Cars walking into a haunted house Pt. 1

Inspired by: @rollingwheels (check them out!)

Okay- So, I know it's not a spooky month but it is to me! And I'm gonna show you, how the WGP, Cars 3 and 1 are gonna react when they are walking in a haunted house.

Montgomery "Lightning" McQueen - Okay, So Lightning is first so what he does is that he has this cocky attitude and goes inside the haunted house but deep down inside, he's actually scared (Reference to Cars on the Road) and if there happened to be a killer clown in there Oof- Say goodbye to your hearing- Cause he's gonna scream really loud (like really loud). ☠️

Tow Mater - Oh, Uh- You can figure that out...

Jeff Gorvette - Oh he'll stand there like a statue! And he moves slowly and quietly and he doesn't want any one popping up in front of his face. He'll throw tires/hands if he gets jumpscared.

Lewis Hamilton - Just starts walking as he tries not to get jumped scared by an actor or anything.

Vitaly Petrov - He may be Russian, Tough, and strong, but- Ha! Your wrong! He's gonna make solids in his pants and he'll have to clean them when he gets home- lol!

Miguel Camino - Yeah, he's Sprinter and people are gonna be able to scare him because he's like a blur. (Because he's the runner and runs from bulls in Spain-)

Carla Veloso - Oh Yeah- She'll have some sass when she walks into the house, nothing won't scare her because she's braver than the boys! (Girl power!)

Francesco Bernoulli - He may act brave, but no, if he was teamed up Raoul or anyone else he's gonna latch onto them starts shaking and chattering his teeth with wide terrified eyes.

Shu Todoroki - He is dead silent he'll be quiet as a mouse and actors won't know he's there- But if he squeaks or squeals then it's game over for him.

Max Schnell - Oh- He'll have his hands in his pockets and walk down the hallway without feeling scared, that dude's tough as a rock- And if an actor startles him or attempts to- He'll just move away quickly but just just shrug it off.

Raoul ÇaRoul - Oh boy- That dude would have a panic attack- If anything or anyone pops up in front of him- He'll jump and scream at the same time, he'll fall on his butt and start scooting away clenching onto his chest and starts Hyperventilating and he'll have an anxiety or panic attack while Hyperventilating, but his boyfriend Rip Clutchgoneski would help him out.

Rip Clutchgoneski - Oh, Well he'll be scared at first but he'll get used to it when he realizes it's not that scary, but if he gets scared or startled he'll let out a little squeak or yelp. But he'll continue. (Just to be clear Rip will be a nervous little boy- but he'll make it out without feeling scared. 😋)

Nigel Gearsly - Easy- He'll run like hell and get scared every time when he runs into an actor-

I watched the finale on Friday and immediately went to a wedding so I didn’t have time to process and now that I have free time and I see all the tweets and tiktoks I’m in so much pain, like it physically hurts me to think about the fact that Nat is dead?? And Misty killed her?? And she died the same day her childhood best friend died?? And I won’t see her in season 3?? Nat was my favourite character since season 1 and it just sucks and the way she died kills me; but at the same time I really hope none of them get a happy ending, I’m a sucker for tragedy and characters that have no chance for happiness (I like to feel pain okay)

I know that we still have the teen timeline and that’s fantastic, but I just vibe more with the adults ://

Also if I demand a Natalie mention at least every other episode (in the at) and they better show me Lottie because she’s my 2nd favourite adult so I want to see her, idc if it’s in the psych ward or there’s a time jump and she’s out O just wanna see my girl okay

Summary: Leo has the biggest crush on you, but he's afraid that you'd never date a mutant, so with the help of a cloaking brooch, he plans to become your perfect human boyfriend!

Okay I have to be honest. I saw someone with this idea, but I have no clue where it came from originally. If you know who I should credit, please tell me!!

Anyways, this concept gave me way too many ideas hope you enjoy.

Leo wasn't great at dealing with his feelings.

He'd been crushing on Y/N for far too long, the terrapin couldn't even remember when the whole thing started.

A few loving glances and a flirty joke or two had suddenly burst into the thought of Y/N keeping him up at night. He wasn't great at hiding it either, blushing like an idiot when they smiled his way.

Leo knew he needed to tell them sooner or later, but he hadn't worked up the courage yet. A part of him hoped they secretly felt the same way and would confess to him, but there'd been no sign of that happening anytime soon. Leo wanted to confess, he really did, but... what if they didn't feel the same way? What if it made their friendship weird? What if he looked like an idiot? What if they never wanted to speak to him again?!

There were just too many 'what ifs' for his liking.

So Leo had decided to take the easy way out, hoping that Y/N would just see how great he was, then he wouldn't have to deal with any uncomfortable conversations. He started going out of his way to impress them, saving them on missions, being overly nice, letting them win in video games, giving them his last pizza slice, (which is very valuable by the way!)

Not that he'd ever admit it, but Leo had spent an embarrassingly long time researching 'how to get your crush to like you back'.

He'd bought a cologne for Pete's sake! But no matter what he did, they never seemed to notice.

