Jessamy is absolutely swimming in these Pleasant Company era clothes. It's like she borrowed her big sister's snowpants and coat!

Jessamy in The Sandman
Before I dive in too far - a quick run down of Jessamy in both the comics and the Netflix show (think of it as a refresher).
Comics Jessamy appears only for a short time in Issue #29 "Thermidor" where Dream asks assistance from Lady Constantine during the 1700s in a task. If you haven't read the comics I won't spoil you for the task request. She retires from Dream's service and joins several other of Dream's previous ravens in Eve's cave. She does appear in The Dreaming comics that are a direct spin-off of The Sandman as well, but overall isn't a large part of Dream's story.
Show Jessamy is only in Episode 1, "Sleep of the Just". She accompanies Dream into the Waking World when he is summoned and imprisoned. She proceeds to hang around for years before dying in a clever attempt to help free Dream from Burgess's basement. We see her death on screen, and her echoes are felt throughout the entire first season.

In short, Jessamy's place in the story shifted quite a bit for the Netflix adaptation.
There are plenty of theories on why and arguments on whether or not her use in the show consitutes a plothole, but I am just here to say that while I hated to see her go I thought her time on screen was much more effective than her time on the page. I had to search for where she had shown up in the comics, but I couldn't forget her on screen. To be fair, a part of that now is just the difference between the amount of material we have available on screen versus in the comics, but even once we have more episodes I think that will remain true.
She's sweet in the comics, but without speaking a word she mastered capturing hearts on screen. I do want to emphasize that while her death acts as a shock and reveals emotions in Dream for the first time on screen I do not think she was used just as a sacrificial character. The show leans heavily on the fact that "Dream of the Endless always has a Raven." and Jessamy is the first the audience sees. She establishes the status quo going forward for these ravens. Without her loyalty, perseverance, and determination I don't think the actions of later ravens (*cough* Matthew *cough*) would have the same impact. Jessamy is what Matthew must live up to - she left a big beak to fill not only for Matthew but also Dream's other subjects.
Also, the episodic element of comics may translate well to episodes of a show, but a show tends adhere to linearity a tad more than written stories must. Having a more sequential set-up for Dream's ravens will assist in allowing the audience to track the sequence of events - especially if we get as many different glimpses of the past in future episodes as I expect.
I'm guessing there are even more reasons for the change from comic to screen for Jessamy and her place in The Sandman's greater story, but again - I found the choices they made on screen powerful and evocative for Jessamy as a character. I had nothing against her before, but the show has entrenched a staunch love for her in my Sandman heart.
(One of my favorite articles on Matthew and Jessamy from Screenrant)

Many fans of the new Sandman Netflix series have mistakenly thought Jessamy to be a magpie and that Morpheus just calls her a raven. Actually the bird they chose for her is a pied crow, which is classified as a small raven.

Sandtober Days 1 & 2: Dream and Nightmare
(and technically 29: Sphere as well I suppose :'D)
This one kind of got away from me a bit, as my original intent wasn't to draw anything remotely sad or angsty for Day 1, but then I stumbled upon a certain reference picture and... well, here we are.
Also, fun fact, while I didn't choose them for their names, the two palettes I used were called "Anxiety" and "Mild Melancholy" :')

Here’s some Sandman art.
I have two here because the first one is quite a bit loud, so the other is there to clarify the foreground, if that makes sense.
Poor Jessamy.

