able to go back to despite that home not being a loving one?

We don't know how Tee's uncle died yet...what if Tee had a hand in it? And maybe with Non's help? -> maybe too far-fetched...?

God I'm loving Tee more and more...I just don't see how we get to the future events unless HE'S the one 'acting' to get the others to own up to their guilt... Ahhhhhhhhh

Oh so Tee's dad IS alive...oh oh no, so Tee has to bear the responsibility of looking after him. Being 'friends' with Por (and Jin to some respect) must be so hard, so see him live in such wealth and be given everything by his parents. Ooof.

Ok, loving this conversation in the cafeteria...although they should be speaking A LOT quieter...confirmation that what Keng did was wrong, Por admitting he's to blame but that they all are, Fluke's 'love can destroy one's life' before we get to see Tee and White get together 👀, and fucking Top's face which I want to punch because IT ALL STARTED WITH HIM. Oh and I want to slap Por's mum for her comment on how Non was raised.

IF Non IS dead...it's probably because of internal injuries sustained by the beating he got...so it's the uncle's fault entirely...and he probably wouldn't have been able to sell the organs anyway because they would have been damaged/compromised. But that's all IF Non IS dead. Which I'm hoping he's not. But IF he's not I feel like it would take a lot for Non to build himself back up to take revenge on the group.

We STILL don't really know who White is, it's like he's there just so Tee can have one more shitty thing happening to him -> losing White. But that doesn't feel satisfying for an audience because we already know of Tee's guilt... So WHAT is this whole revenge plot for? Is it still for Tan and Phee? If it is then, WHO is the other person (because I still believe there IS someone else there...)? Ahhhhhhh

17. Best Kiss

oooo boy throwback to our best kiss bracket lol. Now I gotta say that I am a big fan of the Bad Buddy rooftop kiss. The lead up and everything about it are so perfect and it should be remembered as one of the best first kisses (and probably kisses in general) in tv history (not just bl). The runner up, the KinnPorsche goodbye kiss in ep 6 is also very special to me just with the emotion it conveys and it's place in the narrative. The first kiss in Semantic Error is definitely the best kiss I've seen in a k-drama. And Bai Lang and Jin Xun An's first kiss on the dentist chair in My Tooth Your Love is also really good and iconic. In terms of more recent kisses, gotta say that the Phaya & Tharn kiss in ep 11 in The Sign is really up there for me. Like there was just so much emotion and things being left unsaid by Tharn. It was everything to me.

This place was always quiet. Tonight especially so, even the server had yet to show themself.

For you, that was no problem. It was why you picked this restaurant, needing somewhere you could count on to be left alone after the day you’d had. Or the week. Or-

Well, safe to say, you were drained. College had been running you to the ground, all while your work was trying to load you up with more shifts as more of your coworkers left. You were one of the few not in a position to up and go, needing the cash.

Another perk of this place were the prices. Really, you didn’t know why it wasn’t busier. Good food that didn’t leave your bank account in mourning? Sure, it was a bit out of the way but you had never seen it full.

Equally, it wasn’t often that it was completely deserted. Today, you were counting your blessings for that.

Until a tinkle of the bell announced another customer. It was just the one, though, as a surreptitious glance over your shoulder told you. The new arrival seemed just as eager to mind their own business, sliding into a table far from yours and slumping backwards with a scowl.

Before he could catch your eye with that deadly look, you turned back to your own table. You weren’t blind to his attractiveness, but you were undeterred in your quest to ignore him nonetheless.

To your relief, movement finally made itself known at the counter.

Slipping from your seat, you made your way to order before the server decided to disappear again. You already knew your favourite dish here, the combination of sauce and toppings not one you had found anywhere else, so that made it easy for you.

Despite there being one more customer waiting, the server jotted down your order and swiftly left.

Shrugging, you turned to sit back down. It wasn’t your problem if the new guy had to wait. Your food was your priority.

As you stepped towards your table, the other man rose from the corner. Keeping your eyes averted from him, you headed to wait.

It seemed he had other plans.

The moment he drew level with you, he diverted without warning. No sooner could you blink than his hand was around your neck, shoving you backwards into a table. The impact was noisy, pain blooming in your lower back as the wooden legs screeched on the floor.

Gasping, your eyes found the man’s for the first time. Hard and steely, they froze you in place, helplessly trying to balance yourself against the poor table.