It was a ordinary evening. Leo and the others sat in the projector room watching a movie. Raph, Mikey and Y/N were sitting comfortably on the floor surrounded by blankets and pillows. Meanwhile, Donnie and Leo took the couch, popcorn in their hands. They were watching some random action movie. Leo wasn't really paying attention.

He was more focused on Y/N.

Y/N had started fawning over the male love interest and that began to spark a little- scratch that, a LOT of jealously in Leo's heart. Every scene that guy appeared in they were freaking out, gushing over him like he was the best thing since sliced bread.

The blue-masked turtle scoffed to himself as the character appeared again, narrowing his eyes at the screen.

What was so great about this guy anyway?

Leo was twice as charming as him, he was the one with good looks, great one-liners and clearly the best ninja skills. This guy barely spoke a word and Y/N was blushing like crazy. But as he kept watching the film, something clicked in his mind.

He was human.

That's something Leo could never beat. Sure, 'biologically' he was part human, but he didn't exactly look like it. The turtle shifted a little in his seat, the uncomfortable feeling of insecurity settling in.

"Leo? Are you good?" Donnie asked, snapping him out of his thoughts for a moment.

"Me? Yeah, I'm great," Leo replied quickly, glancing away from his brother's gaze,

"It's just that this movie sucks, never letting Raph choose again!" He lied, that playful smirk returning to his face as he saw his eldest brother's reaction.

"Hey!" Raph called out from afar.

As the movie continued, Leo sighed deeply and took another handful of popcorn, chewing the kernels absentmindedly and leaning back in his seat. Was that really why Y/N wasn't interested in him? Because he wasn't human? There wasn't much he could do about that, it's not like there was just some magic spell that could-

Leo's face lit up as an idea popped into his mind, cloaking brooches. Yokai used them, April's slime friend had one, so they must be easy to find. Leo's mind started spinning with possibilities. If he could get his hands on a cloaking brooch, he could be human and finally get Y/N's attention! But, where would he get one?

For once, Leo was distracted as Y/N entered his room. Usually he'd be all over them chatting up a storm, but he was sitting on his bed glancing away from them.

"Leo?" They asked softly, watching as the turtle was startled by the interruption.

"Hey, what's with the jump scares?" Leo joked with a playful chuckle,

"I thought we were friends." He said in mock offense, leaning onto his back and over-dramatically draping his hand over himself.

Y/N couldn't help but laugh at his shenanigans, "I just came to check on you drama queen, you're being weirdly quiet today."

Leo blinked at their observation. Jeeze, was he that obvious?

"Ohh well you know, I was just thinking about Raphs' riveting movie choice tonight." He replied casually, quick to make up an excuse.

I mean, technically, it wasn't a lie he had been thinking about the film.

Y/N rolled their eyes at that, "You're just salty it wasn't your choice tonight, besides that movie wasn't so bad." They replied, calmly leaning against the door frame.

"Ooh really? You're just saying that because you were all over the male lead," He retorted, grinning smugly as he watched their cheeks flush, "You, my friend, are biased."

"Well- Can you blame me? That guy was a total stud." Y/N blurted out defensively.

"He was alright, I guess. Just totally not as hot as the real stud in the room." He said with a cocky smirk as he gestured towards himself.

Y/N let out a laugh at that.

Normally, Leo wouldn't take such a tiny thing to heart, but his ego took a hit from the way Y/N laughed at him. He was the type to eagerly take any opporunity to see them smile, but this time it felt like they were laughing at him. Scoffing at just the thought of him being attractive to them, it was this newfound level of insecurity that he didn't know how to handle.

"Alright Leo, seems like you're biased too." They said with a chuckle.

"I simply speak the truth." He shrugged in reply, trying to ignore the painful realization.

Thankfully, Y/N didn't seem to notice, "Well, I'm heading home. I'll see you around."

"I'll see you." Leo smiled, waving as he watched them go.

After the coast was clear, Leo let out a long annoyed sign. He leaned onto his back, letting the soft cushion of his bed comfort him as insecurities began to plague his mind.

He needed a cloaking brooch.

"Would you slow down?!?"

You didn't wait up for Eddie to open the passenger seat door as you went down and you saw Nancy's figure from afar already looking at the woods calling Fred's name

Gareth, Jeff, Lewis and Chrissy shared same the looks as they start speed walking to follow you

You sprint your way up to Nancy until Eddie snatched your whole body away from the road when you heard the tires screeching next to you, Steve almost run you down that made you and Eddie fell down on the ground

"Oh my fucking god, are you two alright?" Steve exclaims as he gets out of his car and the rest as well

"Yeah, man, I'm good, Y/N-" Eddie grunts and you swore to himself that he heard you whimpered slightly when he carefully moves your legs aside but you still force yourself up to stand

When you get up you almost fall back down again but Steve catches you by the arms

"What's the rush?" Steve already had an idea that you're the mystery girl that Dustin and Max just told him earlier at the car

"I seriously really have no idea too" Eddie dusts himself off and both men saw the fear in your eyes

You tried to get away from Steve but he holds you in place, you called out to Nancy where she followed your voice and finally saw you and everyone

"Y/N, you're limping" Eddie inspects your leg, he figured out that you might have a bruise from the impact that just happened

"Steve, let me go" you keep looking at him back and forth with those eyes that he couldn't quite place what are you afraid of

He shoots his eyes back to the woods and to you

He only just met you but you speak his name filled with so much familiarity

It's like you already knew him before

Steve briefly nods and he does let you go and you scurried away as Eddie runs behind you

"Dude!" Eddie exclaims as he holds his hands up

"Come on" Steve muttered under his breath as they all followed you

"Nancy!"