An Inn and the World's End
~ A Winter Tale ~
Summary: An Inn stands bright and warm in a world of snow and ice and twilight. The Innkeeper is no hero but when Death comes calling, he takes what any hero does - a guide, a companion and a magical weapon - and takes up the task to find the Nightking at the edge of the world.
Rating: T
CW: none
Length: 8.9k
~~~ ~~~ ~~~
A curious stillness lies over the Inn. The sounds of howling storms and wolves have fallen quiet. The crackling of snow and ice, part of nature's symphony, are absent.
Hob stands at the counter, swiping off the last few glasses and mugs.
Sometimes feels as if there's never anything else he's doing. He sighs as he puts them into their cupboards and shelves and slings the damp dishrag over his shoulder. The Inn is empty of patrons this far into the night, except for one snoring gentleman by the fire. The glow of the fireplace throws the shadows into sharp flickering relief. The lamplight above the bar cradles the Inn like a warm blanket.
Outside, Hob knows, there's nothing but twilit darkness and the cold. It's always been like that, as far as Hob remembers. So it catches him by surprise sometimes, this yearning for warmth and light, when he has never experienced much of either.
This is a world of snow and storms and wolves, after all.
So why is it still?
Hob's Inn, beyond the muted sounds of the world outside that lose some of their horror as soon as the thick door closes behind any traveler, is made of crackling fire, creaking wood and clinking earthenware. Above that lies the susurration of voices and stories and songs, all bathed in the golden lights of the many lamps Hob never fails to light.
The folk that comes by and tracks puddles of melting snow and despair across his wooden floors, tell him stories of the world outside. They tell him of empty landscapes and abandoned dwellings, of the hunger and the wolves that roam free. Some like Gilbert, an old and long since vanished patron, tell other stories; those tales speak of the Nightking that once was Lord and protector of these lands and who vanished in times before memory. Others whisper tall tales of beasts and monsters that were set free by a cruel and dispassionate King; horrors that rose in the wake of uncaring abandonment.
Hob dislikes these latter stories despite the frequency with which they come up. He knows - knows it in the marrow of his bones as surely as he knows he must keep the lights on in the Inn - that they are untrue, that the lands aren't frozen and uninhabitable due to cruelty.
Still, he serves all folk; he's just the Innkeeper after all, always here, always waiting.
He's not exactly sure what he's waiting for, though. Mabe just the next stranger that comes through the door.
Guys, I am melting. Earlier I had to replace the latch on one of our sheds because I'm the handy one in the family and just standing there rotating a screwdriver for ten minutes left me thoroughly overheated. So the Island Vacation Outfit seemed like a good fit for Jessamy this weekend.
Jessamy, Forgemaster of Leyndell
Background: Jessamy was born to a long line of bladesmiths, shortly after the celebrated marriage of Marika and Radagon. Her lineage had been in Leyndell since its founding, making weaponry and armor for its soldiers.
Eventually Jessamy followed in her family’s trade, and had a knack for the forges at a young age. Appreciating the craft’s work and love put into blade smithing, eventually Jessamy easily rose to the rank of Forgemaster. While at first thrilled, she realized over time that she preferred different acts of creation to tools of violence. Jessamy began to craft jewelry, instruments, arches for building.
She soon began to craft great works, including beautiful jewels and gems, sculpt statuary, and moved beyond her original station. Radagon took notice of her work, and eventually commissioned her. Thus she was embroiled in Leyndell’s royal family; she taught Radagon smithing, created ceremonial weapons, sculpted gems and fantastical instruments for the demigods.
For a time she was happy, able to continue her work and keep at her trade with both the freedom she desired and the creativity she was allowed.
And then came the Night of the Black Knives. And soon after, the Shattering.
There was no time to grieve, and Leyndell was in chaos. Radagon begged her to reforge the Elden Ring.
She tried. The metal burned her hands so badly that she was unable to do anymore. She tried to direct Radagon in its repairs, but even that failed. She took her hammer and fled the capital, her faith in the order deeply shaken.
Now she travels, trying to rediscover her purpose. Trying to find love in smithing again.
Appearance: Thick brown hair that she was very proud of, though usually tied back in the forges. After the Shattering, she cut it short for ease of travel, and so there are less those who recognize her. She has heterochromia iridium, one eye being blue and one being brown, and have an almost sleepy look. Her hands are marked with angry red burns, permanently scarred.
Personality: Quiet and contemplative, but easy to share a smile. She finds peace in her work, and is pleased by simple experiences. Definition of ‘tortured artist’, smithing is often her self-soothing method when anxious or despairing.