Gulping, you desperately willed your heartrate to calm. The man’s heavy brows were drawn together and his frown only deepened. Still gripping your collar tightly, he slowly raised his other hand, making you hiss in a breath and struggle to get away once more, fear hijacking your body.

This guy had a knife.

Were you really about to be stabbed? Way to top off the day you were having. Maybe he just wanted your wallet. You did have food to pay for, but your life seemed a bit more valuable in that moment.

Your efforts to shake him off were futile, and you grew limp as he poised the knife cooly in front of your chest.

With trepidation, you raised your eyes to his once more, preparing yourself to give in to whatever he asked so you could get out of this alive and back to your damn dinner.

Your confusion only escalated at his words.

“Weapons out. Now,” he hissed, “put them on the table.”

Clearly you stared back at him, stunned, for too long, because he jabbed the knife closer, pressing against the front of your shirt.

“Clearly you’re the one with the weapons here,” you retorted. Oops.

Watching the fury on the man’s face blaze to life, you gulped. You really were about to meet the end of a knife.

He opened his mouth, but another sound came first.

The door opening.

You let out a breath; another customer might just force your attacker to give up. But you tried not to feel too relieved just yet.

Whoever it was seemed to take a while making up their mind. Maybe the scene they were met with frightened them and the moment they unfroze they would bolt. But, after a very long few seconds, slow footsteps moved towards the pair of you.

Far from deterred, the man with the knife yanked harder on your collar. You stumbled once more against the table. Breath quickening, you diverted your gaze downwards and saw a smart pair of shoes stop close behind your assaulter.

“Let them go, Jin.”

The new voice sounded bored, but the reaction was instant. At last, the hold on your neck weakened, allowing you to slump backwards onto the table. Your mugger whipped around.

“…Jungkook?”

Staring at the scene in shock, you caught a glimpse of your saviour. Or was he? He may have distracted your attacker, but he seemed to know the man. Jin, he said?

The new man, Jungkook, was also in a suit, and clasped his hands easily in front of him. His mouth quirked into a smile, eyes flickering behind Jin to look at you. He seemed all too amused, a youthful spark captured in his eyes and sublte dimple in his cheek.

“I see you’ve made a start without me,” he observed.

“They’re… they’re not one of yours?”

Jin glanced towards you, and for the first time you didn’t find him intimidating. Gone was that hard frown, and instead he gaped not unlike a fish. Still, you held down your smile, not willing to push your luck.

Jungkook smiled blithely, saying nothing. One eyebrow raising, Jin turned back to Jungkook.

“But they… they ordered it. That dish…”

Jungkook shrugged.

“No one orders that,” Jin continued.

If you didn’t already know he was armed, you might have voiced your offence at that. He had jumped you, a complete stranger, and now he was judging your choice of dinner?

“Good to know that your intention was to cut straight to the chase,” Jungkook finally spoke up, brushing aside Jin’s line of questions, “and here I thought we had agreed to a peaceful meeting.”

“You- You set me up!” Jin exclaimed, “They’re a decoy!”

Suddenly, he had turned back to you again, and that anger had returned. The knife hadn’t gone anywhere either.

Jumping up, you hurriedly darted out of his reach, but Jungkook’s reflexes had you beat. His hand closed swiftly around Jin’s wrist, halting the knife in its course. The two men exchanged a heated stare, until Jin huffed and the knife clattered to the ground.

Heart still thunking against your ribcage, you glanced hopefully back out at the door. However, having moved closer when stopping Jin, Jungkook now stood in your way. He turned his attention to you.

“Sit down,” he smiled, gesturing with his free hand to the table you had just been attacked against. “Wouldn’t want to miss your dinner.”

Here me out...Namjoon x Lia...while I love Kaya, I feel like she's on the same serious level as Namjoon. Perhaps after he PhD studies, she can let loose...Also, I don't think she's dealt with her SA trauma all that well so the liveliness she may have had prior to the SA may have not completely come back.

Lia can bring more levity to Namjoon's glumness when he's dealing with the weight of the world on his shoulders....but your most recent fics of Kaya and Namjoon have me rooting for both of them. I also loved their chemistry especially during that birthday surprise in New York? I can't remember the state but it was in the US...also really curious to have the backstory of how they ran into each other. I can't recall if you went into detail but I remember Jin mentioning that Namjoon ran into Kaya as a chance meeting.