She looked at you in confusion and the people behind your shoulder

"Who are you-"

"Where is Fred?"

"What"

"Where is Fred Benson?!?"

"I-I don't know- I told him to wait for me in the car and the next thing I know he's not there anymore- he could be in the woods?"

Your eyes are now watery, she saw the worried look on them as you brush past her

"What is going on? W-What are you guys doing here?"

Everyone ignored Nancy's questions as she also went inside of the woods too

"Y/N! you're moving too fast!" Eddie shouts as he tries to keep up with you

You loudly gasp, "O-Oh my god" you almost tripped in the branches as you come closer to him

It's happening, you could hear his breathing rapidly fast, his eyes are went extremely white with blue-ish hues on them like Chrissy's

Nancy cupped her mouth in shock when his friend's body begin to float, you frantically looked inside your bag and they all saw a wired earphones as you plug it on the device that Eddie, Dustin, Chrissy and Max just saw recently

"That's exactly like-" Eddie pants besides everyone

"What happened to me" Chrissy takes a sharp breath

Steve, Robin, Dustin, Max, Nancy, Gareth, Jeff and Lewis whipped their heads at what they just heard

"Nancy"

"Y-Yes?"

"Do you know his favorite song?"

"Answer me! Nancy or else we can't save him!"

"It's the only way we can save your friend, Nancy, you gotta think" Chrissy went in front of her

This is all too much to bear, it's all coming to fast, she closes her eyes as she remembers one time, she catches a glimpse of Fred's cassette tapes when they're writing a school paper together

When Nancy yells the song to you, you placed the wired earphones to him as you wished that you could still save him

You wished that there's still more time, you know there might be 1% chance when he's already levitating above the air

"Fred! I know you can hear me, it's not your fault that you and your classmate got into an car accident, it was never your fault, it was an accident" you say as you look up to him hoping that you can also save him like you did to Chrissy

"What is she talking about?" Nancy furrowed her brows

"She's from the future" Eddie answered as he kept his eyes on you

"I think it's true, Nance, Dustin told me that she saved Chrissy's life" Steve replies as he puts his hands over his hips as he pulls his brows together

Fred went back down on the ground as you catch him before he knock himself over

"Don't Dream It's Over" is still playing as he looked scarily everywhere in the woods thinking he might be still in the other dimension

Chrissy wipes her tear with a shaky hand, Gareth saw it as he darts his eyes back to her and to Fred

"Fred, Fred, you're here, you're safe now" you held him by the shoulders

The moment he felt your warmth beneath your touch, he knew that you're real that he's not in the other side of the world anymore as he throw his arms around you

He starts crying as you rubbed his back, you sadly smile that you saved someone again as you exhaled deeply

You finally meet Eddie's eyes that brings you so much comfort

Lucas took a deep breath through his nose, he knows that there's a hidden bike in there he could use it for his plan to getaway from Jason

He knows this won't be easy, he is scared for Christ sakes but he is much more terrified of what he might do to his friends

And that alone.....he won't be able to forgive himself, so, while there's still time he won't let Jason do this

"Isn't this creepy to you?" You point to yourself and to him

"Of what? we're having an conversation?"

"No, it's me that I just spawned out of nowhere and I-I think I'm not used to all of this yet- it's surreal to me"

Steve analyses your expression, your movements and your face

You can't just pretend that you just met Steve Harrington and my god, the articles that you read about him are undeniably true

His looks, his face, the way that he talks and his infamous luscious glorious hair

Steve Harrington that you met in the convention for your report for school about the history of Hawkins, if you compare to this and now, it's making you want to hurl and die

He has that sparkle in his eyes, you can't see that anymore, the lively joy on it

And now, since you're from the future, you are dreading the idea that he'll lose them very soon

He isn't like this when you met him, it isn't because he's middle aged, sure, he is still willingly to tell people about the truth in Hawkins like Dustin did with his book

Steve is amused to this natural bickering as if he didn't almost run you over with his car an hour ago

You let out a breathy laugh, "Right, okay, Steve, your charm may work on other girls but not to me" you brush past away from him as he chuckles

"You may deny it but my charming nature will not be diminished by your words" he says with a deep voice that made you almost spit out the lemonade in your mouth

"I want the Steve back that gave me a glass of lemonade" you giggle as you gesture to him to get back

"The royal one?" Of course, he knows that you're aware of his reputation but he wants to know of what you think of him

"No, the Steve that acknowledged his mistakes, holds himself accountable for it, makes up for it, everyone thought you're mean but that's just all an act that you show at school turns out that he's got a big heart full of love and very caring, if they give him a chance, not only that he become a much better person ever"

Steve slowly opens his mouth and is completely awestruck of the words that you just said to him

You smile at him as you place your hand over his shoulder as you give him a reassuring pat

"You have no idea how much everyone adored you in my time" you show a bit of a sadly smile at him but in your eyes it shows how much you appreciate him

"Y/N!" Max pulled you with her as you mouthed "I'll talk to you later!"

