If the words "Brian Eno cover" and "pedal steel" don't get your heart racing, well, I don't know what to tell you. I believe I was introduced to this one via Jesse Jarnow's Frow Show on WFMU a few months back — and it does not disappoint in the slightest. Modern Nature member Jim Wallis and steel maestro Henry Senior tackle "Discreet Music" expertly here, overlapping overtones, deep listening textures, gently unspooling melodies. Like the original, it's a thing of quiet beauty. And like the original, you could just put it on a neverending loop and bliss out for the day.

Jim Wallis is an anti-racist Protestant theologian. He thinks that Trump's Bible grift is just one of the Orange One's religious issues.

Donald Trump has gone from using the Bible as a prop to turning our Holy Scriptures into a commodity. Words no longer suffice for the things he says and does with the most common word for his personal, political, and presidential behavior being unprecedented. But I have some better words—religious words. I and many other faith leaders are willing to accuse Donald Trump of two more things. The first is idolatry—false worship. The White Christian Nationalism that Trump proclaims, directly names the problem. First, the most inclusive and welcoming message of the gospel of Jesus Christ is made white by the marketer-in-chief of racial grievance. Second, the word Christian is distorted beyond recognition. Service, sacrifice, and love are replaced with control and domination with Trump’s religious disciples unapologetically aiming for control in their “Seven Mountain Strategy”—with right-wing Christians ruling government, business, media, education, family, arts/entertainment, and, of course, religion. And in direct contradiction to Jesus' instruction to his followers to make disciples in every nation, Trump’s faith will be nationalism, not just positively loving your own country, but asserting the power of one nation over others. [ ... ] The second word is heresy, which means drawing Christians and others away from Christ. Donald Trump and his MAGA movement deny the truest and deepest teaching of Jesus in places like his Sermon on the Mount. Trump’s worship of wealth and utter disregard for the poorest and most vulnerable brings the judgment of Jesus in Matthew’s gospel Chapter 25, “As you have done to the least of these you have done to me.” And the life of lies that Donald Trump has led and deliberately spread to the damage of our nation completely contradicts Jesus’ words in the Gospel of John: “You will know the truth and the truth will make you free.”

To invoke God, Mr. Trump, in the making and selling of your Bible is a very dangerous thing—not only for the soul of the nation but also for yours. You once said that you never have felt the need to ask God for forgiveness in your life. You might want to reconsider that now.

Kid heroes are so common these days that it seems like you can't take more than a few steps without tripping over one. Feels like every other week some teenager is finding alien technology in a junkyard or inheriting supernatural weapons from their great-granddad, then immediately going out to fight bad guys. It usually turns out for the best 'cause us capes look out for each other.

But it wasn't always this way. There was a time when putting on a mask to save the day was an adult's game. The rules were different then. You stuck to your own territory, kept your identity a secret from even your loved ones, and you never involved kids.

'Course that all changed over time. Sometimes one of your rogues would decide to try their luck in another town, and you'd follow 'cuz they were your responsibility. And if the city they hit next had a local hero, the smart thing to do was to work with the guy who's familiar with the territory. That's how the first superhero team-ups happened, or so I've been told.

I don't remember who the first sidekick was. Some say it was Robin, others will tell ya it was Speedy. Doesn't really matter, that first batch of them all sprang up around the same time. It was probably bound to happen, s'not like metahuman genes or lab accidents wait until you're eighteen to spring powers on ya.

Still, we weren't about to let the rugrats run wild on their own. Especially if they had powers that were new to them. So fellas like the Flash and Aquaman who had kids with the same powers as them began to train them. I think it was supposed to be like an apprentice thing, but most of the time the heroes acted like they were parents, not just teachers. And back in those days, you didn't tell someone else how to raise their kid.

Unless you were crazy ol' Hal Jordan.

Now, being a Green Lantern, Hal was already different from most heroes. His apartment might've been in Coast City, but he was the lawman for the entirety of Sector 2814. All of Earth was just a part of his beat. So where other heroes might hesitate to take charge on someone else's territory, Hal would always barge right in. That's just the kind of guy he was.

And once he became friends with other heroes like Green Arrow or the Flash, Hal was the cool uncle to the kids. Probably because he always treated them like they were heroes in their own right, not just tagalongs of their mentors. Like this one time, Kid Flash got his speed stolen somehow, so Hal just gave him a power ring and made him a deputy GL for the day!

Those kids, they grew up of course. Went from being the sidekicks to having sidekicks of their own, some of 'em. I reckon that they would've done things differently anyway, having been on the other side themselves once upon a time. But I also know that a lot of the heroes from the Titans generation appreciated the independence and trust that Hal showed them despite not being their mentor, and they followed in his footsteps.

Here are my headcanons for if the welcome home characters joined the muppets when the muppet show started since welcome home was taken off of platforms!

In the mid-70s, when The Muppet Show was being made, the company that owned welcome home decided to make a deal with Jim Henson to where he gets to own the characters and officially use them in any muppet related stuff because of the downfall of welcome. Jim Henson accepted the offer and got the rights to the welcome Home series.

Jim updated all the welcome home puppets a little (just small tweaks and some updated outifts.) to make them look newer and better quality.

They then were added into The Muppet Show, and the characters appear in the theme songs and multiple episodes.

They added some skits for the characters (example: Eddie trying to deliver mail, but all the muppet dogs chase him away).

Most of the Welcome Wome characters acted the same as they did in Welcome Home except for Wally. Wally was made to be a little less childish (he still acted childish at times), and he flirted with some of the women on the show and liked getting kisses from them.

The WH characters acted a little more mature than they did in the show and would make a few adult jokes.

They would appear in:

Background cameos in the 1979 muppet movie.

The great muppet caper (as happiness hotel workers)

Some other muppet movies (as background characters or they get small lines)

Muppets (2011) (with small talking lines and in the Muppet Telethon scene) (Howdy would be a part of the barbershop quartet in the barbershop scene)

Muppets Most wanted (Wally would get a few lines, and the others would get background appearances)

The Jim Henson Hour (They would be in some of the skits or in the background)

Muppets Tonight (Wally would appear in the Paula Abdul episode where he would get a kiss from her, and Clifford would get angry at Wally)

Muppets 2015 series (All the WH characters would be in it and get a good amount of screen time)

Muppets Mayhem (Eddie and Sally would get a small appearance in an episode)

Welcome Home would have reruns every year on its birthday month on the Disney Channel.