I can tell you’ve thought a lot about this ♥️ We don’t know much about what Kaya was like pre-SA - but I imagine she would’ve gone through some amount of therapy and is dealing with it even now, so it’s possible it could have changed her personality in some way. Namjoon is perceptive enough to notice signs of her slipping into a dark place and would probably know just how far to push for information and bring her back from it.

Coming to Lia - she definitely has some of the more nurturing qualities that I think you’re referring to about bringing Namjoon out of one of his slumps. Ironically, that was actually what I was talking about when I said she might find him emotionally unavailable - she’s probably sensitive enough to understand and empathise, but I don’t see her being particularly philosophical herself so I’m not sure if she would really know how to deal with it too much.

I think his protective nature is capable of making her feel a bit suffocated too. Kaya, despite taking pride in her independence and all, does sort of lean into it and likes having that security - possibly exacerbated by her past. Having said that, you never know how people react in a situation until they’re actually in it so under the right circumstances, they could probably work. Being the same age - and in the same location! - could change things for sure.

Rooting for Kaya and Namjoon is so easy, haha! Yes, the fic you’re referring to was set in Connecticut, Kaya’s hometown, and was the most slice of life I’ve ever written for them. Their initial meeting is summarised here - and an excerpt was posted a few weeks ago on the Discord server 💜

Let's not forget that some people (Jin Guangshan) would try to use the situation to their advantage to gain power through slander and manipulation.

I believe that if Madam Yu lives, nothing would really change for her other than that she would probably treat Wei Wuxian worse. With Jiang Cheng being sect leader, I highly doubt that her actions when the Wens came to invade would get out, and if they did she could easily just play it off as mindless gossip or Wen remnant lies.

Her abuse of Wei Wuxian would both be encouraged and only pretended to be looked down upon. Everyone was jealous of the Jiang Sect for having Wei Wuxian as a part of their ranks, the story even goes on to say that Jin Guangshan tried to lure him with treasures and women, so I can imagine that people would try and schmooze Wei Wuxian by talking about Madam Yu's treatment of him, but only in the scenario that they can get him in private- can't get caught talking down about the mother of a great sect leader to the son of a servant. There would also be people who would say that Wei Wuxian deserves to be treated that way because of his cultivation and because he is a servant's child. Madam Yu could probably even bring up how- she believes- Wei Wuxian owes the Jiang a debt, so she can treat him any way she desires until he pays it off- which, also, in her head, he never will as she believes he owes them his life. The only person who would be against it would be Lan Wangji, but it isn't as if he has any power to go up against Madam Yu; the only thing he could most likely do would be to ask Wei WUxian to come back to Gusu with him, and we know how that is going to end.

There is a possibility that Madam Yu would try and have Jiang Cheng expel Wei Wuxian from the sect before he runs into Wen Qing and saves the remnants from the camps because she sees him as a threat to the sect's reputation/Jiang Cheng. It's really hard to determine this because Madam Yu does not like giving up power, and Wei Wuxian is a powerhouse, but she also hates that Wei Wuxian is better than her son in everything. So her decision in this would be affected by outside factors/the other sects.

I also believe, however, that Jin Guangshan is smart enough to get Madam Yu to do the above and make Wei Wuxian vulnerable early on. He also has the added help of his wife and her unending quest to marry their son and Jiang Yanli. I can imagine Madam Jin painting Wei Wuxian as a danger to Yanli to her best friend, adding fuel to the fire.

I believe that the rest of the story would go as normal, except that Jiang Cheng doesn't get to have Zidian, and I can see Madam Yu trying to get people to siege the Burial Mounds earlier than they did in the canon timeline. She would probably be lobbying for a siege the week after Jiang Cheng's and Wei Wuxian's fight just because her darling heir got his non-dominant arm broken.

When Wei Wuxian resurrects, if Jin Guangyao hasn't had her killed, I can see Madam Yu being an extra obstacle in Wei Wuxian's and Lan Wangji's quest. I can see her whipping Wei Wuxian in Qinghe after Wei Wuxian saves Jin Ling from the man-eating castle, and I can see her kicking up a fuss in Lotus Pier after the second siege of the Burial Mounds.