Robin saw his amazement face as she follows his friend's gaze as she came into his side as she sips her own drink, his eyes never left you, "Oh, boy, what's gotten into you?"

"Music, what about music? Does future have good ones?" Gareth leans forward from his seat as he waits for your answer

"Well....." You try to appear positive about it but it turns out the exact opposite because the way Lewis notice your face scrunched up in the question

"That doesn't sound good" Jeff says as he looks at Eddie who is looking at you in curiosity

"Okay, okay, future has 50/50 of it, but in my case? I'd still choose the classics anytime and all the time"

"Why?" Fred asks as he adjust his glasses back in

"Because the music in my time doesn't feel the same anymore like it doesn't hit like it usually does" you explain it as you watch them all nod to your answer

"Movies?" You heard Steve's question before you can look beside you as you felt the couch dip when he sat himself in

"Oh, it's like the same thing with music too, it's 50/50"

"Really? Why is that?" Robin crossed both of her arms as she tilts her head at you in question

"Is it just me or nothing is good that ever comes out in the future?" Dustin says as he fixes his cap in the mirror as he looks at you in the reflection

You chuckle in amusement, "Not really, not all of them are bad, what I mean is that in music what I don't like it loses its value, the reason why we enjoy listening to music it's because we feel it, right?"

You watch them one by one agree to your words as you continue

"Right now, you could still feel that is made with love and passion but in my time? only a few of them has it and it doesn't have a soul anymore, they just make up nonsense and then release it" you eye roll to the battle that you have against at every fandom you've been in

"And movies?" Max brings herself closer to you as she listens carefully

"They're more into CGI and not appreciating good acting unlike the movies before"

"CGI?" Gareth repeats your words in confusion as you saw all of their faces mirrored the exact same thing with him

You clear your throat when you realized you're getting way too ahead of yourself, "If you watch Star Wars, Alien, The Exorcist and Jaws, all of them have movie magic right? well, guess what, In my time? it's much more high-tech and more realistic than we have today but some of them are taking the advantage of using it frequently rather than using it lightly"

You get the response a lot of "ahhh's" and you just chuckled to yourself, it's like you're having a business meeting

"Don't get me wrong, I like seeing special effects in movies, I mean, they're cool but pouring them all too much in a film is tiring and again missing the point of what's the story is all about" you shrug as you rest your back in the couch and leaned down

"What about the society?" Eddie asks as he comes forward, all eyes are on him as everyone waits for him to elaborate

"Like social issues?"

He nods, "Yeah, tell us about that"

You breathe through your nose, "That's kind of a big question but okay, I'll try my best to answer"

After another segment of genuine reactions to everyone, you're not going to lie, you are fond witnessing it, if you live in the past, you would ask the same

Who doesn't want or wish the future to become more better than before?

"I'm not saying that my year is better but I'm glad everything is lessen and much more free than before" you say as they all nod in understanding on what you mean by that

"There is still hatred that is happening but a lot more people are not afraid anymore to speak up and stand up for what is right" you add as you saw Robin twiddling with her thumbs as you already felt what she wanted to ask

Eddie can see that you're trying not to break in front of them and he feels bad and also pissed off? that's new to him, he doesn't even know your folks personally but can't help but feel sorry for you

you sniffle and let out a nervous chuckle, "Oops, my bad, if I went too serious-"

"It's alright" Fred smiles sympathetically at you and give back the same gesture to him

The voice from the reporter drowned out from your hearing as it became all blurry and your vision starts to unclear to you as you feel like something else has sucked into your soul, a punch to your gut, a slap into your face and you thought you're getting good at this

All of the voices from your new found friends are also overlapping as your mind wanders to something that you simply wanted to avoid

The tragic ending for him

Him, the person that you defended all your life even like your life depends on it

You care about him so much that it destroys you and you don't want to take over the toll of your mentality again

You drop your glass onto the floor making a breaking sound causing everyone to stop talking to each other as they all looked at you

You gasped as you looked at Steve with a pounding heart, "Steve- I'm s-sorry" you stuttered

"It's okay, Y/N" he says as he finds his broom to sweep the broken pieces of glass on the floor, he moves you aside to keep you away from the dangerous shards on the ground

Eddie saw your state like you're in the verge of tears as he walks closer to you and held your forearm

Lucas was fighting for his breath as he cycling his way out of them, he's panting as his chest hurts as it lacks for air to ease out but he can't stop now or else he is going to end up with a blow to his face

He doesn't know where he's friends are, he must find the nearest payphone, he needs to contact them as soon as possible

He just can't believe that Jason will do such a thing, he is now regretting leaving his friends behind, he is ready to explain everything to them

He doesn't even care at this point if they don't understand him but at least he has got to say his piece

He knows that Eddie and Jason are two different people with different interest and social cliques

Eddie can be a lot of things but Jason? spreading lies without proof is clearly inhumane thing to do and it's insane

It's every fiber of his being the urge to stop him but what can he do? when he might end up in a freaking ditch? so, the only option is to lie to them

"H-Hello?" He says with a strained voice as he tries to clears his throat, he looks at the side to see if Jason's car is approaching he is bopping his knee up and down in nervousness

"Sinclair? Dude, you sound awful-" Steve answers and picks up the phone and Lucas can already the worried look on his face as he can sense the concern at the tone of his voice

"is Dustin with you? Give the phone to Dustin, I need to talk to him" he pants and wipes the build up perspiration on his forehead

"Oh, he's right here-" Lucas heard the rustling cord over the receiver and hears his friend's voice muttering the words to Steve "Is that Lucas? Hand me that phone-" "Hey watch it, Henderson"

"Hey, are you going to tell us your spectacular bonding with your varsity friends?"

He huffs, "I'm not going to argue with you, Dustin-"

"Where were you? Have you seen the news-"

"God! Just listen to me!" He exclaims in frustration as Dustin can hear the way Lucas slam his hand at a surface

There's a beat of silence as Dustin squeezes his eyes shut as he begrudgingly, "Fine" he says through gritted teeth

"It's about Jason and I think Eddie's life is in danger"

"Say no more, you have a lot of catch up to do, where are you?"

Jeff Bezos ordered The Washington Post to censor its endorsement of Kamala Harris, the newspaper’s own reporters said Friday.

The billionaire Amazon founder stopped the publication of an endorsement of the Democratic candidate which its editorial board had already written, the paper reported.

The dramatic move was called “cowardice” by its Pulitzer Prize-winning former editor, Marty Baron. One of the paper’s star reporters, Ashley Parker, called it “a new type of October Surprise.”

The paper’s CEO Will Lewis—not its owner, Bezos—announced the endorsement ban in a note to readers, saying it was an attempt to “provide through the newsroom non-partisan news for all Americans, and thought-provoking, reported views from our opinion team to help our readers make up their own minds.”

“We see it as consistent with the values The Post has always stood for and what we hope for in a leader: character and courage in service to the American ethic, veneration for the rule of law, and respect for human freedom in all its aspects.”

It came days after The Los Angeles Times’ editorial board was blocked from endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris by its billionaire CEO Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, plunging the newsroom into chaos over its owner’s meddling in its editorial affairs.

In D.C., Lewis said the paper was “returning to our roots of not endorsing presidential candidates,” citing the paper’s distant past, which it abstained from presidential endorsements.

But that era ended in 1976 when it endorsed Democrat Jimmy Carter for president, which Lewis said was for “understandable reasons.” “But we had it right before that, and this is what we are going back to,” Lewis wrote. (The Post last abstained from endorsing a presidential candidate in 1988, saying at the time it could not reach “a threshold of confidence in and commitment” in a candidate that year.)

“This is cowardice, a moment of darkness that will leave democracy as a casualty,” Baron, who shepherded the paper during Donald Trump’s first presidency wrote on X. “Donald Trump will celebrate this as an invitation to further intimidate The Post’s owner, Jeff Bezos (and other media owners). History will mark a disturbing chapter of spinelessness at an institution famed for courage.”

According to NPR, which first broke the news of the Post’s decision, opinion editor David Shipley informed staff on Friday morning about the decision. Opinion among staff, according to NPR, was “uniformly negative.”

“According to our own reporters and Guild members, an endorsement for Harris was already drafted, and the decision to not to publish was made by The Post’s owner, Jeff Bezos. We are already seeing cancellations from once loyal readers. This decision undercuts the work of our members at a time when we should be building our readers’ trust, not losing it.”

Lewis’ nearly yearlong tenure at the Post has been marred by controversy after controversy. Initially welcomed by Post employees as an affable changemaker with ambitions to reinvent the paper, the staff turned on him after he booted the paper’s executive editor, Sally Buzbee, for two former colleagues; reportedly tried to block the paper from reporting on his alleged role in covering up a U.K. phone-hacking scandal; insinuated the paper’s editorial staff was responsible for its business failings; and nearly installed a former U.K. colleague whose ethically questionable reporting practices eventually came to light.

Lewis’ decision came days after Soon-Shiong blocked the Times’ impending endorsement of Harris. Soon-Shiong claimed he allowed the paper to present analyses of the “POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE policies by EACH candidate” to present “clear and non-partisan information to its readers,” but the editorial board refused.

Jeff Bezos is the second-richest person in the world, with a net worth of approximately $211 billion. Most of Bezos' wealth is derived from his 9% stake in Amazon, the company he founded. Bezos also founded and owns Blue Origin, a private space exploration company worth billions.  Bezos also owns the Washington Post, which he purchased in 2013 for $250 million in cash. Is Bezos now making decisions at the Washington Post to protect and enhance the value of his other enterprises? Many current and former employees of the Washington Post believe so.

More importantly, Bezos believes that former President Trump's hostility toward the Washington Post, which produced critical coverage of Trump's presidency, cost his companies billions in government contracts.

The billionaire owner of the LA Times

Patrick Soon-Shiong, the billionaire owner of the LA Times, also abruptly demanded his publication stay neutral in the presidential election. Soon-Shiong bought the paper for $500 million in 2018.  Soon-Shiong is a healthcare and biotech entrepreneur whose companies rely on the federal government. His companies regularly seek FDA approval for new drugs, vaccines and therapies and federal funding for research. 

The editorial board had planned to endorse Kamala Harris and publish a series of columns tentatively titled "The Case Against Trump." But in a post on X, Soon-Shiong said he offered the LA Times editorial board "the opportunity to draft a factual analysis of all the POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE policies by EACH candidate during their tenures at the White House, and how these policies affected the nation." Soon-Shiong said that "[i]nstead of adopting this path as suggested, the Editorial Board chose to remain silent and I accepted their decision."  Soon-Shiong did not explain why he did not demand a similar approach for U.S. House and Senate races, state ballot initiatives, and many other contests facing California voters. Beginning in September, the LA Times has endorsed in dozens of races up and down the ballot.  

In response to the spiking of the presidential endorsement, 200 LA Times staff members signed an open letter calling on Soon-Shiong to "provide readers with an explanation for not issuing an endorsement, along with clarity about the broader endorsement process." Three members of the paper's editorial board have resigned. "I am resigning because I want to make it clear that I am not okay with us being silent," Mariel Garza, the LA Times editorials editor, said. "In dangerous times, honest people need to stand up. This is how I’m standing up."

. Miguel Camino ( the Spanish race car ) is kinda like Camillo from Encanto but except even more sneaky. He loves flamenco dancing and basically sometimes loves a good gossip

. Also Raoul Carroulle and Miguel became boyfriends somewhere near the end of Cars 2 ( like, around when Miles Axelroid got arrested )

. My voice hc for Carla Veloso ( the Brazilian race car ) is Carmen Miranda. Anyway Carla is Fiesty, spirited, loves to party often, and is a Lightning x Sally shipper and a Carroulle x Camino shipper.

. Francesco's parents are both F1 racers. Mama Bernoulli retired sometime after her husband died, and became a racing trainer for Francesco

. Nigel Gearsley is the youngest of those World Grand Prix racers. My voice hc for Nigel is Tom Holland. Basically he is often chatty, loves Star Wars, and LOVES internet memes. And he is also a fan of Queen. Lightning and several other racers came to treat him like a little bro figure

. Shu Todoroki's wife, Kiyomi Yamaguchi, is a light pink Toyota car and famous geisha who performs mainly at a fancy Tokyo geisha dining theatre. By the time Cars 2 rolled around they already have a 3 year old daughter ( who is white and pink like her dad ) named Sakura. Srsly Shu x Kiyomi are kinda like a cars version of Moto x Moe from Kimono Mom in some ways.

. . Kiyomi Yamaguchi is sweet, elegant and ladylike, but definitely not to be trifled with. After her husband got injured in that Porta Corsa race, she flat out mobilized her and Shu's friends back in Japan to have a whole 10 thousand yen law suit on Axelroid over her husband's injuries. And she shows up there to defend her husband in that Miles trial

. Max Schnell ( the German car ) is from Berlin is more of a stoic type, yet he has a gentle soul ( he is more of a gentle giant type if you ask me ). Likes beer, poems, skiing and dancing. Also loves to hit the gymn often

. Lewis Hamilton ( another British car ) is often more collected, loves to DJ and is often seen meditating with some lo fi music on his headphones. He becomes a good friend to Nigel Gearsley

. Jeff Gorvette basically is a Miami surfer dude and is somewhat younger than Lightning. The two met before during the US national races and became good associates over time.

. Rip ( the Scandinavian car from New Rearandia, a ficitonal Nordic island country near Iceland ) is basically kinda like a mix of Kristoff and Hercules in some ways. That guy is basically a big hearted himbo who loves to sing and dance....and has a competitive Streak as well

Summary: It's George's birthday and you decide to give him a very musical gift.

I sat impatiently at the Gryffindor table, eagerly waiting to give my gift to George. A full five months we had been a couple, but I’ve known him much longer than that. I placed two small gift boxes next to me, one purple and the other orange. 

“What did you get?” Ron asked, noticing the bows. 

“Cupcakes!” I beamed. 

“No offence Y/n, but wouldn’t they want something more than a cupcake? Especially since one of them is your boyfriend?” Ron questioned. 

“Oh don’t be silly, this is just the first present!” Surely I’d want to spoil my beloved boyfriend for his birthday, one just isn’t enough. “And don’t worry, the one for George comes with a surprise!”

I know for a good fact that I looked utterly insane with the maniacal smile I had plastered on my face. Soon we heard the loud voices of the Weasley twins enter the Great Hall, dramatically of course. 

“Good morning my fellow citizens!” Fred announced as he approached the Gryffindor table. “Seventeen years ago today, legends were born. And one of those legends was me.”

“Happy birthday Fred,” I greeted, beginning to search for my boyfriend.

“And the much more honoured and attractive legend has arrived!” I heard George from behind me. I looked up to see his tall smiling figure, “Hello, my love.”

“Doesn’t the sun just seem a million times brighter this morning?” He cheered, leaning down to hug me from behind, cuddling me like a stuffed bear. 

“Must be because a cute human was born on this day.” I simpered, then grabbed his face, kissing him on the cheek, “Happy birthday Georgie!” 

“Sooo, what’s in those little boxes you’ve got there Y/n? May it be a little somethin’ somethin’ for your favourite humans?” Fred leaned forward, acting as if he was a shy little girl, politely begging for her gift. 

“Perhaps.” I teased. I slid Fred’s orange box across the table, “Happy birthday Fred!”

“Thank you, kind sir.” He pretended to bow, opening his small treat. 

I then handed George his little purple box. A little note hung from the bow, a heart next to his name. 

“For moi?” He sat next to me, pretending to get emotional.  George opened the small box of the cupcake I had baked him yesterday. 

“My favourite!” George smiled sheepishly, then kissed my forehead. 

“You should try it!” I encouraged him. George then took a bite out of his cupcake and gave a smile at the baked goods. 

“You like it?” I asked him, he nodded like a little child. 

 “It's godly,” George’s face had a sudden look of loss for words.

“What’s wrong?” 

“I don’t know. I suddenly feel like… tingly.”

“Oh?” All I had to do now was sit back and enjoy the show.  

“You didn’t poison me, did you? 

“Nope!” I giggled. “How are you feeling Georgie?”

“Like I want to sing.” In seconds, George stood up from his seat and began to shout.

“Everyone, I have an announcement,” everyone turned to George, wondering what could possibly be happening now. Then he turned to look down at me, “For y/n.”

Suddenly, music was heard and George grabbed his wand, using it as a mic.

“Where the fuck is music coming from?” Fred looked around, confused. George then began to move, dancing you could call it. Fred’s face then lit up with amusement, “Ohoho, this is a good birthday present!”

Soon George began to move, his legs feeling the beat of the song. And soon enough he began to sing…

“Y/n?” George stopped singing for a moment, looking down at me.

“Musical Love Potions.” I simply explained with a grin, “Happy Birthday, my dear!”

George’s face turned from confusion to a grin, complimenting my cleverness, “Oh, you’re evil, Y/l/n.” 

George continued to sing, now dancing on the long table and using his wand as a microphone.

I never thought that it could happen to a guy like me

But now look at what you've done, you got me down on my knees

And with those lyrics, George fell to his knees in front of me. He leaned toward me, holding my face, moving in to quickly kiss me. Only for him to wander away, singing the next lyric. Rude. He seems a lot quicker with his moves than normal.

The rest of the Gryffindor table chanted the lyrics. George continued to sing with a confused look on his face, he seemed to enjoy it. George was never one to dance. When we’d go to parties he’d stand by and watch me enjoy myself. I guess he’d never truly tried until he was forced to.

The whole Gryffindor table seemed to have been under the potion as everyone was dancing and chanting, answering George's song. George then slid across the table and took off his cloak, throwing it at me like a jock throwing his jacket into a crowd. I reached up to catch it, then put his large cloak over mine.

George fell to his knees, sliding across the Gryffindor table like a rockstar, ending his number. I laughed at his performance. 

“MR. WEASLEY!” The attention turned from George to the loud voice of Professor McGonagall, standing at the end of the table stunned, “Please get off the table! As much as that show seemed to have been enjoyed by the students, it’s no longer the Yule Ball.” 

“Sorry professor!” George couldn't wipe the grin off his face as he apologized to McGonagall. He hopped off the table, soon hearing a cheer from the student around him. As always, McGonagall left with a look of tiredness, wondering where our ridiculousness emerged from. George then turned to me, noticing the snarky look I had written on my face. 

“Who knew you could sing?” I smirked, enjoying the sight of George with a post-performer look. His shirt and tie were loose and his hair was a god-blessing mess.  “It was impressive.”

He took a moment to catch his breath. I fixed his tie as he watched me, unable to contain the insanely noticeable smug smirk on his face.

"Magical love potions, what do you think?" I asked as I looked at him, seeing his eyes gleaming with joy. It looked as if George was more blown away by his performance than I was. “What?”

“You know I meant everything I said, or I guess sung.” George grinned. 

“Did you now?” I began to pull him closer by his Gryffindor tie. 

“Of course. Did you not hear the song? ‘I would give up my kingdom for just one kiss’.” He grabbed my waist, pulling us closer than we could be. 

“Really? Prove it.” I simpered. 

“Watch me.” He spoke as he leaned into me, kissing my lips softly. We both smiled through the kiss. I pulled away for a moment to look at George, quickly to tell him, “Thank you, your majesty.”

On the evening of October 12th, the Palestinian American legal scholar and human rights attorney Noura Erakat called into the CBS News Streaming show Prime Time with John Dickerson—which airs nightly on CBS’s website and apps, as well as on Pluto TV and Paramount—for a live interview on the human rights crisis caused by Israel’s bombing of Gaza. According to internal CBS discussions reviewed by Jewish Currents, employees at CBS had prioritized booking Erakat in part because the show had not included any Palestinian guests in its coverage of the region during the previous three days. But while the interview aired live to the network’s thousands of streaming viewers, CBS omitted the footage—in which Erakat sharply criticized the anchor’s framing of Israel’s actions—from the version of the episode published online that night, and declined to post a standalone clip of the interview, as it usually would. According to a schedule reviewed by Jewish Currents, the interview was initially listed in the 7:30 pm slot, between segments on Senator Bob Menendez and Israel/Palestine-related protests across the United States. But while those reports appear in the version of the show available online, Erakat’s remarks do not. Speaking with Jewish Currents, Erakat described her Prime Time interview as “a really tense back-and-forth.” “Rather than just answer questions about how bad things are,” she said, “I talked about media responsibility for perpetuating racist and Islamophobic tropes that have basically fomented war.” When Jeff Glor, the anchor filling in for Dickerson, described Hamas’s October 7th attacks on Israeli civilians as “barbarian,” Erakat asked why the same term wasn’t used to describe actions by Israel, noting that Israeli soldiers shot and killed her cousin three years ago at a checkpoint in the West Bank, and Israel still has not returned his body. the article goes on to talk about numerous other palestinian and muslim commentators, analysts, and journalists who have been sidelines, including yousef munayyer, a palestinian american write and political analyst who was set to appear on CNN's this morning until he told them that he planned to "raise awareness about the mass atrocities" committed by israel; omar baddar, a palestinian american political analyst who was similarly scheduled for a CNN international show until he shared an outline of his planned comments; medhi hasan, ayman mohyeldin, and ali velshi, three MSBNC journalists sidelined from hosting their own shows; and more.

this only contributes to the overall media bias against palestine, one that has been ongoing for decades: historian maha nassar wrote a piece for +972 magazine in 2020 showing that out of the 5,739 op-eds about palestine published in the new york times and the washington post from 1970-2019, only 78 were authored by palestinians - LESS THAN ONE AND A HALF PERCENT. even someone as famous as edward said only had one op-ed published by the new york times throughout the 1990s, during which time thomas friedman wrote 33 articles discussing palestinians, william safire wrote 24, anthony lewis wrong 39, and a.m. rosenthal wrote 56.

I've started reading through Ted Chiang's collection, Stories of Your Life and Others, as a bit of a palatal reset. I'm familiar with this author's work for exactly one reason, but I thought skipping directly to that one would be a bit disrespectful. I'm of the opinion that the order in which an author chooses to present their work in a collection such as this is an important, and not made lightly. It might be thematic, or cleansing, or their might be an underlying structure that's made more clear if taken as a whole.

Or completely random, as Stephen King admits in the Foreward to (if I remember correctly) Everything's Eventual.

Here are my impressions of the first three stories:

"Tower of Babylon"- A retelling of the Tower of Babel with an odd little twist. The Tower has not be struck down and the tongues of men have not been muddled. A team of miners and quarry-men have been brought to the top to dig into the Vault of Heaven from below. I'm reminded a bit of The Last Battle by CS Lewis, in particular the bit about Narnia being like an onion which is larger and more perfect the more you peel its layers. I found the ending bittersweet, but it's an interesting perspective about the relationship between Heaven and earth as physical, geographical places.

"Understand"- You remember that movie Lucy? The film with the "Ten Percent of Your Brain"-conceit? This is basically that, but assume the Lucy-analog has Bene Gesserit-levels of personal, physiological awareness. The ending brings to mind Jeff VanderMeer's Annihilation, at least in the sense that it's very much what The Psychologist was trying to pull on The Linguist, had Area X not warped her physiology. This one felt a bit longer than it needed to be, though it pleasantly reminds me of a Philip K Dick story.

"Divide by Zero"- A mathematician discovers a proof that proves any two random integers are equal, and is driven to suicide at the greater implications this has to the rationality of Mathematics as a whole. Her husband is trying to be supportive and understanding, but their marriage's failure is inevitable. I'll admit, of the three, this was easily my favorite. I've heard stories of mathematicians and physicists becoming psychologically unstable as they delve deeper into understanding their fields, and the implications of them and this story feels quite plausible as a result. The fact that the husband feels an obligation to see his wife through to her recovery, but admits to no longer loving her and intends to leave is also something I've personally seen (though luckily never first-hand): sometimes the weight of seeing a loved-one suffer is too great, and you simply can't bear to be around it anymore.

Seeing as I admittedly do already know what "The Story of Your Life" is about, I find it humorous which threads from these stories tie into it. The inevitability of divorce after revelation, the unsuitability of existing language to properly describe the universe.

I'm going to be deeply upset, but in my defense, mostly because Arrival upsets me deeply.

CARSTOBER 2023 - Day 29

Favourite Cars Pairing/Ship: Jeff Gorvette x Lewis Hamilton 😏🤭

I would like to make clear that I ship these two only as the characters from Cars and not as their real life counterparts, so don't worry, I don't fantasize about Jeff Gordon and Lewis Hamilton being a couple 😅🤣

I imagined them getting together for a drink during the WGP Tokyo party just before meeting with Lightning. Jeff is the "adventurous" one, while Lewis is kinda oblivious and thinks he's flirting as a joke XD

Also, I hope the dialogues are readable enough bc I had to write them with my finger since my pen went out of power 😅
